OVERANALYSIS OF THE BURNING SPICE UPDATE TRAILER BECAUSE YOU KNOW I HAVE TO

we open up like this. pretty ominous words ... and you wonder which one is the demon and which is the god. burning spice and golden cheese seem to be very similar, possibly the most parallels that one could draw from the ancients and their respective beasts.

And then we get this shot. Obviously it's showing the soul jam, but there are also some things behind it. One resembles a snake ... APOPHIS ANYONE? this has THE most Egyptian mythology symbolism ever. if golden cheese represents ra, which makes one hundred percent sense considering her kingdom and wealth and radiance and all that, and the fact that she resembles a falcon, then the snake on this wall HAS to represent apophis. it can't not. heck, in some versions of the story apophis was A FORMER SUN GOD. like crk def knows what they're doing.

there's also this tiger character ... nutmeg tiger I'm pretty sure? something like that. they seem to be under the influence of burning spice, as well as all the creatures around them. they seem to be at a higher "position" than all these other guys, though. maybe a willing host?

and there is this. this is really interesting. the fact that Golden Cheese is the one to say this is very intriguing. as far as we knew, the ancients had no knowledge that the beasts even existed until pure vanilla's trip. he wrote the letter to dark cacao, and it was all "you won't believe this - but the place called BEAST-yeast has BEASTS in it!!!" and dark cacao was equally surprised. they didn't know. they thought they were the first ever wielders of the soul jam. but golden cheese ... seems to know a bit more than she lets on to the rest of the group. and a bit more than us. what the heck is the spice swarm?

also, the return (and release) of smoked cheese!! man I missed this guy. he seems to be working with golden cheese in this shot, but then what was his little deal at the end of the first teaser about? it does make sense, though, that he would try to at least be against burning spice - his entire goal is to get the soul jam because he thinks the current wielders aren't worthy - but to me it seems like he might have his own third side in this battle. he'll probably convince both sides he's working with them, knowing this dude. he wants the power of abundance and destruction, a second half he knew nothing about, the ability to make a change in the kingdoms and the lives of everyone in them.

and these two images are probably the most interesting of them all. they seem to be part of some sort of ancient papyrus or prophecy or something like that. golden cheese is yelling about the "great destroyer." could it be possible he was some sort of legend in their kingdom, a prophecy just waiting to unfold? could golden cheese have known about this threat since the beginning? could the beasts' corruption have been inevitable from the start, written in the stars ... and could the witches have known about it?

There was no doubt in anyone's mind that Smoked Cheese Cookie loved you. As the citizens of the Golden Cheese Kingdom prepare for the oncoming battle against the beast, Smoked Cheese Cookie would not stop talking about you. From ramblings of admiration and love to worrying about your safety; you are always on his mind.

But who could blame him. You loved him just as much. Always doting on him, making sure he's okay. When he tried to overthrow Golden Cheese Cookie, while you disagreed with what he was doing, you didn't leave his side. You stood by him, loyal to the end.

He loves you dearly, and he shows you as much as he can. He makes you meals as often as he can. He holds you close and as tightly as possible. He even wrote you a song and a bunch of poems. It's clear to everyone that he loves you.

However, others can only take so much of his voice shouting your praise for so long. *Sigh* "Smoked Cheese Cookie, please rest your tongue for a minute. (Y/n) Cookie is safe back home. You needn't go on a spiral of worry."

The cookie looks at his majesty and sighs as well. "Apologies your radiance. I just need to know that they are okay." The queen nods but doesn't say anything else. Smoked Cheese Cookie walks away from the tent and stands at the edge of a cliff, surveying the land. He reaches for a pendant around his neck and opens the locket. Inside is a picture of you and him on your wedding day.

Adorned with gold and flowers, your smile shines brighter than anything else around. He holds you close and smiles at you, nothing but love in his eyes. With a content smile, he breathes out and closes the locket. Looking up and over the land, he feels his resolve grow ever stronger, all so he can win this fight and return to you, his beloved.

Walking away, he heads to his tent. Entering, he stops in surprise at the sight of a cheese bird resting on his bed with a note tied to his leg. Walking over, he takes the letter and reads it.

