ranking the karasuno boys :3
Tumblr media
TW: OPINION !! (pls don’t attack me.)
9. asahi azumane
CONTROVERSIAL (so is this entire list) but i just do not really like asahi and i don’t know why. it might be his goatee lmfao, it just makes me uncomfortable i’m so sorry. he’s a total sweetheart and i have NOTHING AGAINST HIM, but i love the other players more.
8. kageyama tobio
i have mixed feelings about kageyama cuz on my first watch i did really like him, but now i could not care less about him. his ranking also might be cuz of how popular he is and me not understanding the hype might have turned into resentment lmao.
7. tsukishima kei
similar situation to kageyama except he actually has me PISSED OFF cuz of how popular he is when he’s SUCH AN ASS. the only reason he’s higher is cuz he’s just a little more fun to watch. honestly you could switch him and tobio on this list and it wouldn’t make a difference. i just don’t care for how rude they are. still fine tho unfortunately :(
6. daichi sawamura
solid character. good captain, good guy, blah blah blah, he’s not that interesting to me. he’s got one of the more boring designs in the show so he never stuck out to me. that lands him around the middle, but he could still hit
5. yamaguchi tadashi
love yamaguchi so much, he’s so cute. hurts to see him standing on the side a lot of the time cuz i just wanna see him get a chance to play :,( he’s adorable and so fucking funny. everyone always forgets how much of a SHIT TALKER he is. he’s so real dude.
4. hinata shoyo
HINATAAA he is the perfect main character for me i absolutely adore him. he’s genuinely hilarious and i cannot get enough of how cute he is. this is the point in the list where it’s obvious what type of characters i like and what i don’t (energetic, funny guys vs. quiet assholes)
3. tanaka ryuunosuke
sooooo fucking funny dude. i could watch an hour of him talking about NOTHING and be entertained. get this man a podcast bro. carries the dub on his back plus he’s FINEEE
2. sugawara koshi
everyone’s first haikyuu crush cuz of how damn charming he is. def the sweet boy every girl has a crush on cuz he’s just so like-able. never met a single person who hates suga cuz he’s just so appealing. my unproblematic king
1. NISHINOYA YUU 👅👅👅
absolutely FELL for this man on my first watch and my love for him NEVERRR went away. he’s my day 1 and my ultimate anime crush dude. i would pick him over anybody. literally the reason i’m a die hard karasuno fan and why i hate the rival characters so much. he is SOOO underrated i can’t. his tags are always dry as hell .
that’s the end! thank you for reading <3 ! who are your top 3 haikyuu characters?

well all rightie then, it’s time to analyse how DGS1 handles grief really well in my opinion
(once again, spoilers for all of DGS1)
(also some spoilers for the original trilogy games) (and a little of DGS2)
okay So my thesis statement here is that Asougi’s character in DGS1 is the vessel through which Ryuunosuke and Susato’s grief is explained. Everything about how they relate to Asougi is their dealing with their grief in a simple message: Loss hits hard, but you have to continue to live and love. Life Goes On, shaping that grief into yourself if you allow it.
We start off with Case 1 as our baseline. The set-up. It’s a routine to show what life is like for Ryuunosuke before tragedy. (Fitting for an AA protagonist to have their baseline of normal being accused of murder.) This case does a really, really good job of setting up Asougi as our friend, our partner, whom we might spend the rest of the game with.
(I mean, the death flag’s kinda obvious if you’re genre-savvy; the mentor must die so that the student may grow into their own. But Asougi’s so likeable! He’s confident, genuine with Ryuunosuke, comfortably teasing, and looks at you with the same eyes as Klavier. What’s not to love? Also that small hint of something deeper is so tantalising that for it to go unresolved is pretty unthinkable.)
It’s important for us to see how much Asougi means to Ryuunosuke, how much the two really are best friends. This set-up is pivotal to what happens next in Case 2: the drop.
The way Ryuunosuke reacts to learning about Asougi’s death is real. He tries to deny it at first, can’t bring himself to believe it. Especially since he’s been accused of the crime! But the moment he sees that photo of Asougi that Sherlock took, that’s where the truth of it hits and he can’t run from it anymore. All he can do is try to push past that biting grief to at least solve his friend’s murder and set things right.
Susato’s own grief is portrayed really well here, too. She’s so angered and clouded by it that she totally ignores the fact that Asougi and Ryuunosuke are best friends and believes Ryuunosuke to be the murderer. Really, she just blames Ryuunosuke because it’s easier that way, since the wound cuts just as deep for her.
What really strikes me, though, is how the whole case isn’t just a one-note misery. Like real life, the two slip into sadness when they remember their dear friend, but they’re still able to joke around. They still get upset or sarcastic or excited. Because, though their grief affects them immensely, the message is that life continues. It can’t just stop for them like it did for their friend; life goes on. Not out of malice, but out of necessity.
Also, the way Sherlock acknowledges their grief is pretty great. That felt hugely validating to me, how he tells them that their mourning is important and how his jovial, joking tone was never properly taking that into account. The way he continues breaking in at the end to lighten the mood, too, is his own genuine way of trying to help, exhausting though he may be. It’s appreciated, at the least, to keep us the players from breaking down into tears as the conclusion rolls with no real satisfaction at the mystery being solved.
That final conversation between Susato and Ryuunosuke, at least, is hugely cathartic to make up for that. It sounds like it should feel rushed, honestly, dealing with the majority of the grieving process in just Case 2, but it doesn’t at all. It seems properly healthy, like the two are doing their best by confiding and taking comfort in one another in order to celebrate Asougi’s goals, to keep going where he can’t. Ryuunosuke and Susato both form their resolve here to continue to live, not just for Asougi, but for themselves as well. For life’s sake.
Because, again, life goes on.
(A brief tangent: Seeing the contrast of this story versus the original trilogy is also a really neat sort of view into Shu Takumi’s growth as a writer. Or the AA series’ growth as a whole. How Edgeworth handled his grief by never really acknowledging it in AA1, how he basically ran away from it by refusing to live as a sort of punishment against himself, is really sad. Then Phoenix handling his grief in JFA by turning to anger and resentment is just as heartbreaking. Phoenix disavows himself from it, trying to spare himself the pain by denying it, which only hurt him more and he had to have everyone around him break him out of that awful mindset. Then in T&T it’s Godot’s grief which drives the plot, as he turns his anger on Phoenix unjustly. He blames Phoenix for Mia’s death and lashes out at everyone instead of allowing himself the time to properly grieve.
And then DGS1 comes along to say that maybe the answer is just that life goes on and we have healthier ways to reconcile with our grief and it’s just real neat to see!)
In Case 3 and 4, we can see through Ryuunosuke’s discussion with Lord Vortex (/Stronghart) the continuation of his handling this grief. It’s a burden, one Ryuunosuke doesn’t fully understand, but he fervently takes upon himself because we want to live for those we’ve lost. (It is the Wright way, the Naruhodou way, to take on the aspirations of the friends you’ve lost. To mimic their mannerisms, their ambitions, in order to keep them close to your heart.)
(That’s a whole other can of worms I could dive into, honestly, how their decision to give Ryuunosuke all of Phoenix’s poses for the whole ancestor vibe while ALSO making it clear that Ryuunosuke took them from Asougi to begin with, it’s just. It’s good, it’s perfect, it’s the same brand of gay the series is known for and I’m love it.)
You also see, as the trial of Case 3 progresses, how Ryuunosuke is basically just living off of ‘what would Asougi do?’ as Susato coaches him along and it’s fun and bittersweet all the way through. Case 4 is where he gains more confidence in himself, but he still defaults to thinking of Asougi’s unwavering trust in him to help him and every time it’s handled with tenderness and shows just how much Ryuunosuke loved his friend.
And, if you’re like me and take every opportunity to examine Asougi’s badge and present it to Susato (/others), you see how they continue to grow with their grief. It starts off with both of them being unable to say much, still weighed down heavily by Asougi’s loss. Though they are continuing and life goes on, it’s still a wound too fresh to approach and hard for them to properly explain.
By Case 5, though, the two of them are more conversational. They’ve found their words, they’ve mended that wound as much as possible so that life won’t leave without them. It still hurts, of course, but it’s easier to think about. It’s easier to reconcile when they’ve been working hard and making friends and continuing to live. It’s small, but the progression is there and I really appreciate it.
Speaking of Case 5, though, everything about this one, in regards to Asougi, is pure catharsis. It really is like they’re looking their grief right in the face and accepting it as a part of themselves. Ryuunosuke looks back on his friend not just with fondness, but with gratefulness that Asougi could make such a big impact on his life.
(This is similar to the whole Phoenix and Mia thing, I feel, since Phoenix often thought of his mentor with the same sort of tone. At least, I think so. Remarkable how Phoenix’s grief can mirror the finalised version of Ryuunosuke’s with the help of spirit channeling! /joke)
Ryuunosuke and Susato have etched Asougi into their hearts and their persons and it’s just really, very good I like it a lot.
(okay time for a few paragraphs on DGS2 and Asougi)
Case 1 one DGS2 is a neat look into Susato’s mind and thought process. You can definitely tell she’s still just a 16-year-old with the mistakes she makes and how she tries to handle her own arguments, which is very cute. We also get to see her actually talking to Asougi’s grave and then see how her own relationship with Asougi has influenced her style (/poses) and aspirations. (Ryuunosuke, too. It’s cute to see how she’s ended up a mixture of both of them.) And it’s a great rug pull moment for the player, since the way that the grief is handled in DGS1 is so good and (almost) final that hearing Asougi might not actually be dead is a bit like digging up old wounds. I mean, we went the entirety of the first game coming to terms with his death, what do you mean his body went missing??
(Case 2 serves as a reminder. Like haha remember how Susato and Ryuunosuke both love Asougi and are sad about his death? Here’s the baseline again, get ready to have it wrecked!)
And Case 3 is phenomenal, too. The way Van Zieks is so understanding in his response to showing him Asougi’s badge is just. It’s perfect, he’s so gentle and empathetic that it shocks Ryuunosuke (even though Ryuunosuke did the same understanding and concern for Van Ziek’s situation Ryuunosuke please). Then the way that Ryuunosuke sees Asougi, disguised in a cloak and mask, and immediately recognises him. To me, that really shows how much he loved his friend. He knew Asougi for about a year and it’s been about nine months since Asougi’s death, yet Ryuunosuke recognises him just by the way he carries himself.
But, to him, Asougi is dead. He’s made peace with that. So, even if it plays on his mind, he can’t allow himself to think that. He puts it out of his mind completely and doesn’t think on it again.
At least, until Susato (who reacted very realistically by shutting down the possibility that Asougi might still be alive because that means Sherlock lied and she couldn’t take having that hope break her worse than before) sees the exact same thing just as immediately and shouts after him. The fact that they both see this disguised man and know it can be no one besides Asougi is insane. It’s love. It makes me cry, I wish they could’ve hugged him during the big reveal (though I know Japanese culture’s just not like that).
Anyway, DGS2 diatribe over. Back to the conclusion.
The whole of DGS1 is just a masterful example of how grief doesn’t have to destroy you, of how life can go on and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing, and how channeling that grief into motivation to keep their memories alive can be powerful. That it’s okay to still feel grief even as you heal, that it’s okay to have fun and keep living even as you mourn. Life is a mixture of levity and tragedy and, to me, DGS1 nails that mixture with perfection.
Absolutely legendary. Join me next time when I dive into the main theme of DGS2, which is literally ‘the dead will come back to life to haunt you’ thanks for coming to my essay talk

New Dad Moments
Kuroo Tetsurou, Oikawa Tooru, and Tanaka Ryuunosuke
A/N: lots of self-indulgent fluff and some hq boy chaos. Tanaka’s was so funny to me like picturing it but it’s also half the length of the other two oops. pregnancy/labor/delivery and slight language (like really slight)
KUROO
You and your husband were taking your new baby boy home from the hospital. You sat by the hospital window, holding your son close as you waited for Kuroo to come back from packing the car. Your baby was blinking up at you and you felt your heart could combust right there. You started talking to your son, telling him how much you loved him. His little eyes looked sleepy but it made you smile how much they looked like Kuroo’s eyes. “I wonder what you’re going to be like when you’re all grown up.” He squirmed a little in your arms and you softly stroked his little arm. “Are you going to grow up like your dad? What do you think? If you do I know you’ll have an amazing heart, just like him.” You placed a small kiss on his head. You turned when you heard a soft knock on the door.
