Rayman Head Canons: Rayman's Trauma
Rayman was a very social child yet had timid tendencies when faced with conflict. The only conflict he really had to face back in his homeland was certain species of wildlife or the occasional bully.
When Mr. Dark stole the Great Protoon and began his takeover, Rayman was about 15 years old. With help from Betilla and The Magician, his Parental figures, he managed to triumph against Mr. Dark. He was hailed as a hero and gained a courageous streak. He gained a sense of honor and wanted to help keep the world safe.
The Robot Pirate Invasion happened when he was 18/19 years old. The destruction of the heart of the world (Aka Primordial Energy Core) sapped a lot of magical power away from the citizens, and even left Rayman completely powerless. The powers gifted to him from Betilla years ago were now gone, and he was captured alongside many others. While in that cell, he honestly thought it was over for all of them. He thought they were either going to be enslaved for the rest of their lives, or killed. Having to witness the enslavement of his friends, his family, and even the children of the glade, as well as the lengths the pirates would go to get them, left Rayman suffering with trauma related episodes.
He suffered reoccurring nightmares about the event, sometimes severe enough to where he would wake up in a sweat and panting. Sometimes he would have to call his friends so he could talk with them until he felt ready to go to sleep, or would ask if they or he could come over for the night. Rayman also suffered panic attacks.
After the defeat of the pirates, Rayman was given time to help recover from the events. He had a huge support circle that helped him. The major supports in his circle were Globox, Ly, Betilla, and Murfy.
Rayman had gotten enough help to where it wasn't a constant flare up by time Andre came around to cause trouble. Rayman was just tired, a little jaded, but still loving life and his friends 'n family. Having to evade the knaarens was the scariest thing about the quest for this guy, but he managed to pull through. He's now protected by the Knaaren people by decree of King Gumsi.
The battle against Reflux did take a toll on him. He inadvertently defied one of his primary morals: never kill a foe. Reflux's death lead to him (Reflux) being heralded as a heretic and a traitor of his people, and left Rayman once again suffering some trauma. He would seek comfort in his support circle, and managed to bounce back once again.
Many have asked why Rayman sticks like glue to Globox and Murfy. It's because they would always drop whatever they were doing whenever Rayman needed it. Globox is the comforter, Murfy is the listener.
Rayman still has an occasional nightmare, but they rarely get to the point where he has to call someone. He has a deep fear about his enemies targeting his kids if he ever starts a family. Anytime the globox kids, or anyone Rayman considers his kid are targeted, It can leave him suffering from panic attacks.
This happened at least once when the Rabbids took him hostage and captured a number of Globox's kids to use for their sports. What they did to the Globox kids is primarily why he is very distrustful around Rabbids in general. He considers what they did to him an annoyance, but what they did to the kids is not going to be forgiven so easily.

Tumblr media
saw this meme going around on twytter so I wanted to give my shot on it. Wanted to show some appreciation for some of the Youtube content in light of the idea where many believe animation on Youtube is dying.
the shows:
Meta Runner - Glitch Productions Sonic Rebound - GamerGuyd Super Mario Bros GT - SmasherBlock Every StoryTime Animation - Sr Pelo Cans Without Labels - John K. Ollie and Scoops - Nico Colaleo Band Geeks Reanimated - Opra Zebb and the BGR Community Hazbin Hotel - Vivienne Medrano Epithet Erased - JelloApocalypse
Stray notes:
I am referring to Pelo’s video on Storytime, not so much the genre itself
No, I do not think HH is a masterpiece or the greatest thing to come out this year, but I respect it. Far more than Cans Without Labels or John K himself.
I know there are a lot of other reanimated collabs. I had a lot to choose from.

Rayman Head Canons: Voice Claims Part 2
So a little note before we begin, Rayman Retold had a few faces that were introduced in Rayman 2. I found out that The Great Escape (PS1) and Rayman Revolution (PS2) versions had completely different types of voice acting when it came to the English dubbing. A few of the credited voices had "Rayman 2," but not really anything specific. I'll have to rely on clips and I might not have much info on the voice actors in question.
-----------------------------------------------
Admiral Razorbeard:
I've changed the voice claim from when this post was first made. As much as I loved the previous one, I decided to go back to giving Admiral Razorbeard the voice he had in Rayman Revolution.
Razorbeard was going to be another major villain within the Rayman Retold Project I was working on. Despite his defeat, he was going to return sometime down the line alongside his wife.
youtube
-----------------------------------------------
Jano, The first Nightmare:
Jano actually has 2 voice claims: One when he speaks English, and one that is his native Nightmarish tongue.
For his English lines, I did research and my results were pretty empty. considering Jano actually had 2 English voice actors that depended on which version of Rayman 2 you played and they were VERY different voice portrayals.
Here's the differences between the Rayman 2 playstation games with Jano's English voice:
youtube
When Jano speaks English, it's the voice he had within Rayman Revolution, or the PS2 version. It's the language you hear him use the most when he's communicating with members of the glade that enter his lair.
Within Rayman Retold, his native tongue is a language only used by creatures of nightmare origin. It's mostly referred to as “Nightmarish” but doesn’t actually have an official name. for Jano, its the “Raymanese” voice sound effect he had from Rayman 2.
You don't normally hear Jano pulling the nightmarish language and the voice that goes with it unless he is in a fit of rage, or he’s attempting to corrupt those into his puppets.
youtube
-----------------------------------------------
Princess Barbara:
Ruth Connell. She was the voice for Princess Merida in video games and Sofia the First.
youtube
-----------------------------------------------
Ales Mansay the Teensie Magician
Jess Harnell.
I blame this on when I was shown scenes from Sophia the First, and when I was picking up Ales' Pig Latin voice lines from Origin one night. I couldn't unhear this since, and now I portray Ales with the same vibes and personality as Cedric.

