And imagine, Clarisse, Will, Travis and Conner, Pollux, Katie and Annabeth wake up and they are surrounded not only by those who should be in the underworld and what they lost in the first war, but they are also told that the child who defeated the Minotaur is in the infirmary.

Ethan Nakamura wakes up in a crowded cabin number 11, in a familiar sleeping bag on a familiar floor. Next to him, a voice too similar to Mitchell Harris is talking about a child who appeared only yesterday and has already defeated the minotaur.

Percy Jackson wakes up on the sheets that have become so familiar, and the cold of the underworld, which has already seeped into his bones, is rapidly disappearing. Ethan's outstretched hand and Charon's rocking boat on the waters of Styx are no longer there.

What will happen next?

Ooh that's hard, I could see a lot of different things happening because in this Percy died, he was dead and gone. That is absolutely going to do horrible horrible things to everyone around him, and of course himself.

See here's the thing about Percy, he's never activity searching for death, but as long as his friends, his family are safe he doesn't need to make it out alive. And in this it worked. He sacrificed himself, camp won. He doesn't see a problem with this, but his friends...

None of them are going to let him out of their sight because at this point he is no longer their fearless leader, untouchable, unstoppable, practically on the same level as the gods themselves. Percy died, they watched the light go out of his eyes, burned his shroud. He was their friend, and no more a god than the rest of them.

I could see Annabeth and Clarisse especially being all over him, and refusing to let Luke go anywhere near him. Which is very strange to anyone else that is looking in. This random kid somehow managed to unite these two very different people who as a rule are at each other's throat.

Ethan's a hard one, I have to admit I haven't played around very much with his character. But I know he's bitter, bitter at the gods, bitter at his mom even though he adores her more than he should. To have to do it all over again? I'm not sure what he would chose, how he would be able to look at such an unscarred version of Percy.

(And yet, isn't ironic that in fact Percy is more messed up than Ethan will ever know. Because he was dead long before Percy fell into the darkness that even the eldest of the gods feared. The boy he was when Ethan died for him no longer exists, drowned in sulfur and poison and the need to survive.)

It's perfect! Thank you so much @awesome-shoes-with-wings. I adore the lighting around Will's chest. It really does make it seem like he's burning himself up from the inside out I also adore ypur design for both the characters. Will looks so small and you can feel how close to death Connor is!!

This is the best time travel fic I've read in any fandom I've been in, and I love a good time travel fic. This one takes a new spin on the trope, giving it new life in so many good ways!

     “I was alone for a long time, until you showed up.” He exhales slowly to get the rest of the smoke out, watching it float away in the air. The moon was full, he notes, leaning against the open window, providing light in what would otherwise be the pitch black interior to the treehouse. He thinks it added to the calm vibe they had between the two of them. Silence that had gone unbroken until he spoke up. There was no real reason they were up here. Larry wanted to get away from the world. Sal had decided to join in. The longer the silence drew out, the deeper in his thoughts he got.

“There were.. others.. but they weren’t really there, you know? No one ever believed the crazy shit I spout out. Never believed that I saw something like a murder in the building. Then in you come, with no hesitation, joining on my stupid plan. Thought it was too good to be true at first. Then you.. stuck around.” He speaks so plainly, pausing to stick the cigarette in his mouth once more. It was difficult to tell whether he was talking to Sal directly or he was just rambling. But there was no denying the fondness in those memories as he goes on.

     “You’ve got a lot of people who need you, y’know? Maybe not a whole city’s worth.. but they’re there. There’s just something about you. Something that drains all our fear away and lets us do what needs to be done. Pure tunnel vision, you right in the middle believing in us until the end. And sometimes that’s all we need to keep going.” 

     He stirs finally, turning his head to properly look at Sal. His expression was incredibly melancholy at first, taking a few blinks before his carefree smile returns to his face. “Don’t know if I’m makin’ any sense here. Point is; I owe you. A lot. If things ever go bad, I wanna help you back. Protect you from anything that comes and finds you.”

Thanks for your reply :D And oh, I should have clarified this, but I'd like to see what Percy's death and his secret relationship with Ethan (who died and also returned to the past) would look like in your fanfiction.

Now I want to send you what I came up with today.

