I've been re-reading @anbu-legacy and decided to do some doodles while I go :)
This set is all from the "ANBU Trials" arc. There is one doodle per chapter, and some random ones thrown in there for fun. I wanted to add something that either made me laugh or thought would be fun to illustrate.
I would highly recommend reading Legacy if you are 18+! It is very good and the writers are amazing!

2037: Rosemary Winters, now 16, has lived a difficult life, kept in protective custody by the U.S. government, apparently having a distant relationship with her mother and suffering bullying while growing up for her nature as a Mold hybrid. Though Chris Redfield has tried to be there for her, his work keeps him busy, and she not only feels completely isolated, but hates what she is. She has been subject to testing by the government for most of her life, and apparently has some superhuman abilities, but wishes for a way to get rid of them. Conveniently, she is contacted by a friend from one of the labs she regularly has to visit, a researcher who informs her they have a piece of the Megamycete on site. Within the Megamycete, there is supposedly a special crystal that can rid her of her powers, if she is able to navigate the metaphysical realm within the Megamycete and find it. Rose succeeds in entering the so-called “Realm of Consciousness,” but finds herself in the dungeons of Castle Dimitrescu. There, numerous copies of her wander the halls, and are all killed by Mold rising up from the ground as she attempts to escape. Within the castle itself, she is confronted by a figure calling itself The Masked Duke, who sends an army of Mold creatures to kill her. As she attempts to search the castle for the crystal while avoiding them, she is contacted by a mysterious entity calling itself “Michael,” who writes on the walls in glowing letters to give her advice. He encourages her to use her powers to defend herself, and Rose discovers she is able to cause sections of Mold to calcify by concentrating on them. Though she is able to solve many of the castle’s puzzles, she is soon cornered by The Masked Duke’s monsters. Michael tells her he has found an “exit” for her, and she jumps off a cliff at his direction, falling into the water below. She wakes up outside the garden of House Beneviento, and is lured inside by the sight of a stuffed monkey she had as a toy when she was a baby. Inside the house, an unknown entity cuts her off from Michael, and she is forced to solve a number of puzzles relating to her childhood experiences of ostracization by her peers. Making her way through a nightmarish house of mannequins, when she finally thinks she has escaped, she is shrunk down to a few inches in size and forced to contend with even more killer dolls. Rose eventually ends up in a new location, which Michael informs her is the house her parents lived in when she was a baby. There, Michael walks her through the house, and she learns more about her father through some of the objects in the house. The moment of tranquility is cut short when the mysterious girl who had been taunting Rose as she made her way through House Beneviento reveals herself, admonishing Rose for being weak and claiming she is unloved, undeserving of her mother’s attention. Eveline, revealing herself, pulls her back into House Beneviento, and the two fight. Rose’s abilities prove to be no match for Eveline’s power, but at the last moment, Michael intervenes, saving Rose, though she is thrown out of the house, off a cliff, and into another layer of the Megamycete.
She finds herself in the grounds of the Village, and realizes that Michael is actually her father, Ethan Winters. She makes her way through the Village, encountering numerous duplicates of herself, which she follows to their source– the heart of the Megamycete, which is producing the duplicates. She learns that this is an experiment of Mother Miranda’s, who manifested in the Megamycete after her death and is attempting to recreate a version of Rose with all of her abilities to use as a vessel for her deceased daughter. She encounters Miranda herself soon after, who reveals that she lured Rose inside the Megamycete, using its quorum sensing abilities to cause her to hallucinate her friend. She had intended to abduct Rose after she removed her powers with the crystal, but Eveline interfered, derailing her plans. Soon, Ethan appears, now physically manifested, and helps Rose escape Miranda, leading her to the crystal. Though Rose worries about the outcome, she uses the crystal anyways. Miranda attacks her afterwards, believing her to be an easy target. Ethan attempts to protect her, but as Miranda attacks him, Rose decides to take her powers back to save him. Rose uses the abilities she discovered previously, and is even able to copy those Miranda exhibits as the fight progresses. Unfortunately, it seems she still won’t be able to overwhelm her, until an already-injured Ethan gives her his essence, allowing her to finally destroy Miranda’s consciousness. Ethan begins to dissolve, and Rose shares one last moment with him before he disappears, and she is brought back to the real world. Though several days passed within the Megamycete, it seems she was only gone from or unconscious in the real world for a few moments, as no-one has even noticed her presence. She leaves the lab and takes a bus to Ethan’s grave, where she speaks to him before being picked up by an agent of an unknown organization. The agent tells her she is “needed,” somewhat derisively referring to her as Eveline. Rose slams him against his vehicle, threatening to use her powers on him, and do “things even Chris doesn’t know [she] can do.” It’s not known what those things are exactly and I think she’s bullshitting. As Rose gets into the car, the agent tells a sniper to stand down, reminding him that she’s still just a kid. As they depart, their vehicle is approached by an unidentified figure, and they stop to talk to them. I’m straight up delulu telling you it’s Ethan, fucking somehow, because fuck Capcom, fuck ‘em to the highest degree. Fuck ‘em. The end. For now, anyways.
