Flight Patterns Part 2
Tumblr media
Summary - After years of hushed whispers and leads, Azriel has finally found Cassian's lost sister, Aerilyn. What he found with her was unexpected, though.
Warnings - Slight power abuse, mentions of trauma and scars. Scene jumping to ensure I got two of the dragons introduced.
A/N- We are getting a fairly calm Aerilyn in this part since they are doing everything they can to make her feel comfortable and safe, but Caged animals tend to be the most dangerous. This is also going to give us a peek at her and Rhysand and the incoming slow burn between them. The next few parts will flow smoother, but still have some jumps to ensure I get the dragons introduced quickly. Only next time might be Rhys seeing one up close. 🫠
Edited to add - my brain is not getting me the euphoria I like to have when I post, please do not be surprised if I edit this before posting part 3.. maybe I looked at it too long, maybe I'm being critical of myself, but we be here 🙃
Word Count - 4970
Part 1 Part 3
Tumblr media
Aerilyn did not know what to think of the small being in front of her. Her first instinct was to laugh, but she held it in picking up on her less than amused body language as the male she knew from somewhere spoke to her. They'd been communicating back and forth in her first tongue for over an hour, but it was clearly something the other female struggled with. A dead language she had called it.
Now she was testing Aerilyn's ability to speak common. "Rhys said you knew letters but cannot speak to me in this language," her voice drawled out.
Inaccurate, Aerilyn thought to herself. But we can play this game for a little while. She cocked a brow, blinking in faked confusion.
The female rolled her eyes. "I told them you'd be a lost cause. Feral beasts are best left to other beasts." She blinked again, knitting her brows together. She stored the insult in her mind for later, ignoring the heat pooling in her blood to bite back.
She did know this. She had tricked the male in her head well if he thought she had less education than a child. "I assume you don't know your name then?"
"Ari," she whispered. "Name Ari."
The female nodded. "So you can understand me but not speak the language I'm speaking?" She blinked blindly again, grinning internally when silver eyes rolled in annoyance. "I will inform the High Lord." The small fae left with her arms crossed and Aerilyn sighed. She walked out the balcony, staring at the city far below her and admiring the pretty sparkling lights.
She'd only ever seen a village from dragon back as they moved from place to place in search of food and safety.
Her childhood with them and their riders had been happy. Filled with laughter and adventure. Until they made the mistake of traveling across the continent.
Rumors had reached their ears of a city that would welcome riders and their drakes. Aerilyn and her mount had been left behind to guard the mountain they currently held shelter in, and one by one 6 other winged beasts returned to her. Riderless and in mourning. She was still young at that point, barely into her adulthood, and was now tasked with learning to control 6 other mounts on top of her own.
She whistled softly 4 times, she knew they were near. And the wind shifted rotation before lightning stuck high in the clouds, revealing a large body and ever faithful wings gliding.
-
"I'd just throw her back in the woods," Mor stated. "She had 4 drakes, and we have no clue what they can do. Do you really think having her here is safe?"
Cassian growled, his fist closing tightly under the table. "She's my sister."
Azriel avoided his gaze, jaw slightly clenched as he stated the one fact they all knew. "She's dangerous and a liability. We can't even speak to her to tell her we mean her and them no harm."
Amren rolled her eyes. "I think she's lying about that. I think she can speak common. I think she chooses not to. Just as all riders have throughout the history of time."
Amren shifted as all eyes landed on her. "She knew I was asking her name. Her accent is thick and heavy, but she pronounced everything clearly instead of struggling through it like a truly uneducated and mute fae would."
Cassian shook his head at Amren in disbelief. "She lived in the woods, Am. There's no way-"
"She speaks a completely dead language last used by dragon riders," Amren cut him off, annoyance slipping into her tone as she stared at the general as if he had gone stupid overnight. "She is somehow alive after her wings were cut so deeply that parts of her skin were still attached. Or did you forget the condition you received them at your feet in?" Amren turned her head to the window as a flash of lightning appeared from nowhere. "She may have been alone when you found her, but she wasn't always alone."
Rhysand jumped as a loud crash of thunder shook the mountain. "It wasn't supposed to rain today," Azriel said slowly as he moved towards the window. "We need to warn people to get inside. Look at how dark the clouds are."
Amren's eyes went to the clouds, a small smirk on her face. "We're about to see one of the beasts in her arsenal. Might want to go calm your little mate, Rhysand"
Rhys shook his head. "Velaris is shielded from magic. My people and court are safe."
Mor spoke softly, a reminder to everyone in the room. "Not all drakes attack with magic, Rhys. Some can use the elements. Summoning the storm was the only magic it used, and the shield doesn't stop weather. Now, it gets to control the severity of it."
As if confirming Morrigan's warning, lightning struck Ramiel and thunder shook the ground again as rumble fell from the mountain top. The jaws of the three Illyrian males all twitched.
The sky became a show of lights as heavy rain began to pound down on the court, gathering faster than the ground and Sindra would be able to handle it. "It's going to flood the court," Mor realized slowly. "We are trapped in the valley of a mountain, Rhys. It's going to flood the court until it gets her back."
Rhys went up the stairs, rage fueling every step as Cassian kept pace with him.
Aerilyn jumped from where she stood near the balcony, watching as her true mount showed the Night Court not even a fraction of what he could do and a glimpse of the destruction he could bring. She knew he could level this little city, but had asked him not to through their bond.
Rhysand gripped her arm, turning her so quickly her head spun and pointed to the sky with his brows raised as if he expected her to answer. She cocked her head to him, blinking twice before pulling her arm from his grasp and moving towards Cassian faking fear. "What is your beast doing?" Rhysand growled at her, his eyes blazing with fury she had never seen or felt before. She didn't answer and he exploded.
"What the fuck is happening to my court?!" The demand in his voice had Aerilyn almost trembling. "What in the fuck is that thing doing?!"
She stared at him doe eyed, moving closer into the protection Cassian offered and keeping up her act. "Rhys, stop, she clearly doesn't understand you."
The High Lord looked enraged. Yanking the bond so hard Aerilyn released a small scream and fell to her knees. Cassian knelt to her immediately, craddling her head and holding her close to him. He had never felt powerless because of Rhysand, but he did now. "Call. It. Off." He growled at her. "Call your damned beast off before I kill it."
She held her chest, eyes wide as she looked between Rhys and Cassian. The High Lord's eyes softened temporarily, realizing his mate had no clue what that string was. Anger came back to him as another round of lightning stuck closer to the House of Wind.
Aerilyn knew that was a warning. A loud warning that if he hurt her again, if he shouted at her again, if he even detected fear down their sacred connect, the gates to hell would be opened, and death would follow.
Rhys went to the balcony, opening it and bracing himself as winds whipped and rain pelted him. He began to watch the sky, watching for any sign of the beast hiding in those dark clouds. A flash of light allowed him to have eyes on it, and he turned to his mate, finger pointed to where he now knew the dragon was hovering. He offered one last time, "Call of the drake, or I will blood Mist him."
Aerilyn looked between him and Cassian. Her brother's jaw was tight. "Rhysand, she doesn't understand. It is protecting her."
"And I'm protecting my fae and home," Rhysand growled to his general. "A home you also swore to protect, Cassian. Remember your place."
Cassian stood, his eyes narrowing. "Isn't my place at your side, brother?"
Rhys put his hand down, realizing the error in his sentence. "Cassian-"
"Don't bother." The illyrian male knelt back down to his sister.
"Please," she whispered. "Don't hurt him." Cassian's face fell slightly. "Gentle. Kind." Aerilyn was still playing her cards. Knowing she could not drop the faked persona until she knew one of them was going to protect her, until she knew one of them would return her. "Scared."
Cassian placed a large hand on her cheek. "You or the dragon?"
Her brows knit. "Both," Rhysand said slowly. "They're both afraid." The High Lord caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, realizing now how much he behaved like his father in this incident.
The rain lightened up at Aerilyn's command. Her mound came closer to the balcony, but still far enough away to prevent any physical attacks. Aerilyn moved to the balcony, and Rhys and Cassian both watched as her face fell into deep sadness. "Enlil," her hand went out and the dragon approached, getting close enough to her palm to allow her to touch his muzzle.
The males both immediately noted two things:
The first was that this dragon was truly a work of art. A large scaled body that appeared grey, but those scales had began to reflect the lights and surroundings, hiding him within plain sight to anyone looking. He had wings that Rhys could only describe as being similar to painted glass as gentle light passed through them. Even his ice blue eyes were beautiful, and shockingly to them both, filled with love and worship towards the female hugging him.
The second thing they noted was where Aerilyn and Enlil were touching was glowing with a faint blue light. It was as if the contact between them was a sign of magic. And to Rhysand's horror, he realized it was. He knew enough about dragon's and their riders to know this was a bond formed between their souls. His mate was this dragon's true mount.
