Superhero September: Renee Montoya

For the ninthteen day of Superhero September and for National Hispanic Heritage Month, here is Renee Montoya from Batman with special guest Carmelita Fox.

Dept. Renee Montoya enter Police Commissioner Jim Gordon office where the old police commissioner said to her, "Good to see you, Dept. Montoya. We got a special agent from Interpool whose warm us about a wanted thief. This is Inspector Carmelita Fox." and a Hispanic woman with long wavy black hair and wearing a dark blue tube top, a dark yellow leather jacket, golden-yellow gloves, tight-fitting dark blue leggings held by a reddish-brown belt, and dark brown combat boots, which taken Renee by surprise over Inspector Fox choice of clothes. Carmelita then said to Renee, "Nice to meet you, Dept. Montoya. I need help from a trusted member of this city police. I has tracked down a infamous theif to Gotham City, and I need to know the laydown of the city to when that theif will strike."

As they drive in the car, Renee ask Carmelita, "What inspire a woman like you to become a police officer?" and Carmelita reply, "I grew up in the poor part of Paris when criminals would prey on the innocents like me and my mama, whose was forced to allow men to use her body for dirty things just so we can make a living, but there were police officers whose help out in whatever way they can. I was inspired by them to become a police officer and I soon join the police force once I become a woman. By the time I joined Interpool, some of my male coworkers didn't think I would success such there was few female officers in the law and I do have a habit of rushing after criminals without thinking of a plan." Renee ask, "Was that how your thief managed to escape from you?" and she can see Carmelita was anger by that question.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023, USA)

Writers: Michael Lesslie & Michael Arndt (based on the novel by Suzanne Collins)

Mini-review:

I can't believe I waited so long to watch this one, considering The Hunger Games was such a big part of my life and I loved this prequel book. And after finally watching it, I'm so happy with the result. It does a great job as an adaptation, although some of Corilanus' complexity gets lost in translation without the book's internal narration. But most importantly, it's a pretty damn good movie in its own right. It sends a strong message that feels as important as ever in our current political and social landscape, and it does that without ever getting boring. It certainly helps that all the members of this incredible cast give striking performances. On top of that, the soundtrack is entirely unforgettable, with Rachel Zegler serving some serious vocals, as expected. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes proves this franchise has enough fuel to keep going for a long time, and I'm already excited to read/watch the next prequel.