I tried to keep the yapping to a minimum, but by the time I got here I was fed up with Capcom's bullshit writing, sorry 😭 As of right now, we have no idea who the figure is or what is next for Rose, but yeah,,, that's all anyways folks thanks for sticking around

ppl will be explaining how a difference is a difference & not a Deviation from a Superior state, & people who are the ones considered Default Normal (superior) will be like "okay....to be polite....i Might say i consider Some aspects of Some people's existence mere 'difference' & not being less than me...." as like hey i'm a Benevolent god. i still actually get to consider you worse & don't have to "humor" anything that challenges my superiority. if you only want everything to fit into the norm then it will all come back to upholding the norm. thinking of people's analysis of their own realities as equally legimate as being like Obscure, Irrelevant, Superficial & then using that reasoning to justify dismissing them. same as worrying that the [Different Lessers (Others(tm))] as Everywhere = a manifestation of the awareness that, yeah, respecting them as equals Does threaten your norm which is smothering everything everywhere. ppl who need to lock in the idea of Borders around personhood like um Yes they're all delineated separate Identities outside any hierarchy & so i think it's relevant to for some reason push back against "ohh so now Everyone's queer" like why not. why couldn't they be. what if they were. what if queerness was everywhere b/c it's ideological not a cordoned off Alternative Identity that is accommodated by focusing on Love(tm) as the new border around whose existence we might begrudgingly accept at arm's length (i.e. being otherwise "normal"! just imagine swapping out the binary gender (or, deep breath, presumed Private Parts) of one partner in an exclusive romantic lifelong nuclear family marriage, & that is Gay / Trans Rights. still gross but maybe we can do it, as long as they don't talk about it or shove it in our faces or even exist for more than one encounter w/us in our lives b/c what are the odds). evergreen laughing at someone suggesting ableist logic might be embedded in language of past & present b/c it's just So little to ask for that it's irrelevant but it's also So much to ask for that of course i'm not gonna do anything more than pass it along like "this is why i don't take ableism seriously" like yeah it's the disabled randos like it's the individual cringe teens(tm) ruining [the cishets would take Gender seriously otherwise!!!] & that's why you won't think about it or do anything about it & continue being comfortable with the norm & resent that actually their Difference is Less & disability is something worse that ppl "excuse" & all these ways that people are & all these things that they do are funny & weird & inexplicable & etc & one can't possibly be cruising along perpetuating a hierarchy with a sense that you're reasonable, well meaning, kind, etc etc & thus Justified, systemic oppression definitely wants to maximize how uncomfortable & arduous it feels to everyone rather than push to make it more streamlined & rewarding to embrace, or at least accept, whatever superiority over others you're afforded

Hello, World!
Hi there, Tumblr! I've been meaning to make an account of my own for a while and i finally got around to it today! I have heard that you are all very nice people :)
My name is Mask! It's what most of my friends call me.
On this blog you'll mostly find:
- Positivity posts! You are all amazing and deserve to be happy, even if we've never met I care about you all!
- Pictures of me sometimes!
- My thoughts and feelings! unsure how often this will happen haha
You can also ask me questions and I might answer them! I hope we can all get along, I'm so happy to chat with all you lovely people!
