Eddie stumbles from his tangled bedsheets to go take his nightly pissâalarm clock beaming its 4:03 AM display directly onto his sleep-wrecked retinas and etching it there for what will possibly be all of eternityâbecause being past the age of thirty is all fun and games.Â
Bare feet padding quietly as an exhausted still half-asleep one hundred and seventy-five pounds not far off six-foot guy can manage, he's just about to pass the living room when he hears... something. Â
He stops. Holds his breath. Listens.Â
Buck is mumbling, talking in his sleep.
âAnd, man, I (something something) you. Because you always listen to me; never make me feel bad for (something something), always make me feel like I'm worth sticking around for, and I (something something) for that, Eddie.â
Buck is dreaming. Buck is dreaming about Eddie. Buck is dreaming about Eddie making Buck feel wanted.Â
Eddie smilesâand before realising what he's doing he is in his living room, leaning over his couch, leaning over Buck, and pressing a soft kiss to Buck's birthmark as if he's done this a thousand times before.Â
Buck wakes, blinks, smiles sleepily back at Eddie, cute as a bug, and is then craning his neck to peck his own soft kiss to the small mole underneath Eddie's left eye.Â
With the speed of a gunshot or a lightning strike, Eddie suddenly doesn't know why the hell Buck is sleeping on his couch instead of in his bed, or why the hell he hasn't had the guts to tell Buck that he is so, so in love with himâespecially after Buck split with Tommy a few weeks back and started testing the water with Eddie when Eddie grew a moustache and styled his hair a little differently and suggested they go to that gay club down on Burbank together to drink stupid amazing pink cocktails and dance the night away as if they didn't have a care in the world)âand then just as fast, he's thinking fuck it, and la vida es demasiado corta, deciding to remedy the latter (with the hope it might remedy the former) by saying, âIt's ass o'clock in the morning, Buck, and I really fucking love you.âÂ
Eddie's best friend is at once wide a-fucking-wake, eyes the size of abuelaâs best Talavera dinner plates, mouth doing a pretty great impression of a guppy as he gawps up at Eddie.Â
There's a concerningly long moment of silence, before Buck says, âOh.âÂ
Like a champ, Eddie chooses to ignore the way his heart plummets as it tries to relocate somewhere deep in his gut, because he's had to get pretty damn good at that, what with everything that has happened in his loco life. So he just smiles again, a little dimmer, a little more tight-lipped, while nodding his head and rolling his eyes in a yeah, silly olâme, huh? sort of way, and is about to push himself upright with the hand gripping the top of the couch so that he can drag his sorry ass back to his bedroom and get a tension headache from not allowing himself to cry and getting zero sleep for what will probably be the rest his life andâÂ
That's when Buck reaches out, a big hand grabbing at Eddie's waist.Â
Eddie's gaze tears itself away from those beautiful Talavera eyes that are shining brightly in the thick darkness of his sleeping house, settling where Buck's hand is holding him in place, where the contact blazes; not like fire but like the ever-burning candle flame that's lived behind Eddie's ribcage for the past seven or so years.
âEds, IâmâI wasn't, like, awake enough to, uh, to, to, to process that? And the thing isââÂ
âHey, no, Buck, it's okay, you don't need to explain.â Eddie's heart is falling, falling, falling, right to the very soles of his feet. âI shouldn't have just blurted that out at you, without any preambleâ
âEddie.â
ââand I definitely shouldn't have bothered you while your wereââ Â
âEddie."Â
ââsleeping, I justâ
âEddie, will you shut up!â Â
Eddie's teeth clack as he dutifully swallows the rest of his rambling.Â
âCan you please just listen to me for a sec?â Buck pleads. Â
âIâyeah, Buck, sure. I'm sorry, âcourse. Sorry.â
Buck takes a breath. âYou don't gotta be sorry, Eds, I was just trying to say: The thing is, I have said a lot of dumb things in my lifeâlike a lotâbut me saying âohâ to you telling me that you love me? Yeah, no, that has to top the bill. Dumbest fucking thing that's ever left these lips.â Eddie can't help it when his gaze flickers to the pretty culprits; it's an involuntary action by this point. âBecause,â and Buck is now licking at themâtongue wet and lush against plush redâbefore he's honest to Dios batting those beautiful blonde eyelashes of his in Eddie's helpless direction, then breathing his next words right into Eddie's mouth as he leans up, pulling Eddie into him at the same time and fanning the flame in Eddie's chest by saying, âI really fucking love you too, Eds.â Â
And then he's kissing Eddie againâonly this time he's pressing his lips into Eddie's lips, and Eddie is right there with him, kissing Buck back as if they've done this a thousand times before.Â
When Buck has to pull away, presumably to prevent a crick in his neckâEddie cannot fathom even half of another good reason to stopâEddie goes to follow him down, so eager after so long, wanting to cover the entirety of Buck's body with the entirety of his own. But Buck shakes his head and says says, âNo, wait, Eddie.â Â
Before Eddie's heart can start digging its way down through the carpet and floorboards and foundations and dirt to some place that resembles an old forgotten underground well, Buck is asking, âCan I come to bed with you?â Â
Then Eddie gets whiplash from having to will his heart from beating right out of his chest with just how much happiness is bursting its way in there; with Buck bursting in with all of his love and sharing it with Eddie, just like everything else in their lives. Â
Eddie feels his cheeks flush when he says, âThat's, uhâhonestly, Buck? You'd kinda be making my favourite recurring dream come true, if you did.â
âWell, you shot my recurring dream down in flames, Eds, by not listening to me for what must be the very first time in seven literal years and talking right over my heartfelt love confessionâeven if I did end up stealing your line,â Buck smiles. Then he frowns and tuts dramatically.âYou're a monster, Eddie Diaz,â he adds, teasing. Â
Eddie pays back Buck's grin with added interest, because it's as infectious and unstoppable as the common cold.
âFirstly, you had just answered 'oh' when I told you that I loved you, and secondly, does this monster not get a pass seeing as we just got off a clusterfuck of a twenty-four and it's ass o'clock in the morning and I'd assumed you were trying to let me down gently?âÂ
âAbsolutely not, Firefighter Diaz. One should never assume when it comes to a Buckley.â He follows the statement with a pointed look. âBut I might think about letting you make it up to me,â and he's now grinning again, and this time it's a sort of sheepish, hopeful thing, âif you agree to being the teaspoon to my tablespoon in your big, comfortable bed. What do you say?â He bats those blonde lashes again, as if Eddie would need convincing.Â
âI say yes sir, Firefighter Buckley,â Eddie agrees instantly, obviously, bending down to scoop a surprised Buck up and over his shoulder and into a very appropriate Evacuation Lift, Buck kind of squealing hilariously when Eddie sets off for his bedroom at what is a pretty impressive pace, if you were to ask Eddie.Â
And after they've sunk their bodies beneath the tangled bedsheets at ass o'clock in the morning (4.12 AM to be precise), and as Buck wraps the entirety of his long self around the entirety of Eddie, in Eddie's bedâtheir bed, now, Eddie's hopingâEddie breathes in a full breath for the first time all summer, allowing himself to love and be loved. Â
His next big breath is a couple of weeks later, when Christopher comes home and rolls his eyes at Eddie and Buck after they tell him they're together, merely giving them a slightly obnoxious finally! in that patented teenage tone before heading to his room to set up his gaming station and settle back in, like he'd never even been away. Â
Oh, and in case anyone were to wonder, Eddie would have to admit that he really, really loves being the little spoonâalmost as much as he and Buck love each other.Â

a prompt: thick-as-thieves (and handsy) mates, johnny and reader.
