that "sometimes retail workers are the problem" post going around annoys me so much cause it's like yeah of course someone can have a retail job and be a massive cunt and it's obviously shitty if they're mean to a customer who did nothing wrong i think we can all agree but there is quite a difference between someone being at work - usually working minimum wage - and being treated badly by customers when they can't leave all while knowing that even defending themselves could lead to losing their job and means of staying alive and like. being in a store and suffering the horrors of a mean cashier. you still have the power there anyways cause if you complain to a manager you might even get that Awful Mean Person fired. like

It's really funny being a fan of star wars and star trek because you can talk about it to anyone and 90% of people will have at least a passing familiarity with it and sometimes a little old lady in her 80s will correct you with her encyclopedic knowledge of out of print books published between 1978 and 1994.

It aggravates every single one of my health issues from circulation to digestion to migraines.

It's not a willpower problem, my body will not adjust no matter how many days in a row I force it to wake up at a "reasonable" hour, it just builds until I crash and burn.

Just let me do the evening shifts that no one else wants. I don't understand why people want to flip flop between those and mornings anyway

I'm so sorry about your job. Losing out to automation really fucking sucks. I know it doesn't help much now but fairly soon a lot of those companies will be finding out that AI is not a good enough replacement for humans and so those roles will be opening up again. I hope you find something to bridge the gap soon. Just remember that you're waay better at what you do than any AI and hopefully when those companies come crawling back you can demand a wage increase from them.

thank you for your kind words, they're truly appreciated. i'm trying really hard to stay positive and remind myself that things won't be like this forever, but it's just... difficult. the last time my life felt hopeful and like it was actually going somewhere was pre-pandemic, when i was studying for my master's degree - then covid hit and after that everything has just been going steadily downhill.

i hope you're right, and that things will improve; this is just one of those days where believing that feels like holding on to a cliff edge with my fingertips. praying that i will be able to make some sort of change, any change, before the year is out

I’m making this a tumblr post because all of my friends work in the service industry so I don’t want to text them and it feel like I’m bragging so:

this is the first Black Friday in 11 years that I haven’t had to work because I’m a 9-5 girly now and we’re closed and it’s so nice. Our thanksgiving involves 30+ people oh whom I know like 10 and it’s so overwhelming so to have the next day off the just veg out is wonderful 😭
