Gotham Inception Fic
Aka: a Gothamite writes fanfiction about the Batfam and the Wayne family like step-families.
All inspired by @jasontoddiefor's post here:
Obviously fans are going to wildly mischaracterize everyone, especially the BatFam so I'm seperating each person's character traits into their civilain ID and their persona. Some of these are grossly incorrect in any kind of canon or fanon but this is from the perspective of a Gothamite.
Dick (Richy):
Everyone gave up on using Dick as his name because it kept getting flagged everytime so they decided on Richy. He confirmed in an interview that he prefers Dick because English wasn't his parent's first language and when they gave him a white name, they didn't know what dick meant until they had already been using it too long.
Way stereotyped. Both as Romani and as a former circus performer.
Goofy, smiley, more of a puppy than anything.
Doting on his family.
Nightwing ():
Human thristtrap.
Oversexualized and flirty af.
Gets very angry easily (stemming from his early Robin days)
Overprotective (of family, of his partner, of Y/N, etc.)
Cool in a way that teenagers think is cool.
Richi taught him acrobatics.
Jason:
Dead lol
Still legally dead and out of the view of the public.
Everyone writes angst about his death.
Made out to be this sweet little uwu baby.
They do guess correctly that if he was brought back, he'd be pissed he was "replaced".
Red Hood (Liam):
Woobified
His "real" name came from him quoting Shakespeare in public and so got called William which turned into Liam because Will was not a cool enough name for him.
Daddy issues af
A lot less violent that in reality.
Brucie has guilty resentment about him coming back but not Jason.
Only shows up to work with Batman on cases that involve his terf.
Hates Brucie with a burning passion and doesn't explain why.
Tim:
More uptight. Kinda like Damian's fanon calling everyone "peasants" thing but less outspoken.
Secretly thinks he should be the only son of Wayne but when Wayne Enterprises was given to him, it quelled most of the jealously.
Kind of the "bad guy" and/or the pessimist in most fanfics.
Basically a semi-spoiled rich kid who inherited his daddy's company.
It's debated whether he's actually a compitant boss or if he's more like Brucie was and everyone else does his work for him.
A small group of fans insist that he's stereotped into being the bad guy and he isn't actually that bad in real life. (Most of these are the Batfam trying to raise Tim's spirits.)
Red Robin (Rhett Robbie):
Yes his name is a reference to his vigilantie name.
Nerd
I can't really think of more for him rn
Damian:
More shy than snobby.
Overwhelmed with suddenly having a large family.
Covers up his negative feelings with either anger or coldness.
Doesn't speak much.
More affectionate than irl.
Snow White (ie: someone found out about the zoo he keeps at the manor and everyone thinks it's cute.
Robin (Taj):
I will murder you with a smile.
Has to be kept on a BatLeash (patent pending) at all times so he doesn't kill all of the criminals.
Complete Middle Eastern/ninja stereotype
They do get his desire to be the only BatKid because he's "actually" Batman's son.
According to the internet (which is exactly where a fan writer would go for name inspiration) Malik means crown in Arabic.
Bruce (Brucie):
Still very much a himbo.
Mischaracterized as "the wife" when shipped with Batman
Some people insist that Damian got his animal adoption problem from Brucie's child adoption problem.
All of his one night stands after parties are fake b/c he'd never cheat on Batman.
A little too dependant on hard liqour when left alone because Jason is dead/he's worried about Batman dying on patrol/etc.
Secretly depressed.
Would 100% kill a villain if they were after his kids (batkids included) and he had an opportunity.
Was taught in-depth selfdefense before Batman even considered a first date.
Batman (???):
I can't think of a good name for Batman. If you can think of something better, please add it.
His Batman persona sticks around even when the cowl is off.
Usually a redhead with green eyes because they suspect he's BatGirl's bio dad.
"Do the butts match?"
Loves his kids and Brucie's kids but is emotionally consipated and doesn't show it well.
Has a tragic backstory.
Childhood friends with Brucie.
He doesn't use guns because they're a huge trigger for Brucie.
I am absolutely not the authority of this kind of AU. If anyone has Corrections or additions they want to add please do. If there's enough additions and Corrections on this post, I will eventually I will make another post with everything added and corrected.
Yes I know I need to add Duke, Cass, Stephanie, Barbara, Alfred, maybe Clark Kent, etc. I will make a sequel post with them in it or I will just include them when I make the masterpost.

Keep reading for:
Jedi's dad sucks
Gwen's powers
Robbie asks to be thrown
Ash tries to place where she is based on accents
I'm not even kidding I looked through every single thing I've written, I've never used any variant of "drum" as a verb but I want to put something here so idk here's Gwen playing with her sticks
William's science babble
Robbie and Akash meet Ewan
This angsty passage from an older Draft of TSP was the only instance of sever I could find
Robbie helps Kelsey
Fish - from The Secret Portal Part One (Jedi POV)
“You mean besides the fact that he’s a—” “Yes, Taylor, besides that.” “No, it seems like I wasn't informed,” Dadaidh said. “Enlighten me.” Something about the way he said that made me extremely interested in the way the cooked meat of the fish looked after I had shoveled a good portion of its body into my mouth.