Tetsurou smiled at you two adoringly, “Let’s go home.”
After settling all your things you three had a moment to relax on your bed. “He’s so beautiful,” Tetsurou whispered.
You nodded in agreement. You couldn’t believe your baby was real. You were mesmerized. You were brought back to reality when you heard sniffling next to you. You looked at Kuroo. “Hey why are you crying?” you cooed.
Tetsurou had been especially emotional since he first held his son. Just this morning you caught him crying as he rocked his baby boy.
Kuroo used the sleeve of his sweater to wipe at his runny nose. “I love him so much I can’t comprehend it.” He furiously tried to wipe away his tears. He chuckled, “Damn it, I keep crying.” His eyes went wide and he slapped his hand over his mouth, “Damn, I just cursed..” Another look of realization hit him. “Aw, shit I just said damn again! Aghh wait I can’t stop! Motherfu-”
You quickly gasped and whacked him on the chest before he could finish, “Tetsu!”
A strangled noise fell out of him and his face went pale. “Y/N,” he threw his head onto your shoulder in despair. You tried to comfort him so you smoothed his hair. You knew he didn’t mean it and you knew he would be feeling way worse than needed.
He started mumbling apologies to you and to the baby. He eventually quieted and your thoughts replayed what just happened. You erupted into laughter and Kuroo sat up again. You started cackling so much tears were escaping. You tried to calm yourself down so you wouldn’t be shaking the baby too much. But Kuroo joined in on the laughter and it took a while for you guys to quiet up.
Eventually a calm took over the air again and you two were back to admiring your son. You felt so much joy and you almost started laughing again thinking about what Kuroo did. You spoke up and leaned your head closer to your baby, “Hey little, remember that thing I told you in the hospital. Maybe you don’t have to grow up to be exactly like your dad, hm? Less of a potty mouth perhaps.”
Kuroo’s chest rumbled in amusement. “Hey,” he chided. He lifted his son’s hand lightly, “Dada will do his best, okay buddy?” He turned to give you a smile and you felt flustered by how much love he looked at you with. “But I would not be opposed in the slightest if he turned out more like you. I think that would actually be really, really lovely.” He leaned toward you and placed a soft kiss on the cheek.
It was your turn to get emotional.
OIKAWA
You weren’t getting a lot of sleep with the new baby. You thought your pregnancy brain was bad but the sleep-deprived parent brain was working its way up to first place. One morning Oikawa wrapped his arms around you and told you to go take a nap. A long nap. Your head sank into his chest and you let out a deep breath. You pouted and looked up at him. Brushing his hair back you told him, “I can’t. I have to do the laundry, I have to make lunch, I need to give her a bath. I don’t think I have the time, love.”
He gently shook his head and tucked a piece of your hair behind your ear, “Make time. Laundry, lunch, baby. I got this. You need rest.”
Your heart swelled and your body wanted to immediately say yes to the proposal for sleep but you observed Tooru’s face. He wasn’t faring much better in the sleep department either. “Are you sure?” you asked him.
“Positive.”
You kissed him and made your way to your bed, sinking into sleep faster than you expected to. When you woke up you felt like a million bucks. Then your parental instincts went into high gear when you heard crying. You jumped out of bed but calmed down when your brain told you that it wasn’t your daughter. Then you recognized that the little sniffles were little Tooru sniffles. You found him in the baby’s nursery. He was rocking her around her room.
“Hey, handsome.”
“Oh hey sweetheart, you look refreshed,” he placed the baby into her crib.
“What’s wrong? You’re crying,” you say as you wrap your arms around him and look over at your little baby girl.
“I was just thinking. And I started crying,” he let out an embarrassed laugh.
“Well what were you thinking about?”
“One day she’s going to grow up.”
“Well we just have to cherish these moments then hm.” You gave him a tight squeeze before releasing him.
He turned to face you. He was pouting. “But Y/N, you don’t get it. She’s going to grow up and she’s going to be strikingly beautiful and intelligent like you and brilliant and hardworking like her daddy and then everyone at her school is going to flock to her but I already know she’ll be stubborn and she won’t want her amazingly kind and handsomely-aged dad to butt in. But someone’s gotta keep those crazy hormone-filled teens straight so then we’ll have to resort to asking Iwa-chan and then he’ll say ‘You owe me Shittykawa’ and then he’ll come and be an amazing uncle. He’s just going to show them that scowl and scare them off but then somehow one of them is going to weasel their way into her life and then they're going to confess and then they’ll start dating and then she’s going to get married. And she won’t be this tiny little baby anymore, oh Y/N I don’t know if I can take it. I’m not ready to walk her down the aisle.” He pulled you into a bear hug.
Your jaw dropped. These dramatic moments from Oikawa were few and far between since your highschool days and this was the most elaborate one in a while. You wanted to laugh but you wiggled your arms free so you could rub his back. You kept your hold on him until he lifted himself up. You brushed your fingers against his face and you wanted to frown looking at the dark circles under his eyes. He clearly needed a nice nap too. You ran your fingers through his hair. “If it makes you feel a bit better I don’t think she’s thinking about relationships at two months old.”
He cracked a smile, “She better not think about relationships until she’s thirty- no, forty.” It made you chuckle. He grabbed your hand and kissed the back of it. His smile was big now.
“Are you good?”
He nodded. “I made chicken.”
“What?” you giggled.
“For lunch,” he bent over the crib and gave your sleeping baby girl a kiss on the head and then made sure the baby monitor was on. Grabbing your hand he headed for the door, “Come on.”
“Okay but after lunch you are catching up on your sleep.”
TANAKA
Tanaka has always treated you like royalty, and pregnancy was no different. In fact it was probably even more extra during pregnancy. Will drive miles for the food you’re craving, give you massages, he did whatever he needed to make sure you were comfortable.
And now you two were in the hospital after your water broke. During the contractions, Tanaka gave you his hand to squeeze. And he kept encouraging you, giving you affirmations. After a particularly big contraction he smoothed your hair back. “You’re doing great, babe.”
“Thank you,” you gave him a smile.
He kissed you, “You look gorgeous.”
You laughed, “I look so gross right now, I feel so gross.”
“Well then you make being gross look really good.”
When it was time for you to start pushing Tanaka insisted you keep holding his hand. A big push came and you squeezed his hand tight. “Ow, babe that hurts, that hurts.”
The look of pure murder on your face when your head whipped to look at him as the baby was literally crowning out of your body.
His soul leaves the stratosphere. “You know what,” he puts his hand back into yours, “just break it.”
You grabbed it as the midwife told you to push again. As much pain as you were in you didn’t want to be mean to your husband one bit much less hurt him so you tried not to squeeze it too hard but something in your body told you to give an extra hard push and you couldn’t help it.
A small squeak escaped Tanaka before he crumpled onto the floor. You may have crushed his hand.
“Ryuu!” You tried to look over the bed at him but you were GIVING BIRTH.
“I’m okay, I’m okay. Keep going, beautiful. Baby Girl is almost here,” he groaned as he tried to pull himself back up.

corny/cute things they do for your love (G/N reader)
Includes:Tanaka Ryuunosuke❣ Bokuto Koutarou❣ Yuu Nishinoya❣ and Taketora Yamamoto❣ x G/N reader
Warnings: Cursing, but other than that it's just pure fluff.
Note: Forgot to add that you guys are not dating yet in any of these, but you both do have a crush on eachother (so basically this is their way of making a move on you). This is kinda just another trash post, cause like I typed all of this in an hour. But i'm gonna try and post something around this weekend, so hopefully that will make up for this. Also I didn't really know what to title this post- Anyways enjoy!!!!
❥Tanaka Ryuunosuke❥
This one is more on the corney side I guess
Watching a horror movie together
The plan is for you to get scared and cuddle up in his arms…
But his plan may or may not have worked
You guys are watching Midsommar at Tanaka's house. And suddenly you get to a really gory scene causing you to cringe and hide your face in Tanaka's chest. So of course Tanaka is gonna try and play it cool and poke fun at you a little. “Aww is someone getting scared?” He says with a teasing tone. “Oh shut up” you pout. He snickers turning back to the movie only to be met with an angry Saeko “AAAAAAAAH ITS A WITCH!!!” he screams, jumping into your lap. “WTF DID YOU JUST CALL ME?” Saeko screams, getting ready to beat Ryuus ass “O-oh hey sis.” Yeah lets just say tanaka had a couple bruises and nail marks decorating his body. But he was okay with it since you were the one that patched him up and took care of him!
❥Bokuto Koutarou❥
Good morning and Goodnight text
Some people find text like that dumb (idk why) but i think they are cute
Especially if it's from bokuto!!!
Also he definitely spends like 40 minutes choosing what to say, cause he doesnt want to offend you or seem dumb
Most likely has Akaashi proofread it before he sends the text to you
The sound of your phone going off wakes you up at an ungodly hour this morning, causing you to let out a groan of annoyance. Knowing you wont be able to go back to sleep until you find out who texted you, you check your phone. The text was from Bokuto so your annoyance from before was washed away. “Good morning Y/N!!! I hope you got your beauty sleep for today. Even if you didn't I'm sure you will still look beautiful/handsome as ever🥰. Also this morning I am going to run by the new cafe before school, and I was wondering if you would like something from there? It's on me.” As you read the text a smile appears on your face. You reply right away saying “Good morning bokuto💕 I did get a good amount of sleep, I hope you did as well! And I would like to see the cafe, I haven't found any time to check it out yet. Maybe we can go together? I'm still gonna count on you to pay though!!”
“HEY HEY HEY, are you asking me out on a date? Thought I was gonna have to make the first move. I wasn't gonna allow you to pay for yourself anyways! How about I meet you there in about an hour, yeah?”
❥Yuu Nishinoya❥
Does something dumb to try and impress you
His plan will most likely go south
But hey at least he tried…Right?
You stop by the Karasuno gym ,to give Sugawara a notebook that he left in one of your classes, only to be met by an ecstatic Nishinoya. “Y/N...Y/N, WATCH THIS NEW MOVE I CAME UP WITH!!!” “Uhhh ok?” Nishinoya goes across the gym and does his infamous rolling thunder move. Or tries to- In the middle of sliding on the ground, Hinata opens a door slamming it right in Yuu’s face. “HEY Y/N!!!” Hinata yells, not noticing Nishinoya curled up on the floor right next to him. “Dumbass” Tsukishima mumbles walking away. “Nishinoya are you ok?” you say giggling, as you jog over to him. “Nooooo” He whines, giving a scared Hinata the death glare no, because the life was drained from Hinata's face when he noticed what he did. “Awww poor baby” you say squatting next to him. He pouts and gives you puppy eyes saying “Y/N my head hurts, I think the only thing that will make it feel better is if YOU kiss it.” “Oh really?” “Yep!” You giggle before caving in and kissing the top of his head. Insert Nishinoya hard core blushing, Tanaka crying in the corner because he wants Kyoko to do that to him, and the whole Karasuno team staring at you guys in a state of shock.
❥Taketora Yamamoto❥
Random little notes
He will slide them in your locker, or put one on your desk before class.
Kenma, Kuroo, and Lev try to help him with ideas of what to write
Lev gets his sister to also help
You enter your classroom excited to see what your secret admirer has left for you today. Walking up to your desk you pick up a folded piece of paper with a flower taped to it. You open up the note, but before you could read it the bell rings, signaling that class is starting. So you put the note in your bag real quick, and decide to read it at lunch. Eventually lunch comes around and you finally decide to read it.
“Dear Y/N,
Please meet me at the front gates after school. I'll be waiting for you my love.”
Even though the note was a little bland, you couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenalin coming over you after reading it. Cause how could you not be intrigued by the possibility of this letter being written by your beloved crush, Yamamoto. After school you rush to the front gate. Only to be met by another note telling you to go to the gym instead. Raising your suspicion even more, you rush over to the gym. And you can't believe your eyes. Somehow Yamamoto got the Nekoma team to do a whole acapella group. You can't tell if you should be scared or happy. Giggling you start to walk closer to the group. Only to be met by Yamamoto profusely blushing and holding a bokay of flowers. “H-Hello Y/N” Yamamoto says without making any eye contact with you. Before you could say anything, Yaku comes up behind Yamamoto and kicks his shin. “WTH yaku?” Yamamoto whispers to the libero behind him. “I know you did not force all of us to sing a whole ass song just for you to not make any eye contact with the girl.” “I'm trying man, I swear.” Yamamoto turns back around and continues where he left off. “Umm Y/N will you go out on a date with me this thursday!?” He screams, with his eyes shut. “Idiot you still aren't looking at her.” Kenma mumbles, trying to get his Nintendo back from Kuroo. “I'd love to!” Oh only if you had your phone with you, cause the face Yamamoto made when he heard you say that was way too adorable. Mans was literally crying.

