Favorite Connie headcanon?

My favorite headcanons shifts to which one every now and then, recently it's design-wise!

I really like the headcanon that Connie's hair gained a more spiky/sharper silhouette as she got older. I make her eyebrows angular too to push it.

It's not something I draw her in all the time, but that's my headcanon.

Someone in the discord said you don’t think Haymitch and Lenore Dove would have lasted because of power imbalances? Can you explain that?

First - I am a queen of fluff and I cannot figure out a universe or set of decisions that allows Lenore Dove to live long after Haymitch’s games - I keep thinking that ‘I know this would have happened anyway’ also applies to Lenore Dove’s death as well.

But for a moment, looking beyond that:

Idk if ‘power imbalance’ is the right phrase - but to me it felt like Lenore Dove didn’t see Haymitch as an equal… which I think clashes with SC intentions; she goes out of her way to have Haymitch tell us that Lenore Dove’s not acting superior… and yet there’s something about the way she explains things slowly to him and pushes her case on the morning of the reaping, despite him not wanting to talk about it. Something about him feeling like ‘maybe she’s just too smart for me’ and the way it feels like she’s testing him to figure out the use of his gift. Not to mention - the secrets she doesn’t share with him (but that Maysilee knows about)…

Which brings me to a small aside: I remember feeling like there was more passion in Lenore Dove’s feelings towards Maysilee than towards Haymitch. And the simmering resentment over Maysilee knowing her secret… idk - that dynamic compels me more honestly.

But I digress…

It all just leaves me with the impression that Haymitch would never be enough for Lenore Dove… He has a mother and brother (and her) to think about and because of them, he can’t afford to be as rebellious (and reckless) as she is (or as she wants him to be.)

Meanwhile, the first time he is - it’s in defense of her and it the thing that winds up sending him on the journey that ends in the destruction of all the things he had been staying in line to protect in the first place…

‘Love you like all-fire’ is apt because all-fire is intense and extreme… and also not sustainable in the long run.

Idk - maybe I’ll feel differently upon a reread, but these are the feelings I’m left with at present

Have you ever thought about doing established relationship fics where they’re dating and getting into whatever plotline you decide? Enemies to lovers is canon and we’ve seen impeccable exes to lovers and friends to lovers from you already but maybe an established relationship kind of thing?

Fun fact about me even though I enjoy the getting together process, established relationships are my fav to write :) So yes I'm sure at one point I'll write gelphie as an established relationship from the start

What if a multi-verse type thing were to happen how would the characters react to variants of each other?

Like Batman meeting a villain version of joker?

And what if Jo were to met a version of Eddie like arkham games riddler or zero year riddler how would that play out? What would his reaction be? Or if he were to met paul dano’s riddler how would that go?

And to switch it if Eddie were to met a variant of Jo like for arkham games Jo would he be terrified of him?

how would batman react to his arkham game counterpart or Eddie react to his?

Sorry i’m aware this is weird and silly I just thought of this and was curious about what the reactions would be to a scenario like this and it could be any versions of the characters I was just saying ones for examples.

To me, I feel that Batman would be thrown off meeting BTAS Joker, since he doesn't immediately seem dangerous, and he's used to his Joker just being fun and a trickster, but not malicious. BTAS Joker would be excited by meeting a version of the Batman who's nicer to him, although I ultimately see Batman apprehending Joker and turning him over to the police.

With Arkham Joker, I don't think Batman would need to pause to consider if he was a good version. Unfortunately for Batman, this version of the Joker has been at this for a lot longer than he has, so I imagine he'd struggle to really fight him at all, leading to Joker just toying with him.

I think there are very few Riddlers our Jonathan would tolerate, much less like at all. Arkhamverse, especially Arkham Knight Riddler he could even stand for him to open his mouth. Maybe he could tolerate Orgins more since it was before his mind fell apart. Otherwise, he just couldn't deal with him for too long. Though I think if he needed to work with him for whatever reason he could as long as he duct taped his mouth.

I don't know much about Zero Year Riddler, but from what I understand the term "douchebag" describes him quite well. Jonathan would hate his guts. I think Zero Year would remind him too much of people in his past.

I don't feel like I got enough information from The Batman 2022 about the Riddler to really understand his personality. I haven't read the comics associated with him so it's a little harder to say how Jonathan would react. I don't think he'd necessarily hate him but he wouldn't like him. He'd rather not want to get involved with him.