Run - from The Secret Portal Part One (Gwen POV)
I heard Dr. Asghar and Dr. Moon run after me, but I didn’t stop. I had a good head start and was faster. I reached the vase I’d seen and gave a mental apology for knocking it over. Dr. Asghar swore loudly as I skidded around the corner and ran down that hall until I realized I reached a dead end. I whipped around but saw Dr. Asghar and Dr. Moon at the start of the hallway. I froze. “Where’d she go?” Dr. Asghar asked, panting. “I don’t know,” Dr. Moon said. He looked around. “She had to have turned here. Her powers must have activated.” I stood there in confusion. Looked behind me, looked back at them. What powers? How could they not see me? I decided not to think too much about it and be thankful that they couldn’t while trying to make my heavy breathing quiet down.
Screech Scream - from The Secret Portal Part One (Rose POV)
I was shaking, panting—I didn’t, couldn’t, break my gaze from the beast until I heard Robbie scream, “Hit me!” “What?!” Noelle asked. “Telekinetically throw me against the wall!” “I’ve only lifted a hair-tie!” “Then physically throw me!” “What?!”
Down - from The Secret Portal Part One (Ash POV)
“Um, where exactly, uh, do I go?” “Just on the other side of those trees,” he said, pointing. Wow, I could not place his accent. Vaguely East Asian, maybe European? How observant, Ash, great way to narrow it down. It's not like there’s 5 billion people you narrowed the world to. It was different than the girl’s, though, so that definitely didn’t help.
Drumming Drumsticks - from The Secret Portal Part One (Maddie POV)
Rose sighed and stood up, neglecting to brush the grass of her pants. “Well, wherever Lexi and Ash are, I think it has something to do with that rock.” “The rock?” Noelle said, not buying it. Rose slid her hands into the pockets of her jeans. “I mean, yeah. It’s buzzing, like the wall.” “I don’t hear any buzzing,” Noelle muttered. “Me neither,” I agreed. “I… don’t either,” said Kelsey. “Sorry, Rose.” Gwen cringed, now tapping the drumstick on her palm.
Far - from The Secret Portal Part One
William put down his tablet and rubbed his eyes beneath his glasses. He’d been working so late that it was now early. It was so quiet he could hear the snakefly behind him violently flapping its wings. He sighed, then reread the last paragraph he’d written: Replicating the negative energy density found in a chronokinetic’s rifts is no easy task. The level needed to connect one time to another is far greater than a Level-7 teleporter, but nowhere near the level in the portal that connects our reality to Ceteri, nor even a dimensiokinetic. If chronokinetics were less seldom, perhaps this task would be accessible.
Pale - from The Secret Portal Part One (Robbie POV)
“Alright,” I said. “Remember the way?” Akash shrugged. “Not really.” I sighed. “Fantastic.” “Dude, you’re the one who walked it!” “I didn’t think I’d have to memorize the path!” I sighed. I leaned Ariel against a nearby tree, freeing my arms to cross over my body. “Okay, let me think.” “You two lost?” I turned to see a pale, dark-haired teenager leaning against a nearby tree. “Last time somebody asked that question, we were kidnapped.”
Sever - from The Secret Portal Part One (Draft Four)
How far will you go for a friend? That’s the real question, isn’t it? What will it take to sever a friendship? If they make a mistake, will you believe that they will come back? Maybe wait. Maybe do what’s right for everyone, but deep down, you will still die for them.
Command(ed) - from The Secret Portal Part One (Lexi POV)
I stood back, hugging myself as Robbie knelt in front of Kelsey. He pressed his fingers to her temples, and Kelsey shuddered—maybe in relief. A soft maroon glow emanated from Robbie’s fingertips. The darkness beneath Kelsey’s skin began to fade, and it traveled up Robbie’s arms, that same menacing glow radiating beneath his skin. After a moment, he released his grip from Kelsey, who let out a sharp gasp, the light gone. Robbie stood, closing his eyes. The darkness now inside him turned into a bright maroon. “Shut your eyes!” he commanded. I obeyed, and through my eyelids, I could still see a sharp white light blaring. I squeezed my eyes tighter, though water still seeped out the edges. The light faded.

2025 reviews part: Leda and Cygnus are some presumable number of years old as of the current story.
How many? Don't know they seem to have perfected anti aging. Honestly obsessed with this week's previews. Also i'll be continuing the suggestion drawings tomorrow, i'm just trying to finish school work for tomorrow night so that i have more time at the weekend (I get Fridays off now). onto my thoughts.
