Little late to the party as always but I'm here for the father's day prompt.
Geez… The fathers of Moral Orel….
First of all, I agree that I want to see Karl's character expanded.  I mean, he's a really bad father, but mostly I want to know why he's a father.  Why did Karl and Kim decide to have Doughy?  Was it an accident and they carried to term, took care of him for a while, then abandoned him because it would lead to less judgment than not keeping the baby would have?  Or did they have Doughy on purpose because it's the logical next step after getting married, and all the cutest couple have a baby because babies are cute, and then they realized that a child was a lifelong commitment and a responsibility they didn't want, so as soon as he was out of that cute baby phase and didn't make them look like an adorable couple with something helpless to nurture, they pushed him to the side?  Karl certainly doesn't like him in the house, so maybe he liked the idea of a baby before he realized a baby demands a lot of attention from its mother and he got jealous and angry and kicked him out as soon as he could?  Idk, but it's a question I would love to see answered.
Another father in the show that I think is super underrated is Sal Figurelli.  He has two kids, his wife ran out on him once, and he's part of the only black family in Moralton.  And yeah, the Figurelli's are the focus of God's Image, but it's not actually about them.  It's a criticism of using religion as an excuse to be racist, which is a good message, but I think it raises more questions than it does answers.  We know Mr. Figurelli is a hard worker and business owner who doesn't let things get to him despite the odds the town throws at him, but we don't know what his relationship is with his children beyond 'they work with him sometimes' and 'Billy trusts him enough to run to him when Susie hits him', but their mom wasn't home when that happened so who knows who he chooses when the opportunity arises.
I also wish we had seen more of Tommy's family in general, especially his dad since his mom was shown much more in "God's Blunders."  They seem to really care about their son, they're just so mired in the dogma of Moralton to actually put that love into action.  And Tommy being so smart and curious makes me wonder if his dad used to bring him home books because he asked for them.  I can really see Tommy's parents getting him the science books he asks for to make him happy, even if they think his IQ is too low to actually understand what he's reading (even though that couldn't be further from the truth).  Idk, I know the Littlers aren't the best parents to Tommy, but given the other parents of Moralton, they actually seem like some of the good ones.  I mean, they could stand to listen to their son more often, because if they did they'd realize just how brilliant he is, but at least they're willing to spend time with him and they do things to protect him when they think he might be a danger to himself.  I demand to know more about Mr. Littler.
Then, there's my obvious curiosity about Art Posabule.  If he's the Bloberta to Christina, I wonder what his brand of neglect entails.  I like to imagine that Art is largely apathetic to his family and would rather lock himself in his study and drink.  The only reason I even think Art spanks Christina the way Clay spanks Orel is because Poppet tells him to and he doesn't care enough to argue about it (my big headcanon about the Posabule household is that Poppet feels that she needs absolute control of her family, from choosing what they wear, to dictating where they go, to even wanting a lock on every door so she can control who can come in/leave rooms, and Art is a huge enabler who never says no to her because he doesn't feel the need to).
Also, Bloberta's dad.  I would say that he seemed like a good parent that was only held back by what an abusive relationship (to what extend, I don't know, but definitely emotionally), but I do think he might actually be playing favorites also.  Maybe it's out of spite; a sort of "my abuser like these children, so I'm going to choose the one she doesn't like as much" but even so, I feel like the roles would be swapped if he were the one in control instead of his wife.  He was a good dad to Bloberta, which is great!  But I feel like if he had his way, then Lunchbox and Modella would have been the miserable ones.  Maybe I'm wrong, and he would have loved them all equally, but it's hard to see, since we only see him after he's already been broken into a nervous wreck who can't even accept love from his own daughter because he's so anxious and traumatized. Kinda wonder if his choose to marry his wife was just as pressured onto him and manipulative as Bloberta was to Clay. It would be interesting because then his beloved, favorite daughter would have turned into the same monster that hurt him so much, and seeing her neglect her kids the way her mother neglected her might actually break his heart, given how much he cared for her. I'll bet he feels really sad and guilty because he couldn't get his wife to treat her better, and then Bloberta wasn't able to break the cycle. I know Bloberta is a grown woman who made those choices on her own, and there's no one to blame for her neglect towards Orel, Shapey, and Block besides herself, but I get the feeling the abuse he went through would make him think it was his fault. I just feel for the guy so much, tbh. His wife is a horrible abuser to him and Bloberta, and given the way she snapped at Modella when she thought she sang off-key, possibly all her children, and he seems to blame himself for not stepping up even though nobody, not even the viewers, knows what she might do if he does step up.
Anyway, this is far too long and SO wordy but I'm very curious about the side families in Moral Orel.  They all seem to have their own problems, so it's interesting to see fathers like Mr. Figurelli and Tommy's dad, who aren't always fantastic but do seem to genuinely love their kids.  It's a shame we didn't get to see most of them as fathers.
(Also as an extremely side note, it would have been interesting if they expanded upon Marionetta's family, since we know she has a baby sister and a dad, but we never saw her mom.  So shout out to Marionetta's dad for being the only other single father in Moralton besides Putty?)
OH MY GOD
YES
FINALLY
god this needs to be explorered more in this fandom!!

