hi! i really love ur kakashi analysis! what do you think his infinite tsukuyomi would have been? ive seen a few ideas tossed around, mostly involving rin and obito and minato and a lack of kakashi, but id love to hear ur thoughts on it!

Kakashi's dream is really simple. World peace and all the ppl he loves alive and happy. So it wouldn't just be about Obito, Rin and Minato, it would also be about a living respected appreciated and loved Sakumo who everyone still sees as the great hero he is, Minato would be the Hokage who finally brought peace to the Ninja world and he would be training Obito to be his successor so the Uchiha massacre would never happen either which means Sasuke and Itachi would be both happy as well which means neither Sasuke nor Itachi would ever become rouge ninja, Naruto would grow up with both of his parents and would have a happy childhood. And as much as I don't really ship Obirin but judging by how the first thing that came up to Kakashi's mind when Rin confessed her love to him was telling her that he didn't deserve her love and that Obito loved her more than the world so I think in Kakashi's Tsukuyomi dream, Rin might get over her feelings for Kakashi and would be in a relationship with Obito because Kakashi believed that Obito can make Rin happy and that he's the one who actually deserved her love not him and ofc he also knew that Obito loved her so in his mind them being together would mean that they both would be happy. And I think his dream would also have a happy Tenzo who had a better childhood and has never grown up in ROOT manipulated by Danzo as a result of Minato succeeding in achieving the peaceful world he dreamed of without the corruption of the likes of Danzo and Orochimaru. And it would also have Gai who never lost his dad either and Kakashi would be friends with him much much earlier too because his friendship with Gai is one of the things that Kakashi really appreciates so in his dream he would realize a lot earlier that Gai would be such a great friend. He would still be the sensei of team 7 because he really really loves those kids and I don't think he would ever give them up in his dream and it would make sense too because Obito would be busy being Minato's successor, Rin would be a great medic Ninja so that leaves him to his kids, the only difference is that they wouldn't be traumatized, trying to kill each other or leave the village or anything like that. Also, I think it would also have Asuma alive, raising his child with Kurenai.

She is definitely a fierce woman. It’s a major reason Sakumo falls for her, but a main factor for him falling for her was the fact that she threatened danzo, a god, with a sharpened rock.

As for her lifetime, and what happeneds, she is the first star.

It’s kinda like how you explained. When Obito was created he wanted to cheer Sakumo up so he took Yua’s spirit and lifted it into the night sky. She’s the first start to ever light up the night sky.

As for a second chance, i think she would take it because it would be an opportunity to live free of everything that went wrong in her first life. She gets a do over and she happily takes it, and is born into a prestigious family with parents that love her deeply.

And when Sakumo eventually rolls up (cuz she was born in a village dedicated to him) she ends up sitting on his waist with a sword to his neck, and Sakumo falls in love with her all over again

Most importantly, though, that’s when she finally gets to meet the god of storms because Kakashi always tried to put distance between himself and his mother because of how much Sakumo said he is like Yua (in how he smiles and acts)

Hatake Kakashi, Son of the White Fang - Hatake Sakumo and Snake Sannin Orochimaru, it isn't a title you can not never shiver at the idea of these two large faces in the city of Konoha. Sure, it's a legend of word of mouth but it's a legend told with facts. Thousands of files hold up the brutality of Sakumo's missions for criminals. Orochimaru holds reign of the seeded underworld back in the day, which is still seen as an active duty even though it was all undercover for the government and at the request of the City Leaders. Orochimaru holds no grudge to it all but a pity for their lack understanding and Kakashi's never one to shy away from learning that method of unbotheredness from his parent.

Kakashi followed Sakumo's shoes, working under him at a ripe age of 6, since Father enjoyed bringing home his work. Kakashi got an early start in lies, secrets, observation and seeing evidence for what it hides than what it shows. He started strong in his life and that passion continued to his current age of 40 something, he forgets these days but he's older by the day and holds himself rather well considering his lazy-lifestyle outside his rigorous training. A house of dogs, eight in fact, girlfriend and boyfriend, Rin and Obito - connected at the hips since they met at school and never parted since. Though Obito did try to flee once, but it was hard to shake of a Hatake and Rin was never far behind with her own yelling of Obito's idiocy.