Arkham Knight Scarecrow is a master of manipulation, based on the tape where he convinces Edward to work with him I imagine he could do something similar with our Ed. Ed I think would be terrified of him but that's likely more ammunition for AK Jonathan to manipulate him with. He couldn't really stand a chance against him. Though Ed has a very strong moral compass it's easily warped.

I can't imagine most Riddlers liking each other either. Even if they get along it's likely they'd still fight. I imagine both Eds would think the other is a moron and would fight over who's smarter than the other.

With any version of Batman meeting himself I have two main thoughts: one, they'd be able to work really well together because they think the same way, and two: they'd also hate being around another version of themselves, considering the level of self-loathing that they feel. Being able to see themselves face to face would only amplify that, especially with our Batman and Arkham Batman, since ours is fresh and more hopeful, while the other is bitter, more aggressive, and ready to end his own life. I'm not even a shipper but I did see a post (and several tbh) about Mumbo's death in wild life being turned into Mumbo being a rebound/replacement for Scar??? It's so weird even as a nonshipper I know Grian and Mumbo have been iconically Like That (and everybody knows it and jokes about it) for years. I'm convinced a chunk of this fanbase just skips through video

I will say that I'm not fully sure why this was sent to me, but yeah, I've seen it too. Gonna take off the shipping goggles for a hot sec.

Mumbo's treatment within fandom is rather... odd, in my opinion. He gets pushed to the side a lot, he's treated as if he's pathetic (which yes, Ik that the "wet cat" thing is a joke, but when he's consistently portrayed as pathetic you start to wonder), he's treated as a replacement/rebound for Scar, Grian and his interactions are spun into being about Desert Duo (yes, I've seen this happen multiple times, its weird), disloyal, completely incompetent, and when he died he was immediately talked about as "The new canary".

1) That was Jimmy's curse, why are you trying to apply it to someone else who doesn't fit?

2) No, Mumbo wasn't the first one out when the curse was first broken, that was Lizzie

Mumbo and Grian's friendship is also treated as Not As Important As Desert Duo™️. Grian being distraught about Mumbo's death? Nah, let's focus on Desert Duo being friends instead. Grian bringing Mumbo (and Skizz) back to life? Let's focus on the fact that Scar and Grian flew around together (which is cute don't get me wrong). Mumbo killing Grian after being instructed to do so? Let's talk about how this a Desert Duo parallel.

Hell, Grian and Mumbo's friendship isn't even the biggest "victim" of being twisted as only existing to further the Desert Duo narrative. The friendship that has been most affected by it (within fandom ofc), is Grian and BigB's friendship.

Which, is even odder to me. Grian and BigB have known each other for ages, Grian went and looked for BigB himself (because He Wanted To Be Secret Soulmates), Grian said in 3rd life that he didn't want to kill BigB, and the two of them have known each other for long as hell and have even travelled to Sweden together irl (wayback in like 2017).

There's a lot to say about the fandom's treatment of BigB but yeah, not what this post is about.

It's very difficult to interact with fandom content within both the Life Series and Hermitcraft nowadays. You can't escape Desert Duo or Scarian, even if you try. A lot of the time another ship tag, duo tag, or character tag ends up clogged with Desert Duo/Scarian stuff, and if you block the tag it gets filled with blacked out post saying "This post contains Scarian, do you want to see it anyway?" (<can't remember the exact wording), and often UNTAGGED Scarian/Desert Duo posts pop up in other tags, often tagged with another ship that has nothing to do with the post (<Seen this happen a few times in the Grumbo tag). The Scaridarity tag is filled with Scarian posts, which makes it hella annoying to go through/follow that tag.

And yes. Grian and Mumbo have been a duo since... 2017? 2018? Somewhere around there. They're genuinely close as all hell, having gone on a roadtrip together, and having travelled to Sweden together. They both put references to each other in their videos all the time, they have a robot son named after their (at the time) duo/ship name, and in the life series they've been on a team 2/3 times + they always base closely on Hermitcraft (more than once they've linked their bases, more than once they've had a messaging system).

But nowadays that's largely ignored/pushed to the side, and for a little while there was this odd idea about a "Grumbo divorce".

Which, yes I know it was a joke, but also...what???

On the Hermitcraft server, the Hermits doesn't interact all the time. It's literary called /Hermit/-craft. Often, this is because the Hermits are busy with their own projects, things irl, or they just don't interact. This doesn't mean that a ship is getting "divorced" or anything. Hell, it's a ship. The shipping shouldn't be your main focus when watching a video. The shipping is just something for fun.

