The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a brotherhood of Army, Navy, and Marine veterans who fought for the Union in the Civil War, pay tribute on May 30, 1929. At that time the holiday was known as Decoration Day. They are gathered at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument on Riverside Drive and 89th Street.

Illustrated “Poster Views of New York” from 1924 by artist A. Broun. Most postcards were raw photos or photos traced over and colored by illustrators, making these unique in the postcard landscape. The first of times square is particularly striking with the balls of light clustered above the avenues and real signs drawn from memory, introducing a spelling error in “Ziegfeld.”

Augustus Post has the distinction of being the first person in New York City to receive a traffic citation involving an automobile. When he was driving his 1900 White Steamer on Riverside Drive in the uncharted wilderness of the Upper West Side of Manhattan, he was chased and pulled over by a policeman on a bicycle and promptly ticketed for speeding. He was traveling at a rate of ten miles per hour.

The Britannia Inn has been owned by various chains since I have lived in Liverpool. It's position on Riverside Drive next to Otterspool Prom and overlooking the River Mersey makes it popular in the summer months. Especially when the sun is shining.