When aches and pains strike, turn to giving each other remedial massages - far more efficient than a foam roller, and a useful skill to have since there's no room to pack one on a mission anyway.
And somehow, these sessions always conveniently take place in a common area. In front of ghost.
And the sighs and moans and vocal exclamations of relief and thanks? Just being grateful buddies - surely not trying to troll and get a rise out of him (while gaz tries to hold back his laughter).
Or perhaps ghost gets desperate - he's got muscles locked up tight and heâs getting desperate for relief, so finds himself asking for help. Obviously they only too happy to help - and surely if heâs going to need to strip they're more than happy to relocate to personal quarters.
A/N 1: ooooh this was a challenging ask! I do not have the confidence to properly write for Soap yet, but I tried and I hope you like it <3  I donât know if you wanted this to be so horny, but I feel like, you, Miya, know the vibe of this blog by now, so I like to believe you knew what you were getting into.  Â
A/N 2 (the real A/N): I know you requested this a millennium ago, and I am SO sorry itâs so late but in my defence, I am truly and unconditionally a piece of shit.  18+ only MDNI
Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3 || Part 4
At least your involvement in all of it starts innocently enough. Johnnyâs groans and whines and wincing every time he bends over or stands or sits or breathes tug at your heartstringsâyou hate seeing your happy, horny puppy of a friend constantly in pain. So you offer to work his joints for him, work on some of that tension in his back, in his shoulders, offer some sort of comfort.Â
What you donât know is that, while his pain is genuine, itâs also a ploy. Â
Your relationship with Johnny isâŚstrange but it works. You fuck each other on occasion, because you realise the need for a healthy outlet for stress relief (you tell yourself that the orgasms are a bonus!). You leave it at that and you donât try to search for meaning and deeper feelings where none exist. You do love each other, but youâre friends first and foremost, thatâs the rule.
Besides, you know who Soap really wants. Everyone on base knows who Soap really wants, except, it seems, the object of his desire. And by the time you figure out that youâre being used as a tool in the ploy, itâs too lateâŚand you find that you donât actually mind the means, when you finally figure out Johnny wants as the result. Itâs the same thing youâve wanted for so long, but been too shy to ever say aloud. So you play along. Â
And so when you give Johnny your âremedial massagesâ, you donât question him on why they need to be at the ass-crack of dawn in the gym. The preferred time for the Lieutenant to use the gym, in fact, the only time he does. You donât question why, somehow, Ghost is always around when youâre twisting and contorting Soapâs muscles to aid him stretching, why the groans that leave Soap sound surprisingly like the ones he makes when heâs inside you, why winding up Ghost seems to have made your sex life with Soap infinitely better.      Â
But youâre in on the joke now. And far be it from you not to appreciate a well thought-out strategic manoeuvre. Â
And you are succeeding because you do wind Ghost upâthat much is clear. You see his body tense, fists clenching at his sides, while he watches the two of you with narrowed eyes.  Itâs almost Machiavellian, you realise, Johnnyâs plan.Â
If you keep following his cues and try to decipher the real meaning behind the shallow words he says, it almost certainly leads you to exactly where you need to be. Helping him stretch his legs, with your hands dancing over his thighs, his eyes wide and attentive and glossy with his arousal. Rubbing his shoulders with your breasts pressed tight against his back and his low groans in sync with the knots you work in the muscles. It all just works. All with Ghost as your witness.
Until Ghost decides heâs had enough. Â
Until a series of events that starts with Gaz rolling his eyes at your latest iteration of the melodramaâSoap working on your back for a change, drawing low, breathy moans from you as you relish in the feeling of his warm, hard palms on your lower backâand ends with Ghost watching the two of you in rapt attention.Â
Itâs electrifying, the feeling of Ghostâs eyes on your body. Â You can almost feel it, the way Simonâs gaze moves between your bodies, his eyes tracing the grace of Johnnyâs movement, always belied by the sheer bulk of him, but always present, always drawing attention to nimble fingers and a surprisingly agile frame.
Itâs the same series of events that leads you to where you are now. Watching them, with your hand busy in between your legs. Â
You have strict instructions not to. Your Lieutenant warned you, Johnny made you promise not to touch yourself until they could touch you.
But itâs not your willingness to blindly follow instructions that got you this far.Â
Besides, your Lieutenantâs too busy getting his dick sucked. And JohnnyâŚwell Johnnyâs got his mouth too full to protest.   Â

Slightly more uncommon question I guess, so if you don't know how to answer it, feel free to just skip over it:
How much do you think is known about tieflings medically? I headcanon that most other races don't care about them, so while humans and elves and so on can all go to the same doctors and medics, tieflings have a much tougher time. Only tieflings will help tieflings, except for maybe some very minor stuff.
Not just because the others don't want to, but perhaps because nobody ever studied them or even thought they were worth studying. So all tieflings just know better than to ask a regular doctor for any help with horn or tail issues. Chances are, they'd just make it worse anyway.
Ooo I love getting to think about the implications of this sort of stuff, while this definitely isn't in the same vein as my usual requests I'm so into this and it deserves a bit of discussion I think
Medically, I feel like tieflings have a lot of traits that absolutely set them apart from all other races in Faerun. Between the horns, tails, eyes with black sceleras, vestigial wings, the bumps and ridges covering their bodies, and the fact I headcanon them to have heats and ruts, they just have a lot going on medically. Humans and elves definitely seem like they'd be the front runners in medicine and study, but I feel like they'd also disregard races like tieflings, dwarfs, and halflings and leave them all to their own devices.
Tieflings would absolutely have to try and find tiefling doctors to help with issues, though between the Elturel tieflings being exiled and there not being any tieflings of major standing I can think of in Baldurs Gate, I feel like finding a tiefling with that sort of education would be very hard with the current state of things. Any tief doctors would need to conduct their own research and experiments too, as any institutions that teach medicine wouldn't have knowledge on the treatment of tieflings.
Due to all this, and where most tieflings seem to stand socio-economically within Faerun, I feel like there's a big emphasis and importance of home remedies and treatments from clerics. Home remedies would often be shared between families and passed onto children so tieflings have a common knowledge for how to treat 'tiefling matters' like mending a cracked horn or dealing with a sprained tail. These remedies get changed and improved over time depending on effectiveness and where the tieflings might relocate to, some herbs and medicinal plants might be harder or impossible to find when tieflings shift across the sword coast.
Clerics, and to a lesser extent paladins and bards, would also hold importance in tiefling culture. Magic users aren't incredibly common but they are more common than a tiefling doctor, and most magic users know a healing spell or two. Being able to bypass some of the issues of their anatomies mystery by casting a healing spell is hugely important and much more accessible as a form of treatment.
I feel like even if a human or elf doctor could treat a tieflings broken ankle, there's such a huge distrust on the part of the tieflings (for very good reason) that they'd still try to treat issues themself instead. And honestly, most humans and elves unfortunately don't particularly care whether tieflings come to them or not. There are oddballs though, and you'll find the occasional human or elven doctor that does work to try and study tiefling anatomy, often you'll find they also end up with a tiefling for a lover.