And that meant had he misted this dragon, he would have killed her too.
The dragon could live without the rider, the rider could not live without the dragon. That bond was too fragile, too sacred, too powerful.
Rhys approached slowly, holding a hand back to Cassian. He knew drakes could understand the languages of the fae, and made an offer. "There is a cave, in the mountain," he pointed to it. "It used to be a dragon pit back when the Night Court had riders in their armies. It can comfortably fit 14 dragons."
The drake seemed to understand his offer, those crystalline eyes flicking back to his rider. "You can bring your hoards of treasures and other friends there, you will be safe there as she is here."
Rhysand dropped the scent ward he had on their mating bond, allowing the drake to sniff it out. He flew back slightly, sparing one last look towards Aerilyn and turned the rain to no more than a light Mist before flying away.
Rhys motioned for his mate to enter the room again and shut the balcony doors. He hid the hurt in his heart as Aerilyn tucked herself into Cassian's side again, using him as her shield.
A shield from him.
Rhysand's shoulders fell in defeat. "I need to know what I welcomed into my court."
Aerilyn just simply tucked further into Cassian's side, her soaked hair dripping onto the hardwood floor below her as she shivered.
Rhys nodded, closing his eyes, and walked out of the door. Amren, Azriel, and Mor all waited in the hall. "Amren, I need you to find books of the different types of drakes, preferably with pictures." The ancient being nodded and immediately left to go to work. "Azriel, how many were actually in the cave?" The shadowsinger didn't answer, his jaw set in a clenched hold. "I realize I fucked up, Azriel. I don't need you to tell me how badly. I already know."
"She has 7 total dragons in her possession. They all look different." He reported back calmly what his shadows had discovered. Azriel went to the door, knocking before entering. He greeted Cassian and Ari softly before shutting the door behind him.
Mor looked at Rhys. "You have to fix that."
The male nodded. "I will. After he calms her down and gets her to sleep."
-
Cassian held Aerilyn tight after he made her change into different warm clothing. She couldn't help but cuddle closer into him.
It was familiar, and she knew that. She knew his scent, his smile. She knew what he was to her, and she to him.
He placed a long kiss on her temple, a prayer going to any God that listened one more time as he wrapped a large wing around her. No words passed between the siblings, and no words needed to.
Her eyelids began to feel heavy quickly as his calloused hands began a long forgotten motion, running through her hair and scratching her scalp in all the right places.
"You're safe, sis," Cassian mumbled, falling into a light sleep of his own. "No one will ever hurt you again."
-
The inner circle sat at the dinner table, waiting for at least Cassian to appear.
Azriel was the last to see the siblings. He had said she was fine, just shaken up. Cassian he had not mentioned.
They heard a set of foot steps approach the room and Cassian entered silently. He took the plate from the place that had been set near Rhys to force proximity and moved it further down the table. He began taking food without permission from the High Lord and ate in silence.
Azriel began to eat as well, not wishing to push a clearly angry male to speak. Mor looked down then to Rhys, her eyes pleading with him to fix the situation.
"Cassian," Rhysand started slowly. The general grunted in response. "Is she okay?"
Cassian set his fork down. "Considering you threatened the only thing she's known as family for the past 300 years? Sure, Rhys, she's fine. She trusts us so much already." Cassian went back to eating, effectively ending any conversation before it could begin.
Rhys just looked down, pushing his own food around on his plate. He could feel she was heavily asleep, that her dreams were pleasant. "It was attacking my court, our home."
Cassian looked up at him slowly. "Because we kidnapped her from them and theirs. Because she doesn't feel safe and somehow that thing knows through the bond they share."
Amren's interest peaked, "She's bonded to one?" Rhys and Cassian both nodded. Amren just settled into her chair, silver eyes now ablaze with excitement. The ancient being sipped the liquid in her glass, a small smirk forming. "Woo her, Rhysand. That dragon will only leave if she dies, and if they were a pack, you could now have 7 damn near indestructible beasts at your whim."
Cassian pushed his plate away, standing and leaving the table.
The undeniable smell of anger was radiating off of his skin and tainting the air. Rhys felt his shoulders fall in defeat.
Cassian never left the table without finishing his meals.
He did tonight.
-
Aerilyn woke up to the sun shining in her room and the smell of something bitter. She wrinkled her nose as she sat up and caught sight of the short haired male who originally found her.
He was sitting in her room, looking out the balcony, a cup with steam rising from it in hand. He had a thick book resting on his lap and parchment on a table next to him.
Azriel raised his hand to her, motioning for her to come closer with a single finger.
She stood next to him, following where that finger now pointed. In a deep gentle voice he asked her, "Name?"
A solid black dragon with scales like spilled oil was sitting at the entrance of the cave put Rhys has allowed them access to. They were on shifts, watching her room perfectly from that ledge, and protecting each other. "Achlys."
Azriel nodded and held the book. "Type?"
Aerilyn went through the pages, doing her best to focus on pictures instead of reading. She finally reached the page regarding drakes of poison and pointed. Azriel pales slightly before adding the gentle giant to his started list. Under Enlil was pages to books and his power type. Now, under Achlys name was pages referring her.
He had 5 more spots set, but did not push her. He held the mug filled with the bitter black liquid up to her. "Try it."
She took the mug, fingers grazing his scarred hands and sniffed it. She took a tiny sip before looking at Azriel with a look of absolute devastation and betrayal.
Azriel couldn't help but to let out a loud laugh as he saw her eyes going wide, her bottom lip pouting out, and her nose scrunching. He took the mug from her and pulled out a separate parchment piece.
It has her name on the top along with little observations he's made regarding her. Under dislikes he added "Black Coffee," with an amused smile.
"Mean," she glared at him as he continued to laugh. Azriel faked insult and put his hand to his chest. Aerilyn couldn't help the sympathy flowing through her as she took on of his hands in hers. "Fire?" He just nodded, allowing her to study them.
Aerilyn wanted to drop the act. She wanted to ask who did this to him, where they were now, but she couldn't.  She settled with kissing his palm.
Azriel moved to her closet when she was done. Picking a soft two piece outfit for her. He spoke slowly to her, trying to ensure she understood. "Change and then food."
Her stomach made a noise of agreement and he laughed again, leaving the room to allow her to change from the t-shirt Cassian had been wearing yesterday. The clothing left little to the imagination. It was a deep plum color, but the fabric was sheer. The top dipped low in the front and ended before her navel, the long sleeves were sheer. The matching pants were also fairly sheer after the modesty paneling that would prevent her from being exposed.
Azriel entered the room as if knowing she was changed and immediately took her hand, pulling her into the hallway.
Aerilyn's mouth began to water as they went down the stairs, and her stomach made an when louder noise that had the male pausing, sending her a small look of sympathy, before continuing.
The house was stunning. Lavish furniture, golden balcony and lanterns. It was the most expensive place she had ever been, granted most of her days were spent in a cave surrounded by beasts and their individual hoards.
Azriel pulled her into a dinning room where the inner circle all sat waiting for him. "Brought a friend to breakfast," he said simply as they all stared in shock. He pulled a chair out for her, sitting her down across from Cassian before moving to sit next to her.
He began to pile food onto a plate, occasionally putting something under her nose to smell and only adding it if she nodded. Eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and countless fruits now sat on her plate.
He gave her the option of water and some dark purple color liquid that smelled like berries.
Cassian offered her a small smile. "No coffee?"
Azriel didn't freely give them the smiles he had been handing her. "Tried that. She looked at me like I just stolen everything warm and wonderful in her world."
A beautiful blonde laughed lightly. "Well you either drink coffee one or two ways, Azriel. Black or loaded with caramel and sugar. Balance is needed, Az!"
The room fell into hushed silence as the male who stood on the other end of the string Aerilyn had been studying entered.
He stared at her for a brief moment, his lips almost giving into a twitch and his eyes softening. He continued his walk to the head of the table and sat. "Good morning." A chorus of "Mornings" welcomed him as he began to take food. He looked directly at Aerilyn, "Man erin"
"Man Erin," she whispered back.
"Eat." Rhysand said to everyone. "We have a long day ahead of us."
Rhys and Aerilyn kept glancing at each other as they ate. One looking away when the other would notice them. She felt herself slightly flushing under his gaze, feelings she'd never had beginning to mix with the fear she felt towards him.
He was beautiful. Incredibly beautiful. Dark hair, a chiseled face, tanned skin. His eyes felt like starlight.
She wanted to map those eyes, log them like the ancient kings, watching them for hours until they were all they knew.
Rhys also felt emotions mixing with what he knew what physical attraction. The twins had done well cleaning her and allowing her features to be seen. Long dark hair fell into waves down to the curve of her ass that Rhysand wanted to sink his teeth into. Her high cheekbones and delicate jawline framed lush blush lips and eyes like melted chocolate.
