Seamus is the 17th regimental mascot of the Irish Guards and was acquired from his breeder in North Yorkshire in October 2020.

He spent four weeks with his new handler, Drummer Adam Walsh, from Dublin, at the Defence Animal Training Centre at Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, before officially joining the regiment. 

As part of his training, he was familiarised with military music and the Regimental Band of the Irish Guards.

Seamus lives alongside the guardsmen and attends recruiting events and ceremonial occasions.

13 MAY 2024 || ARMY AIR CORPS : HANDING OVER CEREMONY

King Charles officially handed over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to The Prince of Wales following his appointment in the role at the Army Aviation Centre in Stockbridge.

The King was met by The Prince of Wales at the Middle Wallop Control Tower where the official handover took place in front of an Apache helicopter. The father-son duo then spent time with the serving aircrew, following which the King departed.

The Prince of Wales then embarked on his first engagement with the AAC as their Colonel-in-Chief. He first received a briefing on the regiment's current work from the Colonel Commandant and viewed the training and operational aircraft used.

William then met the aircrew & the supporting groundstaff, and spoke to soldiers across a range of roles within the regiment who are involved in supporting operations.

Finally, The Prince of Wales took to the skies departing the base in an Apache helicopter.

By the national average, Lilja is a rather short woman who stands at around 166 cm tall. She is slim and athletic, with messy blonde hair, freckles scattered across her cheeks and nose, and eyes with partial heterochromia on both irises that are both blue and brown in color, which are easily distinguishable between the two. She is the one who usually wears heavy, long clothes that are uncomfortable when it comes to grabbing objects and that hide her body well. She wears glasses because she is astigmatic, which she removes to use contact lenses when she has to work in the field. more facts about her aspect: -Lilja has a lot of bite wounds on her body, done of course by the dogs she worked in the past with most of them being reactive ones that easily snapped when something even small bothered them. Lilja is a reserved woman by nature, she doesn't like to talk to people too much and generally prefers to be alone. Sometimes she seems detached and lost in her thoughts, it almost seems like her brain is constantly working, constantly creating new thoughts. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as she always has new ideas that she can implement in the form of robotic objects useful to her team. She seems to prefer small speeches to long, deep ones, which is often not in good taste with other operators and those in command, but she often ignore the thoughts of others. This doesn't mean she's a totally insensitive person, she just doesn't know how to relate to people without seeming weird, which leads her to avoid social situations most of the time.

This is a translation I did for fun as I was curious to know what this scene from the game was about. As I couldn't find any translation I decided to share the one I did. There are probably mistranslations as I don't speak Japanese, but, once again, this was just for fun. I accept any corrections

April 16th 1746 saw the Battle of Culloden.

Much has been said about the site of the battle and the Prince has been criticised for “choosing” the moor.

Three sites were scouted in the 48 hours leading up to the battle, they knew Cumberland’s army was coming, their had been skirmishes in the week or so before this day, things were coming to a head.

The first site as at Dalcross Castle, which John Sullivan, the Irish adjutant and quartermaster general, rejected, because the distance across the ravine would have been too small to protect the Jacobite army from British musket fire from the other side.

The second was on the south side of the Nairn, chosen by Lord George Murray. This was poor ground, did not protect the road to Inverness and was vulnerable to British mortar fire from the other side of the river. It is clear that this site was a prelude to retreat and the dissolution of the army, because it was not an effective battle site.

The third site was about 1km east of where the battle was eventually fought, and John Sullivan drew up the army there on 15 April. It was on higher and less boggy ground than the final battlefield, and both wings of the army could see each other, which they could not in the next day’s sleet and rain. No one ‘chose’ the site of the battle on Drummossie Moor as a preference: it was the line closest to headquarters at Culloden House which could defend the road to Inverness.

Many of those soldiers who were asleep after the failed night attack on the 15th had retreated to the grounds of Culloden House, and there was little time to form them up as the British Army approached on the morning of the battle.

Some had urged the Prince to fall back into the hills and glens, split into units and launch a guerrilla campaign, historians can’t agree who ruled this out, some say Lord Murray, others Prince Charles, some a mixture of the two, no matter what it never happened, as we all know.

The battle began around before mid-day, the 9,000 well-rested Government troops advanced downwind across the Moor towards their exhausted opponents who faced directly into the north-east wind and its accompanying sleet. The Prince’s forces numbered about 6,000 and were in two lines. The left flank of the front line was held by the three regiments of MacDonalds, highly resentful that they were not in their traditional place of honour on the right, held by the Atholl Brigade.

