This was the seventh (and last) of my revamped Whinfell designs. 🐎✨ Originally posted on my alt instagram account.
Meet the Azahar Whinfell. 🌻 AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: I made these BEFORE SSO released the Nemain (magic halloween shire).
The name Azahar means orange blossom in Spanish. It is derived from the Arabic word, زهرة (zahrah) meaning "flower." I opted to keep the same theme for all of the whinfells when I first started discussing the remake. I had an idea to maybe change the mane style for this guy to make it stand out among the rest but that was voted against by my clubmates. I still wanted it to give off Halloween/Autumn themes though, so I really tried to lean into making it fiery and fall colored. The moth we chose even ended up being one that is primarily active in the fall so it was a great fit. In the end the less overly saturated color option won out in the voting process, but it was still such a super fun challenge to tackle. Lore:
"The Azahar Whinfell makes its home in deciduous temperate forests where it feeds on lichen and moss. It is much more active in the autumnal months as it's orange and red coat blends in with the surrounding foliage during this time. However, one may have the rare chance to find it during the summer hanging around Cappadocian and Red maple trees. They also adore sugar maple bark, so if you like maple syrup, this is the Whinfell for you.
The Azahar's magical coat was based on the Painted lichen moth, while their neutral coat is a flaxen black chestnut.
You may also notice the neutral coat has a dorsal stripe and a small spot on its forehead. This was intentional. The Azahar may be able to magically hide its form, but these are tiny giveaways to their true selves."

My #1 post of 2022
Rainbow horse 2!
This one was a pain to draw! (those are supposed to be flowers in the tail...)
I combined the ribbons/flowers idea, but honestly I kind of prefer the ribbons; I don’t think we’ve had any horses with ribbons braided into the mane yet.

SSO Horse Name Ideas #1: Fastflyer
(Please Note: I posted this on Facebook ages ago before the antivirus photo bug reared its ugly head and some of the format's a little outdated as I was merely testing the waters)
Some of my favourite things to do in the game are thinking up meaningful/cool sounding/suitable names for horses, and creating matching gear & outfits, so in an attempt to remain a little more active -every now and then- I'll be posting some pics of a featured horse I own, along with his/her chosen tack set and outfit for my avatar, and provide some info about them. The idea behind this is to hopefully be of some assistance to other players who may be looking for a name and/or tack & gear set for a horse and rider. :) Since there are so many horses and tons of gear ingame these days, finding the right stuff for you isn't always easy, so hopefully this will give you some ideas. :)
FEATURED HORSE: Fastflyer 'Fledge'
BREED: Pinto Arabian 'Pintabian' (Gen 2)
GENDER: Stallion
LOCATION: Currently Paddock Island
Admittedly, he was a tough one to name for me thanks to his buckskin pinto colouring, so I instead turned to his given personality and age when it came to naming him.
He's a very young stallion at three and a half years and just under saddle, but an extremely FAST learner, willing and already showing signs of becoming a great jumper (hence the 'flyer' part).
The word 'Fledge' [verb], refers to (that of a young bird [a fledgling]) developing wing feathers strong and large enough for flight. His nickname gives both the impression that he's a young horse ready to take flight, whilst his ingame name is a nod towards his speed (in both development and perhaps natural running gait) and his establishing jumping prowess.
TIPS: A name like this will suit any horse you know that's speedy, perhaps young and growing up fast, or is a great jumper.
COAT COLOURS: Any coat colour will suit this name. A lot of 'browns' come to mind initially such as bays, chestnuts, browns, palominos and of course, buckskins. :)
GENDER: (If you give your horses genders of course) Either works.
If you wish to, feel free to also check out Fledge's tack set here.
Thank you so much for reading and happy riding. :)

FFXIV Characters as Star Stable Players
Went through a ton of them talking to my friends and thought maybe some people out there somewhere might enjoy these so look below the cut to begin bc there's a lot of them.
Alphinaud: Every horse is level 15. He feeds them every day. Meticulously plans the best gear out for racing and studies each track. Top high score racer on his server, also does champs in his spare time. Will talk about racing to anyone who will listen
Alisaie: All her horses range from levels 1-5 and are depressed. She never feeds them, she's not wasting star coins on stable care when she could be saving up for another horse for her collection. Beat Alphie in a championship one time, will not let him live it down. Spends most of her time either chasing Alphie around or messing with her friends.
Thancred: has no idea what hes doing but Ryne really likes this game so he's playing with her. Lets her pick and name horses for him.
Ryne: Adores all of the horses. Roped both Thancred and Gaia into playing with her. All of her horses have names and personalities and she loves talking about them. Never asks for star coins because they're expensive, but Thancred always gifts her some on double sc weekend.
Gaia: Another one in the 'never feeds the horses club' has one Friesian and insists it's the best horse in the game and the only one she needs. It's level 15 bc she literally never rides another horse. Mostly plays with Ryne. Wrote a backstory for her horse at Ryne's urging, it's very edgy and tragic.
Y'shtola: Rarely plays. Saves up for a horse, logs on, buys it, takes pictures of it, and leaves for another two months until she can afford another.
Urianger: Spends 300 years naming each horse. Has an entire backstory for his character and all of their horses. Obsessed with the lore, frequently writes long lore posts for sso tumblr. Ryne loves reading his fics. Owns all of the old disc games, spent forever trying to get ahold of them and now treasures them.
G'raha Tia: The WoL likes this game so he expected it to be amazing. Ended up playing mostly with the others, but not really on his own. He just really likes hanging out with everyone else. Thinks all of the horses are nice, could never criticize a new release. Probably named his starter after the WoL or asked them to name it for him.
Emet-Selch: Hates every update. Writes long tumblr posts about how the game is terrible now and used to be better. Only rides old models, has thousands of star coins saved because he refuses to buy any of the new horses.
Lahabrea: Constantly leaves comments on sso's instagram about what they should add to the game. Takes it personally when those things don't appear literally the next week. People wonder why he still plays this game bc all he does is complain on instagram over stupid things. Still adores each of his horses and knows their names and personalities.
Elidibus: Analyzes every update and its pros and cons. Thinks SSO should hire him. Posts carefully worded critique posts that he spent hours thinking out. Forgets to actually play the game because he's so focused on doing this.
Aymeric: Loves taking screenshots. Will carefully coordinate every outfit and tack set he has and loves spending his time on it. Probably an instagram celebrity, maybe even an ambassador. Owns a well known club. Only says nice things about the game online to avoid drama, but admits criticisms to his friends.
Estinien: Instagram famous only because he's in Aym's club and Aym posts about him a lot. Complains about other players annoying him. Eventually privates his account bc Aym's fans are driving him insane. People probably wonder why Aym hangs out with him. Lets Aym take screenshots of him and goes to all the club events even though he'd rather just play his msq and save up for horses because he knows Aym is happy.
Lucia: acts as the co owner of Aym's ingame club. Helps filter out some of the chaotic join requests they constantly get. Manages the wait list, handles the club instagram page. Likes to run her training route every day.
Haurchefant: Thinks every horse is great, also in Aym's club. Loves being an instagram celebrity and talks to his fans all the time. Writes lots of posts about how great his friends and the game are. He's just here to have a good time.
Zenos: wants to race against everyone all the time. Gets mad if you say no. Competes with Alphie for those top scores on the server. Probably has one of those ongoing weirdly dark Instagram story accounts where characters like die and horses are stolen/abused and such.
Ysayle: collects pretty horses and enjoys screenshotting them. Likes light colors and a winter type aesthetic. Her club is the other big club on the server besides Aym's. They all ride white horses and matching outfits. She tries really hard to diffuse any drama in the community.
Hien: honestly just probably having a fun time. Likes to host tumblr meet ups just to talk to the people and hang out. Posts mediocre memes that are really only successful bc he's the most active meme page on tumblr. Everyone knows he's a really chill guy.
Arenvald: Probably plays with Alphinaud sometimes but is a little lost when Alphie starts talking about his racing obsession. Still likes to hang out with him even though Alphie crushes him whenever they race.
Minfillia: Owns the club all the scions are in, but it's really just a club for their friend group to chill in. Probably plans events for them all and coordinates everything so that everyone can make it. Takes good care of all her horses, reminds everyone to buy stable care each week even if they dont actually do it.
Lyse: Only feeds the horse she's riding. Loves running championships just for fun on whatever horse she happens to have when the announcement pops up for one. Chats with other players in the race waiting areas, and sometimes even in global if theres nothing happening.
Papalymo: Plays with Lyse. Tries to tell her she'd have more success in champs if she fed her horses and got some tack with actual stats, but she doesn't listen. Sometimes lets her beat him so she feels good about the race.
Fandaniel: insane. Constantly bugs the game and glitches into locked areas. Brags about it to anyone who will listen.
Magnai: really wants to start a romance RP in global. Never finds anyone who wants to play bc everyone reminds him they're against the game's rules.
Sadu: probably making fun of Magnai in global. Likes to start fights in that chat.
Nero: loves finding glitches and testing exploits. Knows a concerning number of ways to use cheat engine for funny things without being banned. Never actually cheats and uses these things solely for meme purposes. Probably leaks horse coats/models online before release just to watch the chaos.
Cid: Also good at finding bugs, but does so in order to report them to SSO support. Nero hates him reporting all the good bugs.
Ardbert: Has a little friend group club with the the other heros from the first. Doesn't really use social media, they prefer to just use their discord server with each other. All of them train together most afternoons.
Tataru: Her gear closet is perfectly organized. Every horse has an assigned stall. Also writes them backstories. Plans out her star coin saving months in advance and exactly what horses she'll buy in what order. Does not stray from it even if a new one comes out, she'll add it on to the end.
Krile: Another lore nerd, started playing at the same time Alphie did and sometimes reminds him about what he was like as a new player. Loves writing and responding to lore posts. Her and Urianger probably interact online a lot.
Louisoix: Played star stable years ago, was super famous in the community. Quit playing a couple years ago but everyone still talks about him. Others desperately try to be like him, but nobody can fill his shoes in the community.
Forchenault: Writes extensive posts of what he thinks of the game, mostly complaints. Will fight anyone who disagrees. Refuses to meet up with anyone else ingame, nobody actually knows if he even logs on still or just complains. Thinks actually playing every day is a waste of time.
Ashai: Instagram fanboy for zenos and his weirdly dark story. Zenos isn't even famous, he has like 220 followers, but Asahi worships the ground he walks on. Runs a fanpage for him where he just reposts Zenos's screenshots/edits and talks about how great they are. Draws fanart too, but he's a terrible artist. Zenos pretends he doesnt exist. Purposely switched his server to the one Zenos plays on and always keeps an eye out for him.

Jade’s SSO Rambles - 5 Current Care System
(Please keep in mind that these are my thoughts and opinions at the time of writing these rambles. I may change my mind in the future.)
Before beginning I want to establish that this particular rambles topic is purely my current thoughts on care system we have now. I want to explore further how horse care can function in game but due to how much I’ve struggled with trying to articulate I’m going to post my current thoughts now and I hope to return to the topic in the future. I would especially like to come up with better suggestions for a full overhaul as I have some fun ideas related to our new crafting mechanics that were just released and some other ideas I have brewing in my brain.
Horse Care Praise
I hate to criticize or suggest adjustments to anything without offering a positive outlook on what I believe is done well about the aspects I want changed. It’s also good to take note of these parts as they could potentially be something worth working into the overhauled system.
I appreciate that unlike 90% of horse games that have been around (at least since I was a kid and amongst those I’ve found in my own horse game research) that SSO and the other Star Stable PC games have always kept the actual horse care aspect simple. You take whatever you want to care for a horse with and use it on them without having to go through a mini-game. It’s a simple animation or one and done action. This is important to me when you have to do this on a regular basis or to a large amount of horses. (Only issue is that loading bar and some other small UI nit-picks.)
The functioning wash stall is a nice addition to the game, I appreciate how it actually acts as a grooming interaction on your horse too and temporarily removes the tack. The only thing I wish we had was a way to activate photo mode and have slightly more free camera movement and the hidden UI like our horse’s name and hiding all sparkles while activated. (I also adore the little easter egg where you dance in the suds.)