She would be easy to physically fall in love with, and if he could woo her, if he could drop his pride long enough to open vulnerability between the two of them, maybe it would be easy for him to emotionally fall for her as well.
-
Cassian and Azriel led Aerilyn out of the House of Wind to an open area filled with sparing dummies. Cassian was radiating, he had been since the two shadow wraiths changed her into the training leathers she saw Illyrian warriors wearing when she'd spy on the camps. He had been since he inspected her perfected braided hair that was tucked and twisted to keep it out of her face and prevent it from being a target.
He had been since he saw his sister, exactly as she should have been.
Azriel moved away from them, setting something else up and then sat and waited for Rhysand. She knew he was joining them. Cassian pulled her to a table filled with battle maps and empty parchment as if it was his favorite personal space and he began to write.
Can you read? His handwriting was sharp almost as if he moved his hands like he was dicing an enemy with a knife instead of handling a pen.
"Yes," Aerilyn said.
Cassian rose a brow. You know what yes and no means?
"Yes."
He nodded a small smirk forming. Do you know how to fight?
Aerilyn looked at him, her own dark brows raising as Rhys and Azriel made their way over. She took the pen from Cassian, shocking the three of them. I fly dragons. I had to learn to fight.
Rhys sucked in a breath. "You can read and write." She nodded at him. "You just can't speak our language."
She wrote again, lying through her teeth still for reasons she was forgetting as today's kindness had become an almost comfort, all of them studying her like hawks that found prey. Never made it that far. Letters in your language have too many sounds. And there's weird bull shit rules. Like "to, two, and too." Who uses 3 words that's letters should all sound the same creating the same word 3 times but for some reason they all evidently mean something else?
Azriel closed his eyes, hiding a laugh with a cough and cleared his throat. "Yup. Definitely Cassian's sister. Makes what you two are doing next possibly easier, though."
Rhysand picked at his leathers, trying to remain indifferent despite the joy flooding both him and Aerilyn. He went into her mind again, finding one pathway that wasn't a mess of trauma and mistrust. He began following it to see if he could figure out what all Aerilyn knew. Her thoughts were in several languages with an occasional one in common tongue. Ancient Ruskian, the Old tongue, the language of the long lost elves, and several others.
A slow realization hit him and he looked at his brothers immediately expressing it to them in their minds. "You were not alone in those woods, were you?"
Aerilyn kept her eyes locked on the parchment, shaking her head. Can we just get the fighting over with? I don't want to talk about that.
Cassian almost began to bounce, beaming with excitement and joy. "After we warm and run, sunshine," he ruffled her hair as her face dropped completely.
No one said running would be involved. Aerilyn immediately turned towards the door, only to be stopped by Cassian quickly ripping her back and turning her to throw her over his shoulder. "No way, little one. You are not getting out of this, Aerilyn."
Aerilyn looked at Rhys, eyes pleading. "Please?" Her voice reminded him of red aged wine. Sultry, sweet, capable of convincing him to spend all of his money.
He wanted to give into her, to give into those big chocolate brown eyes begging him to stop this from happening, but they needed a baseline or her knowledge in everything to keep her safe, even if that safety one day was no longer with him.
He sighed heavily. "I'm sorry, darling. It is for your best interest."
Aerilyn collapsed 30 minutes later onto the training mat. They were trying to kill her. Rhysand sat next to her, lightly laughing as he handed her water.
Aerilyn hated cardio. She had always hated cardio. She did not even understand why cardio was a thing. She took the water, taking a drink before rolling to her stomach and laying in defeat.
Rhys poked her side, "I think she is done, Cassian." He could feel it through the bond, read it in her body language. He admired the pieces of her hair that had fallen from the braids. He watched her chest rising and falling. She had taken off the longer sleeved training shirt a while ago, exposing her toned arms and back in the tanktop. Despite the tanned skin, a peek of white was showing. A peek of a scar was showing.
She stiffened as he moved the shirt more and he blanched.
No care had been taken when her wings were removed. Deep thick scarred skin sat where her wing should have been. Cassian froze when he saw them as well, the night that her small wings where thrown to his feet immediately coming to the forefront of his mind.
Aerilyn moved away, standing with her back to the three of them, her posture began caving in on itself as her mind screamed insecurities at her.
She knew of beauty standards. She knew scars were not considered beautiful, and despite not being raised in normal society, she wanted to be beautiful. She wanted to be seen as beautiful.
She backed away as tears began to fall. "It's okay," Rhys moved to her, speaking softly. "It's okay, Ari."
She shook her head before breaking into a run into the house. Shadows followed her as Cassian stopped Rhys from following. "Give her a second," the general kept repeating.
But how was he supposed to give her a second? How was Rhys supposed to let his mate lock herself in her room and be alone?
How was he supposed to leave her alone when she didn't believe she was beautiful?
A loud roar broke them all from their trance and their heads snapped to the opening near the mountain. Azriel began to back away, panic and fear setting into him as a large red and gold bodied drake flew towards Aerilyn's balcony.
They didn't need her to tell them what kind of beast that was nor the destruction it could bring.
They all already knew, and this confirmed a deep set fear they had.
Aerilyn had access to a fire Drake.
Rhysand put himself between Azriel and where the dragon flew.
"No one speaks a word of this. Knowledge that there is a fire Drake does not leave our boarders. I do not want to deal with Beron anytime soon. It's bad enough we already have to hide the Storm Drake from Tamlin."
Cassian released a shaking breath. "What happens if this all comes out, Rhysand?"
The High Lord shook his head, his mind reeling. "You will lose your sister, I will lose my mate, and those poor beasts that simply want to live and protect her will be hunted or used until their deaths. We keep it quiet to keep them safe."
The three brothers nodded as the flame dragon began to fly back to the cave, something sparkling in its claws.
Azriel, despite his fear, let out a small laugh. "It took a lantern."
The statement broke the tension that had been building between the three males since her arrival. Cassian's loud booming laughter lead to Rhysand's own deep chuckles, and then Azriel's own rang out joining them.
Aerilyn appeared seconds later, a guilty look on her teary face. Her hands clasped in front of her, and she rocked back and forth. Her small motions made their laughter increase and soon her own bell-like giggles started.
She realized slowly, watching the three of them laugh and feeling Rhysand's unadulterated love for the two other males, and the sheer happiness he felt, that she could get used to this. She walked to Azriel, the book on drakes and his sheet in hand to the table and wrote a few simple words. "Hestia. Fire Drake. Likes gems and gold."

Well...here we are again. I'm just not capable of leaving things unfinished and starting something else it seems. A fault that effects both my reading and writing experience. So without further ado, here we go...
✨ House of Flame and Shadow reactions, part one:
· Lydia and Ruhn 😭😭😭
· Is this going to make me hate Rhys? I like to pretend any scene with him in it in ACOSF just never happened and now I’m…nervous.
· I also want to punch Amren in the face for being rude to Nesta 🙄 I'm sorry, I like her now, ok? And you wanted her help so stop being a fucking bitch
· Tharion is such a fucking idiot, you don’t like being bound? WHY DID YOU DO IT THEN? Literally NOTHING about that choice made any sense, you’re a moron and now your silly werewolf boyfriend is going to have to come and save your ass
· Not SJM still trying to convince us the Danika was the best person ever 🙄
· Hunt is LITERALLY BEING TORTURED and envisioning himself fucking Bryce?? What the fuck is this??? I hate this guy so much 😭
· "Is it possible," Aidas said to his brother, ignoring Hunt entirely—DUDE I wish I could do that because he's so fucking annoying
· Lydiaaaaaaa 😭 threatening everyone into helping her save Ruhn like the girlboss she is 😭 I love her so much

Legend of a Mortal Love
┊ ➶ rhys x oc
┊ ➶ part four
part three
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"I can't believe you're doing this," Tara grunted again, rubbing the dirt off her hands so hard they turned red.
"I already explained, I had no choice but to say yes," Ariadne sighed, tired of the fight they'd been in for ten minutes now.
"Yes, but you're getting too much into something dangerous, something very dangerous!" The redhead sent a splash of water flying towards Ariadne’s face as she hit the puddle of water with her hands.
"What do you want me to do, tell the princess no?" Ariadne was getting extremely tired of her friends' attitude, and considering they hadn't made enough work to eat today, she was in neither the mood nor the physical condition to argue anymore.
"Ari, I just want to take care of you. You know damn well for who this is going to end bad, and let me tell you, it's certainly not going to be for them. You'll end up hurt, or worse, dead."
Ariadne rose from the floor with a grunt and an exasperated roll of her eyes.
"When I need you to tell me what's good for me or not, I'll tell you. Don't think me so stupid, Tara," and with that she left to lie down in her sleeping space, rolling over so she wouldn't see Tara when she came to lie next to her.
