You, he challenges you. Your eyes widen and you can feel the hundreds of eyes suddenly on your helmetless face. Making you wish that you had their armor to hide your surprise and embarrassment. To have that shield from the world and make them interpret your silence or the tilt of your head. 

Everyone is waiting for your refusal, you can hear the whispers starting to rise through the crowd. Djarin’s visor is still fixed on your face, body completely still as he silently demands an answer to his challenge.

2. The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai: fantasy with some f/f. Two women, a waterweaver and an earthweaver, join a women's rights movement. I love the Egyptian-inspired worldbuilding.

3. Reforged by Seth Haddon: m/m fantasy. This King/Paladin novel has a surprising plot. The magic system is very original as well, I especially like the music part of it.

4. The Buried and the Bound by Rochelle Hassan: urban fantasy with some m/m (YA). The hedgewitch protecting the town teams up with a boy cursed to forget his true love and another one trapped as a bondservant.

5. [Spanish] Lazos de Sangre by LR Jeffers: m/m urban fantasy (erotica). This is a series about werewolves and big cat shifters, usually angsty and hot.

6. [French] Meute by Karine Rennberg: urban fantasy with some m/m + another protagonist is aroace and uses sign language. This is a novel about building your own werewolf pack. I think this is my first time encountering 2nd-person narration in French and it works surprisingly well.

7. Cascade by Rachel A. Rosen: science fantasy with mlm and wlw protagonists + no romance. An ecological disaster has freed magic. In Canada, the Party works with a wizard in order to try and save humanity. I love the intricacies of the plot, which skilfully mixes politics, science and magic.

8. Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell: m/m science fiction. Telepathy, my favourite trope, done by one of my fave authors! It was even better than I expected.

9. The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei: science fiction/murder mystery with several non-binary major characters. 80 people from all around the world embark on a one-way interstellar voyage. As they're all required to get pregnant, they're obviously afab, but several are non-binary, with mentions of a trans man.

10. Forget Me Not by Alyson Derrick: f/f romance (YA). This is a very romantic novel about two girls dating in secret until one gets amnesia. I enjoy this trope a lot.

TV shows

1. Good Omens: fantasy with queer protagonists + some f/f. I love the book and I love the adaptation. Season 2 is original content, but it's faithful to the spirit of the novel.

2. Shadow and Bone: fantasy with some m/m (YA). This successfully mixes the Shadow and Bone trilogy (that I haven't read) and the Six of Crows duology (that I have read and enjoyed).

3. Warrior Nun: fantasy with some f/f. Nuns literally fight against demons.

4. The Power: superpower fiction with some f/f + a trans woman and an intersex man. Teenage girls start developing an electrical superpower, which makes them safer from men.

5. Nü Er Hong: GL wuxia. This c-drama is a quick watch, with 27 episodes of 2 minutes. I love that these short webdramas always have more or less the same actresses.

6. The Devil Judge: dystopia/thriller with BL vibes. This k-drama has a tight plot and fascinating characters. There's a girl in a wheelchair and the rep is well done.

7. Naughty Babe: BL romance/murder (attempt) mystery. This Thai drama is the sequel to Cutie Pie, except that they switched up the main pairing and the secondary pairing. I think it's possible to watch it on its own.

8. Wedding Plan: BL + GL romcom. This Thai drama has mlm-wlw solidarity, which I hope to see more of in the future. There are also cameos from the BL couples from Love in the Air.

9. Oh! My Assistant: BL romcom. This hilarious k-drama is about a het porn webtoon creator and his assistant. Despite this topic, the drama is not explicit.

10. Welcome to the Lesbian Bar: GL contemporary fiction. This k-drama is a quick watch, with 5 episodes of 6 minutes. In each episode, 2 customers come have a drink and chat with the owner.

Movies

1. Barbie: fantasy that is so gender! This was such a big surprise coming from Hollywood.

2. Nimona: fantasy with a protagonist who is a trans/enby allegory + some m/m (YA). I haven't read the graphic novel, so this was more depressing than I expected (it deals a lot with discrimination), but still an excellent movie.

3. Wingwomen (Voleuses in the original French): action movie with a sapphic protagonist + f/f vibes between the other two. I love heist movies all about women.

