BSD Locations- Yokohama Visit 2024 - Part 5

The final part of the Yokohama Pilgrimage!

24. Harbor View Park (S1EP9)

It's so close to France Yama. It was really windy and a pleasant area to relax after a long day. You can see a wonderful view of the entire city from here!! The sun was setting around the time I visited so it was kind of perfect :')

25. Harbor View Police Station (S1EP9)

Only a few minutes from the Harbor View Park. It so happens that a black car also passed by as I was taking a picture, such a great coincidence XD

26. Motomachi Park Telephone Booth

A nice old-fashioned telephone booth!! I'm not sure it is still operating though...There were some beautiful western styled architectural buildings on the way here.

It was getting so dark at this point that I was worried I wouldn't be able to find this telephone booth, but thankfully I did! (It was only like 16:45 or something 😭)

27. Motomachi Park (S3EP26)

The park featured in the 15!anime adaptation. Honestly this place was kinda difficult to find (i think I literally passed by a cemetery??). It was so deserted and I'm the kind of person who gets spooked when alone and loses sense of direction when it starts getting dark lmao. I tried to match the angle of the anime but the design of the park was slightly different.

How was Dazai even jumping over that pillar thing? It was so big, it would take a lot of effort to climb on top of one, much less jump from one pillar to another 😭

When I was leaving the park, I saw a cute kitty too!! Somehow, I felt like my trip was really complete lol. I really wish I had some cat food (I want more cat friends!!!! 😭)

28. The Sky Garden Yokohama Landmark Tower (OP2)

The final place on my list and one I was dying with excitement to visit!! S2 opening is so iconic and my favourite BSD opening, so I tried to search for a building with the same view hahaha. The ticket costs 1,000 yen, but I got it for 900 yen by booking in advance on Klook! The view was absolutely stunning!!!! I would definitely recommend coming here for the night view! 💕

The Cosmos Clock 21 changes colors every 15 minutes and it's so pretty!! They have a cafe and they have some books too! You can just sit and relax while gazing out towards the beautiful Yokohama timeline! :)

Speaking of which, they even had the BSD Anthology collection in a section labelled, "Books based on Yokohama" XD

I picked a random one and there was a chapter in which Kunikida was sick? I'm not sure if the anthology series is being translated anywhere but I sure as hell do not remember any chapter like this?? There was even one where Fukuzawa was feeding cats or something and I'm so intrigued, I will consider getting a copy if I ever find it in stores.

It seems that they have days when they plan fireworks at the Yokohama harbor. I saw it on a free pamphlet i collected from the subway station. It's called Yokohama Sparkling Twilight!! I've added the link for any of your fanfic requirements lol. Imagine how cool it would be to see the fireworks from here thoo!? 😩💖

Yokohama Museum of Art was the last place on my list. It's actually located close to the Landmark tower, but it was getting really cold and my legs were killing me so I had to call it a day lol :')

Final Thoughts

Looking back now, I find it crazy to think I planned to visit all these places on foot in one single day (and managed to pull it off???) If I had started a little bit earlier, I suppose I could have squeezed in a few more places, because it gets dark so quickly in winter, but the exhaustion would have got me before that hahaha. I think I walked 30,000 steps that day, the most I have ever walked in my life ig 😂 But it was totally worth it!! I felt so happy to see all the places featured in the anime, and it's just amazing how much work the anime team put into the smallest details. It's just so wholesome and fun to connect the places to the anime versions.

I think it would be better to do such a pilgrimage in summer instead. The BSD anime page on twitter had also made some posts about some of the locations, which i forgot to share. I'll add them to part 1, to the other references I listed.

I'm not sure if it's because I love the series so much, that made me romanticize the place a bit, but Yokohama really was such a lovely place. It was such a charming and peaceful city and when I walked around the harbour I found myself thinking how I wouldn't mind living here hahaha. If I ever get the chance to visit again, I would like to relax a bit, without having to worry about moving along to the next destination XD

Alone Together

Characters: Felicia Hardy and Walter Hardy from Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man (the first one)

Summary: Just in the nick of time, Felicia comes across a new companion while Walter struggles to come up with plans on how to escape the Maggia. (A glimpse into insomniac!Felicia’s childhood.)

Notes: I haven’t written anything in a long time, but I’ve had enough of the lack of Felicia fanfics, she deserves more attention. Thank you so much @uh-kitty-got-wet for reading this over for me and giving me feedback 💕

Walter’s days with Felicia were limited. Whenever he looked at his little girl, he wanted to pack their things and escape the country with her. Run away and never look back, start everything anew. He knew this was easier said than done. But after he dwelled on possibilities for days, it dawned upon him that it couldn’t be done at all. His heart dropped knowing that a safe life with his little girl wouldn’t be possible. Not with him in the picture.