The place on her wrists where her chains had been a few minutes ago felt sore from wounds accumulated over the years that had never had a chance to heal. Ariadne had grown so accustomed to them that the few moments when she did not have them on her felt weird. Of course, their absence was replaced by those on her ankles, which would make it impossible for her to run. Not that any human could outrun a High Fae, with or without chains.
Ariadne had trouble sleeping that night, with the whole conversation with Tara replaying in her mind. Yes, she was well aware of the mistakes she was making, and the fact that there was only one possible outcome to her situation, and it was certainly not a pretty one.
It was one that would end her when Rhysand and the other High Fae’s got tired of her, when she stopped being interesting and started to become a liability. They weren't bad people, maybe, but still, there was no possible way Ariadne was going to get out of this alive.
And, being honest, would that be so bad?
༺ ♡ ༻
"And remember, if you get dizzy or anything, let me know, okay?
Too late for that, Ariadne had begun to grow dizzy as she stepped out into the open night and into the Lady of Night's view.
She nodded to Rhiannon, not daring to look up and see the female’s hazel eyes digging into her soul.
Rhiannon's mother's voice had sounded so sweet when she greeted her children, but Ariadne only needed to glance up and see her great bat wings, the black diamond tiara on her head and the shimmering black dress, to be instantly intimidated and lower her head again.
Then Rhysand had arrived, and from being dizzy, Ariadne had stopped breathing altogether and felt as if she would sooner faint than reach Velaris. His piercing, relentless purple gaze on her did nothing to calm her nerves, but only increased them with each passing heartbeat.
So, yes, she didn't feel dizzy, but rather physically ill.
Rhiannon held out her hand and Ariadne was not quick enough to grasp the situation.
One second, she was outside the Moonstone Palace, and the next, the world began to change so rapidly around her that it became impossible to find her ground. The chains weighed so heavily on her wrists that it seemed as if she was going to sink into this endless spinning of the world around her.
Just when she was beginning to beg the Mother to end it, it finally did. Everything stopped, the moon light and the wind hit her face so hard she had to gasp for breath.
She fell backwards, stumbling against the chains and the sickness that hit her so hard she didn't have time to take in the city in front of her.
A pair of arms caught her before she fell to the floor and embarrassed herself any further. At first, because the world was still spinning around her, she thought it had been Rhiannon, but then, as the arms felt muscular and much bigger against her, she realised that they couldn't possibly belong to the female.
Ariadne opened her blurry eyes and was instantly greeted by the black sky and the thousands of bright stars, and then by a purple gaze unlike the one she was used to in the palace kitchens. No, those were like a living night sky, full of secrets, but more beautiful than anything else.
"Are you all right?" Rhysand smiled sideways as cheekily as he could.
"Perfectly...", but her lies were stopped instantly by the gagging sound that came from her mouth.
Ariadne put a hand to her mouth with embarrassment written all over her face, as Rhysand smiled so simply again and laughed so lightly that the sound vibrated through her body.
"Always lying to me, aren't you?" His deep, cheeky voice sent shivers down her spine.
"I'm not lying, I've been through a lot worst than nausea."
Ariadne released herself from his grip and swallowed her nausea. The confident expression on Rhysand's face changed to a strange frown. But Ariadne paid him no mind as she returned to Rhiannon's side.
"You can look up now. My mother has gone to see my father."
She took a moment to consider it, still not feeling entirely well from the whole winnowing thing, nauseous enough to threaten to make a gruesome scene for Rhysand to once again discover her façade.
So she waited a couple of seconds before slowly raising her head from the perfectly cut grass. The scene before her took her breath away, and the nausea.
Ariadne had always loved the stars, they were the only escape she had in the Court of Nightmares, and she had always thought them beautiful, but this, this made her lungs ache for breath. It was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. The mountains that seemed to touch the sky, the river that reflected the stunning night. The small town, full of light and life, and the stars, oh, the beautiful stars.
"Welcome to Velaris, Ariadne," Rhiannon murmured behind her, a pleasant smile on her lips at the look of astonishment and ease on the human's face.
Ariadne's heart was beating so fast in her chest that she had to put a hand on it to make sure it wasn't going to burst out. All the dreams she had ever had could not compare to what her eyes were seeing at that moment, none could come close to the beauty of it all, and for the first time in a long, long time, a genuine, carefree smile joined the glow above and below.
༺ ♡ ༻
Velaris was beautiful. Full of live and color and music. Rhiannon had taken her to a tour around the city, but her ultimate favorite place had been the Rainbow. The music and colors in that side of the city had been absolutely breathtaking. They had stayed there for hours, and when her feet became sore and painful, Rhiannon, noticing her tiredness, called it a night.
“We’re staying in the Town House with Rhys and his friends, and Mor as well of course. My parents are staying at the House of Wind. So you won’t have to worry, ok?”
Some mighty words said to someone who was always worrying. But Ariadne nodded nonetheless to appease Rhiannon.
“Great, so, considering we’re far away from it, and I can already tell you’re tired, we have two options. Number one, we winnow, but seeing as you didn’t took it pretty well last time, I don’t know if that’s a great idea.”
Yeah, definitely not a great idea. Just to think that they would have to winnow again to get back to the Court made her stomach twist.
“And number two?”
“Number two…we fly,” Rhiannon said in a cheerful tone, flexing her bat-like wings.
Ariadne sighed, none of those options seemed like a formidable one. Just to think about being several feet away from the ground with little support whatsoever…but on the other side, to feel again like she did winnowing…
“I guess I’ll have to take my chances with flying.”
While Rhiannon beamed happily, Ariadne frowned in an attempt of a smile, but the fear in her face was way too evident to try to hide it.
Rhiannon grabbed her by the waist, telling her to wrap her legs around her, and then shot to the sky with a powerful thud, Ariadne had to suppress a scream, and instead gasped when the air hit her hard in the face.
“Wow you’re strong,” she breathed at the ease with which Rhiannon held her.
“You’re really light,” the female laughed.
Ariadne tried not to grimace. Light was one of the only two weights among slaves: you were either light and skinny for malnutrition, or built like a tree for the hard-weight work some had to do.
The fear of flying started to lower little by little, and then it actually felt nice; the wind in her face, the city above. Then they landed, and that appreciation of the moment ended when Ariadne felt a horrible dizziness hit her and an insane amount of nausea on her throat.
Nor winnowing nor flying, she would rather stick to walking the next time.
Rhiannon guided them towards a beautiful wood and marble house. Inside, a hustle of noises rang as soon as the dark-haired female opened the door.
“Oh, there she is!” Ariadne kept her distance as a big, hulking male stepped from the antechamber and into the foyer with a smile and big, muscular arms opened.
He picked the Princess up off her feet and swirl her around. Rhiannon laughed harmoniously and much more carefree than Ariadne had ever heard her. This one must be Cassian, if Ariadne could remember for Rhiannon’s stories.
“Cass! Put me down!” Rhiannon laughed, and then, behind the male, came another one.
Less muscular and not so tall as the other one, his face was perfectly crafted, a very, very handsome male, Ariadne had to say. But there was something about him that made the hairs in her body stand to end, maybe the shadows that seemed to move whenever he did. Or the fact that that same perfection crafted in his perfect face seemed to be hiding death itself. Yeah, definitely the shadows, she had faced death too many times to be scared of it.
“Az!” Rhiannon beamed with happiness when she saw the male.
Oh, so this one was Azriel. Ariadne tried hard not to smile as she saw the male give Rhiannon such a sweet look and smile while he wrapped his arms around her and squeezed her tightly. The look in his face not reveling as much sentiment as his hazel eyes, but enough that Ariadne read the feelings of appreciation in them.
“You came!” She had been so focused on Azriel and Rhiannon she had not noticed the presence of someone else beside her.
Ariadne jumped in surprise at the sudden voice, and when she turned, she saw the impossibly beautiful face of Morrigan smiling at her.
“Oh, uhm-”
“Rhi, who’s our new guest?” The big male came closer when he finally noticed her, and Ariadne began to feel a little nervous with all the looks that were on her and the Fae surrounding her. “Hello, beautiful lady, my name is Cassian, and you are?”
“Ariadne. And stop, Cass, you’re scaring her,” a voice she knew all too well sounded from the stairs.
Her hair stood on end and her throat dried when Rhysand’s figure came closer to them, his hands on his pockets, as pristine as he ever was.
“I’m not scaring her you idiot, I’m just getting to know her,” Cassian turned around to face Rhys with an indignant stare, but then turned to look back at her. “I’m not scaring you, am I?” When Ariadne shook her head slightly, Cassian raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms at Rhysand as if to say ‘told you so’.
A hilarious scene, to see such a big male doing such a childish thing.
“How’s your leg?” Morrigan asked, making Ariadne look at her again.
“Uhm, better, thank you.”
“What happened to your leg?” Cassian asked, and Ariadne cringed.