Rin, a section chef - head of the medical injustice department in fact and Obito, a simple café owner with a seed in his own darkness that stems with the street gang, Akatsuki. Kakashi wasn't a bad man, nor a silly man - but he wasn't a man without his ears to the ground and nose to the real corruption of the world. Whilst he does enjoy his work of being a Detective, it wasn't like being an officer solved the really nitty-gritty crimes in the world. Sometimes, you have to become a monster to make even the demons fear their shadows too.

Well - that's all the fun and mindgames he is willing to share.

They both come in and look at their kids and the first thing they ask at the same time is “Did you win?” It’s all downhill from there tbh.

PLEASE Kakashi with his ice pack on his nose sitting in Sakumo’s shoulders and Anko curled around Orochimaru’s hip (after their little hissing fit which Oro of course won because her mother has had far more practice at it that Anko has) with her own ice pack held to her black eye as they both watch in horror as their parents check each other out is so fucking funny tbh.

You know I think the original Team 7 had Naruto and Sasuke time-trascending connection with each other and Kakashi unknowingly sharing his best friend eye and being always connected with him through his ability, but then Sakura had an inner version of herself to connect with.

It means nothing in the canon, really, but I think it would be an interesting point to explore in fanfics.

If you want to go further, you can explore how Naruto had Kurama and his parents somehow within him, how Sasuke held parts of Orochimaru and Itachi too, how Kakashi connected with Rin and Obito and Sakumo, even after dead, while Sakura's most relevant mind-body connection was when Ino tried to use her technique her, but instead met Inner Sakura and got expulsed from her body.

If we add Yamato and Sai, we can talk about how Yamato has Hashiramas cells and was controleld bh Zetsu, but Sai is there with Sakura as the only members of Team 7 that don't understand how those body-mind connections feel or work.

But essentially, it'd be interesting to explore how those facts change the Team 7 dynamic.

Writing Prompts: Canon Divergent AUs - Butterfly Edition!

The idea is to change one (or a couple) aspects of canon and see how the story shifts as a result. It's a great exercise for character comprehension and of course your imagination, while still having canon as a helpful crutch. Not to mention how fun it is to see things play out differently ^_^

Tool Tip: Adding OCs/Places/Powers etc is fine but try to keep things within the rules of the source material!

Pre Start of Main Story:

-Sakumo lives/Kakashi's mystery mother actually exists

-Rin/Obito/Both live/Kakashi dies

-Kushina/Minato/Both survive

Suggestion: The pressure and war trauma got to him and turned him into a high functioning sociopath. He only acted the part of a kind brother and murdered the Uchiha because he viewed them as weak and beneath him. He kept Sasuke alive because he views him as cute in a 'bug crawling for its life' kind of way and loves seeing his expressions of despair and rage.

Main Story:

-Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura/Kakashi dies during Wave Arc

-Haku/Zabuza/Both survive

-Gaara succeeds in killing Sakura during the Suna Ambush

-Anko takes Sasuke under her wing (curse mark connection)

Timeline of Naruto Universe

For my own purposes, I want to sort out a timeline for how I’d like to believe the events unfolded, starting with the founding of the villages as Year 0. There are a lot of contradictory statements about how old people are, when the village would’ve existed, etc. One clear example: I have to disregard the statement that Hashirama became Hokage 67 years prior to Naruto’s events. Since he was Hokage at the time of Madara’s defection, it was actually 74 years prior to Part II at minimum that Hashirama became Hokage, based on the ages of Hashirama’s grandchildren. 

So a lot of this is going to be 1) pure conjecture and 2) selective reasoning. It’s also not going to pay much mind to birthdays aside from their year date, as that might make this overly complicated. It’s a fruitless endeavour, really, but I thought it’d be fun to try to make sense of it all. Below the dates I have character ages where it is useful or relevant, as well as notes on how it fits into the narrative/in respect to other established dates. I’m sure there are better and more precise ones that exist, but this one’s mostly just for me anyway.

So without further ado, here’s my timeline:

Year 0: Konohagakure is founded; village system established 

Characters: Hashirama and Madara approx. age 25

Notes: Konoha is founded in the years following Izuna’s death, who is approximately 24 when he dies. Madara and Hashirama both appear to be 1-2 years older than their siblings based on their appearances as children.