He might have been a simple cat burglar, well, maybe not that simple since he was highly skilled and working all by himself. Yet despite all that, he was sure that not even the most intricate tricks up his sleeve could help him out of this situation. Not when the entire Maggia was after him. They already found out his identity, and the moment they mentioned Felicia, he knew they were done for.

After taking a sip from his lukewarm coffee, he turned to Felicia, watching her innocently play with some dolls he had gifted her the other day, unaware of their situation.

Felicia turned to Walter with a toothy grin. “Daddy, look!”

She proceeded to clack the dolls against each other and reenacted a scene from a movie they watched together, but Walter couldn’t focus on what she was trying to show him. He shook off the racing thoughts and managed to give her a bittersweet smile when she was done and waiting for his verdict. “That’s great, kiddo”, he said with pseudo enthusiasm.

“Can I have your ice cream, Daddy?”

That simple question was the first thing that pushed Walter’s overwhelming thoughts into the back of his mind, and he bursted out laughing at his daughter's toothy and impish grin.

Currently, they were sitting on a bench in the park, enjoying ice cream together while it was still hot and sunny outside. He wanted to spend as much time with Felicia before anything would happen to either of them. If things went south, this could be their last memories together.

He took her ice cream and switched it with his. She jolted in her seat, delighted that she got her desired ice cream, and immediately started consuming it, unbothered by her father ruffling her hair. “If you wanted chocolate, why didn’t you say so from the start?”

She shrugged her shoulders, “Uh, I dunno.”

“Kids”, Walter thought to himself, shaking his head yet smiling from ear to ear.

It didn’t take her long to finish her ice cream, and while Walter was still enjoying his, Felicia started bombarding him with questions, as kids usually did. They had a lovely and long conversation. What came as a surprise to Walter, was that they even talked about Lydia, and how she’d have a strawberry ice cream with them if she were still with them.

The fact that Felicia could talk so joyfully about her mother made Walter’s heart swell with pride. For such a young girl, she was incredibly strong and resilient. Sometimes he didn’t dare utter a word about Lydia, afraid that talking about her would resurface all the pain he had caused. To himself, but mostly Felicia. And here she was, smiling at the mention of her beloved mom.

The ice cream almost started dripping onto his hand, untouched for a couple of minutes due to the topic of Felicia’s mother stirring something within him and robbing his appetite. Everything seemed to slow down for him. Felicia had her sparkling eyes. Recognizing Lydia in his daughter's face reminded him of the guilt he had to carry to this very day. Lydia died. He had always blamed the Black Cat, but had he ever blamed the man behind the mask? Had he ever blamed himself? It was all his doing in the end. He was playing it too risky. He couldn’t allow Felicia to be next. Maybe she would be better off without him in the picture.

Felicia interrupted his planning once again when she felt a sudden raindrop hit her left cheek. “Daddy, I think it’s gonna rain”

They didn’t even realize the sun was starting to disappear behind thick, dark clouds.

Walter reached out to wipe the drop away, but as soon as he did, yet another fell upon her face. He sighed, “So it seems…”, and got up. He opened up his hand, and she jumped off the bench before putting her hand in his. “Let’s go home, kiddo. Before it starts pouring.”

And it surely did start pouring. At least it wasn’t dark yet, and Walter didn’t have to clean her chocolate-stained face since the rain did it for him. They started running, so they could get home quicker, until Felicia exclaimed, “Wait!”

She stood still, forcing Walter to a stop along with her. “What is it, kid? You okay?”

Felicia didn’t answer him but looked around as if she were looking for something in the rain. Had she lost something or forgotten something at the park?

Before Walter could question her, she let go of his hand and bolted in another direction. “I’ll be right back!” she called while not even looking back. Walters' eyes widened as he ran after her. The worst-case scenarios were starting to flood his mind. What if someone was following them? What if she was lured into a trap?

“Felicia, wait!” Walter called out for her. She didn’t hear him from the heavy raindrops colliding with the ground. When he caught up with her in the street corner, he saw her kneeling to inspect something next to the trash bags. They were looking at a small kitten, abandoned in a little box. It was shaking like a leaf, and it sneezed. Walter was amazed at the fact that Felicia could hear its meowing in the rain. “Look, daddy, it’s a little kitty! The kitty is so lonely…” She turned to her dad and begged him, “Can we bring the kitty home, pleaaaaaaase?”

Walter looked down at the both of them, and he knew then and there that this was a sign, and everything was falling into place. They found each other.

“Of course, Sweetheart. Let’s go home now.”

At home, Felicia took a shower while Walter took it upon himself to dry the kitten. Luckily he had some experience with cats of all ages before, since Lydia loved them so much, so he knew what had to be done.

A couple of days went by fast. They brought the kitten to a vet as soon as possible and took him in. A bunch of necessities for the kitten were bought, and one too many cat toys, and Felicia already took it upon herself to name the kitten.