“See? Now you’ve made her uncomfortable,” Rhys said, and Cassian and him started arguing about wether or not Cassian was making her uncomfortable.
“Oh, dear Mother,” Morrigan laughed, and unexpectedly grabbed Ariadne’s hand. “Come, I’ll show you-”
The blonde stoped her words when she felt the cold of the metal around her wrists. Ariadne immediately left Morrigan’s eyes.
“I couldn’t take them off, I didn’t know how to,” Rhiannon said next to Azriel.
Suddenly the whole room fell silent, not even Cassian’s and Rhysand’s fight could be heard. And again, Ariadne felt all those stares on her, and she just wanted to curl up and disappear, it was as if all her obvious weaknesses where being pinpointed in a room full of extraordinarily perfect beings.
“I’ll help you with that,” Morrigan smiled sweetly, and took her hand again.
Ariadne wasn’t really sure of what was going on, or if she should trust all this Fae, most probably not, really, but she accepted Morrigan’s help nonetheless, it wasn’t as if she had any option anyway. She would have to trust they still hadn’t got tired of her mortality, and just as she was going up the staircase following the blonde female, she turned her head discreetly, finding that Rhysand’s violet night-sky eyes were following her every move. He gave her one of his side smirks, and Ariadne instantly got an answer to her own question, one she wasn’t entirely sure if she was grateful for, or even more concerned.

acotar sailor moon au
So, so far, who's who?
*I decided to end up switching Cresseida and Nesta because of the vibes
The only rule here is that when the Transformation happens, they gender swap (for shenanigans) + plus Japanese terms and vague setting
Also y'all, I'm not a zodiac person, I just did this for fun, don't take it too seriously okay?? Okay???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Moon (Purple) Cancer = Rhysand
Cancer: emotional, intuitive, sometimes insecure, associated with water and the moon (misting and stuff)
bocchan, spoiled, flirtatious
Thinking of having the sailor uniform be a mix of yellow, dark blue, and switch out the red for purple. Princess Serenity transformation is similar: white hair, white clothes, but violet eyes.
Was thinking maybe (as a hc) when Princess Serenity went to the human world, she used a different identity maybe?? Maybe a name like Rhiannon??? (aka similar to how Rhys looks now with black hair)
A spoiled rich kid, went to private school until he weaseled his way into public school (with his cousin Mor) and met Cassian. Az tagged along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Mercury (Blue) Virgo = Azriel
Virgo: humble, practical, sympathetic, water sign (blue siphon + also associated with mist)
secret bodyguard to bocchan Rhys, a smart kid, straight A student, pushes up glasses with a glint, has those thin sleek glasses, tsundere chuuni otaku, has a knife somewhere, used to clash with Cassian, very protective of Rhys, learns to open up as a friend, always takes the mission serious
fights a lot against Zoisite-Eris (as Sailor Mercury) and also has lessons with Teacher Eris (as a regular college student)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Mars (Red) Aries = Cassian
Aries: wants to prove himself, values strength, competitive, impatient, active, fire sign (red siphon)
a high school delinquent, once had a pompadour, in a biker gang for sure, made fast friends with Rhys, Azriel saw Cassian as a safety risk, now they just bicker, fought in a gang war with Mor once and they came out bros, sees Rhys as his brother (Rhys definitely calls him Aniki just because it's hilarious how quickly it goes to his head), likes attention, a bit arrogant
was thinking to originally be Mor cause red, but idk vibes??? tbh you could switch around Rei, Mako, and Minako and they would all work in some way (but I'm adding a bit of OOC since I'm character building them)
I personally think Cassian should have had a goofy prince like personality in the book (for compensating for being a 'bastard') and actually accepts that he's people's hero while also being deeply insecure about it (and that's why Eris's barbs about him would hit harder)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Jupiter (Green) Sagittarius = Mor
Sagittarius: faithful, intelligent, forceful, sympathetic, values freedom, fire sign
a ex-sukeban, got into a lot of fights with Cassian's gang, used to smoke until a pretty girl said they hated the smell, eats pocky instead, has gotten expelled a few times, bubbly, used to carry a bat around, first girlfriend was in elementary school (except she didn't know they were Dating until the Incident), also has a bike, likes partying, has the highest alcohol tolerance but is confused how she's beaten by a talking cat, teases everyone (no one is safe)
the only one to gender swap into a guy, flirts with all the women she saves, ends up coming off as a playboy, saves Nesta once and fell in love, Nesta hates her flirty attitude as Sailor Jupiter but slowly becomes friends with Mor because Clare suddenly starts hanging out with Mor
Clare ends up finding out her identity and it causes Problems
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Venus (Orange) Libra = Lucien
Libra: extroverted, friendly, has always wanted peace (with family, with life choices), honest, blunt, persuasive, charming, charismatic
grew up in a strict home with Eris, the problem child, seemingly very open with people but can close up if he's insecure, had a close relationship with Eris until Beron strained their relationship, was a solo Sailor Senshi with Varian (cat form) until joining everyone, has angst with fighting against Zoisite Eris
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tuxedo Mask (Leo) = Tamlin
Leo: compassionate, big-hearted, natural leadership, self-assured, fire sign
This guy has three outfit ideas: Civilian Mamoru - wears a dark green suit like in the anime, thinks he's cool but is not, is cool when he's not trying to be, has chin length hair with those round spiral glasses, goes from Clark Kent to Superman basically, instantly clashes with Rhys / Tuxedo Mask - the traditional black tuxedo, roses, roses everywhere, has a mask too, this time his hair is tied back and grows out to his shoulders (because anime logic), Sailor Moon Rhys and Tuxedo Mask Tam have a very obvious Thing going on / Endymion - the completely white outfit, this time his hair gets extra long because it's his Final Form but it's not tied, flows in the wind very majestically (Pantene commercial esque, very angst)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoisite = Eris
the vibes mostly (the hair)
but fun stuff is that Zoisite was with Kunzite in the 90s anime but was hinted in the manga to be with Sailor Mercury (not really but)
Kunzite was originally Nesta but now it's Cresseida, so ship vibes?? But the only ship that's set is tamsand rn (and tarlain)
Started working with Queen Beryl (Amarantha) because she promised to punish his father (something Eris didn't have the power to do without causing a lot of trouble)
Also works as a teacher sometimes now that his father is out of commission
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jadeite = Feyre
pretty boy, grey eyes
but was recruited by Amarantha to save their father's life (who's human), contrasted with Cassian, once Feyre 'dies' and was forced to give up the power Amarantha gave her, she meshes really well with the gang
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nephrite = Nesta
the first picture gives me Nesta vibes
has a romance arc with Naru Clare because I'm personally sweet on Nesta/Clare, but angst because Clare doesn't know Nephrite is Nesta, is trying her best to save their father (currently held hostage by Amarantha)
Was originally Cresseida to opposite Mor but I changed my mind (my intuition said so)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kunzite = Cresseida
I was convinced by the white hair and cresseris possibility but
she's forcibly recruited by Amarantha unlike the others that 'willingly' work for her, but eventually defects with the help of Tarquin after she finds out about his other identity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Pluto (Scorpio) = Jurian
for laughs mostly
but also because I needed a milf/dilf in here fr
and Jurian in canon also finds himself out of time from being an eye
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Uranus (Aquarius) = Elain
trans Elain agenda always
watches over her father while her sisters are being evil, ends up getting recruited by Varian to save them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Neptune (Pisces) = Tarquin
sea vibes (my sign, so best)
uhhh has cute moments with Elain
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Saturn (Capricorn) = Emerie
literally the last one, and we need more Emerie content
(based off their hair color)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luna (Black Hair) = Amren
Artemis (White Hair) = Varian
Naru = Clare
Queen Beryl = Amarantha

🌸About me~🌸
Tumblr media
Soooo I'm not the same person I was when I made the first about me.
So I figured I should make a new one because new me, new about me.
And it's also because my old one got lost heh
Welp I'm 19 and my birthdate is still 24th November and I'm still Indian.
I'm an Aries
But I'm not obsessed with Paxtan hall yoshida anymore (it was just a phase)
Instead I am now obsessed with books and book boyfriends
I've been single since birth because I prefer 2d men over 3d men
I mean no man in real life will be as good as a fictional man. And I've discovered a new hobby.
I now read books and novels. Romance and dark romance of course.
And although the plan of being a professor still exists, I'm also gonna start writing a book. I want to be an author.
I still love horror.
I'm in dire need of a fictional boyfriend who's willing to burn the world for me.
I also read mangas and webtoons. Again,no man is better than a fictional man.
so if anyone knows a good 6'5 ex navy man rhys larsen then kindly introduce him to me.
I would still love to talk with y'all so feel free to text me.
My back lab Oreo is about to be 2 years old and my eyes are still brown.
