My Dad tested positive (again) this morning. He started feeling poorly yesterday and as he’s the kind of person who barely noticed a headache when he was having aural migraines bad enough to send him to ER, I scampered off the couch and out of the house pretty damn quick. Based on the timeline, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me - I’ve coughed and sneezed more since getting home from vacation but we were all sure it was just allergies and I’ve tested negative. We’re currently pretty sure the culprit is the 24 hours spent at his 55th (?) high school reunion over the weekend. My Mom has surrendered to the fact that she’s going to test positive by tomorrow. So I’m sitting here in The Annex dithering. 500 yards away and now banned from entering my parents’ house.
(And I’m mad because the embossing power is not adhering correctly so I trashed at least a half dozen cards and that means I have to redesign my Rosh Hashanah cards and now they’re probably going to arrive late. But that’s a completely different issue.)

"Engineers at the University of Pennsylvania have made a critical breakthrough that promises better outcomes for pregnancies threatened with pre-eclampsia, a condition that arises due to insufficient blood flow to the placenta, resulting in high maternal blood pressure and restricted blood flow to the fetus.
Pre-eclampsia is one of the leading causes of stillbirths and prematurity worldwide, and it occurs in 3 to 5% of pregnancies. Without a cure, options for these patients only treat symptoms, such as taking blood pressure medication, being on bed rest, or delivering prematurely—regardless of the viability of their baby.
Making a decision to treat pre-eclampsia in any manner can be a moral conundrum, to balance many personal health decisions with long-standing impacts—and for Kelsey Swingle, a doctoral student in the UPenn bioengineering lab, these options are not enough.
In previous research, she conducted a successful proof-of-concept study that examined a library of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs)—which are the delivery molecules that helped get the mRNA of the COVID vaccine into cells—and their ability to reach the placenta in pregnant mice.
In her latest study, published in Nature, Swingle examined 98 different LNPs and their ability to get to the placenta and decrease high blood pressure and increase vasodilation in pre-eclamptic pregnant mice.
Her work shows that the best LNP for the job was one that resulted in more than 100-fold greater mRNA delivery to the placenta in pregnant mice than an FDA-approved LNP formulation.
The drug worked.
“Our LNP was able to deliver an mRNA therapeutic that reduced maternal blood pressure through the end of gestation and improved fetal health and blood circulation in the placenta,” says Swingle.
“Additionally, at birth we saw an increase in litter weight of the pups, which indicates a healthy mom and healthy babies. I am very excited about this work and its current stage because it could offer a real treatment for pre-eclampsia in human patients in the very near future.”
While further developing this cure for pre-eclampsia and getting it to the market for human use is on the horizon for the research team, Swingle had to start from scratch to make this work possible. She first had to lay the groundwork to run experiments using pregnant mice and determine how to induce pre-eclampsia in this animal model, processes that are not as well studied.
But, by laying this groundwork, Swingle’s work has not only identified an avenue for curing pre-eclampsia, it also opens doors for research on LNP-mRNA therapeutics addressing other reproductive health challenges...
As Swingle thinks ahead for next steps in her research, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, she will also collaborate to further optimize the LNP to deliver the mRNA even more efficiently, as well as understanding the mechanisms of how it gets to the placenta, a question still not fully answered.
They are already in talks about creating a spin-off company and want to work on bringing this LNP-mRNA therapeutic to clinical trials and the market.
Swingle, who is currently finishing up her Ph.D. research, has not only successfully led this new series of studies advancing pre-eclampsia treatment at Penn, she has also inspired other early career researchers in the field as she continues to thrive while bringing women’s health into the spotlight."

“How did you know how to do it?”
“Do what?”
“Stitch me up.”
“It's just sewing.”
“And the IV?”
Jazz’s mouth opens, then closes as she also closes her eyes. He lets her think about the answer, a good enough lie. “A friend had a doctor phase a few years ago. We would try to do a lot of things on fake skin before she moved on to tattooing.”
“Yeah, right.”