I appreciate all the different items we’re able to feed our horses. It’s also kind of neat that while normal items like apples, carrots and hay are available in all the standard feed shops there’s special harder to get items too. Such as the produce cart in Aideen’s Plaza or when we get holiday items. (Like from the little helpers or 2019’s birthday cakes!)
Horses App
I think in terms of mini-games that the way the foal app does it is actually pretty enjoyable. This is a little bit off topic since it delves into the app instead of SSO itself but an equally noteworthy topic especially if the team ends up pulling aspects of the mini-games into SSO. I like that it doesn’t take an extreme amount of work like some games do and that the hoof picking especially has noticeable spots to clean and you only do one hoof. (I also appreciate that it looks like actual objects falling off, sure it’s not realistic but it’s more appealing than other games I’ve seen.) The only thing I’ve ever had an issue with is the petting which seems to have problems with detection of the touch screen.
Overall the visual effects are pleasant and I love the fact you don’t have to cover every inch of the horse for it to count. You can just keep grooming the same spot for the brush and washing and it works instead of trying to hunt the tiny section you missed besides for when you wash soap off. (Which makes sense, you wash where you put it.)
I also like that the horses seem to have certain foods they like or prefer more. Though I personally would like to see it that they eat anything but have certain foods they like more than others.
In terms of the training I really love that we can run our horse through ground work with lunging, cavaletti, free jumping and the sorta tricks teaching and side pass work. These are aspects I would really love to see integrated into SSO as other options for training our horses outside of running the same races over and over. If the first person view isn’t kept though I do think the player movement both mechanically and visually will need an update. The only noticeable gameplay issue I could see is in terms of accessibility if mouse movement was used to replace the touch screen element.
Basic Care System Suggestions
These are aspects I think should be for the most part implemented regardless of how the team goes about updating the caring system unless it becomes redundant.
As I praised above, keep a simplistic means of doing horse care for accessibility and even if it doesn’t have any effects it’s still nice for roleplay. Either keep it down to a simple click and drag or you press an interact button.
Remove designated care areas and let players do basic care actions such as brushing, hoof picking, watering and feeding anywhere. (Care areas such as those in and around stables.)
Remove excess UI such as the loading bar and only have the animations playing. Also remove the blinking or fading black screens. If necessary simply have the player clip into place like when mounting and let them move from where they are after the animation. (Unless it could cause issues with players clipping through walls.) Also remove the bar across the top and make any updates to your horse less intrusive such as the using the notification box in the corner.
Reasons to Remove Current Happiness System
While I don’t have any promising ideas for replacing the current system I didn’t want to leave out my reasoning for removing the current “mood/happiness” system and the buffs/debuffs associated with daily care of your horse.
Higher Player Accessibility
Players are not required to perform the care in order to have non-debuffed/faster horses. (Especially those with disabilities.)
No guilt over having to either leave horses extremely unhappy or for having to use star coins to tend to all of them.
Players can ride any horse they own at any time, therefore increasing enjoyment of their current horses and allowing them to participate in unique events related to specific breeds.
Removes Feelings of Punishment/Positive Reward For Not Playing
If a player is unable to log in on a daily basis they are immediately punished by losing happiness with their uncared for horses. Even one day is a rather big nuisance and cannot be rectified immediately other than through paying a large sum of SC to the vet. Removing this aspect will garner player happiness and remove a reason for the player to not want to return to the game.
Removes the aspect that using the app to pay for horse care has induced that basically rewards players for not playing the game as they don’t even need to log into the game in order to have their horses cared for.
Provides Additional Reason to Buy More Horses
Players will be more willing to purchase additional horses because of the former reasons. There are little to no negative connotations with owning a massive hoard of horses if daily care requirement is removed.
Players will also be more willing to buy horses as they will no longer have to balance paying for stable care versus paying for a new horse.
Extra Notes
I think adding the foal app mini-games especially for grooming (and maybe training in the future) would be a good idea. These could be accessible in the home stable wash stall or at the wash stalls in places such as the Rescue Ranch and Starshine Ranch.
The mini-games should remain as completely optional and more interactive, engaging and roleplaying based way for the player to interact with their horse. As mentioned in Amelia and Leila’s interview it would also provide additional repeatable gameplay especially for younger audiences.
If daily feeding is required I think going with an idea similar to Amelia’s suggestion for a silo from the interview with Leila would be a good idea. I personally think either setting this up via the bulletin board or having it in the feed room would work best. The player could then buy hay from the food stalls and fill up their feed storage to act as a shillings based auto-care system. (I also think if a means of crafting food that buffs your horses is added then you could add it to the auto feeding to apply it to all your horses.)
Also in regards to the vet currently, I feel the price is absurd to pay to get your horse to max happiness. It should not cost me a week’s worth allowance of free currency to max 1 horse. Either it should be 100 to max my entire stable or should be far cheaper to max a single horse. I would argue no more than 25 SC at most with 10-15 being preferable. I would also like to see an alternate option to pay in a large amount of shillings for the vet.
I’d like to see stable care changed from 7 SC a day to 5 SC if we don’t have any shillings alternative systems in place. Even then 5 SC a day is still better as it is easier (at least where I’m from, not sure elsewhere) to count by. Most of the horses are for sale in multiples of 5 (650, 825, 900, ect) and would make pricing easier on players. I would argue anything sold for SC should be done in multiples of 5 but stable care is the most commonly purchased thing beyond horses. (Since most apparel can be bought with shillings instead and not many items are SC only.)
Alternate System Suggestion
So while I haven’t been able to think of a better system overhaul I did come up with something that feels like a step in between our current system and a brand new one. I don’t think this is the best way to approach updating how horse care works but I wanted to mention it in case it can help inspire ideas from others on how to do a better update.
The basic idea is running on a “3 tier” happiness system where you horse is either happy, unhappy or miserable. (Instead of the 5 stage system we currently have.) This includes 3 tiers of caring as well.
Horses can be brought from miserable to happy in one day without paying SC and can be done to any number of horses but requires more effort than paying a vet.
Taking care of your horse daily results in the least amount of time and effort required to maintain the horse’s happiness. However stable care isn’t necessary and the player can mostly avoid the punishment issues even if they don’t because they can raise their horses’ happiness up without paying SC if they are willing to put time and effort in.
Overall this idea is very rough and I’m sure would require quite a bit of additional work especially as I unfortunately don’t know how the programming/coding side would work.
Alternate System Breakdown
Each action adds points to the horse’s overall happiness. Basic actions such as brushing, hoof picking, watering and feeding your horse hay will be the equivalent of +1 happiness. More advanced actions will give the player higher amounts of happiness such as using the wash stall or other special designated grooming areas. (Not care areas like around stables but more like the stations at the ranches.) Certain foods will reward higher happiness points so an apple, carrot or orange might be +2 instead of 1.
When a horse is miserable the only way to reach full happiness is by visiting a vet in order to use a care station with them. This wouldn’t require SC but instead would be similar to how the Rescue Ranch worked where you perform an action with the horse to give it the final boost required to reach full happiness in one day.
Doing tier 1 or 2 caring for your horse subsequent days in a row would be enough to raise them to max happiness again. It should only take about 3 days at most to reach it. I’m not certain if continually feeding your horse should theoretically be able to max happiness, I was considering having food max out in terms of how much it can do. (“Your horse is full and cannot eat anymore” or something like that.)
In terms of a point system doing basic care is enough to maintain horse happiness every day and is enough to go from an unhappy status to happy. Going from miserable to happy would require a certain number of food (which could be its own point system potentially?) combined with the full amount of care options available from the basic tier 1 and 2 grooming to the tier 3 vet assistance.
Lastly, I would prefer to have the requirement of daily feeding removed from the game entirely so I don’t feel this is the best way to replace our current system. As I discussed with a friend I think part of the problem keeping this in SSO is the fact the game’s time is tied with real life time. I don’t mind daily feeding of my animals in something such as Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley because time is different and unrelated to when I’m available to play. I can play through a week’s worth of time in game during a single day’s play session in real life. But I can also abandon the game for a month and come back to find everything as I left it unlike in SSO. If I leave that long then all my horses will be miserable unless I pay for stable care with premium currency and it will take a week or so bare minimum to get anyone up to max happiness again without paying 100 SC per horse. For a game that wants players to keep paying either via subscriptions and/or with the multitude of horses released it really doesn’t make sense to keep such a punishing system in game. I can see where starting out that makes sense as a game mechanic but it is incredibly outdated and long over due to be replaced either with a long term solution or a short term one.
Link to Amelia’s interview with GM Leila.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read through my thoughts! I hope I’ll be able to come back to this topic in the future with some additional ideas that would expand upon the game rather than simply analyzing our current gameplay.
If you have anything you’d like to add feel free to respond via reblogging, replying or shooting me an ask!

Can We Discuss Character Slots?
I just talked about how retconning does a lot of damage to the story because it splits the audience’s perception on characters. So, let’s talk about the solution to that: Multiple character slots.
I want to lead this with what Leila talked about in the interview. Adding multiple character slots is something the team wants to do. SSO’s team or at least Leila, doesn’t like people buying multiple accounts to experience the story. However, there is a huge can of worms with untangling that mess. Accounts are linked to your character name over a user name, there’s a heavy focus on email addresses that players can’t easily change, and who knows what other nonsense behind the scenes. However, I think this would be a huge deal for the team to figure out still because of what it would mean for the community.
Being able to replay story is a huge deal, particularly when there has been some heavy retcon and the game is a bit steep to get into to play again. And when story is such a big focus, having an option to experience that again would be amazing, and I think in a way that memory quests can’t do. So, I want to present a few ideas for multiple character slots I think would work really well.
Price
To start this off is to debate how much a character slot should be worth. Personally, I think 500 SC is fair, particularly because of my following suggestion. I don’t think it should be too expensive, or people will be discouraged to buy them, but I don’t think they should be too inexpensive that they’re just throw away. I think anyone should be able to buy at least 3 character slots for 500 SC and Lifetime members in particular should be able to buy more, starting at, let’s say 10. 500 SC without paying is about a month, which means you’ll likely be a month into another character before you even can consider playing another, and that’s even if you don’t want to buy a horse instead.
Stable & Currency Sharing
There are very few things I think should be copied over between multiple accounts. I think rep quests, as much as they might be a pain to replay, are a part of SSO’s core loop. Making them less grindy is more about fixing those as a system than taking them out. Personally, I think the only things that should be shared between accounts are currencies and horses.
Now, I don’t mean stables. I think each character should have their own stables and their own starter. But, I think each account should share horses, because those are currently big ticket items. And a lot of people buy horses for particular character as is. The pasture should be shared between accounts and when you log on to any character, if a horse is in the pasture, you should be able to drag it into that character’s stable and build their barn.
Further, I think currency should be shared. I think shillings having a cap, ignoring archaeology, isn’t the best plan for an MMO. However, having a side character that shares shillings with your main means you can grind on one character to earn rewards on another to play on more often, which encourages getting more characters. It also means shillings need more of a use, but that’s another topic. But it also means Star Coins are shared, which goes back to that all horses are shared topic.
Merging Accounts
One of the hurdles Leila talked about with getting multiple character slots is a lot of people are going to want to merge accounts. And while it is possible, it’s also going to be difficult for the team, likely involving payment invoicing to prove the same person is asking. While I understand the protection, I feel like there could be an automated SMS kind of system set up a lot easier. Say there’s a $0 Merge Account - Main and $0 Merge Account - Side option in the store. On the account Main account you want to have everything centralized on, you purchase this Merge Account, which sends you an automated code. Then, on the Side account you input the automated code.
Because there’s a payment requirement, you have to put in credit card information, which gives something the team could match against if there was a claim filed against the merge, both for the merge itself and against previous purchases, without requiring there to be a purchase made.
Usernames & Character Names
A big hurdle for having this system to is that every account will need a username instead of relying on the character name. But, I think that opens a lot of potential. If this system were to be put in place, that already means the accounts would be untangled from those names, which means two requested features could be added:
1) Players could change their characters’ names because character names wouldn’t be directly linked to their user information.
2) Players could add custom names to be reviewed. I think one of the things Free Realms did right before it crashed was have a name picker like SSO’s and a custom name option. If you put in a custom name, you still had to pick a name from the naming options, BUT after you custom name was reviewed, it would switch. I think this would add a lot of options to the names in SSO and cut down on how often SSO has to put in more name options (even if there are millions of combos).