Spoilers for the end of DGS2, but the thought has been plaguing me for a while now.
I just can’t stop thinking about how odd it feels that Asougi chose to be a prosecutor in the end. While some of that oddness definitely comes from DGS’s rushed wrap up post 2-5, I also just feel that Asougi’s own reasoning for becoming a prosecutor hits a little wrong.
Narratively I get why he became a prosector. It’s to set him up on an opposite but complementary path to Ryuunosuke (among other things), but I feel like for his own personal story, it doesn’t make a ton of sense the way it was done. At the very least, it feels like it’s a decision Asougi should have made much further down the line.
The rest goes under a cut bc this gets a little long.
When Asougi gives Ryuunosuke Karuma, he explains why he wants to become a prosuctor, saying the following:
“Because I’ve seen it now. I’ve seen what’s inside me. The demon that reared its ugly head that day. It was only for the briefest of moments, the last time I came face to face with that inspector... but it was unmistakable, I wanted to kill him. I’ve always known there are demons that live inside people. And now I know there is one in me. The fact that it very nearly consumed me is something I’ll carry with me until the end of my days... while I devote my life to fighting those whose demons have got the better of them... as a prosecutor!”
I don’t know if it’s just me, but if anything, it feels like this should reinforce Asougi’s want to be a defense attorney. Maybe that’s a little odd, but bear with me here.
He’s basically saying that while he knew that there were bad people out there with ‘darkness in their hearts’ (essentially), he’s come to realize that he too has this potential to do bad in him. If anything, shouldn’t that make him realize that good people can do bad things? Shouldn’t that make him realize that there are people out there who make mistakes? Wouldn’t it then make more sense that he’d feel compelled to help those people?
I understand that getting convicted of murder results in capital punishment here, but wouldn’t that make for a great new shift or addition in Asougi’s original goal of wanting to change the justice system? Now that he understands that good people can mess up, wouldn’t trying to change the law so that convictions aren’t necessarily so harsh be a great goal for him?
Sure, I get that Asougi’s goal wasn’t as noble as you’re initially lead to believe as it really had more to do with wanting revenge and all that, but with how he talked in 1-1, I can’t help but think it wasn’t all fake. I like to think that Asougi really did have ambition to change the legal system along with his goals of finding out what happened to/getting revenge for his father. But we’ll never really know since DGS2 couldn’t give us time to properly talk to Asougi about stuff like that.
Yeah, he can do this from the prosecutor’s side of things. No doubt that it would be much easier that way in universe, so in that instance his reasoning for becoming a prosecutor would track. However, from the way Asougi’s talking here, that doesn’t appear to be his goal at all. It really does come off more as “I want to contain the darkness within me while I punish those who let that darkness get the better of them.” It feels rather harsh, even if I’m unsure that it’s supposed to come off that way.
On top of all that, I feel like a character having this kind of goal would fit well with the themes of the game. DGS’s characters are not as black and white (for the most part) as the characters in the mainline games. Take a look at the true culprits across both DGS games. A number of them never intended to hurt anyone, and some that did never intended to kill anyone. There’s grey morality everywhere, and yet if a person is convicted of murder, they’re faced with capital punishment. (The games themselves sorta get around this by having the less guilty characters not actually kill anyone, which feels like a bit of a cop out, but I guess we can’t be too morally grey now can we?) A character trying to align the universe’s punishments with the grey morality seems like it’d be a nice fit, and interesting to boot, but I digress.
To bring things back to Asougi specifically, I suppose another way to read what he said is that this realization caused Asougi to lose faith in people, something he’s said is vital to being a defense attorney. In which case, becoming a prosecutor is his only real option if he wants to still become a lawyer, but there’s another issue I take with it.
When Asougi first tells Ryuunosuke he’s going to be prosecutor, he says he’s going to study under van Zieks to become as formidable as he is. The problem is that, not but a few days earlier, Asougi said that he’d never be able to forgive van Zieks. While that doesn’t mean that Asougi wouldn’t be able to work with van Zieks, it would no doubt be difficult due to those lingering feelings of resentment. On one hand, this tells us that Asougi is putting aside his feelings to better himself as a lawyer, which is good, but it feels very odd that Asougi would have such a change in attitude towards van Zieks in such a short time period.
Not only that, but van Zieks also no doubt has some conflicted feelings towards Asougi as well. Without getting into a big analysis on how van Zieks might feel towards Asougi himself post 2-5, I feel it’s safe to say that those feelings would be complex. Add on that Van Zieks has purposefully distanced himself from people for years, and while he’s shown that he's slowly moving past his issues, I can’t imagine he and Asougi would get along well at first for the same reasons I stated earlier. They could tolerate each other, yes, and ultimately, I do feel that they’d be able to properly accept everything and become good colleges... but again. That. Takes. Time. Likely a lot of time in their case. It’s just not going to be a good environment to learn in at that point in time.
It honestly feels like they’d get on better if they were rivals in the courtroom where they can grow to appreciate each other’s abilities without having to actually directly interact much at first like how van Zieks and Ryuunosuke did. From that point it would make a ton more sense if Asougi were to decide he wanted to change sides. Then again, maybe that anamosity and tentative truce would escalate if they were on opposite sides of the courtroom...
But look. All I’m saying is imagine if Asougi stuck with being a defense attorney and tried to change the law surrounding convictions. He ultimately could have become a defense attorney like Raymond Shields, where he takes guilty clients who deserve some sympathy in an attempt to get them less harsh punishments. It would have been cool.
TLDR: Prosecutor Asougi works, but it feels like a weird and awkward choice at that point in time. On the other hand, defense attorney Asougi could have been really cool.

Just because I don’t act stereotypically queer, doesn’t mean I’m not queer. Just because I don’t tell anyone I’m queer, doesn’t mean I’m not queer. I’m not ashamed of being queer, I just don’t see how it’s anyone’s business.
I’m sure Higo-san felt the same way. The so called fans who outed him as bisexual are no fans at all, they’re just money hungry bigots, that’s what they are. Why does his sexuality make them angry? He’s still the same soccer player with good looks and talent at the game. He still has the same personality, the same music taste, the same style of dressing. Higo Ryuunosuke is still Higo Ryuunosuke, as he always has been.
What hurts is that everyone in real life assumes I’m angry at Higo-san. Just because I screamed when I saw the article, they jumped to the thought of me being a terrible person. Which I am, but these are the same people who constantly try to convince me otherwise. Their reactions tell me the truth of what they think of me, that they can’t imagine me screaming because I was happy that my favorite celebrity is also queer.
Maybe it’s my fault for not telling anyone. But really why should I? What’s the point? I’m not going to date anyone, everyone seems too innocent or too dark to be loving me and I’ve made peace with that. All I wanted to do was rant about Higo-san being unjustly outed but now I have to deal with having to choose between being seen as a homophobe or taking a step I’m not ready to take by admitting I’m bisexual.
I miss my sister. She always understood when it came to these types of things.

Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu – The Battle of the Trash Heap
What’s In Tokyo Interview Translation  With Daigo Kotarou, Akana Ryuunosuke, Nagata Takato, and Kondou Shouri
=====
To begin, I’d like to ask you about your impressions of one another during your first meeting. Daigo: When was our first meeting? Takato: It was when we went to visit rehearsals for “Fly High” in 2019. But all we did then were casual greetings, so our first proper chance to talk was during an interview after that.
=====
Full interview and more photos under the Read More! Please do not repost my translations
=====
Daigo: That’s right! During that interview, Takato-kun treated me like an equal even though I’m younger, and so my first impression was, “What a nice person.” For Shouri-kun, I thought, “He's like a very mischievous older brother.”
Tumblr media
Akana: They didn’t just come to visit rehearsals, they came to see our tour too. I remember thinking how much the both of them must love Engeki Haikyuu, and I felt how precious it was to them, so I was really happy. Now that rehearsals have started for this, I feel like we’ve become able to talk about all sorts of things, but Takato-kun feels especially like a rival. He’ll give me a lot of suggestions like, “Wouldn’t it be better for Kageyama to move like this?” “If you move like this, I feel like it would better show the relationship between you two.” Shouri-kun... gives off a vibe of, “Follow me!” so he’s this senpai overflowing with chivalry.   Shouri: Eh?! I don’t really think of myself that way though. (laughs) Daigo: No, Shouri-kun is... chivalrous... or manly! (laughs) Akana: For sure. He’s the sort of person that lifts everyone’s morale just by being there.
Tumblr media
And by contrast, Nagata-san, Kondou-san, what were your impressions of these two? Takato: To be frank, at the very very beginning, there was a part of me that couldn’t honestly accept them. Or I didn’t want to. We spent so much time with the first cast, and I felt like it was such a different Engeki Haikyuu... (bitter smile) Now I don’t feel that way at all, and when I looked into Kota’s (Daigo Kotarou) eyes at rehearsals while he was performing, I felt that he was the real deal. And from that moment on, I just lost my entire complex about the current Karasuno cast. Honestly, I had goosebumps in that moment!   Shouri: Hm? Exactly how much did you get goosebumps? All the way down to your butt? (laughs)   Takato: Why do you always say things like that?! (laughs) Everyone: (laughs)
Tumblr media
(laughs) And Kondou-san? Shouri: They’re really straightforward people. Before rehearsals, it felt like they were just expecting us with this attitude of, “What you got, Nekoma?! We’re the main characters here!”   Daigo: You probably thought we were a bunch of really cheeky kids. (laughs) Shouri: They were all so upfront, that we somehow felt like we were let-downs. They said to us, smiling, “Let’s all do our best as a company!” The Karasuno cast before us now are all a noisy bunch, but they’ve come together as one cohesive Karasuno for this, and I feel like they’ve really come into their own.
Tumblr media
It’s been about a year since Nekoma’s last appearance in Engeki Haikyuu. Shouri: It’s already been a year and a half since “The Tokyo Battle!” It almost feels like it was just the other day.   Takato: Whenever Shouri has time, he watches the “Tokyo Battle” DVD and cries. Isn't it crazy that he cries for a show that he appears in? (laughs) Shouri: Even when I read the script for this play, it felt like it was playing in front of me and I cried.
Tumblr media
What does it feel like to have the full force of Nekoma back together again at rehearsals?   Shouri: It’s so heartening! We have a comeback for Nakamura Tarou, who plays Inuoka Sou, and we have our new Haiba Lev, played by Tahori Leo, so in the world of people who are 11.5 heads* tall, we’ve got the most stylish newbies. (laughs) And we finally have our high respected Coach Nekomata Yasufumi played by Ohtaka Hiroo-san, so Nekoma’s gotten even stronger and I’m really excited.   Takato: It’s the best! I’m so happy that we get to make a production together with these incredible, irreplaceable people that I’m sure I can somehow overcome our daily muscle pain and soreness.
*T/N: An average person is 7.5 heads tall proportionally; Shouri is probably making a Captain Tsubasa reference, who was drawn proportionally 11 heads tall and became a meme.
Tumblr media
In a previous interview, you had said that the Engeki Haikyuu muscle pain means that things have really kicked off.   Takato: I had muscle pain immediately after we started rehearsals this time. At this point, it’s just my age. (wry smile) Shouri: But I think the level of intensity has gone up since we first started back in 2016 with “Karasuno Revival.” It’s absolutely more difficult than those rehearsals, I think. I mean, these two young ‘uns are probably just fine though.   Daigo: No no, we feel it too. That’s why after rehearsals, I’m always doing a lot of aftercare.