I'm still studying very hard to get rich and have a room full of books and BTS albums.
So that's the same ol' boring me.

CHARACTERS:
MOVIE CHARACTER: Twilight - Emmett Cullen Spiderman - Eddie Brock The Punisher - Frank Castle TRIGGERS : none
BIO  - TW mentions smoking and hunting.
Growing up in the household of his family was not easy, it was a well-structured and concise family. He grew up in Missouri, Kansas city. Nothing was out of place, nothing could be said wrong of the member of the family. However, what goes behind closed doors, remains within. Rhys was the only child, the prime example of what not to have. Every day his father would make notes to remind him that he was nothing compared to him. While his mother was for appearances, his father only showed command, and strict rules. His childhood consisted of discipline. He wanted a son that was educated, smart, and poised. All things that Rhys was not. he was in fact rebellious, smoked cigarettes, and failed in all his courses. He was considered weak in his father's eyes.
it was as if rhys had to prepare everything, his mother was nowhere in sight and she ended up having an affair leaving them. rhys was just 10 years old. he practically raised himself after that. the tension and anger for his father built up over the years. high school was more for him to just let off steam. he'd have flings, hang out with the wrong crowd. college wasn't something he was going to go through with.
Not to mention hunting, a passion of his father to hunt animals and make a scene. There would be sounds of howling, of animals dying almost. One could say his father trained him to hunt, however that was not in the cards for someone like Rhys. So instead of staying in a town that was not for him, he wanted to travel away from his father. He hitched a ride and left town for good. he spent most of his time having fun, learning new styles of fighting, and living his life.
eventually this landed him in huntsville, and now he can't escape.
CONNECTIONS
Wild friend- open- someone that completely changed his life, for the better or worse? he does not know, nor does he care. the life he had left behind was forgotten, and he moved forward. this person would become someone he found himself confiding in, no matter their differences.
Enemy - he fights with this person, maybe enemies to something more? i'd like to see the tension, angst or just anger hash out?
Fling - no emotional attachment whatsoever, he does not seek a relationship. he merely uses your muse. Whenever he feels like it really.
Warm soul - perhaps your muse has something special about them that somewhat reminds rhys that people can be good. he may find himself showing something, a smile, but that is brief.

Find the Words
Tagged by @saphoblin and tasked to find the words haunted, hear, haste, horror, and health in one of my works. I chose some long excerpts, so everything's under the cut. (Excerpts are a mix of unpublished original stories and works that are or soon to be on AO3.)
Not tagging anybody in particular, but if you want to play, I challenge you to find these words: sheepish, storm, soft, switch, and sing.
Haunted, Zach and Nav (placeholder title), unpublished original work
Zach followed close behind and Deyval pulled up in the rear. While their shoes crunched over ice, Zach muttered, “This place is giving me the creeps. What happened here?”
Deyval glanced up at a long line of thick icicles as they crossed beneath them. “Global nuclear winter, maybe?”
Zach looked aghast. “The whole planet can’t be like this, can it?”
“Some are,” Markus said.
“I’m picking up a signal.” Alphie began pulling up information about the planet on Zach’s glasses and translating it. “Standby. Connection speed is poor due to insufficient trans-galactic transmission points.”
Zach didn’t like the sound of that, but he continued walking while he read through everything Alphie found him. The area they had landed in specifically had been ravaged by a war with AI some decades ago, forcing the organic inhabitants to flee the area, but the region had always been cold. It was now considered a no-fly zone and illegal to trespass.
“So this place is haunted.” Zach pulled Deyval’s coat tighter around himself.
Hear, Amber Giant (placeholder title), unpublished original work
When the sun dipped below the horizon, Arlo cupped his hands together and made a wisp light. It rose off his palms, and he guided it to float near his waist, on his left side. It bobbed slowly while he continued walking and calling out Rhys’ name.
After a few more minutes, Arlo heard Rhys answer, “Over here!”
“Oh!” Arlo quickly turned towards his voice. “I hear you! Keep talking!”
“Be careful coming over here.” Rhys’ voice sounded strained, like he was in pain. “There’s a ridge under the ivy that’s steeper than it looks.”
“Okay. What happened?” As Arlo neared the area, he slowed down and made a second, bigger wisp light. He tossed this one ahead to illuminate the ivy.
“I fell and fucked up my ankle.” Rhys held up his hand to shield his eyes from the wisp’s light. “Is Eren with you?”
“No, I left him at camp.” Arlo carefully navigated the slope. He could see why Rhys missed it. Fallen trees lay underneath the ivy, creating the illusion of more land for just an arm span.
Haste, Who Remembers a God, Chapter 9: “How much can you fit into those pockets?”
As Lucas polished off one of the jars of turnips as a meager lunch, having slowed to walk, he began to feel rather silly for taking the trouble to come out here. Ari was clearly a very capable ranger after all, just as Scarlett had assured him. Lucas could not imagine he would be of any useful assistance against the creatures they so easily banished.
All he could reasonably offer, Lucas supposed, was guidance through the cavern itself. The labyrinthine interior had taken him a good deal of time to navigate. His experience could possibly hasten Ari’s passage. Furthermore, he realized he had failed to mention where exactly he had awoken inside the caverns. Surely that would be necessary information.
Lucas narrowed his eyes, wondering if it was possible to speed up his travels and close the distance between him and Ari. Eliza had said Return worked in two parts, creating the anchor and then returning to it. When he used his teleportation skill, however, he had simply looked at the object, envisioned where he wanted it, and then… moved it. Just not with his hands or the runes within him that powered his spells.
The more Lucas thought about it, the stranger it seemed. What exactly was he using to teleport objects? It was not his hands or runes, and yet it was still some invisible, incorporeal part of himself. He knew because he had a distinct sense of proprioception when he used the trick, impossible as it seemed. Like an extra limb, almost, except nothing so simple and singular in purpose.
Horror, Go Off the Deep End, Chapter 4: “Why don’t you try meeting someone new?”
When they neared the surface, Silas froze. In the mess of broken wood and tangled ropes floated the face-down bodies of humans.
“What…? Oh, gods.” Gale stopped beside Silas. “Are they all dead?”
“I… I don’t know.” Silas shook his head disbelievingly, eyes picking through the wreckage. He swallowed hard and continued swimming up. “Help me look.”
“Are you serious?” Gale looked horrorstruck. “Silas, even if any of them are alive, what are we supposed to do?”
“I don’t know!” Silas stopped beneath one man, but put his hand over his mouth against the urge to throw up. The man’s throat was slit open. Tearing away his gaze, Silas darted to another man. His neck was also cut. One of his earlobes was torn as well, as if someone had ripped out an earring. The third man he found was stabbed through the chest. As he continued checking each body, he said, “All of them were killed.”
“Holy shit.” Gale watched Silas at a distance, unable to make himself go near the dead bodies. “We shouldn’t be here. Sharks are going to smell the blood.”
“Then keep an eye out for them.” Silas circled the wreckage again as he finished looking over the bodies. His initial horror was fading to pity. There were no survivors. This was not his first time encountering the remains of dead humans, but he had never seen them so fresh. Silas inclined his head. Putting a fist over his heart, he murmured a prayer to Kazima to guide their spirits and help them find refuge with her in the abyss. He didn’t know if humans who died on land went to the same place as merfolk, but he couldn’t fathom them going anywhere else if they died at sea.
When Silas finished his prayer, he turned back to Gale. “Come on.” He began swimming down. “There’s probably stuff in the sand beneath them.”
Health, Who Remembers a God, Chapter 21: “If it means I get to know you better, it’s worth it.”
“Not all threats are life-threatening,” Scarlett said. “Some are merely warning signs of a greater issue. Consider this example: if I pointed out litter along the river, what would you think?”
“Uh, that somebody was being a jerk? Or that maybe the wind blew it into the water upstream?”
“Both are possibilities. If it is the former, it is our responsibility to track down the perpetrator and put a stop to it. However, the cause isn’t always that simple.” Scarlett faced the road ahead, a distant look coming across her expression. “My father taught me how to gauge the health of your home by looking at small signs. Cracks in sidewalks may point to infrastructure issues, which relate back to housing and taxation or neglectful city employees. As rangers of SEED, we have little authority to affect change in those areas, but still, we can bring attention to those issues to our public stewards.
“Litter can reveal a different kind of story,” Scarlett continued. “Paper scrap is almost always accidental. The wind catches it easily. Heavier items like bottles and cans are usually the result of lazy park-goers or people who can’t locate a convenient public receptacle, which again relates to public stewardship. Alcohol bottles in scenic areas are usually the result of a party, but if they’re in secluded areas, it suggests someone may be struggling with housing insecurity. If we can locate that person, we can potentially help them or get them in contact with specialized services.”
“That makes sense, I think,” Ari said, a bit amazed that someone would pay that much attention to trash. It explained why Scarlett was so obsessed with details, though, if she got it from her father. Also made it a bigger shame that Ari would never get to meet him.

