WHEN HARRY MET SALLY... 1989
It's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

The World, the Flesh and the Devil: An Early Example of Existentialist Afrofuturism
The World, the Flesh and the Devil is a fantastic yet underseen film that explores race in the after math of nuclear holocaust, and stars the late great Harry Belafonte. Please give it a watch and check out my review for the film.
Harry Belafonte’s passing has struck a chord within varying circles dependent on your primary artistic outlet of choice. While best known for his calypso music and activism, Belafonte was also an actor with an eclectic body of work. Through fifteen narrative feature films made over six and a half decades, Belafonte worked with major talent, including behind and in front of the camera, often in…

Yesterday on the Discord we were playing a fun guessing game that was REALLY hammering home just how integral a part of the performance audience perception is. Not only do the roles vary wildly depending on who is playing them, or even who they're playing against or even what day it is, but different audience members pick up different things. Although you and I might be peaceably sharing a loop and watching exactly the same performance at exactly the same time, maybe you're going to zoom in on the sadness in their eyes while I'm going to find myself more attuned to the comic beats
It's always been the wonderful thing about theatre, getting to see how different performers approach different roles, and particularly since they brought in the system of alternating casts and swings, Punchdrunk shows have always felt like a speed-run of that principle
So with this in mind, please accept this small primer where I briefly explain what I personally have taken away from every single Aegisthus to date in The Burnt City
Andrea "Loyal Aegisthus" Carrucciu - the cool thing about the OG Aegisthuses is that even though he has his own agenda in the story, that doesn't mean his relationship with Clytemnestra is any less sincere, and that is what has drawn me back to the character over and over (AND OVER) again
Paul "Devoted Aegisthus" Zivkovich - the key difference between the two OGs for me is that Paul always gave off the impression that his devotion to Clytemnestra was borderline agonising, that everything would have been so much easier for him if he didn't love her at all actually
Luigi "Elegant Aegisthus" Nardone - Aegisthus is my favourite dancey role, and Luigi just has an incredible way of moving, unbelievably expressive and extremely elegant, I could watch it for days
Steven "Disgusting Aegisthus" Apicello - if there are two things that can be said for this man's work, they are that 1) he always goes the extra mile and 2) he LOVES to spit!
Tim "Bitter Aegisthus" Bartlett - most Aegisthuses focus on the relationship with Clytemnestra, but Tim was clearly very familiar with the historical beef Aegisthus had with Agamemnon, and really let his hatred and bitterness shine through whenever he could
Harry "Fraternal Aegisthus" Price - had a real familial familiarity with Clytemnestra, one of the least sexual pairings, clearly just an old friend here to offer some comfort but mostly exploit connections
Ryan "Sexy Aegisthus" O'Neill - had a real sizzling chemistry with Clytemnestra, felt almost intrusive watching it, A+++, would voyeur over this casting again
Ali "Naïve Aegisthus" Goldsmith - like, he knew what he was getting into, but he didn't entirely get the full story of what he was getting into, and felt increasingly like a man who had got himself out of his depth but had to plough on with his commitments regardless

Showdown 2k25 - Submit Propaganda
Just like last year I want to kick January off with a flat popularity contest, showdown 2k25. (<- I wrote that in December before my laptop packed up, it'll now be after whenever I manage to get my laptop fixed) -
Laptop situation sorted: Start date 24th March 2024
Automatically competing - everyone from last year (list), with the following exceptions
Last years winner - Donna Noble
Rose Tyler as the 2023 winner, not going to start reintroducing winners at least until a non RTD companion wins, and I reckon that'll be next year, I think Martha is going to take this one
The TARDIS. I get it, it goes against my every instinct to exclude her, and while she didn't win the popularity contest I did include her in, it just doesn't feel fair, she transcends compaiondom.
Rules for new nominees (tardis wiki list referenced below)
Anyone on the list will automatically be accepted
TV companions MUST be on the list
EU companions not on the list will be considered on a case by case basis. If they meet a reasonable definition of companion I will accept them, basic guideline is has their own tardis wiki article so I can actually check, multiple stories with the Doctor, none of these guidelines are hard rules, if you can justify them to me (and I can follow the argument), I'll let them in
Propaganda is not carrying over from last year, if you want to go to bat for someone, use this same form - (There isn't a lot at the moment so more would be appreciated, you can check the list under the cut for who hasn't got any if you want, but multiple sets for one character is also good)
You can use this form to make multiple nominations/give multiple bits of propaganda at once.
Propaganda submissions will not close at any point. Nominations will likely close at the end of February/beginning of March, I'll give a definitive date once I have access to my laptop again. DATE: 24th March
list of (167) competitors, anyone in green has propaganda submitted for them (48 - that is about 29% so keep them coming) - I will endeavour to keep this list up to date, although it may not be completely perfect, if you think I am missing your submission let me know

