Sir Edward John Poynter (French-born British, 1836-1919) Faithful Unto Death, 1865 Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, UK During the excavations at Pompeii in the early 19th century, the skeleton of a soldier in full armour was discovered. Romantic historians of the period assumed that he had remained loyally at his post while all the other inhabitants of Pompeii were fleeing from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Candles were lit on the grave of fallen heroes on the eve of All Saints' Day in Lviv.
"Before All Saints' Day, people come to the cemetery to pray and honor the memory of their loved ones. At this time, we remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine and express gratitude for their courage and sacrifice." - said Mayor Sadovyi.

Note
Not an ask, just a heartwarming modern AU headcanon that came into my head after I submitted an ask earlier and later remembered the possible plans my folks made for later this year.
Every year around the holiday season (Thanksgiving/Christmas/whatever else people celebrate), Killer will volunteer at a local church or soup kitchen to help provide meals for the less fortunate. He'll help with cleaning up tables or washing dishes and doing whatever else is asked of him too.
The holiday season is tough for a lot of people and nobody should have to go through the stress of being hungry on top of that.
In a modern AU I think the entire crew does a lot of volunteering.
I could see Heat doing the big brother/big sister thing.
Wire does habitats for humanity.
Killer is doing soup kitchen work every weekend almost.
Kid does that thing where you go look scary in the courtroom so that children know that you have their back and they can testify bravely.

aesthetic: alina starkov, the soldier.
“I didn’t know who I was in this little palace. I didn’t know who I was when there was an entire court of people looking on, expecting their own version of me. Some wanted a meek, little soldier from the First Army; some wanted a Sun Summoner from legend who would free Ravka from its ancient curse and recede back into myth; some wanted a rageful, hungry Saint who would slice the golden domes of Os Alta away and raze the Fjerdan ice plains to ash.”