The first thing they do when they realize where they are and that it's most likely their Percy, and even if it's not, it's just Percy, the Percy they've lost, they run to the infirmary, some even barefoot. Everyone stares at them in incomprehension and tries to ask, but they are only pushed away. Clarisse, Will, Travis and Conner, Pollux, Katie and Annabeth can't see beyond their goal of getting to Percy. As soon as possible.

What would their reunion scene look like in your opinion?

P.S. - you can decide for yourself whether to add Ethan or not.

I have to admit I'm a little confused by your request, hopefully this answers it! If not, feel free to ask more clarifying questions.

So for Percy and Ethan's relationship, the real question here is how long does it take for them to realize the other has traveled back in time? Capture the Flag is an easy answer for Ethan obviously Percy is not the same 12 year old he was the last time around. But Percy's harder because the question here is... Is he looking? Does he expect Ethan to come back? The answer to this is probably no, just because Ethan was already dead. Maybe Percy desperately wishes that it wasn't the case, but he can't stop and mourn for too long. That journey leads to madness, utter madness. So for Percy I would say that it takes him at least until after he gets back from the quest to figure out what's up with Ethan.

whether or not Ethan joins up with the rest of the time travelers or stays a loner is an interesting question. I doubt the time travelers would be very open to him, even if he was in a relationship with Percy he was still on the wrong side of the war.

For the reunion, it would be messy, very messy. The time travelers actions have now put them in a tough position where a bunch of people know something is off with these people. Percy at this point also isn't awake fully, drifting in and out of conscienceness. I think once the time travelers have seen Percy with their own eyes rational reason starts to take over and they realize HOLY SHIT we fucked up. And then frantically have to figure out a cover. Especially because at this point Luke is still fully in Kronos's pocket so if he finds out Kronos finds out and they are all fucked.

But, of course after Percy is up and walking around the time travelers basically kidnap him and hug the ever loving daylights out of him. Even Clarisse doesn't bother pretending like she doesn't care, hugging Percy close because it reminds her that he's alive, he's here she didn't fail. Annabeth wouldn't leave his side not even for a moment. Travis tries to play it cool with only a side arm hug, or a shoulder bump, but inside he's near tears. Connor isn't as good at hiding his feelings even if he's trying. the tears are fully pouring and he hesitates because he and Percy weren't really hug level of friends. But also he just needs to hold him for a moment, to feel his heart beat. Pollux and Katie are the calmest, but that might just be because they are the best at staying put together. Katie can't stop smiling, but she hangs back letting others take their time. She knows Percy isn't going away, and something about seeing him moving, talking, living is enough to settle her at least for now. Pollux is also smiling though his is more subdued. He is the best actor out of all of them, the most able to put his feelings aside and play a part. Even if on the inside he can't quite believe this is real.

Just realized I totally forgot about Will. He's there, obsessively checking over Percy's still healing injuries, trying to speed it along, fearful that if he misses something then Percy will crumple and hell lose him again.

YOUR WRITING IS AWESOME AND ok to calm it down a little, i love what you did with ares, because it always bothered me too that he was so brash when logically he shouldnt be!! and he got bewitched by kronos and then they never mention it? (to be fair percy wouldnt care to find out) i love that you included others like will, katie, etc usually i feel like people only focus on percy, annabeth, etc i like that they are part of it and have their own things going on (i am. FASCINATED with will vs apollo cabin and pollux vs castor and mr.d, can i ask, what are these characters/camp in general thinking about the sudden change/closeness between the time travelers and will apollo w/ prophecy start investigating to figure things out?

I'm glad you - and so many other people are enjoying what I did with Ares. I never felt satisfied with the pjo canon interpretation so I decided to give my own little spin on it. Explain why some of these actions were happening

I loved being able to explore all these different perspectives and relationships. Pollux has a special place in my heart now even though I really didn't intend for him to have such a huge role within the fic. His chapters practically wrote themselves!

The short answer is... They haven't really connected it, honestly children make friends within days so a lot of people just assume they've gotten oddly close all of the sudden. Nobody has quite put two and two together that it has something to do with how weird they're acting. It doesn't help that Percy(the only newcomer) is off on a quest so nobody can see the way they look to him for orders, which might raise a few eyebrows. Apollo has not gone through his character development yet so he's just not paying that much attention to his kids besides making sure they're still alive. However Pollux has definitely sparked his interest (which will be revealed in an alternate POV scene im working on right now).