I'd love to hear if anyone has anything extra they'd like to add, I always get some really great responses to headcanons like this about tiefling culture!

Things were going from good to bad in the blink of an eye. You'd been given a job offer you couldn't possibly refuseâone that paid better than the job you were currently atâbut you'd need to relocate for it. And Noah was going to absolutely rage at knowing you'd be moving away from him. The two of you had been inseparable for the past ten years now, one always moving with the other.
You felt a slight panic as soon as you'd gotten off the phone with the hiring manager. Even though you knew you should take it, there was still one thing holding you back: Noah. The feelings you had for him had only grown with each passing day over the last decade, but how long were you supposed to follow him? At some point, you rationalized, you'd need to grow up and start thinking for yourself. If nothing had happened with you two in the last ten years, nothing was bound to at this point.
Still, there was that niggling feeling in the back of your mind that remained hoping something would eventually spark. Which is was part of the reason why your anxiety was slowly reaching its limit. That, and because Noah was always close by for anything. It would be like losing part of yourself with the move.
You needed a ride to work? He was there within ten minutes to take you.
Your garbage disposal stopped working? He fixed it for you the same day.
You were having an off day? Noah was sure to bring over your favorite snacks and watch your favorite movies to help perk you up.
No matter what the circumstance was, Noah was always there by your side. And it wasn't like the relationship was one-sided. You'd had your fair share of helping him, too.
He lost his voice from tour? You were there with home remedies to help him.
He had writer's block? You'd tell him crazy stories to help spark his inspiration again.
He wanted to walk around the neighborhood at 2am to think? You'd drive over to walk with him so he wasn't alone.
So your panic wasn't all for nothing. Whatever Noah did, you did too and vice versa. Just like him and Nick, you and znoah were your own package deal. At least until you moved.
If you moved, because you hadn't given an official answer yet. You knew that as soon as you told Noah, you'd gauge his reaction and let that make your decision for you. It was stupid to leave it up to someone else like that, let alone just with their reaction, but leaving him was just a huge as taking this job. Your breathing started to become shallow just thinking about it.
Looking to the time, you noticed you were five minutes late in leaving for dinner. Jolly wanted everyone to get dinner together at least once a month when they were home, and here you were trying to slow your breathing down. Honestly, you didn't know how you were going to school most of your expressions tonight, but you'd die trying if it meant you wouldn't cause a scene.
"No, I have to pull the Band-Aid off," you reasoned, knowing if you kept it to yourself any longer, it would only cause chaos. Besides, you told the hiring manager you'd call them with your answer by the end of the week and it was already Tuesday.
The boys were already prepping the grill by the time you showed up, earning an astonished glance from Folio.
"You're normally here before us, and we live here," he said with a chuckle, but your stomach was in knots. The drummer wasn't wrong in saying that, which only hurt you more. Even he knew how close you and Noah were; everyone knew.
"Y/N, are you feeling okay?" Nick asked gently, eyes searching yours to see if you were sick or anything.
"Mhm, yea. It's just been a weird day." You offered up a lame excuse, breathing in slowly to reign in your emotions.
"Do you need to talk about it?" Noah appeared from behind you, offering up a shooter glass that likely had whiskey in it to sip. Looking from the glass now in your hand to Noah, you had to make a quick decision. He was giving you a reason to tell him about this afternoon and all you had to do was take it. He was your best friend, he would understand, right? His eyes were filled with controlled concern, but you knew he wouldn't pester you if you weren't ready.
"Actually, yea. Can we really quick?" The words tumbled out of your mouth like vomit, Noah nodding and telling the guys you'd be back before the food was done. He led you to his room, shutting the door before sitting down at his desk. You had his full attention, and all you had to do was speak. Your nerves were starting to shoot through you painfully, the glass coming up to your mouth to drink the couple fingers of whiskey down completely.
"Woah, Y/N. What's going on?" This was a bad idea, you thought. You couldn't do this. What made you think you could do this? The whiskey burned through to your stomach, only making you feel more ill. "Hey, talk to me." Your eyes landed on Noah's again, the warmth of his tone bringing you back to reality.
"I umâhave something to tell you. It's good, so there's no reason to freak out or anything." You finally said, but you know it was only half the truth.
"Okay, so why does it look like you're freaking out?" He laughed uneasily, clearly questioning why you seemed so rigid. Leave it to him to try and keep the atmosphere light.
"I got a job offer today and I'm thinking about taking it." You set the empty glass down on the nightstand so you could clasp your hands together. The nervousness was radiating off you in waves which was only sending weird signals to him.
"That's great news! Was it the one you were telling me about the other week? The oneâ"
"Yea, that one." You cut him off, even though he was genuinely so happy for you. Your heart was starting to crack little by little watching his pearly smile light up the room you were about to dampen. "They called me this afternoon, and I told them I'd give them an answer by the end of the week."
Now he seemed confused, his brows downturning and head cocking to the side. "You didn't tell them yes? Y/N, you've been waiting for something like that! Jump on it!"
Swallowing, you looked around his room. You remembered helping him move in when they got the place. Over time, he'd only added more and more to the white walls that used to be so blank. There was even a picture of the two of you celebrating your twenty-first birthday back home in Virginia. Just a couple years later, he was moving to Los Angeles and you followed him without a second thought.
"It is what I've been waiting for, but there's a couple things I need to think about first before accepting it." The alcohol was starting to make things a bit easier to talk about, Noah seemingly not understanding your vague choice of words.
"So, what. They won't match the pay? You have to wait a while for the start date? Whatever it is, you shouldn't sit on it. Take it; you've worked so hard and deserve it." Heat was building in your eyes from the unshed tears. Noah was being so supportive just like always, and all you could feel was guilt. His words were true. You had worked hard, you did deserve this chance. Yet there was still the one thing holding you back. Your one reason.
Shaking your head, eyes glistening by now, you finally told him, "The job is in Portland. I'd need to be there no later than the first of the month to start." That was only a couple weeks away, and you knew if you did accept the offer, you'd need to leave sooner to look for apartments in the area.
There was a wide range of emotions crossing Noah's face, all of them as clear as the last before he closed his eyes and smiled. He looked up from where he sat, blinking his eyes a few times. "And that's keeping you from answering? Y/N, this is an amazing opportunity for you."
Your heart was falling, but for a different reason now. This wasn't one of the mental scenarios you had come up with when you were running through them earlier. "It is, but NoahâI'd need to move."
He nodded, "Yea, but Portland isn't so bad, right? It isn't the cleanest anymore, but neither is LA. And it isn't like that's far, right? Just a quick plane ride." He was trying to reason with himself through trying to reason with you. His tone was calm, collected, and that only made you feel worse. Was he sad at all that you'd be leaving? That you wouldn't just be a car ride away anymore?
Did he care?
That question surfaced, and try as you might to shake it away, it still sat there demanding attention. You had been so worried to tell him, and for what? What did you expect was going to happen? That he would retaliate and beg you not to go? Your eyes sat on his still calm demeanor wondering if your friendship meant as much to him as it did to you. Well, at least you got your other answer; he didn't seem to have any hidden feelings for you like you did for him, which probably hurt a bit more.