Rayman Head Canons: Voice Claims Part 1
Part of my writing prep for stories is that I'd make character sheets. Pages of general information, kind of like a character bio or an about page.
One of the things listed is voice head canons/claims. A sort of guide that tells you how they sound or even act in the stories sometimes since some of the voice claims were inspirations for portrayals.
This is the Canon character edition. Aka the in game characters you see. I try include voice clips. Not all of the Canon Characters that I had planned in the series have a voice head canon as of yet.
Some characters I list either don’t have an actual voice in the games other than some sound clips, or I just use a voice that better describes a personality behind them.
-----------------------------------------------
Rayman and Raymesis:
To me, Rayman has been and always will be voiced by David Gasman. Gasman has done the English voice of Rayman ever since Rayman 2. He was replaced in Origins and Legends, but made a grand return in Mario Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. (Fun fact: he also did the voice for Mario Rabbid!) He was the voice for Rayman for many many years and will always be THE Rayman voice I have for him.
-Refer to the English time stamp of the video listed below-
youtube
in Raymesis’ regard, he IS a copy of Rayman. The voice still applies, but in Raymesis’ case: picture a more grumpy or growly version of the David’s Rayman voice.
-----------------------------------------------
Globox:
John Leguizamo. He did the voice for Globox in Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc during general game play (Not the cutscenes). One of John's most known roles was Sid the Sloth within Ice Age, before Disney closed Blue Sky Studios. Within Rayman Retold, Globox was a mixed bag of his Rayman 2 personality and his Rayman 3 portrayal. He keeps the voice he had in Hoodlum Havoc.
youtube
-----------------------------------------------
Murfy:
Appearance wise in the story, it's the one he uses in origins and so on. Personality and voice WILL ALWAYS BE THE RAYMAN 3 VERSION! Billy West did the perfect level of sass and snark, and Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc will always be my favorite Murfy. I will fight you to the death for that.
youtube
-----------------------------------------------
Polokus the Bubble Dreamer:
So the voice I chose for Bubble Boi is an inside joke. I picked up the voice clips used within origins one night: his bubble speak ones which is also his main language. As i was listening, I instantly got sent back in time to one of my favorite scenes in the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
This is the reason I depict Polokus being voiced by the wonderful and talented Greg Eagles. He's done the voice of both Grim from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and is also the current voice actor for Aku Aku in Crash Bandicoot media.
youtube
-----------------------------------------------
Mr Dark:
Mr. Dark is, despite being a major villain within Rayman Retold and the Rayman Franchise overall, a very well mannered and well spoken gentleman. He is strict with manners and is incredibly polite to those he considers his allies.
I chose Matthew Mercer for Mr. Dark, specifically for his role as Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5.

Rayman Character Lore: Ales Mansay
Ales Mansay was planned to be the original Magician. The one from Rayman 1 that transformed into the evil teensie that he is in origins and Legends. I decided against it, and the Rayman 1 version got added into Rayman Retold as a unique character just referred to as "The Magician" who is Rayman's father figure and Betilla's love interest. The Teensie version is Ales Mansay.
Ales attended the same magic academy as The Magician and his cousin. He attended the academy alongside Raymona and the two were often study partners. He's always been the Mr. Dark fanboy and wasn't very popular at the academy because of it. Raymona was his only friend. Even after they graduated, they still kept in touch.
After Mr. Dark was defeated in Rayman 1, he spent many long years trying to recover since the defeat, paired with the loss of the great protoon, exhausted of much of his magical ability and strength. Ales kept in constant contact with Mr. Dark and works as his underling while he recovers on the sidelines. Ales dreams of being on equal level as his idol, while Mr. Dark considers him a giggling imbecile.
Part of that work was when he took in Raymesis (aka Dark Rayman) while Mr. Dark was in recovery, much to Raymesis’ displeasure. Only reason Raymesis agreed to go work with Ales was because Mr. Dark wanted eyes kept on the teensie. Ales and Raymesis don’t get along very well at all. Ales gave Raymesis a room to stay at his workshop and keeps him fed, but not much else. Most of the possessions Raymesis has in that room came from Mr. Dark. Ales and Raymesis just tend to ignore each other and give each other space until Ales gives him orders that he will carry out begrudgingly.
Mansay’s the “true teensie magician.” The dark teensies that took his likeness from Rayman Legends are not really affiliated to him. They just look and act like him. Ales considers the dark teensies to be bothersome and highly annoying copies, as well as pretenders. At least he doesn’t have to worry about them anymore, since they got jettisoned to one of the nearby moons and are being tortured during their time spent there. You don't see them after that and Mansay’s glad to be back to being “One of a kind,” in his words.
Ales speaks English, but his native tongue is Fay Latin. While in most circumstances he speaks English, he has moments where he reverts back to Fay Latin. It usually happens when he’s excited, angry, or terrified. When its not simply reverting back accidentally, he uses Fay Latin when he thinks people won’t understand him and will often to make insults or personal jabs at people.
Ales' favorite music genre is Disco. He has a bunch of cds and will play them often while working. Behind closed doors he will break out the cheesiest disco dance moves. If someone catches him doing this, he overreacts by screaming and ordering you to leave before slamming the door.

Note
Funny I also had the similar idea on languages and that Barbara is somewhat confused since her kingdom speaks its own language (heavily based on Scots language) so she often asks for translations.
Barbara and her sister are Scottish in Rayman Retold, though I think she's supposed to be based on Norse culture canonically with the viking motif. I could be wrong though.
The glade is a melting pot of various cultures and languages and since Humans do exist in Rayman's world, a lot of their languages and cultures also melted into the glade.
Rayman in particular is fluent in French and English in Retold. He can also speak Spanish, Italian, and German, but not very well.
Rayman's Multilingual, but even he needs help getting stuff translated for him. He'll usually turn to Murfy or Raymona when he needs something translated. Same for Barbara.
Murfy is also multilingual due to his work at the council. Raymona also picked up various languages while she was studying at the magic academy, not just Fay Latin. While she took a class for Fay Latin, she studied others in her spare time.
Raymona is a fast learner so half the time whenever the gang get together to learn new languages it turns into that scene from the Owl House where they are all learning Spanish
Ales Mansay and Murfy both like to use the languages they know to hide insults or jabs at people if they know they don't understand.