“Daddy, look at his paws! He has white paws, and they look like mittens. So his name is Mr. Mittens!”

Felicia wanted to do everything for Mr. Mittens. She was feeding him, playing with him, and even insisted on doing the kitty litter. Walter bristled with pride when he saw how responsible Felicia was being. She was his smart little girl. And even though it was too early to let her go, he knew she was a fighter.

That night while tucking her in was the night he feared the most. He had to tell her goodbye. He made sure to tell her what he needed her to know. He kissed the top of her head, and booped her nose, making her giggle.

“Felicia, I…”

His mouth froze. There were too many words waiting to be spoken out loud. He swallowed them painfully.

“I love you, sweetheart.”

Felicia looked at him with bright eyes, and answered, “I love you too, daddy.”

Walter hugged her tightly and tried to blink the tears away when he felt her little hands squeeze him back one last time, before leaving her room and quietly closing the door shut.

She fell asleep with a smile on her face, unaware of the fact that Walter was still wide awake, regretfully writing a letter with her name on it next to her room.

She couldn’t have known.

She couldn’t have known that those were the last words she would have ever told her dad.

I hope it leaves quickly too. I’ve had it before and I’m vaccinated I just, uh, unintentionally (I swear) neglected to get the boosters for the COVID vaccine. My husband joked that I’m getting the booster the natural way lol

I’m still working on the pirate and mermaid story, I promise! I just got distracted by some other original projects at the same time 😅 (this is how my creative process always goes. I bounce between a gazillion things all at once it drives everyone else crazy because “[Star], just finish something!” Lol). But Dax and Lyra are getting at least three parts!

Yeah I wish I had more inspiration for Redacted stuff in general right now too. I love writing for these characters but I just am creatively stuck at the moment for them. Like none of my half-started drafts for one-shots hold any spark for me right now and neither do the Micro Fic prompts sitting in my inbox. Last time I had COVID I wrote like 35+ fics in two weeks because I had all the ideas and this time I’m just… empty of ideas :-/

Skating into Sweetness

You don’t know why you agreed to this (you do, it was his eyes). You’re struggling to catch your footing, ice skates laced up tight, knees bent inwards to try not to fall as you wave your hands frantically in the air for balance. You had only ever gone skating once before swearing off the activity due to your utter failure. Fast forward to now, where Jake had convinced you to go skating with him at Somerset, with claims of the rink being lit up with pretty lights, hot chocolate waiting for you afterwards and a great opportunity for some instagram pics. He never told you he was ridiculously good at the activity, making you feel embarrassed for being a fully grown adult with absolutely zero foot coordination on the ice. There were children doing laps around you for goodness sake.

“You go on without me, I need a break!” you leaned against the wall of the rink, calling out to Jake who was literally spinning circles in front of you, as effortless as a professional.

Catching your balance and your breath, you watched as he sped around the diameter of the ice, gliding through the throngs of people easily enough to catch the eyes of more than a couple onlookers. On his way back to you, you watched him smile at you but easily got distracted by his thighs flexing as he propelled himself forward, the muscles visible through his dark wash denim jeans. Now you could see exactly why he was getting some appreciative glances.

Coming to a stop in front of you, he was panting slightly with a wide smile on and snowflakes sitting prettily on his long lashes. You felt foolish for feeling foolish, only now taking in the fact that Jake was having such a good time and you were happy to be spending the time with him doing something he so clearly enjoyed. Smiling back at him, you reached for his hands with both of yours, entwining your fingers and slowly easing yourself off the wall to stand shakily with him on the ice.

“Maybe if we try like this, I can keep up?” you asked timidly, not wanting to rain on his fun but wanting to share his joy.

“Getting tired trying to keep up, mi vida?”

“You know I stand no chance against those thighs.”

“Hmm, that is true, amor. Come, let’s take a lap and then settle in with some hot chocolate, si?”

“Ooooh, hot chocolate sounds amazing,” you perk up at the thought, eager to start gliding across the ice with Jake’s help.

With Jake skating backwards and holding your hands, you managed to make it around the rink twice with no falls before tapping out for the aforementioned promised drinks. Still holding his hand in line for refreshments, you reached your hand out with your cell phone camera facing the both of you to snap some pictures of the lovely evening. Your cheeks and noses were cold and numb from the chill, smiles almost hard to conjure but the sparkle in your eyes were unmistakable, even on camera.

For the last shot, Jake had his arms wrapped around you from behind, planting a sweet kiss on your cheek making you grin into the camera. The picture was so tooth-rotting, so sweet, the side of Jake not everyone was privy to knowing, it warmed your heart so much you immediately changed your wallpaper, smiling down at your phone goofily while he purchased your drinks.

“You’re gonna make Steven jealous, you know.” Jake hummed into your ear as he looked at your new wallpaper.