"Was this why you were acting so damn squirrely?" He shook his head with humor, "let's get you another drink."
Instead of moving to follow him, you stood there mortified. Your stomach was churning, your nerves past their limits and all you wanted to do was curl up and hide from the world. Of course, Noah wasn't going to stop you from doing something you wanted. Of course, he'd support you. Of course, he'd want what he feels is best for you. The sir around you felt thick and heavy, as if it was beginning to weigh in you.
"I thinkâI think I'm gonna head home. I'm actually not feeling very well." It was hard to speak when you trying to hold back your tears.
"Can I get you anything?" His concern was back tenfold, his body standing in his doorframe. You hadn't even realized he'd opened the door.
Beg me to stay, you wanted to yell. But you shook your head, "No, my stomach is just kind of hurting. Guess I shouldn't have downed the whiskey." You laughed, but it was clearly fake. There was a panic attack rising and you just needed to go home to sort it all out. You moved past Noah, who was clearly still processing your answer, and made your way down the stairs to the front door.
"You're leaving already?" Jolly asked from the kitchen. It looked like they were done grilling, both Folio and Nick peering from around the corner to get a better look.
"I told you she didn't look well," Nick commented as Noah was walking down the last few steps toward you.
"Are you okay?" Jolly finally asked through the tension.
Smiling through the unshed tears, you nodded, "Yea, apparently I'm moving," you started to say, "I got offered a job and I'm moving to Portland."
"Y/N, what's wrong?" Noah's hands griped your arms gently, but his question felt like it was too loaded to answer. If you didn't leave now, you'd regret anything you'd have to say in an anxious rage. By now, the other three had stopped what they were doing to watch what was happening. You and Noah arguing let alone fighting in general wasn't something that happened often.
"I'm not feeling well, Noah. I'm heading home." Turning, you walked out the front door with your footfalls feeling heavier with each step you took.
As soon as you'd gotten home, you finally allowed your tears to fall. Looking around your apartment, you couldn't imagine trying to pack it up to move states. Least of all without your best friend. Your best friend who apparently didn't care if you left at all, the one who was only being supportive. He knew this job meant a lot to you, but what he wasn't aware of was how much more he meant to you. And you couldn't fault him for that. It wasn't like he could move with you like you did for him anyway. His job was here with the band. At some point, you knew you'd need to go your separate ways.
Your throat was burning as you groaned with anguish. How pitiful you felt by this turn of events. Honestly, you shouldn't have overthought this so damn hard. You ran out on dinner and away from Noah.
It had been a couple hours by the time you heard knocking on your door. The time was only nine at night, your phone long since been silenced so you could ease your mind and merely be. Maybe if you stayed in bed long enough, the person would assume you were either not home or asleep and just leave.
Another series of knocking had you getting out of bed. Throwing the door open, you saw Noah standing there in the clothes he had on earlier. His hair was in disarray and his eyes seemed red-rimmed like he'd been crying.
"You can't leave," he blurted out, his expression pleading with you.
"Why?" You moved so he could come in, closing the door behind him. "You said it yourself, I've been waiting for something like this. I'd be dumb not to." Your response was angrier than intended, but you weren't in the mental state to care right now.
"And that's true, and I know it's so fucking selfish of me, but you can't leave." His voice was rising, his eyes wild. This is what you wanted, so why were you fighting it so hard? He was telling you not to go, but somehow in your mind it was too late.
"You were so supportive of me earlier, so what changed?" You threw your hands up in anger.
"It doesn't matter as to why. What matters is none of us wants you to go!" He shouted back with the rising tension.
"It does matter!" You yelled back. "It fucking does, Noah! You can't just tell me to go and make it sound like it would be easy and then come over to tell me not to! So what the hell changed in the last two hoursâ"
"âbecause I fucking love you and can't stand the thought of you leaving me!" He screamed, veins popping out of his neck. You were speechless, utterly so as his eyes started to shine brighter in the dim lighting of your living room. "I can't stand the thought of you living so far away. And if it makes me the worst human on this planet to tell you to not take this job for my sake, then I guess I'm the fucking worst." You could hear the pain in his voice as his tone was starting to drop with emotion.
Your heart was pounding so hard you could hear the pulse in your ears. The tension was so thick around the two of you, it was amazing how you were still breathing. Noah said he loved you. It was something you'd only ever dreamed about saying to him but were so afraid of the outcome. Yet here he was laying it all out in front of you.
"You can't fucking go, Y/N. I know I've been so selfishâwhat with you moving here with me and always supporting meâbut I can't just let you leave. Not without me pouring my heart out, anyway. If you don't feel the same, then forget it. It'll be like it never happened and we'll make it all work out. I'll help you move and get you settledâ"
"Noah, shut up." You cut him off again, tears falling for a new reason now. How could you leave with hearing all of that? He remained quiet, watching you like he would truly let you leave if it was what you really wanted. But what you really wanted was right in front of you. "Why did it take us so long?" You began laughing, Noah's eyes widening at the change of tone.
"What?" He questioned seriously, unsure of what you were talking about.
"I told myself there was only one reason I'd stay, and it was if you asked me not to leave. When you didn't earlier, I gave up all hopes and that was that. I didn't think you'd ever tell me you loved me."
There was a blush running up the side of his neck as he grasped at what to say. "Listen, you don't need to make this decision purely because I told you not to go. This should be something you want."
"Noah, you don't get it." Now you were smiling, still sobbing here and there. "The one thing I've wanted for a while now is to hear you tell me you love me." Without a second thought you pulled him to you, your lips crashing against his like he was your lifeline. The astonishment seemed to pass quickly from Noah as he began kissing you back eagerly. His lips tasted of salt and rum; it was mildly addicting.
"Fuck, why did this take us so long?" He asked when he pulled away from you, forehead leaning against yours. "If you still want to go, I won't stop you. However, I'm not letting you leave without establishing whatever this is."
"Noah darling, I'm not leaving. Not just because you asked me not to, but because I can't stand the thought of leaving you behind."

ridiculous romcom idea:
mc is a guy whoâs really awkward with romantic partners. he wants a relationship but is a bit naive and has rose colored lenses etc etc. throughout high school, college, and his early adult life, every time heâs managed to have a crush or confess or even get a partner, they always end up leaving him. but itâs not just that they leave: itâs who they leave him for.
enter person b. playboy extraordinaire and always manages to steal mcâs partners or crushes and usually sleeps with them.
around late 20s, after another affair discovered with his partner sleeping with person b, mc has had ENOUGH and decides on a drunk night out with friends when he sees person b that heâs gonna confront them. they end up getting into a shouting match, a few fists are thrown, and they both end up in a jail cell over night or smthn.
afterwards, they end up driving home together once theyâre released on bail, mc apologizes for getting so heated and person b is like nah iâve been wondering if youâd ever punch my lights out for years now. in taking person b home, mc realizes they live literally down the hall from each other.
person b says heâll leave mc alone and they part. mc thinks thisâll be the start of his new life. they donât see each other for awhile, but mc finds it hard to get in the game, and after a heavy drinking night with friends, ends up stumbling back to his apartment and collapses on bâs doorstep. b hears the thud, opens the door and is like ?? and finds drunk ass mc. b had a person over but he interrupts his night to make sure mc gets home safe. back in mcâs apartment, mc ends up being a messy drunk and complains about how heâll never find anyone and love is a sham he should just whore himself out like b cuz at least he wonât be alone.
