Edgar Canet ha tenido un año lleno de competiciones, participando en el Rally de Portugal, Rallye du Maroc, Desafío Ruta 40, Oasis Rally y Baja Aragón para ganar experiencia valiosa y clasificarse para el Rally Dakar 2025. Debutando en el campeonato mundial a los 19 años en el Rally de Portugal 2024, Edgar impresionó al asegurar el tercer lugar en su primer prólogo profesional. A marca Alemã desde quando tinha anunciado seu programa com um carro hibrido seria de três anos indepedente do resultado de 2024 , o programa se encerraria, e foi que aconteceu. 

Ford

A Ford após uma participação em 2024 com vários problemas para obter informações em parceria com a M-Sport e a Sul-Africana NWM Motorsport com o modelo Ranger Raptor T1+ como principal desenvolvidor o campeão do Dakar de 2014, Nani Roma

 Agora com o modelo Raptor T1+ , pilotado pelo atual campeão do Dakar nos carros, Carlos Sainz Pai , Mitchell Guthrie 2ª posição nos UTVs Challenger e vencedor na categoria no Fia W2RC , e o Matias Ekstrom , campeão do DTM 2X e campeão do mundial de rallycross. Alèm disso terá a nova Ranger T1+ preparada pela Past Racing , com o Espanhol Daniel Alonso, e a Raptor RS T1+ do Martin Prokop. 

Dacia

A marca da Renault da Romenia , a Renault que participou com uma equipe Argentina com o modelo Duster  entre 2014-2018, estará de volta ao Dakar Rally em 2025 em parceria com a Prodrive com carro chamado de “Sandrider T1+” , a  equipe esteve competindo nos últimos anos com um buggy próprio , chamado “Hunter” terminando em em 2ª posição em 2022 e 2023 , com Sebastien Loeb que será um dos pilotos , junto com Nasser All Attyah , 5x campeão do Dakar Rally e a Cristina Guttierrez , campeã do Dakar rally 2024 nos UTVs Challenger e em 2022 campeã da Extreme E , que volta a correr nos carros que ela competiu no Dakar até 2020.

O carro da Dacia, tem muita coisa com base no Prodrive Hunter T1+ , menos o motor que era um Ford V6 Turbo , por um motor Nissan V8 derivado do modelo Z.

Toyota

A  Toyota estará de volta com a equipe de fabrica Gazzo Racing, com Lucas Moraes como um dos pilotos e  entradas privadas com o apoio da Over Drive Racing, sendo uma delas a dupla de ex-pilotos de moto campeões por Toby Price e Sam Sunderland.

Mini

A Mini agora com uma dupla de pilotos nova formada pelo Guilame de Mevius que terminou em 2º lugar na edição de 2024 com Toyota privado preparado pela Over Drive , e Guerlain Chicheret que correu com Toyota Privado com o modelo Mini Cooper 2.0 T1+ que terá atualizações , e o Portugues João Ferreira que na edição de 2023 correu nos UTVs Challenger  com Yamaha YXZ 1000 R preparado pela X-Raid.

Century 

A preparadora de Buggy Sul-Africana   estará com equipe de fabrica com Laia Sanz , Mathiue Serradori com o modelo CR7 T1+ ,Brian Baragwanath, com carros de entradas privadas terá os Irmãos Coronel com e o Brasileiro  Marcelo Gastaldi , que terminou a última edição do rally Dos Sertões nos carros em segundo,  que na edição do Dakar de 2024 competiu nos UTVs Challenger , que teve uma vitória de etapa.

Volksvaguen

Uma das novidades será a Amarock T1+ preparada pela PS Laser Racing na Africa do Sul .

Red Lined

O buggy feito na Africa do Sul pela Red Lined Motorsport chamado de Revo T1+, com motor Nissan V8 derivado do GT-R , que estreou em 2024 terminando na 25ª posição com a Arabe Allyyah Koloc .

UTVs

A Can-am estará com o novo Maverick R com a equipe de fabrica e com clientes pelo menos na categoria SSV.

Apache

O UTV com motor hibrido derivado  Peugeot, que ganhou a  ultima edição do Africa Eco Race na geral , fará sua estreia no Dakar em 2025.

X-RAID

O UTV desenvolvido pela X-Raid que prepara os Mini , o X-Raid Fenix  1000R  com motor derivado Yamaha.

Taurus

Varios modelos T3 Max , com motor 1.0 turbo derivado Volksvaguen inscritos , com o Argentino Nicolas Cavigliasso, o campeão do Fia W2RC nos UTVs SSV , Yasir Seidan , com a pilota Saudita Dania Akel, a equipe fabrica em parceria com a Red Bull , terá o piloto Português Gonçalo Ferreira com o navegador Brasileiro Cadu Sachs.

Tomás de Gavardo probó la moto que usará en el Rally de Marruecos en la Baja TT Capital dos Vinhos de Portugal

Satisfecho con haber sumado más kilómetros arriba de la KTM 450 Rally que usará en el Rally de Marruecos quedó el piloto chileno Tomás de Gavardo. El nacional compitió en la Baja TT Capital dos Vinhos de Portugal obteniendo un 14° puesto buscando la experiencia clave para un desafío internacional importante en su carrera en el rally raid, la fecha del Mundial de Cross Country FIM en Marruecos.