In the centre were some of the best of the Jacobite infantry, veterans of the victories at Prestonpans and Falkirk: Lord Lovat’s Frasers, the MacLeans, Mackintoshes, McLachlans and Chisholms. Weak in artillery, the Jacobite frontline could see Cumberland’s gunners unlimbering and loading their batteries of cannon. Receiving no order to unleash the fearsome Highland charge, by far their best weapon, they must have known what was coming.

And come it did; Cumberland opened fire with roundshot across the unobstructed moorland. Behind his artillery, the Duke’s own front line consisted of six regular infantry battalions; the Royal Regiment on the right, opposite the MacDonalds, with Barrell’s Regiment on the left, facing the Athollmen. The second line contained six more infantry battalions, with yet three more in a third line alongside two squadrons of light cavalry. Out on his flanks were the feared heavy Dragoons: Cobham’s on the right, Kerr’s on the left. All was ready for the Jacobite charge.

Cumberland’s infantry had been given intensive training on how to deal with the onrushing Highlander, claymore in right hand, targe on his left. Having fired his Brown Bess musket, each man was to use his socketed bayonet to attack the opponent on his right front, trusting that his own comrade to his immediate left would do the same.

This was designed to avoid the parrying effect of the targe and inflict a disabling wound in the first shock of contact.

For a full half-hour the Government artillery thundered on unchallenged, roundshot and then grapeshot hammering into the Prince’s waiting battalions. Still no order to charge came as scores of men went down, thinning the ranks and producing frantic calls from officers and men to be released to the charge. Eventually they went off anyway.

The MacDonalds crashed in to Barrell’s Regiment, overrunning the front line before losing momentum and being shot and bayoneted by the upcoming second rank. Elsewhere the charge was even less successful; depleted by cannon fire and decimated by the rolling volleys of the infantry, Highland courage and dash proved no match for regular infantry discipline. The charge reeled backwards leaving up to a thousand dead in front of and among the Government positions.

Cumberland ordered a general advance and unleashed his cavalry. What had been a battle was now a rout. It had lasted an hour.

Jacobite casualties are estimated at 1,500 dead, with an unknown number of wounded and fugitives bayoneted and shot in the merciless pursuit that followed.Cumberland lost only 59 dead and 250 wounded, the only senior officer to die being Lord Robert Kerr, commander of grenadiers in Barrell’s Regiment and a son of the Marquess of Lothian.

It was over; the military neutralisation of the Highlands was about to begin.

The ease in which the Government troops surprised Cumberland, and he surprised further when the Jacobites did not regroup and force another battle, he certainly expected another, but none came, around 1000 gathered the following day at Ruthven ­Barracks, where a written order from Prince Charles told them to “seek their own safety” and disband. But, for many, surrendering was too dangerous an option.

As time went on, the risks of Jacobites handing themselves in became clear. The mood of the Ruthven meetings was downcast. Many fought on to avoid capture or because the risk of surrendering was high. In June, a number of Jacobites went into Fort William after the British government ­promised six weeks’ immunity. Captain Scott drowned them in a salmon net.

Jacobites engaged in low-level disruption, raiding and ­protection of vulnerable tenantry as well as recruitment to the Irish Brigade and probably Scottish regiments in French service, including Ecossais Royales.

Assassinations of unpopular ­government officers or sympathisers were also recorded. The British government still considered the Jacobite threat to be “major” at this time with around 12,000 to 13,000 soldiers deployed across the entire country – from Berwick and Stranraer to Elgin, Forres, Stonehaven, Inverbervie and Montrose – by the end of August 1746.

As government forces mobilised, significant units of armed Jacobites continued to appear in the field. At the end of April, 120 armed MacGregor men were recorded in Balqhuidder after marching home ‘colours flying and pipes playing’ with the Army unwilling to tackle or pursue Jacobite units that maintained discipline.

One battalion of Lochiel’s ­regiment was still operational in May – as were 500 men under ­Clanranald. Orkney remained under Jacobite control until late that month and, despite British attacks, four local Jacobite lairds remained successfully hidden

Clans made concerted attempts to resist Cumberland and his men with around a dozen chiefs meeting at Mortlaig in early May. At the meeting… they entered into a bond for their mutual defence and agreed never to lay down their arms, or make a general peace without the consent of the whole,” according to an 1832 account by James Browne.