Best Underrated Anime Group E Round 2: #E1 vs #E2
#E1: Dead people are revived with souls from the future. Hilarity and angst ensue.
#E2: Psychic girl is adopted by Yakuza. Hijinks ensue.
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#E1: Are You Ok (You Yao)
Summary:
People from the modern world transmigrating (Chinese version of isekai) into the ancient Chinese fantasy world has become a common and everyday occurrence that the royal court in the latter has decided to moderate them. If you’re a transmigrator, you must report your existence to Lou Zhu, the master of Best Tower. Once you pass his test and prove that you are indeed a modern person, you can then be assigned to work in different areas of the government and be given a high salary.
Because of this promised benefit, many impostors have showed up before Lou Zhu. And one day, Zuo Yunqi shows up for this test. Is he an impostor, or is he an actual modern person?
But some transmigrators also choose to hide their existence out of distrust in the government. Where are they? And with their advanced knowledge on science and technology, what are they planning in the dark?
Propaganda:
The setting is a genius mix of ancient and modern. Lou Zhu’s tower looks like an ancient Chinese building on the outside, but on the inside it’s like a hotel, complete with different entertainment venues and even a milk tea shop! And of course, what’s a hotel without an elevator? But since electricity isn’t invented yet, it’s just powered by different men (in fancy uniforms) on bicycles.
You’d expect that the locals would have some amount of horror, sadness, and grief over dead people coming back to life and moving and talking as if nothing has happened. Except there isn’t; at least, not much. They’ve gotten used to it. Life still has to go on, so why not enjoy it?
On one hand, You Yao shows us the transmigrators’ lives and how they cope in this unfamiliar world. Often in isekai/transmigration stories, the locals are portrayed as “backward” and “ignorant” to highlight the modern character’s supposed intelligence. But in You Yao, the two parties have an equal relationship. Transmigrators still have to follow the laws set by the Emperor, and their modern knowledge doesn't always prove to be useful. Unless they can invent novel things despite limited materials, their knowledge often fails to set them apart. I mean, what are you gonna do when you’re an art student whose only talent is drawing p*rn but people expect you to cook??? Or how about when you’re literate in Simplified Chinese but can’t read the locals’ Traditional Chinese text? Or what about when your soul ends up in the body of a mosquito instead???
Even with a high salary from the Emperor, being a transmigrator is not that easy. And as the show unfolds, we find that there’s more to them than comedic figures.
On the other hand, You Yao is also about the locals and how they have to adapt to their fast-changing world. My favorite among them is Lin Kai. He has fully embraced the changes that he’s become akin to a transmigrator in his knowledge of the modern world. He’s not prominent in the novel, but the donghua treated him with a full musical sequence when he was about to confess to his crush 😂. As the only straight character, they probably had to highlight his love story to let the BL go under the radar—Oh, have I mentioned this show is a BL with several pairs?
Chinese censorship won’t allow the gay to be explicit, but they managed to still make it very fruity. The s1 ending song is literally about the second pair, Li Ke and Zhou Rongqi (aka Prince Yu).
Then there’s the animation style, which is a hybrid of 2D and 3D CGI. People not used to 3D anime may wince at this, but it’s actually common in China. You Yao’s style works quite well for it, too, giving it a distinctive flair.
To sum it up, You Yao is a compelling show that deconstructs the isekai/transmigration genre. If you’re after comedy with depth and an overarching plot, this is the show for you. There’s also some gay romantic angst sprinkled throughout, giving you lots of materials for fanfiction 😎
Trigger warnings: Guns, kidnapping, and imprisonment. Nothing too dark, though.

#E2: Hinamatsuri
youtube
Summary:
While reveling in the successful clinching of a prized vase for his collection, Yoshifumi Nitta, a yakuza member, is rudely interrupted when a large, peculiar capsule suddenly materializes and falls on his head. He opens the capsule to reveal a young, blue-haired girl, who doesn't divulge anything about herself but her name—Hina—and the fact that she possesses immense powers. As if things couldn't get any worse, she loses control and unleashes an explosion if her powers remain unused. Faced with no other choice, Nitta finds himself becoming her caregiver.
Propaganda 1:
Hinamatsuri is about…
Hina, who is a psychic metaphor for autism ala Mob but imo better. She’s not only a weirdgirl who’s friends are almost all other strange girls, but she’s also into stuff that is just so either unfitting for her age or she’s just really intense about.
Nitta, who deserves all the fangirls and husbando-ing that every other random guy in anime gets. He’s a bachelor who loves pottery and can cook so well that Hina convinces her friends they have a gourmet chef working for them. He’s also a yakuza and is beloved by the aniki for being incredibly tough and scary. (He is gentle as hell with Hina.)
A bunch of other weird girls (Admin: this part of the propaganda has been cut due to possible spoilers)
Propaganda 2:
Hinamatsuri is an absolutely hilarious anime with some of the best comic timing I’ve ever seen. It’s so funny, the various girls are such nonsense.
Hina starts as a violent blank slate and develops into a lazy greedy horrible little gremlin. Anzu starts as a prideful edgy rival but eventually becomes a wholesome overly grateful insecure mess. Hitomi is forced to become more and more competent, independent, and adult because she can't stand up for herself and say no to people asking her for favors.
Nitta is a fantastic viewpoint character because he outwardly takes so much in stride that it’s easy to forget how annoyed and stressed everything makes him until he snaps.
Trigger Warnings: There is child nudity, but only for a Terminator reference. There is some comedic child neglect and slapstick. There is a child who is homeless, but it’s treated very sensitively.