No one asked but these are my headcanons for the men and their first on-screen crushes
Edit: when I say first I mean that I think these are crushes they developed when they were kids watching movies and getting awakened!
Gaz: Olivia Newton John (as she appears in Grease and Xanadu), Harry Belafonte and Dorothy Danridge (as they appear in Carmen Jones), general weakness to all Disney Princesses.
Soap: Meg Ryan (as she appear in When Harry Met Sally), Melanie Griffith (as she appeared in Body Double), Kurt Russel (as he appeared in The Thing and Escape from New York), Basically the entire main cast of Lair of the White Worm (that movie cooked his brain BAD), Sigourney Weaver (as she appears in Ghostbusters and Alien)
Ghost: Jennifer Connelly (as she appears in Labyrinth and Phenomena), Kyle McLachlan (as he appears in Dune and Blue Velvet)
Price: Steve Reeves (as he appears in the Hercules movies), Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen (as they appear in Forbidden Planet), Audrey Hepburn (as she appears in Wait Until Dark, Charade, and How to Steal a Million), Alan Arkin (as he appears in The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!), Shirley MacLaine (as she appears in The Apartment)
König: Carrie Fischer (as she appears in Star Wars), Veronica Cartwright (as she appears in Alien and Invasion of the Bodysnatchers), Yvette Mimeaux (as she appears in The Time Machine and Where the Boys Are), Mia Farrow (as she appears in Rosemary’s Baby and The Last Unicorn)
Nikolai: Divine (as she appears in Female Trouble and Polyester), Shelley Winters (any and all appearances, he was eating that UP), Alan Arkin (as he appears in The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!).
Rudy: Bette Davis (as she appears in The Man Who Came to Dinner and Now, Voyager), Rosalind Russel and Stella Stevens (as they appear in Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows), Isabella Rossellini (as she appears in Blue Velvet), Julie Andrews (as she appears in Mary Poppins, The King and I, and Victor Victoria)

Companion Orientation Headcanons
(just off the top of my head)
Susan: she's a Time Lord so, like all Time Lords (except Andred), she doesn't really have a concept of romance or an interest in either. The boy she settles down with isn't really romantic love so much as her first regular, normal friendship in decades
Ian: the straightest guy that has ever straighted
Barbara: has definitely kissed a woman. Several, actually, mostly on alien planets. But doesn't really think about her identity as such and continues to assume she'll marry a man eventually. And then she does (it's Ian)
Vicki: that girl is gay. Yes I KNOW how she left, shut up and let me have this
Steven: I think he's bi but from a time when the differentiation isn't as stark a thing and doesn't think about it much
Dodo: straight; she has enough to deal with
Ben and Polly: straight in the most boring way
Jamie: his orientation is the Doctor (whether or not this is requited is irrelevant). Actually, I was thinking more about this and decided I like the idea of him being ace. His romantic orientation is the Doctor. Hence, whether you want to see the two as a couple or more a qpr situation, just being together with him is enough
Victoria: very straight, but not in a brush-off boring way. It never occurred to her there were other options before traveling through space, and I think she was never really comfortable with the concept
Zoe: lesbian, because I said so
Liz: canonically bi, actually
Jo: bi, because I said so
Lethbridge-Stewart: the kind of old-fashioned bi where he's always had an interest in men but never acted on it
Yates: gay
Benton: token UNIT straight dude. Actually talked into kissing Yates one drunken night to be sure. He's sure
Sarah: (transmasc and) aroallo (bi but more into guys)
Harry: sigh, he's bi
Leela: never labels her sexuality but closest to pansexual, where she has an interest in people without concern for gender or presentation
Romana: a Time Lord, so no. Except when I want to ship her with Leela on occasion
Adric: gay and realized it right before meeting the Doctor
Nyssa: alloace (gay)
Tegan: bi and not fully comfortable with that
Turlough: gay in a pathetic Victorian boy way despite being (1) an alien and (2) living in the 80's
Peri: straight but has gay friends
Mel: aroallo (gay) and hangs out in queer spaces
Ace: (nonbinary and) aroace (I KNOW she has romances in the eu, let me have this)
Rose: the type of straight girl who at some point briefly went "men are terrible, I should try being gay"
Martha: bi and has an equal number of men and women as exes
Donna: demiromantic and bisexual
Amy: straight
Rory: ugh I don't like it but this guy is bi and had a high school boyfriend
Clara: canonically bi
Bill: canonically lesbian
Yaz: demi lesbian (is the lesbian part canon or just that she likes girls? I don't remember)
Ryan: alloace (straight)
Graham: straight, old enough he never really thought about it
Dan: straight
Ruby: idk dude, she's really young and probably midway through figuring out girls are cute
Anita: the Doctor's gay best friend

