Must-Have: Chocolates and all things chocolate are a must when visiting. The chocolates come in several shapes and flavors including truffles, bars, and ganache.
Cost: $$
Overall: A charming chocolate shop with a bar in the rear. Perfect for an early date night, brunch, or lunch date.
This Valentine’s Day ditch the drug store chocolates and treat your favorite chocolate lover (or yourself) to something better. MarieBelle New York is a global chocolatier with beautiful retail spaces in Soho, Midtown, and Brooklyn. The company was founded by Honduran native Maribel Lieberman, a fashion designer, and caterer who turned her life long passion for chocolate into profits. The Soho location is the flagship store and an elegantly designed shop that embodies Lieberman’s designer roots. The front of the shop is a bright colorful space littered with creative display cases and gilded accents. This is vastly different from the rustic country kitchen style of their Greenpoint Brooklyn location. While the Brooklyn location has a country store feel with burlap bags and glass counters the Soho shop is a more sophisticated look that resembles a luxurious dressing room or parlor. The walls are a bright Tiffany blue with ornate gold moldings, wooden accents, and bits of sparkle littered throughout. The rear bar is designed like a Parisian cafe with Chiavari chairs, round marble tables, and a glass display case of treats. Though chocolate is one of the best sellers, it isn’t the only thing served at the bar. The menu is comprised of several small plates, salads pastries, and beverages. One of their most popular offerings is a deluxe high tea for two which includes chocolate fondue, an assortment of homemade cookies, finger sandwiches, and beverages. For our date night, we decided on a ala carte meal including savory crepe, sandwich, and dessert.
Ganache
Our meal started with an assortment of ganache chocolates. The ganache is divided into collections, we chose chocolates from the Valentine Stories assortment. Each flavor of the ganache features an image and each image is part of a small story. The flavors ranged from familiar favorites like toffee and milk chocolate to newer options such as cilantro and wildberry. Our favorite of the variety is Champagne.
Croque Madam
This is a popular brunch item. It is a French sandwich of ham, gruyere and a bechamel on grilled bread topped with a sunny side up egg. The sandwich is served with a lightly dressed side salad.
Crepe with Norwegian Salmon
We love crepes and this one was very tasty filled with smoked salmon, cream cheese and a light lemon dill sauce
Bacardi Caramel Almond Cake
This dessert is a dense almond cake with Bacardi dulce caramel and a tart cherry sauce. The dessert also comes with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream. The dessert is well composed with notes of sweet and sour.
Berry Tart
We also had the seasonal berry tart which was served with a scoop of raspberry white chocolate ice cream. A truly decadent dessert of tart fruity flavor buttery crust and creamy ice cream.
White Chocolate Mochaccino and Chocolate Rose Tea
The beverage assortment includes milkshakes, smoothies, hot chocolates, gourmet coffees, and fine teas. We chose the Mochaccino, a smooth velvety mix of coffee, milk and their signature white chocolate.  We also had the Chocolate Rose tea and aromatic black tea that went well with the sweet desserts.
MarieBelle’s Cacao Bar is a unique date option for your favorite chocolate lover. The opulent decor and delicious options offer a sweet shareable experience that goes above and beyond the typical dinner and movie. This is a brilliant option for a lunch or brunch date. The bar closes early but it is still a viable candidate for an after-work bite or quick happy hour gathering. This Valentine’s Day, skip the randomly assorted chocolates and treat bae to an experience they won’t forget.