Rayman Character Lore: Murfy
- Author’s note: I love this little sassy snarky greenbottle. One of my favorite Rayman characters. For my stuff in particular I use the Rayman 3 hoodlum havoc Murfy persona. The Billy West personality and voice, but with the appearance/clothes he had from Origins and Legends. Something to keep in mind whenever I write with Murfy.
This is a long post, So I'll put this with a read more for easier blog navigation.
Greenbottles are not fairies. They are a species of magically capable insects. This means Murfy is a bug with magical abilities.
One of these powers comes from the use of the magic stones with the face of a greenbottle on them. He’s the one that answers when you use those stones. He can pick up telepathically when Rayman uses them, and if he can’t be there in person, he will be able to pass on information into his thoughts/mind. He can’t use that ability if the stone isn’t activated, so he’s not going to constantly go into your brain.
Murfy is in his late 20's to early 30's. He likes to make jokes where he tries to act much older and will sometimes go full blown old man on Rayman. Highly exaggerated old man voice and calling himself "Uncle Murfy."
(If you play the gameboy advance version of Raving Rabbids, you actually see Murfy talk like this in the intro/tutorial level. I couldn’t watch their interactions without picturing him with a fully exaggerated old man Billy West voice, pretty much tired of all this shit.)
Murfy is an official member of the fairy council but not part of the higher ups that make the rules. He has his own personalized rank as Rayman’s Guide. He has tried to take this role seriously, but years of having to deal with both Rayman and Globox… he just gave up. He enjoys his role more now that he doesn’t take it seriously, and is now one of the bro's of the team. Murfy doesn’t get along with most of his ludivs co-workers, but he certainly tries. He’s usually the one that has to break up whenever a dispute goes on.
He does however have a place as part of the council when it involves putting criminals on trial. He is well versed in the laws of the Glade of Dreams. It's one of the rare instances where you see him serious about performing his duties and doesn’t make it into one big joke. He will often represent the council when trials are held. He also has the qualifications to perform marriages.
He’s the official keeper of the manual, which is considered a “major” magical artifact. The manual is sentient and communicates by a magic box that just pops up out of nowhere and everyone can see the dialogue from it. Murfy shares a love/hate relationship with this artifact and the teensies are actively trying to take it back from him. Only reason this hasn’t been successful is because intervention from Polokus telling the teensies to just “Learn to laugh.” about it. Polokus was the one that gave him the manual and made him keeper of it in the first place, much to the manual’s dismay. When Murfy is not using it, it stays within the vault along with other magical artifacts for safe keeping.
Murfy drips with sarcasm. This gets him in trouble often but he stopped caring about that ages ago. He is incredibly mindful of when the jokes hurt his friends and will lay off if they express it. He will also make some slightly not safe for work jokes, but he's incredibly careful about doing so in the presence of children. He tries not to, but has been guilty of slipping.
Murfy enjoys a lot of movies, video games, and comics. he knows plenty of references by heart because of it.
(Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc had him dropping lines like telling Rayman to go audition for spider man 2, and a joke reference around Star Wars. “QUICK! THE FORCE IS GROWING STRONGER IN ANDRE! IF WE DON'T STOP HIM SOON, HES GOING TO TELL EVERYONE HE’S YOUR FATHER!”)
Out of the canon trio (Rayman, Globox and of course Murfy himself) He’s the most tech savvy. His computer and smart phone are higher specs than what Rayman and Raymona use. When he's not using the computer to play games, he uses it for fairy council work or video calls with his friends.
Murfy owns a polaroid type camera. The ones where you take the picture, it gives you the photo and you can watch them develop. He really enjoys photography as a hobby. If you ask him to see a few of his pictures, it really makes him happy. His thing is photographing nature: plants and animal life. He will go on for hours over how he managed to get a specific shot, the animal or plant in question, where he found it, ect. If you hear him out through the whole thing it really makes Murfy’s day.
Murfy really enjoys being around kids that will seek him out with legitimate questions. He really likes being a teacher for the younger generation, at least the polite ones. The ones that seek him out asking questions purely in an attempt to tease him makes him annoyed.
He does not get along with ANY of the ludivs in the council. To the luvdivs, the feeling is mutual. He also doesn’t get along with many of the teensies there too. It gets especially heated after Andre’s raid on the heart of the world, given how little security the place has and the sheer importance of the heart of the world has on EVERYTHING.
His relationship with the actual Grand Minimus (the leader of teensies as whole, not just the tribe) is a little rocky, but they do try to get along. He’s one of the few people in the council that has a bit of Murfy’s respect, but he’s not going to admit that publicly. He respects Minimus’ wife more since she actually takes the duties as queen seriously and actually listens to Murfy’s concerns. It was the queen that gave the orders to increase security on the council after the events of Hoodlum Havoc.
If given the option of cooking for himself or fast food, He orders take out all the time. He will not reject if you offer him a meal you cooked yourself though.
While most of the time he doesn’t take stuff seriously and turns things into one big joke, if you ask him for his honest thoughts or opinions on something you did or made, he’s really good at giving constructive criticism.
While he’s mostly seen with the outfit he has from origins and legends, he still has his old outfit from Rayman 2 and 3. He really likes that outfit despite not wearing it as much as he used to. He will put that on when he has to attend things formally. If you mess with that outfit, such as spill your drink on it, he will begin plotting your downfall. He has a large selection of outfits back at his place, and one of these includes the old suit he wore to Raymona's graduation.
How Murfy’s brain works is like: when you present him a problem or puzzle, you will just see him ponder over it for a long time, his eyes darting aimlessly as he just surveys his surroundings. Guy gets lost in thought, he’s long and silent about it, but after a while he will come up with plans or ideas. Unlike Globox or Rayman, he prefers thinking things through rather than the use of on-the-fly plans.
Murfy is to Raymona what Globox is to Rayman. They are incredibly close with one another. Murfy knows Raymona can handle herself but in the event he sees her falter, he will become incredibly protective. He often receives friendly cheek smooches from her and in turn he engages with friendly flirting. It's their friendship quirk. Murfy doesn't do anything with Raymona that would make Rayman uncomfortable, jealous, or upset.