Look, I have no idea what goes into untangling this mess, but being able to replay quests is a HUGE deal for me and I can’t afford to buy Lifetime. I know I’m not the only one. I’ve talked about maybe buying 12 months of membership should upgrade you to Lifetime, but even then, that’s a long time to wait for replaying quests. Not to mention if SSO does expand character customization, I want to be able to buy a character slot and start from the beginning with them. So, these are just a few of my wishlist items if we see that system, but I also feel like would make the system work really well.

1. How often do you participate in Championships?
A couple days a month, used to be a few times a week, really depends on how active I am on sso in general, as well as how active friends are.
2. Why do you/don't you participate in Championships?
Why I Do:
With friends for fun. Most important, it’s like 90% of why I champ.
The achievements
Getting shillings and ribbons to sell
Why I Don’t:
I've gotten the achievements
Often the days friends and I are up to champing there are only a few champs so we simply run out of champs to do
Or it's the 2 hour gap and we don't want to stand around SSO for 2 hours until the champs start again, so we stop
The shilling reward doesn't seem worth it anymore
I feel bad “taking” ribbons from other people who might be trying to get the achievements done
Sometimes it's just too crowded and laggy to be competitive, or the same 2 or 3 people are consistently dominating the ribbons so -shrug- screw trying to get achievements or ribbons.
3. What other sentiments or feedback have you heard from other players, friends, club members, or the community at large?
Usually wanting more champs throughout the day. I certainly wouldn't mind champs running every 15 or 30 minutes from say, 10am to 10pm server time, ideally later on the weekend, like 8am-midnight Friday+Saturday maybe Sunday?
Have multiple champs running at once, which would (theoretically) help with lag because instead of everyone champing congregating in one area of the map they'd be split between 2 or maybe even 3 areas. Also makes it easier for people to get the achievements.
Have a better split of champ groups, so lower level players can be competitive and have a chance of getting those achievements done. Something so you compete with people around your level, or with people who have won as often (or not often) as you.
Better rewards, no surprise.
4. What do you feel would make Championships more engaging?
Better rewards for sure. Even if it's just bumping up participation rewards to 50 shillings that's doubling it and makes it a little more enticing. Would probably need to adjust how much ribbons sell for if the participation reward is 50 shillings, as 3rd place ribbons are worth 100 shillings I think?
Horse XP reward would be neat, and tempt people into training with champs which would (possibly) change how people treat and enter champs and who would win. The XP reward should not be tied to your finishing position, it should be if you complete this champ the horse gets this amount of xp. And auto completes/adds the xp, so people can't compete on a fully trained horse and then go trade in the xp.
Making it seem more fair/like something you can win, rather than a couple people who always win and you have to get lucky and be on when they aren't on. Adding/changing how champ groups are divided would probably help (smaller max size, based on level, people with the achievements done split from people who haven't, etc). Also adding more champ times and more champs running concurrently = more chances to run means more chances for practice and getting a ribbon.
Having a way to practice champs (without reward) or host your own would be nice. This could provide a function for clubs, I’ll expand in the next point.
Clubs could host/”pay for” a champ to run that are either private to the club or open to the server, which would be nice for people hosting events or doing livestreams. May need a sort of bank option to allow a club to pay for it in shillings (say cost 2k shillings? that’d cover 1st (500), 2nd (250), and 3rd (100) place ribbon sell prices as well as a 50 shilling participation reward for 23 people, so it’d cover at least one race group) or more likely it’d be a star coin cost. The cost of ‘hosting’ a championship will probably be dependent on if there are rewards comparable to regular champs. I’d think that it should just be shilling rewards if there are any rewards at all. Definitely not horse experience. Maybe there are different tiers you can pay for, like if you host a champ and pay for it with shillings you just get a shilling reward for the champ, no ribbons. But if you pay with star coins you can get ribbons, which may be used as a cheaty way to get the achievements, but Star Stable gets money from the star coins and the achievements don’t actually do anything, you can’t even show them off, so ‘paying’ for an achievement doesn’t benefit the player in any way other than they now have different image in their achievement book. I have no idea what the star coin cost would be to host a champ, and I’m sure it could be argued for any price. It’s only like 50 star coins to make a club (why is changing a horse name almost triple that???) so I could see why it could be argued that hosting a champ should be less star coins than making a club, as hosting a champ is a one time thing and making a club is a long term thing, but I can also see why you could argue that a champ should be 200 (or more) star coins because it is triggering an event in the game so probably quite complicated, so even if hosting champs would be a great thing for player/community relations it’s not necessarily something you want happening every 5 minutes in a server, so a higher star coin price tag would help with that.
oh I wouldn’t mind if there were more champs added, like one on South Hoof starting on the rescue ranch? Or one in Mistfall hosted by Dundull, or the Rangers, or maybe even Kristy? One in Dino would be hilarious, especially if you added the ice sliding physics from the Winter Village to the ice for a Dino Champ. Just to kill us more XD
I’m so sorry Leila.

Completely Harmless Ch. 21
Completely Harmless An SSO SilverGlade Re-imagining Story (Or Fix it Fan Salt fic) By Ginny O.
When Lily and her friends wanted to buy horses and were directed to the Silverglade Manor and its myriad of problems, they didn’t expect to start a revolution. They were just a bunch a stable girls. Completely harmless. Right?
A/N: Things are only canon if I say they’re canon. Pre-Saving the Moorland Stables compliant for the most part. Posted in its entirety on my website. Posted in 2000 to 4000 word bits here. Rated T for Swearing Word Count 177,577
Chapter Twenty-One Did Someone Say Ice Cream?
The email Lily received from Aaron Silverglade was next to incoherent. Oh, there were legible words, but they didn’t string together to make any sense. He sounded quite upset, as much as written words could sound upset.
Lily hopped a bus to Jorvik City and met him at Leonardo’s.
“Sir Aaron, whatever is the matter,” she asked as soon as she was certain that he had a fortifying sundae and stiff coffee in front of him. They sat under one of the umbrella tables outside of Leonardo’s.
“I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m going to fail miserably and make my mother more disappointed in me. I don’t know why I ever thought this was a good idea. Anastasia is doing so much better at this than I am and I can feel mother’s icy disapproval from here. Why can’t I be more like mother?”
Lily’s eyes widened. “Slow down! Your mother loves you. You just helped her achieve a huge victory against G.E.D. by getting rid of those oil rigs. Not that you need to do things like that for her to love you. She loves you no matter what. Now, exactly what is the problem?”
“I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“What, what?” Lily waved her spoon. “The oil rigs are gone. We’re revitalizing the paddock. The race track can now move forward.”
“With the ice cream bar,” Aaron waved his hands and then slumped.
Lily blinked rapidly. “You know everything about ice cream.”
“But, what to call it? How to decorate it? I don’t know anything about that!”
Lily reached out and grabbed his hand and squeezed it. “You don’t have to.”
“But, but,” Aaron sputtered.
“That is what professionals are for. There are professional decorators. And professional marketers.” Lily sniffed. “Really, Dame Anastasia copped out by naming the restaurant the Silver Glade. That’s an easy go to stand by.”
Aaron bit his lip hard. He dug into his ice cream and took a few bites.
“Now,” Lily took out her phone and did a search for the decorator. She found the phone number and slid her phone over to Aaron. “Here is the decorator your sister hired for the restaurant.”
Aaron stared at it.
“Call him,” Lily urged.
Aaron reached for his phone and slowly dialed the number. He explained who he was and what he was trying to do. He took the phone away from his ear and looked at it with a frown on his face, brow furrowed. “He’s on his way. Since, we’re having ice cream.”
“We must have been photographed on social media.”
“Oh dear. I hope they aren’t saying anything salacious.”
Lily did a quick search. “Not really? They don’t know who I am and I’m wearing Silverglade Clan colors.”
“Hmm,” Aaron said.
“Random employee pep talk,” Lily shrugged and put it away.
“We should be more careful,” Aaron mumbled.
“That could make things worse,” Lily told him. She ate her ice cream. “I confess I don’t know a lot about wine or ice cream. Other than it is tasty and I like eating it.”
Aaron fidgeted. “Well, the winery is a very lucrative business and it could be more so. You see, the price of wine really depends on its scarcity. A good bottle of wine can sell for at least 500 Jorvik shillings.”
Lily got out her phone and did a currency conversion. “So, 20 American dollars?” It appeared that 1 dollar equaled 25 Jorvik Shillings. And 100 Jorvik shillings equaled 1 star coin. (Lily made a note to never use star coins on the transport.) So, 100 Jorvik shillings was roughly 4 American dollars in market value.
“I suppose,” Aaron blinked. He stirred his ice cream. “Of course, the price of an individual bottle goes down as you order more volume. But depending on the amount of wine made and sold in a year, a winery as big as mothers can make 50 billion shillings a year.”
Lily did the conversion on her phone. “2 billion dollars a year?”
“Not every year and, between you and I, we aren’t currently making nearly that much as we don’t have the proper marketing or demand.” Aaron flushed. “I probably shouldn’t be telling you this.
“Probably not,” Lily said. “But that is really interesting!”
“Wine output is determined by how many hectares of grapes you have planted. And of course, everything depends on soil salinity and the weather. We have cooler weather here in Jorvik. That all effects the taste of the wine. And if your wine doesn’t taste good and pass certain standards, you can’t price it higher. We aren’t as fussy as France,” Aaron sniffed. “But we still have standards.”
Lily grinned around a spoonful of ice cream.
The decorator literally flounced up to the table. “I hope you haven’t started talking about anything juicy without me!” He struck a pose.
“Just about wine profits,” Lily said.
“Well, say no more until I have ice cream,” the decorator sat and ordered from one of the servers. She returned quickly with his bowl of ice cream and left them.
“All right, darlings, explain everything about this wine and ice cream bar?”
Lily raised a brow at Aaron.
He floundered.
Lily decided it was probably better if she took over. “The wine cave has a room that is meant to be a tasting room,” she said. “I haven’t been in it.” Her brow furrowed and she picked up the phone and sent a text. She set the phone down. “Sir Silverglade knows a lot about ice cream and the concept is to pair ice cream dishes with wine to attract tourists with something a little different? Sir Silverglade was telling me about how our cooler weather makes the wine taste different than if we had warmer weather.”
The decorator tilted his head. “Is it even possible to pair wine and ice cream without it ending badly?”
“Small cups! Small!” Lily widened her eyes.
The decorator grinned. “The whole point of a wine tour is to get gloriously drunk and buy lots of wine you don’t need.”
Lily sighed.
Her phone buzzed. She picked it up, checked the messages and passed it to the decorator. “The tasting room.”
“Another very empty box,” the decorator sniffed. “How distressing.”
Lily rolled her eyes. “If you remember, the outside of the wine cave looks like the Parthenon or another long rectangular greek temple.”
“It’s based on the Valley of the Temples in Sicily,” Aaron said stiffly.
Lily gestured. See?
“Romantic get away for a Silverglade ancestor, I’m assuming. Sounds like a story,” the decorator smirked.
Aaron mumbled something and fiddled with his shirt sleeves.
“Continue please, a big empty room is a blank canvas, I want to hear more about your ideas.” The decorator passed the phone back to Lily.
Aaron cleared his throat. “Outside of France, many wineries maximize their profits by having different types of grapes and they grow these grapes in different areas of their property called cotes that has the best weather suited for them and we have to be very particular about soil salinity. Our Pinot Noir grapes are in the area of the winery that has the best weather due to their rather finicky and delicate nature. All of the vines at the Silverglade winery are different types of red grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Melbec, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Syrah.”
“Is there a reason for that?” The decorator asked. “I know that Riesling is a very popular wine to have with local foods. That is if anyone ever recommends a wine at all. But Riesling is a German white grape.”
Aaron shrugged. “I don’t know. Those are the varietals we have. We also have a Rose blended wine and a Red blend fortified wine in the style of Port for sale. We use the skin contact method to make the wine pink and take the skins out before the wine becomes deep red. It’s traditional.”
Lily bit the inside of her cheek. The Silverglades could be so stuffy.
“But the good thing about red wine is that it pairs well with our local fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, and lingonberries. You can even pair it with apples and cheese,” Aaron brightened. “For white wine, you pair it with things like peaches, orange, and melons. We don’t have those around Silverglade so, it’s all fortuitous you see.”