Got here only in February but already in love with this game. All characters are fucking amazing and cool. But i think my heart especially belongs to Ferryman and Minos!
Tumblr media
I love this crazy fandom. There is no one particular mercenary that o like, they are all cool and deserve love. Favorite ships: Bloody Suite, Boots & Bombs, and Science Party. By the way, I hate speedingbullet, please don't touch me with speedingbullet. I draw a lot SniperSpy, everything can be found under tags here on the blog!! I also used to play a lot tf2 sice summer 2023. Now I main Scout and Sniper.
Tumblr media
MY WORLD OF WARCRAFT SIDEBLOG <-
WoW has been my obsession for several years now, and now I'm not so interested in the new expansions, but I just love the old Warcraft before SL. Alliance? Horde? WHO NEEDS THEM WHEN THERE ARE THE FORSAKEN! I love them. And basically all the undead. Of the characters, I really love Jaina and Vanessa Vancleef. And also i'm biggest Sylvanas/Nathanos apologist. My favourite fucked up couple.
Tumblr media
I LOVE MARIA SILENT HILL TWO I LIVE FOR HER I CRY OVER HER CHARACTER and I think her character is very underrated! Otherwise, I also really love Heather (I cosplayed her!), Lisa and Walter. I'm a fan of the "classics" of all 4 silent hill games. This rusty, old, tense, frightening, depressing, meaty horror is just what I've always been missing.
Tumblr media
MY LAMBDAGENERATION PROFILE <-
It’s worth saying briefly - I adore the entire universe of half-life and the portal. These are great games, I love everything about them. They changed me and my perception of video games a lot. My favorites of the series are Adrian Shepard and Alix. I'm a fan of HEKU in general, they're funny guys. Probably the only military characters in video games that don't make me uncomfortable.
other fandoms that i was to lazy to make banner for, or they are smaller: OUTLAST, Garten of BanBan, Poppy Playtime(shitty mascot horror yay), Gloomwood, Faith:The unholy trinity.
these banners are made by me, and yeah they are fre to use(ijust pls credit me if you do)

9 favorite albums in no particular order under the cut:
*** just as a sidenote, because i like too much music, i'm doing albums i like as cohesive units. albums that hold together and tell a story. albums that i listen to from start to finish because the songs go together in a particular order in my mind, for whatever reason.
strange trails by lord huron. world's most perfect story album. need i even elaborate. maybe my favorite album of all time. the musical & lyrical motifs that carry through the whole thing, the examination of romance and death and the way they intertwine, the whole convoluted multi-character storyline that underlies it. if you like folk music and undeath and evil women, please for the love of god listen to this album.
we were dead before the ship even sank by modest mouse. world's second most perfect story album. now, if you were to ask me, hey, what IS the story this album is trying to tell? i couldn't begin to answer. but this album is just. omg. the tone is so cohesive throughout while still allowing for changes in register, concept, and overall sound. also has the best opening line to an album in the history of albums.
so much for stardust by fall out boy. okay this one's a gimme but come on. pop-punk retrospective on the state of the world since 2016? with lyricism that makes me weep? came out just weeks after i the birthday where i realized that i wanted to be alive for the first time in like three years? it's not even close.
jenny from thebes by the mountain goats. NOW LISTEN. i knowww it's just the most recent mountain goats album. why, you might be asking, did i not go for beat the champ instead? and the answer is i can only choose 9 albums and i think jenny from thebes is underrated. life-changing lyricism with orchestral instrumentation that could tear me in half. also i've talked so much about it on this blog i think it would be wrong of me not to mention it.
in sickness and in flames by the front bottoms. talk about cohesion!!!!! a whole album that is essentially a love letter to all the messiest parts of a relationship! all the characters are so interesting and flawed!! and every single one of the songs are unapologetically horny to boot. also just the transitions between songs are soooooooo good. not to be the 'jerk/the truth' guy but um. the switch from jerk into the truth is one of my all-time faves.
doom days by bastille. i'm an apocalypse junkie. next.
science from an easy chair by have gun, will travel. this is entirely the wrong blog but HEY. if anyone out there likes the terror, this album is for you. it's a story concept album about ernest shackleton's expedition to antarctica aboard the endurance. the first song i heard from it was the rescue party, which is one of the most atmospheric story-focused folk songs i've ever heard. just unbelievably emotional and smart. love it.
lungs by florence + the machine. you've seen my recent posts. howl & kiss with a fist & i'm not calling you a liar & rabbit heart & my boy builds coffins &. well. you get it.
mixtape for the milky way by mixtape for the milky way. hi fellow minnesotans. go listen to jeremy messersmith's side project album about being raised in a fundamentalist christian cult. go on. noooo it won't hurt you. don't worry it's not heartbreaking at all. it's not my favorite album of his since the silver city or anything haha that would be crazy. 👀
ok that got way too long whoops BUT thank you to the folks who tagged me!! i love chatting music so if u see this & want to make your own PLEASE tag me !!!