So yeah, it was weird to see the "Grumbo divorce" jokes be made, when they're still very close, and Are Still Like That™️ about each other.

There's also this odd thing I've noticed within the fandom, where people can't let Grian and Scar do things on their own without twisting it into Scarian.

No, I promise that in the escape room video that Scar wasn't in, Grian didn't think at all about the fandom's headcanon that Scar is a vex.

All this being said, I also have to say that:

I don't hate Scarian. Does it frustrate me? Yes! Very much so.

But that's because of the fandom. I am a Scarian shipper, I enjoy Scarian, and I enjoy Desert Duo a lot. The fandom has made that experience a lot less enjoyable, because of the weird treatment of other people, because you can't escape it even if you try, because everything gets twisted into Scarian/Desert Duo all the time.

It's frustrating, because it's barely the Hermitcraft or the life series fandom anymore, it's basically the Scarian fandom.

Which, fine, I get it. Its the biggest ship, and I understand the enjoyment of it, nothing wrong with that.

But there's other people on both servers, other duos, other teams, and I promise you everything isn't about Scarian all the time.

I think that Scarian shippers/Desert Duo enjoyers mainly watch Scar's videos, with shipping goggles already on, and then they watch Grian's. They read into things that genuinely doesn't matter, all to further the narrative of Scarian. (I'm not saying everyone does this, or that they do it on purpose, but it comes across as such.)

I can't say that I haven't read too much into something because of a ship, hell, I've been here for Mumbo and Grian as a duo since before the duo even existed.

But to me it feels as if it's going a tad bit too far now.

I keep seeing more and more people get frustrated and tired of Scarian/Scarians, and I get it entirely. I see this happen from multiple corners, from multiple people.

Also, Grian and Mumbo are a duo to such an extent that the Hermits comment and joke about it, hell, even non-Hermits do that. I mean Tommyinnit straight up said "You (Grian) and Mumbo come as a pair".

I'd also like to mention the odd treatment of Grumboers from Scarian. Yes, I know that some Grumbo shippers have entered the Scarian tag just to hate on it, don't do that. Just... genuinely, don't do that, what the hell are you even doing actually.

But when Scar said that people were "Annoyed with him and Grian teaming together all the time" (Which they haven't done. They've interacted a lot, which ain't surprising. They're p good friends), there was an odd wave of posts I saw that blamed Grumboers?

I assure you, that whole thing wasn't our fault. People who've complained about that have done so in the YouTube comments, on reddit, and ofc some have done so on twitter (which is just an awful cesspool of negativity, which is why I don't use it).

It's not our fault. A lot of Grumbo shippers are also Desert Duo enjoyers/Scarian shippers. I mean, I am.

There's also this odd narrative that "Grumbo shippers never experienced this much hate when Grumbo was the biggest ship"

Which is just blatantly false.

In the past, people got hate and death threats for shipping. Didn't matter what you shipped, you got hate for it.

At the time, there was a bunch of posts, much more negatively charged than this one, where people went "This isn't the Mumbo and Grian fandom, stop treating it as such." There were a lot of posts about how Grumboers were annoying as all hell, and how we clogged tags. There were straight up hate posts being spread, often by the majority of the fandom.

Shipping with in the Hermitcraft fandom wasn't accepted at all, and Zombiecleo got bullied of off tumblr for saying that she didn't care if people were engaging in shipping.

I'm glad that shipping is accepted now, because by god it was an awful time, but don't say that "Grumbo shippers never had it this bad". We had it a lot worse. Shippers as a whole had it a lot worse. Don't pretend like it didn't happen, and don't try to act as if it's only Scarian shippers that have been hated.

In all honesty, I'm just tired of all of this. Like really tired. I'm tired of seeing everything get twisted into Scarian/Desert Duo, I'm tired of the ignorance of the fandom's past, and I'm tired of seeing hate aimed at any ship/shippers

But I do think that its time to leave the desert. It's not fun to be in the fandom anymore due to the behaviour. Sure, keep shipping, keep having fun. But for God's sake please stay in your lane, tag your things properly, and please stop trying to force Scarian/Desert Duo upon everyone.

I don't think that the hate is deserved, but everything isn't about Desert Duo.

This is most likely the only time I'll make a post like this, and I'm only making it because I'm finally fed up and tired.