Tumblr media
What’s the atmosphere like at rehearsals when it’s that difficult? Daigo: Well this is our third production now for Karasuno, so we prep our physiques to endure these rehearsals, and then we proceed pretty smoothly. Because if you slack off even just a little bit, accidents happen, so we’re always talking about how to brace and focus so that nobody gets hurt. It’s a great atmosphere and always such a lively place.   Akana: When I look at the Nekoma cast, I feel such a sense of unity from them, even when we’re not acting. It makes me wonder if Karasuno’s doing enough, so I want to follow their example.   Takato: For example, how? Akana: Like how organized you are, like this person teaches everyone the dance, that person does the count, how some people just naturally pull others along. When you think, “Well let’s talk about this all together” regarding the play, you gather together so quickly... there’s just a lot that I’ve learned watching your team dynamic. We’re pretty settled as a team too, but it sort of feels more planned. When I look at everyone Nekoma, it feels like every person is more balanced and could be the center of the team. I wonder if that’s just a difference in experience.   Daigo: I thought the same thing. That’s why I was thinking that we have to talk things out with everyone on Karasuno all together at least once. From now on we’re going to brush up on that and keep improving!
Tumblr media
This year, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Strongest Challengers tour was unfortunately cut short after 4 performances. Following that, how did you feel, and how did you spend your day-to-day? Daigo: Of course I was sad that we had to cut off the tour and not perform all that we had scheduled, but nothing is for certain, and it wasn’t just us. Around the world, everyone was having a difficult time, and there was also just a sense of, well this just can't be helped. During lockdown, I did have some anxiety as to whether or not I’d ever be able to work for the rest of my life, but I was so encouraged by the support of all these people who love theater. And now thanks to everyone on the staff who clean and disinfect our rehearsals everyday, and thanks to all the people who continue to support us, we can make a new production and go to rehearsals again, so right now I just feel nothing but gratitude.
Tumblr media
Akana: We had to cancel all of our live events for VOYZ BOY, the group I’m in, and I was really depressed and anxious about not doing anything, so I started cooking everyday and streamed that.
You streamed on Instagram, “Akana Cooks.”   Akana: Oh did you watch? Thank you. I get depressed when I don’t get to do anything, so I did a lot of cooking and training at home. Since I wasn’t going out in public, at one point I looked in the mirror and I was shocked because I was starting to look so uncool. So everyday I wanted to at least be able to look in the mirror and say I looked good.   Shouri: Wait, you think about how cool you are while looking in the mirror?! That’s incredible. (laughs) Everyone: (laughs) Daigo: But you did that and took the initiative to start streaming, and you stayed active, and that’s the important thing.
Tumblr media
And if the fans are able to see your face, they also feel relieved knowing that you’re doing okay. Akana: I was aware of that, so I was updating my social media everyday.   Takato: I was also thinking that I might get fat if I wasn’t going out, so I was trying to be careful about my meals, but I kept eating things that basically had no calories and then I just got skinnier and skinnier instead. (wry smile) But recently I’ve gotten my body weight back to where it was.
Did you watch a lot of movies or dramas while spending time at home? Takato: Everyday I was watching about 3-4 things. That’s about all I did that was fun. I was also able to think about a lot of things, and thought it would be good if I could take the knowledge I accumulated in that time and put it to use the next time I was able to work.
Tumblr media
Kondou-san, did you spend the time doing anything new? Shouri: Mmm......... Daigo & Akana: I’m expecting him to say something really funny. (laughs) Shouri: What was I doing... I was eating. Takato: What kind of answer is that?! (laughs)
Kondou-san, you were also doing insta-lives, weren’t you? Shouri: Oh yeah. I tried a “I’m going to make Tiramisu!” video and failed really hard... Everyone: (explosive laughter)
The fan comments were pretty lively for that one. (laughs) The merengue wasn’t foaming at all, but you kept trying to force other ingredients in, so there was a flood of comments screaming, “NOT YET!” (laughs) Shouri: About an hour before that stream, I’d managed to make a really yummy cheesecake, so I thought I’d challenge myself. I was thinking, “I have a good sense for this, maybe I can be a pâtissier,” but then that one was just a complete loss. But for a moment I had thought, “Maybe I’ll become a YouTuber.” (laughs) Takato: Ahahha! Why do you immediately jump to that?! (laughs) Shouri: Well I don’t have any specialties to bring to this work like singing or dancing. So I sort of thought I needed to develop a new skill and I thought about it a lot... I wanted to learn something new, so I was even thinking about starting ballpoint pen calligraphy.   Takato: Hm? Does that have anything to do with work? Shouri: Well, once I realized it wouldn’t, I just watched an old drama and cried by myself.   Everyone: (explosive laughter)
Tumblr media
Well we’re all worked up now, but we’ve reached the end of our time, so lastly if you could all give a message to highlight this play. Takato: I’m confident that we’re going to make this the most fun play out of all ten in the Engeki Haikyuu series, so please come to see us!   Shouri: There are going to be a lot of scenes that are going to make fans of the manga go, “Ah, it’s that scene!” It’s going to be something that longtime fans of Engeki Haikyuu will really enjoy. But even for people who will be seeing Engeki Haikyuu for the first time, as a stand-alone production, they’ll be able to enjoy themselves plenty. For me right now, “The Tokyo Battle” production is the one that’s etched into my mind as the best, but we’re going to go beyond that and make it so that we’ll wrap up our final show feeling like “The Battle of the Trash Heap” is the absolute best. We’re going to tackle this with everything we’ve got, so please look forward to it.
And then once the “Battle of the Trash Heap” DVD is out, you’ll watch it and cry. (laughs) Takato: I mean in the scene where he’s crying, he’s the only one crying, isn’t it a bit creepy? Shouri: No no! I’m not just crying because I see myself crying on-screen, it’s because I start remembering my emotions from that time and then I start crying! Daigo: I sort of understand that feeling. Shouri: In “The Tokyo Battle,” it was a scene where I said that I definitely wouldn’t cry, but then I saw Noah (who played Lev) get teary-eyed, and then I started crying. I was really planning on pushing through it, but then I saw the DVD and I was really crying a lot, so I’m super embarrassed. (laughs) Takato: Because everyone calls that scene the “Shouri cries scene.” Because Shouri’s tears just wash everything away. (laughs)   Everyone: (laughs)
And moving on, Akana-san, if you would. Akana: The Battle of the Trash Heap is the most popular match of the series, so we’re all worked up more than usual. We definitely want to make something that surpasses everyone’s expectations, so please look forward to it. It’s precisely because we’re so frustrated that the previous tour, “The Strongest Challengers” ended after 4 performances that we’re going to make sure this production makes it safely to the last show. Everyone in the company is going to do our best to that end!
And lastly, Daigo-san, if you would.   Daigo: First I would say that a highlight of this play is going to be its freshness. We can’t let down our guard in the current situation, but it’s because we had this time where we couldn’t perform that everyone on the cast is so grateful that we’re able to return to rehearsals and face opening night. We’re approaching this play sincerely and with renewed spirit, and I can just feel it in my skin. Everyone has been waiting to be able to just simply enjoy working on a play, so I think it’s going to be an exciting production with a lot of emotions mixed in. I’m personally very excited. Please look forward to it and come to see us at the theater!

Fake Dating: Tanaka
A/n: Tanaka is a really awesome character, and all I’ve done for him so far is hurt him in my writing, so finally, some Tanaka fluff, enjoy😌
G/n reader (However!! I use bro a lot, keep in mind!!!!)
Tumblr media
Tanaka Ryuunosuke
Tanaka and you are bro’s
You have been since middle school
You’ve always gone to as many of his volleyball games as you could go to
And he’s always extra pumped when you’re there
His energy rubs off on you a LOT
When he rips his shirt off and swings it around, if you’re wearing a jacket or sweater, you pull it off and swing it around with him
Tanaka, Noya, and you are all close
And pretty chaotic together😬
The other second years see the three of you in the halls, and immediately avoid eye contact at all costs
Ennoshita tries to stop the three of you from causing trouble, but he just ends up getting dragged along (someone help him😔✌️)
Theirs a big family get together for Tanaka’s family in a couple days
Saeko, Tanaka’s older sister, makes a bet with him, that whoever can find a date for the dinner will be the best sibling
And while it’s stupid, Tanaka isn’t not taking that bet
He wants that best sibling title😡
So he runs up to his crush, exclaiming his love the second time that day, anddddd he gets rejected
Kiyoko just doesn’t feel that way about him😔
So now he’s panicking, he doesn’t want to lose, but who else can he have as a date
And then! You run up to him, just trying to ask a question about math, and while you really shouldn’t be asking Tanaka about that sorta thing, you figured it couldn’t hurt to ask
Except now he’s asking you to be his date to a family gathering
“Y/n, would you be my date so I can prove I’m better then Saeko?!”
You’re kinda just staring at him like he has two heads
The last you checked Tanaka like Kiyoko
“Ummmm, don’t you like *awkward hand gesturing* Kiyoko...?”
“I’ll always like Kiyoko! I need a date to this family thing though, so please, can you pretend to date me for one night?”
You’re super hesitant about it, in the end you agree
You do it for your bro😤
It ends up being a a lotta fun, his family is super up close and personal about your “relationship”
Saeko also ended up with a date, you have to calm Tanaka down when he sees that
You get him laughing by pulling him over to some family members to make up crazy answers to the dating questions they have
Near the end of the night, his aunt comes over and asks if Tanaka and his partner could come to her wedding in a month
Without thinking you and Tanaka agree
So now you have another fake date
This kinda keeps happening, a family member finds you guys fun and cute together, and they invite you to another get together type event
Neither of you minds, it ends up being normal, you get used to being together all the time
And dating each other is fun!
You get to see sides of each other that you didn’t know before
Lots of couple-ly things happen
Tanaka pumps you up when your feeling low, and you do the same
Going on dates together
Even a school dance (pictures are sent to all of Tanaka, and your, relatives)
It feels nice dating him
You have a realization... you like him
But you know that he can’t possibly feel the same, not when he likes Kiyoko
So your feelings are shoved down
Tanaka can tell something’s bothering you, he can’t figure out what’s making you sad
He asks if he needs to beat anyone up, all you do is shake your head no
He’s desperate to see you smile again, he wanted to go on another date with you this weekend, and he wanted to hold your hand again
He explains this to his fellow second years, pissed that he can’t figure out what to do
What they ended up telling him was confusing
“What do you mean I like Y/n?”
Tanaka’s freaking out! He likes Kiyoko, he thinks he does at least
“Listen Tanaka, you two are always together, and when was the last time you even mentioned liking Kiyoko? It’s been awhile, and it’s because you like Y/n.” Ennoshita points at the gym doors “You should tell them, it’s probably why they’re upset.”
It takes a moment for his feelings to really become clear
Once he knows Ennoshita’s right, he’s running to find you
When he does, he’s estatic. He doesn’t even say anything at first, just gives you a hug
He’s almost crying while he shouts that he reaallyyyy likes you and wants to go to his family’s events as a real couple
It hits you like a truck, he feels the same, you might be for real crying😳
Tanaka thinks you don’t feel the same for a second
Then you’re telling him you’d like that, and he’s crying too
Now you’re two bro’s, chilling in your school halls, zero feet apart, cause you like each other~

Back Off! I Yaku M.
Tumblr media
A/N: Okay so, really sorry if it took way longer than I intended. I wasn't sure if I liked the flow when I wrote it so, I kept changing it. Anyways anon, I hope it was worth the wait and also it was what you hoped for!! Again, sorry!!!
And if this isn't what you hoped for, I could always change it or make another one so don't hesitate to message me!!
Tumblr media
It was only the first day at the Tokyo Training Camp and Yaku was starting to get pissed off by every little thing. Just as Karasuno arrived, Yamamoto was already on his knees as soon as he saw their managers, "The girls have multiplied…!!! Now there's a pretty one and a cute one!"
"Take a good look, Tora…" A bald player said, standing in front of the two females, "This is the sanctity of Karasuno."
"Kuh..! So bright..!"
"Yamamoto-san, coach is looking for you!" You said, walking over towards the mohawk headed player.
"That's right!" A squeak escaped your lips as Yamamoto pulled you close to him, arm around your shoulder, "We've got ourselves a female manager too!"
"Wahhh!! Beautiful! TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE, AT YOUR SERVICE!!!" He offered you his hand, taking it and shaking it gently.
"Oh, um… (l/n) (y/n), it's nice to meet you Tanaka-san." As you let go of his hand, he blushed madly, saying words you couldn't comprehend.
Yaku stared at your interaction with Karasuno's wing spiker, a scowl on his lips and arms crossed. He marched towards the two of you, a hand on Yamamoto’s collar and the other intertwined with yours, “Keep stalling and I’ll add a few things to your training. Everyone’s waiting inside already..!”