HashiMadaMito+ - spanning decades, they raised Tsunade together, seen Madara rise to the head of the Uchiha, seen Mito become an accomplished author, and have seen Hashirama become a martial arts legend. The relationship is open on Madara’s end, as he’s their whore (affectionately)

Nawaki dies a few days after his birthday, so around the date of august 5th. Tsunade is 24 at his death but turns 25 shortly after. Jiraiya and Orochimaru are still 24, and Sakumo is around their age (I presonally think he IS their age, so also 24)

Chibi (I think that's Yahiko's dog??) wanders too close to the battle between the SANNIN and HANZO in AME. I didn't know this happened BEFORE Dan's death........ Dan dies the same year as Nawaki, so some of them (and Sakumo) may be 25 already, or still 24 (Jiraiya) BUT the thing is, I'm certain it's stated that the sannin are LATE 20s for the battle against Hanzo. that is mid 20s...

after the battle, Tsunade and Orochimaru go home, leaving Jiraiya with the Ame orphans, so he would also miss Dan's death.

Mito dies, passing the 9 tails onto Kushina, probably one of the final characters alive from the warring states period

Sasori's parents are killed, leaving an angry Chiyo wanting Sakumo dead at her hands. Chiyo and Sakumo would have a rough 20 year gap between them btw. in which 20 years also passes until Chiyo tries to kill Kakashi, mistaking him for the White Fang of the Leaf, until her brother stops her

and then Sakumo fucks a mission up, gets vilified, and kills himself, leaving his 4-8 year old son depending on how you look at it (which the older Kakashi is, the less of a chance Sakumo died in the 2nd war, which this states he does. I personally believe Kakashi is 4 when Sakumo dies, and that event is between the 2nd and 3rd war. Kakashi is very much alive and raised while the 2nd war is going on though, but is maybe around 3 or 4 when it ends)

which Jiraiya is probably still in Ame by the time Sakumo dies, missing both Dan and his deaths :/

A random headcanon: Yua is very confident in her gender and has zero belief in ‘gendered jobs/gendered items’. Girl spent her formative years training as a samurai, as the only girl in a whole house of boys. She has explored every option for who she is and has come to the conclusion that she is very female and capable of doing anything and everything the boys in her class could do (often better than they could do it). Woman gives Kakashi flower’s, makes him flower crowns, teaches him to care for his clothes (unless in battle. Clothes don’t matter in battle)

General Opinion over said character: she is literally my baby. I made her. I love her

How Tsunade fits into it all

Tsunade is legit a part of the family. In any scenario where yua and sakumo both live, Tsunade is somehow a part of them

If it were anyone else Kakashi would be angry. He’s get between them and his parents and glare at them until they left

But Tsunade is his aunt and sort of like a second mom. She visits at least once a week, can be found sleeping in bed with Yua and Sakumo, and has a very solid healthy relationship with her take no shit nephew. They respect and love each other.

I have a few fics in more modern au where kakashi is very aware that his mother is head over heels in love with Tsunade and bugs her about it at every opportunity (with support and help from her loving husband sakumo lol)

If I can interest you in some slightly contradictory ones though: (mid writing update: I got carried away...) (mid writing update part 2: I am incapable of not writing Kakagen and I'm not sorry)

Genma who comes from a long line of assassins and mercenaries, with a bloodline that lets him have extremely good chakra control through bodily fluids. Saliva is easiest, though. His family wear their hitai-ates inside out and backwards as a show of their former mercenary status. He’s no outsider, but everyone will treat him as such anyways since his obviously shinobi parents don’t wear visible ‘loyalty’ marks and rumors start that his dad is a missing-nin from another village.

Then Sakumo dies, and the war starts, and Genma’s parentage doesn’t matter anymore. There are bigger issues ahead. The Wiki says he graduated at 10, but he’s two years older than Ebisu and three older than Gai, so I think he would have been held back and graduated at 12 (by his dad, not because of any failure on his part) to keep him out of a warzone and train at home a little longer.

Genma makes chunin at 14, and starts learning poisons from his Sensei and Dad. He also starts training to be a field medic as the war gets closer, his bloodline making him a good emergency healer when people are covered in blood.

He learns to be afraid of the unknown. Fear kept you alive, made you cautious. He wasn’t particularly close to Obito, but dying via cave in is never a fun way to go. He gets trapped in a foxhole, once. There wasn’t anything he could use for light. Just him and a dead man in a black, black void.

