A month of Shakespeare News! 2/4:

When forgery makes you literally pull out your own hair, something has gone terribly wrong. Plus David Tennant thinks that he is “a very obvious Andrew Aguecheek," Sherlockians get pedantic about "Twelfth Night," and a neck implant that shocks you if you quote "Hamlet" too much (fictional).

Absolutely no idea why, but lately I've been on a bender of watching David Tennant shows. I'd already seen Doctor Who, Broadchurch, and Staged, but here are some other things I found easily available recently, in case anyone else is on this journey:

YouTube (the normal free version): Takin' Over the Asylum: 23yo David Tennant with floppy 90s hair! From the few clips I'd seen I was expecting something like Saved By the Bell Goes to Rehab, but it's surprisingly good. Blackpool: Bonus David Morrissey! This is a slightly bizarre concept for a TV series, but I actually dug it. It's pretty much your usual musical where people just stop what they're doing every so often to sing and dance, but instead of musical-type numbers they're all singing along to existing recorded pop music, Carpool Karaoke style. David Tennant plays a cop who is a far cry from his Broadchurch character. Hamlet (incomplete): Bonus Patrick Stewart! The video I found had maybe 20 minutes missing from the end, but maybe the rest is out there somewhere. This theater show uses Shakespeare's original words, but the costumes and props are updated. It's really compelling. Much Ado About Nothing: Bonus Catherine Tate! Basically the same Shakespeare treatment as Hamlet. David and Catherine are so good in this, separately and together, and there are a lot of hilarious bits.

Tubi (free): The Decoy Bride: Out of all of these, I found this one the weirdest, just because what is David Tennant doing in a mediocre contrived romantic comedy? But it's cute and not terrible.

Amazon Prime (not free of course, but you might already have it for Good Omens): Bright Young Things: You'd probably watch this more for Michael Sheen (who is fantastic), but it's fun that they're both in it! Casanova (FreeVee, with ads): Bonus Nina Sosanya! The only romantic pairing I've seen of her and David. This is apparently a PBS Masterpiece Theater production, so I was expecting something a little stodgier, but this was often silly--in a good way! This show was right before, and led directly to, David's run in Doctor Who, and you can see a lot of the Tenth Doctor-to-be. Single Father: Bonus Suranne Jones! Not my favorite. Sad things happen, people make bad decisions. Still worth watching imo.

Mike was born and raised in a small town in Nottaway, Virginia. Athletic, intelligent and popular, Mike seemed to have it all. But underneath, he was under painful stress from his abusive father and forced to pursue his parents’ dreams for him. They wanted him to do pro-golf when he aspired to follow his grandfather’s footsteps into law enforcement. 

He eventually graduated from Quantico as the best in his class with a fast-track to becoming FBI Director. But something changed and he was instead sent to California to become an undercover agent.  

With talents like expert marksmanship and deception, he made the perfect fit for Graceland. But after winning his first case there, he discovered that Graceland wasn’t his home. It was his next case.

Marc 'Mizzy' Levi

Growing up, Marc was a happy kid. He wanted for nothing with loving parents and a big brother who would always send him gifts back from New York. But that didn’t last. After his parents had a messy divorce, Marc was in limbo. His mom moved to Los Angeles to be closer to work and he only saw her twice a year. And his father indulged in his newfound freedom. He took Marc to these parties way too young and introduced him to every short-term girlfriend he had. 

Marc struggled to feel at home anywhere and grew up thinking he was an adult when he was still just a kid. And when his parents remarried, things just got worse. His mom’s husband was a vicious bastard and his dad’s wife treated him his age. 

Marc eventually pursued friendships with older kids who drank and did drugs. 

Things devolved quicker after a deadly car crash killed two of his best friends and left him with a wired jaw. 

After that, drugs and dangerously codependent relationships became all he lived and breathed for. 

In his early twenties, Marc lives between rehabs, colleges, his car and the streets. He has idle dreams of becoming a rockstar but never does anything to pursue it. 

He gets and stays sober at twenty-nine with only one or two minor incidents. And he eventually becomes a writer.

Born and raised on a farm in Terr, Aedan knew he didn't belong. Why were his parents human when he was half-elf? But he loved his family, especially his uncle. But after an incident in the forest when he was twelve, he was forced to leave that life behind.