Post-Oscars blathering.
-Host Conan O'Brien had treats for attendees.
Tumblr media
-I felt bad for Jeremy Strong who lost out on Best Supporting for his incredible job as Roy Cohn in THE APPRENTICE. But I had far greater sympathy for the poor dog during the SNL 50th skit who just wanted petting from Adam Driver's huge paws. I mean, I yearn for Anora/Ani and Igor
Tumblr media
but the dog really yearned for those huge mitts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Rumoured divorcé Dan Stevens made the rounds with Natasha Lyonne, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hari Neff and his CUCKOO costar Hunter Schafer. I'm hoping he sloppily made out with Hunter and Hari.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has great taste, ladies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Oscars night was a time for reunions
Last year Best Actor winner Cillian Murphy was able to present to his one-time PEAKY BLINDERS costar Adam Brody.
Tumblr media
Cillian was so happy to escape the press line and just present!
Tumblr media
Little did he know that Brody would give the longest speech in Oscar history.
Tumblr media
At least you looked good, Cillian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GHOST costars Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore.
Tumblr media
THE SOCIAL NETWORK costars Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg.
Tumblr media
Garfield and rumoured paramour Monica Barbaro afterwards.
Tumblr media
THE LITTLE MERMAID's Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King.
Tumblr media
CONCLAVE's Carlos Dietz with Isabella Rossellini (and Laura Dern).
Tumblr media
Oscar presenters WHEN HARRY MET SALLY costars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.
Tumblr media
Brady Corbett and his THE BRUTALIST composer Daniel Blumberg.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blumberg looking like the twin cousin of ANORA's Yura Borisov.
Tumblr media
Isabella Rossellini reuniting with her potion prop from DEATH BECOMES HER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isabella Rossellini is a "nepo" baby, but here are some of the latest scions.
Milo Manheim - Son of Camryn, star of Paramount+'s SCHOOL SPIRITS.
Tumblr media
Charlie Foster - Son of Jodie Foster. He will appear in the upcoming Amazon Prime series SCARPETTA starring classic nepo baby Jamie Lee Curtis and Nicole Kidman.
Tumblr media
Kidman recently worked with the daughter of her MOULIN ROUGE costar Ewan McGregor in the film BABYGIRL. Esther McGregor played Kidman's oldest daughter. Esther can also be seen in Pedro Almodovar's THE ROOM NEXT DOOR.
Tumblr media
THE WHITE LOTUS S3 star Sam Nivola (son of Alessandro (The Brutalist) and Emily Mortimer (Paddington in Peru). He is dating Iris Apatow (daughter of Judd and Leslie Mann). Sam and his sister May were also in Noah Baumbach's WHITE NOISE playing the children of Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig; and Sam played son of Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein in MAESTRO (which also starred Maya Hawke, son of Ethan and Uma Thurman).
Tumblr media
There's also Asa Germann of Amazon Prime Video's GEN V (son of Gregg German (Grey's Anatomy, Ally McBeal). The series also featured Patrick Schwarzeneggar.
A sure entry to the entertainment industry for many a celebrity child is modeling. That's the path Deva Cassel (the eldest daughter of Vincent Cassel (who has just had his latest child; a boy, with partner Narah Baptista) and Monica Bellucci) forged after years of spending time with her mother on photo shoots.
Now she is acting. She can be currently be seen Netflix's IL GATTOPARDO/ THE LEOPARD; a six-part adaptation of the classic Italian novel, which was made into a three-hour film starring Burt Lancaster.
