What's your favorite underrated Powerpuff Girls one off villain?
I mean… there are so many that I love, but I really do treasure him:
Tumblr media
He’s such a fun and gross villain, but I genuinely can’t even say that I’ve seen much fanart or fanfic that stars him in any way. I get that the reason why that probably is is because he kind of sort of “died” but, like, you would think that, since the roach that piloted the nasty crusty robot is still alive… couldn’t there be another story where he comes back but in a different robot? I’m assuming he’s the one who made the first one. He could build a totally different robot form and use it to trick the girls or something. Also, why did he make his robot form look so disgusting? I know that in the show we don’t find out he’s in a robot shell until the end, and the character design is kind of part of that joke, but still! Anyway, whatever, he’s underrated and I love him.

Finally, we get the opportunity to put our Spy Cards worldbuilding in a work. Though there are many questions about such things as "regulation" "how these cards are printed" "who approves a single spy card", and so on, we are here to present a bold new take: this game is based like 60% on obscure roach memory-reading tech that got turned into a card game with absolutely No card-game-related intentions included in the original tech and most of the card vetting is just from the fact that there aren't too many card printers out there and most of them make cards that need to be translated from Roach.
Strictly speaking, as a card game, it is not a terribly good or well-balanced one. It's popular primarily because of a mix of the difficulty involved in getting the data for high-level cards, the fun of seeing the variety of monsters that can be brought to the table, and the incredible amounts of ham and drama that goes into specifically the professional scene.
#we speak#bug fables#bold and new because we think that only maybe three people have even asked questions about the semantics ofc#notable points: professional spy cards is an entirely different thing from competitive spy cards#and the overlap between fanbases means that there is occasionally some REALLY incomprehensible beef about deck composition#also every time that carmina uses astotheles' card in one of her decks she has to pay him royalties#this is because he approached her personally about it. it was an Experience.#the roach tech thing also means that like a decent chunk of high level spy cards players know like. a handful of words in roach#competitive spy cards is generally smaller than professional and involves shit like actual deck composition and like#trying to get ahold of That One OP Card so that you can utterly crush people at the local tournament. actual card geek shit.#professional spy cards is basically wrestling in card game form and does NOT optimize the decks very well#because 99% of the draw of PROFESSIONAL spy cards is that youre gonna watch a whole bunch of people roleplay elaborate storylines#while also playing a game where most professional venues will invest in tech to read card crystals and summon appropriate effects#its a spectacle sport. specifically a spectacle sport where the actual game is mostly framework for Cool Monsters and Interpersonal Drama#carmina is a heel#this might be slightly incoherent but we'll clean it up later maybe. we are taking a break from sketching comms to write rn

I know I haven't really posted in the last two days, but they've been wild days, and I'm so, so tired. But hey, I got some writing done, and writing makes everything better. We all hope.
Here's what I worked on today specifically. It's a part of my most recent Fanfiction, Monsters. I don't know if I'm even going to go add this scene, I think it's funny and just too cute, but I don't really think it aligns well with the plot. Let me know what you guys think of it.
***
When Roach entered the hotel room, he’d expected to see an untouched room ready for him. This time, when he opened the room, there was a woman’s suitcase open on the bed, her coat thrown across a plush-looking velvet and cherry wood seat. The bathroom light was on, steam was rolling from under the door, and the smell of something flowery filled the room. For a second, Roach thought he’d mistakenly entered the wrong room, that he’d invaded some poor guests' privacy, and that he was about to be in a world of trouble. He’d almost turned right back out the door and back downstairs to the front desk, but the key had worked. So, unless he was given the wrong key, this was the right room.
Tentatively, Roach knocked on the bathroom door with a shaky “Hello?” There was a moment of silence, then the sloshing of water and a suspicious Who is it? Roach gulped; he hadn’t really thought this far ahead. Should he tell this woman he was a soldier and possibly ruin a whole operation? Or should he just claim housekeeping and coax her out of the bathroom? Either way, Roach was stuck between a rock and a hard place- so he chose the middle ground and answered, “My name is Gary Sanderson. I’m here for the room.” There was more silence and more water sloshing before a gentle Oh! Alright, I’ll be done in a minute!
Roach stood by the bathroom door, and then stood some more until he started the fidget, drumming on his thighs and playing with the strap of his duffel- he stood until the thought of standing any longer was too much to bear, and the woman was still locked in the bathroom. Roach’s patience hit its limit as he tossed his duffle full of equipment onto the bed next to this woman’s suitcase. The hotel room was big, and classier than anything Roach had ever stayed in. Roach hated to admit it but was in slight awe of the hotel and its room.
