A series of Still life with fish in the 1920s by Chaim Soutine

Soutine appreciation because why not!

These are probably the earliest ones I can find and painted circa 1920 - 1921. Most of the fish portrayed here are his daily food and canned sardines apparently, since he was pretty much penniless before Paul Guillaume became his art dealer in 1923 and propelled him into the limelight of Parisian high-art.

Next, we have these two still life, painted around 1924 - 1925. You can see that his fishes are now fresher, fleshier and prolly not canned/fried food anymore, as in 1923, Albert C. Barnes, a famous collector, bought 80 of his paintings (thanks to Paul !) so he was stinky rich now.

His most famous one, Still life with Rayfish, created circa 1924.
