I love how Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel specifically cameoed during One Short Day, because that’s the song where Glinda and Elphaba are talking about their future together- a future that we know they’ll never get. BUT having Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth there feels like we got to see a version of Elphaba and Glinda who DID get their happy ending together living in the Emerald City 💚🩷

An OTP that talks things out? Will miracles never cease? Because she tells him all about her mother's suicide and how it made her wary of love and marriage (and yeah, between first life marriage and her mom's fate, it would be amazing if she wasn't.) She is actually explaining things!!!

I love how smart he is, how smart they both are - the way he understands and also the way he can tell it's not just that.

She actually tells him about the first life stuff!!! That never happens!!! And yes, her desire for distance is driven even more by this than her mother/first life marriage, isn't it? She really freaked after that arrow.

AAAAAA! I love that this indicates this has now gone sufficiently different that she may escape that fate. And with her being so cautious and so scarred, she needed proof like this so she could move forward, to be willing to risk and not think it's 100% doom guaranteed for them both.

(My theory - at some point later on it will pop back out, when things are grim, and she will lose it.)

OH, here's something I forgot to mention in my bullet points! The movie is very intentional about when and how other characters touch Nessa's wheelchair.

You know the stage version of Dancing Through Life, where Boq says "Let's dance," and immediately pushes Nessa's wheelchair around as a part of the choreography? None of that here. The movie goes out of its way to have Elphaba and Nessa emphasize that Nessa should be in charge of her own movement. When Boq wants to dance, he gets in front of Nessa and takes her hands. When someone pushes Nessa's chair without asking, that is a bad thing.

I'm not qualified to do more than observe the effort I can see the film making, but I definitely noticed the effort. Especially with the casting of Nessarose being so phenomenal.