Flight Patterns pt 4
Tumblr media
Summary- After years of hushed whispers and leads, Azriel has finally found Cassian's lost sister, Aerilyn. What he found with her was unexpected, though.
Warnings- character injury, miscommunication, mutual pinning
A/N- I had originally planned on this ending at a different point, but I liked how where it ends now flows into what is going to happen in the next chapter. If you all remember my poll from earlier, you may know where this is going. You aren't getting smut, yet, but you will get some romance, and some dragon time, in the next chapter.

Aerilyn needed this to stop being the norm.
In the mornings, she would eat breakfast with her favorite trio of winged idiots, train, then find herself changed into a pretty dress and curled up in Rhysand's office while he worked.
It never took long, and it appeared today it wouldn't either. Rhys would come to the couch sitting close to her and using the glass coffee table as a desk instead of the large rich mahogany one. Sometimes it turned into him laying with her between his legs, reclined back deep into a report while she either read or slept. Sometimes soft brushes of skin would haunt her in her sleep until the next day when the cycle began again.
The relationship, if she felt bold enough to call it that, between them had started to head into a direction Aerilyn knew she didn't understand. When Rhys touched her, if felt like she was alive for the first time. Even just his hand brushing her thigh as he'd reach for the expensive wine she'd begun to associate with the smell of him had her soul dancing.
And, Aerilyn, despise all the languages she spoke, all the places she had traveled, her knowledge of beasts thought to be extinct, and her, unknown to her, powers did not understand what was happening.
She didn't understand the sudden shift in her heart rate when she'd see him in the mornings.
She didn't understand the sudden need to be around him, the desire to be close to him.
She didn't understand a thing about love.
Nor how to act on those feelings.
Rhysand was rarely accused of being a patient male. He'd heard no from his father many times, but rarely from a female. To his credit, though, he was trying.
Trying to be calm when her scent hit him.
Trying to be calm when she'd fall asleep between his legs, head resting in his chest as if his heartbeat was her personal lullaby.
Trying to be calm when they'd find their faces inches apart when they would tease each other and playfully argue.
Rhys dodged a well timed punch from Azriel. The three brothers were enjoying a mid-afternoon training session. All three of them had grown tired of reports, of being trapped inside, and were all eager to blow off steam.
They smiled at each other, a knowing look shared. “Get your head back into training, lover boy,” Azriel circled him. “Thinking about Ari a bit too much lately.”
Rhysand's eyes glanced to where she currently sat, a book in her hands that she had not been able to put down the past day or so. Her long dark hair had been fishtailed to the side with a few loose curls falling and framing her face. She was wearing one of his sweaters and black leggings, her cheeks and the tip of her nose slightly pinked from the cold.
Rhys was so distracted by his mate, by her beauty, that he hadn't noticed Azriel going for a leg sweep that caught him in his knees. He felt his back hit the ground, and then his breath leaving his lungs. Cassian's booming laugh could be heard the second he realized what had happened. Aerilyn had stood, concern flooding down the bond, as Azriel celebrated.
Rhys blinked a few times, pulling himself up and glaring as Azriel flipped him off, a rare large smile on his face.
Rhys was not a patient male, but Gods he was trying. He just wished trying didn't come at the expense of his pride.
Aerilyn closed her eyes, relaxing into Rhysand as he flew her to the dragon pit. He had started taking her once a week. Enjoying the 15 minutes he had her in his arms and her enjoying them silently as well.
He wanted to negotiate snowfall in Velaris this year with Enlil and Eirwen. He had purchased Eirwen two beautiful spools of a soft fabric with hand sewn in bead and gem work. Aerilyn had warned him Hestia may have become jealous, so the High Lord had also purchased Hestia, a large raw cut diamond. For Enlil, he had Azriel travel to Day, asking Helion for help collecting one of the sharp strange flora that bloomed there. He had put it in a pot that was enchanted to ensure it always had what it needed. “Do you think they'll give us extra snow?” He tried to hide a smile at the idea. “Just a few inches, of course. It will help with our yearly snowball fight.”
Aerilyn popped her eyes open, admiring his full-blown smile as a nervous butterfly feeling set in her stomach. “Snowball fight?”
Rhys smiled into her hair. “Every year, Cassian, Azriel, and I have a snowball fight for solstice. Azriel has won the past several years, and I'm thinking extra snow may throw him off.” He looked down at her as he landed. “Thoughts?”
She knew he already knew her thoughts and feelings on it. He was in her head constantly. On accident, on purpose, for fun. It should have annoyed her, but his occasional sass filled responses to her thoughts were a constant comfort as she continued to adapt to being around civilization.
“I do not believe additional snow is going to affect Azriel's ability to throw a snowball. It may, however, increase the amount he throws.” Rhysand's smile dropped, having not thought about that aspect, but it was too late to turn back. The noise of content growls, and chirps could be heard as Aerilyn entered the pit.
He'd never get over seeing her like this. The overwhelming sense of peace that'd wash over her when she'd place her head on Enlil snout. The way the two of them glowed with power and love.
He moved away, giving them their private greeting as he looked to Eirwen. The beautiful dragoness had herself curled into several spools of fabric his own mother would have fought for while she was alive. They were heavy cottons. soft, silky, warm, and clearly from somewhere overseas based on the deep royal purple and red hues. She opened an ice-like eye at him, huffing slightly as he opened his pocket world and pulled out those glittering fabrics. Enlil and Aerilyn had moved, his mate riding on her mounts claw instead of walking.
“You have her attention.” And Aerilyn had his. His mind went completely blank as he watched her being so carefree, so untouched by fear that she wasn't even holding on as Enlil walked with her towards the opening of the pit.
She was a goddess. Long dark hair, her skin faintly glowing.
Aerilyn shifted under his gaze, “Are you okay?”
Clearing his throat, Rhys went back to the task at hand. Snowfall, snowball fight. He kept repeating to himself over and over again. Snowfall, snowball fight. He watched as Eirwen gently put a claw out, and Aerilyn moved towards them. She laid the fabric on the claw, allowing the dragoness to look it over. “It's hand-made,” Rhys began explaining. “Each diamond and crystal is stitched one by one. It reminded us of snowfall, of you.” Rhys paused as Enlil huffed, and two dragons began to exchange looks and noises.
Rhys moved to Aerilyn as they watched the two have their discussion. “She's beautiful,” the High Lord observed. “I understand now why so many of her kind were hunting for their scales.” Aerilyn hummed. The sad noise hitting Rhysand square in his chest. “She is safe her-” he paused a brow, raising as Enlil gently put his head to Eirwen, the two drakes both shutting their eyes. “They're-”
“Mates,” Aerilyn finished. “That's why she will never have another rider. He wouldn't let a fae or human near her.” She paused head cocking To the side and eyes going white. “They will consider allowing Velaris more snowfall this year. He appreciates your efforts.”
She came back to him seconds later after a small smile. “I believe today is Achlys turn to play. Is it not?”
Rhys had already begun moving towards the large male dragon. “It is. What do they eat, by the way?”
Aerilyn just smirked, fingers mindlessly lacing into Rhysand's as he pulled her towards the glistening scales and starlit cove Achlys had made for himself. “Whatever they want.”
The table was quiet as Rhys read the report Azriel had given him over and over again.
Aerilyn had felt the flash of anger coming down the bond and was giving him the simple comfort of her hand in his. She was ignoring the occasional squeeze. The soft grip and release was almost rhythmic following his eyes as he read the same paragraph over and over.
“We can't delay it,” Azriel’s voice was soft and cold. “If the rumors are true, and they appear to be, we need to be there when she arrives.”
Cassian almost growled. “There's no damn reason for her to be going there, and going without approaching the High Lord or General of the army is an insult.”
Rhys nodded, turning to Aerilyn, “Will you be okay here, alone, for a few days?”
Aerilyn made a face, eyes wide. “Mor and Amren?”
“Will be coming with. If you would like to go to Windhaven, that is fine. I just figured-”
Cassian interrupted, voice hard and cold. “We are not taking my baby sister to Windhaven. We just saved her from those woods. We aren't dragging her back there because Amarantha can not follow court protocols.”
Aerilyn watched as Mor and Amren came in, taking their seats. Mor tossed a letter to Rhysand. It had a seal Aerilyn knew from her travels and a soft sprawling writing that indicated it was from a female. “Oh, I can already tell you know who that's from,” Mor's tone was far from the playful manner Aerilyn had grown used to. Her face showed no sign of amusement as she poured herself a heavy glass of wine. “She's up to something. She has to be.”
Amren nodded, taking the seat next to Azriel. “We should probably discuss this without certain ears here.”