In Your Eyes (Remix): I love how confident Leda is here. Also the young Mihaly in the back, Also Cygnus with Short hair. I don't really like The Weeknd but this is a really cool map, like Leda's owning it here. If only she didn't turn evil. I mean i love all of Night swan/Leda's maps so no surprise that i would like this one as well.
Padam Padam: This one looks like its going to be sore. Fast and flows really well. Its nice to see that we might get Kylie minogue songs more regularly now. I really want them to do the Robbie Williams song she was featured on, Kids, like i think that would make a good map.
My Heart Will Go On: Completely unexpected and I love this one so much. Like they went full couples karaoke and brought all the cheesiness with it. Its going to suck doing this one solo because it would be so good to do with another person. I hope that it ends with them doing the pose from titanic. It'd be really funny if they straight up name these two Jack and Rose. Can we get more maps like this where its just karaoke. Like the performers seem to have gotten really into it which just adds to why i like it.
Dubidubidu: Is Kitta a mother now? also i found out this song is from 2003 and not this year so theres that. Like Padam Padam this one looks really fast, but also really fun at the same time. Honestly the song is catchy, and i watch those block breaking videos that use it allthe way through just to hear it some times.
Pink Venom (Extreme): I don't really think Pink venom needed an extreme, the song isn't that high energy, and when i saw a clip of the official choreography i was like, yeah the classic seems like enough. Because even that clip of the official choreo i saw wasn't that hard, unless it gets harder.
The ranking:
Joint first: In Your Eyes, Padam Padam, My Heart will Go on, Dubidubidu
2 Pink Venom Extreme
So how old are The Traveller, Night Swan and Cygnus currently. Like they have to be at least in their late 40s to early 50s. Like Night Swan And the traveller both have adult children who are presumably in their early to mid 20s. Then Cygnus, who i sorta assumed was quite old already (because he has been said to have built that city), but he still looks young in beggin.
Now we've seen a young Jack and Mihaly, so i'm assuming we'll see a young Wanderlust and Brezziana at some point. They should show more coaches when they were younger like Beedabop as a computer chip, The I will Survive coach when they were alive (being alive is technically younger than being dead), Kapyy as a five year old eating crayons, the list is endless
We are now officially two weeks (well one week and six days) from the release date, which feels so weird because i'm pretty sure this is the earliest a game in the series has come out. Its also weird that its October now like wasn't it just August yesterday? I'm annoyed that the update yesterday removed the "opus" sorting option and ordered all the plus tracks in the style that unlimited was. I hope for the first season they add opus back, i just preferred seeing it all alphabetically by game. I'm still confused about how back in JD2021 and 2022 they removed default alphabetical sorting.

WIP Snippet
Thankfully, the cemetery was almost empty, other than a few mourners here and there. With the help of a friendly groundskeeper, they found his grandfather’s grave without much trouble.
Joshua placed the bouquet on the ground with shaking hands, straightening and staring down at the headstone.
William Smith, beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
They stood for a long time in silence, neither of them really knowing what to say. A few tears spilled but Joshua swiped them away. The reality of the moment was hitting him hard internally. Despite having the knowledge his grandfather had passed, he hadn’t been able to really process it properly, the fact he’d never hear from his grandad again, but this was quite literally etched in stone. His grandfather was gone, dead and buried, here for eternity. A wave of grief washed over him and he sobbed, Robbie holding his friend as long as he needed him to.
Joshua’s fingers gripped Robbie’s jacket as he cried himself out, grateful that he wasn’t here alone. Eventually, he had to lift his head and gulp down air, gladly taking the tissue Robbie offered him; he had obviously prepared well this morning. Patting him on the back, the pair gave one last look at the headstone, and Robbie laughed through his nose, Joshua shooting him a look.
“I still can’t get over the fact your last name’s Smith. How boring.”
Joshua shoved the laughing man away from him with a smile. Kissing the tips of his fingers, he pressed them against the cold stone and told his grandad he loved him.
This trip hadn’t been nearly as painful as his anxiety had led him to believe it would be. Or at least it wouldn’t have been if he hadn’t turned around to lock eyes with his aunt, the both of them wearing the same shocked expression.