You stood besides Coach Nekomata, tuning everything out. You didn't quite understand what he was explaining anyways as you only have a little knowledge and experience regarding volleyball and being a manager, allowing you to grasp the basics. You had accepted the role after Kuroo pestered you about it non-stop and a go signal from your little boyfriend, not like you would say that to him face-to-face. You were after all, shorter than him.
Currently, you were tossing the ball for the players to spike with the Liberos on the receiving end. Lev jumped and hitted the ball, showing improvement unlike the first time you saw him, "Did you see that, (y/n)-san? That was great right?!"
"That was better than last time, Haiba-san. Keep at it and you'll become an ace in no time!" The first year hugged you tightly, not noticing the glare the third year libero sent his way.
"You Tin-headed Titan! Stop flirting with (y/n) and get back to practice!!" Yaku was now right beside you, pulling you away from the middle blocker's embrace.
"Oh Yaku-san, weren't you over there just now? How'd you get to this side so quickly?" Lev asked, looking down at his senior.
"What do you mean how?" You felt like you already knew the outcome but let them be as it was still entertaining to watch.
"I don't know. Maybe I just didn't notice since you were so short-- ack!" The light grey haired first year tumbled forward after getting kicked by Yaku from behind.
"Alright, alright, I think that's enough kicking exercises for you. We still need him in his very best condition." You patted him on the head, on your toes. You gave Yaku a smile and somehow, that reassured him a bit.
"I didn't even hit him that hard..!" He pouted before blushing when he heard you mutter the word 'cute'.
"I know. C'mon, let's continue practice."
• • •
Now back at Nekoma, you were hand-in-hand with Yaku, heading home. Though, you noticed that something was up. His hand clenched yours as he silently walked beside you and you were starting to get worried. It just wasn't like him.
"Yaku? Is something wrong?" You asked, glancing at him. He turned his head towards you, a smile on his lips. But you knew it was different.
"Yeah. Just tired, we did play a number of matches." He said, stretching a bit. Your hand now hung free as you rummaged your bag for an energy bar.
"Here. This should help you until you get home and cook up some real food before heading to bed. You need all the strength you need for training tomorrow," You said, handing him the convenience store bought food, "Also, don't stay up too late or sleep with your hair wet if you're planning on taking a bath."
"You're starting to sound just like me. But don't worry, I won't… Man, I don't even wanna know what I'd do without you nagging at me like this." Yaku teased, earning a soft hit on the head. Though, he acted as if it hurted more than it should.
"Hey! I'm just trying to make sure you take care of yourself too. You always seem to do that for the team so, you can't really complain," You reasoned, a blish covering your cheeks, "Besides, I really care about you, so much."
"Yeah, me too. Now, come one, it's getting pretty late, I don't even want to imagine the look Lev will give me once he gets there before me..!" He ruffled his hair in annoyance, "Worse if he picks on me again saying I was late because of my height."
"Don't be like that. Even if he does joke about it a lot, I'm sure his respect for you amounts just as much." You replied, rubbing circles on his hand.
"Thanks, (y/n). Now, I should really get you home. I could always stay at your place if your parents aren't home."
"Not a kid though, you worry too much!"
• • •
Time went by and before you knew it, the whole team was in Shinzen High. You didn't want to admit it but, you began to dread the week, not because it'd be another busy schedule for you and the other managers but because the attention you get from some of the other teams' members was enough to tire you out completely. Especially when Yaku knocks them down with a kick, making you apologize to both your and the other teams' coaches. To sum it up, an average of fifteen kicks per hour, including ones from Lev.
It was the fourth day and you have noticed the huge change in Yaku’s behavior. He was more serious during matches and he had chosen to ignore the guys who would walk up and interact with you, except for Lev of course. Even the managers noticed this and asked you about it. Nekoma was about to head back to court when Yaku called for you. You were both ecstatic and nervous at the same time. Ecstatic because it has been exactly two days since he last spoke to you and the latter was because you don’t know what your talk would be about.
“Y-Yaku, what… What is it?” You asked as soon as he was in front of you. His eyes refused to meet yours and you were starting to wonder what you did wrong.
“After this match… N-no, after the last match for today, wait for me at the hill behind the school.” You nod, letting him go back to his team.
Now all that’s left is to play the waiting game.
• • •
It was a clear night out, a bit cold as you clutched the jacket you brought closer to your body. Your ears managed to catch the soft scratching of feet against trimmed grass, turning around to see Yaku staring at you with a look you were unfamiliar with in his eyes. To him, at that moment where the wind blew your (h/l) (h/c) hair to the side and the moon highlighted your beauty, he knew he’d have to work hard and prove to you that you shouldn’t have any reason to let go. So should he.
“Sorry to make you wait…” He scratched the back of his head, nervousness starting to fill his body.
“It’s fine, I just arrived actually.” You replied when in reality, you have been waiting for ten minutes. You finished earlier than expected and without a clear meeting time, you decided it was for the best to wait for him and avoid a bunch of crazed idiots with equally crazy hormones. You returned to your previous position, eyes gazing up at the sky.
“So, what do you want to talk about?” You could feel Yaku slither his arms around your waist and place his head on your shoulder. You sucked in a breath before exhaling, missing the affection you two usually shared.
“I was thinking… Maybe you shouldn’t have been the team’s manager after all.” He confessed, making you turn your head. Your faces were close to one another, your lips centimeters away from his cheek.
“What? Why? Did I do something wrong? Did the coach say something?” You asked frantically, moving away from Yaku’s hold.
He tsked, clicking his tongue in annoyance, crossing his arms, “Well, if it wasn’t obvious, they were flirting with you and I hate it. Even Lev’s trying to take a shot at you when it’s already clear that you're already mine.”
“Aww, is Yaku getting jealous?” You teased, a small smile on your lips.
“So what if I am?! I just want them to leave you alone without me attacking them. Also, I’m worried that you’d choose one of them over me who’s always short-tempered and really insecure about his height. Hell, that libero from Karasuno’s shorter than me and he doesn’t give a damn!” He pulled his hair a bit, frustration written all over his face, “I can’t make them go away if you let them approach you like that. Even in this body, in this size, I want to protect you the same way I protect the ball from hitting our side. I’m saying this because I don’t to lose you and I--”
You blinked a couple of times before opening your mouth to speak, “You’re so cute, Yaku.”
“H-hey! I’m trying to voice out my feelings before I beat everyone up and this is your reply?!” His face boomed with color as he watched you laugh. He always did love the sound of your voice, whether it be a soft murmur or a loud cheer. You making him, or anyone, smile even in the most depressing occasion was always your forte.
“Sorry Yaku. I just can’t believe that I’ve been so lucky to be able to date such a talented, compassionate and intelligent guy like you. You trying your best to keep me from harms way just shows that you’re just as good as everyone else, better even. So what if you’re short, then let’s be short together! And even if one of us was way taller than the other, I’d still choose you. Besides, flirting will get them nowhere when I already have you!”
"Good. Because I'd choose you too. I love you (y/n)." Yaku said, eyes staring back at yours lovingly. Maybe he was just thinking too much, at least now he knows to never doubt your feelings for him.
"Love you too, Mo-ri-su-ke~" And then everything came to a standstill. Freezing up, his eyes were wide open and his mouth hung slightly. You giggled at the sight before stopping when you realized he was actually frozen on the spot, almost forgetting how to breathe, "E-eh? Yaku? Yaku?! Don't tell me that I broke you just by saying your name?!! Hey! Ahh..! What to do, what to do!! Maybe Kuroo knows something, I should--"
Before you could even take your second step forward, Yaku grabbed a hold of your wrist and pulled you close to him, engulfing you in a hug. His face was covered by the crook of your neck, mostly in an attempt to hide the embarrassed blush on his face, "A-and where do you think you're going?"
"Thank goodness you're okay." You sighed in relief, your left hand caressing the strands of his brown hair.
"Of course I am! Y-you just caught me off guard, that's all." He reasoned, voice muffled out.
"No way! Next time, I won't--" Cutting you off the second time, he retracted his head from its hiding place, facing you. The blush could still be seen and besides, the color suit him.
"Who told you to..? I just needed a little bit of getting used to hearing you say my name… Especially in public." Yaku said, the last three words in a whisper.
"Are you sure?" Placing your right hand on his cheek, he leaned in at your touch as you stroked it with your thumb.
"As long as it's my name you're calling and nobody else's. Don’t touch anyone because I’m here, because I’m beside you so, please.. Don't go anywhere. Promise me that you'll always stay by my side." He closed his eyes, hovering his left hand on yours. Such a simple gesture made your heart flutter ten times more than usual or perhaps you were falling for him more as days go by.
"I promise…" A smile lingered on your lips.
It was a comfortable silence, neither of you wanting to break it. Leaning in, you placed a kiss on his forehead, making him mirror the smile you wore.
"Oh, and please don't tell the others that I, uhh… crashed." He stepped back as you chuckled.
"Don't worry, I won't."
• • •
He wore a smile the next day, seeing you dismiss the guys who were flirting with you. The training camp had come to an end, the coaches preparing a barbecue for everyone. You and the girls sat together, laughing at each other's jokes. Some of the players blushed at the sight of your little group while the others, mainly Yamamoto and two from Karasuno's team roamed around, keeping anyone from looking at Shimizu.
You joined Yaku and a few of your team after a while, the libero wrapping an arm around your waist, "Oya? Is Yaku finally telling everyone to leave his little girlfriend be?"
"Shut up, Tetsurou. Unlike Morisuke, you couldn't get a girl to like you back! Plus, you really should try to fix your hair…" You pointed out, earning a few snickers from second years.
"That's pretty low, (y/n). And did you just call him by his first name? That's new. Made up or something?" Kuroo said, grinning widely, dismissing the topic about his hair.
"Huh? Oh yeah. Still trying to get used to it though." Yaku blushed, receiving a loud laugh from the captain.
"What's with the face, seriously? You'll ruin your reputation as a demon senpai if you keep that up!" The two bickered, not noticing a player coming up towards you.
"Hey! Nekoma's manager!!" Your group froze, turning towards the source of the voice, "We were wondering if we could get your number?"
Yaku had a scowl on his face, wanting to leap at the player right there and then, but calmed himself down, "I'm sorry but, I don’t like seeing my girlfriend giving her number to just any guy…"
"Girlfriend? So, you’re the..? Man, even though you’re pretty cool on court, you’re just a--" You hit the player on the stomach, making him curl forward.
"Yeah, he's really cool but, say something negative about him and I'll make sure you won't get to play on court for a few months." You threatened, both Kuroo and Yaku flashing a smirk towards the guy. He left after gaining composure from your attack as you returned to your place beside the libero.
"You're surprisingly brutal, (y/n)-chan." Kuroo let out another laugh, you followed with a giggle.
"Well, I learn only from the best!" You proudly said.
"You make it sound like that hurting people's good.." Yaku pouted, making you kiss his cheek. His eyes shot wide open, his mouth hanging and his face erupted to a color that would put Nekoma's volleyball uniform to shame. He wasn't clearly expecting you to kiss him in public, even if it was on the cheek.
"W-what was that for?!" He asked, with Kuroo still howling from behind you two.
"Hmm, no reason. Just felt like I should." You shrugged, Yaku sighed as he finally managed to bring back the original color to his face.
"God, I love you." He only shook his head, a chuckle leaving his lips.
"Love you too, Morisuke." You held his hand, clenching it tightly.
"By the way, nice hit though."
"Thanks babe!" Needless to say, you should really stop surprising the third year or else making him blush would become your next hobby.

The Trial of Shoyo Hinata’s Rising Heartrate, Witness Three: Tanaka
Can also be read on AO3!
Rating: T (just for language)
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Pairing: Kagehina (Kageyama/Hinata)
Characters: Ryuunosuke Tanaka, Shoyo Hinata, Yu Nishinoya, Chikara Ennoshita, Hisashi Kinoshita, Kazuhito Narita
Word Count: 1,794
Summary: Ever since Kageyama and Hinata were first banned from the gym by Daichi, Tanaka had found himself taking the troublesome crows under his wings. But he still doesn't understand why he can't stop worrying about the first years' fight.
A/N: Author’s notes can be read on AO3.
Tanaka was no stranger to fights.