"Dear Smoked Cheese Cookie, it's been some time since we've been together. I miss you dearly, my love. I long to hold you and hear your voice. I hope the day you return to me comes soon. I hope you and the others fair well against the beast and return safely. Until then, though, these letters must suffice. I won't take up any more of your time, but I do hope you write back. Smoked Cheese Cookie smiles as he reads the letter. He's glad to know you are okay and he is happy to know you miss him too. He makes his way to his desk and pulls out the supplies he needs to write you a letter back. He'll tell you his thoughts and his feelings and how he wishes to be in your arms as well.

So how do Goldie and Burns handle giving their kids

“THE TALK”

If they're Cookies, then they probably just explain that they took pieces each other's dough and mixed them together in some cookie batter before baking them in a Witch Oven (this is true btw, it was stated in an official artbook! That's how Cookies bake other Cookies)

If they're humans (which I actually do typically imagine them as, the only reason I don't draw them as such is because idk how to yet lol), then uh. That's awkward lol. Off the top of my head, I gues it would prob go like this

Pepper Jack is really good at telling when someone is lying to him, so you have to be careful with how you phrase things to him if you want to hide something. Burning Spice warded him off the first time he asked where he came from (he was like 8 or something) by saying "I baked you in your mother's oven", which is technically true without revealing anything inappropriate (Golden Cheese still smacked him when PJ wasn't looking tho)

There was no second time, PJ found out the truth in a book lol. He likes to read and haunts the library in the Golden Cheese Kingdom often. He found a book on anatomy and reproduction and the like and was horrified by it lol. Ran to Smoked Cheese (who is his mentor), SC felt forced to explain that the book is true. A little later, when BS sat him down to try to give him The Talk, PJ just snapped at him that he already knows everything and to go away bc he doesn't want to talk about that with his father it's gross lol (BS was relieved tbh he wasn't really looking forward to this day)

When Matar Paneer was a bit older, GC told Mozzarella that she wasn't super sure how to approach that subject w/ MP effectively. Being MP's teacher, Mozz ended up taking the initiative and just giving little sex ed lesson to MP herself lol (in an age-appropriate and educational manner, ofc. Like it was biology class). MP was horrified, went to her mom asking if she knew any of this and if it's real, she unfortunately confirmed that it is. GC was kind of huffy at Mozz for doing this, but she argued that the point was for MP to learn from a trustworthy and well-informed adult within an informative context, which was accomplished, so what's really the problem? GC can explain things better and on her own terms later if she wants, Mozz just laid some groundwork to help out

They were both about 12 or 13 when these things happened. Their childhood was ruined by their teachers and some medical textbooks lol

Neither could look their parents in the eye for a week or two just because they were so embarrassed knowing The Truth Of Their Existence

BS and GC still made them sit down and endure The Talk at a later date anyway, just to be sure they understood. They were not happy campers those days lol

My Random headcanon for smokedtiger (smoked cheese x nutmeg tiger) may be out of character but I'm not known for my in character writing so yeah enjoy I suppose

from my redeem beasts au where they all have their own lackeys

• their both tsunderes nutmeg is more stubborn than smokes is

• nutmegs actually didn't realise she was in love with smokes until gumdrop pointed it out when she was venting to the other lackeys about him and had a 'oh fuck' reaction

• smokes realise his feelings for her faster then she did and had a 'oh my raidence why her!?' reaction

• They both are very stubborn both having egos that refuse to admit their feelings for each other until smokes accidentally admitted his feelings for her in the middle of a heated argument they were having they started dating right after that (while technically they started dating after he gave her the gold armband as like some kind of peace offering)

• nutmeg has zero to none relationships experience while smokes had a few flings but never a serious relationship this relationship is new to both of them

• smokes sometimes needs to force feed nutmeg food or she forgets because she's to busy training to be stronger

• smokes is taller than nutmeg and likes to relentlessly tease her about it

• early in their relationship nutmeg got very flustered anytime they did anything together either it cuddles, kissing or even hand holding made her full red but now she's used to it

• smokes is actually very possessive towards nutmeg he just doesn't show it often tiger is either not aware of it or she is aware she just ignores it as it embarrassed her