He never really learns to sleep with the lights off, again.

He makes Tokujo just before he turns 16, a battlefield promotion after his captain was KIA. He joins ANBU from there, and is on Minato’s personal guard squad as ANBU when the Kyuubi happens. His mother and sister died that night, after Minato gave the order for his guards to get out of there and focus on the civilians.

(He never stops blaming himself)

He stays in ANBU, as an assassin and occasionally Naruto’s guard. He wasn’t there when Orochimaru defected, but it left it’s mark. Whispers began to follow him because of their shared interest in poisons.

When he creates a compound that turns living tissues into sludge, he burns the papers and commits it to memory, temporarily leaving his poisons work behind and is placed as a Lieutenant under Raidou, with a 16 year old Kakashi as a ‘rookie��� who needed better experience working under a team before he could lead his own. Those three stay together for a few years, other masks cycling through as their fourth and fifth members.

Genma is out on injury for three months, a broken femur and fractured hip. Kakashi takes over as acting lieutenant on team six at 18, and by the next spring reshuffles, is captaining his own team.

Genma’s poisons regimens change, during this three month R&R. More sedatives, depressants, muscle relaxants.

He realizes what they want him to do, after the training changes. From poisons to makeup, clothes, how to act on stage.

He learns how easy it is to fake a pretty face. What you can’t fake, however, is the ability to accept a drink you know has been roofied and enjoy it anyways, knowing it won’t affect you. Poisons tolerance is key to honeypots.

At 21, Genma knows some people might consider him generally attractive. He learns now, though, how much confidence plays into that. He learns to charm and tease, to roll through bed partners night after night like it’s nothing.

He learns he sleeps better with someone at his side, the strangling, overwhelming shadows of his room and his mind kept at bay with the soft breaths of another person who likely won’t remember this night in particular.

Things… settle. Genma is never put on another ANBU team for longer than a mission or two, usually running solo between his honeypots and assassinations, or a combination of the two. When he can, he takes shifts on Naruto or the Hokage's guard.

He learns different types of healing. From battlefield injuries to mucosal membrane tears, from sprained joints to fingerprints around his throat.

He earns a reputation, in his downtime. 'Playboy,' was the one of the nicer names. 'Whore' was more common.

The faces blur together after a while. Genma barely notices when silver-white hair and visible eye haunted and brittle joins, carving lines down his back and leaving his teeth in his neck in scars that stick. Genma can never bring himself to fade them away.

He's not there the night the Uchiha are massacred. He hears about it later, a drunk Raidou spilling the details of that bloody night in a hushed whisper in his apartment.

(he asked Genma to help him forget for a night. Genma obliged. He held him after as tears soaked into his borrowed pillow. Held him as the sun broke over the horizon. This was becoming routine, with Raidou.)

Kakashi leaves ANBU. Genma never learns why, and is miffed at himself it took so long to notice when his cold, brittle eyes took on a different look in the smoky air of a bar or the lamplit shadows of his room. Then they stopped showing up all together.

The scars on his neck heal. No new ones join them for a while, not from overgrown canines and a bite force that would make a panther jealous.

It's quiet. Easy, almost, to fall into this routine. Even as his body racks up scar after scar and some days it feels like time is slipping through his fingers like water through a sieve. (Since when is he almost 30? Didn't he turn 23 a few months ago?)

Another joins the honeypot roster. She's older than he was, but she looks so young at the same time. She doesn't last long.

Genma starts taking more of those missions. They're not as experienced as him, not as used to the drugging or the clientele it takes to get to your target. He can handle it. Better him than them, anyways.

Then the Sandaime dies. Genma stares at the portrait during the funeral, and wonders if he should give up being a Hokage's guard, with his track record. Raidou does, for a while. They start taking missions together, again.

He starts coating Raidou's sword for him. the black blade reflecting with the oily sheen of poison as it's owner leans against his side, the proximity comfortable. Haltingly, Raidou asks what they are.

Friends, Genma guesses. After a beat, Raidou asks if they could try to be something more.

(It doesn't work out. No matter how many times Genma tries, it never will. He's beginning to think he wasn't made for romance.)