4. Favourite historical era?
I seem to be drawn to French and Mediterranean history, and 18th century in particular. French Revolution of course, but anything 18th century it seems. They were so messy it's irresistible. The pettiness, the decadence, the "wtf dude" anecdotes... I think it's because 18th century is a curious era where the world starts to resemble the one we live in, but it's also completely different. The origins of "our world" so to speak (for better or worse).
Also, I love history of science in general. Not that it's an era, but still. Honourable mention: Ancient Greece high Middle Ages (idk if it's still a correct way to call it that), 16th century France 7. Historical dressing, uniform or costume? Hmm not sure what they mean by this. Favourite clothing style/item?
I must admit I am feral for 1790s style men's coats. Those were a perfection. The high collar, the shape... Everything.
I also love late 18th century corsets and soo wish to get one but the best replicas are like 500 dollars. :( Also, not strictly favourite but I love Directoire uniforms unironically. If anyone makes a frev themed Halloween party you just know I am dressing up like this:
Tumblr media
9. Favourite historical film?
This is easy! Not the best by any measure, but "La Reine Margot" (1994) was my everything when I was 13 and no other historical film ever made me bi impressed like this one.
24. Most underrated historical figure? 25. Most overrated historical figure in your opinion?
I legit need to think about this. It's difficult for me to gauge who is underrated and who is overrated. Edison was super overrated but this is luckily changing (go Nikola Tesla!) Maybe they can be the answers to this question.
26. Forgotten hero we should know about and admire?
The first one that comes to mind is Michel Lepeletier. I suppose there are many others but he is the first one I thought about. Probably because I am the first guilty of almost forgetting about him. But I am sure there are others I can think of.
29. Great historical mystery you are interested in?
Ooh here, too, I need to figure out what is known as a historical mystery. There are so many but I am blanking at the moment. Anyway, not a colossal mystery but I really (really really) want to know if there was truly a Foreign Conspiracy in frev started out by baron Batz (and other royalists?) and wtf that whole mess was about. (Including, of course, was there a mole in the CSP and if yes, who was it?)
Thank you for asking! :)

granit and uhhhhhhhhh šime 😭
i was legit just thinking about šime earlier today 😭
@colorsofmyseason also asked me granit so i will answer š's here and then tag u in that one!
favorite thing about them: man, of everyone who's made an appearance on my favs list, he is absolutely the most mysterious, both because he is mysterious but also because he would rarely do an interview in a language i can understand (tyoma is monolingual but somehow very understandable anyway 😂). šime speaks spanish and english but would only really do interviews in croatian or italian i feel like. so i feel like i know so little about him! but of course: he has the absolute most beautiful footballer tattoos (that BUTTERFLY!!!), fantastic taste in music, and his sense of style--a little more alternative/edgy than other footballers. he's clearly a guy who did his own thing without seeking a lot of external validation, and it was fascinating how he comes across as very mysterious but very steady at once. he's also very uniquely beautiful--there is that "you can tell a lot about a person based on whether they think šime or dejan is hotter" concept 😂 and the whole tungelr knows where i stand on this, but, damn if šime's slutty pirate/širen self isn't captivating to stare at. i miss him SO much and think constantly about how he essentially gave his whole career to the 2018 world cup without realizing.
something else is how humble and normal he always came across. of course you can only know about these people what they put on social media, but back when he was active on there, he was never vacationing to dubai or ibiza or on some yacht--he'd go home to Zadar and repair old cars with a grungy tshirt tied around his head.
least favorite thing about them: that he knocked up some Instagram Hot Lady and got together with her! and disappeared off social media and is made of literal glass! promise i'm not showing favoritism--i don't think šejan had a dramatic and bad breakup, but i think science kind of proves that the breakup was driven by šime bc dej is persistent as fuck and clearly a very devoted long distance boyfriend 😂
favorite line: omg i can't remember the exact translation of it, but it was during the wc when he was like "you film me doing everything, you'd probably film me taking a piss" and dej was like "THAT'S RIGHT!!!" i mean, the šejan lajvs had a ton of classics that i could go back and find, but i'm contractually obligated to say that one
brOTP: ŠLUKA! i loved their drunk asses together at the Slutty Pirate Party in zadar after the wc
Tumblr media
there's a lotta good photos but obviously this one has širtless content so... I also feel like šime and domo would make a great brotp.
notp (switching these next two around): probs will piss off some section of gen z tumblr saying this kind of thing but...his girlfriend/fiancee/wife/whoever. just...Not feelin the vibe
otp: i mean...
to see šejan, two grown ass men, in hysterical giggles in their own private world, is something else entirely. those 2 really had something going on. they kind of had "read each other's minds and finish each other's sentences" vibes, except they were usually laughing too hard to even finish a sentence. at the same time, šime's calm, even energy was obviously so healthy for dejan's uh, in the words of Mo, stormy head. it breaks my heart that it is over.
(PLUS. when deki said šime should get his name tattooed on him on šime's pornographic workout livestream...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(i think all my other photos are on insta somewhere)
random headcanon: i don't think i have one? in mare liberum, i want to figure out the headcanon about how he uh...got Cursed to become...what he is (NO SPOILERS even though i think mare liberum only has one reader lol).
unpopular opinion: idk what would be unpopular? i think that like, his playing when he wasn't injured was super underrated.
song i associate with them: so these are songs i associate with him because i've seen him listening to them:
badr hari by grše | california love by dr dre/2pac | i'm still standing by elton john (LOL) | klinka by jala brat (the song in the background of the Pissing Video).
jgb edit of deixa a gira girar by os tincoãs because i listened to this on repeat while writing 5.VII lol. i think i wrote the entire bathroom porn scene in 1 sitting and i needed something awesome to power me through
and then also... song for the siren by this mortal coil | o meu amor marinheiro performed by carminho (this song makes me cRYYYYyyY...i think it played a big part in inspiring mare liberum)
favorite picture:
ok i know this seems like a copout because it doesn't have his face, but...there's something about it