Johnny Depp in Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch, 1995) Cast: Johnny Depp, Gary Farmer, Lance Henriksen, Michael Wincott, Eugene Byrd, John Hurt, Robert Mitchum, Iggy Pop, Jared Harris, Billy Bob Thornton, Mili Avital, Gabriel Byrne, Crispin Glover, Alfred Molina. Screenplay: Jim Jarmusch. Cinematography: Robby Müller. Production design: Bob Ziembicki. Music: Neil Young. It was probably inevitable that Jim Jarmusch and Johnny Depp, two of American film's best-known off-beat artists, would collaborate, and it seems appropriate that they should do it in that quintessentially off-beat American genre, the "stoner Western."* Unfortunately, for some viewers the film just feels stoned: slow, meandering, and fixated on images that refuse to yield up their significance. It is, I think, one of those films that are more involving to think about after watching them, which is why its reputation has grown since its initial release, when Roger Ebert, among other critics, dismissed it as "unrewarding." It opens with a long montage of young accountant William Blake's (Depp) westward train journey from Cleveland to the end-of-the-line factory town called Machine, a name that suggests the real manifest destiny of the United States was the spread of industrial capitalism. Blake is on his way to a job with the Dickinson Metalworks in Machine, and is unaware that he shares a name with the poet and artist who was one of the great enemies of industrial capitalism. He dozes through spectacular scenery that has filled the great Westerns -- a reminder that before there were movies there were train windows. But when he arrives in Machine, no job is waiting for him, and his protests are futile when he demands to see Mr. Dickinson, who turns out to be the always-formidable Robert Mitchum in his last screen role. Moreover, that night he kills Dickinson's son in self-defense and, wounded himself, flees town on a stolen horse. Dickinson immediately hires a trio of gunmen to kill him. Blake is found half-dead from his wound by an Indian (Gary Farmer), who patches him up but also tells him that the bullet is lodged near his heart and he will die from it eventually. The Indian is called Nobody because he belongs to no tribe, having been abducted by white men as a child and taken to England to be exhibited. He was educated there and learned to love the art and poetry of William Blake, so naturally he proclaims the hapless accountant a reincarnation of the poet. And so Blake and Nobody begin an odyssey toward the Pacific, a picaresque in which Jarmusch manages to cross an adventure story with a satiric look at the failure of American ideals, using bits of Blake's prophetic verse as a running commentary. (Remarkably, quotations from Blake turn out to sound much like the kind of wisdom usually ascribed to Native Americans in the movies.) It's to Jarmusch's credit that this high-concept blend becomes as moving as it often is, especially, as I've suggested, in retrospect. *Jarmusch referred to Dead Man as a "psychedelic Western," but aside from the scene in which Nobody, under the influence of peyote, sees the skull beneath William Blake's skin, it doesn't have the conventional distortions and hallucinations associated with movie psychedelia.

𝙲𝙾𝙾𝙻𝚂𝚅𝙸𝙻𝙻𝙴 𝟷𝟿𝟿𝟻.
t a g g i n g : fred jones sr, judy reeves, brad chiles.
t i m e f r a m e : summer 1995
l o c a t i o n :  coolsville
n o t e s : zulema said it’s finally time to expand the coolsville cinematic universe. for more insight to the foolery read freddy’s self-discovery para.
when the town of coolsville comes to mind you don’t think of the white picket fences, family barbecues in the summertime heat or pleasantville USA. No, you think of the deaths, the monsters, the mysteries that run deep within the town. for years, mayor jones has tried his best to bury the past. He wanted to present this squeaky clean image. a town you could raise a family in, after all, his family was the mold. perfect mayor & father and perfect son.
and if he couldn’t do that, he would just bank on how marketable the town was.
not everyone could keep up with the joneses after all.
judy reeves knew that all too well. her curiosity is what ultimately lead to her demise. had she only stopped digging perhaps she could’ve had the white picket fence dream her boyfriend always dreamed for them and their son.
being a coolsville native, judy always knew there was something off about the town. bad things always happened to coolsville inhabitants. the neighbouring city of hallow falls seemed to have the same luck, not as bad, she thought. sure, they had the myth of the sanderson sisters but at least people didn’t die every couple of years in their town. coolsville didn’t have that luck. she could tell you the stories of each killer by heart. she had memorized them, found an interest in it like every teen had.
captain cutler, miner-forty-niner, creeper, fireball mcphan, ben ravencroft, jonathan jacobo, lena dupree and most recently tommy lomis. all infamous for the crimes they had committed against the town. all now stories told to scare children. but judy knew there was more to it. these weren’t stories or just random happenings. it was a curse.
coolsville was cursed.
over the years the stories no longer struck fear into the hearts of the people of coolsville. the last spree had happened in 1978 at the now demolished camp Grimwood. The Jones family had seen to it that the camp would be gone in hopes for the town to move on. They had healed now. it felt right to go back to a life or normalcy. it’s what brad had wanted for them - especially when their son robbie came along.
judy reeves and brad chiles, high school sweethearts turned young parents had always been stuck to each other’s side through thick and thin. Judy a bright girl with an extraordinary future before her. at least, that’s what everyone said. valedictorian,  prom queen, top of her class and just over all a wonderful girl. everyone believed she was going places until she found herself shacked up with brad chiles, the boy from the other side of the tracks who was nothing but trouble. they all said the moment they met her life was over. when she got pregnant her senior year of high school everyone believed it to be true. another waste of a perfectly good future. it’s why the elite of coolsville stayed on their side.
