In 1902, the time traveling alien known as the Doctor (Doctor 11) visited his big game hunter friend John Riddell in Africa (who had last seen the Doctor seven months previous) and invited Ridedell to come help stop a spaceship filled with dinosaurs from crashing into the Earth in the year 2367. CRAZYHEAD (2016): Derivative but mostly delightful lightweight British horror-comedy series, created by Howard Overman (of MISFITS and DIRK GENTLY), about two 20something girls, Amy (Cara Theobold) and Raquel (Susan Wokoma), who become unlikely friends and partners due to their shared ability to see demons possessing human bodies — which are becoming more frequent as the demons prepare an elaborate plan to bring about Hell on Earth.

The show's influences are easy to spot, to say the least, and the plot wanders more than it seems like it should with only six 43-minute episodes, but Amy and Raquel are endearing protagonists, and there's a nice degree of actual emotion bolstering the show's snarky sense of humor. It loses steam somewhat as it approaches the finale, becoming a little too blatant about its obvious debt to BUFFY and ANGEL, but it's a good time overall. One minor sour point is a high level of scatological humor, which I started to find obnoxiously juvenile after a while. CONTAINS LESBIANS? There's an awful lot of self-conscious no-homo about the main female characters, but the direction of the story makes it somewhat unclear if this was intended as gay-baiting or foreshadowing. Since the series ran only one season, I guess we'll never know. VERDICT: Flawed but fun. It's too bad it wasn't continued past the first series.
