short comic about some saint backstory TM and an old friend :-) this is pretty well before saint meets maverick or any of the other main characters in the story

novus (the story) at its core really is intended to be some generic sci fi action adventure stuff but there's definitely gonna to be some undercurrents of like. identity and finding yourself and all that. especially thru the lens of robots discovering who they are, given that saint is the Main Character and, well. he's still figuring a lot of things out. also i Heart robots as an allegory for being transgender.

ophelia was originally gonna kinda be a side/backstory character but honestly i rlly like her already and thought of a pretty easy way to pull her into the main cast via her friendship with saint so yay. also then i can have her be lesbians with eleven and leta. awesome. as if this cast needs to be any bigger. but i endure.

I saw on one of your quizzes it said to bug you here if we wanted to talk about saints. I'm not catholic (raised a different christian denomination->ive since escaped it thank fuck) and just by seeing some saint options to pick from on the quiz it raised questions abt the neighboring religion. Is Eve not a saint in catholic churches??? Like Adam and Eve??? Idk I always figured theyd be saints but I didnt see them listed and now I'm curious because I dont think ive ever seen them listed as saints anywhere at all really. Just stuff like mother Mary and angels like Michael and Gabriel/ ppl like Joan of arc etc.

Ps. also listing Marilyn Monroe and Ophelia as ppl you personally consider saints is absolutely girlboss of you and I mean that in the best way possible💜💜plz elaborate bc I am so ready to hear you out and I just know you have a good ass rant abt it I'm so curious lol

it does say to do that i love when people want to talk about saints... one of my favorite topics even...

anyway eve is NOT a saint. unfortunately in biblical terms her and adam kind of crucially fucked things up for everyone and sainthood really specifically has to go to a certain kind of person who is devout and significant and (only for modern canonization i think?) has to complete a certain number of miracles in order to be considered for canonization. eve and adam are definitely significant biblical figures but they are really just not eligible for sainthood by virtue of Not having been good believers in god. see also: trickstersaint poem "in which you are seven years old and trying to dislodge the chunk of apple in your throat".

imagining adam and eve as saints though... saints of falling for trickery... saints of caving to temptation... i think i have to sit down

ok so here's the thing. when i think of saints they are like. well. haters (other christian denominations) will say "false idols" but they are like stuffed animals within religion to me. supplementary figures. this is all irrelevant to the ophelia and marilyn monroe conversation in which the point is that they are figures that are mythical either by virtue of their origins or by the way that their stories have been mythologized and they have been adopted by people in a way that is more about the person who adopts them than about the figure themself. HOWEVER it is critical that they still maintain the thought of like. i Know this person. even as they are dehumanized. so. parasocial relationships on a societal level. which is why i included princess diana on that question as well because it's about the sheer level of fame and the way in which people adopt these figures as personal icons and idolize them especially in death. gerard way gets to be this to me because i am insane about them in a very specific way and i Do hold them in my heart for support and strength in the way that i hold saint sebastian or the virgin mary. see also: trickstersaint poem "ophelia".

as much as ophelia attempted to hide her emotions, it was clear that there was an issue at hand, which of course he would take full responsibility for. he sighed softly at her words, knowing that it would take a minute for her to come back around. hell, he didn't even know what would happen between the two after this. but what he did know was that his feelings for her were genuine, even though his actions certainly weren't showing so. at her sudden words and shift towards the other area, he followed her without hesitation, attempting to take hold of her hand to follow her but failing. but eventually he found her again, leaning against the wall now once they made it to their destination. truthfully, she wasn’t even mad that he had canceled their movie night, knowing that it was a silly idea anyway and one that they could postpone to a later date. what irked her was the fact that he had his tongue down some other girl's throat. sure, they weren’t a couple, and he was free to do whatever he wanted. but, it still felt like a slap in the face. “ you’re right, it does look bad. “ she doesn’t even bother to look at him as she finishes off her drink, nose scrunching from the burn she felt in the back of her throat from the mixture of sweetness and liquor. she really just wanted to walk away then, not wanting to deal with what was unfolding in front of her. but, before she could even think to walk away, he was asking the other girl to give them a minute. “ clearly, it’s you two that need a minute. “ she rolls her eyes, and takes a step back from the pair. “ seriously, it’s fine. “ she lies, clearing her throat to hide the crack in her voice from the emotion she was feeling. sure, she was used to shit like this happening to her but, she never expected it from him out of all people. “ i need a drink. “ she mutters, finally turning and pushing her way through the crowd, to where the drinks were.

working on a short 5-page comic of a little snippet from saint's past before he meets maverick or any of the others, just kinda liked these panels even if theyre simple :)

He bats back at her playfully, unaware that he's giving off any kind of vibes. Seonho can be a good liar when he puts in the concerted effort. It's just that by nature, he's far more of an honest fellow, and he's glad to be around Ophelia at all after the brief time apart, having thought that he had done something wrong.

Now he knows it's not that. It's just that Ophelia would rather spend her time with someone else, and he will work on making his peace with that. If all Percy is is a hookup, then that does sting a little bit, but he tells himself that there's no reason to feel that way. It's okay if what he had to offer hadn't satisfied her. They are friends first and foremost, and he should encourage her other pursuits. He sticks his tongue out at her, his stomach churning as Ophelia fumbles a little bit too, attempting to play it off. That confirms that she doesn't want Percy to know they had swapped spit, and other bodily fluids.

He focuses on the game as best he can, clapping his hands. "Good job, Phe!" he encourages, and waits for Percy to take his turn, sweat pooling at his temples. When the end of the game comes, no matter the result, he pulls Ophelia into a one-armed hug without thinking about it. "Great game!" It ends too soon, with him pushing against Ophelia's back after spinning her around like she's on the dance floor. "But you should go to your guy now."

Even from the opposite side of the cornhole set, Percy caught a glimpse of something in Seonho's expression. It really must have been an eventful friendship, after all. Instead of carrying on that conversation, though, he pocketed that thought for later.

"Alright, don't rush me," Ophelia shushed Seonho, playfully batting him away with a hand. Plucking her beanbag up, she eyed the board on the other end, seeing that Seonho's attempt had been pretty close. "Cooties?" The word has her spinning on her heel to laugh at Seonho. "We've shared plenty of 'cooties' at this point if you really are that scared of them," she said before turning back, realizing that Percy was in earshot. Face instantly flush pink as she stammered over rambling explanations. "We share food a lot. Though not drinks, especially not my drinks. Anyways." Attempting to move on, she tossed the beanbag, this time a much better throw than her first one. It slid across the bottom of the board, though not quite making the hole.

"Okay, not a winning throw, but at least I'm on the board. Sorta," she said, turning back to Seonho to pluck her drink from his hands.