Hi folks, @w1steria-tea here. This is an askblog for my oc mask.
He is technically a youtube ego/markiplier ego oc but the original concept was a one off and never very fleshed out to begin with (It has shown up in canon exactly twice with no distinct character attatched and the meat of it is noncanon sidecontent), so he's sharing custody with canon. as you do.
WHAT TO EXPECT!! Mask will:
☺ Answer questions! The better the question the more time I spend on the drawing. really good ones may even get multiple drawings!
☺ Make in character text posts! i have. zero idea how often this will happen. its my first time w an rp/askblog we'll see
☺ Respond to comments and reblogs! If you leave interesting tags he might say something back!
Uh other stuff i want to say
☆ Boundaries will be fleshed out as I recieve asks and information about him is revealed, this includes content warnings etc. i have no idea how deep into this we'll get. questions will also likely take a minimum of two days to be answered. art is hard guys
☆ Ooc posts will be tagged #ooc, in character posting that is not responding to an ask will be tagged #in character, #mask speaks, or #mask posts.
☆ all art posted on this blog is done by me unless otherwise stated!
PS: his desktop has a fun theme if u want to check it out its got a music player and silly blinkies and everything!! minor eyestrain warning tho just an fyi
OK THATS IT GO NUTS HAVE FUN SEND HIM TO UR FRIENDS IDK

Topol: You have been a phenom, and I've learned so much from you during the pandemic. I am so impressed. I thought we would start with the COVID-is-airborne story was blown up for quite some time. You have been on it from the get-go. You are the lead person I follow to learn about this field. Can you review what went off the track and if or how we are going to get back on it?
Marr: We were off track to begin with because the default assumption in medicine is that respiratory pathogens — colds, flus, etc. — were transmitted by large droplets that people coughed out, and either sprayed and landed in someone else's eyes, nose, or mouth. Or maybe they landed on a surface or someone's hands, which became contaminated. People would touch those surfaces and then transfer the pathogen — the virus or bacterium — into their eyes, nose, or mouth.
That was the default assumption for several decades, leading up to this. There were some exceptions to the rule for diseases such as measles and tuberculosis, but otherwise, people just assumed that these types of diseases were transmitted by large droplets.
When COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) came about, that was still the assumption. I remember an article in The New York Times published in 2020 asking six key questions about how bad this will get.
One key question was how far does the virus travel in air? And experts said, "Well, the novel coronavirus doesn't travel more than 6 ft, so we don't have to worry about it. In contrast, measles and chickenpox viruses can travel hundreds of feet."
I've been studying flu transmission for 12-13 years now, and I knew the beliefs about SARS-CoV-2 were inaccurate, but nobody listened to what some other aerosol scientists and other experts, including myself, were saying. It didn't matter that much when we had only a background level of disease. But then all of a sudden, it really mattered.
Topol: And it was, of course, not just the World Health Organization but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who was reluctant to accept data that this was not a droplet story, but rather the virus was truly aerosolized. Is this just a reflection of an unwillingness to be receptive to new ideas?
You knew about this for quite some time. You and your colleagues, and other leading scientists in this space (which the medical community hadn't covered adequately) were clamoring about the need to update our views, but there was great resistance to that, right?
Marr: It was in textbooks that this is how diseases are transmitted, so that's what medical students learned and took to be true. It's hard to change people's minds when they've learned something from a textbook.
There was also additional resistance to the idea of airborne diseases because in healthcare and hospitals, that term carries a lot of weight in terms of precautions required for healthcare workers and the facility. If a disease is "airborne," that means that everyone has to wear N95s. The patient is supposed to be in a negative pressure room called an airborne infection isolation room. These things are resource intensive. There is some reluctance to do that unless you really have to. Furthermore, even if they did acknowledge that the disease was airborne, there simply are not enough resources, not enough of these types of facilities in the world to accommodate the number of patients who would have to be in those types of rooms. That said, it wouldn't have to be all or nothing because if you know that the disease is airborne, then greater use of N95s would have cut down on the transmission of infection. If healthcare facilities said, "Okay, this is airborne," many other things would be necessary to protect healthcare workers.