4. Kill Bok-soon: action movie with some f/f. This Korean movie has interesting cinematography. Note that it's very violent, though.

5. Red, White & Royal Blue: m/m romcom. I love the book and I love the adaptation.

6. Anything's Possible: m/f romance with a trans female protagonist (YA). This is a very positive movie, about love, art and nature.

7. Fanfic: m/m romance with a trans male protagonist (YA). This Polish movie is sometimes dark, sometimes fun.

Yuletide Ramblings

While I'm not religious by any measure, Christmas in Norway is honestly a decently secular experience once you tune out all the songs about Jesus and roses springing from barren fields and whatnot. This is to say that the holidays have always been about family and the people close to me. I may be overstepping my bounds a bit, but let's include my dear tumblr moots and general tumbl-o-sphere in the proceedings and talk a little bit about my 2023 on Tumblr.

If I'm going to be frank, and I want to unless the opportunity to be earnest should present itself, 2023 was a tough year for me. My ongoing journey to finding treatment for my depression stalled out, and my job search has similarly been quietly moved from the "top priority" box to the "it'll happen when it happens"-pile. I've been able to do this much thanks to the welfare systems in my neck of the woods, and although the process has kind of sucked along a number of axises, I do acknowledge it has helped me.

What has also helped me, though, is you guys. After starting using the platform in June of this year, I have found replete friendship and support, an almost overwhelming torrent of commisseration, enthusiasm and the particular brand of weird that seems to be the first language around here. Y'all have helped me get writing and stay writing, and really have honed my "take it easy, but take it" approach to a razor's edge.

While many parts of the internet are slowly but surely content-ifying themselves into a desolate wasteland of human connection, Tumblr keeps going with actually trying out the "social" part of this whole social media thing. Granted, that may be because of incompetence in trying to follow the trends on Tumblr's end. Still, I want to thank all y'all for keeping it personal, for keeping it weird, and keeping it as free of the scourge of "personal branding" as one could conceivably make a site full of artists and freelancers.

Cheerleading social media sites isn't really my bag, but I will concede that I've grown quite attached to the way Tumblr does things, and the weird arbitrary ways it prods us into acting. It's all down to the people, of course, and I've found quite a batch of good eggs on this here site. I almost don't want to shoutout specific users because I'm afraid I'm going to forget someone truly marvelous and even though there's every chance they'll never notice, I will know and the snub will eat at me.

That said, I do want to shout out a couple of people who've made my first half a year of tumblr great. @toribookworm22's timely asks have certainly helped me keep track of the weekdays, as well as helped me with a bunch of worldbuilding and minutiae. @dyrewrites and @teacupsandstarlight have both been great to talk to, and I would be in dereliction of my duties if I didn't at least mention the illustrious @scifimagpie in this context as well. @jeahreading and I seem to mostly pass as ships in the night, but sometimes the distant sound of a foghorn can be just the thing, to torture the metaphor a little. @that-weird-kid-from-your-school is also a joy to talk to, and her palpable enthusiasm is great.

Now for some people whose work I follow who I don't speak to much because I am intimidated by their skills. @canisalbus and their adorable gay dog-men never cease to fill my heart with love. @secondlina and their crows similarly also make me smile. @mlm-blues and @were--ralph have both done wonders for my self-esteem, and it is nice to see and share the enthusiasm for lads on occasion. @shyroism is mostly off-site what with the streaming, but they're definitely an underrated streamer who could do with some more eyeballs on their work. @fidgetspringer is an awesome punk, an awesome artist (shoutout @fidgetspringer-art,) and has a truly magnificent beast of a bird hound. @everythingfox is an endless source of cute animals which is an obvious lifesaver, @bearotonin-international is Important, @raccoon-central similarly does some heavy lifting for my mental health with their lil' grabby hands. @bodhrancomedy is a good lad who does good videos and do the acting real good. @sootchild has good art and I like it.

I'm running out of steam, which is a shame because there are a lot of people who deserve just heaps of praise heaped upon them on here. Hell, if you're still reading at this point, rest assured I think you're at the very least awesome and deserve good things happening to you.

