TV y cómics: Tyler Michaels

"Charmed" (ocho temporadas entre 1998 y 2006) fue un bastión de The WB desde su estreno y acabó convirtiéndose en una huella profunda en la cultura popular. En líneas generales, la creación de Constance M. Burge, producida por el prolífico Aaron Spelling, versaba sobre la historia de las Halliwell, tres hermanas que eran, además, hechiceras: Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) y Prue (la recordada Shannen Doherty); hay un cuarto miembro del clan que toma el lugar de Doherty cuando ésta abandona la serie a partir de la cuarta temporada: Paige Matthews, la media hermana de las chicas interpretada por Rose McGowan. El trío emprende la titánica empresa de luchar contra toda clase de demonios, brujas y demás seres monstruosos.

En uno de sus capítulos (el duodécimo de la cuarta temporada, titulado "Lost and Bound"), ellas se topan con Tyler Michaels (Alex Black), un muchacho de once años que tiene el poder de crear y lanzar fuego. En la única aparición televisiva del personaje, Tyler es un niño que vive con sus padres adoptivos y sufre por las consecuencias graves originadas por su don. Lo que no sabe, en una información otorgada por sus nuevas amigas, es que éstos son unos demonios cazarrecompensas que lo quieren dejar en manos de Ludlow (Ray Wise) y, más específicamente, de La Fuente, que es la fuerza maligna más poderosa del Universo. En el capítulo, Tyler es sólo un niño asustado por su extraordinario poder y por la posibilidad cierta de herir o matar a cualquiera que se ponga en su camino mientras sienta un furor rabioso.

No obstante, lo que le depara un lugar en este blog es su profusa participación en el comic, donde la serie adquiere su novena y décima temporada. Su historia continúa seis años más tarde, adonde descubrimos que la elección que había tomado para salir del radar de las fuerzas malignas (no diré cual para evitar spoilers) fue inútil y logró revertirla. Allí conocemos su pertenencia a una especie inusual, llamada "archai", que vuelve a contactarse con las hermanas y que, entre las muchas aventuras que vive (y padece), es de destacar el romance que mantiene con Kareem Scales, un brujo con poderes extraordinarios.
