to this day it cracks me tf up that rock lee passed the academy with zero ninjutsu skills whatsoever but naruto kept failing because he couldn't do one specific technique

i LOVE how deranged the Naruto characters are allowed to be on occassion without Kishimote even really thinking about it. Kishimoto will casually be like 'the first thing Kakashi EVER does as a teacher is put FRESHLY graduated Sakura into See Your Worst Fears No Jutsu as a fun little test teehee' 'oh shit team 8 didn't get a cool moment during the chunin exams. uhhh they like. fed 12 children to bugs idk' 'UM okay lee, at age 13, is a master of the drunken fist. don't think about that for too long' 'haha so get this right. Shikamaru is, like, PRETTY pissed Asuma dies, so he subjicates his killer to The Horrors Forever and never thinks about him again. smart guy great guy love that guy' like. say what you will about Kishimoto but. He COMMITS to the 'my characters are ninja with ninja moral codes' bit and they've all got SUCH warped concepts of 'proportionate punishment' and 'how to treat children without traumatizing them' and 'what counts as torture, technically?'
