Varian Makes Candy

A DTIYS Challenge I participated in. In my version, Varian makes candy for Cass as a goodbye gift when she leaves Corona. Ruddiger helps, of course. 😉

Varian and Hugo

Ha, you didn’t see them coming, aye?

Varian and Hugo! What are they doing here?

Well. When Varian was going through his villain era, he made himself some debts to a lot of not-really-nice people, including a few pirates. After his adventures with his own bunch of friends in “Varian and the Seven Kingdoms” (of which we were robbed) he was finally forced to pay it back. So – he needed money. So – he started to sell innovative (though often explosive) stuff to people who like innovative (though often explosive) stuff. Even on lower prices, if a buyer will come back with a review and notes.

As for now, Varian’s debts are long paid, but well, the Republic of Pirates kinds grew on him. He now has his own store and lab, run mostly by Hugo (as Varian resides mostly in Corona), where they research, develop, test and sell his potions and inventions – as a found family. The young alchemist is highly respected here, he met a few other inventors, engineers and magic specialists (although he still DOES NOT WORK WITH MAGIC) and is collaborating with them – all to push history on the way of great progress! But even with the best intention in hand, he would still prefer Rapunzel and Eugene to not know about his side hustle…

Did you notice those little tubes Hans wears on his vest and uses as diversion during battles/boardings/when someone is chasing him? Where do you think he buys it? He even has a special discount – “from one reformed villain to another”. He also helps testing new trinkets out - and Varian is always impressed by his detailed feedback.

I find it funny when people say that Hugo is the stronger of the two. Like, I know Donella trained him and all but have you looked at that man?? He's a freaking TWIG. Varian "grew up on a farm" Ruddiger could snap him in half without even trying

vat7k headcanons?

oh my gosh my time has come (you will probably regret this)

so first off imma reference my like three other posts i've made on the topic because i'm a nerd

starting with lgbt+ headcanons-

hugo is genderfluid and likes men i don't make the rules (he/she/they)

i am very much a trans varian truther. in my mind they use he/they pronouns and is also very biromantic

transing nuru's gender too- i love transfemme nuru (she/her) and also she's a lesbian definitely

yong gets the aroace nonbinary treatment

okay moving on to headcanons about languages-

its canon that varian speaks like three languages but i headcanon that he is fluent in coronan, saporian, and is learning the dark kingdom's language

hugo definitely knows so many languages because he gets around. i like to think he's fluent in ingvarran, coronan and bayangoran

i love the idea that yong is still learning coronan and that hugo sometimes has to translate for him or they repeat things for him sometimes because varian talks too fast or they use an unfamiliar word or like accents trip him up

on a seperate note in my mind coronan is german, bayangoran is mandarin, ingvarran is farsi (based on this post)

one of my favorite possible vat7k storylines is when hugo finds out about varian's past and i love the idea that he found out because of a wanted poster they found- perfect angst potential. on that note, i also believe that the rest of them would have heard about varian (the alchemist) when he was still wanted for example

hugo would have been told about him from donella, whether he was always told to be better and be like varian, or that he admired varian and thought he was really cool and dreamed of working with him

nuru had heard about him through horror stories about the kidnapping and attempted murder of the royal family. she most likely would have been scared of varian when she found out, not trusting him not to hurt her

i honestly think yong wouldn't understand. i don't think his parents would have told him if they even knew, and he would have been like seven at the time, so

hugo was varian's bi awakening except not really. he had liked guys before that but hadn't realized that was what he was feeling

they definitely met cass while on their adventures and she definitely had a girlfriend

ruddiger and prometheus hate each other

hugo is extremely jealous of ruddiger as well. ah yes him, his boyfriend, and his boyfriend's raccoon that's taking up all his attention

firmly believing in hugo showing up one day with period products because he might be a loser but he's not a jerk and nuru not knowing how to tell him she's trans while varian (also not out) comes up and just takes the pads being like 'thanks i needed these'

like in the sense that, if they were asked if they liked each other, they would be like ew gross no i hate this man

and then at the end of the conversation varian kisses hugo on the cheek and is just like see you at home babe and everyone is like w h a t

they argue nonstop, to the point of being violent, and then someone changes the subject and hugo's in varian's lap

"Yeah, this reminds me of Xavier's mood potion, only now, everyone can't help but tell the truth." Eugene stated from his observation. "Out of my way, Big Ears." The bard said to Eugene, passing through him. "Except for that guy. He had no idea what he's talking about." Eugene spoke hiding one of his ears. "If this is some kind of truth potion, we have to figure out how it got into the castle." Cassandra said on what to do. "Who was the first person you noticed being a little too honest?" Cassandra asked to Eugene who started to think. He first thought of Pete, as he brought him somewhere for questioning.

"Okay, Pete let's start at the beginning. Walk us through your day." Cassandra spoke to the guard. "And relax, just tell us what happened." Eugene said to Pete to tell him, Cassandra, Karoline and Mirage about his day. "Well, I woke up confused, because my mouth tasted like beans, but I had no recollection of eating beans the day prior." Pete explained as Eugene and Cassandra sat down looking bored. "Then I saw my cat, and I said, "Hello, Mr. Happy-Paws"! Who's a fluffernutter? Of course, he can't talk."

Meanwhile, back in the secret tunnels, Rapunzel continued to guide Varian, Bella and Skyler to find the Sundrop Flower. "Tripwire." Varian spoke as they walk over it. Pascal then saw a spider on the tripwire and was about to use his tongue on it. "Pascal, no! I need you to carefully let go of that spider." Rapunzel told to her chameleon friend, and he did so. Both Rapunzel and Varian sigh, until Ruddiger snaps the tripwire walking through it, causing the rubble above to fall. "Watch it!" Rapunzel shouted grabbing Ruddiger, somersaulting. "Everyone okay?" She asked. "We're getting closer to the surface. We don't want to alarm the guards." Rapunzel said to Varian as she joins back with him.

the next day in the kingdom of Corona, it was a typical normal day, until it ended when the stranger ran passed through the wanted poster that says 'Silent Striker'

"he went this way!" Stan shouted when he and Pete went after him, Mirage and Bella are being prepared to catch him too, the guard captain and the other guard got him surrounded