it ends with mc bursting into drunk hysterics and b awkwardly trying to comfort him. in comforting, one thing leads to another and they end up making out on his couchâthe person b was with before forgotten. mc has never Done much before so itâs a surprise when heâs the one who reaches for bâs junk and b finds it hard to resist until heâs like listen ur drunk and i donât want to do this if youâre gonna wake up and hate me again. kisses mcâs head and leavesâmc feels rejected again and cries himself to sleep on the couch.
the next day b comes by and checks on mc and asks if heâs doing ok. brings hang over remedies and asks him if he remembers last night. mc replies that he doesnât really remember, just remembers feeling sad. b is a bit tight lipped but doesnât enlighten mc on what happened.
in another twist of events mc ends up finding out that even though he feels like his life is shit bc he doesnât have love to complete the picture, bâs life has love and sex but is completely a mess. he keeps getting pushed out of his industry of choice and is struggling with rent. when mc finds out heâs like hey why donât we come to an agreement: i help you with your life and a job and you help me in romance.
so they start spending time together and helping each other so it goes from enemies to friends to the buried crush feelings that mc didnât realize he had come full force when b comes back from an interview saying he got the job. heâs so happy for him he could kiss him! but⌠why would he want to do that?
meanwhile, even though b has been doing a great job as wingman, mc finds that heâs just not really into the dates or purposefully sabotages them just to spend time with b. b ends up noticing but doesnât say anything immediately. things come to a head when bâs new job asks him to relocate to a different branch in a different city and mc encourages him to go. they have a get together at mcâs place and once friends leave mc (sober) ends up crying after b closes the door to his apartment. he realizes he doesnât want b to go but he doesnât want to be selfish. b hears him and comes back into the apartment but instead of mc drunkenly taking the lead, b is the one who calmly and gently comforts mc but also kisses him first. mc melts into it and they end up having passionate sex.
afterwards mc admits to b that heâs fallen in love with him and he doesnât want him to go and b says he knowsâthen reveals that heâs been in love with mc for a few years now. not the entire time theyâve known each other but for a Good Bit. mc asks him why he didnât tell him and b was like seriously you hated me and for good reason. i didnât deserve you and i still donât. but mc shuts that down and says that he prejudged him and knows how that if he took the time to get to know him instead of chasing what he thought he should want in life maybe they wouldâve at least been friends sooner.
determinedly they decide theyâll make it work.
long distance for awhile, mc has jealousy issues because heâs scared b will meet someone else or someone will throw themselves at him and mc canât stop them, but when b surprises mc by showing up a month early for (holiday) in person so they can spend it together mc realizes that b is actually like. their life.
and yeah relationship happy from there PFF

FREEHOLD, N.J. --Â It's back-to-school week in Freehold Township, New Jersey, but mold is forcing some elementary students to relocate.Â
District officials say mold was discovered in classrooms over the summer at Laura Donovan Elementary School. They say remediation work is being done seven days a week but won't be finished in time for the first day of school.
So students are being relocated to other elementary schools in the district to start the year.
Back to school changes for Laura Donovan families
The news left some parents scrambling for answers. Regina Lopez's daughter, Ariana Velazquez, is supposed to start fifth grade as a new student at Donovan Elementary. She says the relocation creates a hassle, as the 10-year-old tries to adapt to a new environment.Â
Lisa Tremarco usually walks her kids to school, but now they'll have to take the bus.Â
"I have two different kids in two different schools now, so I don't know how that's going to look," Tremarco said.Â
She added this is yet another disruption for kids who have been through a lot.Â
"My fifth grader had kindergarten COVID ruined, first grade ruined. And now she starts fifth grade like this," she said.
Freehold Township schools ready to make room
District officials say Freehold Township schools have dropped from a high of 4,500 students to only 3,400. So, they say, there is plenty of classroom space in other schools to accommodate students from Donovan Elementary.Â
"We're trying to be hopeful, trying to tell her it's an adventure, but I don't know," said Tremarco.Â
Officials say engineers were brought in to determine the cause of the mold, so it can be properly remediated.Â
The relocation is expected to last several months.Â

đ¸ ⸝ LUCIA HERNANDEZ-MARTINEZ
youâre not from around here , are you? i figured because you totally just missed LUCIA HERNANDEZ walking by. donât tell me you donât know who she is ? they kind of look like melissa barrera and i could be wrong but i think that they might be twenty-eight years old right now. theyâve been living in palmview for the last year. and i donât know if anyone has ever told them this before but they kind of remind me of kelly kapoor from the office. if you stick around the town long enough you might catch them in action working at the salty sailor bar as a bartender. you see this town isnât really that big of a place, some folks like to call them the airhead of palmview! they took a liking to the name too after a while, go figure. oh crap, they must have heard me yapping. theyâre coming this way. i got to warn you though, rumor has it they can pretty selfish at times. i wouldnât take it too seriously though, from the times iâve spoken to them they seemed pretty free-spirited to me. we see each other all the time since they live in that one bedroom apartment beside me over in sunny shores. i better leave you to it. it was nice meeting you! Â
hi, hola, bonjour ! this is my baby lucia, she's kind of a trainwreck. there are slight mentions of dv, drugs, and mental health issues below.
⥠ââ BASICS
full name: lucia hernandez-martinez
birthdate: february 21, 1996
age: twenty-eight
ethnicity: mexican
gender: cis woman ( she/her/hers )
orientation: pansexual
occupation: bartender at the salty sailor bar
languages spoken: spanish ( specifically mexican spanish ), english
positives: free-spirited, amiable, optimistic, affectionate
negatives: impulsive, flighty, selfish, ditzy, sensitive
likes: shopping, partying, dancing, spicy foods, working out, bubble baths, matcha lattes, the smell of fresh flowers, social media, homeopathic remedies, flan, skincare, edibles, and latin pop.
dislikes: thunderstorms, telenovelas, responsibilities, country music, cold weather, confrontation, close-minded people.
⥠ââ BACKGROUND
at the age of three, the hernandez-martinez family relocated from their little home in monterrey, mexico to the big city of los angeles, california. the family wasnât well-off by any means, living in a run-down apartment barely getting by. her mother, rosana, became the owner of mi vida bar which didnât earn them enough income as they hoped. her father, alejandro, picked up landscaping on top of helping out with the new family business.Â
lucia was the youngest of two. the most spoiled child and notably the favorite, which caused a rift in the relationship with her sister, valeria. her formative years were spent enrolled in dance recitals and beauty pageants. with her love of putting on a show, her mother always believed sheâd be a shining star. this slowly began the battle of basing her self-worth solely on her appearance.
tw dv;Â despite the toll these activities had on her mental health, she was grateful for the little moments she was able to escape from the chaos of her household. said chaos only halted when a neighbor from their apartment complex phoned the police during a heated brawl. her father was arrested at the scene and then kept after findings of multiple other criminal offenses. all contact was severed with her father after the incident. end of dv
dynamics soon changed in the hernandez-martinez residence. valeria later felt the need to take on the caretaker role, eventually picking up a job to help their mother with rent. however, lucia always lived in her own carefree little bubble, believing her social status meant more than lending a hand. in fact, her egocentric personality made her both loved and hated by many. she squeezed her way into the popular clique in high school. often, sheâd skip classes to smoke or shop with the money she had stolen from her mother. education wasnât her forte, made evident by her below-average grades. her mother began to instill the belief in lucia that sheâd never amount to anything. telling her that sheâd have to find a rich partner if she wanted to make it successful in life.
