Coordinated medical mission efforts of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, Ana Stahl Clinic, Clinic Good Hope, and AMOR Projects to save the life of a 15-year-old girl. Enjoy the story below.

15 year old Ruth Noemi lives with her parents in Peru’s eastern jungle city of Pucallpa.  Work has been in very short supply for them, making it hard to supply for their daily needs.  Their poverty prevented them from seeking medical care when Ruth became sick. As time passed though, her parents became more and more alarmed as they saw that Ruth was not responding to their simple home care.  Not knowing what to do to help her, the parents cried out to God for help.  Shortly after this a neighbor happened to come by and, when she discovered how sick Ruth was, she told the parents about a free mobile clinic that was being held that day.  A combination of hope and desperation fueled the parent’s hearts as they hurried to take Ruth to where the clinic was being held. 

Upon arrival, they discovered a very long line of people, waiting patiently in the suffocating heat.  They took their place in the line, but the triage staff,  after discovering that Ruth was feeling nauseated, weak, and very faint, moved her to the front of the line so that she was seen right away.  Based on her history and exam it was recommended that she get an ultrasound.  Thanks to previous donations, AMOR Projects had a portable ultrasound on site and a volunteer radiologist was able to scan her right away.  Alarmingly, he found that she had more than 500 ml of fluid inside her pelvis, very suspicious for internal bleeding.   Needing more tests to determine the cause of the bleeding, it was recommended that she be taken to the Regional Hospital of Pucallpa for more definitive testing.

Not having transportation, GYC Peru/AMOR Projects staff was called upon to help.  Very kindly Albert came to their aid and transported her tenderly and promptly to the hospital, where, with more complete testing, she was diagnosed with hemorrhagic dengue.   This is a very serious disease, transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito—which are ubiquitous in this region-- and which, if not treated, can cause shock, circulatory collapse, and death.

Hospital staff sprang into action, disaster was averted, and the road to full recovery was begun.  Ruth’s parents realize that they almost lost their daughter, but, once death had been robbed of its victim, a new problem emerged—medical bills.  Once again, AMOR Project USA donors came to the rescue, and, thanks to you, all of Ruth’s medication, lab tests, food and transportation was covered, bringing huge relief to her family.  

Ruth’s parents realize that without the support they received from AMOR Projects, Ruth would very likely have died.  They asked us to convey their deepest thanks to donors for their generosity, which came to them at their time of greatest need.  Ruth continues to recover and gain strength at home, where her family is receiving ongoing support from AMOR Projects.

I love the difference between dog and cat rescue stories. Dog owners will be like oh I prepped for months and applied and had a home check then did a foster to adopt trial period and then the rescue chose me!

And cat owners are like... I found him in the trash.

(2023). Happy Birthday, Mauri! Mauri is a very sociable rescued lioness. Unfortunately, Mauri has some major issues due to a very poorly performed declaw surgery, causing her to limp. She is on our pain management program and is closely watched by our staff. Declawing is a horrible thing to do to big cats and creates a lifetime of complications. Despite this, she is still very playful and loves playing with toys. She is very vocal and will talk with the team often, in addition to chiming in with the other lions during their daily caroling.

Rescue Story: As a member of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and a founding member of the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance (BCSA), Turpentine Creek is often called in by Government Organizations to handle high-profile cases. In September of 2020, Turpentine Creek rescued four tigers and four lions from Tim Stark’s Wildlife In Need, a cub-petting scheme operating as a pseudo-sanctuary.

A federal judge ordered the animals to be removed from the Indiana facility due to Stark’s inhumane declawing practices and his practice of prematurely removing cubs from their mothers. The haphazard rescue involved missing and abandoned animals, as well as an angry and on-the-run Tim Stark.

We required assistance from the U.S. Marshals, who had to sweep the property before we were even allowed to enter and stood guard throughout the rescue. All the cats were immediately treated for health issues; they were arthritic from being declawed, invested with intestinal parasites, and had other individual health concerns.

Thumblina is 11 years old today ‼️ Thumblina was born the same day our other Maltese, Princess died. Buddy, our Caviler King Charles Spaniel, wasn't handling the loss well. My Aunt called asking if we were interested in rescuing a Maltese puppy in need of a home. A pet store had dropped off a few puppies that had gotten a skin infection in transport at a vet office and didn't want them back. We agreed to go see her, but weren't sure we were ready for another dog. Once we saw her, we knew she was meant to be ours 💓💞💖 She needed us 💖 She was so tiny‼️She didn't know how to bark yet‼️She just squeaked like a squeaky toy‼️They told us she'd never been on grass before‼️My mom was sure Princess had sent her to us💖💞💓😍 This is a picture of when she was first brought home at 16 weeks, which is 4 months. She was barely 2 pounds‼️Our other Maltese, Princess, barely grew after 4 months. Mom and I were worried Thumblina wouldn't get bigger either. Thankfully, she did. She is 7 pounds now 💖 Buddy was so gentle with her ❤️ Buddy passed away a while ago, but Thumblina is ok with being an only dog. So at this point we were still calling her Abby which is the name she knew for her whole life. I did not plan to change it since she knew it. Once I seen everything this poor dog has gone thru I said she is getting a new name. The name she had is going to stay in the past just like what happen to her. That's when I told my son start thinking of names. He came up with Clare and it was perfect. She now is named Clare Bear. So she has her ears cropped and I was cleaning her ears. I got the nasty smell and realized yep that is totally yeast. So we get those ears checked and it was a yeast infection. Clare was looked at and then I was looked at and told," these are ears that were not professionally cropped. This was done with a straight blade and if you look close here and here you can see the person hesitated plus her ears are not even one is shorter then the other." At this time I lost my shit I was crying and cussing left and right. It took everything out of me not to call this person and go off. But I know street justice will get him. So since my younger son is 1 I have some shirts I no longer fit in as i was 190lbs and not 125lbs anymore. I have a cricut machine and I went to making Clare shirts to hold her nipples up. So I was using my old shirts then decorating them and using zip ties to make them tight enough to hold her nipples up. She loved wearing clothes when we left the house because well lets me honest since she spent 4 years in a cage I took her everywhere with me. If it wasn't dog friendly then we did not go. I ended up texting the breeder asking when her last litter was since the vet said it wasnt long ago. The last litter was 2 months before I got her so it all made sense.