Why do leftists and socialists contend that 'everything is political' or 'culture is downstream from politics'?
It's a good question. First, it's worth saying that the autonomy of culture is largely a modern, liberal phenomenon, consequent upon the waning of church power, the growth of the middle class, the rise of experimental science, the development of secular professions, etc. That metaphysics, politics, ethics, and aesthetics necessarily form a unity is taken for granted by the Bible, Plato, Dante, etc., and by plenty of modern reactionaries like Eliot or Heidegger. In that sense, leftism's rebellion against the liberal autonomy of culture could be seen in the light of a RETVRN, as certain leftists of a more religious disposition, such as Terry Eagleton, sometimes like to argue.
The specifically leftist argument for "everything is political," however, comes down to the materialism adopted by Marx, which is quite foreign to Plato or Eliot. According to this line of thought, the causal chain of social phenomena runs from the material organization of social reproduction (i.e., the economic set-up) to more abstract matters like religion, philosophy, art, and even political ideologies themselves. In slogan form, "base determines superstructure." Everything in a society, therefore, including the whole of culture, grows out of its fundamental power arrangement: who owns what, who works for whom. As Marx wrote,
It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness.
It's not a crazy idea—certainly there's a kernel of truth there we neglect at our peril—but it underrates the autonomy of human consciousness. Moreover, it does so in a strangely self-canceling way. The theory would seem to imply that those nearest the social base would understand the society best. In fact the theory itself was developed by bourgeois intellectuals who, if their idea had been strictly correct, would have held complacently mystifying theories of their contemporaneous politico-economic arrangements' legitimacy instead. From this inner contradiction, it's a short step to Leninism—the Party standing in for the people—and all that follows, arguably including some of today's identity politics.
Ironically, the ideas of utopians prior to Marx, those whom Marx would have derided as idealists, people like Schiller or Shelley, according to whom society would be made more just by the gradual diffusion of imagination-expanding aesthetics, who believed in effect that politics was downstream from art, were probably closer to the mark overall. For this to work, however, art must be mostly free of political tampering, even or especially in the name of morality and social justice, since modern-postmodern-hypermodern civilization is too complex for us to know in advance everything we will need, whether as utopian model or release valve or emotional support or object of contemplation.

WINNERS:
After a long and harduous battle against 1S, Fresh finally beat up that child came out on top
As much as we all love Inverted Fate, Cross is pretty cool, for a sans
After a week of arguing with his past, Geno self, Error won his poll
For winning a staring contest with local axe-maniac, Horror, Og/Classic/Vanilla/call him whatever moves to another Round (yipee!!)
... but I doubt he'll stand against the destroyer of worlds
Sadly for all the Nightmare Fans (Including me), the octopus lost to local squid guy, Ink
The Council has decided: the best of the two "classic" Aus is Underswap! With Swap winning over Fell by a close margin
The Council strikes again: Anxiety is the better of hheisa's Aus over Mint
I'm not even going to lie to you: I didn't have the heart to vote in this poll, so most of the time I was clueless. Looks like Blueberror won over Science sans tho! Shame, Sci was the first one who got propaganda (and he kinda grew on me in the christmas party au)
After making it in to the surprise of everyone, Slump the Skebump won against a child sans
To the surprise of no one, however, Reaper won against Lust. Why can't he have nice things?
[Insert clever Underverse joke] Killer Vs Dream. Positivity wins, as always
God takes the good souls early, just like how he took Epic from us over Dust. Guess that guy still has some unfinished business huh?
In a not-so-epic epic battle of the underrateds, Farm won, which kinda left Tone a little sad [*look at what you've done.]
You know what? I'm sorta glad Paperjam lost to Storyshift, that guys way easier to draw
In a battle that I honestly sorta forgot about, people decided that Stars were better than Humans and you know what good for them
In the Battle of the Winged, the guy who absorbed like- 8 kids won over the Overzealous Cocky Positive Asshole

(Re) Introduction
Hiya!
I'm Paisley, and I've been here since 2020.
To theme - some random stuff:
I'm not great at finishing stuff, but I try.
I enjoy reading about kidnapping and captivity stuff, and all the sassy people (whumpee, whumper, caregiver, you name it, love the sass)
I prefer reading about male whumpees but have found i gravitate toward female whumpees in my own writing.
Other stuff i enjoy includes drawing, playing music, and sewing.
I am glad to be part of this community and am excited to see what pops up next :D
p.s. i will accept pictures of anyone's cats. i love cats. they are all my babies.

