ksp is a space & physics simulator sandbox game where you can build, launch, and fly (or crash) your own rocket in a fictional solar system that's similar to our own, with many unique planets and moons to explore. you can also build a plane if that's your thing, or a rover, or all three in one!!

the game has a big community around it that's still active despite the last major update being issued years ago!! the modding community is large and thriving, and there's a community mod installer that's maintained if you're having trouble installing stuff.

kerbal is easily one of my top three favorite games of all time, it has immense replay value and creativity is practically limitless. if you like sandbox games, simulators, and a game loop of "fuck around, find out, apply what you found out, and fuck around again" you will hopefully love this game

here are some screenshots of what you can do in kerbal space program!!

land on the moon (except it's spelled "mun" now) and plant a flag

send a rover to mars

send a BIGGER rover (with cat ears) to an icy moon of jool, the local green gas giant!

build cool space stations

launch an accurate replica of the saturn v that brought humans to the moon!

...and then blow it up on the launchpad

...and then strap some fuckin WINGS to it and fly it like a plane because that's how we roll at the kerbal space center

deploy relays of satellites in orbit and send probes to the far reaches of the solar system

build, fly, and safely(?) land spaceplanes and shuttles

make a penis shaped rocket

stick rockets on the side of a plane and then stick that on top of a bigger rocket to launch it into space

rendezvous with an asteroid and capture it

strap a guy to a lawn chair with a thruster and some fuel, and send him off to deep space (don't worry he's having fun)

whatever the fuck this thing is

anyways please get kerbal space program i need to introduce people to this wonderful wonderful game it's scientific it's engineering it's goofy it's fun it's literally a ROCKET SANDBOX what more can you ask for?? 75% off is a fucking steal!! what are you waiting for!!

- he's been called "a pleasure to have in class" since kindergarten

- tried contacts once, but hated the feeling of them on his eyes, so he sticks to glasses

- working in the flower shop has built up his resistance to seasonal allergies, he's the only one in the group who doesn't suffer through spring

- his grandparents had an old copy of Duck Hunt that he played obsessively as a kid

- has had many debates on Pluto's planet status ("Just because it's a dwarf planet doesn't make it less special, if you think it needs to be a planet, you're the problem!")

- has cried over the Mars rovers

- gets choice paralysis bad, especially over spending money

Aiden:

- pirates tv shows and movies, even ones he has the services for, bc "it's more fun that way"

- hates being too hot, would rather it be 25°F than 75°F

- favorite rollercoasters are drop rides

- plays the knife game (where you stab between your fingers, don't do it at home kids) at school with a pencil

- he was totally the kid that would eat live bugs if dared to

- because he moved around so often as a kid, he has an odd accent that just sounds vaguely American but is untraceable to any distinct region

- loves weird food combos like mustard on watermelon

- the group's record holder for longest time awake, once went four days without sleep (when asked why, he said "for fun :3")

Land Rover Defender Works 90 V8 "Islay Edition," 2023. A special edition restomod project by Land Rover's Classic division that celebrates 75 years of the iconic 4x4. The work can be carried out on any 2012-2016 Defender 90 and includes a comprehensive restoration, fitting a 400hp 5.0 V8 with an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox and interior retrimmed with  ‘Windsor Ebony’ leather. Explanation: Get out your red/blue glasses and check out this stereo scene from Taurus-Littrow valley on the Moon! The color anaglyph features a detailed 3D view of Apollo 17's Lunar Rover in the foreground -- behind it lies the Lunar Module and distant lunar hills. Because the world was going to be able to watch the Lunar Module's ascent stage liftoff via the rover's TV camera, this parking place was also known as the VIP Site. Fifty years ago, in December of 1972, Apollo 17 astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt spent about 75 hours on the Moon, while colleague Ronald Evans orbited overhead. The crew returned with 110 kilograms of rock and soil samples, more than from any of the other lunar landing sites. Cernan and Schmitt are still the last to walk (or drive) on the Moon.

Chapter 227 Trivia (Part 1)

I hope everyone's enjoying wondering who or what Senku saw in that black cloud…

The Medusa's capsule is a small radio receiver with a speaker to relay commands. This means that all the astronauts can speak to it, and since Whyman could pretend to be Senku, then they could have also activated the device directly.

Rather than all being on the same frequency, each astronaut has their own. This means they can all talk at the same time without needing to wait if someone else is transmitting, and also means they may have some sort of indicator for who's talking.