“By the bond of association, the chiefs agreed…to raise on behalf of the prince and in defence of their country, as many able-bodied armed men as they could on their respective properties.”

Around 600 men gathered later that month across the north and west but the clans “ultimately did not have the time or morale to raise or retain enough men in the field.

Although a unified response failed to materialise, Jacobites remained active across Scotland. Jacobite expresses – the non-stop delivery of letters by horse – continued until August. A British regiment was deployed across Banffshire in the summer of 1746 with insurgents reported in Argyll that September.

Arms were surrendered in the Mearns right into the summer of 1748. British atrocities were carried out against innocent ­victims, but there were plenty of continuing Jacobite threats and remained so for some time, this led to the building of roads and bridges, to make it easier for troops to be deployed into the heart of the country, many still used to this day, these projects and the act of proscription meant the end of the old Highland way of life.

Many of us have made our pilgrimages to Culloden to pay our respects to those that died that day, and to the commemorations, both on the day, and at the one at midnight the night before, I hope you all take a moment and remember the brave men who fell that day and afterwards…………

The badge was meant to be a flaming ‘Excalibur’ - recalling the Lewes bomb that contained both plastic explosive and inflammable thermite with time pencils. I knew that, but most of us called the stylised badge a ‘winged dagger’ and it made a better title for a book than ‘Flaming Sword’ ‘Who Dares Wins’ etc. the sword looks more like a commando knife and was certainly not meant to be a ‘Sword of Damocles’.

The badge of the Special Air Service was created by Corporal Bob Tait in October 1941, who would survive the war and die in retirement in 1975.

Robert ‘Bob’ Duncan Tait was a founding member of ‘L Detachment’, later the SAS, and is credited with the design of the most coveted military badge in the world: the SAS winged dagger. Tait was part of 11 Commando before he was invited to join L Detachment under the direction of Col. Stirling while fighting in North Africa in World War Two.

He survived the regiment’s first disastrous operation: a parachute drop in support of the Operation Crusader offensive in Libya in November 1941. It proved to be an unmitigated disaster when 22 men out of 60 were either killed or captured by the Germans.

The second was far more successful and saw Bob Tait as one of five commandos who snuck into a German aerodrome deep behind enemy lines and laid explosives that destroyed 37 aircraft. The raid secured the future of the SAS as it convinced military chiefs a specially trained unit that could operate behind enemy lines was needed.

In between the raids, the members of the newly formed unit held an informal competition to design the insignia for the regiment. Tait’s design of King Arthur’s Excalibur sword - not a dagger as commonly thought - with light blue wings either side of it was voted the best by the rest of the men and is the cap badge still in use today.

The SAS insignia represents King Arthur’s flaming sword Excalibur - not the dagger as it came to seen as.  Indeed the name ‘the Winged Dagger’ appears to have first been published in a SHAEF communique of 1944 which was then quoted in the Sunday Times and Observer newspapers.

Having already been awarded a Military Cross and Bar with the 3rd Hussars, Roy Farran joined 2nd SAS in 1943. Although not serving with the Regiment when the insignia were developed, his book, ‘Winged Dagger’ was truly the first book to shed light on the SAS when it was published in 1948. The image of the ‘winged dagger’ stuck in the public consciousness.

Early examples were made up by Cairo tailors and many variants can be seen.

By March 1944, the 1st and 2nd SAS Regiments returned to the United Kingdom and joined a newly formed SAS Brigade, a component of 1st Airborne Corps, commanded by Lieutenant General Frederick ‘Boy’ Browning, with Brigadier Roderick McLeod in charge of the SAS.  Many more badges would be required, and it was essential that a standardised design was agreed upon - see top right.

In March 1951 the Malayan Scouts adopted the maroon beret and the badge of the Special Air Service and this was worn by the members of 21 SAS who formed the new B Squadron - see centre left. The instruction that brought the Malayan Scouts into the British Army Order of Battle as 22 SAS Regiment dates from 16th July 1952.

The central badge was worn by 21 SAS on the right arm when it was formed in 1947. At that stage they wore the Mars and Minerva cap badge of the Artists Rifles on their maroon berets which was of similar design. However, in 1956, these were swapped, and the design of the beret badge was published in that year (rather curiously on a crudely cut out backing)

The 1956 badge was worn throughout the 1960s - see bottom left. But this had become somewhat anaemic by the early 1980s. The current pattern is shown bottom right.