In closing, I would like to once again express my delight and joy for how Tumblr has been in my first half year, and I hope the however long until I get maudling again is just as good if not even better!

firstly, thank you so much for all the messages about me helping you building a better relationship with femininity. It makes me really happy. I am sending a warm hug to all of you.

moving forward I think I will one day study more about shadow work (psychology) and appreciate how detrans kink has helped me overcome a lot of things.

but I also don't plan to stay here.

to answer the big question, how do you feel about your gender after all these? I feel non-binary. sometimes I feel euphoria being mistaken as trans fem and im happy. sometimes i feel really euphoric for being a mlm trans man, and i like being the androgynous one.

I truly just experimented with my gender in early 2023, and I found out it is really fun to be a girl. but I am not one. but i'm happy i experimented with it.

by all means, experiment with your gender. play with your gender. you don't have to make it shame-bound. i stopped doing shame-play because it was impacting on my mental health deeply and negatively.

at first i couldn't stop masturbating to shameful emotions. i went to Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings, left because it has a Christianity origin (although they're so open-minded and religion/atheism friendly) and there's a lot of shame involved there too.

but SAA and the people there really helped me build a positive lifestyle when I was there. I carried the positive changes and influences into my life.

i feel like myself finally. and all that journey was worth it in the end. i felt like myself with finally living on my own, making new friends, healing my own attachment woundings, going to therapy, finding my community and experiencing so much queer joy. and i learnt to be vulnerable in a good way, so i can build authentic relationships. (with a lot of financial and emotional support from family and friends)

i don't know. this is the light at my tunnel end for me i think. i was very miserable when i was starting this blog, and now i have overcome a lot of that misery. i am still struggling with depression and anxiety. but i am having a way better time now.

guys, just between us I wanna share two things. Firstly, I really wanna stop my period but not lose my hair. So i got on birth control (progesterone). But it is pushing me towards a psychological deep-end and I do not wanna risk destabilizing myself. (Took me a long time to become mentally stable.) So I think I will get back on testosterone after taking a year of taking a break.

Yeah, one day I might be as bald as the men on my mother's side. But it's good to look my age. I am a radiant person. I am sure I will still be lovable and beautiful and alternative when I get there. Rocking a mullet on the back with a balding on top.

And secondly, I realize I really like he/they trans boys, and I want to love them as myself. A they/he/she. I wanna be in a gay relationship with them. I want maybe two boyfriends and one girlfriend (or enbyfriends!) and I want to meet the metamours, my beloveds' beloveds. I want to be in a polycule with a lot of queer joy in the household. maybe i'll meet them at 2am when getting pizza wearing baggy sweatpants, who knows!

I mainly wanted to say that your tumblr blog is like a breath of fresh air as someone who saw a lot of the pokemon character shipping wars when I first got into the fandom around 2015. I'm also an amourshipper, it was my first ship and the way I got into fandom, but I genuinely love seeing other ships also get love, multishipping is so fun and just freeing, like why choose when you can just enjoy both!

Also do you had any amourshipping headcanons?

I've been in this fandom on YouTube and on Deviantart since 2007, I thought it was so peaceful compared to the current shipping fights, Of course I was a person who rarely looked at ship comments, since I wasn't interested. I have had contact with many if not multi-shippers, they were respectful and seemed to make fanart of everything (Poke, Advanced, Pearl, Negai...even Amourshipping and Yumeshippers or Canon X OC), I think it helped me to be neutral in that sense...

Oh I just love them so much, I have so many different headcanons I consider them as multi verses (UAs) both what I wrote in 2013-2018 and what I did in this fandom in 2019-2023.

Well, let's take it one step at a time. In 2013, I started watching XY and joined the fandom on Deepy. I watched absolutely everything other than AMVs...uh I looked at FanFiction FF net (I used page translation to read on my first phone) and saw that there were many other different things, I chose some ships to write about... specifically (Amourshipping/Mirroramourshipping) being the main ones from my pre-teen era the second one I chose to write about was, Palleshipping (I thought I had to have a separate account for everything so... I kind of did something like "I was a Palleshipper") which wasn't very cool, but I apologize because I was a kid and didn't know that, I didn't need to go THAT FAR, and could have posted this on my main (2014-2015) I started reading Shinsato, before I saw some things but...it was just hitting some random site lol, I just ignored it. Sapphirepearlshipping IS THE NEXT WHO I CHOOSE WRITE 😭🩷🤎🧡🥰