Rayman Retold Lore: Pieces of General Info
The two most well known forms of currencies within the Rayman universe are the tings from the Rayman 1 days, and the gems found within Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc and Hoodlum’s Revenge. Hoodlum’s Revenge had MORE types of gems than found within Hoodlum havoc. If you had gotten a hold of Rayman designer, tings had a few different colors and different purposes.
Tings within Rayman Retold are not sentient like they were in the Gameboy Color version of Rayman. They are just crystal spheres with magical properties.
Tings are the primary currency exchanged with magicians or the fairies for boons, power ups, or general trading purposes. Gems tend to be used more often within folks in exchange for common services: Clothes, groceries, etc.
There ARE other forms of currency in the universe, such as the gold coins Jano possesses in his treasure hoard. Gold coins are a common currency used between the robot pirates.
-----------------------------------------------
Ludivs are classified as fairy creatures while greenbottles are classified as insects. They are considered rivals because greenbottles like to play tricks on luvdivs. They don’t normally get along.
Greenbottles are capable of magic and Murfy is one of the most well known greenbottles that dabble in magic and the affairs of the fairies.
-----------------------------------------------
The Fairy Council houses not only the head honchos that make the big decisions, but as well as a massive library and archive that holds important records over events. They also have a vault that safe keep powerful artifacts. The Fairy Council Headquarters also contains the heart of the world. This is currently where the Great Protoon rests after Mr. Dark’s failed takeover.
The council members in charge of the big decisions within the glade are: Ly the fairy, Betilla and her sisters, the Grand Minimus and his queen, and The Magician from Rayman 1.
The heart of the world and the primordial energy core from Rayman 2 are the same thing in this universe. It has been completely destroyed once and almost used to spawn mass armies of black lums.
The Robot Pirates had destroyed their previous safeguards, and since then they did not have much of a security system and have relied on a really terrible magic lock system. It was easily exploitable and that’s why Andre was able to get to the heart so easily. After the attempt Andre made on the heart, other council members had to file lots of formal complaints before they begin to fix that flaw.
-----------------------------------------------
The world from the very first Rayman game is on a different continent on the map. This was Rayman’s place of birth. It is where most of his kind are currently residing. He later traveled to another continent which contains the Glade of Dreams alongside Betilla to deliver the Great Protoon to the Fairy Council Vault after Mr. Dark’s defeat.
This is Rayman’s current home and where the rest of the storyline (The other games and within Rayman Retold itself) take place. He is one of two known members of his kind that live within the Glade of Dreams. The other being Ly’s creation, Raymona, who was born here.

Rayman Retold Lore: Raymona
When Betilla the fairy created Rayman, Ly the fairy wanted to dip her toes into trying this magical process herself. She did not expect to get it on the first try. From this ritual, a lady thingamagig was born, and Ly adopted her and became her parental guardian as Betilla was for Rayman. Ly would name her Raymona, and became her mentor as well.
Raymona was born within the Glade of Dreams, and she was a curious child with a wild imagination. Always finding fun in every little thing, including her lessons. Ly realized that her creation’s strength differed in comparison to Rayman’s. She was weaker when it came to physical strength, but Ly could detect a glimmer within her being. Raymona began an education in the skill of fay magics, as well as the creation of Lums. She was a student that would strive in her lessons, and a very fast learner.
One day, Ly and Betilla planned to introduce the two ray children. Betilla loved the idea of Rayman making a new friend, and agreed with Ly that Raymona may make a good ally to him in the future. Ly arranged to spend half the year in Betilla’s homeland. The young Rayman was introduced to Ly and Raymona. Rayman gleefully welcomed his new friend and gave her a tour of his homeland. The two were considered inseparable. From learning musical instruments in Band Land, to picking flowers for their guardians in The Dream Forest, the two would do everything together. All the way until it was time for Ly and Raymona to return to the Glade of Dreams.
Rayman and Raymona were heartbroken. The two children begged their guardians to let Raymona stay. Betilla and Ly gave the two a method to keep in contact. They became pen pals and would write letters to each other all the time. Rayman would write to Raymona about how his life was going, and Raymona did the same. Through these letters, Rayman learned that Raymona was going to attend the same Academy that his father figure, The Magician, had attended with his cousin. Rayman sent Raymona a card and a flower from the forest when she graduated from the Academy.
After Mr. Dark’s defeat and the Great Protoon was recovered, Betilla decided to take the artifact to the Fairy Council located within the Glade of Dreams, which was on an entirely different continent and was a much different atmosphere than what Rayman was used to. Rayman traveled with her, and the great protoon was placed within the artifact vaults. Once their task was done, Betilla decided to stay in the glade to safeguard the protoon while The Magician kept an eye on things back home. Ly welcomed Rayman and Betilla to the glade and helped them get adjusted to their new lives in the glade.
Rayman would later be introduced to Globox, his wife Uglette, and their children. They offered Rayman a place to stay until he was able to acquire his new house. As Rayman was getting moved into his house, he received a surprise visit from Raymona. Rayman’s excitement bubbled over, and he greeted his old friend in excitement. Raymona helped Rayman move into his home, and they began to exchange stories with each other. Their friendship continued from where they left off. Raymona would introduce Rayman to one of her close friends, Murfy the greenbottle.
Rayman and Raymona have been through a lot together, even facing the invasion of the Robot Pirates within their homeland, which left him with a bit of trauma. Rayman becoming uncomfortable in cramped spaces or cells, as well as suffering occasional nightmares about the event to this day. Raymona being a source of comfort and support to him during these moments. Their bond would be strengthened, and the two started dating. He even gifted her the red neckerchief he wore in the past and she wears it to this day. When Rayman is not palling around with Globox or Murfy, he’s often seen in the company of Raymona on his various adventures through the glade, with her becoming a well-coordinated member of Rayman’s team roster.
Raymona would aid the team through healing via the creation of red lums, use of fairy powers like levitation, or magic bullet projectiles as her form of combat. Being a bit of a bookworm, she will offer aid as well in the form of research. When anyone needs information on something, she will start searching for it through books, or within the fairy council’s library. Raymona developed a quirk where she tries to offer friendship to a few of the villains Rayman has faced over the years. He supports her doing this, but it’s not easy on him.