“Or Fruituitous,” Lily wrinkled her nose.
Aaron grimaced at the pun.
The decorator laughed. “I like you, darling,” he waved a spoon at her.
“So my ideas for ice cream feature the local produce and of course we want to use local cream products and import chocolate, everyone loves chocolate.” Aaron fiddled with his utensils. “I have a list of items. I just can’t narrow it down.”
“Why bother narrowing it down?” Lily furrowed her brow. “I think it is more important that they taste good and pair well with the wines at the winery.”
“Yes, you must have a taste test,” the decorator nodded emphatically.
“I think they go well.”
“We trust your judgement,” Lily said quickly. “Having a tasting will provide publicity for the ice cream bar and let you gauge feedback on what the people will like.”
The decorator nodded. “She’s right. Publicity is, well, queen, in this case.”
“I mean, as long as you aren’t doing anything to outre like rose or violet or lavender ice cream,” Lily said.
“We could,” Aaron murmured. “Rose and cardamom go together and you know how much mother loves cardamom. And cardamom and lingonberries go well with red wine. In some recipes you can substitute rose water for red wine.”
Lily felt the need to point out. “You denude Agnetha’s rose bushes she’ll come after you with her chainsaw no matter if you’re the son of the Baroness or not.”
The decorator burst into laughter.
Aaron pursed his lips. “Agnetha is scary. They’re old friends you know, her and my mother. Went to university together.”
“Oh good grief,” Lily groaned. “That explains so much.”
“And Lavender goes with rose wine,” Aaron added.
Lily sighed. “Yes, but they also scream snobby.”
The decorator snorted.
“Wine making is snobby,” Aaron retorted.
“Okay, make them a special at some point.” Lily waved her hand.
Aaron tried to retain what very little dignity he had. “Most of my ideas are things that people will like, vanilla and berries, chocolate and nuts, strawberry cheesecake, sea salt caramel, that sort of thing.”
“Those all sound delicious,” Lily said.
“And something with cardamom for my mother,” Aaron continued stiffly. He slumped again. “I don’t know what to call it or what I want things to look like.”
“This tasting room at least isn’t in a drafty old cellar, even if the walls look like it,” the decorator sniffed.
“Aren’t wine cellars rooms nobles actually have?” Lily tilted her head. “I mean, does the manor have one.”
“Yes, the manor has a wine cellar,” Aaron nodded. “Mother keeps all the special bottles there.”
“Then, why not call it the Wine Cellar and keep it simple, like the restaurant was simple. I mean, no one is going to care that it’s not really in a cellar. Or they shouldn’t.”
“Since the cellar of the wine cave is filled with kegs and kegs of aging wine,” Aaron murmured.
“If we call it the Wine Cellar people are going to expect grapes as décor,” the decorator sniffed.
“I don’t see why we can’t do a bit of that.”
“And too keep the walls rough.”
“Also doable,” Lily said. She raised a finger. “Wait, why not face them with marble slabs. That way they can look “rough” and be fancy at the same time.”
“We don’t want it to have the same exact look at the Silver Glade, but the two should say they belong in the same place, did you just say marble slabs,” the decorator raised a brow.
Lily shrugged. “It’s an idea.”
“It’s going to be cold.”
“It’s summer,” Lily reminded him.
Aaron ducked his head and smiled.
“Let me see what other ice cream parlors are doing,” the decorator picked up his phone. “You never know what you can use for ideas.”
He scrolled. “All right, modern and elegant but with old world flair. I’m seeing two that have ideas that could work. This ice cream parlor in Prague that turns into a bar during the evening, and this other one in Palma, Spain. I’m thinking more the floor and the fact they have the greenery on the ceiling.” He turned the phone around so Aaron could look at the pictures.
“I like the lamps in Prague, they remind me of the lamps Agnetha is putting in,” Aaron said.
Lily craned her head forward trying to see.
Aaron turned the phone around.
“Oh, the one in Prague is very clean. Both have the exposed lighting. But the walls in Prague remind me more of the walls in the restaurant, like they’re clean despite not having the French Paneling.”
“An ice cream parlor and wine bar doesn’t really need French Paneling.” The decorator sniffed. “And the humidity would ruin it.”
“Could we make chairs out of old barrels?” Lily asked.
“Why do you even need me?” The Decorator asked.
“Because you can tell us if our ideas are good or bad,” Lily smirked at him.
The decorator sighed. “That is the sort of old world kitsch that it probably does need. We can use the same type of lamps or similar as to the restaurant and the rest of the winery.”
“We have hanging flower baskets already and urns of flowers,” Lily pointed out.
The decorator looked at the pictures again. “I know this building looks two and a half stories high with the pitch of the roof. All the lighting will have to be brought in it looks like. Let’s give the walls a good polishing. I know a contractor. We’ll install a marble floor with several coats of protection. Everything will have to be hand built. Maybe we can use barrel staves on the front of the bar.”
“We may not be able to use ivy or roses, aren’t those sunny plants. Agnetha talks and talks,” Lily bit her lip. She set her spoon down, ice cream done. “I can’t remember all of it.”
“I was thinking that we could take a nod from Prague and do the logo in lights, whatever it ends up being.”
“We’ll get a marketing team on it,” Aaron said. “I know Anastasia has one for the restaurant. I’ll tack my requests onto hers.”
“Excellent plan,” the decorator smirked. “I’ll get some drawings for these barrel chairs and use the same roman style idea we’ve been using and that should take care of the ‘wine cellar’ vibe we’re going for.”
Lily nodded rapidly.
Aaron looked faint with relief. He sipped his coffee.
“And use Agnetha’s artist for lights,” the decorator sighed. “She has to be charging through the nose to get it done as quickly as she is.”
“Would you say no to Agnetha or Baroness Silverglade?” Lily said.
Aaron smiled again behind his mug.
“No, not at all,” the decorator admitted. “Hmm, doesn’t she have that arch thing near the Riding Arena.”
“Yep,” Lily said. She produced a picture.
“Yes, exactly, we’ll create something to set off the bar area from the lounging area with that type of theme, though you know, one story instead of whatever that is,” he rolled his eyes. “I know, because I’ve been to France, that the top of that arch has square tile motifs. We can use grapes there, probably in a circle with roses in the corners. Then horses on each side of the arch on the walls.”
Lily nodded rapidly.
“That way we won’t have to change the base of the lamps that she already has a mold for and we won’t get bitched at.”
Lily giggled.
“And we can wrap them in something that likes to climb and is shade loving to help bring in more greenery. There, I think I have a plan. Hanging globe lights from the ceiling with more hanging plants. Put shade loving plants in the urns.” The decorator clapped their hands together. They finished their ice cream. “I’ll go get on making a picture for you to approve.” He stood up. “Excellent meeting you again, Ms. Lily. I’ll be in touch, Sir Silverglade.” He smiled and sauntered off shoes clicking on the tiles.
Lily stared at Aaron.
Aaron sipped his coffee. “He seems very good at his job.”
Lily bit her lip.
“Thank you, for, for all this, you do know just what to say.”
“Sir Aaron, we want this to succeed just as much as you do and, well, ice cream.” Lily widened her eyes. “Now, don’t forget to put up a JarlList to get some employees.”
“Of course, and I am going to call Anastasia and tell her I liked that outfit Franzeska came up with that had the blouse with the contrasting collar and cuffs. It was very professional looking.”
“Yeah, I’ll leave you to it,” Lily breathed. She got up. She wanted no part of the fight over what place was going to have what outfit. She retreated across the street and grabbed the trolley as it headed by to take her to the bus station.
At least, the crisis seemed to be averted.
Lily debated on the way back to Fort Pinta if she should pop her head in and tell Baroness Silverglade to remind her children she loved them a bit more often.
Lily shuddered.
No, probably not a good idea.
FOR THE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE MY WATERMARK AND CONTACT INFORMATION. THANK YOU. I get it. Some of you might get excited and want to see this stuff in the game, especially the clothes, tack, and pets. However, the only way I want to see this in the game is if I get paid for it. If I see it in the game and I’m not paid for it, there will be hell to pay. You think I’m salty. I’d be angry. Personally, I’m not going to send this info to SSO. If you do, leave my contact information there! Don’t give them any excuses to steal.
Now, I’ll know you haven’t read this note if you leave me comments about how ‘salty’ I am about the game and if I hate it so much I should do something else. I am doing something else. It’s called Mystic Riders MMORPG Project. Mystic Riders however is a very baby phase game. You can check out our plans on the game dev blog. (Skills, Factions, Professions, Crafting, Mini-Games, 25+ horse breeds!) If you know anyone who would be interested and has money or contacts about game making, direct them to the blog.

Cringing at my own videos
Training Videos Edition!
I got bored, needed motivation to start editing, went back to take a look at my older videos, and now I judge and cringe at them because that’s a given at this stage
Under the cut to keep your dash shorter :3
Determined Horse Training, the title I came up with to be a little unique. I obviously couldn’t use something akin to Northena’s “Training Is Fun...Right?” and I wanted to give it a proper title knowing this would be a series of videos. I thought, and thought, and came up with the title after thinking of Undertale and how you are filled with determination in the game. “I am filled with determination to train these horses!” is what I thought and so the title of the series became that!
I use // as a way to separate different topics I’m talking about
Brave Rebel- First off...the thumbnail. He was originally themed sort of after Nathan Drake from Uncharted, since I was into that series at the time. So the map was, you know, for the treasure hunting. But I didn’t want to stretch the map to fit and somehow decided that a brown background was a good idea?? // AH THE CLOTHES! THE NECK!! AHHH GATORADE OCEAN BLEHH. // Oh yeah I have a spelling error in the video “Let’s go defeat this traning day!”. // Been training with Sage from the start of the series. I wonder how many fails of their’s I’ve caught XD // Ah the rocks, the rocks that I caught Sage stumbling out of in a later training video. // Let’s not forget the double mouse thing going on that makes its appearance in many videos before I figured out to click off of the web pages (which had a music playlist going while training). // Omg there’s someone with the club name The Babies standing nearby when I turn in the final race. // Low-key still love this horse. He was my first true Soul Steed before we were designated to our starter. I don’t take him out much, the difference in horse animations from new to old is getting bigger and for dynamic photos, it just doesn’t look good ( @~@)
Cool Hero- The horse based off of Markiplier back when he had red hair. I also uploaded the video on his birthday! // The song choice....I mean it fits the theme, otherwise I’d pick a better song. // The mini references I’m still low-key proud of. // There’s quite the amount of gliding pons in this video and some horror texture pons. // I obviously had to max Markimoo at the observatory! // I also mimicked Mark’s outros where an image is boomeranging. It took a couple tries with my friend in the background, but it was worth it!
Violet Mystery- I hope when I introduced her as “The winner of the Jorvik Wild horse competition” I mean, she was the first coat to be picked. Back when it was only one horse coat is being made. They added the top two coats afterwards. // Oh yeah the character’s whole head would move to the side to keep eye contact with the camera. // It’s so weird to think that I caught a bit of footage of Swifty just before meeting her. Then again I remember NOT editing this training video until months later and uploaded it in September. Mind you that I got Cool Hero and Violet Mystery at the same time and Cool Hero’s video was out in June...oops. // Ironic that I have the pandoric cracks around when the horse is based off them. // People running up from the riding arena, ah the fog glitch that would happen when you left your horse in the riding area, ran all the way to the dino valley elevator, took it, and there was no fog in the valley!