Underrated Whump
@darkthingshappen Brother's Keeper and @whumpcereal Behavior Modification both hit me at the same time and my goodness are they glorious. Those poor boys. I'm thoroughly invested.
@short-form-whump All their scenarios are so vivid; they say a lot in a few words. I would love to write stuff based on these scenarios, but my braincells do what they want :|

@the-whumpers-soiree What a cool event.
Never have a completed a piece in such record time. One day. I think it went well. And it's still May, so it counts towards my monthly goal. Woo!
CW: Noncon drugging, Alcohol Consumption
Emmett dislikes parties.  He knows he dislikes them, and yet he continues to go.  He says it’s to “broaden his horizons” or some other cheap cliche, but that’s not it.  He’s looking for the best friend he’s never met.  Two months of messaging and it feels like this stranger is Emmett’s perfect, nameless, other half.  The One.  They never make demands or push Emmett to go outside his comfort zone.  But Emmett wants to be better for them, to grow.  So he seeks out social gatherings, hoping to find The One and clinging to the idea that he will just know when he meets them.
Then there is something new.  A short message “It’s been long enough.  We should meet.” and an invitation to a … soiree.  It sounds fancier than anything Emmett’s ever been to, but this is what he’s been waiting for.  He quickly sends an affirmative reply.  He receives a second message with instructions on when to show up and what to wear.  He agrees to everything.
The night of the party, Emmett arrives twenty minutes early.  He hasn’t worn his dress pants in over a year, and they fit snugly around his waist.  He fidgets and pulls at the legs, trying to keep them from looking like flood pants. Ten minutes later, he gives up on his pants and enters the penthouse.  He receives a blue glow stick which he circles through the belt loop on his right hip, just as The One had asked.
He knows he’s early, so he goes to the bar to kill time.  The guests already there appear otherworldly under the gold lights.  The same lights make all the drinks look like potions or strange science experiments.  Emmett tries not to think too hard about it, chooses one at random, and moves away to the other side of the building where chairs are lined up along floor to ceiling windows.  Here it is bathed in softer blue light.  Emmett is instantly calmer and selects a seat in the corner to wait for his other half.  He watches the assortment of people who pass by, all impeccably dressed, most with blue bands like his, some with red bands.  He guesses those with red are somehow responsible for the party, hosts or VIP guests or … something.
In the middle of that thought, a man with a red band approaches him.  Emmett stands to greet him, clutching his drink like a lifeline.
“You know the bracelet is supposed to go on your wrist, right?”  The stranger chuckles.
Emmett glances down at the blue ring on his hip then back at the man.  “I… uh… meeting someone… told me… I mean… yes.  Yes, I know.”  He blushes, embarrassed by his sudden inability to form coherent thoughts.  He stares wide eyed at the man and wishes he had bought a suit that actually fit him.
The stranger laughs again.  “It’s alright, you can wear it wherever you want as long as we can see it.  Anyways, I’ve found you now, so it doesn’t matter anymore.”
“Oh, it’s you!”
“Yes, it’s me, live and in person.”  He smiles with all his teeth, arms spread wide like a tv announcer.
Emmett is far out of his league.  This man is everything Emmett could never be - tall, fit, tailored suit worn with the air of deliberate dishevelment.  And the red band.
“Do you work here?” Emmett blurts.
“No, why?”  The man raises a brow, smile never leaving his face.
“Oh, um,” Emmett starts picking at his pant leg.  “I just thought with the red bands,  it was important to the party.  Like security.  I saw some people with red bands helping guests out.”
“They’re important, but not for security.”  The man continues to grin as if this conversation were the greatest thing to ever happen to him.  Emmett knows it can’t be.  He frowns, suddenly aware of how much of a stranger this man really is.
“You okay?” the man asks.  “Do you need to go outside?”
Emmett shakes his head and sits back down.  “I’m fine.  Could we sit for a little while?”
“Of course.  Let me get you something else to drink.  That one there is like drinking death.”  He takes Emmett’s glass and heads to the bar.  Emmett watches as he leans over the counter, the yellow light casting a halo around him.  Emmett’s stomach rolls, and he can’t be sure if it’s excitement or nervousness.
The man returns with a short glass of blue liquid.  Emmett thinks it doesn’t look much better than the last one, but slowly sips it to be polite.  The two are quiet for a few minutes, Emmett drinking, and the man watching with that stupid, relentless grin.  Somehow, he seems more of a stranger now than when they had never met.
“So, what do you want to do this evening?”  The man leans back in his chair.  “After all, the night is young, and we are limitless.”
“Can we just talk?”  Emmett chews on a piece of ice, surprised at how fast the drink disappeared.  “I…I feel like I don’t know you that well.”
“Yes, of course. What do you want to know?”
“I…um, I,”  Emmett places his empty glass on the ground by his feet and grips the side of his chair.  His vision begins an uneven roll matching the feeling in his stomach.  “I… I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright.  We have all the time in the world.”  The stranger’s face distorts, his eyes dark, and his smile growing feral.
Emmett’s world spins.  “What… what’s happening?”
He is on the ground, vaguely aware of melted ice seeping into his pants.  It’s the flood pants.  He giggles at the passing thought.  The ice is surprisingly warm.