But reading it all and rewatching it I know I'm neutral to the palettes on screen. I also got to write Gary X Serena lol I just didn't see it happening in the show but it was fun to make this conflict of feelings so you could say it's my fanon (this was probably the beginning of my bi Ash Ketchum headcanon)

When I was younger I didn't know about the things that PokémonRangerboyguy did, but...I remember watching his own videos with Fancyfashionshipping (Dawn X Serena with Lost in you style) so it began + my wlw Serena agenda and Dawn lesbian even more deeply (despite knowing Sana x Serena and Miette X Serena...I was more neutral towards them too and saw them as friends/BFF)

I admit that in my new rewatch... I was more in favor of Serena X Aria imo...

Now, let's go to part 2, wlw SatoSere this is something that I simply, ONLY found out about entering the miraculous fandom, they usually have a VERY strong headcanon wlw ship or mlm ship or male/fem genderswap...male Marinette/ trans Marinette/ transfem Adrien/ fem Adrien Agreste etc. I just took this and did the same for SatoSere (I already wrote Adrien X Marin and Marinette X Adrianne (which helped me to do Amourdreamshipping) crosdessering Ash in fem Ash slash SatoSere...many things I couldn't finish or start in 2016-2017 because at the time I didn't have time (in high school I tried teacher training and it took up all my time 😭🫠 so I deleted all the stories I was working on)

Now, the third part is that I REALLY LIKED MIRRIOR ASH HE SO CUTE AND HOLY SHIT IT TOOK MY MIND ✨⭐ I DID SO MUCH THINGS WITH HIM THAT I CAN'T SAY one blog without becoming bigger than it already is 😭 but one universe in particular is that he is AUTISTIC (before I was diagnosed with autism) so this is my favorite. ❤️🫠

TV SERIES: i don't really watch much tv shows in the first place, but when i do, usually queer relationships aren't the center of the plot. these are the shows, other than the famous ones, that i remember watching and liking!

Looking (2014-2016): Three best friends living in San Francisco share the nuances and complexities of contemporary gay relationships as they explore a variety of options, both in love and in life. They are unified by their close bond, but their search for happiness and intimacy has taken them on separate paths.

Interview With the Vampire (2022-Present): In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac lives in Dubai and seeks to tell the story of his life or afterlife to renowned journalist Daniel Molloy. All the transfem Uni stuff has kinda bothered us on a more personal level

We love seeing transfem rep don’t get us wrong! But the Uni fictive in our system wasn’t fem at all (note: we aren’t the system with a Uni who got called a “parody” or the fictive anon you’ve already seen; we’ve mostly kept to ourselves out of fear) and once the transfem confirmation came out and Kneeby started saying stuff about how nobody should see Uni as masc anymore (which we do understand the “why” of), Uni in our sys got REALLY upset

He was even more scared to exist than he was before bc he’s more masc aligned, and he was terrified that his existence and identity would hurt people (aka Kneeby) or get him hurt by the fandom

Now they’ve almost forced themself to be ok with fem pronouns and stuff (she seems happy and says it was just their identity shifting, but I’m really not sure…).

The fact that they were and still are so scared to even EXIST as themself (even though being different from source is one of the most common things for fictives) when this is supposed to be a disability-friendly place really says something about how harsh this community can be

Sorry about the sorta-vent but Uni’s been really wanting to get this off his chest and this seemed like a better place to talk about it than anywhere else

i may be a singlet but i resonate heavily with this. i remember early 2023, i was a uni fictionkin and this was basically my exact experience, im an autistic masc leaning gay enby and when i first got into sparklecare i saw myself in uni and projected everything about myself onto them, which included my identity for a while once i heard about the reveal. i felt erased by the reveal, and in all honesty i still sorta do even though i dont see myself in them at all anymore, considering how the actually mlm characters (mel cyn orange) are pushed to the side and given no screen time unless cyns trying to start fires.

i dont see myself in uni at all anymore, but i saw everything about myself in them at one point, and i was terrified of making myself a known figure at all in the fandom since i knew id be judged and criticized for being a masc gay and still resonating with uni. i spoke up about this, which i consider one of the worst mistakes ive ever made since im still hated to this day for it, by almost the entire fandom, even some of the clowns. ironically, i was the one being accused of erasure for speaking up about how the clowns seem to not want gay men in their comic.