Megalove- Ah the first Undertale horse! I mean technically still the only Undertale themed horse I have, but I do have others planned. Haven’t gotten them yet and some plans changed. // The thumbnail....why did I make the stickers super tiny?? // Finally changed Elsa’s hairstyle to the ponytail I still wear to this day. We need updated ponytails with side bangs! I know we have the awesome braided ponytail in Mistfall, but there’s too much forehead! // Also the first training footage with the meet up....was 4 hours long. This was back when I recorded all stages of training and went through the footage in real time....I’m glad I changed strategy. // Can’t remember if crashing into a jump and the jump of the music timed at the same point was on purpose or if it was editing magic. // Oof cringing that I put comic sans as Sans “talking” in the video nnngghhhhh! // Ah my old club name Royal Ambassadors. I gave that club over to my side account Chiara Monsterhope for obvious reasons. // Annoying Dog in the credits, I still love that
Lucky Hero- I’m still proud that I came up with his nickname Vien short of Vienna where the famous riding school is. He, along with Brave Rebel, are my top horses. Please get an update eventually boys! // Finally Mac users had clear water! I was so happy over this you do not understand XD // Warriors by Imagine Dragons fits this horse, but quite a pain when I got Dark Warrior and didn’t want repeating songs. // Oh yeah early on, the Lipizzaners had a weird reflective tail glitch going on. // Vien was the first horse of mine that I got the day of release, bright and early in the morning! // I love how in the face of danger, an approaching bull dozer, I just stare at it. It wasn’t even a “oh no I should get out of the way” and instead was “huh that’s a thing”. // ALLY CHUM! I forgot that was a nickname to good friend!
Grey Ghost- OH BOY HERE WE GO!! Honestly my favorite training video. It was so much fun to edit with the music and the Halloween stickers hidden around the screen! Despite waking up at 5am to train for that aesthetic™. // Okay but that mushroom with the dark green sign did legit give me a spook. My body froze for a second and then I remembered that Slenderman doesn’t exist in Star Stable XD. // Ngl two of the stickers are hard to see cause of their surroundings. // GALLOPER THOMPSON MY MAN! Honestly I waited till midnight for him to be in Goldenleaf forest, just to see what would happen if you were racing and he caught you. By the gods of editing magic, the song was at a good point that fits perfectly with that scene. // For the scarecrow race I did actually take two different takes. I failed the first one and when I was editing I noticed that the two runs looked similar. So I put the first part of run 1 and cut before I failed and then put the remaining of the race with run 2. Looks almost seamless!
Silent Promise- My favorite mare in my stable! She ends up being my AoT cosplay photo horse...until I get the actual themed horse XP. // Shadows were a little glitchy at first. // Why am I using Rud instead of Rude. Like I know why cause that’s how we got around the filter, but I didn’t need to put it like that in the video. It’s like back in my WolfQuest days where I learned to use Cuz as a short version of Cause and it bled into my text vocab. // The witch bombs...I wanted to make it dramatic, but in hindsight it’s just tasteless really. Also to note that the sound which was fine before uploading, got more rough once it was on YouTube
Small Potential- Real cringe theme here, Hetalia. It was fun while watching and all that, but since then I’ve seen some well done anime! Growth! // I love the nickname Finny. Not too sure if I want to keep this pony or not, sadly. // The Christmas remix song is because I had no other ideas XD
Brave Eagle- Oh this is another slight cringe theme. Even more cringe is the fact that I had to re-upload this training video since it got blocked all over the world! due to the Hamilton musical songs. So I....had to layer over the songs with other songs....it’s a whole mess and was a whole pain since I had to re-edit the sound effects. // I’m proud of the thumbnail though....that’s it
Winter Dust- Why did I make the “there’s a new app with these foals you can train” with the dramatic music? // I think because I had less levels to train, I tried filling that space with “cool looking shots”. // Ah, yes, my How To Get Over A Jump wikipedia step by step
Hollow Phantom- Had to bring a creepy vibe even though it was February. So he’s like a Halloween not Halloween horse. // Can you believe that I found the main song from a Haikyuu!! crack video? XD. // That zoom on the pony surrounded by magic shires was weird. We’re saying “SO TINY” but the clip was so short it was done and over without much sense. // Mmm that slight irritation that the music and clip didn’t match with the drop. // Tried to blend the music together with itself....it’s obvious. // Of course had to max the Galloper horse where I first met the phantom himself
North Guardian- I wanna talk about the thumbnail....that background...is literally just the horse’s hindquarters. I wanted something mossy since the horse is sort of based off of Pelagia from Shadow of the Colossus. I couldn’t find good enough backgrounds, so I used the horse itself. // Again that urge to want to make the clip and music match but ahhh
Lucky Lucky- Still wish I could name this horse Gold Luck or something. // I think one of the camera turns during a race was just to show off the rainbow nearby. // Ahh! back when we could say “demon” in the chat. // Hmm instead of letting the clip run, I could’ve just cut to Reed calling the askew fence “a disgrace”. // Text was onscreen for just too long. // Trying to do the riding arena jumps with a good camera angle. But at that point, the camera kept moving and wouldn’t hold still. I’m glad it’s better now. Maybe I’ll try it again with a future horse. // Huh, forgot to add sound effects when I hit something on the last race
Silent Surprise- Cause I had to let the people know that I bought the horse after watching the Belmont. // AH STILL THE NECK! // 2 minutes in and we haven’t even gotten to the actual training yet. // Another day, another SSO glitch, this time it’s shadow rocks. // Oop missed a sound effect
Hot Spot- THE MUSTACHE! // I forgot I put a filter over the video to give it an old timey look. I should do more like that if it’s in theme. // Of course I had to have The Wanted be playing with this song since it’s old west sounding. // What was the purpose of editing the scarecrow race like that? XD. // Random running clip. // Walking the whole bobcat race would be nice if I didn’t keep moving the camera
Pumpkin Candy- As much as I love my Halloween horses, this training video isn’t up to the standards that the first Halloween training video set up. It’s still got Halloween themed music, it’s still got stickers hidden in the video, but it doesn’t feel the same. // Having text be their default instead of making them the same agh. // The spooky filter I overlayed the clips with changes at times. Would be nice if it stayed consistent
Dragon Dawn- Hmm now that I have more songs to choose from (getting into another artist as much as I did with The Wanted), I would have another song playing to fit the horse better. Maybe Euphoria or Mikrokosmos. Oh well those will be for future horses eventually! // Didn’t drop with the music...disappointed
Thunder Spirit- The horse that trains through three months. You can easily tell by the Valentine race, the rainbows of March, and April Fools. // Man I really need to work on making the text not be so BIG. // The first rainbow race had lots of sound effects. After that one I was just like “yeah not doing that again”
Sun Chaser- Eh the slowed down music is not the best idea. But I think it was also an intro to a remix of the song. So it was only so long and I had a bit to say for the intro of the horse. // The second clip of the mysterious Icelandic cryptid you can’t see them once it zooms in....annoying. // Too much of a slow build up with another cryptid spotting. // Also using the same sound but slower after just using it...smooth (not). // You know the very last clip of the horse as he’s turning around on the beach? Yeah that’s the exact moment I did the intro for the horse XD
Dragon Warrior- The contrast between me and Sage’s bantering vs the sadder song (I found the song because of a Zeno AMV) well it’s kinda weird having laughs and then sad melody. // YouTube again ruins the quality of the mic as it sounds fuzzier than it was pre-uploaded. // Low-key recording voices was fun aside from having to make sure the clips matched the voices and clicking of the mouse. // I’m still annoyed I couldn’t find the perfect snoring sound effect when Sage’s Connemara is sleeping and starts gliding away
Smoke Mirror- A little too much of a pause between text in the intro. // I love how I’m wearing a Halloween shirt because no other shirt matched with the blue of the hat except for the dress it came with THAT I GOT RID OF!
Obsidian Mystery- I love the thumbnail for her training video. It’s so spooky and cool! Favorite thumbnail of the entire series right there. // Ironic that with the three Halloween horses I’ve had. The two with the upbeat music are the ones where Galloper was present that year. The one where Galloper was missing that October, the music was softer, generic Halloween music. Not intentional, but it works. Though the first Halloween training video still gets the trick-or-treats because it has nostalgic music. // Some text isn’t easily visible
Dark Warrior- The horse I wish I could name Secret Warrior cause that would make SO MUCH MORE SENSE than Dark Warrior, but here we are. // Since Warriors by Imagine Dragons was in a previous training video, I had to search for another song to fit the horse. I literally went through those anime character theme song videos to find one! That was a terrible jump cut of the song
Ember Flame- Coming Soon

Okay, so random little ideas I got after today’s story quests.
SPOILERS AHEAD !!
What if we were called by our last name once in a while. For instance, at the end of the race that Sabine gives us, “ End of the line, L/N “ would be used. (Ex. “End of the line, Windpeak.) I feel that if they know so much about us, they should know the player’s last name- considering they know the last names of the other soul riders. I don’t recall them using this before, so I’m sorry if I’m wrong.
What if the dark riders’ horses were a lot more than we imagined? This is mostly AU based I suppose, and clashes with a bit of the story, but I felt as if it was a really neat and I needed to bring it to the table here. I also assume that the SSO team didn’t do this because they try to keep the game fairly PG. I emphasize try, lmao.
It is explained that Pi uses a spell to turn regular horses into dark horses, and once dark horses are made, they can’t be turned back. (Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while since I did the quests) This implies that the horses have gone through something quite major.
What if the horses aren’t even horses anymore? Maybe the souls of the horses are kept, and the body is left behind. Perhaps the dark horses are a robotic shell that is fused with magic to look, feel, sound, and seem like a horse. In the recent Sabine race through Dino Valley, Khaan’s neigh does sound quite different from the rest (Though it is probably because when he neighs, you are sort of ‘ out of it ‘)
As the horses grow old, they gain rust and damage, left go to a junkyard, or maybe a river. They are left to roam free, the robotic sense being freed from them, they become a wandering soul until their days end. Possibly leading to kelpies and whatnot.
It’s a bit of a dark idea, but I feel like it might work given the industrial feeling of Dark Core, and the factory we find in SSL 1.
Alright I’m done rambling jsbvdhjasvhagjkhajgs bye

7 Facts About Izzy + 1 About her Soul Steed
@daine-s-adventures tagged me to do this 8 facts about thing that I know nothing about beyond what was posted, so random 8 facts about my SSO character, here we come! Well, 7. And the last one relates more to Copper because I couldn’t think of another one for Izzy.
1. She was raised by her single father and paternal grandparents.
I know I’ve mentioned her father before in the majority of things I’ve written regarding her history because they were very close, but to restate and elaborate, Izzy was raised by her father and her grandparents, on his side of the family, and they all lived on a ranch in SW Florida where they raised, bred, and trained mostly American Quarters and Paints. Her father is a rider and trainer of some renown that has traveled the country to show at the national level and to do clinics on the family’s way of working with horses. Her mother’s relationship with her father was relatively short-lived; she liked him and he liked her, but, ultimately, their passions were just too different, so she moved on, and wasn’t quite prepared to be a mother. Thus, the tight-as-glue relationship between her and her father, Remy, was born. She writes regular letters home to him to keep him posted on her Jorvegian adventures, though they’re grown a bit more few and far between in pressing times, and she’s done her best to shield him from the reality of the events she has found herself in... Though it’s getting harder to pretend like she’s just been leading a normal, horse-oriented life considering so many of her adventures are of the more magical and mysterious type.
2. She wears her heart on her sleeve, but romance is a bit complicated to her.
Maybe it sounds a little cliche or dramatic to say just about everything changed when Izzy moved to Jorvik to experience the island’s connection and way with horses, and possibly to attend the riding academy, but it pretty much did. Magical adventures aside, she also wound up with feelings for one particular circus master. And Izzy’s the kind of person that wears her heart on her sleeve and looks for the best in people, especially people she cares about. And he was charming and she ended up spending a lot of time around him after initially helping set up his circus. Some of it struck her as odd, but she was also being pulled into the middle of a centuries old battle between good and evil, so a lot seemed odd. Maybe part of her problem now is that she’s never exactly been in a relationship, so, for a while, she wasn’t sure how to or if she even wanted to label her relationship with Ydris. And now she’s torn between what everyone else is calling the inevitable (insert, curse your inevitable but hurtful betrayal meme here) and a deep sympathy for someone who’s cause is just, even if his methods are far from what everyone would prefer. For someone in their first relationship, she certainly had to go and fall in love with a right complicated bastard, didn’t she? Oops. >.>
3. She probably gets along best with Linda.
I imagine Linda as perhaps the most understanding and in-tune with Izzy’s position and feelings about things of the three Soul Riders we currently have met. Lisa’s anger over Anne stung more than Izzy would like to admit, and she doesn’t quite feel her to be completely approachable for it. Alex, on the other hand, is approachable and amicable as well, but Linda and Izzy share a passion and fascination for reading and learning about their adventures and the island. Meteor’s also pretty humorous, too.