Topol: That's a great point. I hadn't realized the implications for medical facilities and how that would feed into the resistance. In general, wholesale changes about a concept in medicine lead to reluctance.

okay, it seems reading from the “oh dear all those people are so fucked up” angle paid off, i’m barely 41 pages in (vs the book’s 428, that’s Nothing) but look at this quote (pgs 39, 41-42):
It happened that there was a black mirror stand opposite Yuichi. The round mirror had been knocked askew by the robe of someone walking past it, but there on its back, as it were, it reflected full in the face of Yuichi. While they talked, Yuichi felt as if his own face stared at him from time to time.
(...) All the while Yuichi was taken with the face of the beautiful youth that stared at him out of the mirror in the lamplight. The deep, mournful eyes under the intelligent brows stared fixedly in hsi direction.
Yuichi Minami tasted the mystery of that beauty. The face he had always known, filled with the energy of youth, carved with the depth of masculinity, bearing the unhappy bronze substance of youth -- it was his own. Until now Yuichi had felt only loathing in his consciousness of his own beauty. The beauty of the boys he loved, on the other hand, filled him with longing. As men in general do, Yuichi forbade himself ever to believe that he was beautiful. But the fervent praise of this old man before him now rang in his ears; and that artistic poison, the powerful poison of his words, loosened those inhibitions that had persisted so long. He now permitted himself to believe that he himself was beautiful. Now for the first time Yuichi saw himself in all his beauty. Within that little round mirror appeared the face of a surprisingly beautiful youth he had never seen before. The manly lips exposed a row of white teeth that involuntarily broke into a smile.

gonna show u guys a little opalescent highlight hack i threw together today
rainbow gradient above your main figure (i usually have all my main figure folders/layers in one big folder, so i can clip gradient maps + adjustments to it!). liquify tool to push the colors around a bit. STAY WITH ME I KNOW IT LOOKS STUPID RN I'M GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS
THEN: set it to add/glow (or the equivalent in ur drawing program), lower the opacity a bit, and apply a layer mask. then u can edit the mask with whatever tools you like to create rainbow highlights!!
in this case i'm mostly using the lasso fill tool to chip out little facets, but i've also done some soft airbrushing to bring in larger rainbow swirls in some areas. it's pretty subtle here, but you can see it better when i remove the gradient map that's above everything, since below i'm working in greyscale:
more granular rambling beneath the cut!
u could also just do this with a brush that has color jitter, but what i like about using layer masks for highlight/shading layers is how simple and reversible it makes everything. i can use whatever brushes i want, and erasing/redoing things is super low stakes, which is great when i often approach this stuff with a super trial-and-error approach.
example: have u ever thrown a gradient w multiple colors over an entire piece, set it to multiply etc, and then tried to erase it away to carve out shadows/highlights? it's super frustrating, bc it looks really good, but if u erase something and then change ur mind later, u basically would have to like. recreate the gradient in the area u want to cover up again. that's how i used to do things before figuring out layer masks!! but masking basically creates a version of this with INFINITE undo bc u can erase/re-place the base layer whenever u want.
anyway, back to rambling about this specific method:
i actually have TWO of these layers on this piece (one with the liquified swirls shown above, and another that's just a normal concentric circle gradient with much broader stripes) so i can vary the highlights easily as needed.
since i've basically hidden the rainbow pattern from myself, the colors in each brushstroke i make will kind of be a surprise, which isn't always great -- but easily fixable! for example, if i carve out a highlight and it turns out the rainbow pattern in that area is way too stripey, i can just switch from editing the mask to editing the main layer and blur that spot a bit.
also, this isn't a full explanation of the overall transparency effect in these screencaps! there's other layer stuff happening below the rainbow highlights, but the short version is i have all this character's body parts in different folders, each with their own lineart and background fill, and then the fill opacity is lowered and there's multiply layers clipped to that -- blah blah it's a whole thing. maybe i'll have a whole rundown on this on patreon later. uhhh i think that's it tho! i hope u get something useful out of this extremely specific thing i did lmao