Non-MLM peeps, I love you all and I know you’re just doing what has been done these past couple years, but please for the love of all that is gay please stop using that ugly green and blue flag that has all the charm of a glob of toothpaste and purports to be the “gay man flag” in your pride flag moodboards. That’s not the gay man flag. It’s a png someone made in five minutes in 2019. It doesn’t represent me just because someone on tumblr said it did.

We have a flag already. We’re fine, happy even, that its also a symbol of the entire queer community, if not the queer/LGBTQIA flag altogether as well. Any gay man who is upset about the rainbow pride flag being used to uplift the entire community is either a trans-exclusionist or needs to be taught queer history. The rainbow is all of us, and its also all of us. Its a unifying feature of our pride and we’re happy to have it, and we certainly don’t need to be told that that blue crime-against-color-theory represents us. The rainbow pride flag was invented by a gay man, for all queer people. I don’t know who came up with the green and blue flag, but it was made on tumblr in 2019 for a specific box of people with one label.

That’s just not what pride is about. Instead of subtly telling MLM what our pride flag is, kindly use one of these to represent us. Maybe even one of the ones that have been around for decades, or that indicate out inclusion of trans, non-white, and intersex people.

If you are mlm and you like the blue and green pride flag, that’s fine. But I want you to consider that because its been floating around the internet, corporations and merch-makers are starting to assume its the only gay man flag. And as much as I hate to admit it, that has had a real-life impact on the popularity and recognition of the rainbow pride flag. In addition to that, many people have forgotten that the rainbow pride flag is both the mlm and queer community flag because “gay men have a different flag”. I’m certain whoever made the green and blue flag never meant it to replace the rainbow flag, and I personally don’t want to live in a world where we forgot the things that made us a community.

Just consider that next time you create, disseminate, or share a moodboard or a post or a tweet prominently featuring the toothpaste pride flag as opposed to the rainbow flag, who might be watching? One great thing about the queer community is we have no one defining voice, but this can also be a huge detriment. People may assume one queer person’s affirmation on which flag means what constitutes all our support. You do not speak for me if you consider the green and blue flag the mlm flag. I never asked for that, and I was frankly disappointed when I saw people acting like that toothpaste-colored mess was my flag for the first time last year.

I feel like my story with accepting I'm a lesbian is a tricky one, and it only took until mid/late last year to truely accept. I came out at the age of 10 or 11, telling my mom I liked both girls and boys, but she told me I was too young to *choose* that. I came out about two more times over the next year or so, and when I was 12 or 13 I came out to her as transgender (male), and she automatically didn't fully accept it. She told me I was too young and I didn't really KNOW. Well, I wrote her a letter about it and she talked to my uncle's (married, who are gay) for advice, but they really couldn't give any. She accepted it, but it was hard for her. She didn't really use he/him pronouns and also didn't really try using my preferred name, but did make attempts.

When I was 15 I told my therapist that I was being abused by my father, and my mom had been told as it had to be reported. She then thought the only reason I wanted to be a boy was because of the abuse, but it took another year and seeing a doctor to get onto testosterone to tell her otherwise. Around that time I had been friends with/dating a guy that we were not compatible at all with, we were horrible for each other and nothing would've worked out, so my mental health was at a bad low. I identified as gay to bisexual, I think I was too scared of coming to say I only liked girls because that person had also been transmale, and I didn't want him to assume I saw him as female, which I never did. A part of me was also too scared to admit it because, my mom didnt really see me as male, and I didn't want to let her further down by saying I only liked girls. It was hard, I felt as if, even if I didn't identify as male, I still had to like guys.

At 16 I started testosterone hrt. At 18, my mom died. A lot of shit happened and I couldn't handle life basically. I continued to say I was bisexual to gay and then identify then as transmasculine non-binary around 18 as well. Again, I was too ashamed to admit I like only females, also because I absolutely loved male fictional characters (so that had to make me gay mlm, right?)

Then in 2022 I realized I'm not transmale, and that's okay, it's how I thought I identified and that's valid, but I did identify as masc nonbinary. Then I tried to accept that I loved only girls, but I was ashamed because I didn't want to let anyone down by liking them, so I went and said I was bisexual so it'd seem "better." (I also do not care what's in their pants, as long as they identify as female. So yes ily nb and transfems <3 I prefer personality and actions more than anything.)