4. The Druids, on the other hand? O o f. Except Evergray.
The longer she has been on Jorvik, the more her faith in trusting the Druids has been tested. She’s seen her fellow Soul Riders struggle with it, too, and, considering everything, she’s not sure she likes how little they tell sometimes. While she’s not quite sure how her feelings are working out about Ydris, his point of view certainly didn’t help her trust, and Evergray’s been to Pandoria, too. She sees him as far more open-minded about things and trusts his judgement, whereas she’s feeling more and more that the Druids are maybe a bit too stuck in their ways. She’s experienced frustration with the figuratively closed doors in her face, the lack of answer, and still being treated like she doesn’t know enough. But the problem is she doesn’t, and no one is helping her with that on this side.
But her and Evergray clicked quickly. He’s perhaps the only one with a solid relation to the Druids that she really trusts. And he’d be a damn cool uncle to have, no lie. Uncle Everett can visit her anytime.
5. She wants needs to save Pandoria.
Circling back to her deep sympathy and bleeding heart, Ydris’s story has given her an undying need to find a way to save both Jorvik and Pandoria, and that plays a role in how frustrated she is now with the Druids. To her, there has to be a way, if only the Druids would look past the narrow thought that Pandoria is dangerous and something to be feared. Fear clouds judgement, and she happens to believe now more than ever that the Druids suffer from a decent amount of skewed judgement. She can’t quite understand why she feels so strongly about it internally - the idea that they might not be able to do both even brings up some anger and rage for the unjustice of it, but some pieces of the “goddess reincarnate” puzzle may or may not be clicking into place somewhere in her mind’s subconscious.
6. I don’t necessarily think she’ll have Pandoric scars. But “tattoos.”
But she will have something. Since it’s highly likely, and basically all but confirmed in my head, that she’s the reincarnation of Aideen, I think that power will override the effects of Pandoria on an otherwise human body. But I think it would be cool if, when she tapped into her full potential and powers, she had something like the Will Tattoos form like in the Fable franchise, only in runic designs and Pandoric pink in color. In Fable, they’re basically glowing, scar-like features that glow and appear stronger the more you use Will (which is the magic in the game) and they look like this (x) (the blue glowy stuff). They fade over time if you use less Will, and can eventually disappear, but I think in Izzy’s case, they’d remain as faint lines, almost like scars, but more “tattoo”-esque in nature. I’ve felt for a long time that Goddess!Izzy fully awakened would be massively pissed that her beautiful island and horses are under such great threat, that her Soul Riders have been so thoroughly tested and battle-worn, that Pandoria is suffering... And she’d totally fucking wear pink war paint and you can’t change my mind.
7. On that note, she is capable of Soul Rider powers, but also more Pandoric-style magic.
She can use healing abilities of the Star Circle, foresee things like the Moon Circle, travel to and survive Pandoria in a way akin to powers of the Sun Circle, and use offensive attacks like those of the Lightning Circle, but I also imagine her maybe more as a traditional spell slinger, without the need for incantation or wand or rune stick - capable of the more unknown Pandorian magic style that I’m pretty sure at this point fuels a lot of the power and magic of Jorvik. But, since I’m starting to see Aideen as maybe one of these mysterious Pandoric figures like Fripp and Ydris, she can naturally tap into this potential, if any of that makes any sense? xD
She can kick ass and take names at the height of her power, is basically what you need to know. But, of course, since the Druids have been so damn tight-lipped, she’s got a ways to go before she’s understood and realized all of this potential hiding away in her.
8. SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE NIGHTDUST STORYLINE. But Copperflame doesn’t change colors, necessarily, like a Jorvik Wild Horse...
Or Nightdust. While my first reaction to Nightdust’s new look post the quests, I think what I’d really imagine for Copper is “Will Tattoos” for him, too, mimicking the kind of runic designs on the statues in Guardian’s Dale, and a sort of glowing aura like Concorde has in SSL 3, with a Pandoric pink glow to his eyes, his wings, and maybe glowing hooves. Maybe this is simply because I have no idea what color he should change into if they did something like Nightdust’s coat because even though gold is what we traditionally associate with Aideen, I don’t think Copper should be gold. But, I mean, I’m also imagining him rn as a big, fluffy painted draft cross, soooo... I would be happy with some glowing eyes and updated, more permanent/usable wings. xD @SSO, pls let me have a draft build for my starter pon? Can you imagine how cool? How more customizable it would be if we could choose a build type for our starter on top of more customization of their coats? Skreeee???
It’d require a lot of work, obvs, that whole ordeal, but it’d make for some really snazzy cutscene moments and cool game play akin to the excitement of rescuing Justin and figuring out we could fly. Just sayin’.

this is kind of an odd idea but i think itd be cool if there was some kind of. horse rental market where you could list your horses
other players could pay a small sc fee to “rent” your horse + be able to ride it around and race with it to give it horse xp for say 1 or 2 days before its automatically returned to your paddock (maybe thered be a timer thatd show up in the corner counting down how much longer they had left with that horse while they were riding it). over that time span they cant rename or sell the horse or anything that gives someone else potential to mess up your horses if you rent them out. regarding tack, maybe the person renting the horse cant remove / add to / otherwise interact with the gear the horse is already wearing (itll all be locked in and grayed out on the horse page).
if you were the person who listed the horse you wouldnt earn anything from someone renting your horse, but it wouldnt cost anything to you to list the horse in the rental market, so it serves as a chance that maybe someone else will help you train your horse for free, and also just a neat thing if you want to give other people the opportunity to try out a horse of yours. (thisd be especially effective passive method for people who have a ton of horses just sitting around in their stable that they dont regularly get the chance to train or really do anything with - you can send them away for a short time and they might come back a little more experienced)
functionally itd work twofold as both an alternate albeit not guaranteed effective way of training, and as a way for other players to try out horses they might not already have. sso’s traditionally stingy about sc and generally avoids implementing ways for people to get stuff done without sc if theres already a way to get it with sc in game to avoid any losses there, but i think the sc put into renting horses could make up for the loss of sc potentially spent on training with in game horse trainer npcs (although i dont think it should be nearly as costly to rent a horse as it is to level a horse up in the highest levels with a trainer). itll probably be up to the renter to pay because 1) if they want a horse for something one-off, ex a recording, it’s much cheaper than just buying the whole horse and is effectively a way of avoiding getting a whole horse that would otherwise use a lot more sc and 2) theres no guarantee that the horse is going to level up or even get any experience over their time with the other player, so itd be unfair and probably detrimental to the supply of rental horses if you forced the renters to pay to list even if they wouldnt necessarily get anything in return. there would still be incentive for people to buy actual horses - they could keep them forever and name them and decorate them as they pleased - but this could be good for a more temporary thing, or for people who wanted to try out a new horse, or help train.

A little critique of the soul riding
Soul riding trials is a type of reputation/ grinding quest which were added this year in march and where you have to train and work for Rhiannon in order to learn soul riding and ear few gifts, from tack to stories and at the very end your very own rune runner horse.
Sounds exciting right ? Well not that much in fact.
1/ Gameplay
You have few different trials, from “knowledge” ( haha. Seriously SSO, it’s even more simple than the old druid questions from an old reputation quest we used to have here as well. ) to dodging, and simply running after something which tried to dodge you. So basically you learned how to know something about someone and stalking it instead of really fighting it.
Basically it’s just grinding, grinding and still grinding more and more. It took you few months to obtain it. The main problem, which happens a lot in SSO is that you are limited by a certain amount of quests everyday, so if you can only log on day per week... It’s gotta be long before being done with it. That’s the thing they never really understood, it won’t keep people busy to do it like that, only bothering the ones who can’t log everyday.
2/ The stories behind
The “main” story here is the fact Alex and Linda are here and try to convince Rhiannon to trust you. (I’ll make a whole post about that later ) But there’s more with the books, with Rhiannon’s backstory, some druid archives, Evergray’s travel log and something about Dark Core.
Nothing really thrilling here, but it was a nice idea to make us collecting bits of the lore.
3/ The prizes
I won’t lie, the druid tack is nice and the stats too. Same for the clothing, which kinda reminds me the cross country tops. But the other prizes aren’t really good in my eyes.
And for the final reward, the one for, let’s be honest a bit, almost everyone did those dumb activities : the rune runner ? Time to say it: I’m disappointed even if the idea of offering a horse in reward of quests was really good.
- It’s a unique model, if you don’t like heavy horses you don’t have any other options, it’s heavy or nothing.
- You can’t have any choice about it: from the color to the mane/tail it’s all the same. Hello clones !
- If you sold it by mistake ( I know, you have to be the dumbest person ever to sell a horse by mistake as you need to agree to sell it ) you can’t obtain it again.
- It offers nothing special except the look and cold tolerance. For a unique model related to druids, we could expect something about magic but nope.
So it’s free but you understand why. The only choice you have is the name.
And finally here’s the point I really didn’t like, speaking of lore, the end, the graduation ceremony :
You spend MONTHS to build a very elusive link with your horse and basically Rhiannon told you that it’s time to receive a new one and do the same with him/her. In front of your horse who did the same stupid quests with ya, ended attacked by shadow monsters or having his/her legs burned by lightnings, had to jump over fire waves and gather dangerous draconium... It’s almost like a betrayal ? Like saying him “Ok buddy, now you did all of that just for me I’ll ride another one ‘cause ya know... He’s a druid horse and not you.”.
I’m sure it’s not what she wanted to say, but it sounds like that and I’m not sure to appreciate it. Plus my Cornelia wouldn’t be happy to receive a heavy horse as it’s not in her character, she only likes sport horses and sport ponies.
So that wasn’t bad nor good, it was a very good idea at the start but, like each damn time with them, poorly made at the end. You can do better SSO, I’m sure you can do way way way better. ( and yes, you who read that, I really think they are able to do better, if I didn’t think that, I wouldn’t even take the time to criticize them.)

Just a thing
SSO OC Asks
1. What is their home stable in-game? Why?
Mistfall, story wise it’s because the baroness (my character works for her) wanted to start up a vineyard in mistfall and sent my character to manage the day to day operations, but mostly it’s just because I like mistfall.
2. Where do they actually live in Jorvik?
They bought a farmhouse in mistfall after selling their place in silverglade
3. Who is their favorite NPC? (Obvs they wouldn’t be for our characters, but you know)
There are several, Rania, Avalon, Evergray, Ydris, the list goes on.
4. Who is their Soul Steed? What breed are they? Do they have any markings or look different in some way from the in-game appearance you could give them?
For now it’s the black Clydesdale, until they do Percherons. If they ever get around to Percherons its a Black mare with a small white blaze (My irl soulhorse) Mockingbird.
5. What is their favorite location? (Ex, Hollow Woods, Greendale, Silverglade Manor Library) Why?
Wooded areas in general, so mistfall and valedale mostly
6. Who’s their favorite horse? Why?
Assuming you mean npc horse it’s Meteor.
7. What are their powers? Are they stronger with one Circle over any of the others?
She’s not stronger in any circles, but her favorite is lightning. She gets, essentially, less powerful versions of the four soulriders powers. She heals faster and medicines she makes heal better but she can’t just heal with her hands, she gets premonitions rather then full visions, she can open portals in the right places and at the right times but it’s spotty at best, and finally she can electrify items if she’s holding them but she can’t shoot lightning from her hands.
8. What’s their usual style? Any favorite tack sets or color themes for them?
Western and dark brown/black for color
9. Thoughts about Jorvik City? How do they feel about Rania’s petition for a horse-friendly Jorvik City?
It’s big and noisy and crowded, she’s got anxiety so she hates going there. She thinks it may not be the best idea, considering all the cars and loud noises.
10. Thoughts about Justin? (I’m sorry, I’m curious, he shows up so much)
She likes him well enough, she feels bad about the part she played in his disappearance and turn to darkness. All she wants is to make it better but she doesn’t know how.
11. How do they feel about the magical horse race at the circus? Did they enjoy being a horse?
She likes it, but she’d rather be turned into a Hawk or a Lion
12. Do they trust the Druids? Or how do they feel about them?
She trusts specific druids, but not the organisation as a whole. She also thinks they take to long to decide things and that they are too cautious. Caution won’t win a war against the brazen.