Well, no, that wasn’t quite right. For all his posturing, he’d never actually been in a fight. He’d gotten close a few times, but a threatening tap of his fist to his palm usually got his message across fine. And while disagreements were bound to arise within the team every now and again, he’d never seen an actual fight break out. The closest they’d come was the argument between Nishinoya and Asahi, and thankfully Tanaka had managed to hold the libero back before he tried to cause any real damage.
Which was why he’d reacted so instinctively when he followed Yachi into the gym just in time to see Kageyama fling Hinata to the floor, only for Hinata to throw himself back into the fight as recklessly as he went after Kageyama’s tosses. In the few seconds he’d seen, Tanaka knew this went beyond any other argument the first years had had before, and even went beyond any regular fistfight. There was real, tangible hurt and betrayal between the two, and his fresh instincts as a senpai made him put a stop to it as quickly and efficiently as he could.
So he punched them. And he didn’t regret it. His punches got the job done, after all.
But still…the emotions he’d seen the previous night weren’t something that would go away in the single day they had off. He wasn’t some sort of expert on emotions or anything, but he had a bad feeling their animosity would leak into the next day’s practice, and they only had a few weeks until the Spring Qualifiers.
“Ryuu.”
Those punks were at the center of their attack. If they couldn’t get their shit together, then…Tanaka would never say it out loud, but he really didn’t know if they could pull off the victories needed to go to Nationals.
“Ryuu?”
He wished he had Daichi’s calm state of mind and firm faith in the team. Maybe that was something that came with being the captain.
“Ryuu!!”
“Earth to Tanaka!”
He snapped out of his thoughts and found Nishinoya, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita staring at him, all in the middle of big bites of their lunches. “Huh?”
“Geez, man,” Nishinoya mumbled around his mouthful. “What’s up with you? You never zone out like that.”
“Sorry, I was just…did you guys hear about the fight between Hinata and Kageyama?”
“I overheard you telling the third years about it,” Ennoshita said. His eyes were on Tanaka, but he still managed to catch Nishinoya’s chopsticks before the libero could help himself to a sausage from his bento. “I don’t get it, was it any worse than their usual arguments?”
“Yeah, bruh, they were throwing each other to the ground and everything! It was crazy, Yachi thought they were going to kill each other.”
“Probably would’ve,” Kinoshita sighed. Tanaka couldn’t really see him around Narita perched on his desk, but he could imagine the chagrin on the blonde’s face. “You’d think those two hate each other if they weren’t attached to the hip.”
Narita hummed at that. “They didn’t look very attached this morning. They wouldn’t even look at each other, it was weird.”
“What’d Daichi-san say?”
Tanaka shrugged at Nishinoya. “He said they’d be fine. Said it’s not the first time they fought, and they’ve gotten over humps before. But I dunno, man…I don’t think he’d be so confident if he’d seen it himself.”
“No, that wouldn’t change,” Ennoshita murmured, “He’d still have faith in them, that’s how the Captain is.”
“So you need faith, too, Ennoshita!”
The look he pinned Nishinoya under was deeply unimpressed. “Shut up. Are you clowns done with your lunches? You gotta leave those desks soon.”
A chorus of groans rose from the group, before Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Narita obediently cleared out. After they parted ways with Narita in the hallway, Nishinoya slung an arm around Tanaka’s shoulders, tugging him into an awkward half-crouch as they walked back to their classroom. “Quit worrying about them, dude! They’ll be alright, like Daichi said.”
“Yeah...I guess we’ll see, huh?”
For the rest of the day, and the next school day, that was all Tanaka needed to ease his mind and forget about the fight. After all, Daichi was right - those two had gotten into arguments before, had entered the team practically at each other’s throats. There was no reason they wouldn’t bounce back from this, maybe even faster than they had before.
When Hinata bowed in apology to him before practice started the next day, Tanaka really thought everything was ok. The first year looked chipper as always, ready to play his hardest and push the rest of the team along with him.
Then Coach Ukai announced he would be playing with Sugawara instead of Kageyama. And the freak duo passed each other to opposite sides of the court without so much as looking at each other.
Shit.
Hinata still played well. Better than well. Tanaka didn’t know what he did with the team’s day off, but he could tell that it must’ve had something to do with volleyball.
And yet...something was off. For all his smiles and energy, he was strangely quiet. Any time he wasn’t actively playing or responding to a plan for the next rally, he seemed to draw into himself, clearly preoccupied with…something.
Tanaka could barely understand the odd, volatile, intuitive bond between the freak duo, and he didn’t really know what he could say to help them fix the fracture that had formed. But when the team got ready to split up for individual practice, he found himself approaching Hinata at the edge of the court. “Hey, Hinata.”
The first year looked up from where he was stretching on the floor. “Yeah, Tanaka-san?”
“Listen, I…I know fighting with a teammate sucks. Especially when you’re working together as much as you and Kageyama.” Or Nishinoya and Asahi. He couldn’t forget the days after Asahi left the team, when the barest mention of his name made the libero turn stiff and silent. “But it happens, man. And you’ll always have the rest of the team. We’ll be with you on the court, and we’ve got your back off the court, too.”
Hinata’s wide eyes became downcast as Tanaka spoke, and when he replied, his words were directed to the floor. “Thanks, Tanaka-san…but I dunno if I’ll even be on the court if Kageyama won’t toss to me.”
“Nah, he will!” Tanaka plopped down on the floor next to Hinata, joining him in stretching. “Kageyama’s an idiot, and he’s stubborn as hell, but man, does that guy know the game. He won’t mess it up because of a fight.”
“But then he’ll only toss the same toss that he always has, and I won’t be able to choose the path of the ball, and we’ll get blocked out again.” Hinata’s hands clenched against the floorboards, and when he looked up, Tanaka was startled by the cold focus in those usually-warm brown eyes. “I wanna fight for us on my own terms. I know I can do it. But it’ll never happen if Kageyama won’t believe in me. He’s my partner, and he doesn’t believe in me.”
Partners, huh? Tanaka was suddenly reminded of a conversation he’d stumbled across between Suga and Daichi at the beginning of the year. They hadn’t noticed him because Daichi’s eyes had been pressed behind his hands, and Suga’s eyes had been fixed on the new captain, hands gentle on his shoulders. It didn’t take long before Tanaka had felt too guilty to keep eavesdropping, but he’d heard one thing in particular from Suga that had stuck with him ever since.
“We’re partners, Daichi. On and off the court. So quit trying to handle everything by yourself and let me help.”
There was a stubborn pride in Hinata’s eyes where Suga’s had held gentle care…but their gazes did share a sense of yearning, an almost-desperate entreaty to their partners.
Tanaka knew Hinata hadn’t used “partners” with the same meaning as Suga did. But as he listened to the first year talk, he wondered if maybe it did hold the same meaning, and Hinata just had no idea yet. “He does believe in you, man. I think he’s just scared of messing with what’s worked so well. Maybe if you keep working at it by yourself, get some tips from Coach and stuff, he’ll come around. It’s happened before, and it already seems like he’s getting his ass in gear to improve his tosses.”
Hinata finally grinned at that. “I’m way ahead of you, Tanaka-san! I got Coach to help me out yesterday.”
“Yesterday. On our day off.”
“Yep!” He bounced to his feet, the pride in his eyes shining warmer with his smile. “I realized I need to get better at hitting all sorts of tosses. That way Kageyama will know that I can hit any toss he sends me!”
Tanaka could only hope his bemused disbelief didn’t show in the grin that crept across his face. “You really care about what he thinks, don’tcha?”
“Yeah! If I’m gonna beat him, then I have to be good with and without him. I have to be good by myself so I can keep playing with him.”
“That’s the spirit!” Tanaka cheered, slower to push himself to his feet. “But y’know…it’s not so bad to be ignored sometimes.” The look of pure confusion Hinata pinned on him didn’t hold any judgment, but Tanaka could still feel embarrassment creep through him. “Not on the court! Just, y’know, like how whenever Kiyoko-san ignores me, I feel extra pumped up! Even though I know she doesn’t mean anything by it.”
The small confused frown curving Hinata’s lips wasn’t making Tanaka feel any better. “Yeah, but…don’t you have a crush on her? That’s different from how it feels when Kageyama’s being a jerk.”
Oh. He really has no idea. He’s absolutely clueless. Fuck. “R-right,” Tanaka stammered. “Yeah, it’s different, sure. Forget I said anything.”
Hinata looked like he was going to ask another question, before his attention was distracted by Coach Ukai’s call for him. “Coming, Coach!” He ran off with a final smile for Tanaka, who was left standing dumbly with his bottle held limp in his hand.
So. Hinata definitely had a crush on Kageyama. And had no idea. And no one else had ever mentioned anything to Tanaka, beyond the usual musings over the way the first years bickered constantly and still managed to play like lifelong partners. Which meant Tanaka was likely the only person who had realized anything. And he wasn’t about to discuss it with anyone, it wasn’t his crush to talk about. But the realization still made secondhand embarrassment prickle through him.
“Shit,” he whispered to himself. “Those idiots are doomed.”

WHAT THE KARASUNO MEMBERS ARE AFRAID OF
hi everybody! i’m back again with some headcanons of what i think our karasuno members are afraid of! i’ve had these in the back of my mind for a while so i’m finally sharing them lol- hope you enjoy! also sorry- there might be spelling errors i didn’t do a thorough check.
Tumblr media
TSUKISHIMA KEI
i feel like he’s is afraid if rollercoasters, ones with large drops specifically
Like if you ask him if he wants to get on the drop tower with you, he would refuse. it’s an automatic “no.”
He CAN be peer pressured onto getting on a coaster though
but if you do manage to get him on one he’ll be sick for the rest of the day so proceed with caution
YAMAGUCHI TADASHI
yamaguchi is 100% TERRIFIED of spiders
when he were to see something like a wolf spider he’ll would scream and probably run
If he ever saw a tarantula he might just pass out
He would even be freaked out by a rubber spider AFTER he knew it was fake 😭
Saw a HUGE one on the wall when he was home alone and the first thing he did was call tsukishima and ask him how he should get rid of it
of course he teased him but he did actually end up helping him
HINATA SHOYO
clowns lol
When he was small his mom took him to the circus and that’s where the fear originated-
Watched IT because he thought he could handle it and hasn’t been the same since
When killer clowns were trending best believe he was on edge at all times
saw a clown during halloween and FROZE in terror
KAGEYAMA TOBIO
JUMPSCARES (same dude)
Yeah he seems tough n all but all you gotta do is show this guy a jump scare compilation and he’ll be flinching and yelping at every single one
you’d think he would expect it after a while but nO
Tried to play FNAF but you can imagine how that turned out
lasted five minutes
YACHI HITOKA
poor girl is afraid of literally everything but if i had to narrow it down i would say the dark and creepy noises
she’s always the last one to fall asleep at a sleepover because the room is pitch black and she keeps “hearing” things
she’ll be on edge for most of the night
once she does try and fall asleep she keeps imagining things
TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE
GHOSTS AHAHA
okay YES he does realize that they aren’t real and they can’t hurt him
but saeko used to tell him scary stories as a child to freak him out and those have stuck with him to this day
if someone even mentions the word around him he’s already walking the other way trying to get out of this conversation
NISHINOYA YUU
Dolls.
this man has seen WAY to many movies to be dumb enough to be near an antique doll of any sort
thinks they’re the creepiest thing to like ever exist
don’t even try to get him to watch annabelle, because it ain’t gonna happen
again like tanaka, if he sees one he’s sprinting the other way
SUGAWARA KOUSHI
(this one is based off of me and all of the info here is true)
Heights
really strange because he’ll get on literally the tallest roller coaster and be like “oh that? yeah no problem let’s do it” but he can’t even stand on the ledge of some stairs without stumbling back
you know those ladders that only have like three steps? he cant even get on those without trembling
don’t even think about having him change a lightbulb because if he has to get on an actual ladder he is OUTT
Like tsukishima, would rather die than get on a drop tower
DAICHI SAWAMURA
The ocean
idk it just doesn’t sit right w him that it’s just a large body of water that he can’t see through
like who knows that type of creatures are lurking below the surface
If he goes to the beach he’ll swim sure but don’t expect him to go super far out
Doesn’t help that he watched a documentary about it
ASAHI AZUMANE
Like yachi, he fears a lot but one of his biggest ones are bears, which is kinda ironic to me considering he reminds me of a big bear
The fact that they can become so big when standing on their hind legs freaks him out
also doesn’t like that despite how big they are they’re still super fast
KIYOKO SHIMIZU
Nothing. She fears NOTHING.
nah i’m jk she hates centipedes
if she sees a huge centipede she’s definitely slowly backing up trying not to scream
but honestly who isn’t afraid of those things they have wayyyy too many legs
Tumblr media
heyyyy hope you enjoyed! tried to get these as accurate as possible, or at least from my thinking. but i’m very tired as it is 12:15am so i’m gonna hop off. see you next time!