“I am telling the truth. Look, I had- I had a weird childhood, so sometimes I had to improvise.”
“No, I believe you,” he says, and he means it. It's so stupid she couldn't make it up. There's also a part of his still light-headed brain that can translate weird childhood and improvise into what it truly means. Maybe she has lied, but not about the thing he thought she would, and it counts for something. The wind on the roof gives him shivers. “Why would you do it?”
“Do what?”
“Help me out. It's none of your business.”
Jazz watches him attentively and there's something about it that makes his muscles tense, body fully ready to jump. She tilts her head just slightly. “We live together,” she points out as if it explains everything. As always, it doesn't. Then she bites her lip. “I- I have never had anyone to catch me if I fall. I guessed you don't have anyone like this either.”
It hits him harder than the fucking bullet last night. “You think I would catch you.”
Jazz smiles and it's full of mischief. Then, like a fucking psycho she is, she leans back out the edge of the building.
He has her arm in an iron grip before he can think about it and pulls so hard, she stumbles forward and falls onto him, laughing, bouncing back like a tennis ball. “Are you fucking insane?”
Jazz just laughs harder, her forehead on Jason's chest, her arm still firmly kept in his hand. “Now we both know you would catch me.”
“You are so full of shit,” he grumbles, but the vibration on his skin manages to calm his heart back to a rational tempo. “You could have died.” It makes her burst out into a fit of giggles. “I got shot last night, you dipshit, I wouldn't be able to jump after you.” Not to mention the lack of proper equipment.
“Sorry I needed an outlet after literally saving your ass.”
Jason closes his eyes, trying to contain the laughter, “I will push you.” The wound was on his inner thigh, not his ass, so she can fuck right off for all he cares.
“I'd like to see you try,” she bites back. “You should have this checked out, by the way. Are you even vaccinated?”
“No need to.”
“I'll drive,” she gets off him, deaf to anything he says, and starts to climb down.
Jason follows. She doesn't even know the address. “Like hell, you will.” The story on AO3

feeling that level of work burnout where not only am i burnt out on my current job, i can’t imagine any job in any industry being any better.
#gay and obscure nonsense#still don't have enough vets to meet client demands still training an idiot who can't take criticism#still the only para staff who's consistently on time#now with the added benefit of being the only credentialed tech so i have to take as many tech appointments as possible#to spare our one (1) remaining vet from having to do so many vaccines she doesn't have time for anything else#and now with one fewer competent coworker :(#we're hiring and our candidates seem promising but our training 'process' is an absolute free for all mess#in which trainees are scheduled as if they're already fully trained so we don't have enough people to train them AND do regular work#so it's gonna get worse before it gets better lmao#and god knows how long it'll be before we can get another vet#corporate is trying to get us one ASAP but there's a serious nationwide shortage of vets in general#especially vets who want to work in a clinical setting#only light in the dark is that our new regional management seems to be actually good and supportive for once#we met with them yesterday and i didn't feel dead inside afterwards which is very new#when i started it was the very beginning of the pandemic so my only experience with regional management was zoom calls#in which they told us to work harder while they sat on their couches at home completely safe from covid#while we risked our actual literal lives for this shit#then those people got fired and we kinda just never heard from the people who replaced them#so this is definitely an improvement. let's hope it lasts lmao

More owl141 please?
hiii honey~~ i hope you enjoy ~○~
Tumblr media
The first time owl!reader falls ill the boys are a WRECK.
being much bigger owl hybrids, with proper treatment as fledglings, their immune system is better equipped for diseases and illnesses. They got their vaccines, physicals, and health checkups every 4 months.
But poor, sweet, small reader didn't get good health care in the facility/fledgling home, so when she gets sick, she's outta commission for a better part of a week.
It started small, her wings aching dully where they connected to her spine; a heaviness she couldn't shake. She winces every time she stretches them too far, yelping loud when she tried to force them out fully. Gaz gave her a long massage upon hearing the sweet cry of pain, and it eased the ache for a little, leaving her cooing contently in their shared nest.