13. Least favorite NPC?
Not including bad guys, uhh the bobcat girls probably?
14. How do they make their money?
She works for the Baroness makes wine, grows grapes. She gets a monthly paycheck for her work managing the Mistfall winery. She’s also looking to buy half the mistfall winery and become co-owner, since the Baroness doesn’t get down to the mistfall winery much it would work out much better that way.
15. How many horses do they own?
Quite a few, I’m not going to count.
16. How many pets do they have? What kind? What are their names?
None if you don’t include the horses.
17. How do they feel about the Soul Riders? Do they trust them? Feel like an outsider? Are they closer to some over the others?
She trusts the Souls Riders, loves them really. She’s finally starting to feel like she’s one of them. She’s pretty close with all of them considering she saved two of them, and has known Alex for a while now.
18. Do they believe something mystical, magical, or otherwise strange really exists in Dino Valley? How did they feel about the leaving of the Kallter and the roar/scream/screech in the Valley?
Yes, but she’s not sure what. That freeze ain’t natural. She’s really worried about the Kallter just leaving like that, but she’s got other stuff on her plate at the moment.
19. Thoughts about Jorvik Wild Horses?
She thinks they’re really cool, she feels like they and her are similar. Not of this world but not of Pandora either, caught in-between.
20. Do you think they are a Wild Whisperer? Or are they just bonded with their Soul Steed?
Wild Whisperer of course, since she’s good with the wild things, especially if those things have a learned distrust of humans.
21. What’s their favorite Jorvegian holiday or celebration?
The more Pagan/Nordic themed ones.
22. What do they think or feel about Pandoria? Have they or do they visit outside of the quests (using the rifts)? If they have or still do, why?
It’s neat cause it’s like somehow the opposite of earth. Like being in the ocean but with air instead of water. She doesn’t visit unless she has too cause it wouldn’t make sense story wise, but she’d love to visit more. She’s real curious about what the ocean life would be like. Maybe there would be trees and ferns and flowers in it, since the coral and sea animals are above the water.
23. How has their visit(s) to Pandoria affected them? Do they have scars? Has it affected any of their life views?
At first it doesn’t appear like they have, but she’s started to notice a slight glow coming from her old scars.
24. Would they ever consider working for Dark Core or believing their side?
No. Even if Dark Core was somehow trying to do something good she still hates what they’ve done to the earth and innocent people.
25. What or who is Garnok to them? A dark presence? A squid-like monster? A child with a ridiculously complicated jumping course (fuckin @’s Lizzy)?
Something unknowable. She wonders if it really cares about dark core, or if dark core really even knows what Garnok is themselves.
26. Do they ever go to the Disco? If they don’t, would they ever consider going? What would it take to make them go?
No, too many people, too loud.
27. Disco or Moorland Beach party?
Neither.
28. Are they interested in helping with archaeology or fishing?
Both, she enjoys both greatly because they don’t require too much contact with people. (I hate both because both suck at this very moment, make it fun sso!)
29. How do they feel about Igor, the waiter/manager of the Dino Valley cafe, and whom seemed interested in your horse for… “culinary reasons?”
She doesn’t trust him one bit. And he can stay far away from her horses. He can order her wine though, thats fine.
30. Do they like the perpetual winter of Dino Valley or the perpetual autumn/fall of Goldenhills Valley, or is it strange to them? Do they prefer one over the other, or neither?
She has mixed feelings about it. It’s not natural. But she enjoys visiting both when she feels like being in that season.

Can We Discuss A New Housing System?
Ok, so if you remember playing SSO around the launch of Jorvik City, you know we’ve been teased for a proper housing system for a while now. Some of you may still have some furniture (arguable) in your inventories and closets like myself. It’s also one of the most popular feature requests right now from players, as least in my polls. But what would an SSO housing system even look like? And how could it be blended into the existing story.
So, obviously, I have some ideas on that, and I going to try blending it into the story, because I think having a “home instance” house kinda situation could be a good way to deliver background story information (like retcons to characters and just passive character building). However, there are a lot of mechanics involved too, so I’ll strive to write about all parts of this equally. And also, this is a HUGE suggestion, but I figure I’d write it out in its fullest so I can get more feedback on the idea too.
I have, however, had some thoughts on the actual questline for this, so I’m going to dabble with writing those as well. They’ll be indented quotes to keep it clear. But I want to have the story itself lead, so I’ll start with quotes and expand after into the individual ideas as they show up. So here we go.
I imagine you’d get a general quest notification for this to start, just on your map. I’m going to put it at level 18 unlock, or after the service at Doyle’s Abbey. I think this makes a good late game initiative, and a project to work on while waiting on quests, since you do also have your current home stable as a temporary housing space.
Baroness: Player, I have a task for you of the utmost importance.
Quest Accept
Good! I expected nothing less from you. Now, to the matter at hand. I own a small piece of land that recently has...seen less use. Have you heard of Horse Island? It’s a lovely place. Originally it had been opened to help local stables in Jorvik keep their horses active during the off-seasons when many of our campers go home.
However, when talented craftsmen John started to move to Jorvik, many stableowners hired him to update their own barns. You may have as well. While I certainly appreciate his work with my stables here, I have to admit that his arrival was effectively the closure of Horse Island.
And that’s the problem. I can’t leave the island alone as is. There are a number of structures there and I would like to reopen it as a park. Or I have another offer for you.
Quest End.
Baroness: Would you like to hear my offer, Player?
Quest Accept
My family and I owe a great deal to you. You’ve been beyond helpful here at my vineyard and with my son’s stables, you’ve been...discrete about my ex-husband, and you brought my grandson home. Some might even consider these deeds exemplary. My title as a Baroness may be more formal than my ancestors, but I can recognize a hero of Jorvik when I see one.
It’s not an easy gift, but I would like to gift Horse Island to you. However, if you accept this gift, then there are some requirements you’ll have to meet to live there, much less your horses. Like I said, the island has been all but abandoned and will need some serious repairs before anyone can live there safely.
Quest End.
Baroness: Are you interested?
Quest Accept
Wonderful. Then the deed is yours. I have a ferry chartered for you and an associate to head to Horse Island to begin repairs. You’ll find them in New Hillcrest.
Quest End.
(Item Get: Island Deed)
Now, this doesn’t mean you’ve unlocked Horse Island as a home stable yet, but you do own it. This would unlock a first stage of the housing process, where it’s pretty much unusable outside of building it. Your current home stable would still be your home stable until it reaches “Stage Two” so to speak, but you have access to to Horse Island moving forward as a visitable and intractable map.
I’ve made up an NPC for this for fun, but they’re basically going to become your bookkeeper for the island, and the hub for updates, info boards, and quests on expanding it. Their name is Aiden (more or less a nod to Aideen and there’s good reason once we get into later stages), a fem-butch presenting young person who kinda doubles as an Isabelle for your island and a construction worker until you bring on John (if you want to). They have a Clydesdale (I like the dapple rose grey for them) named Amber.
Upon arriving in New Hillcrest:
Aiden: Oh, you must be Player. The Baroness told me you were coming. Me? I’m Aiden. I’ll be helping you get Horse Island back on its hooves.
Player 1: Nice to meet you. What do you know about Horse Island?
Player 2: Huh, you’re a little young for contractor.
Aiden: You won’t meet anyone who knows Horse Island better than me. It’s why the Baroness asked me to help. My parents used to work there, taking care of horses. Grew up on the island myself. I learned everything I know from them, plus a double major in college. If anyone can help you get this island back to a living condition, it’s me.
You ready to get going?
Quest Accept
Aiden: Good, let’s get a move on.
Quest End.
At this point, you actually reach the island. It’ll start with the original island design, a tropical/Hawaii style island (can we discuss Jorvik’s biodiversity later, actually), though this is ideally something that you’ll be able to change. If it doesn’t start with this design, I think it should be an optional biome as a reference for long term players from when Horse Island was around before.
At release of it, I’d think Horse Island should just be one island, but eventually I think adding additional smaller islands would be a good way to continue expanding the island and adding options to its development, while still keeping the theme of the overall island.
The main island has three parts: a small village kinda area with a broken down barn and buildings, three big paddocks, and a trail area. If this carries over functionality from the current home stable system, then this would be a great way to have private trail rides/races you could make, with each biome having a slightly different layout of the three main areas, but we haven’t gotten to that yet.
After you arrive, there’s a ferry point you can unlock that will rotate to South Hoof and New Hillcrest (really like the ferry system and I think it should be expanded), as well as a trailer/boat to transport back to Jorvik. On arrival, there’s not a lot you can do outside of explore, though it should be incredibly difficult since the island is incredibly damaged and hasn’t been maintained.
After arrival, Aiden will wait for you by the ferry to continue the quests.
Aiden: Aideen, the place has seen better days. Sad to see it like this. But, no time like the present. We’d better get to work. Well, Player, you’re in charge here. Want to scout out the damage?
Quest Accept
Aiden: Alright, follow me.
Aiden leads on a loop around the island to the major points. Following dialogue should be overlayed as you reach each location to keep the ride going.
Aiden: The beaches used to pretty open. There are other islands around here too. Maybe once we get things set up, I can look into some boats to visit other islands. Long ways off though.
Ah, this forest used to be so fun to ride through. I remember having friends over and building races through the woods together. Maybe we can get it cleaned up and open it again for you and your friends.
These paddocks need a lot of work. Don’t worry though. Once we can get them patched back up, they can hold, ten, twenty horses at a time. We can start small and build them out.
This place used to be filled with life. My parents and I used to live over there. Might be a good idea to get some cabins set up first. I’m fine camping until we do though. Supposing you’re fine headed back to mainland for some food.
With just you here, I don’t think we’d need a lot of shops. Same time, I’d like to see folks living here again. Maybe a few shops, open the place for tourists. That is, if you don’t mind people in your backyard.
That’s the biggest building on the island. I know it’s not mansion, but it should be a comfortable lodge once we finish with it. Nice place to hang your hat at least.
Last stop. This barn is going to need a lot of work. Come on, let’s clear out a stall for Amber and Player’s Horse.”
Quest End.
At this point, the farm opens up a lot of quests Rescue Ranch style, where you can pick up to-do’s from Aiden and then go do them like dailies. Some should be limited to make it feel like you’re making progress over a few days, but until you get to Stage Two of the island, I definitely think you should be able to grind through some smaller quests to make the island livable relatively easily.
I do also really like the idea of adding a Harvest Moon-esque gifting system for foods. I think this could be a good way to test a potential trading system while also delivering on more character development and a use for food. It’ll work on the same kind of system as Harvest Moon, where NPCs have favorite foods and hated foods, but it’ll mark in your journal as you go which is which. Giving Aiden food they like will reset daily tasks for the island as well as build your relationship with them. Eventually once the island is in a later stage, other NPCs can come visit and you can gift them foods too to get bonus dialogue and quests.
The first to-do you get is to go into the stable and clear out two stalls. Aiden will idle around the stable, but each time you interact with something in the stable, they’ll move to the next location and work on hammering walls or sweeping as you go until the to-do is done. Finishing this will also open a caring location on the island.
Aiden: That’s already better. Don’t have to sleep in the rain anymore. Now, there’s a lot to do, so let’s talk about a few of the more important projects.
Quest Accept
Well, to start we need to get some houses built. One for you, one for me. I don’t mind camping, but this is Jorvik. Weather can be all over the place. Next, we need to make a space for any other horses you want to have on the island. The barn should be our next goal. I think those are two good projects to start. Come talk to me and I’ll let you know what you can do to help.
Quest End.
This is Stage One of the island. It’s about building the most basic of necessities; your house, Aiden’s house, and the barn. I think dailies should add big chunks to the progress bars, but there should also be smaller to-dos to speed up the process if you want to grind through it. There’s already going to be a lot of money sink into this island, so Stage One to-dos are either clearing spaces, repairing walls, or gathering wood from the forest (this won’t clear it). There’s no shillings or SC required, though once you’re halfway through this stage, Aiden will let you know that they’ve gotten in touch with a suppler that you can order supplies from, much like the shop for building the bridge to the Harvest Counties, to speed up construction.
At the end of Stage One, you’ll get another quest from Aiden.
Aiden: Now this is starting to feel a little more settled. It’s definitely not the island I remember. Don’t think Horse Island fits it anymore. How about giving it a new name?
