RoboCop: Rogue City is the Pinnacle of RoboCop

RoboCop is a setting where Detroit has been utterly destroyed by offshoring and Liberal city policies. It is so bad as to...

justify RoboCop.

OCP is a Megacorp that is an inch away from buying a major American city. They have an ambitious plan that COULD do a lot of good for the city, but in their eyes, the population of the city is too shit to bother with. Best to wipe the slate clean.

No, they aren't trying to murder everyone. They are trying to get everyone else to murder everyone else, and then buy the real estate on the cheap. They are desperate to create a corporate dystopia.

And RoboCop isn't just an unkillable robot, he's also a cop. Hence the name. He literally is programmed to follow the law. He will literally refuse to breach a door without either permission or warrant.

What Rogue City does, though, is let you walk the crime-strewn back alleys that you know the only reason you can do so and survive is because you are RoboCop. You get to talk to the two mayoral candidates, and find out they are both utterly shit. Mills had me going, but literally one sentence late in the game sunk any support I had for him.

The game does the combat exceptionally well, without overstaying it's welcome. The serial escalation works perfectly. The armour's mooks makes perfect sense, because despite how pimped out it is, the Auto 9 is basically just a 3-shot 9mm, which you carry because RoboCop is a cop.

Fun fact:

There are a few places on the body that result in near instant death from a gunshot. People think the brain, but... it's amazing how much brain you can live without. The actual target is the medulla oblongata, which controls your involuntary moves, i.e. heart rate and breathing.

The medulla oblongata horizontally is right above the neck, which has 4 major arteries and the throat.

The chest has the heart and the major arteries surrounding it.

Let's say they wear a bulletproof helmet and body armour with gorget? What do you do?

The femoral artery in the groin will kill you in 30sec-ish. And this game accurately portrays this.

But equally well, it puts you into the (heavy) shoes of RoboCop. You have to make judgements about justice, talk to your coworkers and the public, talk to your shrink, who is one of the best done characters in the entire game.

Following an accident, Danny wakes up in Gotham City in a DC universe. Lacking any forms of ID or possessions beyond the clothes on his back, he’s forced to commit some crimes to survive. Minor crimes, but still.

And then he gets caught.

During the court proceedings, they come to the mistaken conclusion that he’s a Meta suffering from some psychiatric issues such as Cotard’s Syndrome (a real rare condition where a person holds the delusional belief that they’re dead/don’t exist/etc).

Thus, between his “need for mental treatment” and the concerns about housing someone with his unique physical traits, he is sentenced to spend time in Arkham Asylum. He’s under pretty low security aside from the anti-Meta stuff and has more freedoms than some other inmates, but it’s still not a great experience. Even at the best of times, Arkham is hardly a nice place.

Some of his fellow residents are decently chill all things considered, but lots very much aren’t.

Rogue City is retrofuture Sci-Fi with giant CRT monitors. '80's hair is everywhere, and women wore skirts.

I think we're going through cliché terrorist groups by order of increasing discipline, and the villain just screams 80's villain.