But she got worse, not better :/. The next day, she couldn't even lift her wings up an inch, and her body completely zapped of energy as harsh coughs wracked through her. The poor readers head pounded, freezing cold despite the sweat clinging to her skin. She whimpered with every rattling exhale.
The boys were on edge from it.
Simon takes a full half hour, pressing her into his chest while soap and gaz give her wings another massage this time with aloe and jojoba oil soothed into each feather. They put a mint honey paste down her spine and covered it, soft smooches to hush her complaints about the stickiness.
It helped instantly.
Price is in the kitchen, hushed voice talking to a Dr on the phone about a visit. He returns to the nest room with medicine, tsking sharply at the birdie when she gets pouty about taking gross stuff. When she does, though, she's rewarded with coos and chuffs and gets a solid 2 hour nap, curled between her boys and snoozing so contently.
It doesn't last.
The dr shows up later that evening. Sweet little reader sniffling into Johnny's chest as she's poked and prodded. Simon gives a warning growl when the Dr squeezes too hard on her wing, causing the reader to yelp loudly at the pressure.
Soon, she's done, wrapped back up in blankets and hand fed soup. Poor thing has pneumonia, and it takes her almost 2 weeks to overcome it. She spends that time in a haze, in and out of sleep as she's doted on. Her fever breaks on day 5, which is a huge relief for the boys.
Late night treatments where she's propped against John's chest with a breathing mask over her face. The older male ran a soothing paw up and down her back, chuffing into her neck. He can hear Kyle and johnny in the kitchen goofing around while they prepare her tea with lemon and honey.
Simon, in his white tank and low hanging sweats, ran to the pharmacy for her medication pickup. Kissing her gently on top of the head when she whines at his retreating back. Her strawberry feathers fluffing in clear annoyance with a sharp tang of lime cuts through the air.
He huffs through his nose at the sound of John's deep laughter, no doubt ruffling her feathers just a bit more.
"Easy there, birdie. He'll be back."
Kyle and Johnny emerge from the kitchen tea and soup in hands :))
Take care of yourselves, okay guys? And stay strong. ❤️

in 2020 when vanessa hudgens said "people will die, which is terrible, but like, inevitable," she was rightfully criticized by a ton of people, but now that's how almost everyone approaches covid. in 2022 when the then-director of the cdc rochelle walensky said it was "really encouraging" that mostly "people who were unwell to begin with" were the ones dying and not abled people, she was also widely criticized (though mostly by more left-leaning people and disability justice advocates). both of those statements were considered horrific things to say and devaluing the lives of people who were dying from covid.
but covid didn't stop spreading, it didn't stop mutating, it didn't stop killing and disabling people, the vaccines don't fully prevent it, you can catch it even if you're not uniquely vulnerable- and having had a covid infection before makes you more vulnerable, anyway. regardless of what the cdc or your boss wants you to think it's not safe to unmask just because everyone else is doing it.
i understand that the cdc and politicians have been minimizing covid for years, i understand most people don't know you need a kn95/kf95/n95/etc mask to stop the virus, i understand most people don't know that you can spread covid asymptomatically or presymptomatically, i understand that there's been a complete failure to communicate the dangers of covid to the public, i understand most people don't even know what long covid is or how covid can completely ruin your life without killing you. i understand that a lot of people don't know, but there are also people who do know and they don't care. or who are vaguely aware of the dangers of covid but choose not to pay attention to it because it's scary or inconvenient.
but we're five years into the pandemic and people have, for the most part, given up on caring, and i'm running out of patience and understanding and the ability to be nice about it. bc if you're not masking in your day to day life, that means that you've on some level accepted that "people will die, which is terrible, but like, inevitable," and that you're fine with contributing to that. i feel like one morning i woke up in a world that went from condemning that sentiment to fully embracing it overnight. and that's something i don't think i can ever really understand or sympathize with.