“i said i’ll come back, didn’t i?”
heyyyy~ i am back at it again with my boy, Tanaka Ryuunosuke!!! I love him so much (but I love Suga more sksks) so here! I hope you like it!
note: GIRL,,, I LOVE HIM DJHAKAJSLSD the prompt was edited to my liking
warning: just one cuss word, i think? sksksks i also didn’t specify what really happened because i can’t think of anything, so sorry!
words: 2.6k
summary: After you left Miyagi, Tanaka was pretty much convinced you don’t exist but then he sees you, and then he realizes all of it was real  (prompt by OTP prompt generator)
pairing: Tanaka Ryuunosuke x fem! reader
(the fic is under the cut since it’s kinda long so)
Third P.O.V
As a kid, Tanaka likes to admire pretty things, such as his mom and older sister, their house, and occasionally, the pretty girls. So, when Y/N came along, he admired her pretty great. He didn’t know why but Y/N actually wanted to talk to him and be his friend. She said that he should always go to the park so they can meet and play.
Saeko, his older sister, was happy when she heard his brother talk about this girl, he apparently was friends with. She would listen to his stories to how Y/N was cool and pretty, but it bothered her that in the few weeks that his brother has known her, they’ve never met. She would ask Tanaka if they could meet but Y/N always has something important that came up. She doesn’t know what she’s hiding but she wants to find out.
“Hey, Ryuu!” She called his brother. “Where did you say L/N lives again?”
“(Random Street Name), why?” Tanaka asked, his head cocked to the side.
“Nothing,” She smiles at the kid. “I was just curious.”
Saeko planned to confront who this girl is, once and for all. It was 3 pm when she decided to go out and find Y/N, so she bid goodbye to Tanaka saying that she needs to get groceries for them. Saeko was walking down (Random Street Name) when she was bumped by a kid, maybe around Ryuu’s age.
“Hey, kid!” She said. “Do you know anyone with the name L/N?”
“Um,” She could see the hesitation in his eyes. “I don’t think I’ve heard of that name before, miss.”
She muttered a thanks, but she knows the kid knows something. She shook her head and walked up to one of the houses and knocked. An old lady opened the door to her and smiled. “Yes, dear?”
“Do you know anyone named L/N Y/N? I heard she lives on this street.”
“Yes, I know the L/N’s.” The old lady smiled a little. “How did you know her? The L/Ns haven’t been here for a few months now, they said they were moving because of their daughter.”
“She’s a friend of my brother,” she scratched the back of her neck. “Well, thank you, ma’am!”
“No problem, dear.”
Saeko was left lost in her thoughts. How could Ryuu know someone who moved months ago? Did her parents leave? If so, the kid shouldn’t be alone, but she remembers the excuses Ryuu has told her, how her mother needs her home and such. She went home uneventful and upon opening the front door, she could hear sniffling.
She changed her shoes quickly and looked for Ryuu. She opened his bedroom door and sees her brother crying. “What happened?”
“Y/N’s gone!” He sniffed, tears coming down his eyes. “She came here and told me they were leaving for America.”
“Ryuu, they have been gone for months.”
“What?” Tanaka was dumbfounded, what does her sister mean ‘gone for months’?
“I went to their neighborhood and some lady said they haven’t seen the L/N’s for months. I don’t think she’s real, Ryuu.” She explained.
“How could you say that?” His tears flowing more. “She’s the only girl that wanted me as her friend, how can you say she’s not real?”
“She always makes excuses when I want to see her, don’t you get it? She doesn’t want to reveal the fact that she isn’t real!” Saeko doesn’t like hurting her brother but he needs to understand the truth. “I’m sorry but I don’t think she’s real given that she hasn’t been here for months.”
Saeko left and Tanaka’s tears continue to flow at the thought that someone, his friend, wasn’t real. They were twelve years old when they met and became friends. She approached him first and he was very happy to have met her, but he couldn’t help but think back to what Saeko said.
“I don’t think she’s real, Ryuu.”
All the time, when Tanaka asked Y/N to meet his sister, something comes up.
"I'm sorry, Ryuu! My mother needs me home right now."
"My mother's asking me to get groceries, sorry!"
"I have an emergency, Ryuu, sorry!"
"Can I meet your sister next time? My father's gone home from America and he wants me home now."
And then he remembers her pinky promise to him, right before she said goodbye.
"Ryuu," She holds out her pinky. "Promise me that you'll never forget me!"
"I won't!" Tanaka said and smiled, curling his pinky against hers.
"Pinky promise?"
To which he replied, "Pinky promise."
She smiled, but not her usual smiles, Tanaka noticed. It was one of those smiles she does when she's sad or need to go home soon.
"Ryuu," She said, holding his hand. "I'm going to leave. My family's going to America. I came to say goodbye."
"What?" Tears brimmed in Tanaka's eyes; he couldn't believe it. "Why? Do you really need to?"
"I'm sorry," She bit her lips slightly. "I can't tell you right now, but you'll know. I'll come back--" She paused. "--for you."
"Why do you have to leave me?" Tanaka was crying.
"You'll know, soon." She smiled, tears in her eyes. "We'll meet again, Ryuu. I promise you."
She hugged him and kissed his cheek before turning back, waving at the boy. Ryuu, I'll come back for you.
He hates it, but his sister can be right. All the times they’ve had, maybe it was too good to be true. He wiped the tears in his eyes and looked at his pinky finger. He sighed, you’re too good to be true Y/N.
----------
It was now 5 years later. He was proud to say that he never thought of Y/N once again. Those years of forgetting went off to playing volleyball, the one sport he really loves. He poured his time on practicing so he can forget the pain of knowing she’s not real. He was currently at Karasuno’s gym practicing for a match with Aoba Johsai.
On the other hand, a girl with (h/l) (h/c) hair was walking on the streets of Miyagi. It was different, it has been five years since she last saw this place, and the last time she saw him. She shook those thoughts away and held her phone in her ear, talking to someone.
“Hey, Yuu?” She said. “Where the hell was I supposed to meet you?”
“I’m at Karasuno right now, (N/N). I have practice.” He said, she could hear sounds of balls bouncing on the hard gym floor.
“Then, tell me how to go there!” Even though she lived in Miyagi when she was a child, she couldn’t remember it because she doesn’t go around much. She was either stuck in the hospital or hiding from Yuu, her cousin, since she sneaked out again.
She was often scolded by her parents and her cousin, Yuu, when she sneaks out of the hospital. Her caretaker would shake her head at her disobedience. When she usually sneaks out, she would go and meet Ryuu and for a while, she would feel normal and that makes her happy. Of course, Ryuu is also a good friend and she really likes to be with him.
Yuu was the only one besides her parents who would accompany her to her treatments, and he would always stay by her side when she’s hurting. He’s her closest cousin so it made sense, but she was always thankful for Yuu.
“Okay,” She said after Yuu directed her to Karasuno. “I see it, see you at the gym, Yuu!”
“See you!”
Before Y/N got to hang up, she heard a shout from the other line. “Hey, Noya! Who are you talking to?”
She didn’t hear what her cousin replied because she already hung up since she’s already at the gates of Karasuno. It was after school hours so most of the students were already leaving, but not those with clubs, especially sports clubs. She walked towards the gate and asked the guard where the volleyball club was practicing at. Going in the direction he pointed at, she made her way to Yuu. However, she couldn’t explain why her heart was suddenly beating so fast.
Going back to Tanaka, he suddenly got goosebumps and his heart started beating so fast. When Daichi called for a break, he sat down, and he swore he never drank water so fast. He could hear Noya talking to someone and giving them directions to Karasuno. Who is he talking to?
He heard him say, “See you!” so Tanaka got up and walked towards Noya and shouted, “Hey Noya! Who are you talking to?”
The call seems to have ended since he put his phone down and answered him. “My cousin, N/N. She just came home from America and Auntie wants me to take care of her.”
“America?” Tanaka thought, that’s where Y/N said her family went to, if she was real. He simply nodded at Noya and said, “Oh,” in understanding.
Before he got to speak, they heard the door creaking and opening. They turned their heads towards it when a girl suddenly popped in her head.
“N/N!” Noya immediately shouted and ran to the girl who was now inside the gym. She was taller than Noya and Tanaka admits, she’s really pretty. Although, he couldn’t help but think that she seems familiar.
Y/N brushed her cousin off her and turned towards the team and bowed. “I’m sorry for disrupting your practice, but Yuu told me to come here.”
All the team members, except for Tanaka who was still staring at you and Tsukishima who didn’t really care, smiled and said that she wasn’t a bother. Y/N locked eyes with Tanaka and she could sense a familiarity in it like when she used to stare at Ryuu. Tanaka could also feel it and was quietly observing you, not being his usual energetic self.
“Come on,” Noya pulled you. “You’ll want to meet everyone!” Y/N let Yuu pull her to his teammates and listened to him introduce them one by one.
When he got to the guy you stared at a few moments ago, you looked at him and smiled. “And this is Tanaka Ryuunosuke!” Y/N’s eyes widened as she looks at Tanaka, no—Ryuu, a certain memory suddenly played out from years ago.
"Hi, I'm Y/N!" The said girl reached out her hand to this boy she saw in the park. He was alone and all the other kids doesn't seem to want to play with him.
"You're pretty," Tanaka blurted out when he first looked at the girl to which said girl giggled.
"Thank you! You look cute! What's your name?"
"Tanaka Ryuunosuke, but you can call me Ryuu!"
The girl beamed at him and said, "Okay, Ryuu! Do you want to play?"
The boy smiled at her and said, "Yeah!"
Tanaka Ryuunosuke. Y/N can’t believe it. On the day she came back to Japan was the day she sees Ryuu again. She realized she was staring when Yuu snapped her back to reality. Tanaka, not being used to girls staring at him, blushed.
“I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable.” She apologized, smiling. Her sweet voice made Tanaka smile a bit and said it was okay.
Y/N bowed towards the team and introduced herself. “Hi, my name’s L/N Y/N.” She could see how Tanaka’s eyes widened as she was still looking at him. “I’m Nishinoya’s cousin, as he has told you. I just came back from America to get treated.”
Tanaka’s eyes couldn’t get any bigger. The girl introduced herself as Y/N, anD SHE’S REAL?! He stared at her as she explained her arrival in Miyagi. But the only thing Tanaka could comprehend is that she’s real and not just part of his imagination. He couldn’t help but tear up and before he got a hold of himself, his body started moving towards Y/N.
“Is it really you?” Y/N simply nodded, and he hugged her immediately, tears staining her clothes. The team was obviously shocked, did he know you? Noya was also curious but his questions were answered when Y/N spoke.
“Hey, Ryuu.” She smiled, tears forming in her eyes. Noya smiled as well, he knew about Ryuu, but he didn’t know it was Tanaka since she never told him Ryuu’s full name. He urged his teammates who were busy gawking at the two of them who were still hugging.
“It’s been a while, Ryuu. Do you remember our pinky promise? I hope so, I hope you didn’t forget me.”
“I was waiting for you to come back,” He muttered. He was happy she’s here. Now all those excuses she said before made sense. Even the times Y/N was suddenly out of breath, but she said that she was okay.
“I said I’ll come back, didn’t I?” She smiled and pulled away from him. “Well, I’m here!”
“Yes, you’re here.” Tanaka said and smiled, his tears subsiding. “You look very pretty.”
Y/N remembered their first meeting and giggled, once again. “Thank you! You look cute!”
Tanaka blushed once again but he couldn’t help but smile. Y/N was real, and she came back for him.
  BONUS:
“Um,” Y/N said, she can’t help but be confused. Saeko, Ryuu’s older sister, thought you weren’t real? “Do you think I can meet her now? We probably need to be introduced.”
Tanaka looked at her. Practice was over and they were going home. Noya was beside them, casually eating the meat buns Daichi treated them with. “Yeah, I guess. But are you not going to go home yet?”
“Yuu’s with me,” She said and turned to him. “He can go with us, if that’s okay.”