but Judy had never been like them. she wasn’t a classist asshole like her parents. Brad wasn’t some fun little side project either. she genuinely loved him and their son who game into the world on graduation. she didn’t need fancy titles, nice cars or riches to make her happy in life. the family she had created with brad was enough. life was perfect in her eyes
that is until her brother murdered innocent people.
it was a late summer in june. Brad’s brother, Jacob, who worked at the local mall was on a closing shift. He was supposed to return home just like he always did but instead they received a call from sheriff stone. Jacob was dead. Not only that he had murdered five people at the mall including his best friend, Alice May. The only way to stop him was a shot through the head.
Judy couldn’t believe it. She refused to believe it. Brad’s brother would never do such a thing. Jacob was a good kid he wasn’t capable of murder. there was only one reason as to why he would behave in such a way.
the curse.
it had to be the curse. Judy was so sure of it. There was no way Jacob could ever do such a thing.
“There has to be some knowledge about it.” Judy said as she looked through books in the local library.
“babe, it’s late. we’ve been at this for hours. we’ve found nothing.” which is exactly what brad expected. he didn’t have the heart to tell his girlfriend to stop. nor did he have the heart to tell her that trying to place a curse on his brother’s actions didn’t help the grieving process.
“brad, I know there has to be something here. everyone chants about that damn curse and spit it in your face. they write it on the walls, for christ sa-” a hand fell on judy’s hand during her tangent.
“our son is at home.” was all brad said and judy stopped to look at him with sad eyes. as much as her stubbornness wanted to keep pushing for answers Judy knew that Robbie was waiting for them at home. Another day, she thought. another day she’d try it again. for now, she would go home and take care of her son.
.....
as much as brad wanted judy to stop her wild goose chase he knew she would never stop. by the end of june he had enough of it. they fought more about her trying to break this silly curse than anything else. he had made peace with what happened with his brother why couldn’t judy just leave it the fuck alone?
“there is no curse judy!” he yelled, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.
“Yes there is, brad! Why do you think bad things keep happening to this town? consistent murders don’t just happen like they do here.”
“people are monsters. what do you expect? it can’t all be sunshine and rainbows. I know the north side taught you that it was.” there was a silence that fell over them.
“I didn’t mean-” fuck, but he did, didn’t he? he resented judy at times because she came from privilege because she lived in the land of white picket fences and green lawns and he came from the side of the town where your brothers killed innocent people.
“I know that I had it much easier than you. You don’t have to throw that in my face. but why can’t you just believe me? The stories-”
“they’re just ghost stories, judy.”
she turned away from him, not wanting brad to see the tears welling up in her eyes.
“but they’re not.”
.....
it turns out her relentless searching wasn’t for nothing. on her journey for the truth she discovered two of her classmates, Cassidy Williams and Ricky Owens, were believers of the curse as well. in fact, they had a uncovered more clues than judy had alone.
the curse, was believed to be brought upon by annabeth fier. a witch from hallow falls. it was said she cursed the town for hanging her and every so years she came and exacted her revenge on coolsville for what they had done to her.
for the first time it made sense. a town full of mysteries and this had to be the biggest one of all. Ricky and Cassidy held the biggest clue of all - an occult book with information on the curse and a path to the witches mark. it felt like a long shot and maybe it was but it was also the closest judy had gotten to the truth. she couldn’t give up now that she was close. the truth was being dangled before her. if she could prove that the curse was real maybe she could also break it as well.
although things were tense between her and brad he had promised to accompany her on the journey. not without a price of course. if this turned out to be a hoax, as he believed it to be, he made judy promise him this is the last that she’d ever bring up the curse. it was the deal judy had agreed to. she would do just about anything to bring back some normalcy between her and brad again. she knew he was mostly going for his own peace of mind since he didn’t trust the stranger leading judy on her wild goose chase.
the four of them were going to uncover the truth of coolsville.
......
The witches mark was located until the coolsville mall which is where the grimwood camp massacre took place. the mall was reopened now that a month had passed after the murder. judy could tell brad was tense sitting the the driveway. the pain would never go away, the wound was still too fresh. there was a wave of guilt that washed over judy as she stared at the building before her.
