New Releases: August 6, 2024
Middle Grade Crushing It by Erin Becker On the soccer field, Magic Mel is in her element. She’s ready to lead her team to victory at the city championship in her new role as captain. Off the field, however, is a totally different story. Mel can’t get a handle on her class presentation, her friend group has completely dissolved, and her ex-friend-current-teammate, Tory, is being the worst. The…

Hi 😊 i'm really excited about the rwrb sequel and i can't stop thinking about it. Do you think Casey and Matthew would give Alex a political career ?and if it happens could it be a problem for Henry(considering what he told Alex during the Kensington fight scene)?
Hi! Sorry this one took me so long.
Truth be told @mulderscully wrote an excellent post on the topic, I think they covered it better than I could, so I suggest you take a look at the post
But my answer: I don't think so. In the book, Casey made a deliberate decision to write Alex being so sure that politics is his future to him feeling like policy-making isn't what he wanted to do to deciding on taking the LSAT. It was a deliberate choice to showcase the inherent flaws of politics. Alex wants to help communities, help people in need, he said as much during their Paris pillow talk. Law is probably the path that's more flexible and direct, the path that suits him better.
Also in the movie, he's in Georgetown Law. He's in law school already, so we don't know if this epiphany that he prefers law has already happened or not. I'm not familiar enough with politics, American politics to know what would the path to being a politician would involve, so I also don't know if there are other reasons he's a law student already in the movie.
Plus yeah, if he goes into politics, it's gonna bring mostly trouble to Henry. This depends on whether or not he'll abdicate (unpopular opinion but I said this before, I personally don't want movie Henry to abdicate) but the royal family isn't allowed to be directly associated with a particular political leaning. Henry gets a pass at being on stage during Ellen's re-election acceptance speech because he's her son-in-law, he's there as an extended family member, but his boyfriend being a politician is far more direct of a relation. Additionally, as Henry mentioned during the Kensington scene: politics is a cage too, and it's a new one, one that he doesn't know about. At least with the crown he was trained to deal with some aspects of it. Politics is something else.
That's my two cents, but ultimately it's up to Matthew and Casey. We'll just have to wait and see.

I can’t believe Casey McQuistion killed the Queen of England so the King in the RWRB movie will continue to be canon adjacent

An Incomplete List: Things I love about RWRB by Casey McQuistion (and what it has taught me)
The tooth-rotting fluff.
The angst.
The happy ending.
The message(s).
The history, in general ("History, huh?").
Greek mythology references.
All the hidden queer stories, specifically.
The plethora of vocab words - extremely helpful to me as a writer.
So. Much. Joy.
Henry's passion for literature. I relate.
Alex's perfectionism. I relate.
The characters as a whole.
Queen.
David Bowie.
The V&A.
Tumblr. Tumblr, tumblr, tumblr.
Bake Off. It's so relaxing...
All the things I understand now thanks to Casey and Matthew and Nick and Taylor (and everyone else).
Love.
The fact that the fandom brought me to Tumblr. (I know I already said this, but I really, really love Tumblr.)

A Comprehensive List of all of the (Queer) books I've read since September 6th (as of September 28th):
Spell Bound by F.T. Lukens
Magic, chaos, a nonbinary protagonist, and a cursed rug that's a bit of a dick. (also I may or may not have bought this one in the first place because the two main characters reminded me of James and Regulus. Even after finishing it, I stand by that assessment lmao)
In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens
Pirates and Princes and Magic Oh My! Oh and magic. Did I mention magic? Because there's also magic.
So This is Ever After by F.T. Lukens
"And they were Soulmates!" (Oh my god they were soulmates...) but with the obligatory "I love him but he doesn't love me the same way" trope.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey Mcquistion (I read it twice this month)
I don't think this one needs a description at this point. If you've seen the movie, I recommend the book. Both are fucking amazing, but there are just so many things that the movie couldn't do with the time frame it had to fit into. <3
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
Fake dating so hard it becomes real. You know how it goes. ^.^
Simon vs. The Homo sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (I've read this one so many times ngl)
Not sure this needs a description, but this too, is better than the movie. Which I also love so so very much ^.^ <3
Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee
Okay, this one made me emotional. I love it so much!
The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune (book 1)
Flash Fire by TJ Klune (book 2)
Heat Wave by TJ Klune (book 3)
SUPERHEROES. FANFICTION. LESBIANS. (the lesbians are side characters but they're always a presence and I love them) AND SO MUCH ADHD THAT IT'S A SUPERPOWER ALL ON ITS OWN. I just finished this series like five minutes ago and I'm so obsessed!!! ToT I love them all so much!!!
(totally has nothing at all to do with the fact that the Dnd campaign I'm a part of is about our modern world but with mutants and magic and heroes and all that jazz~)
I loved every single one of these books so much and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for some really cute lgbtq romances!

(More) Bad Metaphors About Maps | NoCoastPosts
An international scandal exposed the most precious parts of their relationship to the world. Henry knew this weighed heavily on Alex, who felt his words were tainted and cheapened. He decides it's time to make the jump and take back what belongs to them.
Or:
Henry writes another Waterloo Letter in response to Alex's "Bad Metaphors About Maps".
(read it on ao3)
Last night, I was reading the Waterloo Letters and noticed the last one sent is just a quote from Jean Cocteau.
Casey McQuistion said "This email is supposed to feel heavy–Henry doesn’t have any of his own words for this.". (source)
The email leaks happened hours later. I wondered if Henry would have eventually said more - he always chooses his words so carefully.
I blinked and several hours later, this love letter was complete.

Alright, some more recommendations for the end of #TransRightsReadathon! Here are some standalones by trans authors I've enjoyed. These books mostly fall under the sff umbrella except for Confessions of the Fox which is meta-historical fiction.
They are beautiful, heartfelt, creative explorations of humanity, of our drive for connection, self-understanding, love, and survival. So many of these books look at history, personal, and community, aaaand they are filled with complicated, lovable, engaging characters. All of these books gave me something from a soft place to rest to a new way of viewing the world we live in.
Many of these have trans characters as well, but not all of them. Most of these authors have other books that are also wonderful. Annnd as always there are so many other fabulous books by and about people who are trans.
One Last Stop by Casey McQuistion
An Unkindess of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon
Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi
Confessions of the Fox by Jordy Rosenberg
All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders
Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey
Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo
Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
ID: a stack of 8 books on a teal background
