If you don’t like “spirit animal”
Some people feel uncomfortable using “spirit animal” so I offer you a replacement: fylgje
It means “companion” and they are protective spirits of individuals or families in Norse mythology. They’re usually animals or mythological creatures who occasionally take the shape of women. Other people might see a person’s fylgje while the person sleeps.
The animal is symbolic of the person they protect, so a big strong guy or a protective mother might have a bear, and a clever person a fox and so on.
Fylgje and Companion Animal isn’t as catchy as Spirit Animal but it’s an option. The only thing you have to do to be respectful of Norse culture is to never ever make your fylgje a horse. Horses are sacred to the gods. Besides that, have fun.