Cassidy’s uncle worked as a janitor for the mall so they had access to the place after dark. the only way to get under was to get in. after strategic planning the four made their way into the building once closed. From the looks of the map the closest entrance was a grate near the emergency exit. it was a tight squeeze but the four of them managed to get in.
it was dark and cold. the underlying tunnels under the mall were cave like. the further they ventured the more the air in the channels seemed to shift. there was buzzing in the distance of what seemed like flies and a pounding? why was there pounding in caves. It sounded like a heart, beating rhythmically in time to theirs. it seemed to grow louder, faster the four swore the ground beneath them was vibrating. as they continued the once barren cave was now grown with red moss, littering every inch of the walls around them and soon they found themselves at the heart of it all.
etched out before them was the same symbol in the book cassidy was holding. the witches mark. The four of them stared at it in awe until ricky’s voice broke the silence. “Yo, guys y’all might wanna see this.” the trio turned to see giant slabs of stone before them with writing present on each one. judy got closer to see what was written before her.
captain cutler, miner-forty-niner, creeper, fireball mcphan, ben ravencroft, jonathan jacobo, lena dupree, tommy lomis and jacob chiles.
all the names of the coolsville killers.
“Every single person written here went on a killing spree.” Ricky said softly as he began to reach out to touch the stone but was abruptly stopped by brad.
“So what does that mean someone’s playing god and forcing people to do this shit?” brad spat, his eyes staring intently at his brother’s name.
“Close.”
a voice called from the distance.
“I wouldn’t call it god.” from the shadows of the tunnel appeared Fred Jones, the mayor’s son. coolsville’s golden boy in every single way. The Jones family was one of if not the wealthiest family in town with immense power in their hands. the way he was staring at the four of them left judy’s stomach uneasy.
“how do you know about this place?” she asked, pretending to not hear the latter part of his statement.
“better question, why are you and how did you get that?” he said, nodding towards the book that cassidy was now holding close to her chest.
“Don’t make me ask you again or else-” judy started but was promptly cut off. “Or else what? you’re going to cry curse again? my god, Judy, you’ve turned into the town nut. who’s going to listen to a word you say? after you’ve lost your status shacking up with that southside trash no one is going to care what you think. I mean, if you dump him maybe they would but with that brat of yours....” and as if on cue another figure emerged from the shadows carrying a sleeping robbie in their arms. “no one will ever believe you again.”
At the sight of their child, Brad began to lunge towards Fred but was halted by a raised finger and a a string of tsks. “You wouldn’t want to wake the baby now would you?”
“What do you want, Fred?” Judy croaked out, her hand placed on Brad’s arm as she tried to keep her boyfriend at bay. she was barely keeping her own composure.
“I want the book. It belong to my family. I also want your compliance. The four of you know too much. I can’t have you silly little wannabe sleuths exposing the truth. So i want you gone. All of you are to leave coolsville before sunrise. that is, if you’d like to live of course. Give me any problems or tell a soul about any of this and i’ll make sure brad’s name is right under his brothers.” he paused to look brad dead in the eyes who was now looking as pale as a ghost. “you’ll only remember bits and pieces of killing them, Bradley but I know you’ll remember the sound of their screams and their blood on your hands.” the wicked grin on fred’s face struck fear into the very core of all four of them.
“and to make sure no funny business occurs. i’m keeping him. for collateral.” Fred added as baby robbie was placed into his arms. and at that the four of them were being escorted out of the cave by fred’s goons. judy doesn’t remember much. the entire situation was a haze of emotions. the next thing she remembered was driving away in brad’s van, an unsettling silence hanging over them as tears streamed down her face. the sunset before them was a sign that day was here once again. how could she begin to think of a new day when her entire world had been shattered in an entire night?
she should have listened to brad and stopped searching for answers in ghost stories.
that’s all they weren’t after all.
stories.
......
looking down at the child in his arms fred’s brows furrowed as his index finger caressed the smooth cheek of the child. It caused the baby to stir but never waking up. Fred almost found it endearing. almost. There was no time for attachments. There was a prophecy to be continued. the baby in his arms was the key for their success.
“Dad always said I needed an heir. you’ll be just perfect won’t you, freddy?”
......
freddy looked down at the book in front of him. when he searched his father's belongings he had found the book hidden next to his files. after the monsters had attacked freddy looked to the book for answers. he was going to show the gang but with all that was going on how could he bring up coolsville mysteries when they were fighting for their lives? he knew how to read a room.
so now here he was alone in his room looking at the book. he hadn’t dare open it since he brought it back. what laid within it scared freddy more than anything but if he was going to get answers about his father he needed to start here.
why else would his father have this if it wasn’t important?
so he opened it only to find that the curse was true. the one he had heard stories of that his father said was nothing but bullshit. just like his pretend mysteries.
the only way to break the curse was to unite hand with body.

My Favorite Films and Performances of 2020
“I wish I could’ve seen it on the big screen.”