“Yeah! I haven’t seen her for a while.” Noya said so they went on the way to Tanaka’s home. When they arrived, Tanaka could see how nervous Y/N was, so he held her hand and squeezed it for reassurance. Y/N smiled at the gesture and sighed.
“Ryuu!” Saeko greeted her brother as she opened the door. She could see he has company, Noya and some girl, who is this? “Noya, hey! How are you?”
She gestured for them to come in and prepared some drinks. She laid them infront of their guests and sat down. “What brings you here all of a sudden?”
The girl cleared her throat, drank some water, and turned to her. “I’m sorry for not meeting you sooner, I’m Y/N L/N. I just came back from America. I’m also Nishinoya’s cousin and the friend of Ryuu when he was 12.”
Saeko’s eyes widened, she’s Y/N? She’s real. She looked towards Ryuu and she could see him looking at Y/N, smiling. “I-im Saeko Tanaka, Ryuu’s older sister.”
“Like I said, I’m sorry. All the times you and I were supposed to meet, I needed to go back to the hospital since I just sneaked out to see Ryuu. The day we went to America, Yuu told me someone was looking for me.” Saeko remembered the suspicious kid but his hair wasn’t bleached yet like Noya’s. “You were convinced I wasn’t real especially because of what Ms. Hayame told you, the old lady you’ve asked.”
Saeko feels embarrassed but before she could speak, Y/N continued. “I’m sorry. My family moved closer to the hospital since they needed to keep at an eye on me. It was funny when Ryuu told me what happened but it’s fine. You’re only looking out for him and it’s okay.”
Saeko smiled, still embarrassed, but she held Y/N’s hand. “I’m sorry too but you’re right. I’m just looking out for him. I want to thank you. Because of you, my brother learned to be much happier. You befriended him and I’m so grateful for that.”
“It was no problem; I like being his friend.”

Suna signs up for a doctor assistant position due to his families nagging and meddling. One thing though, Suna absolutely dispises hospitals. The plain white walls, the feeling of being trapped, the knowledge that not everyone who enters a hospital gets to leave. He hates it.
But, after getting to know the patients that now depended on him to keep them alive, he finds himself growing more concerned for them. It wasn't a good feeling, the sinking pit in his stomach that feared the day he walked in to the news of a lost friend. It clawed its way down his throat and haunted his very being.
And he falls in love. Osamu is everything Suna has ever dreamed of for a future lover. He's beautiful, smart, funny, perfect in every way possible. And he was dying. Falling further into his hallucinations and delusions that the real world around him begins to fade, with him along with it.
He needed to help these people. Stay with them and keep them alive. But, as weeks drag on, their sicknesses grow deadlier. Death clung to their skin like a purfume and grim acceptance fills their once hopeful eyes.
But, maybe medicine and IV's weren't what they needed. Love cures everything afterall.

1. as far as im concerned Kagami never left at the end of last game, that was an extended dream sequence... 2. i also totally agree with you that Kagami is prolly vers, if anything, and it was also MY PET PEEVE when people pinholed him into being a forever bottom at the peak of knb hype. 3. you keep teasing your long list of ships for Aomine PLEASE do him for the character thing lol. So far all your opinions are sending me into a realm of GOOD VALID VIBES
Omg thank you!! (I agree end of Last Game is not canon… or if it is he came right back the next year or smth I refuse to accept he just left forever. And I’m really glad to see the problem of Uke™ Kagami seems to be in decline these days… fewer people are writing for knb in general, but those that are seem to have an idea what a real gay relationship is or at least make him a fucking person and not a walking stereotype, and that’s encouraging to see).
Also thanks so much for sending Aomine! …Strap in for this character essay tho I’ve been known to never shut up about this boy once you get me started.
How I feel about this character
I honestly… can’t even explain it anymore or even try to justify it but Aomine has had a bigger impact on me than, I think, any other character I’ve seen to date. I don’t even know what it is, I do relate to him (and project on him *cough*) but like, there are other characters out there that I have more in common with, and I like his whole arc and aesthetic but it’s nothing revolutionary, so… your guess is as good as mine.
Whatever it is, I’ve been obsessed with this guy for over half a decade, and lately even as the KNB fandom falls into decline, my feelings are not they’re just getting stronger. His development over the course of the series is one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever seen, (that one bit at the end of the Touou/Seirin game with “I want to practice” and his later conversation with Kuroko hit me in the fucking chest every time), and I love how even though he’s portrayed as cold, uncaring and rude, it’s still understood (at least by anyone with some nuance) that that’s not what he’s supposed to be like, and underneath the distant, kind of dickish front, he’s hurting a lot. I’ve talked about the degree to which he cares about people before too, but I still have to give a mention to the ferocious level of protectiveness this guy has for his friends. I could go on about him for ages, tbh, and maybe someday I will write a for-real structured essay to try to get it out there, but the bottom line is I love this character, I have for a long time, and likely will continue to do so long into the future.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Okay here we go… I ship this guy extremely liberally, even with people he’s never interacted with (hell you could mention any random character and I could probably see my way clear to shipping them with him somehow, I’ll still try to explain my logic if I can). Prepare yourself.
Kagami (of course, AoKaga is the OTP and definitely the one I’ve devoted the most time to, they’re just the best together I’ll never get tired of seeing them figure their shit out over and over)
Kuroko (I may be AoKaga on main, but I’m still such a sucker for the tragic romance between these two, and sometimes it just hits me over the head like a sledgehammer how much I love their relationship. I’ve also got a lot of feelings for AoKagaKuro, they’re such a perfect trio and I need to invest more of my time in the OT3)
Kise (I was a bit late to the game on AoKise, but I definitely see it now. I love their dynamic and how imperfect their relationship would probably be, the complexity of it. sign me up)
Momoi (I don’t see a lot of AoMomo love anymore, but I’ve still got a soft spot for it, childhood friends are my weakness okay)
Midorima (they’re so different but that’s what makes it interesting, and I love the idea of neither of them knowing how to show/tell the other their feelings and being awkward stubborn shits together)
Murasakibara (they almost never interact but I just think they’d have such a soft cuddly relationship and be really chill together… lazy Sunday mornings sleeping in and hanging all over each other that kinda thing)
Akashi (kinda same as Akashi/Kagami, I think the difference between polished upper-class Akashi and scrappy city boy Aomine would be hella interesting… though I’ve also got some angst ideas for them as a couple, after how things went down at Teiko… abandonment and whatnot)
Imayoshi (I got pulled into this ship HARD by Lysapadin’s A Firm Hand series and now it’s no longer a guilty pleasure ship and is actually something I’ll talk about in the open, just… the power dynamic fuck me up)
Sakurai (I fuckin love the idea of an anxious Sakurai crushing hard on Aomine and not knowing how to tell him but when he finally plucks up the courage and prepares himself for imminent death Aomine’s actually pretty chill about it… plus they’d be adorable together tbh)
Wakamastu (you know it’s gotta be enemies to lovers. not just bc I’m intrigued by the love/hate relationship itself but if you look past the attitude issues these two would actually probably have a lot in common. also I’m really interested in how their dynamic might change with Wakamatsu being captain and all)
Susa (idk but there’s one throwaway line in season 3 where Imayoshi says about Aomine “actually maybe he likes you” and that’s enough for me. bring me the rarest rarepair my body is ready)
Kasamatsu (it wasn’t supposed to be SERIOUS but they got me. That moment in the Touou/Kaijo game where Aomine helps him up and “you’ve really done it now, senpai” is legit, plus these two would be such a good-looking couple, honestly.)
Mibuchi (give me the pretty boys. I have no excuse for this except maybe their interactions in my own damn fic again)
Nebuya (sometimes shipping can be as simple as hey I want them to bang right. also they’re both humongous dorks under their respective rough exteriors and I love them)
Moriyama (they bond over liking girls at first and then they’re simultaneously like wait a minute… more Touou/Kaijo ships pls)
Nijimura (I have this idea of them reuniting late into/after high school and Aomine still calls him captain out of habit and Nijimura’s like relieved and impressed to see how he’s developed since the mess at Teiko)
Himuro (they Never interact but they’d be so Petty and Snarky sign me up)
Haizaki (twisted, but I’m interested it’d be so unhealthy and awful bring it)
Hanamiya (even more twisted tbh but there is that moment where Aomine confronts him… and I’m here for hate sex just as much as your typical romance)
Inoue (who, you ask? I know he’s such a side character and no one remembers him, but he’s a big reason for Aomine’s downfall at Teiko and they seemed to be buddies before that, I’d be interested in some kind of reconciliation between them, or a romance, ya know whatever works)
And then we get into crossover territory… MOST of these are not my fault they’re just things I’ve seen and adopted for myself
Kuroo Tetsurou (someone made a moodboard for them, and now I can’t stop thinking about them in a relationship, like damn… it’d be such a beautiful mess I wanna see more of it)
Oikawa Tooru (I’ve seen art, and also the light. These two damaged angsty prodigies, one sharp as a whip the other dumb as bricks, but both of them sassy and nerdy as hell. I could see myself getting addicted to this ship if I took the time to write it out, and I just might)
Yamazaki Sousuke (can’t lie, they look good together. I’ve seen more than one art piece of them interacting and I have a Mighty Need.)
Matsuoka Rin (angry lonely talented boys finding solace in each other’s company? you know that’s my shit. also shark teeth and cop AUs hells yeah.)
Tanaka Ryuunosuke (I don’t know where the fuck this idea came from but I thought of Tanaka trying to pick a fight with “shitty boi” Aomine while in Tokyo and then losing his shit and here we are)
Terushima Yuuji (this one is purely physical… they pretty, I have no other reason, but also this absolute fuckboy, these two would be such a train wreck and I’m here for it tbh)
Yachi Hitoka (okay picture this Giant Terrifying basketball player trying to be less giant and terrifying to tiny shy Yachi and tell me you don’t just want to see that happen. I get Legosi/Haru vibes.)
I’ll spare you the rest of the ideas I’ve tossed around, because past this point it becomes pure crack (if it hasn’t already) but you get the idea. Throw a character my way and I can probably talk myself into it that’s the power this guy has over me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My non-romantic OTP for this character
K considering the List… it shouldn’t be surprising that I also consider this person a romantic candidate, but you know when it comes to non-romantic OTP it’s gotta be Momoi. Platonic or romantic, the way she’s stuck with him all those years and his obvious protectiveness and love for her and how (even though he claims to like big tits) he never even once starts to objectify her in any way, it’s so important to me. Momoi is Aomine’s redeeming factor when he’s at his worst, and she goes to bat for him even while he’s actively trying to shake her off and still tries to protect and help him when he refuses to accept it, even when it means they fight. (Also Kuroko saying “Aomine’s probably looking for you” after their argument puts to mind Aomine running through the rain calling Momoi’s name and that is just… pure). These two have the kind of unshakable long-standing friendship that’ll probably last them the rest of their lives, and no matter what context or form it takes, I can’t get enough of it.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I’ve harped on enough about the fandom’s portrayal of Aomine as a one-note asshole who doesn’t care before, so let’s see if I can change gears a little bit here.
I honestly don’t agree with… the persistent idea people seem to have of Aomine being a narcissist or obsessed with himself? Like yeah, he’s self-absorbed and egotistical, no question, this is not to say he hasn’t got those flaws and others besides… but that’s not the same as being like, physically attracted to yourself. Part of me suspects it was a “the only one who can fuck me is me” joke taken too far, so that now the idea of Aomine being in love with himself is just ingrained into the fanon culture, but if you look at the show itself, personally I don’t see it. If anything, I would think he’d have some self-loathing issues to work through (and that’s part of the reason he gave for skipping practice, he doesn’t want to be the way he is, and specifically says he doesn’t want to increase the difference between him and everyone else). But hey, that’s just my opinion. I’ll get off my soapbox now.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I mean he says he and Kagami are postponing their match, after their brief one-on-one when he gives him the shoes, and then we never get to see it… Tbh just more street ball with this guy would be great, since it’s what his whole style is based around. Even if he’s just playing by himself… or hell, maybe since he thinks no one at the high school level can beat him, we could get a scene of him trying to go up against adults. Maybe he still beats them and his despair worsens after that, but then it’d have more meaning, and at least we’ll have seen that he’s tried and is not just giving up before he’s seen all of what he could be up against in the future. Plus, picturing Aomine going five-on-one like Haizaki did against grown-ups and still slaughtering them is something I’d pay money to see.