Rayman Character Lore: Raymesis and Demona
-Long Post Ahead-
The Raymesis stationed on this blog is the same Dark Rayman that Mr. Dark created during the Rayman 1 game. As time went on, he gained more of a personality for himself that wasn't just a simple dark copy that could kill with one touch. As well as an appearance and clothing change.
The defeat of Mr. Dark led to him losing quite a bit of his power and strength to the great protoon. This also effected Raymesis. He eventually lost the ability to kill on touch, but it's a change that Raymesis later grew to embrace. He still worries about the power possibly returning, since he does not want to harm those he trusts.
Currently, Raymesis resides with Ales Mansay at his workshop. The two do not get along at all. Ales makes sure Raymesis is fed and that's pretty much it. Raymesis still keeps in contact with Mr. Dark as he recovers at the chateau, and will often visit him to check on him. He only really stays at Ales' place to keep an eye on him for Mr. Dark.
Raymesis still likes to try to torment Rayman, but Raymona keeps trying to reach out to him as a friend despite this. This confuses Raymesis greatly. He doesn't understand why Raymona is so nice to him. Rumor has it that he appreciates the gesture deep down, but he cannot publicly express it due to Mr. Dark. Mr. Dark did discover that Raymesis was trying to befriend Raymona, so he created a Dark Doppleganger of her. Fusing what was left of his power with a bit of Jano's, he created Demona.
Demona is considered Raymesis' sister due to them sharing the same creator. She was intended to be a companion for Raymesis, but something went wrong with the creation process. She is a lot colder, harsher, and much more cruel compared to Raymesis. Raymesis will often call her by the sister title, but Demona doesn't usually return the gesture unless it's a form of mocking.
Demona is considered unstable and out of control. She even treats Mr. Dark pretty harshly and often disobeys his orders. When Mr. Dark orders her not to harm his prisoners, she may do it anyway. Mr. Dark punishes her extremely and frequently. Such as locking her in a dark cell for days until she finally calms down, or is burnt out from the fits she throws while in confinement.
This treatment of Demona has lead to Mr. Dark favoring Raymesis. Raymesis is very much Mr. Dark's son in his eyes. He will often dote on his creation, and teach him things. Mr. Dark has taught Raymesis how to play both the piano and the violin. He has shared his love of classical music with Raymesis. He made sure Raymesis had a well furnished room at the chateau, and provided all the furnishings at Raymesis' place at Ales' Workshop.
Demona was eventually moved to stay with Ales and Raymesis at the workshop, but Mr. Dark left Ales some very clear instructions on how to deal with her. Demona is often locked in a cell at night to ensure she does not escape to cause trouble. Raymesis often sneaks her out of the cell. It has backfired a few times on him.
Raymesis is not entirely evil. He just likes to cause trouble, though he will always obey Mr. Dark's orders. There are some things that don't sit right with him, and Mr. Dark usually takes time to console Raymesis if he's having a hard time after fulfilling an order.
Demona is heralded as being an emotionless, cruel, monster, but Rayman and Raymesis both seem to see some spark of good in her and are constantly trying to reach out to her. While Raymesis will target only Rayman, Demona targets any of Raymona's loved ones, Rayman included. She very rarely targets her heroic counterpart directly.

Well actually Vikings did settle in Scotland for some time so Barbara being Scottish with a Viking motif can work. I love the melting pot idea and does tie neatly with Fiesta De Los Muertos and Mount Olympus.
Now I’m thinking that the First King is very well versed in older dialect of Fay Latin compared to modern teensies making him say things that would be out of date haha.
Absolutely. The First King would also know a lot of the cultures and languages that have long since died out in the glade. Not just languages either, this includes the traditions or old lore of ancient past, the species of the glade that are long since extinct. Even translating ancient runes or symbols that would be etched on ruins, or questions in ancient magics.
It is very difficult for a living being to traverse the Land of the Livid Dead safely, so not many tend to seek him or Voodoo Mama out for that reason. When they do make it to the First King's Palace, they often seek him out for advice in the ancient.
Rayman would make a habit of drawing carvings to the best of his ability on a sheet of paper, or taking old tomes to bring the guy to be translated. Rayman and the First King are on very good terms and will always help one another out when the need arises.