Hares, as you may already know if you've been following my better half @broncoburro or @forevergoldgame (if you're following neither, you're missing huge amounts of context for the setting!), are nothing like the hares of the real world. They are massive leporids from Northern Vestur and one of the few meurian animals remaining after a historic event known as the Great Hunt where humans wiped out most of the planet's remaining meurian species in order to harvest their meur for relics about 350~ish years ago. They are obligate carnivores and known to hunt humans when the opportunity arises.

The baku is a large, lumbering omnivore with a similar ecological niche somewhere between a panda and a regular bear. They're a rare species, endemic to a single far-flung region of the world, having only just barely escaped extinction. See, while the Great Hunt was headed and funded by the Tri-Kingdom, its reach spanned the entire known world - but the further from Vestur it travelled, the less discriminatory the hunts became. The local peoples who were paid to hunt on the Tri-Kingdom's behalf had little idea of what meur was and what meurian animals were actually useful, leading to mass to mass culling of "useless" meur-touched animals like the baku, whose unusual sleep-inducing abilities cannot be wielded by humans. Regardless of their uselessness, the damage had been done to the species, and only the mundane offshoot survives - though rumors persist about meurian baku.

Sphinxes are scavengers that can be found across the deserts and savannas of the mainland. Unlike their meurian cousin, the manticore, they never evolved meurian flame breath, and their 'stinger' is no more than a vestigial sickle buried beneath the fur of their flowing tails. Instead, they specialized further into human mimicry, using their ability to copy human speech to hunt domesticated animals, naive children, and drunkards.

Now you might be thinking: "why would a teenage girl want to own any of these as pets? None of these sound like animals that should be pets." Well, first off: you'd be hard pressed to find a young girl that doesn't want a wolf or a tiger as a pet, that's just how they are, c'mon.

Second, there are three primary reasons Rhea thinks this is a more realistic idea than it is:

Exotic "pet" owners among the upper class: While exotic pet ownership isn't big in Vestur as a whole, it has a notable presence among the Southern upper class, both noble and common. Rhea is the duchess of the Southern Kingdom so she is well aware of every instance of somebody paying excessive amounts of guilder to import something they shouldn't and stick it in their courtyard. As I've mentioned before, this is a sin Ancha is guilty of, having gotten swept up in a past "teacup baku" craze/scam some 4 decades ago. Unlike her peers, however, she kept her baku, Fig, even after he outgrew his alleged "adult size" of 1'9" at the withers. Others culled theirs once they became large enough to cause mass property damage. Ancha knows Fig is a massive, terrifying wild animal and does not recommend anyone repeat her mistake, but being raised in captivity he cannot be returned to the wild and so she's committed to caring for him for as long of his estimated 70~ish year lifespan that she's here for.

Haretouched Northerners: The "haretouched" is a strange phenomenon that exists in the North. Now, we haven't posted a formal explanation of what exactly being haretouched means yet - I'll save that explanation for Dan to write at a later date. In the meantime, to very briefly summarize what it means: occasionally, a hare will bond with a specific human. Those who have bonded to a hare are said to be "haretouched" - or more bluntly, cursed. The haretouched are treated as pariahs by broader society, though they are begrudgingly tolerated in the North itself and destigmatized by Northern nomad clans. While Northern nobility has done its best to keep the haretouched out of their bloodlines (save for the Lord of the Nomads, who is seldom acknolwedged, much less counted), occasionally a fluke will occur regardless and you end up with someone like Quincy or Lamonte. Rhea, of course, is just a Southern bystander who thinks the idea of having a murder-bunny for a friend would kick ass.

Captive beasts performing in circuses: Self-explanatory. Sphinxes especially are a popular choice for exploitative entertainment because of their mimicry abilities, and are often trained to have "conversations" or "sing."

I’ve answered energon questions before, so I’ll answer your “substance” question! I’m assuming you’re talking about drugs…

I enjoy a dose of nitrous oxide a couple times a week! It’s perfectly safe and legal, so don’t worry about that. All it does is make us feel light, relaxed, and a bit loopy. We just spray some into one of our vents and that’s it! Once it’s all circulated out of our frames we feel normal again.

Just don’t do it when internal cooling fans are on or are about to be on…

the hunger games fandom has a lot of issues in large part because people engage with it through a lens of nostalgia and reliving their adolescence/childhoods, instead of actually engaging with it through a critical + political lens like they claim to. also the fallout from jkr's bigotry has affected a lot of popular YA series fandoms and their parasocial relationships with the authors, but especially so with suzanne, which just adds to the collective "head in the sand" feeling the thg fandom has