due to the girlâs nasty habit of stealing, her mother sent her on her way after graduation. somehow she was able to convince valeria to help her on her feet. in typical lucia fashion, she burned that bridge by racking up thousands in credit card debt under her sisterâs name. once again, sheâd been sent off to fend for herself, becoming somewhat of a drifter. sheâd connect with people only to use them for their money and a place to stay. sheâd bleed them dry, then rinse and repeat. lucia wasnât necessarily proud of her behavior, but sheâd pin the blame on her mother. she couldnât stomach being at fault for her own actions.
her last ex-boyfriend, juniper, caught wind of her schemes fairly early in their only three-month-long relationship. yet again, sheâd racked up thousands in credit card debt under someone elseâs name. after his findings, he threatened to sue her unless she paid him back in full. to avoid the consequences of her actions, she took what little money she had left and fled across the country to sunny shores, florida.
⥠ââ OTHER TIDBITS
believes herself to be an incredibly spiritual person. although she does not practice a certain religion, she has a belief in the universe and cosmic energies. typically, whenever she is undergoing a crisis, she prefers to find a local tarot card reader. if she feels her luck is particularly bad she reaches out to curanderos for spiritual cleansings.
prefers homeopathic remedies over western medicine. sheâs always carrying around homeopathic treatments in her bag, along with edibles.
very obsessed with the moon and the stars. in fact, she is the type of person to stop a conversation to have you gazing up at the sky.
due to her dancing background, she picked up a love for it over the years. her absolute favorite is salsa and she is guaranteed to invite anyone out for salsa dancing.
very obsessed with music, though she doesnât consider herself a singer, she has an amazing vocal range. she only ever shows off her pipes singing in the car or at karaoke nights if sheâs had a few drinks in her system.
most would consider her to be social media obsessed. she doesnât have a huge following, just a couple thousand spanning across every platform. she still will take the time to capture every moment for an aesthetically pleasing post on her feed.
her huge downfall is her spending habits. she finds an excuse to treat herself no matter the state of her bank account.
for a huge chunk of her life, she considered herself to an entrepreneur. often, sheâd throw herself head first into business endeavors that never took off. one being a skincare line titled âdiosaâ which was funded by an ex.
sheâs only worked one real job before making her move to florida. she was a bartender for almost two months at her motherâs bar. after showing up late numerous times or choosing not to show up to her shifts at all, she was promptly fired.
is super into fitness. she has a daily routine that consists of drinking a green juice, which is followed by her morning run. she also loves working out at the gym, even taking yoga classes whenever she can.
she is unsure of her stance on love. she loves the idea of committing to someone, but it also terrifies her. with no sense of who she truly is, she often morphs herself into whoever the person she's infatuated with wants her to be.
has and will steal your significant other just because she can. literally the embodiment of break up with your gf, i'm bored.
is the type to flirt for fun, not necessarily because she's attracted to the person. she's also extremely affectionate with those she cares for, referring to her friends with cute pet names.

Recently finished reading The Deluge by Stephen Markley, which is a book that's much more related to Neal Stephenson's Termination Shock and Kim Stanley Robinson's Ministry For The Future than it is related to Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota, but I'm going to make it about Terra Ignota anyways.
Common themes:
Internal migration and refugees, and postnational order
The end of trait-based identity
I'm picking on these two because they're handled so very differently. Sure, each book is about a different thing (climate change, war) and so that figures into each story's handling of those. But even then, there are nuances.
In Terra Ignota, when War and Famine caused people to flee locations in the 2120s, the big relocation companies were the self-driving flying-car companies, who swooped in to save their paying subscribers. The flying-car companies and the EU and the big conglomerates formed a new government system, with democratic representation for all. When the war was over, those who were left behind in the "Reservations" system stayed not because they had to, but because they wanted to. The new government system's surveillance and censorship apparatus was aimed at preventing another such war, and did so by excising gender and religion from public discourse.
Contrast this with The Deluge, in the 2030s, where the big relocation companies are faceless corporate monoliths running indentured-servitude human-trafficking schemes for the third-world poor. Their programs are run by algorithms and the stock market; they're not particularly responsive to human concerns. The rich get relocated via bespoke extraction teams to private compounds. The governments of the world farm security services out to private contractors, whose surveillance and censorship apparatus focuses on predicting terrorism. The rejection of sex, gender, race, religion, nationality, class, and so on happens not because of censorship or to escape The System, but instead almost as a "kids these days" footnote regarding radical self-liberation politics in a post-climate-crisis new world order.
They both address war, but Terra Ignota doesn't address global warming because global warming is a solved issue by the 2400s of its narration: global warming was an ecological issue less worth noting than already-remediated nuclear fallout from the 2100s. The primary global concerns in the 2400s are the cost of rent and the share of seats in the legislature. The Deluge talks about global warming because that's the primary present-day issue of its narration.

Isabella: Thank you all for being here, on time
Silence
Isabella: First of all, I want to apologise. On behalf of your parents, and grandparents. In spite of all our preaching and nagging, we let you down and we let this country down. I can see how you've all been affected, it's written on all your faces. Some more than others...
Isabella: What happened with Liliana was a mistake, and it will not happen again
Francine: So it's true then?
Jacqueline: All of it?
Isabella: What matter is that it will not happen again
Isabella: I'm sure you've seen that we've been working tirelessly to remedy the situation especially to the public. And with the help of the power-holding Duchies it's been going well. But what is to come next might not
Francine: I've seen that you and uncle Matt have been trying to fix things. But where are our parents in all of this?
Isabella: ...With the miscarriage, your mother has retreated to recuperate. And your father... is struggling. We're giving them time to heal right now
Juliette: So what's this next part?
Isabella: The decision has been made, and finalised, for a change in the order of succession
Isabella: First of all, Raphael will be included in the lince of succession, as he should have been from the moment he was born. However, he is now also the next Duke of Vitali. He no longer lives in Angiers palace and has relocated to the Vitali estate where he will receive successorship training from Lady Magdalena
Isabella: Secondly, as of last week, I have been appointed as heir to the Salician throne. This means that Juliette, instead of Jacqueline, will succeed the throne after me.
All: What?
Juliette: Mother-
Jacqueline: ...Aunt Bella
Isabella: As such, Maxime will be third-in-line until Juliette has children
Maxime (excited): Are you serious?
Francine: Hold on a minute Aunt Bella. How did this happen? What caused this?
Isabella: (sighs) It was not the scandal if that's what you're thinking. At least, not entirely. I hate to say this but your grand-mere has been planning this for a long time. Over the past few years, your mother has been neglecting her duties more and more
Matthew: It got to the point where we were doing most of it for her. The power-holding Duchies were fed up, and frankly so were we. And then all this happened and... well... she was no longer found worthy-
Isabella: -Capable
Matthew: -Of remaining the heir apparent.
Raphael: How was she when she found out?
Isabella: Shocked, devastates, as expected.
Matthew: Heartbroken... but she didn't fight it. I think she'd given up on the crown a long time ago. You should call her sometime, she'd want to hear from you.