Rayman Retold Lore Post: The Knaaren
Disclaimer: This post contains details that may be triggering to those who have issues around references of when childbirth leads to the death of the mother.
When you play hoodlum havoc, it seemed that a lot of the knaaren that Rayman interacted with…they were all males as far as I know, and Gumsi was “The child king of the knaaren”.
I was wondering if there WERE females of the species, or did they just pull what World of Warcraft did with the hozen where the females sound and look identical to the males. Where are the females? also…there didn't seem to be any children other than Gumsi.
I decided to put my own personal touch on this:
Knaaren have a belief system that their females and their children are incredibly precious. This leads to a few of their members having high respect levels not only towards their own females, but any female from any other species.
Why are they so precious to them and why do they have such levels of respect?
Knaaren childbirth is incredibly difficult. The typical result is the females die during childbirth. It is incredibly rare for females to survive. When they do, the knaarens worship her like an icon or deity of their people.
Knaaren have 2 kinds of courtship or mating systems. Marriage and Consorts.
Married Couples are referred to Mates in knaaren society. Marriage is a big deal for the knaarens. If you are lucky enough to have a knaaren as your spouse, knaarens marry for life. They become fully devoted to you and you alone. It's not just a mate for life either! If you die and you were married to a knaaren, THEY NEVER SEEK ANOTHER ROMANTIC PARTNER. YOU HAVE BECOME THEIR ONE AND ONLY. They have committed themselves to you, and will never reproduce again.
This leads to difficulty in keeping the species alive. That is why the consort system exists. Most of the time, males will seek females with consort systems. This means they are allowed to bed females and be allowed to produce young, but not be tied to them like a marriage does.
The consort system is flawed. Many folks, even within the knaaren people themselves, are aware of this. The problem is these views are not easily changed. It's considered a "for the greater good" scenario. The system is considered flawed because it has lead to many children being orphaned.
When a female passes from child birth, The typical response is supposed to be that the father comes forward and will take the child into their care. But there have been many scenarios where the father never came forward. If a father doesn’t come forward, a massively long line forms that are willing to adopt the child into their care. For a few knaaren, this is their saving grace that allows them to have a child of their own without the risk to their partner's life. A child ALWAYS ends up finding an adoptive family.
One of these cases was Gumsi. Gumsi’s mother was the previous queen of the knaaren. She became pregnant by a consort and she died from childbirth. No father ever came forward and Gumsi's father was never found. Everyone within the ruins came forward wanting to adopt this kid. THIS KID WAS GOING TO BE THE KING AFTER ALL!
One Knaaren came forward to adopt the child, and due to her status she became unchallenged to become the adoptive caretaker for Gumsi. This woman was Kahli the God-blessed. a Knaaren Soothsayer, the royal advisor for Gumsi’s mother, and who also served as midwife for Gumsi’s birth.
-----------------------------------------------
Females are built more to be speedy and athletic. Most of the established magic users are female. There are few instances of male mages. the only known one from within the story was Reflux.
Females also don’t have that gravelly growl most males have when they talk. but it IS a deep sounding voice.
That's it for the female specific details! the rest is general lore for all the Knaaren people!
-----------------------------------------------
For children, there ARE other children of the species around. You don't normally see them without a parent close by. An angry knaaren is dangerous, and nothing is more dangerous within the Rayman universe than a knaaren parent when their children are being threatened. They are already prone to primal feral fits of rage. If its a parent and you are a threat to their child, they become completely lost in their rage. These rage fits are powerful enough to level entire buildings to the foundation. The aggressor is going to die painfully, and will be consumed.
-----------------------------------------------
I mentioned earlier that marriage is a big deal in knaaren society. Weddings are the BIGGEST celebrations for them. They are Highly Elaborate, Highly Expensive (no cost is too high for a knaaren wedding), and one of the most formal affairs.
Being married to a knaaren is considered the highest honor to most within the Rayman universe, especially in inter-racial marriages. There are some that actually frown upon this, however. There do exist a small number of outsider minds that think knaaren are savages and want nothing to do with it.
-----------------------------------------------
Knaaren don’t normally travel outside of the ruins. Being in the sunlight for long periods can seriously damage their skin. There are some instances of them traveling out of their underground home. If they go out into the sunlight, they have to be completely covered from top to bottom. Those that allow their skin to become exposed will often have to oil or moisturize their skin, as the constant exposure to sunlight leaves their skin painfully cracked and dehydrated.
-----------------------------------------------
Knaaren are invincible as in they cannot die by physical means. They can be stabbed, Shot, crushed, and they will still come after you. This does not mean they are completely unkillable. Each knaaren have their own way of being defeated. It's unique per knaaren person. Not every Knaaren can die in the same manner. In most cases, it has to do with internal methods or around consumption. All females are capable of dying from childbirth.
Knaaren are not born with invincibility. They are born vulnerable and they grow into their invincibility around preadolescent age.
-----------------------------------------------
The Knaaren Primary Deity is The Leptys. He is known as Night Father, Father of the Knaaren People, or The Total Eclipse.
Curses do exist within Rayman universe. There is some very mild ones that you know: example being Globox constantly dropping Gaseous Glutes, and you used to see me drop one called “Jano’s Jaws” which is another within the Rayman Retold Universe specifically.
Knaaren folk also have their own take on curses. “By Leptys’ Shade” is one of the most common ones used by knaaren folk.
-----------------------------------------------
One of the “Classes” or professions within Knaaren society are Soothsayers. In Knaaren society they tend to be the wise men or women of the race. Most can simply commune with Leptys and that's it. There is only one soothsayer currently alive that could commune with more than just Leptys, she was made royal advisor for this (Kahli the God-Blessed)

Spoocy's Grand Return!
It has been a long time since I last touched this blog. A lot has happened that lead the blog stagnating. I had a fall out with a toxic friend who I would try to tell my Rayman ideas to, Had a complete rebrand to "Spoocy" (Thats meeee!!!) and I just fell out of the fandom for a bit and focused on other things, including dipping my toes into the roleplay/ask blog scene in 2 other fandoms.
When the recent DLC for Rabbids: Sparks of Hope launched with the grand return of Rayman, I assumed it was going to kickstart my hyperfixation into gear once again. I finally picked up a walkthrough of the Rayman DLC a couple days ago, just finished it yesterday and I've had Rayman brain rot for the past few days as I was watching it. My nostalgia for the fandom returned and the desire to engage with the community has returned. I've also found a way to properly balance multitasking with various blogs.
What happens from here?
First: Since the deletion of and old blog, and the rebrand of my personal blog, I just noticed a few of my posts completely broke. The keep reading sections do not work anymore for some, and some of the posts now have broken links.
First order of business is to scour my blog, and either fix the broken links, or completely re upload my old lore posts or head canon posts that are broken. I also have some stuff that has been sitting in my drafts for over a year or two. I am considering posting at least one of those. I will possibly be re uploading a lot of content over here and deleting the old versions of the post. Clean slate, and everything now located on this blog instead of being spread between the now deactivated old blog and my personal blog now located over at @spoocys-funhouse.
Second: I'm not only making this a blog for general Rayman Content and rebloggings, but also turning this into an ask blog, where you can send asks to either my fan characters, or my depictions of canon characters from my old Rayman Retold Project.
Rayman Retold was going to be a complete personal fan retelling of the Rayman continuity that inserted my fan characters into the major story plots. Pretty much the overall plots were the same, with inclusions of plot important fan characters, and other major storylines between the game events. This now includes the Rabbids: Sparks of Hope DLC.
At the time of this post going up, anything in relation to the DLC will have a spoiler warning.
Sadly, I've not been able to work on actually writing that stuff past head canons, lore dumps or general world building ideas. I've suffered from a special kind of writer's block. I try to type out a full fledged story that's not just some long draft/notes, and I just freeze. No motivation comes to me. I'm like a deer in headlights. I've found that using Asks or even roleplay formats help tell my stories more. Also I think some of you may enjoy being able to interact with our favorite big nosed hero and other characters from the games.
I want to get my ideas out there somehow since I can't manage to write an actual fan fiction.
I'm going to work on getting character sheet/bio's uploaded for the Cast of "Ask Rayman and friends" As well as a list of the crew available for asks. (Trust me there are going to be a few well known names that you can pop asks to, and I'll be featuring ask memes on the blog for the sake of throwing at our heroes and villains. Some of the cast will even have emote responses.)
It's good to be back and I am excited to interact with some old mutuals in the Rayman fandom if they are still here, as well as new faces in the community.