Something happened late 2023, I'm not sure what, but I set in the fact I'm a lesbian (and also genderfluid). I felt shame, but I have amazing friends who keep me solid, and also joked about being a lesbian. I never had such a strong friend support system before, and they all mean the world to me. I still feel like I'm letting people down by not liking men, but I'm happy now. My little genderfluid and lesbian self can't be happier.

It took a LONG time, but I'm glad.

So a little inside baseball ... but let's assume you are excited about starting a female empowerment narrative pro sports league for a niche sport that's never been done before where athletes get to tell their own story and make cash so they can continue their sport after college.

Narrator: It's not the first time, it's only new in concept in that it's structure is more ambitious and less obviously feasible.

So you are wanting to start a pro league for, let's say for the sake of argument, oh I don't know, women's gymnastics. You have all this attractive market research data available based on the popularity of NCAA gymnastics. But one of the very basic things when you launch a new product is you see if someone has launched a similar product before or if there is a similar product else where in the world.

Narrator: Yeah that step? These people don't appear to have done that.

So talking to some people who have heard the pitches for this league both to sponsors and athletes here is the first major mistake they made (aside from you know, not doing research). Imagine that you are some well meaning gymnastics coaches and a marketing executive that has tried to start several (apparently folded) sports leagues in the past. You've lived through the dumpster fire of the USAG sexual abuse scandal. You think... oh I'm going to tell all these potential sponsors that we have nothing to do with USA Gymnastics. That will give them confidence.

And maybe at the height of the dumpster fire in 2018 in the wake of the victim impact statements that might have been the call. But it's a terrible reading of the room now. And really it was a terrible reading of the room a year ago when they apparently started pitching this to sponsors. Corporate sponsors have been returning to USAG. Whatever you think of Li Li, this was her job, to right the ship and her job experience (unlike the women running this enterprise) is dealing with major sponsors. So what the pro league people thought was going to be reassuring to sponsors in fact was a red flag to them.

See, no one loves a sports national governing body (or an international one), but what they have is institutional knowledge, access to equipment manufacturers, to athletes, to venues, they know how to run meets and in general they provide a certain amount of safety net on basic organizational issues. Every sports league founded in the last few decades that is successful has some support from the governing body even when there is tension between the players and that organization. The national women's soccer league has ties to USA Soccer because you need those ties to function as a league and I promise you there is no more love between women's soccer player/fans and USA Soccer than there ever was between USAG and women's gymnastic fans.

This stance probably seemed even more out of touch in 2023 than it was in 2022 as USAG emerged from the sponsorship wilderness and started seeing much bigger names having confidence in putting their names next to them.

Who in this group decided that "we have nothing to do with USAG" was a good move I don't know.

They also apparently spent a lot of time being concerned that the potential sponsors fit their leagues ethos. Which is not inherently bad, you don't want a case like US Figure Skating being sponsored by the It's not a Diet It's an Eating Disorder App - Noom. But that becomes less something I trust them with when one of the big name founders has previously shilled a weight loss MLM.

But anyway apparently the sponsors also looked at the reaction among the fandom to the launch of the website in June and were put off by the fact that there was less enthusiasm and more skepticism than the league founders had expected.

I know I was active in those few discussions and if I was a sponsor I'd probably be concerned about one of the things that @darthmelyanna raised: the nature of gymnastics means injuries will happen and the league didn't seem to be providing insurance meaning that we were likely to see a lot of medical expense Go Fund Me's n the future.

But all of these missteps with sponsors also has a side issue. Apparently they finally did realize they need to get insurance for their league (I can't imagine a venue was willing to host one of their events without it and I would hope that athletes wouldn't be signing up to this without it). Supposedly they then went to USAG... the organization who they were badmouthing to sponsors (who themselves were trying to recover sponsors so was very much aware of that)... and they inquired about getting USAG to add them to their insurance pool for gyms.

I'll just let you think about what the answer might be to that. Because that would be a profoundly bad financial stewardship decision for USAG to do for their overall membership/insurance pool. Even if they wanted to help these people.