“La idea de competir en el Nacional de Bajas de Portugal fue para calibrar la KTM 450 Rally con la cual correré en Marruecos, ponerla a punto y que fuera un entrenamiento intenso, como lo fue correr el sábado en un terreno agreste y este domingo bajo la lluvia y sobre el barro. Y como es la misma moto, también la cuidé. Todo se cumplió, más allá del resultado” comentó de Gavardo, que integrará el equipo del portugués Mario Patrao en Marruecos, con quienes también realizó este evento en Portugal.

El vencedor del evento fue el local Miguel Castro con un tiempo de  3:56:45 mientras que Tomás de Gavardo anotó un  4:38:25 para el 14° puesto después de dos días de intensa competencia.

El equipo de Tomás de Gavardo ya se encuentra en Portugal para realizar un shakedown hoy en el desierto luego de abordar el ferry desde Almería a Nador a principios de semana. La prueba comenzará el 8 de octubre con un prólogo para dar paso a 5 pesadas etapas de desierto desde el 9 al 13 de octubre. Será el primer evento de Tomás en el Mundial de Cross Country FIM fuera de Chile, donde ha competido en ediciones anteriores del Atacama Rally, válidas por este campeonato.

You can see how strangely clean the focus is... in a much-needed return to this blog's roots, and as an antidote to all motorsport- and life-related chaos, i now present to you: the first edition of em's favorite retro rally videos!

general disclaimer/info: these videos mainly come from the group B era of the world rally championship (wrc), which generally speaking was in the '80s. i am only human, so expect a lot of bias toward my personal favorites...which will become very apparent as you read this list hehe. also i'm not even gonna pretend to be an expert on this or anything. a lot of these are literally just based on Vibes

i. my top 5 rally coverage videos

in which my bias toward audi sport, mouton/pons, mikkola, toivonen, and vatanen are put on blast for all to see 🥴 i am not an expert in anything i am just very good at research and a whore for aud—[SNIPED]. for the sake of brevity, i narrowed my favorites down to 5. maybe another time i will share all the rest!

also, a general note about the commentary: sometimes, the commentary around michèle and fabrizia can get... weird. keep in mind, they were the most prominent female team partnership around that time, and the first to nearly clinch a wrc wdc, and to modern ears, the commentators really didn't know how to act around them. personally, it wasn't horrible for me, i just ignored the weirder bits, but i understand if others might find it off-putting. also for the sake of your sanity don't read the comments.

5. Rally of the 1000 Lakes, 1984 | finland

comments: this was definitely a rally for most of audi sport's drivers to forget: bar stig blomqvist, who came quite close to the podium finishers with a 4:14:01 to henri toivonen's 4:12:57! both hannu mikkola and michèle mouton had to retire from the race, which may lead you to wonder: why does this rank among my favorites? well, it's always fun to watch group b rally cars sailing through the air against picturesque scenery, and this video also contains an intriguing (at least for me!) look at the scrutineering process, with drivers at their most casual.

comments: hannu winning by 11 whole minutes even after rolling his car in the middle of the forest is actual legend behavior! anyway this was michèle's first wrc outing in britain, and even though she and fabrizia had to retire, they still did quite well, consistently running high in the leaderboards after the first few stages. and that's considering the fact that michèle had a bad cold for much of the rally and had to ask fabrizia to drive the car to service park for her at one point bc she was so tired. which fabrizia did... with a pencil in her mouth. lot of big names in one video—also, jean todt makes an appearance as a co-driver!

3. Marlboro Safari Rally, 1983 | kenya

comments: ok can i just say how stunning the video presentation is?? the opening sequence is just!!! the shots of the wildlife! the sprinting giraffes! wow! anyway the visual of drivers in deck chairs just tickles me for no reason, and michèle please tell me what you ask for at the hairdresser's and also where you got that orange blouse (this is obviously not just specific to this rally, she always eats and leaves no crumbs). this was michèle's first entry and only finish in kenya (and of course it was a podium mwah). it was also her last wrc entry in the A1 quattro, as she switched to the A2 for the rest of her program in the '83 season. also this is one of my favorite podium pictures ever.

lksdjffnnkd there's almost too much to unpack... fabrizia somehow surviving in high waist jeans in a hot car... michèle's do-it-yourself shorts... this podium picture was the subject of a very frantic video chat conversation between myself and a friend at 2am a few months ago

comments: GOD I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH AAAA! michèle's first podium of '82 being a win? this rally being the one where there's footage of her going shopping with fabrizia afterward? (more on that later) them winning by 13 whole minutes? and that's not even considering THEE most poetic victory ceremony of all time! in fact let me talk about that bc the racing and the win aside, that's why it's so high up on my list! literally poetic cinema! it's night, they're standing on top of the car and floodlit and surrounded by cheering crowds but they may as well be the only ones there in their own little world, laughing at each other and barely even having to look to each other when they're raising their hands—like god! shut up! we get it you're besties 😭

comments: firstly, if you were to ask me about my dream podium, this would be it. hands down, across all series of motorsport, my comfort podium would be hannu, michèle, and henri in any order. (there's such a cute picture of them from this rally on pinterest, standing in order on a staircase. henri is not looking at the camera because he is laughing at something michèle is saying and it's such a Vibe but i cannot find it wah). the battle for second between michèle and henri ran down to literally the last stage, and their times are separated by seconds, which is just wild to me. the context of this rally deserves another post, which i honestly don’t have the energy to make rn, but just take my word for it that it threatens to destroy me if i think about it too hard! anyway this is just such an awesome rally and i’ve watched this video so many times haha

i love this rally so much that i actually had a character in a story i was writing attend the ceremony captured in this picture as a small child and made it a formative moment in her life. no, there is nothing wrong with me.