This means that Kohaku can hear Senku and Stanley talk, but she can't hear herself because her own frequency is blocked out to avoid echoes. This is why Senku doesn't seem to react to Whyman nor know what's going on, but Stanley reacts strongly. This is confirmed by Ukyo.

I wonder if the on/off includes receiving radio transmissions, or if it's just about the seal being on/off.

The current land speed record on the moon is only 18 km/h (11.2 mph) by the Apollo 17 Lunar Rover.

I feel like even with the reduced gravity, Stanley is driving faster than that.

The Taurus-Littrow valley was chosen as the destination for the Apollo 17 mission because of its geological value. It is located on the lunar highland (=not one of the dark patches) and has some volcanic material as well.

It's also got "orange soil" (volcanic glass beads).

Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon, but it was also the longest (<75 hours) and most ambitious. They collected 155kg (253lbs) of rock samples for analysis.

Nothing noteworthy seemed to have happened on this mission that could've pointed to Whyman's involvement.

An interesting coincidence…

The rover I believe was inspired by a very recent collaboration between JAXA and Nissan for an unmanned lunar rover. Notably it has a boxy body and no guards over any of the 4 wheels. It's obviously been redesigned to hold people, with elements taken from the NASA rovers.

The astronauts have variants of their names written on their backs: "STANLEE11" and "KOHAKO11". Senku's isn't fully visible but you can see what looks like an "-U11", so his may simply be "SENKU11".

So the capsule didn't open fully, going by the little black line drawn on the top, but it opened enough to break the seal, making the atmosphere inside escape.

It's interesting that Whyman chose to put the Medusa in a vacuum rather than simply using the radio/speaker directly: they obviously knew how the Medusa was being stored since they asked Kohaku to open it.

I'm not sure if Stan hit the brakes here or if he drove into a hole because he wasn't looking where he was going. If he hit the brakes, it seemed unhelpful since Kohaku was then spinning midair when she had to throw it.

You can also see Stan landing perfectly and Senku falling.

Another thing of note is that Kohaku seems to have snapped the string sometime between Stanley grabbing her wrist and her throwing it, which I think is impressive.

It's hard to tell because we don't know how far Kohaku threw it, but the radius of this one may be the same as the one that happened in chapter 213/214 (~20 meters according to Senku).

On the image it appears a little over 13 meters.

Bar talk

- Caitlyn Clark being battered in her first season in the WNBA and will be better for it. The women in the WNBA feel disrespected because a skinny white girl suddenly made them relevant.

- 3 fellas at the Rover suggested I stay and buy them a drink. Ok. We talked movies and documentaries about serial killers, bluegrass music, the Beatles, and I was offered a free murder or at least a beat down should I need one. I’d stopped in for a pint of ESB before driving home. I felt proper sober when the bar began to close down. My three, thirty-something bar buddy stooges tried to talk our bartender into, first, one more round then she should join them for a drink somewhere else. She said no.

- the idea of drinking Mezcal in Oaxaca has been aging in my brain pan like old bourbon. John, owner of Pretty Decent was telling me about the barrel pick he’d poured me. I said do you sign up for trips on your website? He stared at me, I said, “You need to know who you’re traveling with?” Bingo, he replied. K

- “Hi, I’m John. Want to come see the brewery.” Not really, I didn’t say. I followed him into the large open space full of towering fermenters and bright tanks, transformed from the GettoKroger into Noble Funk Brewing. Tbh, I’ve seen enough breweries to last a lifetime. I began by complementing him on the Tripel I was drinking. We talked about beer, I reminded him we’d met at the Hall on Washington where he was slinging beers and sausages. He reminded me that was five years before.

- another critter living under the porch. For weeks I’ve been unable to catch sight of it but it’s a noisy fucker. I thought it probably another groundhog. Yesterday, while sitting in my living room chair, the fucker, another ground hog, walked out onto the patio. I went upstairs, loaded the 12 gauge, quiet as an assassin I opened the balcony door. Fucking venomous spiders on webs interrupted me pause retreat. Yuck. Okay now, they’ve scurried off. No groundhog. Canny fucker.

- the 75 acre parcel next to us is in winter wheat. Love it! A couple weeks ago I barefooted it over to the neighbors. I think it’s winter wheat, they said yeah. They lease it to someone. Last fall, that someone dropped a triaxle load of chickenshit about a hundred feet from our house. This stuff is fantastic fertilizer but it’s full of tiny black beetles. Chicken shit beetles. They get in.

- it’s Sunday. I’m drinking De Garre on the patio. I’ve asked D to bring me a bucket of KFC. She’s in Lexington. A whole bucket she asked? You can have the white meat.