War happens. Genma is yanked into the Infinite Tsukuyomi. He dreams that nobody has to take those missions anymore. His mother is there, and his sister. His dad is smiling, for once.

He's got a ring on his finger but he doesn't know whose until he sees Kakashi (Kakashi?), dark eyes and a smile and (This isn't right, Kakashi doesn't have his natural left eye,) deadly hands made gentle for him and it's perfect in the way a would designed just for him would be. (The illusion is breaking down, now, but oh. Genma aches, to be loved like this. But this isn't real, this isn't his Kakashi. This would never be his Kakashi.)

He comes out of it confused and disorientated, and even more so when Raidou's concern seems unusually strong for him in particular. (He realizes he was Raidou's dream, later. Part of his heart breaks further for his best friend, knowing he'll never be the man that Raidou was so in love with no matter how hard he tries)

He can't help but laugh when the war is over. From the resurrection of the mad ghost of the Uchiha to the end, it was three days. His years of war as a teenager feel like nothing in comparison to the horrors of this, for all it's shorter. This wasn't a war, this was a fever dream of a slaughter that will take decades to pick the pieces up from.

Tsunade retires. Mentally, Genma celebrates finally having a Hokage under his watch that he didn't outlive. He hadn't failed this time.

Raidou retires. He still takes some C and B ranks occasionally, but he's mostly reserves. Genma gets a promotion to the captain of the guard, as the new Hokage works to diminish the number of honeypots and other missions of that nature. Silver hair and scarred hands work the desk underneath Genma, who sits high in the rafters and watches.

Just like he will never be Raidou's dream, he knows Kakashi will never be his. For all it didn't happen though, it doesn't erase the years of memories of waking up next to him, of lazy morning kisses and a promise of someone still being there come morning, and come night after that. Someone he could call home.

He breaks down to Raidou. They both drink more than they should. He sees the heart break fresh in his friends eyes the next morning as Genma wakes up and flinches away, because no matter how much he wished to forget, it's still the wrong person across from him in their his bed.

He switches to night guard, escaping his too dark room more often than not. It was easier to rest during the daylight anyways. If only his Hokage wasn't as much of an insomniac as Genma was.

They end up talking, late into the night. First as Hokage and guard, then just as old friends. Genma tells him about the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and his nonsense 'perfect world.' Kakashi laughs of the ridiculousness of it, that it would give him Kakashi of all people. Kakashi admits to his own quiet crush under Genma's lieutenancy in ANBU, and later on when he was a captain of his own team. His own quiet wondering whether or not he wanted to have Genma or be him.

Genma stays, long after his rotation was over, falling asleep on Kakashi's couch. It is a very bad couch to sleep on, all things considered. Surprising for the Hokage to have such a bad couch until Kakashi admits it's to discourage himself from falling asleep.

There is breakfast on the table when he wakes up. It feels almost like a morning after, minus the sex. The joke makes Kakashi splutter but he's laughing too, and it's silly and lighter than Genma's felt in months.

Genma never thought he was made for love. Not in a way that can keep up with another person or vise versa. Kakashi tells him they can try. Why not, really.

"Protect and serve everyone else before yourself" becomes his life motto on the battlefield and personality

"Obey the Hokage if you want to protect your family"

"Actions speak louder than words," as he learns the hard way that anyone and everyone will make the promise to serve, protect, and defend their allies, friends, family, and loved ones. He quickly learns the contrary that though a lot of people might say it, they don't have the strength, knowledge, or prowess to make good on those words, so it's actions that make a difference and not what comes out of peoples' mouths...

"Yeah you say that, but--" is Genma's actual catchphrase to all his friends and comrades, almost everyone except Raido, Aoba and a handful of others who aren't a few years his junior. His genin missions were spent protecting kids from Kurama's attack, locating missing children from Orochimaru's various labs, and attempting to spread peace on behalf of Konoha through his Hokage-mandated travels once the stress of being a teenage soldier finally threatened to break him and Hiruzen had no choice but to send him out to expand his horizons and worldview beyond Kill Maim Destroy Protect & Serve...

IDK MAN THAT'S A LOT OF PRESSURE TO BE UNDER and i feel for the dude so bad. plus he's cute as hell and i'm sure so many people wanted to lock him down with a ring and a promise of a peaceful future but he's just Not Built For The Domestic Life......