•they are both very passive aggressive to each other

•nutmeg moved in with smokes after they hit 1 year in being bf and gf

•they often argue who does the chores in their home

•before they started dating some cookies around them started shipping them because of their sexual tension and constant arguments

golden cheese was the first

• they both can cook and often make different meals as they have different tastes nutmeg prefers spicy foods while smokes prefer salty food but they have been trying to get used to eating each others food

• they still fight a lot but it often ends with them cuddling

• they both like to smell each other's scents it helps calm them down

• smokes has developed a good spice tolerance

• mozzarella and golden cheese both bet who was gonna confess first (mozzarella won)

• they both get jealous very easily but they won't admit it

• after a few years of living with the cheeses both bs and nutmeg would go back to beasts yeast as they can't leave their cookies forever so nutmeg and smokes would become a long distance relationship for awhile they often would visit each other tho

omg I MUST know about the hobbit feast??!?!!!

YES OK so we do our yearly marathon of the extended editions of LOTR and we commit to eating like hobbits the whole time!!

I’ll give you a break down of what we did for Fellowship — tonight is two towers.

To clarify: we snacked all day on stuff, and shared lots of the meals!! It was a mix of typically British foods and southern foods lmao

Breakfast — toad in hole and sage sausage (patties tho, the links in the US are not great imo).

Second breakfast — grapes and scones with marmalade, earl grey tea

Luncheon — ham and biscuits (American biscuits). More fruit (blackberries and grapes)

Afternoon tea — snack plate of salami, goat and white cheddar cheese, olives, more grapes, and these little crème biscuits. More earl grey tea

Dinner — (I skipped this) but Sam and my dad ate some pâté on sour dough rounds

Supper — left over bbq from Christmas Eve. Smoked brisket and mutton on little rolls, fried po-tay-toes.

(Bonus dessert): huge slice of orange drizzle cake and more tea!

I also snacked on shortbread with my tea, as well as these delightful crisp molasses cookies my dad made.

We usually try to do a full themed menu (one hear my mom made lambas bread and it was so good) but we were all recovering from being sick all Christmas, so we mostly ate stuff we already had. Like a giant clean out the fridge event!

Tonight is two towers, and I am attempting to make honey spiced mead cakes while my dad makes “meat’s back on the menu boys” pasta 😭. If you want to see menus years’ past, let me know!

((Long ask/ramble incoming)) Hallo :> I absolutely adore your analysis on the ending of GC/BS’s update !!! I do agree it’d overall be a better ending if Burning Spice did have his Soul Jam taken away, but… I can kinda understand why they didn’t do that?

The obvious “ooo final showdown Ancients vs Beasts!!!1!1!!1!1” thing that Devsisters probs wants to do aside, why would a character like Golden Cheese want the Light of Destruction? GC would want nothing to do with that power, in my mind. It’s the opposite of what she wants, and she wouldn’t want the Light of Change either- she’s fine with her kingdom as it is, ever growing. Yes, she could take it to safeguard it, but she hardly has any cookies awakened from their soulcheeses right now. Just Smoked Cheese. She’d have to keep it with herself. IIRC she’s also going to go see White Lily at the end of the story, and she knows that there are other Beasts out there looking for their Soul Jams, and GC doesn’t know much about the other Beasts. What if one of them took the Light of Destruction from her? Who knows whether it’d work or not, but it’s still a risk. Though, it is a lesser one than leaving it with its original owner, I will admit.

Gah, it still sucks that they didn’t do something like that though. Maybe with Golden Cheese’s new power, she could’ve awakened Burnt Cheese and Mozzarella to help guard the Light of Destruction while she goes and does… whatever she’s going to do with White Lily? I’m not even sure how she’d find the Faerie Kingdom, if that’s what she’s gonna do. Isn’t it hidden from outsiders?