Aerilyn felt the gaze shift to her. She stood, taking her wine, and left the room, allowing hushed whispers to restart. She had no clue who Amarantha was, no clue why she was here or why the Inner Circle was worried about her, but she knew one thing.
That string that connected her to Rhysand had gone cold.
Whatever Amarantha was, whatever she was here to do, is what Rhys was trying to protect her from.
And all knowing they were keeping this from Aerilyn did was cause her to feel both left out and very, very angry.
She entered her room, shutting the door softly and locking it. Walking out to the balcony, she whistled and waited.
The seal was from Hybern.
This Amarantha was heading to Illyria.
Aerilyn had spent years hiding in the Illyrian woods, unseen, untouched, unknown other than to small children who would whisper legends of a ghost haunting the trees. It would not be hard for her to find an out of place Hybern female in the Steppes.
Enlil hovered at the balcony, getting as close as he could, and Aerilyn jumped. “Home,” she patted him softly. “Take me home.”
It had taken much longer than Rhysand had hoped for the Inner Circle to reach a plan on what to do when Amarantha arrived.
The Hybern general had planned on visiting Illyria first, hoping to meet with the camp leaders alone, then coming to the Moonstone Palace and the Court of Nightmares.
No matter how loudly Cassian protested, how much anger he put into his debate, the decision had been unanimous:
Aerilyn would come to the camps and to the Palace.
They all agreed, the young female needed to know who they were dealing with, what she looked like, and be able to make her own plan of attack and safety for herself and her drakes with that information.
Rhys knocked on her door. “Aerilyn Darling, can I come in?”
Silence.
Dead silence.
He knocked again, “Ari, I know you're upset. Let me explain,” he opened the door, hoping to force her to listen.
Only the room was empty and dark.
Her scent barely lingered, meaning she hadn't been in there for a while. Panic hit him quickly when he saw the open balcony door. He took a few quick breaths, hoping she had just gone on a quick flight and would return home.
He went back downstairs, holding eye contact with Azriel, who had put on his leathers and weapons. “Aerilyn-”
“Is back in Illyria. She just got back to the cave we found her at. I've had shadows watching in case this happened. I'm going now.”
Rhys shook his head. “I'll go,” he moved to the doorway. “The plan stays the same. Be in Illyria tomorrow. Amren will stay and handle the court.”
Azriel and Cassian nodded.
“I'll take her to Mom's cabin,” the statement was directed to Cassian. “She will be safe.”
Rhys winnowed directly to the cave, finding Aerilyn sitting on the ground, her mount long gone. “Darling, why did you leave?” Her eyes went to him wide with shock as she poked the fire she had made with a stick. He motioned around the cave where shadows were dancing and very alive. “Azriel had his shadows watching in case you ran.”
She glared at the shadow that approached and touched her nose before running back to its sibling. “Tell your dad he's a fucking busy body.”
Rhys sat across from her, taking in the cave where a single thrown together bed sat. It had a single fur blanket on top of fabrics laid on the rocks for cushion and no pillow. It reminded him of a war tent. Ready to be moved and sacrificed at just the right time. “No wonder you had trouble sleeping in your bed for a week,” he continued looking around, his heart shattering as he realized the conditions his mate survived under. “What did you do for food?” He almost didn't want to know the answer, avoiding her eye as she sighed and stretched.
“Stole from the Camps in the dead of night or hunt and gather,” her voice was distant. “Did someone follow you?”
Rhys rose a brow, looking towards where Aerilyn was. “No, darling. I came alone.”
She shook her head, eyes staying locked on the entrance before grabbing a throwing knife that was next to her. “No, dearest, you didn't.” Aerilyn moved, blocking Rhys as the snap of a bow was heard.
She flinched as she was hit, blinking slowly to process what was happening. An arrow had embedded itself into her right shoulder, and Rhys instantly reached for her, winnowing her to his mother's cabin right as another hit her in the leg.
Aerilyn felt like her skin was on fire, ash and faebane beginning to seep into her bloodstream as she laid panting. Wherever Rhys had taken her was warm and felt safe. She used the last of her magic to push that down the bond to Enlil, begging him to remain in the dragon pit.
Rhys scrambled, calling for Azriel and Cassian as he gathered supplies to heal his mate. He could feel her drift off in the bond, her body falling into a deep state of sleep as he began removing the arrows. To his shock, they weren't Illyrian. He shook the gut feeling, pushing it down as far as he could while he held a cloth to the bleeding wound.
Azriel appeared with Cassian seconds later. “What the fuck happened?”
Rhys shook his head. Focusing on his mate. “I was followed. She figured it out before I did somehow. She blocked me.” The last part had Rhys knitting his brow, confusion setting down deep as he pulled the second arrow out, trying to instantly erase the sounds of her pain from his mind.
Azriel took the arrow, looking it over. “I'll go look into it.”
Cassian kneeled down next to his sister, stroking her sweat soaked hair back. “I'm coming with you.” He took a heavy breath, eyes locked on Aerilyn's unconscious form. “You better ask your questions quickly when we find them, Az. Because I'm going to kill them.”
Rhys didn't even respond. Aerilyn's shields had dropped completely. She was unknowingly sending everything down the bond to him. Her confusion, her fear, her pain. All of it began to lace together with her thoughts.
Thoughts that soon were turning into a dream.
A dream that had Rhysand promising to himself he would make it come true.
He would just have to bring himself to be the one to break their current never-ending cycle of tension, and Rhys never had an issue being the one to make the first move.

GM author :)
Sometimes you post songs on chapters and sometimes you don't, are there playlists or songs for characters you can share?
Good morning! I actually do have extensive playlists for almost every character and pairing. While they are not currently public, I could certainly share them out if that was of interest?
To be honest I have no idea how to format this without makign it heinous to look at so I gave it my best shot. There are some songs on chapters. Whenever there is a song over a chapter that quite literally means that's the song that inspired the chapter. I didn't include those ones on the list below but they are some of my favorite!
For now here are some of the top songs I listen to when writing:
Charlie Be Quiet! (Charlie Puth) Rhys specifically after UtM
Fairly Local (Twenty One Pilots) Rhys i imagine this is him closer to the events of ACOTAR
everything everywhere always Rhys with Lilah, this song is what she means to him, and who she is to him
Heavy Shit (Blake Rose) Rhys
Mirror (Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars) Rhys
sex money feelings die - slowed version Rhys/Cassian/Azriel
Freak Like That (Austin George) Rhys you cannot tell me otherwise
neverletyougo (Role Model) Rhys it just gives Rhys

Enchanted (Taylor Swift) Lilah my girl from chapter 3 onwards
Wildflower (5SOS) Rhys/Lilah more specifically Lilah seeing Rhys in the Court of Nightmares
Slower (Tate McRae) Rhys/Lilah

🕯️Hail the Black Flame and the Healing Light🕯️
Call me Rhys. I'm transmale, axandrox, autistic, alterthing and in my mid 20s. My pronouns are he/hir/his/hirself (hir pronounced like "here"). Aries ☀️ ~ Virgo 🌕 ~ Taurus⬆️
I'm an agnostic polytheist who's been studying different paths on and off for a few years now, trying to figure out my beliefs. To me, though there's no way to prove the existence of the gods, if they do exist I think they deserve honor and recognition for their presence in our lives. I was raised in a non-religious household so worship doesn't come naturally to me; unfortunately, I've done a lot more studying than practicing due to this, for fear of doing something "wrong" or half-assed. So despite my previous research, I consider myself a beginner.
I'm devoted to Lucifer and Apollon but wish to honor others in the Hellenic, Old Englisc (Anglo-Saxon) and Norse Heathen pantheons as well, so my posts will be varied. Overall my approach to worship will be more syncretic than eclectic once I get a feel for different ritual styles between practices, but until I'm more experienced things might be a little all over the place.
Wish me luck!

Rhys' tight hold on Aries makes him feel a warmth deep in his chest, something that fills every space between his ribs. It seems so surreal; so long pining after his man and now here he is, where he belongs in his arms.
The question, though, doesn't surprise him. Rhys likes to have an answer to everything. "How long do you consider a long time?" Aries asks in return. "I can't even tell you when it started. It just... Became this thing I lived with, day after day." The smile he gives is slow and sweet, eyes on Rhys' as he speaks. "But you know what I told you. I knew how you felt before you did. I mean, I've always liked boys, I know it's new to you. But it just - it felt right. Knowing this was gonna happen."
Tumblr media
"You always make something good." He couldn't help it; as soon as Aries' lips met his, all thoughts of Nora and dinners and everything else, really, immediately fled his mind. All he knew was Aries, the softness of his kiss and the warmth of his body so close.
Rhys hands tightened just a bit on Aries' waist, just to keep him close, just to make sure he didn't move away as he processed what he said. "How long—I know you don't want me blaming myself for taking a while to figure this out. But.... how long have you known? How long have you wanted this? Me?"