This was meant to be a quick job that was only meant to take an hour. So, instead of waiting for the mystery woman to wander out of the bathroom, he began setting up receivers and mics around the room, crawling up a ladder to tuck cams into the room’s crown molding and threading cable through the heavy drapes. It was when Roach was at the very top of the ladder and trying to get a cam to come online that she finally emerged from the steamy bathroom. Honestly, Roach had forgotten she was even there, too engrossed in his own work.
When a lovely, feminine voice said, “Hello,” he jumped, nearly slid right back down the ladder; clutching his rapidly beating heart, knees shaking as he fought for balance on top of that ladder. He looked down at her, ready to chastise and cuss at her for nearly killing him, yet stopped when he looked at her. She looked like a diamond, like a star in the night sky. She had large blue eyes and a soft face, her curves tucked into a glimmering tight dress, and her golden hair curled down her back; a necklace teased her collarbone and dragged Roach’s eyes down to the exposed top of her breasts. She was a breathtaking creature, soft-looking and innocent, yet there was a devious spark in those pretty blue eyes of hers. This was emulated further as she laughed; she had the laugh of a little girl causing trouble, and oh, trouble she was. “I’m so sorry,” she giggled and tucked a fallen curl behind her ear.
Roach flushed red; this was the spy, he realized, the one who was operating this mission. Briefly, he wondered how such a pretty thing ended up in the military, or was she CIA? It didn’t really matter because he was speaking, a shaky “It’s okay. I’m okay,” tumbling out of his mouth as he climbed down the ladder. He had to get a better look at her, to see her up close. She had stifled her laughter by the time his boots hit the floor, and though Roach opened his mouth to speak, no words came out of him. She tilted her head, looking at him like a curious kitten. She was shorter up close, a whole head shorter than Roach; it was almost comical how tiny she was, how childlike she looked- they had sent this woman to draw out the secrets of a Senator? She was a beauty, Roach could admit, but even he could see this was a trap. “You said your name was Larry Anderson earlier?” she purred, from the glimmer in her eyes and the smirk on her lips, Roach could see it was merely a tease, but it still left his brain stumbling.
“Gary Sanderson, ma’am,” he stuttered, “My friends call me Roach,” and with that, Roach nearly kicked himself. His cheeks warmed at his military callsign; though its origins weren’t embarrassing, the name itself certainly was at this moment.
“Roach, huh?” she was smiling, her arms crossing over her chest, and she took a step towards the bed, her movement graceful. Her crystalline eyes were examining the equipment, the cables, and cameras, and microphones all strewn about over the comforter. “I’d love to know the story behind that name,” she looked back over her shoulder at him, a small smile tugging at her full mouth as her eyes fluttered.
“Maybe one day,” Roach gulped, fully aware that admitting to missile theft wasn’t the smoothest move when it came to charming women. “You haven’t told me your name yet!” Roach added quickly, changing the subject.
“That’s a secret,” she smirked, winking at Roach whose stomach flipped. She looked over her shoulder, back into Roach's eyes, and he had to admit it to himself; Roach was swooning. His heart was beating erratically, and his palms were sweating.
“Right,” he gulped, realizing that even if this pretty woman wanted to, she couldn’t tell Roach her name. Actually, if Roach thought about it, she shouldn’t even be speaking to him. It was definitely against some kind of protocol for her to be in the same room with her, much less conversing. Then the door to the hotel room burst open, and Roach jumped back from the spy like a teenager caught kissing behind the bleachers. A stout woman with dark hair and a sour face stood in the doorway, her arms crossed accusingly across her chest and a sharp brow raised. She was hissing at the spy, chastising her for speaking with him. It made Roach feel somewhat dirty, like he contaminated this pretty woman just by touching her. Though the spy’s face scrunched up as if she disagreed with this woman’s words, she didn’t come to Roach’s defense. She let the woman stomp forward, let her pick and tuck at her clothes as if the spy were a child who couldn’t dress herself. Roach didn’t really see the point; this woman was already beautiful, so why bother with all of that primping? Still, the spy didn’t stop this new woman, or maybe she couldn’t? Roach didn’t know; instead, he began gathering up his equipment, tucking it all back into his duffel before this strange woman decided to unleash her annoying furry on him. It was when the woman grabbed the spy by her upper arm that Roach paused to watch her drag the spy out of the room- the woman was still chastising, but when her back turned, the spy looked over her shoulder at Roach. Her eyes were smiling, and his heart skipped a beat in his chest as she winked at him, and the hotel door shut with a slam. Leaving Roach gasping for air and butterflies dancing in his stomach.