Rayman Fan Characters: Kahli The God-blessed
this character’s story includes major spoilers to the events of games especially around hoodlum havoc.
this is a VERY long post:
Kahli classified as a plot important fan character within Rayman Retold but she was scheduled to come later down the timeline, specifically during and after the events of Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc. she appears quite often after the in game events, and does have significance within certain story plots.
Kahli was the lady that would act as advisor for the knaaren royalty. she was especially close with Gumsi’s mother, who was the previous ruler of the Knaaren, their queen. Kahli is also one of the most important knaaren ladies in the social status. She is the lady that was the mid-wife for any knaaren females during childbirth.
Knaaren women have extreme difficulty with childbirth. The norm in most cases is that the mothers will die. Knaaren are not born with their fabled invincibility and grow into it, so children are vulnerable.
Khali is a soothsayer. Knaaren soothsayers tend to act as voices for the Leptys and a small number could foretell events in the future. Kahli could communicate with any of the Rayman universe gods telepathically. Not just the Leptys! She could communicate with gods like Polokus, and Jano the first nightmare would constantly reach out to try to corrupt this woman into his puppet.
Her soothsaying allows her to peer into events that have taken place in the past, or are planned to take place in the future. She has a little spot within the ruins that she uses for these event scryings. Normally she does not tend to get involved on the events that are planned to happen, however it doesn’t mean she never does. she DOES get involved and tries to change, but it really depends on the circumstances. She can’t change the past, but she can try to change the future ones. Most times she allows the event to happen and is forced to suffer in silence over it. She gets a lot of fingers pointed at her going “WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP THIS!?” This treatment has lead to her as coming off as a grouch or uninterested in interacting socially.
When Gumsi’s mother passed away due to the complications their kind have with childbirth, his father never came forward to claim him. Kahli searched for him, but he was never found. His fate is currently unknown. A massive line started so others could try to adopt Gumsi due to his status as the next in line for the throne. When Kahli made it known that she had intentions of adopting the child herself, she became unchallenged and Gumsi’s care was given to her uncontested. Kahli adopted Gumsi as her grandson.
Gumsi calls her Mee-Maw. He gushes over her being the coolest grandma in the universe. Always goes on and on about her powers and abilities. Gumsi admired her more than he did with Reflux, who was another of his idols.
Gumsi knows the details of what happened during his birth. He is incredibly protective of his Mee-maw and will threaten to fight you if you claim you are seeking her guidance out.
She might not be able to die from physical means or age, but she’s not un-killable. Her weakness is consumption of poisonous materials. She has been victim to assassination attempts via poisoning before and has survived. Gumsi was forced to witness the poisoning assassination attempts.
Gumsi does NOT react well when he knows his Mee-maw is in distress. Gumsi is a child; A very emotionally fueled child. These attempts have left Gumsi with trauma. His greatest fear is something happening to Kahli that leads to her death, and him being alone. It scares him to death. When Kahli was poisoned and they were trying to cure her, he would go to her side, crying, screaming, begging her to not leave him. She has survived every attempt.
Kahli later made the decision to gift Gumsi the scepter of Leptys. It originally belonged to her. Kahli was going to raise Gumsi with a close connection with the gods, especially Leptys. It was her way of passing down her legacy to him. This also helps Gumsi with combating his fears of one day being alone.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Kahli and Polokus are considered the bro-sis of the god/mortal regard. One of their gags are when Murfy’s going off at a person and is making jabs about appearances. She just looks all annoyed, but gets an "Aha!" moment like “Wait! I have just received a message from Polokus to pass along to you, Murfy” Murfy grins going “What’s that, Grandma?” and Kahli proceeds to smack Murfy hard enough tto knock him out of the air. When Murfy goes complaining to Polokus, the bubble dreamer just looks annoyed, bubbling away on his pipe, and responds “In this household, we give thanks to big noses!”
Kahli’s humor can sometimes come off on the more dark or crass side, sometimes at her own expense. One of her go to personal jokes is when she sees something she just wants to forget is she will just make a comment “You know. some days i wish i had dementia. I want to forget I ever saw this”
She’s been witness to so many mothers dying, and the fate of babies that are seconds born becoming questioned. This lead to her completely swearing off the possibility of one day producing young. Her position was too important for that. Now she can no longer produce young. She has become infertile due to her age.
Kahli is considered ageless. No one knows if this is true, but she has lived to be at least one thousand years old. She is elderly, but still in shape.
Khali has incredible magic abilities. These abilities surpassed Reflux in power. She could have easily taken out Reflux for the title of champion, she simply chose not to. She already had enough on her plate. She NEVER liked reflux. At all. She’s never been fond of pit fighting in general but attends matches because Gumsi oversees them and is fond of watching them. She also knew Gumsi idolized Reflux.
Kahli ventures out of the ruins frequently due to her often being called to attend serious matters over in the fairy council. It's why Kahli tends to use her hooded robe as her main attire. She also brings jars of moisturizer with her when she leaves the ruins to tend to her skin in the event it starts to dry out and crack.
Kahli has a voice head canon too. Females don't have that gravelly accent that the knaaren tend to have, but their voices are still a bit on the deep side.
the voice head canon for Kahli here is a woman named Renee Victor.
Renee victor has been known for voices such as Abuelita in the movie Coco. but the reason i did her was for her role within The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. She was the woman that did the Argonian females such as Keerava, Deeja, And the marriable Female Argonian, Shahvee When you hear Kahli speak, she tends to sound like this:
youtube
Bonus to the re-uploaded version of this post: A commission I ordered from user @nausinoisette a long time ago that features Kahli for reference.
Tumblr media
----------------------------------------------------
Here’s where things dig into her part within Rayman Retold:
Andre and Reflux were able to steal the scepter from Gumsi during Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc. How did that happen without Mee-maw knowing? Kahli tells people this often: She does not instantly know about the future events. She has to peer into these events herself. She must have been curious and go to the process of peering in. SHE DID NOT KNOW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE SHE NEVER PEERED INTO THIS SPECIFIC EVENT.
Reflux and Andre attempted to take the scepter from Gumsi by force.
Knaaren are dangerous if you make them mad. They go into full rage and blood lust that they can level entire buildings, and the most dangerous is a knaaren parent that knows their child is threatened.
Kahli could have EASILY murdered Reflux and Andre. They knew she could. They planned for that. All they had to do was have Reflux hold up Gumsi by the collar of his robe. The child was failing at trying to strike at them. Andre offered Kahli a deal. If Kahli let them take the scepter and go with their plan, they would not kill Gumsi.
Gumsi still had not grown into his invincible status, so they could easily carry that threat out. Kahli could only growl and she handed over the scepter in exchange for her grandson’s life. She lives in regret to this day that she allowed what happened to the Leptys to occur, but Gumsi is the most important person in her life. Even more important than her faith to the Leptys.
Reflux is of the deceased status after he crystalized and broke in the final fight within Hoodlum Havoc. Kahli cursed him to be forever known as Reflux the Blasphemer, and the knaaren call him that to this day. The scepter was recovered by Kahli after Reflux’s defeat and is back in Gumsi’s possession.
Rayman officially meets her after the events of Hoodlum Havoc. Rayman would often go to visit Gumsi and just pal around the kid. Gumsi introduces his Mee-maw to Rayman all starry-eyed like “ISN'T MY MEE-MAW COOL”
Rayman has like… 3 different people he considers moms at this point in his life. Kahli became the woman that he would call “Grandma” affectionately. Kahli loves this and just starts chuckling going “I love this kid.”
Rayman ends up rubbing off on this woman in a positive fashion. her normally grumpy and lack of social interaction improve during their interactions and she becomes a woman of jokes and all smiles.