Isabella: I'm sorry. I know this is a shock to you all. It's still a shock to me too, but the decision is final.
Isabella: All we can for now is adapt. But please, come and talk to me if you have any questions. Don't keep anything to yourself.
Silence
Isabella: I'll give you all some time to digest this... Juliette, please come with me
Matthew: And Maxi, with me please

Podcast reading w/ free PDF đ: The Color of Law~A Forgotten History of How the Government Segregated america By Richard Rothstein
The Color of Law~A Forgotten History of How Our Government:
Segregated America by Richard Rothstein Summary of book: In The Color of Law, historian Richard Rothstein notes that every single American city is segregated on racial lines and argues that this segregation is de jure rather than de facto: it is the deliberate product of âsystemic and forcefulâ government action, and so the government has a âconstitutional as well as a moral obligationâ to remedy it.
Planned and implemented by all levels of American government, residential racial segregation impoverishes and disempowers African Americans by confining them to ghettos and blocking them out of homeownership. And this segregation continues well into the 21st century. Since residential segregation pertains to where and how people live their lives, the issue is harder to undo than injustices like the deprivation of voting rights, public services, and equal legal protection to African Americans. To make matters worse, governments, financial institutions, and the real estate industry continue to actively segregate American cities, to African Americansâ disadvantage.
"In Chapter One, Rothstein illustrates the problem of de jure segregation with the representative story of Frank Stevenson, an African American man living in Richmond, California in the mid-20th century. A former manufacturing town, Richmond grew rapidly during World War II. To keep up with demand, the government built public housingâfor white people, it built a comfortable suburb called Rollingwood, but black working families were crowded into âpoorly constructedâ apartments in industrial neighborhoods, or even left to live on the street. Stevenson worked at a Ford Motor factory, which was soon relocated an hour away to Milpitas after the war. Stevenson was out of luck, because it was impossible for black people to live in Milpitas: Federal Housing Administration (FHA) funds were only allocated to all-white neighborhoods, so while housing options multiplied for white people in places like Milpitas, nobody built housing for African Americans. African Americans were thus confined to certain neighborhoods, and those neighborhoods consequently became entirely African American over time. The government subsequently withdrew services from those black neighborhoods, turning them into the âslum[s]â that they remain today."

Two PNW tribal nations sue oil companies over costs of climate change
https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/environment/two-pnw-tribal-nations-sue-oil-companies-over-costs-of-climate-change/
Major oil companies for decades deliberately sought to downplay and discredit scientific warnings about the central role of fossil fuels in causing climate change, alleges two lawsuits filed this week by the Makah and Shoalwater Bay tribes.
The lawsuits filed in King County Superior Court name ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Phillips 66 as defendants, and seek compensation for the millions of dollars already spent, and likely to be spent in the future, for the tribes to respond to climate-induced disasters such as extreme heat, drought, wildfire, shoreline erosion, sea level rise and flooding.
The lawsuits allege the companies have known fossil fuels would cause catastrophic climate change since at least 1959, but continued marketing massive quantities of oil and gas. They allege the oil companies tried to mislead the public by funding op-eds and advertisements in Seattle and national newspapers that claimed the science of climate change was uncertain or lacking evidence.
The complaints outline the companiesâ research and misleading marketing around their productsâ role in causing climate change and the sea level rise, extreme weather, public health harms and other climate effects on the tribes and their lands.
With both the Makah and Shoalwater Bay reservations on the Pacific Ocean, they are particularly vulnerable to sea level rise, the lawsuits state. Both tribes have already incurred the costs of moving their citizens to higher ground, and ocean acidification âat an alarming rateâ from burning fossil fuels has endangered the tribesâ coastal ecosystems and economy, according to the lawsuits.
âWe are seeing the effects of the climate crisis on our people, our land, and our resources. The costs and consequences to us are overwhelming,â said Makah Tribal Council Chair Timothy J. Greene, Sr. in a statement. âWe intend to hold these companies accountable for hiding the truth about climate change and the effects of burning fossil fuels. And we aim to force them to help pay for the high costs of surviving the catastrophe caused by the climate crisis.â
The lawsuits also cite a report by the Climate Impacts Group at the University of Washington that suggests with global warming of at least 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050, Washington is projected to experience a 67% increase in the number of days per year above 90 degrees, relative to 1976-2005, leading to an increased risk of heat-related illness and death, warmer streams and more frequent algal blooms.Â
The report also found warming would fuel a decrease of 38% in snowpack, relative to 1970-99, leading to reduced water storage, irrigation shortages, and winter and summer recreation losses, as well as increases in winter streamflow, decreases in summer streamflow, leading to reduced summer hydropower, conflicts over water resources and negative effects on salmon.Â
âThese oil companies knew their products were dangerous, yet they did nothing to mitigate those dangers or warn any of us about them, for decades,â said Shoalwater Bay Chair Charlene Nelson in a written statement. âNow we are facing hundreds of millions of dollars in costs to relocate our community to higher ground and protect our people, our property, and our heritage. These companies need to be held accountable for that.â
The tribes bring their claims under Washingtonâs Products Liability Act for failure to warn, misrepresentation and intentional concealment. The complaints request jury trials, and ask the court to order the companies to create a fund to be managed by the tribes to remediate and adapt reservation lands, natural resources and infrastructure to climate change.

favourite barry headcanons?? like whereâs his family from just like his life u know i have so many thoughts about this man
(as an afterthought, gonna preface this by saying everything is pre-Rafe, because I think their relationship would remedy a lot, especially in scenario 2)
I have two I sort of pinball between (one is waaaay happier lol) and I'm not sure which I prefer more so have both:
like a lot of the kids in the cut, Barry didn't have a great upbringing. His mother left and has never (to his knowledge) tried to reach out, leaving him to be raised by an abusive but usually absent father Barry left home earlier than the law would allow, crashed on friends couches or in storage facilities or really just anywhere he could sneak around without getting the cops called on him and dragged home. Of course his father never reported him missing, probably didn't notice. Barry spent his time by working odd jobs under the table, getting by easily in school despite rarely attending, searching for a safe place to hunker down for the night until he was old enough to enlist in the army. Those years were probably the least loneliest he'd ever had but also the saddest, watching all his buddies go home for the holidays while Barry had no one, no home, nothing waiting for him. But he did make some life-long friends who still keep in touch after he's left Barry used his savings to buy the cheapest property he could find in the OBX, which so happened to conveniently have the camper & trailer already there. of course that wasn't his plan, he wanted to build some little house eventually, just big enough but the trailer will do for now the former island dealer was relocating, an old high school friend of Barry's who offered to let him take over his clients while the man looked for a job Barry's good with his hands, so besides drug dealing he also does some freelance work, working on bikes and vehicles and building sheds and doing yard maintenance, just trying to get by and save what he can
If he doesn't stay busy the weight of being alone crushes him and he has to resort to drinking or snorting or smoking something to forget for a little while
Barry's dad still lives on the island in the same house, doing the same things. They pass eachother often and have sat a couple bar stools down from one another but they haven't talked since Barry ran away all those years ago, and either his father is still pissed or just doesn't remember he even has a son.