I have always liked the idea of the school for mutants being very literally a school, and I know yes it is but I mean in the sense of if you want to be an X-men, you have to be a teacher. They have exams at the end of years, they have Ofsted checks (for those who don’t know what they are, it’s essentially people coming to check that the school is good at being a school) and they have teachers for every subject, which brings me to my next point;
“I’m Right You’re Wrong, Here’s What The X-Men (‘97 specifically) Would Teach As Subjects”.
(Also this is based off of UK school system but I use American terms like “seniors” and “AP” and “Midterms”)
Maths Teacher Gambit is surprising, for a guy most assume to not being entirely smart, an idiot goof off who’s the comedic relief. But you need to know numbers to gamble, and that he does with being very well versed in mathematics way past an AP level. He’s made the promise for every senior class that he will teach them to play blackjack on the final day, and has only ever lost once. Which is when the rule of “no betting real money” came into place.
English teacher Jean reminds me of the kind of teacher who would let the social outcasts into her class for their lunch breaks. The kids more likely to be bullied and she will fight tooth and nail to make sure those kids bullies don’t come into that classroom. they’re loud and shout and shouldn’t really be in there but no one has to know and she certainly won’t be telling them to leave any time soon.
Physics teacher Magneto is very specific to my highschool experience I’ll be honest. I had a physics teacher who was an actual Dr with a PHD and he hated being there. His classroom has (well, had since the building was knocked down about 5 years ago now) this one cabinet that was never fully shut, it was always open just about an inch or two, and he’d stand with his foot hovering just above it and then slam down on it whenever we got too loud so the noise would shut us up. That’s very magneto coded. Erik Lehnsherr would purposefully make the cabinet always a little open so he can do that.
Biology teacher morph is just a funny concept, a person whose physical form and change and morph into just about anything. They are considered one of the “fun” teachers, you could easily convince them to let you watch a movie all class as long as it was biology centred, but with classics like Osmosis Jones, you’re not stuck watching a documentary about animals giving birth.
Chemistry teacher Storm does not fuck about with children’s education. She is not strict by any means whatsoever, she just will not bend to someone saying they want to watch a film or should do a practical instead of theory. She has a set curriculum. She knows what she will be doing by the first week of the summer holidays and already has the room set up all pretty and organised.
Geography teacher Scott has the unfortunate job of telling his students that, they just won’t be looking at memorising country flags and politics. But hey!! Rocks are cool!! Beach shores are cool! Lake formations are cool! He’s the vice principal and designated nerd teacher. He once beat the elite four for a student on their copy of Pokémon Red because the student promised they’d do well in their midterms. Yes, he was in his 30s when the game came out, he doesn’t care.
History teacher Logan is a walking fun facts book. He’s exhausted, goes on smoke breaks on every gap of time he has, dislikes his job and will randomly get passionate about one specific topic, and will then dedicate his next 4 classes to that topic. Having been through a lot of modern history with personal experiences, he’s able to bring a lot of souvenirs to show his classes. Bullets, helmets, clothes he once wore hundreds of years ago, his personal memories of basic inventions like the vaccine.
PE (physical education) teacher Rogue is full of fun sports games, you can join any kind of sports team you can imagine and if you ask nicely enough, she’ll put Just Dance on a projector in the sports hall so you can just play that instead of actually play an actual sport. As long as you leave her class exhausted and without time to have a shower before your next class then she’s succeeded in making whoever your next teacher is absolutely miserable (bonus points if it’s Logan with his enhanced sense of smell).
Art teacher jubilee does believe that there is a right way to critique art. And she can be a little in your face about it. She does think you can have wrong opinions especially when it comes to your own art. If she overhears you saying you didn’t something wrong, she’ll scream into a megaphone “adapt, improvise, overcome!”. There are no mistakes! She’s eccentric, bubbly, creative and brilliant, the only one suited for the job.
It wouldn’t be a school without budget cuts. That’s why Nightcrawler is both the languages and religions teacher and he’s beloved at both. He comes up with roleplay scenarios the students can play to help learn their chosen languages, he has varied religious texts in his room and when he says to the students “I’ll pray for toy during exam season” he’s not actually joking.