It was a strange year, and even stranger year of movie watching. In 2020 I saw only one of my top films in a theater, which is crazy (like much else over these past months). But the experience of keeping up with the movies this year was a reminder that great filmmaking can transcend the specifics of the viewing experience. In your living room, in bed, projected onto the side of a garage, streaming on Twitch, broken up into multiple sittings, maybe even on your phone (desperate times)… if doesn’t matter as long as it connects with you. A great film has the power to soothe and transport, to alter your perspective, to re-wire your brain. So while I didn’t get on a single airplane last year, I definitely went places. And I’m grateful for these changes of scenery. For the time-travel as well; last year in my house, we found great comfort in revisiting a bunch of old favorites. It was also an opportunity to finally watch a number of those older films that had someone evaded us… a year of catching up, now or never. We were members of a weekly movie club for some months — that was cool. Another pleasant silver lining was the emergence of virtual film festivals, which have been a fantastic opportunity. I hope that they can continue in some form when this pandemic is in the rearview. Because, you know, getting to Park City is a real schlep. All this to say: like you, I’ll always remember 2020. In this truly crummy year, the movies really helped.
I’m including some of the film festival stuff that’s coming out a little later, because the boundaries between 2020 films and 2021 films feels blurry to me without proper theatrical releases.

POSEIDON’S TOMB  /  ‘YOU CUT ME YOU CUT THE BOY’ DRABBLE
tl;dr; here i am torching the entire canon version of this scene nearly four years later. it’s actually been a creative urge of mine for a while to revisit this part of dmtnt, but i finally got around to it after a little nudge from @lighthouseborn and therefore this is specifically dedicated to hannah <3
                                                               ~ ~ ~
If Henry uncharacteristically barrelling towards the two of them hadn’t been the first sign of something being amiss, then there were two others: the boy’s speed, and his stance. Henry’s tuition with the blade was something of a patchwork of several different influences back on Shipwreck, one of which being Jack’s own ( whenever the boy wasn’t more content to scrappily solve an altercation with his fists, which was always his go-to preference ). While not being the superior swordsman himself, and having adapted his form and bent the rules of the engagement over the years to suit his own whims, Jack knew the boy’s approaching stance right now was one of somebody who had been schooled in the art of precision fencing for years ---- more akin to the boy’s father or even the man with whom Henry shared a name. It most certainly was not, could not, did not belong to the lad who he’d had to chastise on several occasions for holding a sword more like a blunt instrument than a tool --------------
No, Jack knew who this was. He didn’t know how it was possible ( when did he ever? ), but he knew.
The next few seconds passed by in a blur. Jack could only remember drawing his own blade, shoving Carina aside, and throwing himself forward ( in a rash move that would no doubt win him both Henry and William’s approval ) to meet Henry’s first strike with a shattering clash that rung out throughout the length of Poseidon’s tomb.
The fact of the matter was that Captain Salazar was a much better swordsman than him. He also had the benefit of years on Jack if he was indeed using Henry as some sort of vessel, as well as a seething, roiling anger at the supposed injustice dealt to him that would see his stamina extend further than it might have done otherwise. These were all the things that Jack was sizing up as he went through the motions, parrying each blow as it arrived, trying to figure out his strategy to buy Carina enough time to get herself over to the trident and solve the final part of her diary.
And then there were the things not to size up, but to swallow down and put to the back of his mind. That this was Henry staring him down with the look of a man who had wanted him dead for decades. That this was a familiar, always warm, always loving set of brown eyes now regarding him with such contempt. It was difficult to meet them and not contemplate the less rational questions of the moment. How Salazar had accomplished this. How Jack might even start to think about reversing it. Whether there was a chance in Hell that the Trident might in fact help matters, not make them worse.
How he was planning to live with himself should the unimaginable happen.
The last question was enough to re-align his thoughts like tacking a sail back to windward. Emotion made you vulnerable to mistakes and sloppiness. Much like Salazar’s anger exposed his own weak spots. And, as Jack raised his blade to block another blow and, in doing so, push the boy away from him, he spotted the opening.
It was a mere flesh wound, a nick across the boy’s cheek in the hope that it would enlighten him as to the limits of this particular brand of magic. But perhaps that in itself had been too great a risk to take given the potential consequences. Perhaps it was too reckless. Too callous. Particularly when the halt in Salazar’s counter-strike, and the words he levelled back at him made the blood turn to ice in his veins.
“ You cut me, you cut the boy, Jack. ”
Jack faltered, and Salazar advanced. With every frantic block and step backwards, all he could focus on was the way his freshly-inflicted cut blended in with the mottled, cracked flesh on the side of Henry’s face. On the side of Salazar’s face. Despite the confirmation that was lodging itself somewhere in the levelheaded part of his mind that the two of them were now one, now connected, the conclusion he subsequently reached of this making the Spanish captain human was meaningless. Not when he could see that fresh mark on that face, and could feel the revulsion rising in him that he was the one to put it there.
Jack didn’t care how fallible this made him. Not when the fallibility was Henry’s. So, that left him no choice but to try a different approach, and summon up the guile from somewhere to make it convincing.
