This is something I've seen plenty of reactors do when they react to this type of content and it's honestly not fair. There are some genuinely good storytellers who put so much hard work and effort into their projects all for it to be seen like THIS?! Sure, it's fun to make playful jokes every once in a while, but to disregard the story and/or miss the point of the audio entirely because it's not good enough for viewership so it's best to make fun of it for it's romantic qualities only can be really exhausting! People don't have to like this type of content, but they don't have to bring the whole community down by constantly posting media degrading their work! I'm very sorry to those who have been hurt regarding this type of behavior. It's never a good time when someone misunderstands your work and stoops to that level of trying to shame you in front of tons of people.

Popular YouTubers "reacting" to audio roleplay by trying to exaggerate how cringe they think it is fucking exhausts me man. Half the time they do Cinema Sins-style commentary but from this "what if I don't like beans" point of view of just refusing to suspend disbelief and roleplay as the listener character. The commentary is always them talking back at the audio like "uh, you're not my boyfriend, actually my boyfriend's name is Steven and he's in the living room right now" or just failing to accept the premise of the video they clicked on. Acting shocked when a character kisses them and going "UHHH WHY IS HE KISSING ME". It's because you clicked on a boyfriend ASMR video tagged [kissing], that's why. Don't be dense.

It feels like they want for it to be way more cringe than it actually is, so they put on this exaggerated display, or act shocked that an audio matches its premise. This shit would be like making a video called "Reacting to Horror Movies (try not to cringe)" and being like "UHHH WHY IS THE KNIFE GUY STABBING PEOPLE???? I'M SO UNCOMFORTABLE". Man shut up. Then there's YouTubers reacting to videos that are very obviously ironic, absurdist humor and refusing to get that it's a joke. No, "Boyfriend Gets Hit By a Car [Spicy]" isn't actually supposed to be spicy, it's a joke.

These reaction videos are, for many outside of the niche, their only window into audio roleplays. Anything that has a plot that takes more than two minutes to understand is left out because they don't have the patience to watch the whole thing and only want to "react" to thirty-second clips. Anything that doesn't look like it'll make for good cringe bait is left out because they decided ahead of time that they want to cringe to it.

The whole medium is already so unfairly stigmatized and poorly understood by most people. It's so agonizing seeing this be our community's main source of free publicity. I know I've taken a few shots at cheap fluff boyfriend/girlfriend ASMR before but like, it's friendly jabbing from someone very much adjacent to them. I still understand the value that comfort roleplays have to their audiences, even if their plots aren't as deep. The whole medium-wide dismissal that these YouTubers give for some cheap reaction content on a newer medium they don't understand is actually the worst.

I need to make a video essay or something to act as propaganda for audio roleplays because the publicity we get passively could not be worse I swear to God.

People absolutely trashing and being hateful to CR need to read this snippet from Sam's interview about "The Legend of Vox Machina."

Just important to know the cast of CR had no idea the season was going to be renewed for S4! Hence why Bard's Lament was probably changed, why a lot was pushed into the ending and an almost "farewell" sort of ending was given to us. They did what they thought was best in case they weren't able to return!

I've seen people on here saying CR have no idea how to write their characters or respect their fans to tell the story "correctly" and have an obligation to because of the kickstarter campaign. Maybe take a step back and think of the other factors that may have had some involvement in the making of this season.

A couple weeks ago I shared a patreon for a Farscape recap podcast I really love (go sign up, Bizarre Podcast: Space Puppets is great!). Today I thought I'd call folks' attention to a video reaction channel currently doing a Farscape watch, Funny Lil Gal.

This lady is a big nerd who loves "space shit" and has just started Season 2 of Farscape. She's high energy, a little sarcastic, and very in love with Moya, Pilot, John and the rest of the crew. She likes to cry and jump and get emotional, and it's fun to share in her energy, excitement, anger, befuddlement as she watches for the first time.

For folks who hate it, I need to warn you that she watches the early Season 1 episodes in the wrong order, but she gets told this, so she doesn't switch the order, but she does account for it. I think it tints her feelings about some episodes, but it doesn't ruin anything. She definitely has different reactions to some episodes than what is typical for the fan base (she liked Jeremiah Crichton but not A Human Reaction!) but that's part of the fun of reaction channels, getting someone else's perspective.

She's a very positive reactor, she wants to love everything and enjoy the show, so no worries here about your favorite episode getting bashed. My personal delight is that she usually doesn't like main characters getting shipped together by the show, but she can't resist John/Aeryn and has already started complaining about "Farscape edging" as they let the characters come together, but only briefly before backing off. The show never wanted to be a "will they or won't they" thing, but the when and how sure was in doubt, and I think edging is the perfect term. I'm really really really looking forward to how she deals with the LATP episodes, coming up soonish.

New edited reaction episodes drop most Friday mornings, and the vids are well produced, very sharp and professional. Angela is a prolific reactor, mostly sci fi TV, so if you like her style, there's plenty of other reaction collections to enjoy while waiting for the next Farscape episode, like Dr. Who, BSG, and The Expanse. If, like me, you get impatient, or you want to put Farscape on and then see her reactions in real-time, she also has a patreon that I'll link below. I dunno if y'all are watching the "A Story Worth Telling" reaction vids for KinnPorsche, but I think they're a REALLY good illustration of why it's maybe not the BEST idea to start with KinnPorsche as someone's first BL series, unless they're already reading BL novels, danmei, yaoi or the like.

(And disclaimers here: I'm not saying that anyone would automatically LIKE KP if they're grounded in those things, nor am I saying that I expect reactors to like whatever BLs they're reacting to. Please read some nuance into this if you can.)

For the record, I'm not saying that these two lovely men at "A Story Worth Telling" would like KinnPorsche better if they understood where it was coming from, but I am saying -- gently! -- that as a reactor, if you're going to talk about the darkness of the SA and abuse that's in KP, you should understand where it comes from.

Josh and Alex (the two lovely British men, who I do enjoy watching mak mak!) are having a VERY normal reaction to the rep that's in KP. It is sexual assault/rape! It is a LOT of abuse heaped on Porsche and the other bodyguards. AND LET ME REPEAT: It is OKAY if they ultimately don't like the show because of that dark stuff! No one is required to like any piece of media simply because it is queer rep.

And I think if they had done their yaoi/BL homework a leeeeettle bit, and been able to say, look, we understand that KP is an example of a certain kind of yaoi/BL, and we still hate it, I'd have been much more comfortable with what they're saying.

I would also like to hear them acknowledge that this is a piece of media that they're watching that wasn't made for them! Yes it's queer, and yes it's available internationally and yes there is a legion of interfans who love it, but it's. not. for. us. We. are. guests. here.

Anyway, I've been feeling a little uneasy watching the vids, and I guess this is why.
