Rebecca and Wanda are both important and both have a place in Billy's life. It does not need to be either/or. And yet, I've seen multiple instances of people using Rebecca (and even Agatha) as a means to belittle Wanda with the most bad faith readings and it's just not cool.

I can't imagine the fandom pulling this kind of thing with Cassie Lang, Scott Lang, and Jim Paxton. No one (outside of maybe [REDACTED] stan salt fic) would ever use the part Jim played in raising Cassie as a way to imply that Cassie doesn't need Scott and shouldn't care about whether he's in her life, nor would it be used as proof that Scott doesn't actually care about her and that he "abandoned" her because he cares more about "the greater good." No, instead the fandom consistently praises Scott and Cassie's bond as well as the Paxton-Langs as an ideal and healthy blended family. All the time they've lost is seen for the tragedy that it is, not as ammo.

I get that a lot of this discussion is likely rooted in some folks thinking that Wanda shouldn't/doesn't need to come back to the MCU, but man, there's gotta be a better way of expressing that.

Queerness Rates In Homo Superior

How to rationalize author decisions into the Marvel canon

Thanks to the groundwork laid by Chris Claremont, we have a host of queer characters amongst the mutant population. With the clear parallels between the mutant and queer experience it makes sense that authors continue to give us more and more mutant queer characters. Without getting into fan ships, we have many canon queer characters and characters that have had canon queer experiences to choose from. But if you divorce this from our meta knowledge, it seems weird.

Why would there be so many queer people collected amongst mutants?

In the original 5 X-Men alone, you have 3 who are either gay or poly. In the non-mutant team, Young Avengers, we start with 3 mutants, two of which are a gay couple. Later, one is revealed as not a mutant, but don't worry, the remaining straight one ends up queer as well. In their world, this would seem a strange coincidence, right?

And coincidence is sloppy writing. So why, in the world logic, is this happening?

I put forth, that the best answer is that this is natural for this new species.

Mutants are not just homo sapiens + powers. They are a new step in humanity and thus there is no reason why queerness would occur at the same rate as in homo sapiens. In fact, it may be evolutionarily beneficial to have more queer pairings in modern times.

Infant and child mortality rates are such that it's the norm for a person to survive to adulthood. This was NOT the case when homo sapiens evolved. At that time, it was important that humans make lots of babies, so one or two survived to adulthood to make more babies. And children aided in the labor, furthering the success rate of the family unit and thus the family genes.

Now children (and thus the family line) are most successful when they are born with intention and planning, not due to the random sex drives of their parents. And in that situation, (and with modern medicine) rates of queerness do not hamper the success of the species. Especially as overpopulation is a threat to the survival of any species. More babies is not always the goal. So, it's possible that homo superior has evolved specifically with higher rates of queerness.

So instead of the 2-8% we have in irl homo sapien, maybe in homo superior we would get a rate up around 25% or higher? At the rate queer characters pop up in X-Men, it may reach 50%+. Bisexuality may end up their norm once divorced from human hetero-normative culture.

With the end of Krakoa, the development of a unique mutant culture is hampered, but this theory gives a means to explain, in the world, the occurrence rates we see currently in the comics.

Okay I can figure out which characters are getting the variants....

Scott and Jean, supporting the recently out Rachel. They love their gay daughter.

Wanda and her gay kids (Billy, Tommy, Viv, and son-in-law Teddy). She deserves this actually.

Hulk, the truest ally to the LGBT.

Spider-man will probably just Peter and Miles swinging above a pride parade (acceptable).

Thor, as mentioned, probably just him having sibling time with Loki, Angela, and Sera. That works actually.

Captain America will just be Steve and Sam at a Parade. That might work.

Daredevil will probably be Matt (priest mode) being kind to the Pride.