“The 25th Regiment of Foot in Minorca, 1771,” one of six similar pieces attributed to Giuseppe Chiesa.

The 25th Foot was a Scottish regiment that eventually came to be known as the King’s Own Scottish Borderers. It was stationed on the Mediterranean island of Menorca 1769 to 1775 – Menorca was considered a dull posting, with little opportunity for action or thorough training.

The immediate thing to note is the group of 4 officers standing off-centre. The 1768 Warrant established a new style of British uniform, one that would become familiar during the RevWar, but the realities of the 18th c. meant its adoption wasn’t instantaneous.

Period artwork between 1768 and 1775 shows a raft of adaptations and modifications made by different regiments in different parts of the globe as they adopted the new uniforms piece by piece. For example, 3 of the officers here have the “modern” cuff style while the one on the far right has an older pattern. Two of the four still wear their officer sashes over their shoulder in the older style – I suspect the two who are wearing them around their waist (as per the new Warrant) are doing so because as grenadier officers equipped with fusils, they are also wearing cartridge pouches and the required belt (interesting to note too that these belts seem to be of a matching, specific pattern). And while the two grenadiers have adopted bearskins instead of the older cloth (what we now call “mitre”) caps, they don’t yet have front plates.

Beyond the officers, its interesting to see a mixed group of enlisted men in full accoutrements – some grenadiers, some “hat” men, and also a sergeant with a halberd – all at rest. It doesn’t look like their bearskins have front plates either.

The final interesting point is the presence of white-coated soldiers across the stream. It’s been hypothesised these could be Russian troops from the fleet under Admiral Grigory Spiridonov, which stopped off at Menorca from late 1769 to mid-1770. I’m not enough of an expert on Russian uniforms to be able to back this up, but it does sound feasible, and is a fascinating little detail.

Warrant Officer Antoni Lucjan Markiewicz of RAF 302 Polish Fighter Squadron, and his bride Yvonne Munday, pictured after the building in which they were having their wedding reception was bombed by the Luftwaffe on 29th July 1944. Markiewicz was born on 13th January 1915 in Sandomierz, eastern Poland, and was 16 years old when he joined the Polish Air Force. He graduated as an aircraft mechanic and then completed pilot training at the Air Forces Officer Centre in Sadków. He trained as a fighter pilot in Grudziądz and joined No 122 Squadron of the 2nd Air Force Regiment in Kraków.

Markiewicz was the first pilot to shoot down a German aircraft in World War 2 - a Henschel 126 reconnaissance aircraft, at 6AM on 1st September 1939. The following day he destroyed a Junkers 87 Stuka dive-bomber, which crashed into the River Wisła after the pilot had bailed out. On 3rd September he attacked a Heinkel 111 bomber, forcing it to crash with a failed engine.

He later evacuated from his native Poland to France, and then to England, flying in the Battle of Britain.

In February 1941 Markiewicz suffered severe injuries after his plane crash-landed. He spent a year in hospital, after which he was declared unfit for further operational flying. He spent the rest of the war training pilots before taking a course in radio engineering.

After World War 2 Markiewicz settled in Surrey. He established himself as a radio and television engineer before pursuing a career in textiles. He maintained close links with Poland, making regular visits to see his many relatives and to introduce his wife and children to Polish culture.

He died on 30th April 2005.

When your hometown is small and young and its story isn't as exciting as that of the other cities - it takes a great pride in every event or famous people it was related with, no matter how big or small.

Main things regarding the Great Patriotic War my town is proud of:

1) Home front activities: as one of the mainly textile-oriented centres of Soviet Union, during the GPW it took on its shoulders the responsibility for producing military clothes and medical textile goods such as bandages, cotton wool and gauze; gave a shelter to the refuges and wounded soldiers;

2) Relation to the famous Normandie-Niemen regiment: in fact, my hometown was the first place of dislocation and training of Normandy's pilots and this is where they started their dangerous yet glorious journey. For now, there is a monument and a street named after them in my town. When i studied at school, it was a necessary topic during the country history or region history lessons.

3) People, such as artist Boris Ivanovich Prorokov (you can visit house museum with his works) and poet Mihail Alexandrovich Dudin (at least once in the year there are literature events in his honor at the schools, universities, libraries, etc.)