Quest Accept
Prompt: Name the island using a naming thing like club naming system. If you don’t want to name it, it’ll either stay as Horse Island or as your Player’s name’s Island (i.e. Amelie Eveningstorm’s Island).
Aiden: Hm? Island Name? Yeah, I think that’ll do. Alright Player, Island Name it is. I think it’s time you can call this place home.
Quest End.
After this, you’ll get a prompt offering for you to set your home stable at your island. Once you do, it becomes your home stable permanently and all other home stables become closed (this would be cool if the stables got a small redesign after for you, but that’s minute). This ends Stage One. The island is a functional home stable. You can go in your barn, which will reflect whatever home stable upgrades you had before hand and work like the home stable does now, though the invite a friend will temporarily disabled. On your island, Aiden will offer to upgrade your stable instead of John unless you hire him later.
So, by the end of Stage One, these are the features you have unlocked:
Caring station
New home stable
Supplies shop
Ferry to South Hoof and New Hill Crest
Trailer point
Ability to rename the island
Inn/hotel (Aiden’s house)
Your house (single room)
Barn customization
House customization
Like I said, this release would mean a lot of new features. I think at least with releasing it in stages, the first/second stages can be released, and then later stages can be released to continue expanding the island. However, no small part of those features should be customization. Stage One unlocks basic customization. We’re not to biome changing yet. Right now you can update the appearance of your barn on the outside, maybe some things on the inside, the exterior of your and Aiden’s house, and the inside of your house with basic furniture. I don’t think your house should ever be that big, maybe like three rooms total, or like start with the size of Herman’s interior, then Dr. Hayden’s interior, and then move up to a two story cabin with a big first floor and a smaller room upstairs. But we’re not there yet either, just the first basic house.
Starting Stage Two:
Aiden: Alright, we’ve got the basics all here, Player. Now we need to start on getting the rest of the island open. This is going to be a lot more work, and there are some permits that we’ll need to pick up, so you may want to pick up a day job while we’re at it. And dinner too. Ready to hear the damage?
Quest Accept
There are three big areas on the island. The village here needs to be restored. I’ll let you decide what buildings you want to put up, but I think opening a few shops and having some private classes eventually might be a good start from going in the black on running this place. Yeah, you’re going to need to pay me eventually to keep working you know. I’m kidding. I’ve got room and board. But why don’t we start with some shops here. Could get some tack sold for your horses, clothes with your name all over it, and food for the horses.
Next is the forest area. There are plenty of good trails in the area, we just need to get them opened up again. After that, I can build some jumps for you and we can set up courses to train the horses. Good idea to keep them active. I’m no professional like yourself, but I could probably lend a hand there. Or you can use the trails we make to ride with rides. Your call, after we finish.
Then there are the paddocks. We have a small one here in the village, but I’d like to have that for training. No, I want to fix up the bigger ones down the path a bit. Good place to let the horses have some time outside. Like I said, let’s start small and get all of the paddocks fixed up enough to have ten or so horses in there first, then we can talk about expanding them for more.
There are a few other odds and ends that could use some work. The beach could use some cleaning up. If you do, we can expand the docks for more tourists to come visit, or to come practice their riding here if you still want to do lessons. Need to hire someone for that. You’ll also be able to visit some of our island neighbors if you like. Might be a good change of pace, or you’ll get some inspirations.
Oh, and I have some ideas on how to expand your house. Let me know if you want to make it bigger.
Quest End.
At which point, Stage Two starts and all of these dailies and to-dos become options to start working on. Now, it should be important to say that I think the shilling limit should be removed because any projects moving forward need a “permit” to start. It’s basically a shilling sink to give more purpose to collecting them in game (still with Star Coin options, but definitely with shilling options too), though they would start low (1,000 shillings for the food stall as an example) and build up to higher prices based on the benefits. So things like the food stall and expanding the docks to make your island visitable will be relatively cheap, but things where you can make money, like from the training options and stores, will be a little more because you get a return on them. After you buy a permit, you’ll get dailies and to-dos to actually build it, ranging from a day to a week to build without buying extra supplies.
Now, let’s dive into some of these features. Shops I think should sell very basic tack and clothing, but I do think a basic icon system would be great where you can generate an icon (pick a background, foreground, and a symbol with your island name beneath it from a list of presets). Other players should be able to come to your island and buy these too, which is one of the ways you can make money back, as any part of the shillings, and even Star Coins, you make from people buying on your stores should come back to you. I think this balances out with how many players there are playing SSO, but it could always use fine-tuning to decide what that ratio is.
The island would also have some basic customization, like preset locations where you could slot in different styles of buildings, benches, plants, so on. I don’t think a full drag and drop system would work with SSO on a large scale, maybe just in your house, but I do think there should be some options you can put in places to make it feel customized, or on a basic grid system.
Aiden will train your horses (a max of five a day, randomly selected from non-maxed horses) for about a 1000 exp a day once you restore the forest area. Additionally, you’ll unlock a race that you can build. I think this should be pretty simple, with preset slots where you can put in jumps and turns along an existing course and set of pathways. The more jumps you buy, either in quantity or quality, and put in, the more exp you get from the race. Additionally, other players visiting your island can pay shillings to get that exp themselves for their horses. Another way to make money. The race would also be open for free to just go on the leaderboards, where you could optionally put in a sum of money every day for the winner for people who pay to enter.
Additionally, once you get the forest restored, Aiden will also offer to restore the paddock in town to make dressage, jumping, or western events which can be set up much the same way. You can buy extra course boards to swap out all three tracks and make them available like the cross-country tracks as well, or maybe build another paddock for it.
The horse paddocks are really just for a fan-favorite request, having open paddocks to see all your horses. There are three paddocks on the island to start, and once they’re repaired you can have ten horses in each, and then twenty once you expand them. I imagine that there could be a number of pathing loops you could set your horses on, and they’ll just walk around or stand in the paddocks on those preset tracks to make it look a little more active. It would be cool too if any horses not in your stables would be rotated into the paddocks at random every day.
Beach repair is small and should be pretty quick. It opens up letting people visit you and you to visit other islands with another dock. That’s about it. I’m debating whether you should be able to see other people on your island if it’s a random person visiting you, but eh. Guess that’s up in the air. It may have to be mandatory because of systems.
And making the house bigger I already covered, so I’ll skip it for now.
So, by the end of Stage Two, you should have these features:
Caring station
New home stable
Supplies shop
Ferry to South Hoof and New Hill Crest
Trailer point
Ability to rename the island
Inn/hotel (Aiden’s house)
Your house (double room)
Barn customization
House customization
Village customization
Race maker
Horse food stand
Cafe
Tack shop
Clothing shop
Training paddock
Expanded docks
Horse paddocks
Horse trainer (Aiden)
It’s also at this point that some NPCs will start to come visit you and that gifting system will open up further.
Now, Stage Three:
Aiden: This place has really come back to life. Can’t believe how much it’s changed. Thanks, Player, for letting me be a part of it. Means a lot.
From here on out, the projects I got for you are just to make Island Name better. Add some ease of access for you and our guests. Let me know when you want to discuss the details.
Quest Accept.
Great! Well, we could use a vet for starters. No one’s hurt, but hate to see something happen and not be able to handle it. Also, with you working all day, it would be nice to have another hand taking care of the horses. I know Maya’s offered to help. Maybe make it more permanent than what she does now. Oh, and someone to train the horses better. I don’t mind working a few every day, but I’m not a professional. Might be able to run things faster if we had someone here.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to build a space for myself. I know it’s not my island, but I’d appreciate a space. I can’t be here running the place all the time, so a garden or something to unwind would be nice. What do you mean that’s still work?
Oh, I saw this spot on the back end of the island. Might be a good training spot for your druid business. Yeah, I know about that. Don’t worry, stays on the island.
I got another blueprint for your house too, so let me know if you want to add anything else.
Let me know when you’re ready to get started.
Quest End.
Stage Three is about building convenient functionality on the island. Most of these are straight forward. You get a vet, an upgraded version of Stable Care (either cheaper, bigger blocks of time, or you can buy with shillings, if not just permanently hire Maya), and there’s a secret area only you and people in your party can enter, more or less to be used for a training area with druid magic, supposing something like a mastery system was added, but it could also just be used to expand existing druid training. There could be some other easy additions like a notary for changing horse names, access to the Lifetime store, and a riding club point.
There was some discussion in the WOJ Discord about changing the daily care system so that instead of constantly having to care for your horses, you build bond with your horse while leveling them, and it’s permanently at max after that as a meter of how close you are instead of health. If that’s the case, I think Maya could still be there to increase bond for you, supposing you could hire a trainer separately to skip levels, maybe bond is related to caring for the horse, which Maya would handle? I dunno. This system is designed around the system as is.
The build for Aiden is just to be nice. There’s no bonus for it, it just builds an area of Aiden.
At the end of Stage Three, you’ll have:
Caring station
New home stable
Supplies shop
Ferry to South Hoof and New Hill Crest
Trailer point
Ability to rename the island
Inn/hotel (Aiden’s house)
Your house (second story)
Barn customization
House customization
Village customization
Race maker
Horse food stand
Cafe
Tack shop
Clothing shop
Training paddock
Expanded docks
Horse paddocks
Horse trainer (Aiden & regular trainer)
Vet
Updated Stable Care
New area for Aiden
Secret druid space
Notary
Access to Lifetime store
Riding Club Master
Stage Four is kinda my last full stage idea and it focused on opening the island up to future expansions easily by adding magic options. I think crafting would go hand in hand with SSO, and particularly this entire system. Further stages could be able adding functionality to that kind of system, like opening gardens to farming supplies for crafting, but for now, I’ll leave that up in the air and focus on just this last stage with what we have in game right now.
Aiden: This is turning into a real destination, isn’t it, Player? Almost magic to see how much this place has changed since we started on it. Hey, speaking of magic, I have an idea.
Quest Accept
Aiden: Listen, I know you and your friends are, uh, magical. I mean, this whole island gives you away, if you ask me, but I’ve also seen your friends around. And I know about the druids. Not going to tell or anything, but I want to help if I can with that business. Seems important.
Now, what if we brought some of that here to Island Name. Might help set us apart. I can cover up any of it that matters to our guests, like that secret space we have already, but maybe we could expand it a little for your friends. Use it to change up the island, add some more space. Up to you. Let me know if you want to get started.
Quest End.
Stage Four adds a lot of magic to the island, and it also is the ground work for future updates. It’s finally at Stage Four we get that biome changer I talked about, as well as the option to form more islands, which you can add more functions to later. I think a lot of druid things can be added at this point, like portals to the Secret Stonering and Pandoria, as well as a magic race mode to the cross-country race like what we have in the Cloud Kingdom.
It also would be cool at this point if you could have a library you could build to reference lore material we’ve collected, which would probably be pretty useful for quests moving forward.
It feels like Evergray, Avalon, or Rhiannon should step in for this stage, if not all of them for different features to help with the magic parts. Personally, and if it’s not obvious by the podcast, I really like these three characters for building the druids out as an order, and I think this would be a good way to develop some of the druids’ recovery stage, as well as our powers as the PC.
In total, the features Stage Four would end with are:
Caring station
New home stable
Supplies shop
Ferry to South Hoof and New Hill Crest
Trailer point
Ability to rename the island
Inn/hotel (Aiden’s house)
Your house (second story)
Barn customization
House customization
Village customization
Race maker
Horse food stand
Cafe
Tack shop
Clothing shop
Training paddock
Expanded docks
Horse paddocks
Horse trainer (Aiden & regular trainer)
Vet
Updated Stable Care
New area for Aiden
Secret druid space
Notary
Access to Lifetime store
Riding Club Master
Portals
Library
Biome changer
Island additions
Magic race mode
Connections to main story (optional)
And that’s...everything for now, I think? That’s a lot, but this feature would be massive and I wanted to go really in depth with it even if I couldn’t make graphics this time around like with the masteries. I think it’s still really important that SSO is combating price bloat in the game, and this might be a good way to change that up by giving shillings more of a use. Generally, I wanted to design it around the ideas of end game content for players looking for a reason to get on SSO more, and also to create more player made content to continue that idea.
So, yeah. What are y’all’s thoughts on a system like this?