Also, yeah the way they treated Nutmeg was horrid tbh. They didn’t even show her doubting her ideals at all. She’s still stuck in her ways, even after Smoked Cheese gives her that whole speech. And she’s proven right! What kind of character development is that?! It’s both boring and disappointing. Devsisters almost did it… they almost made a good story… but no. It’s sad, honestly. I loved the update until the ending- I’m not good at spotting flaws in a story on first watch but even I felt something went wrong. Now it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Oh yeah, obviously when I say she should have taken his soul jam I don't mean it so much in the same way the Beasts do it; take it, and make sure it never sees the light of day again. No attempt to absorb it whatsoever. Honestly, it's not like she doesn't have a place to keep it, and she does still have the cheesebirds to either make some sort of chamber or other containment area for it, alongside whatever other vaults her kingdom still has, and honestly depending on how much stronger her light of abundance is now, she could potentially keep one of her 3 besties (or multiple) alive long enough that she's able to take care of the stuff she needs to do while not risking the soul jam being taken obv she'd want nothing to do with the power itself, big duh there, but at the end of the day if she never uses it and makes sure it's tightly secured, it's just... kind of another treasure, yknow? hell, it could even be able to serve as a trophy of sorts if she's into that kinda thing

but like yeah she does have the infrastructure and the help and the means to keep it hidden and make sure it never falls into the wrong hands ever again, and considering she's a hoarder as is it wouldn't exactly be out of character for her, i'd say

honestly yeah tho. even if ur not in camp "JUST TAKE THE FUCKING SOUL JAM" like i am it's kind of undeniable how underwhelming this entire ending was on multiple ends. maybe someday if i'm feeling GC/BS strong enough i might make a combination fanfix/ship/redemption fic of some sort, though knowing me i'll probably end up making it 10k words like the WL/DE one and frankly that's an undertaking and a half lol

You and I agree on the CLSW (cranlime sparkling), haven’t tried the others but I’ll look into them. The normal lime one is also amazing on its own, as well as a mixer for both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Summer must!

Their candles, two in one grapefruit mint hair wash (I despise two in one products but this one doesn’t foam and is more of a cleansing conditioner I use in between shampoo and regular conditionings), and many other non food items. I’ve bought their towels, seasonal decor (usually those felt garlands), face lotions and oils. Loved all of them. Usually I only restock on the lotion, hand soap, and lavender laundry bags. Their detergent is nice tho, and I’ve also gotten their wool laundry balls but you really only ever gotta buy them like once. They also usually have pretty cute cards at the checkout! I like their cheaper flowers too, but there’s also a lot of very cute seasonal items they carry that I just can’t justify buying bc of price (have you seen their felt sunflowers? So adorable)

*especially with the gluten free microwaveable mac n cheese (I’m not gluten free if you’ve noticed, I literally just prefer some of their gluten free products. Same with the oat milk. I’m not lactose free but I just really like it)

Most of the frozen wontons I’ve tried

Chimichurri rice (goes great with the aforementioned roasted red pepper box soup, and chopped onions, green peppers, and spinach cooked in a wok)

Chicken sausage

Butternut squash gnocchi, iirc the potato gnocchi is good too

Most of their dried pastas

The bars of chocolate you find at the check out that come in packs of threes

For whatever reason, their frozen green beans and asparagus is so much better than other generic brands I’ve tried

Any of the canned olives but esp the kalamata

Sun dried tomatoes

The produce is okay, a little pricey but they had brown Mexican tomatoes once that fucked hard. The herbs trustworthy too but really where is it not

Any of their chocolate covered nuts

Their fucked up chocolate covered chips, sometimes found in their snack mixes

Peanut butter pretzel snacks

Their dried seaweed isn’t my fav, but it’s not bad. I think it’s overpriced tho but tbf I usually get huuuge, less flavored packs from Costco

Pine nuts but good Gd are they expensive

They have cute, weird heirloom hybrid squashes during the fall a lot too that are pretty tasty

Things I’ve gotten from there that I hated? I didn’t like their orange chicken, ANY of the cereals I’ve gotten from there oddly enough, their pecorino Romano only comes grated and mixed iirc and I didn’t care for it. Some of their beers have made me scowl but also those are all random brands. But their wine (yes, even SHAW. But shoutout to coco bon red blend and blue fin moscato RIP!) has never does me wrong…except for any other flavor of the simpler wines canned ones. I can only do the sparkling white and literally no else I've forced to drink it has liked it! some of their salads have done me wrong. the canned chickpeas and dolmas were off. and some of their pricy juice mixes left me a bit disappointed.
