This article is so depressing to read. Yet another gritty activist turned to corruption. I remember reading about the gulabi gang and Sam pat pal, feeling so inspired by her activism. She didn’t just beat up domestic abusers , she resolved village disputes, stopped police corruption, made sure workers were paid and got work, and fought for education. How did a women who did all this go from that to saying this:
''Women here are uneducated and they fall into traps easily,” she says angrily. “I have seen many cases -- about 75 per cent cases -- in which women sleep with men and then call it rape. In love affairs, there is consensual sex and I don't consider that as rape.''
Really? So what was this:
Candidate Sampat Pal is a far cry from the Gang leader who worked up such a racket in a rape case involving then BSP MLA Purshottam Naresh Dwivedi that he was arrested in 2011. Her fuchsia-clad gang members beat up men and government officials in public.
Was this girl you were defending in 2011 lying? Are they only lying because they are the victims of people in your party?
It’s really sad to see people you like sell out when it comes to money and fame. Remember you were just like those girls to, that’s why the gang was formed!

The Banda District of Uttar Pradesh in Northern India is marked by a deeply patriarchal culture, rife with domestic violence, child marriages and dowry demands. According to government statistics, a woman is abducted every 10 minutes and one is raped every 20 minutes in India. As a result of this evident misogyny, Sampat Pal Devi developed the “Gulabi Gang.” They work together for justice for oppressed and abused women. They wear pink and carry a bamboo stick to use as a weapon if necessary. “I don’t advocate violence, but there are times when that is the only way to fight. These are people for whom words and arguments are not enough,” Devi said.

White is the color of my love (Tình yêu màu trắng)

It has its roots in that, it is however culturally relevant for Indian women, Asian culture is collectivism, US culture is individualism, radical feminism whether from US or Europe cannot be applied piecemeal to Asia, it is up to the women within each country to have a say, to make it happen.
Indian feminists are amazing, they have managed to rise up against all odds.
Enjoying Indian thug life is the Gulabi Gang, an all female group started by Sampat Pal Devi. Armed with bamboo sticks, they unleash cans of whoop ass on abusive husbands, challenge caste systems, topple child marriages and rein in widespread corruption.
Next time you see a pair of chopsticks, remember the adult version is saving lives.

Chand is the first out LGBT Indian athlete, Chand faced criticism from her family who refused to accept her relationship with a woman. "How can we face our relatives and the society? What she is doing is immoral and unethical. She has destroyed the reputation of our village”, her father told Times of India. Her mom and sister doesn't support her as well. This is a common woe for Asian lesbians, family and community ties are highly valued, coming out means dealing with the guilt, shame and backlash of failing our families and communities. Feminism starts at home, equality starts at home. She is also the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the women’s 100-metre sprint at the 30th Summer University Games held in Naples. Kudos to Vogue India for featuring her on the cover, she is sizzling!

Magnifeste
MAGNIFESTE I
Premier tableau
BOUCHE
Regarde-moi, désire-moi, humilie-moi. Fais-moi baver mon échappée. Il faut me lier.

L’ŒIL

Happy International Women’s Day!
Highlighting amazing books about WOMEN!!
Portraits of brave women from the late 1800s through today--role models who are passionate about important issues A source of inspiration for young women with strong social convictions, "She Takes a Stand" highlights 16 extraordinary women who have fought for human rights, civil rights, workers' rights, reproductive/sexual rights, and world peace. Among these are many who have been imprisoned, threatened, or suffered financial hardships for pursuing their missions to change the world for the better. Included are historic heroes such as anti-lynching crusader Ida B. Wells and suffragist Alice Paul, along with contemporary figures such as girls-education activist Malala Yousafzai; "Gulabi Gang" founder Sampat Pal Devi, who fights violence against Indian women; and SPARK executive director Dana Edell, who works to end the sexualization of women and girls in the media. Taking a multicultural, multinational perspective, "She Takes a Stand" spotlights brave women around the world with an emphasis on childhood details, motivations, and life turning points--in many cases gleaned from the author's original interviews--and includes related sidebars, a bibliography, source notes, and a list of organizations young women can explore to get involved in changing their world.

Strong Women
Strong women in the world stand for for themselves. In a predominantly male dominated socioeconomic environment they succeeded and convinced people by their appearance. Whether it is in politics, institutions or companies. They made their stand.
In 2012 I visited the “Cholitas” in Bolivia, South America. The wrestling women in La Paz (Bolivia) show how women in a patriarchal society can be successful.

In 2015 I visited the founder and leader of the Gulabi Gang in Uttar Pradesh, India. The Gulabi Gang fights violence against women by their own means. Pink saris and two meters long beating sticks are their common characteristics. This initially local movement has grown up to half a million women strong. Sampat Pal Devi is their leader.