Barry is pretty convinced he'll die young, probably in conflict over drugs or money, he gets in enough fights to back up that theory
And he'll have nothing to show for it. No family portrait on the wall with the love of his life on his arm, no soft memories of vacations or holidays, no mark left on anyone. All he did was work and try to survive for a life he really wasn't happy living
He's insecure about his body, wearing clothes that are too big on him, torso scarred up from his father's mistreatment and the hard life that followed
He doesn't feel like he deserves good things because he has very little to give
OR
Barry grew up in a very loving family, with doting parents who encouraged him to be strong-willed and kind to everybody, but not take any shit.
His mom taught him how to cook and bake, it was something they did together almost every night. She would let Barry pick something from their family recipe book, passed down through generations
Even though he was always ahead academically, Barry got in trouble at school all the time for starting fights (he was defending other kids who couldn't do it themselves)
He realised his family struggled a lot and not just in comparison to kooks, so he started mowing lawns and washing cars and chopping wood to scrounge up whatever he could go help
That mentality never left him and he was always working, usually more than one job and fixing up their modest house in his spare time
He wanted his parents to be proud of him (they would be no matter what), to do something with his life and he knew they wouldn't be able to afford college & fighting with the kooks for scholarships was out of the question, so he joined the army.
When life wasn't affordable in the Outer Banks Barry's parents moved, but when he thought of home all he could picture was the rundown bookstore on the corner by their old house and the beautiful beach covered in solo cups after a summer party, so when Barry left the army that's where he went
The trailer was listed for sale on the paper menu of a local diner, Barry's first stop once he made it down to the cut and was able to talk the owner down a little, using up almost all of his savings
The majority of Barry's family live south of the border and he hasn't been able to visit since he was really little. When he makes the drive to visit his parents, the three plan a trip they know they'll never be able to afford but it puts a smile on each of their faces
Barrys family sends him handmade gifts every year for every holiday; sweaters knitted and paintings from his little cousins and packages of spices
Everytime he's on a call it turns into a big thing, one minute he's trying to tell his auntie happy birthday and the next every cousin and family friend is fighting to be in frame, asking him about work and his house and when he's going to settle down and get married
Driving by his childhood home makes him unbelievably sad, wanting nothing more than to work his ass off until he can make an offer on it and fix it up
Barrys lucky to work at the garage where he's appreciated, lucky to have supportive parents and a big family to reach out to when he's lonely, and a small group of good friends
But he often feels lonely once he's home and struggles to figure out where his life is going

thoughts on punishment/reintegration procedures for FPEs?
*pulls out a notebook and pen and stares at you*
>:3 I like your evil question here is my evil answer
⢠Reintergration Procedure & Reeducation
I believe that Reintergration/Reeducation incrementally ramps up according to the amount OR extremity of laws broken. This is what I think the stages of it would look like.
⢠Minor Infractions
- Failing or refusing daily/assigned tasks
- Unsanctioned or otherwise unapproved actions such as not complying with Dema industry law
- Not showing appropriate reverence and respect to one's Bishop
- Speaking out of turn or asking """dangerous""" questions
- Attempting to escape, however being caught, snitched on or otherwise failing.
- Fewer than #5 prior FPEs.
[PUNISHMENT: Individuals who transgress in this way will be sent to Mandatory Reeducation Processing at one of the Inner Sanctum Compounds. They will remain there until the Bishops believe they are suitably ameliorated.
Here is where they will be subsequenrly marked for any FPE attempts.
They are disallowed from speaking to anyone from the outside world during this time, and will be placed in individual cells to be Processed. As they slowly are allowed to reintegrate, they are allowed to leave their room and speak to others within the compound during mealtimes or classes... But once again they will have eyes constantly on them, so nothing within the realm of defiance.
If the subjects do not comply with their re-education, they may be forced to experience more extreme corrective measures... (bzzt)]
⢠Moderate Infractions
- Spreading dissent among the populace, using contraband or illegal texts and subject matter
- Violent or belligerent behaviour towards the Dema Thought Leaders or Upper Elite
- Discovery of Bandito contraband, paraphernalia, sympathies or, even worse, assistance to the cause (such as smuggling resources out of the city).
- Greater than #5 prior FPE attempts
[PUNISHMENT: These individuals are notated as flight risks, and potential if not known Bandito dissidents.
Initially, they are sent to reconditioning, however if this does not work or repeated attempts have failed, they will be relocated to the Inner Compound.
Within this inner compound, the sky is darkened by the omnipresent looming shadow of the towers above. Rarely, if ever, do people see such a megalithic structure so close. For those within the compound, it is a constant overbearing reminder.
Inmates will be highly medicated, usually with substances that are intended to "calm" them down, make them more vulnerable to suggestion, or even a cocktail of medications that essentially leave them comatose if they are seen as a high enough risk.
These inmates also experience an even more prolonged duration of isolation before they are allowed to reintergrate with others, and even then, the days are often long and quiet, with individuals simply stuck in a room with other will-broken individuals.
If they are taken ourside, their time is spent in a concrete yard beneath the shadow of the towers. It's impossible not to look at them, and many times, the catatonic inmate's simply stand in assorted groups, faces turned to it like sunflowers.
They march, in and out of their compound, quietly attending their re-education classes, seeing Cognitive Specialists that gaslight and demean them into silence, or various "Remedial Treatments" such as Electroshock, regular Smearing Rituals or a confession-type experience with a High Priest, Priestess or Pastor of Vialism wherein they are encouraged to submit themselves over to it once again. Some are even encouraged to prove their devotion with their blood.
Many times, individuals simply disappear from these places with no indication of what has happened to them, or where they went. It's seemingly random, and even individuals who appear to be improving may, simply, one day exist no more.
Certain successful individuals may see the light of the world again, should their Bishop see significant improvement, and these individuals are touted as success stories of the system, then shoved back into society with their lives heavily regulated; It will forever be a blemish on their indentification card, and they will struggle to find anyone who will hire them in their assigned field. Often they will be outsourced to other districts for low wage jobs... Though some find kind individuals, who offer them places despite their status.]
⢠Major Infractions
- This category includes known, high profile Banditos who have caused significant damage to the reputation or physical wellbeing of Dema's Elite.
- Significant disruption of Dema's internal ecosystem, or conspiracy to rebel.
- Consecutive failures in all areas of assignments, causing damage to society.
- Illicit behaviour, coordinating escape for Banditos or citizens within Dema, and otherwise assisting the Banditos in any significant, continuous form.
- Greater than #10 FPE attempts.
[PUNISHMENT: All previous punishments will be subject to sentencing, however, these individuals are identified as being highly treatcherous. Many times, these individuals will be subject to the highest form of re-education; They will have their identities stripped from them, and be subject to extreme mental, physical and emotional "Treatments" that leave their bodies fried, contorted or otherwise broken down into nothing; All as a form of repentance, of course, as those who reject Vialism are simply lost and require suffering to truly draw out their faith.
Once they have completed treatment, they are sent to the Bishops themselves who will personally give one final "appeal" to them; Beg for them to reconsider their ways, and repent. The Bishops are "kind" after all.
Should this appeal, fail, however...
The only way one can truly redeem themselves, once they are beyond saving, is to be Vialed.
Many resist, all are silenced.
Sometimes, quiet is violent.]
#twenty one pilots#mine#letters#thank you for ur patience this one was really fun to write lol :3#demaposting