(I forgot about Hank I’m actually going to cry he’s one of my favourites and I forgot about him. He’ll be in pt two or smth.)

The moment San asked to join you and his little princess to the doctor you knew it was over.
San was the one holding your hand while you gave birth, crying his eyes out. After calming down while his daughter was getting her check-up, the moment he laid eyes on her again he was back to crying a waterfall. The first time she got scared or hurt he cried. It slowly seemed to you that your husband was crying more than your two-month-old.
"Are you sure you want to come inside with us Sannie?" Looking over at him, his hair was growing a bit longer again since the birth of your princess, not having had time to properly get it cut or dyed, he also said he was scared of dyeing it in case it could affect his baby. Your hand was softly playing with the locks on his nape while watching him hug the two-month-old to his chest. "Huh? Of course! Papa has to be there for his little princess!" Noding you send him a soft smile, knowing fully well you and his little princes would be the ones to comfort him.
Just a week ago she had to pat his tears away when he started crying after she got scared by a barking dog in the park.
Looking up when your name was called, grabbing your bag, and following the doctor inside, San following you with little Eunhee on his arm as you two sit down in front of the doctor. Talking to him a bit about how your daughter is doing, how she has developed well till now. The little princess was looking happily at her father right now pulling his face into funny grimaces. That is until the doctor gets up and walks over to some drawers, pulling out a syringe and the vaccine she was about to get.
Her eyes are still on her father, as San now gets wide eyes while watching the doctor search everything together for the shot. Already noticing his trembling lower lip as the hug on his daughter grows slightly stronger. "Sannie should I hold her?" Offering but quickly being rejected when he shakes his head no. A sigh leaves your lips when the doctor approaches the three of you now, asking for you to push the clothes out of the way, as he notices your husband in visible distress.
"Just act as if this was nothing bad, she probably won't even notice it then." But upon raising his eyes to the father, he sighs. San now had tears streaming down his face, hugging his daughter tight to his chest. The doctor looks over to you for a quick check if this is normal, making you nod slowly. Reaching over you softly wipe away Sans tears but new ones continued to run. "Sannie it's fine, it's just a little prick, she will be alright." Your hand now moving on to your daughter, already confused watching her dad and now you.
Your hand softly tickles her cheek now making her giggle softly, giving the doctor a nod now to give her the shot. She didn't even flinch as you cooed at her, pressing little kisses to her face. Meanwhile, San let out a sob when he saw the needle pierce his poor baby's thigh, the tears now streaming stronger than before. The doctor puts a little bandaid with unicorns over it, before stepping away. San immediately turns his daughter around hugging her to his chest. "It's okay baby, Sannie is here.. Papa is.. here.." He was sobbing and hiccuping while the doctor now explained to you to make sure not to grab that spot for a few days and to cool the area if it got red or hot. After handing him the vaccine pass to put it in, you stand up followed by San who was still clutching the two-month-old to his chest. The sobbing quieted down to soft silent tears coming out of his eyes.
After leaving the room, you make a quick new appointment at the front desk, some mothers watching your husband and cooeing at him softly of how he was softly crying and holding his daughter. Rolling your eyes slightly, taking hold of Sans's other hand now that is not cradling his daughter as you lead him out of the doctor's office.
"Look at the little princess! Uncle Wooyoung is so proud of you! Not so much of your dad though." Wooyoung was holding Eunhee up in the air making her giggle, before looking at San, whose face was still red, puffy, and tear-stained. "Seriously why do you always cry, you cry more than your daughter and she's two months old." Wooyoung sits down opposite of you, Eunhee on his lap looking around the room and trying to grab the fork on the table, Wooyoung quickly moves it further away and instead gives her one of the toys lying on the table.
"Get kids yourself and then you'll know." Snatching Eunhee away from Wooyoung now, Seonghwa softly cradles her against him, pressing a kiss to her head, before sitting down with Hongjoong, they just arrived and now only Yunho and Mingi were missing. "Yeah!" Agrees San, making you side-eye him. "Sannie he's right though, you cry over everything involving Eunhee, what will you do when she gets a boyfriend?" His eyes grow wide as he looks at the baby on Seonghwas's lap, currently being entertained by some finger play from Hongjoong. "No! She won't ever! She'll stay Papa's little princess.." Tears welling up in his eyes now, here we go again.