Rayman Head Canons: Voice Claims Part 4
Clark the Giant:
Clark was a character introduced in Rayman 2, I believe that was really the only time we saw him. In Rayman Retold, he was going to appear often. He's one of Rayman's best friends just like Globox is.
I could never get the idea of Clark being voiced by John DiMaggio out of my head. John is known for his roles as Bender the Robot in Futurama, King Zog in Disenchantment, Jake the dog in Adventure Time, Killer Croc from Batman Unlimited, Timandahaf from the English dub of Asterix and the vikings, and the Scotsman from Samurai Jack to name a few.
youtube
-------------------------------------------------
Andre:
The same black lum from Rayman 3 hoodlum Havoc. Andre is another I where I veer off from the original voice material for a fully voiced character.
The way I portray Andre is not as much of a villain, but more of just a general troublemaker. Similar to Raymesis. He's had to stay on the down low since he lost his main muscle. He causes trouble to the local lums and this includes Lumlight.
As much as I liked the original portrayal, there is a different voice actor that I think fits this little trouble maker a lot better. Alex Brightman.
Alex Brightman is a Broadway Actor well known for his role as the voice for Fizzarolli from Hellova Boss, Sir Pentious and Adam from Hazbin Hotel, but my personal favorites is his acting role as Beetlejuice.
youtube
-------------------------------------------------
Space Mama:
Some of you may have seen the stand alone post for this. That will be taken down shortly after this post launches.
Space Mama is one of the characters from Rayman 1 that will pop up over to Rayman's current homeland. She is a famous actress and will travel all over the world to give performances. After the events of Rayman 1, Rayman and Space Mama hold no ill will towards each other and have become good friends. Space Mama will even reserve special seats for him whenever she's alerted that he's coming to her show.
I have Natasia Demetriou for Space Mama's voice claim. She is known for roles such as Cala Maria in The Cuphead Show on Netflix, Sleep in Orion and the Dark, and Wingnut from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
youtube
-------------------------------------------------
Carmen the Whale:
Carmen was a character from Rayman 2 that, as far as I know, did not have any in game voice lines. Possibly due to her only having like one line in Rayman Revolution. I'm not sure if she had dialogue in the over versions of Rayman 2.
Carmen is one of Rayman's many mother/aunt figures in his life. She will watch over him and protect him whenever he's swimming or boating on the ocean. She will make sure the Limbless gets safe passage and will chase off any foes that seek to do him or his boat harm. She is a very protective, motherly force of nature.
I posted about the inspiration for her character a long time ago. This is also why I chose this for her voice claim. Roz Ryan.
Roz Ryan has done voice acting for characters like Cake from the Fiona and Cake series, Bubbie the whale from The Marvelous Adventures of Flapjack (which is her character inspiration), Witch Lezah from The Looney Tunes Show, and Thalia the muse of comedy from the Disney Hercules media.
Since I've used the original Bubbie video to death at this point, I've opted for a different one for this post that is also 100% accurate for Carmen the Whale.

Oh you’re speaking of voice headcanons could I contribute some?
For Betilla she’d be Deedee Magno Hall she has that perfect gentle nice mom voice that fits Betilla demeanor.
Deedee was the voice actress for Pearl from Steven Universe, right?
Gosh darn it now I'm not going to get the image of Betilla pulling these sounds out of my head.
youtube
Jokes side though, I can actually see this working for Betilla? The way I portray her is the serious yet gentle mother type. Cares deeply for Rayman and The Magician (who was her love interest in my Rayman Retold Projects and even created Rayman in his image). While not as overbearing as Pearl could be, she certainly was very protective of her creation.
VOICE CLAIM ACCEPTED!