He travelled with his grandparents in search of an answer to his magic. But it was cut short when he was fifteen. Bandits had razed a hamlet and captured the non-human residents to sell on. When Aedan and his grandparents stumbled on the attack, they were targeted too. Aedan was the only one of the three to survive. But his magic made him hard to sell on. Eventually, he found himself in a relationship with the gang's enforcer, Dunnebar. From there, he became a full member of the Tzivah's bandits.

In his twenties, Aedan cares for the gang's animals, hunts for food and lures more victims for the gang.

Backpacking between eighteen and twenty-one, Eli made lifelong connections around the world. He even fell in love with Muay Thai and learned his calling. He wanted to help women learn to defend themselves so that they could feel safe enough to travel.

But when he returned to America with dreams of starting a gym, he found his parents had divorced and money was tight. The investment his dad promised was never coming.

Eli accepted a job at a gym in New York from a friend. It came with an apartment with discounted rent and the opportunity to host evening self-defense classes.

Since then, he has thrived in New York. He practices Muay Thai, competes and even does a little sports modelling on the side.

But life always has a way of catching up. He doesn't even bother reporting break-ins anymore because he knows the culprit is his baby brother. And every few years, he rinses out his savings to help Mizzy.

tristan healing his deeply fragmented connection with the force because it’s either that or die, essentially. shedding both the inquisitor and jedi titles and starting from scratch. living deep in the forest of a remote planet strong with the force which cass specifically picked for them before the end of the war, far enough from the settlement to remain unbothered but close enough to fetch supplies when needed. initially intimidated by trying to rebuild the connection because of how close it came to killing him when he nearly fell to the dark side but gradually taking longer and longer walks into the nature surrounding them every day. it starts as rehab because he struggles to walk properly for a while after his release from medbay at the rebel base and he needs to try daily to recover. as he becomes more mobile again, it turns into exploring. swimming in the nearby lake in the morning. venturing out into the bioluminescent forest at night and returning with the bioluminescence clinging to his skin a bit, making him softly glow. ( something something bioluminescence doesn’t work that way but force shit, and it eventually becomes semi-permanent at night while he's on-planet and only fades when he sleeps. ) finding himself yearning for that reconnection eventually instead of dreading or feeling uncertain because he feels so grounded in the nature around him and wants to make himself a part of it through the force. him realizing pretty early on that there are parts of the darkness he was steeped in for two decades that he will never be able to fully get rid of and that terrifying him for quite a while before eventually realizing he can balance it with everything else and thus embrace it as part of his new self. him tapping into such exceptional power on this planet and using it to essentially fuse with the nature there such that he starts to feel drained if he leaves it for more than a week or two — but that’s okay, because he and cass are old and tired and never planned to leave again. actors in the new republic coming to them with questions and the occasional hope that they might choose to come help rebuild, which is rebuked more gently by tristan and less gently by cass. old friends from the wars paying them visits in their little hamlet, including tristan's old clone commanders specs and kilo, with whom he's made peace after the trauma of o66. the community on the planet embracing that they're there ( even if they mostly leave them alone ) because tristan's force fusion with the planet's flora and fauna has vastly improved farming, logging, and animal husbandry. force devotees hearing about the planet's ecosystem basically flourishing under tristan's care and making pilgrimages there on occasion, which tris mostly avoids because he's not here to be revered as some sort of a deity, which is what most pilgrims want to do, but making exceptions to speak to some force learners on occasion. finding peace after a lifetime of war and torture and anguish and grief through embracing his force abilities like never before and finally being with ( and marrying ) the person he’s loved for 30-35 years of his life, who is himself seeing the force through new eyes. finally feeling fully safe for the first time in his life, barefoot in the grass of a planet — unselfishly chosen by that love of his life — that has essentially welcomed him home, mind, body, and soul.