"Sannie come here.." Softly pulling him over to you, you press a soft kiss to his lips, before pulling his head onto your chest. "She will always be our little princess of course and till she grows up it will be a long time.." Your hand was softly moving through his soft hair, while some tears escaped his eyes. It was charming of how attached and emotional he got to and over his daughter.
"WHERE IS MY FAVORITE CHILD?!" Mingis booming voice announces his entrance, the little girl immediately making grabby hands to the two giants. She definitely had favorites among her uncles, another thing San didn't like.

Hey lovely, how are you?
I’m not sure if I should be answering this through here, but here we go
I had already read that lil’ drabble and it’s perfect!!! Please don’t get me wrong, I really love it, but I was thinking of something a little different.
Maybe reader has to get a vaccine (because she was stalling to do it) and when the boys find out they were like “you need to get it, it’s for your health” and reader goes like “fine”. Well, it wasn’t fine. When reader finally realizes what’s happening she turns into this sobbing mess and it just breaks the boys hearts 💔
I know this is kinda specific, sorry. It’s what always happens to me when I go get vaccinated and I always end up crying more than I thought I would.
It’s totally fine if you don’t want to do it, though! Also, sorry if some terms were wrong, english is not my first language lol
Anyways, love you and love your work!! 🫶
Thanks for explaining babe, and for requesting <3
cw: needle, also I have once again written myself into an inaccurate emt situation and am once again asking for your feigned oversight of the erroneousness. Thank you mwah!
emt!marauders x fem!reader ♡ 1.2k words
You’re being quiet. James keeps trying to pick up conversation, but you won’t engage for more than a few words and a terse smile before falling silent again. They’ve all picked up on it. From the driver’s seat, Remus keeps casting scrutinous glances at you in the rear view mirror. James has given up on trying to get you to talk and is just grateful you’re letting him be near you, his hand on your leg while you stare out the window.
It’s obvious you’re upset. You like being told what to do as much as the next person, and when they’d found out you’d been avoiding going to get your vaccine they’d been more than a little bossy. Though he’d been as insistent as the other two that it was important to get done, James had honestly felt a bit sorry for you; Remus had decided you were going the next morning before you could get a word in, which would have been next to impossible anyways with the tirade Sirius had embarked on.
James feels a bit sorry for you now, too, when he and Remus are trying to go along with your wishes and keep quiet and Sirius is, quite naturally, goading you.
“You don’t have to be mad at us, baby,” he says, fully turned around in the passenger seat to give you his poutiest look. “We’re all on the same team here, yeah?”
“I’m not mad,” you say to the window.
“I get that you’re not needles’ number one fan, but you know how important this is. We just want you to be healthy.”
You shift in your seat, crossing your legs so James’ hand falls away from you. It stings a little. “Can we not talk about it?”
“Sure, dove.” Remus’ eyes are on you in the rear view mirror again, his hand reaching across the console to cover Sirius’ knee warningly. “We don’t have to talk about it.”
You’re quiet the rest of the drive. James is used to being around people that are stewing (years of friendship with Remus and Sirius will accustom one to that), but it makes him fidgety to think you’re angry with him. He really wants to reach for your hand. You’re too stiff to make him confident you’ll take it.
But when you enter the curtained-off room and don’t go to hop up on the table, you don’t reject the helping hand he offers you to get up. You don’t let go.
Remus leaves to prepare your vaccine, and you don’t seem any more inclined to talk than you had been in the car. James decides to hop up on the table beside you, putting an arm around your shoulders when you seem amenable to it, and Sirius leans against the desk, thwacking a pen in a lazy rhythm. You feel tense under his arm.
James is beginning to suspect you’re not actually angry.
“You okay, angel?” he asks gently.