My #1 post of 2022
Hiya!
Surprise! I'm not dead but the quarter life crisis is real.
I figured I would re-introduce myself since I have been away for so long, I've learned some stuff about myself, and I think I did it wrong last time. So:
I'm Paisley, she/her, ace, socially awkward chipmunk. This blog is kind of all over the place, quite random as the name implies, but I like the whump, specifically: guys in distress (*sigh* don't we all), blindfolds and gags, kidnapping, and the Box Boy Universe in general. I don't mind reading about le spice/NSFW, but it will probably not be featured in my writing.
As far as my writing goes, my main OCs are Alex and Wes (but mostly Alex because she's been living in my head for years inserting herself into other people's stories and finally gets her own.) They exist within the BBU, but each follows a vastly different path to where they meet.
My other writing is generally short pieces based on prompts or ideas that don't fit into the main story (all the random stuff).
My list of inspiration/favorite blogs has expanded since the last time I tried this intro thing: @orchidscript @ashintheairlikesnow @deluxewhump @knivestothroats @pretty-face-breaker @whump-tr0pes @thoughtsonhurtandcomfort @fyeahvulnerablemen
My Goals for 2022:
I. Write and share one longer writing piece per month.
II. Be more interactive with all the lovely people of the whumblr/wriblr community.
Happy new year everyone! Thanks for sticking with me. 😊

Tea-riffic Love Stories: Famous Romances that Started Over a Cup of Tea
Introduction
The humble cup of tea, an emblem of comfort and hospitality, has been an underrated player in the realm of love stories. There are numerous tales of charm, romance, and love that have sprung from encounters over a cup of tea. Let's steep ourselves in the narrative of some famous love stories that brewed over this magical concoction.
The Royal Tea Connection
The romance between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson is a tea tale that shook the British monarchy. Their relationship blossomed over many tea parties, where their conversations ranged from political affairs to personal confessions. King Edward's love for Wallis was so strong that he abdicated his throne in 1936 to marry her. Their bond, much like the tea they sipped, was strong, invigorating, and undeniably impactful.
Tumblr media
The Literary Brew
Our next story takes us to the literary world, where the famous Russian author, Leo Tolstoy, met his wife, Sophia Behrs, over a cup of tea. Leo, entranced by Sophia's intellect and beauty, shared his manuscript of "War and Peace" with her during their tea meetings. Their shared love for literature and frequent tea conversations eventually led to their marriage, and Sophia became a significant influence in Tolstoy's literary pursuits.
Tumblr media
Tea on the Silver Screen
The romance between Hollywood actors Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall started, quite fittingly, over a cup of tea. Their first meeting on the set of "To Have and Have Not" saw Bogart offering Bacall a cup of tea. This moment marked the beginning of their lifelong romance, proving that tea indeed has the power to bring hearts together.
Tumblr media
The Power Couple’s Tea Time
Who can forget the love story of former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama? Their first date was not over a fancy dinner but a simple, heartwarming cup of tea. This meeting allowed them to bond and share their dreams, resulting in a relationship that stands strong and inspires many around the world.
Tumblr media
The Billionaire’s Brew
Melinda and Bill Gates, the philanthropic power couple, first connected over mugs of tea during a Microsoft press event in New York. Their shared interest in computer science, philanthropy, and yes, tea, formed the foundation of their relationship. Even though the couple has decided to part ways, their joint ventures, particularly the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, continues to impact lives globally.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
From royalty to writers, and Hollywood stars to political stalwarts, the power of a cup of tea in sparking romance is evident. Whether it's black, green, or oolong, the experience of sharing tea provides a unique opportunity for conversations to flow and relationships to brew.
Perhaps, next time you share a cup of tea with someone, pay attention to the connection it creates, the stories it tells, and the emotions it stirs. After all, you never know when a casual tea rendezvous might turn into your very own tea-riffic love story!

Glass Onion (dir. Rian Johnson)
-Jere Pilapil- 8/10 Folks, it’s good. I’m happy to see and happy to say that Rian Johnson seems to have found a repeatable formula where he can indulge a bit in his interest in meta commentary and rule breaking without enraging nerds who’ve formed a parasocial relationship with the Skywalker family. The Knives Out franchise, in so far as its two entries show, as ensemble mysteries anchored by Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc. Each movie is a murder mystery where a gaggle of famous actors are the suspects, and each blows up the formula for a murder mystery story a little bit. Each one also revels in the dysfunction of the upper class. This time around, Edward Norton is, in a sense, the patriarch of a group of friends who call themselves The Disruptors (the movie rolls its eyes at this as much as you do). Norton’s Miles Bron is a tech billionaire who invites the rest of the cast to a remote Greek Island for a murder mystery party. Every guest is a success story - in politics, fashion, science, uh, men’s rights - but Bron is the biggest success of all, as shown by the excesses in architecture and décor throughout his island. As one might expect, a real murder happens. Sometimes it’s just good to see a cast having fun, and in this case that’s enough for me. Midway through the movie, we gain some new information in a somewhat cumbersome and tiring way, but the performances carry the audience through this. Daniel Craig spent my entire adult life as James Bond, excellently, but it’s still a joy to see him playing silly as Blanc in both of these movies (and shout out to the underrated Logan Lucky). Ditto Kate Hudson, whose turn in Music was as agonizing as that movie itself. Norton has fun as the smarmy Bron, and Janelle Monaé runs away with much of the movie via a fantastic performance as the Disruptor on the outs with the rest. There is a lot of poking fun at Miles the billionaire here, to say nothing of how vapid or fake these other prominent figure stand-ins are. That shouldn’t be surprising considering the class consciousness (or attempt at it) of Johnson’s The Last Jedi and Knives Out. It’s strangely gotten more attention this time, but I think this movie was conceived with a general “fuck billionaire worship” perspective and lucked into some of our most famous billionaires exposing their own idiocy for the last quarter of 2022. There was no way to know that people would have incidents like Ye’s antisemitism and financial and cultural implosion or Elon Musk’s [gestures vaguely at Twitter and Tesla stock] fresh in their minds when this movie dropped in time for Christmas. That’s just some good timing that not even Miles Bron can buy.

YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS IT IS!!!!
First things first, our rovers are basically our children. They have names, they get birthday parties, Perseverance got a goddamn family portrait of the other rovers painted onto its chassis.
Let’s start with arguably the most underrated rover, Sojourner.
Sojourner landed on Mars in the year 1997 on July 4th and last for 95 earth days before finally shutting down. She weighed 11kg and drove a total distance of 100 meters. She (all of our rovers are she’s btw) was part of the Pathfinder mission and was designed to test a bunch of different technologies and see what worked in a Mars environment. She basically acted as the blueprint for all of our other rovers.
Next up we have our twin rovers, Spirit and everybody’s favorite Opportunity.
Spirit and Opportunity landed in January 2004 and were planned as a 90 day mission to explore and search for geological clues as to the earliest conditions of Mars and to assess whether or not Mars could have held life at some point.
Spirit lasted for not only 6 years before shutting down in 2010, but did so with a broken foot. In March 2006, her front wheel stopped working entirely, and she completed the rest of her mission dragging the wheel along. She is arguably a great rep for disability as she actually managed to turn her damaged foot into a useful tool, and helped her clear away soil from the surface of Mars which allowed scientists to discover that Mars is actually white underneath its red surface! Unfortunately Spirit got stuck in sand which left her stationary for the rest of her mission. She continued running science experiments in one spot until finally shutting down in March of 2010.
And then there’s her sister Opportunity. Opportunity, or Oppy, is basically NASA’s golden child, as she lasted for a record breaking 15 YEARS past her life expectancy and provided mass amounts of invaluable data about Mars. Oppy was extremely important as she was the rover to discover evidence of water on Mars. She also made tons of astronomical observations and atmospheric data that helped further our understanding of Mars. Unfortunately, in 2018, Oppy shut down permanently after a sandstorm left her unable to recharge. Her last transmission was “My battery is low, and it is getting dark.”
Spirit and Opportunity were unique in that NASA had curated very special music playlists that would be played every time they woke up from hibernation. When Oppy shut down, NASA workers sent her over 1000 wake up calls trying so hard to get her to wake up. Finally, on February 13th, 2019 Opportunity was declared dead and NASA workers played her “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Billie Holiday. Oppy touched many scientists’ hearts (many of them cried when she was declared dead) and was anthropomorphized heavily. It seems fitting that the last thing she heard was a love song.
On a much happier note, we now go onto the Curiosity rover!
Curiosity was launched in 2011 and landed on Mars on August 6th, 2012. Curiosity’s current mission is to explore the Gale crater, theorized to have previously been an ocean. Curiosity is a unique rover as she was the first rover to learn how to sing! In August of 2013, it was discovered that her instruments made different noises depending on what commands they were given, and on her birthday, she became the first to ever play music on a different planet by singing herself “Happy Birthday”. This of course has since been taught to the other rovers.
Next we go onto the biggest and baddest of the bunch, Perseverance and her little sister Ingenuity.
Perseverance, who is roughly the size of a car, landed on Mars on February 2021, and was an absolute technological marvel. Perseverance is notable for having a family portrait of the other rovers on her chassis. Percy’s mission is to find evidence of microbial life on Mars, collect samples of regolith and store them for a future astronaut to collect, and test potential oxygen production methods.
Her little sister Ingenuity was notable for being the first helicopter on Mars. Ingenuity completed 73 flights and demonstrated that flight is completely possible in low atmosphere environments. Unfortunately, in January 2024, her rotor blades were damaged while landing and became permanently grounded. NASA declared her mission ended later the same day.
One of my favorite facts about our rovers is that most of them have nicknames!
Opportunity is known as Oppy.
Curiosity is known as Curie.
Perseverance is known as Percy.
Ingenuity is known as Ginny.
These little guys barely count as AI, and yet they are shining examples of humanity. To the naked eye, they are nothing more than super specialized scientific instruments, but to scientists like myself they are alive. They are family. We anthropomorphized them to the point of giving them nicknames, and family portraits, and birthday parties. We not only taught them to explore, we taught them to think and to sing. And I wasn’t kidding when I said they get birthday parties every single year!
To me, the way we care for these little guys is pure evidence that humanity is good and kind at its core.
And I can’t say I blame NASA for feeling that way! When I got to build our Frogger rover for the Lunabotics competition this year, I legitimately started feeling emotions over this little metal robot.
Someone tell me how to flirt with someone because currently my only skill is being able to talk about space exploration for 4 hours straight which, while interesting, doesn’t exactly scream sexy