he leaves rehab then throws a cringefest birthday party with a compliment tunnel because of positivity and good vibes guys. his parents don’t show up, geto’s not speaking to him, but yuuji’s here. only, he’s stuck playing old nintendo games in the makeshift arcade, the same ones gojo had to play in secret. he doesn’t know what scares him most, that yuuji tells him he wants this life or that he wants to be just like him. he’s flying above a sea of literal strangers and he calls it the coming of the second messiah. something about “i used to be an atheist until i realized i am god.” he tells the party planner who’s already stressed out with the lights and the mingling people who want gojo’s personal phone number. here, he throws back shot after shot and sweats it out on the dancefloor, they’re playing songs that remind him of the youth he’s lost. moving across this sea of vipers who just want a piece of him, tearing him apart, consuming his flesh. they smile and laugh but he doesn’t know if it’s alongside him or at him.

and then there’s geto. just geto with his kind heart and his sense of humour, the way he used to be everything gojo had. post-switzerland, geto isn’t anywhere to be found and he’s pretty sure it’s his fault. and the thing is gojo doesn’t ever have problems with these things. could easily call someone and get geto’s location in an instant but he doesn’t think geto would even want to be found. because the guy has his own shit too, demons lurking at the back of his mind filled with grief, and this need to be everyone’s first line of defense. “his sobriety is dependant on you,” mahito chuckles in geto’s face, “what does that make you, his friend? you think he cares about you, he’ll drop you the moment he gets back on his feet and you know it.”

BIOGRAPHY :

caleb was born in new york city  ( the upper east side )  to two doctors, his lovely but hollow mother and his cold and distant father. when he was a baby his father had an affair with another married woman resulting in the birth of his half sister, lydia montgomery, but they never grew up so much as knowing the other’s name.

he played lacrosse at his private preppy annoying rich kids high school, and surprisingly was really good at it, but he quit after a series of unfortunate events that would ultimately lead to his first stint in rehab.

he’s a dealer. he’s been a dealer since he was a freshman in high school, when he realized he could use the money to stop relying on his parent’s income and his inheritance that he was positive he would sooner be murdered for than ever receive.

at first he didn’t even do the drugs that he sold, he just pocketed the money and had a little hustle, but he inevitably started smoking the weed, and when he widened his range of inventory  ( he called it diversifying his assets )  he took a lot of everything else as well. it meant he didn’t have to sit in his numbness anymore so alright baby!

heavy partier, heavy drinker, heavy user. his grades and his performance on the field dropped drastically. he slept around a lot  ( tried to. he’s very much Gay but that realization didn’t come for a long time )  and pretty much turned into a giant dickwad.

DRUNK DRIVING TW. REHAB TW. he crashed his dad’s lamborghini one night driving blackout and when he woke up in his hospital he found his parents had packed his bags and enrolled him in rehab.

he doesn’t talk about it.

boarding school came next, and old habits die hard, but he managed to graduate. he went to college and got a degree in chemistry because he’s surprisingly smart but he’s never learned how to work an honest job and he doesn’t plan on it.

he put himself in rehab sometime between his freshman and sophomore year. he talks about it sometimes. not ashamed of it and it actually helped him quite a bit. still has a problem but has matured a lot.

chose to travel around aimlessly after graduation because he could sell drugs anywhere and his mom tagged along with him eventually. she wouldn’t admit it but she was desperate to get out of their apartment in new york. neither of his parents will settle on the terms of a divorce so. they’re still together or whatever but mrs. montgomery is a free woman. milf. shove it up ur ass christian montgomery.

wound up in irving after a bender and he liked it so he’s been crashing on couches ever since. he doesn’t really know how long it’s been so i do not know either <3 

MISCELLANEOUS :

he’s still a dealer. marijuana, pills, powder, miscellaneous concoctions, he’ll sell you anything. not really concerned about it because him and his mom are working on deliberately draining his father’s bank account.

lives to torment others, can’t take anything seriously, and genuinely a puppy of a person. quite frankly extremely annoying in the wrong crowd.

tall and lanky and scrappy he has a lot of anger the kind of person who probably bit a lot of people as a child. unapologetically chaotic.

he’s intelligent but he’s also super unmotivated. he straight up did not attend class and scraped by literally by the grace of some god. he doesn’t use his brain much at all.

lazy. hates labor. crude sense of humor.

a really fucking good time <3 he will invite himself to parties he does not need to be asked he somehow just knows. he calls it a sixth sense for sniffing out heathenism.

likes almost everyone but also dramatic. sleeps around. lives for causing chaos and being the center of attention and unapologetic about it.