“Fine,” you say, clipped. It’s the same response you’d given when they’d strong-armed you into this appointment. He’s not sure if he believes you anymore.
James is suddenly glad he came. Though Remus and Sirius had to come in for their shift and will be staying after, he only tagged along because he wanted (as always) to be wherever the three of you are. Now that he has an inkling of how you’re feeling, James is glad he’ll be with you to drive you home, look after you in case you have any side effects, and generally help you relax after this is done. Right now, you seem to be winding tighter by the minute.
Remus comes back in, and James looks over to find your bottom lip trapped cruelly between your teeth. Your expression looks almost pained.
“Honey…” he murmurs.
Remus and Sirius look up in alarm as your eyes line with silver.
“Hey, baby, it’s okay.” Sirius pushes off from the desk, sitting on your other side and winding an arm around your waist. “You’re fine, this’ll only take a second.”
You give a little sob, reality setting in. James sees the surprise and anguish he’s feeling reflected on Sirius’ face as the other boy kisses above your eyebrow.
Remus’ expression is carefully calm as he approaches, holding up an antiseptic wipe like a symbol of peace. “Just breathe,” he says, voice soft and slow as he pushes up your sleeve. You watch his every move, every one of the muscles beneath James’ hand tense. “You’ve got nothing to worry about. In just a little bit we’ll be sending you home with Jamie, yeah?”
He picks up the vaccine, and you suck in a breath, pressing into James’ side to get away from it. “Wait wait wait,” you say in a rush, voice tipping up with panic as tears spill over your waterline. James' heart veritably shatters. He feels it happening in his chest, but they’ve all dealt with patients like this before. Waiting doesn’t help anything.
“You’re fine,” Sirius promises you, helping Remus to hold your arm still while James shields your vision with his hand. “Don’t look, you’re okay.”
James doesn’t watch the needle go in, but he hears your reaction, a wet inhale that catches in your throat followed by a torturous whimpering sound.
He presses a kiss to your hair, whispering a quick, “You’re good, lovie.”
Remus hums in quiet agreement. A moment later he’s setting the syringe back down on his tray, replacing the spot with a plaster. James lets his hand drop, and Sirius cheers as Remus rubs small, sympathetic circles over the spot with his thumb.
“You did it, gorgeous!” He pecks you on the cheek, mindless of its dampness. “You’re done.”
Another tiny sob breaks out of you, and Remus’ brow creases pityingly. He touches his lips gently over the plaster on your arm. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I didn’t realize quite how nervous you were.”
You sniffle. “It’s okay,” you say. Your voice comes out a bit frayed, and both James and Sirius coo in sympathy.
“My poor girl,” the latter whines. He tugs you away from James’ hold, clearly fed up with not doing his fair share for your physical comfort. “I thought you were just peeved with us. I didn’t know they made you that freaked, sweetness. You did amazing.”
“You really did so well.” James thumbs under your lashes, collecting water on his thumbnail. “You were so brave.”
“Don’t patronize me,” you mumble, growing sullen again.
“We’re not, dovey, we’re not.” Remus rubs up and down on your arm placatingly. At this rate, James thinks, you won’t have any muscle pain at all. “This is more difficult for some people than others. It seems like it's really difficult for you, and I’m proud of you for getting through it. Alright?”
He’s looking at you intently, waiting for you to confirm you understand. You go a bit shy under his gaze. “Okay,” you acquiesce softly.
“Good.” Remus kisses your forehead. “You’re all done here, so you two can head home. If you start to feel ill or odd at all say something to Jamie, alright?”
“I’ve got her,” James reassures them both, hopping down from the table. Sirius holds you still a moment longer, kissing the same spot Remus had before letting you go. You slot under James' arm like you always do, like it’s where you’re meant to be. “We’ll text you pictures of all the ice cream we eat and films we watch while you’re working.”
“Fuck off,” Sirius laughs. It catches, and you chuckle softly. The sound makes all three of them breathe a sigh of relief.
James squeezes you with his arm around your shoulders as he walks you out.