We've been getting quite some official pics of JK and Jm from their training period and it's just been a week. But there's been nothing from Tae and Joon's centre. I wonder why. Does their regiment not publish photos? I remember we had seen pics of Jin and hobi as well in cafeteria or training etc

To be honest, I’d rather not seeing anything, I saw pictures of Jungkook and Jimin with guns and it’s so weird, it’s so jarring, they shouldn’t be there, they shouldn’t be forced to do that. I’d rather they post things on their own volition, than seeing those random pictures that shouldn’t even be shared in the first place imo.

Last time, the group of trainers were taking a bus from Kaeraumu City to Gawlong City. Once they arrive, they split up to explore the city. Morris learns that there's Pokémon racing in the neighbouring Mandura City.

They soon learn from Jane Wattle (the Professor's daughter) that the Typos' conditions are worsening, She suspects that the Galactic Corporation might have something resembling a cure in their HQ in Mandura, which the group was going to anyway, to investigate Tech Industries. Stucko's regiment requests his service to the south, so the group must say goodbye, for now, but hopefully not forever.

After they train their Pokémon, Kendra suggests they visit Gawlong's Contest Hall. A presenter in the waiting room asks Kendra to join the upcoming Super Contest, and the others would be welcome too. Kendra enters their Popplio, and Darryl also enters with his new Wishiwashi.

Each Pokémon and their trainer got their turn in the spotlight, while the others would try to drag attention away. Kendra's Popplio got its turn early and captured the hearts of the audience and judges. A Joltik tried its best to fight for the spotlight, and a Flabebe continually sabotaged its rivals. Darryl's Wishiwashi could not keep up unfortunately, but Kendra and their Popplio stole the show. They were encouraged to compete again in future contests.

After the contest, they decide to catch a bus to Mandura City so they could start their investigations there in the morning. They get lodging at a fairly dinghy but affordable hotel and prep for an eventful next day. This big day starts with a car trip to the city centre, and the group of trainers decide to split up in order to cover more ground on the organizations they're concerned with.

Cole and Darryl decide to go to Galactic Corp. posing as a school boy researching a project, and their doting older brother. They managed to tag along with a School Excursion group, and were given a tour of the lower floors. There was some corporate spiel about the betterment of mankind, the PC storage system, and renewable energy, but nothing about the experimental healing pods that the party suspect caused the Typos.

Meanwhile, Morris and Kendra went to Tech Industries, posing as tech heads looking to invest. The two are given their own tour of this building's information floor, learning about a proposed alternate energy solution, involving harnessing the electricity of certain Pokemon, the widespread popularity of Rotom tech being an effective proof of concept. They also learn that Galactic Corp. does some R&D for Tech Industries, but most of their queries go unanswered.

The trainers regroup for lunch and share their findings. It is clear the answer to their questions is in the Galactic Corp. building, but Cole and Darryl were unable to find an easy way into the staff only areas. They begin to concoct a plan to make a decoy distraction; fake the incidence of a Typo, and draw out Galactic Corp. employees to investigate.

Ideally, with the building even a little emptier, they can find an opportunity to strike. Next session.

I'm currently writing my now week-late Trick or Treat answer for @athenswrites , and I wound up with something which reallu should've been a stand alone explainer as to 'what the fuck's going on in the Chainbreaker War'. I'm still keeping it, but it's good to have it also on its own to be seen.

UCAU would make landfall in Upepwani on the 4th of May, 75 A.S. The force was split in two, and so were its engineers and other supporting arms. Two out of al-Saqr's three regiments, the 21st and 22nd, disembarked at the provincial capital of Hurhamba to aid in the defence of the northern city, while the 23rd was stepped ashore at the more southwesterly mercantile centre of Alhisn to maintain a bridgehead in the rest of Upepwani's southern coastal plain. The latter would, indeed, keep control of the 256th Pioneers under the dynamic Colonel R.V. Bhola, one-time cavalryman and effectively the overall commander of UC forces in the region. The 21st and 22nd would, after much squabbling, acquire the 116th and 81st Pioneers respectively, but having never trained with their assigned but not 'parent' formations neither battalion was prepared to work in accordance with their needs. The two regiments were each led by Colonel Joachim Kohl and Brigadier Zhuang Guanting, with the more senior latter officer designated by al-Saqr as overall in command at 'the front' while the general concerned himself with concerns at the rear and playing diplomati with their local hosts and co-belligerents.