“ Shame that he won’t let you kill me. ” Said with much more confidence than he felt as he planted his feet and met Salazar’s blade with another loud clang. Leaning towards the gap between their crossed blades, Jack lowered his voice. “ He’s still in there, Capitán, Kicking and screaming and attempting to thwart all that you’ve fantasised about for years. ” At least, he hoped that Henry was in there still. If he was, then he most certainly was fighting, and perhaps that meant that this assumption wasn’t entirely --- well, an assumption. “ Reckon that makes it two against one, and I don’t fancy your odds on this one, mate. ”
It seemed to anger him. Salazar --- or rather, Henry ---- pushed Jack away with his blade and, with a cry of frustration, renewed his offensive. The back of Jack’s boot came into contact with a coral rock, and as he carefully stepped around it, he only just managed to parry the force of his opponent’s next blow. “ Did he make me do this, Jack Sparrow? ” He swung again, with even more power this time --- and for the first time Jack caught sight of the man’s crew at the ocean’s edge, waiting on both sides of where it had parted to reveal Poseidon’s tomb. “ Or this? ”
The distraction was the first time Jack had let his guard down. It took a moment for the injury to register: a slash from just below the nape of Jack’s neck to his collarbone, but when he spotted the blood soaking through his shirt and waistcoat the potential severity of it became clear. How many times had he aimed for the same area, hoping to sever the vein that would swiftly put an end to a fight? Of all the people to think of in that moment, Jack saw Robby Greene’s face in his mind’s eye, and the warning he’d given him after his first duel to the death.
If that had gone an inch or two deeper, you’d have been lying there dead, right beside Christophe.
Was this how he would come full circle? Certainly, in this case, he very much hoped that it hadn’t gone any deeper ---- and for now, the adrenaline was stopping the wound from doing little more than stinging at the spray from the rushing ocean beside them. The more concerning matter at present was his own laboured breathing, in comparison to Henry who was barely breaking a sweat. He was half-tempted to glance over his shoulder and verbalise his frustration at being the only one here to pull his weight. Has Carina not worked the bloody thing out yet?
Whatever was going on behind him, Jack was running out of options for the problem in front.
“ Then why make it a fight at all? ” He noticed that Salazar’s ( or was that Henry’s? ) gaze was, for the moment, preoccupied with the growing bloodstain on his shirt, giving Jack enough space to briefly catch his breath. To glance around him. To look down at the lightly bloodied sword in his hand and debate his next choice. One that he should have made hours ago, when the Pearl had first encountered the Silent Mary and Salazar’s crew. One that, until now, he’d been too cowardly to make. “ All you’d have to do is let Henry go and I might just stop resisting altogether. ”
“ No, no no no, Jack, don’t you see? ” There was a peculiar softness in the way the words were spoken, an intimate whisper between the two of them that was the most he’d sounded like Henry since this had started. Salazar didn’t raise his sword to strike again. Instead, he crossed the scant distance between them, and pressed his ( Henry’s ) hand into his blood stained waistcoat. Jack hissed, and fought against the black dots dancing around in his vision, but otherwise didn’t say a word. “ Don’t you see? ”
Jack might have been forgiven for thinking that there was something kind in Salazar’s expression, then, but it didn’t last. The look on Henry’s face quickly morphed back into rage, and a hand tightened with surely supernatural strength around Jack’s throat.
As things went, it wasn’t the first time that someone had tried to strangle him, but having had experience of such things never made it easier to resist the urge to struggle. Ringed fingers rose in a desperate attempt to claw the hands ( Henry’s hands ) off of his neck and release his airway, but it ended up not being his efforts at all that spared him. Instead, it was the loud, rushing noise of the Trident being released from its perch; loud enough, and promising enough, it seemed, for Salazar to momentary abandon any desire he may have had to finish Jack off.
Besides, it wasn’t as if Jack was in much condition to resist being finished off even if he’d wanted to. As the air rushed back into his lungs, so too did the sea floor rush up to greet him. And only when he’d finally pulled himself up into a sitting position, using one of the rocks on the seabed as an aid, could he finally turn his gaze on the commotion at hand: Captain Salazar picking up the Trident, and Henry seeming to slide out of his control and physically collapse at his feet.
Carina was nowhere to be seen, but he knew where, or indeed whom, the focus of the Trident’s ire was about to be directed towards. He also knew that, physically speaking, he was just about spent.
He could have rushed to Henry’s aid, but he didn’t fancy his chances of being intercepted before he got there. Or whether he’d even like what he found.
All he could do, really, was wait. And it took but mere seconds before Salazar’s eye was once again trained on him ---- though this time, more importantly, looking much more reassuringly like his unnervingly ghostly self.
Jack steeled himself. You’d better have a bloody plan, Carina. He drew a deep breath, carefully pulled himself to his feet, and had just enough time to slip the girl’s diary under his waistcoat. Just below the bleeding wound. Just above his breastbone.
           One final gambit.
