the "sign" of a game in combinatorial game theory is really its outcome class, meaning "for each player, what is the final outcome of this game if that player goes first and everyone is playing optimally?"

under normal play, there are two outcomes (Left wins or Right wins), and therefore four outcome classes.

"positive": Left wins no matter whose turn it is

"negative": Right wins no matter whose turn it is

"zero": whoever goes first loses

"fuzzy": whoever goes first wins

so, if you're talking about all games and not just numbers, two-player games already need more than two "signs"! however, only "positive" and "negative" are actual meaningful directions ("better for Left" and "better for Right"), and fuzzy games are distinctly not part of the surreal number line.

adding a third Center player makes things much more complicated.

the simplest way it could work conceptually would be for there to be exactly three possible outcomes: Left wins, Center wins, and Right wins. assuming the turn order is constant, there are twenty-seven outcome classes! (I'm using some ad hoc notation for this)

We don’t get babies (very very rare) on board because of the safety acts we have to do if anything happens on board - lifeboat drills, water emergencies and as daft as it sound pirate drills. (All safety measure for any possibility)

Yes toddlers but not babies. I think some companies like ourselves have an age limit, so norweigan must be good. But in summary, if they have gone on a ship with not a one year baby, that’s shit and proves how shit of an idea that is entirely.

Dr. Quartero's note #4 the A.P.R.O part 1

(Out of Character: Hey, just so you know, this entry is valid both for my comic Bright Blue Soul and my game The Anomaly Team as APRO, even if slightly different exists in both universes. Also yes, this is shamelessly inspired by SCP Foundation mythos)

Dr. Quatero here. Today, I will not be speaking of a single person or item, but an entire organization, the Anomaly Protection and Research Organization or APRO. The organization's origins are fuzzy at best. Despite being officially founded after the battle against the previous god of machines in 1807, now confidential reports reveal the organization has existed since at least the early 1700's. The founder is equally as mysterious, if he even exists, the elusive Administrator-0.

The organization's goal is officially to protect humanity from any anomaly or other existential dangers. They also study, develop, and produce a wide array of items, anything from civilian products to mass destruction weaponry.

APRO is also extremely politically and economically influential. They have contracts with every major military on the planet, even having some degree of influence over many governments, and they are also allied to the Quartero family. It is a little concerning how much power the organization has, but all investigations, including several from me, revealed no problematic actions. As long as they are on our side, I guess I shouldn't critique them too much.

The Organization is split into four main parts:

The International Anomaly Containment Operation or IACO also called the righteous right hand. IACO specializes in interventions, they're basically the muscles of the organization, taking care of the fieldwork. They include several hundred battalions of soldiers and specialized units ready to deal with anything from biological threats to reality warpers. They have extensive access to technology inaccessible by most of the public or the world's military like the F.F. portable reactors, the reality anchoring devices, and advanced artificial organs and limbs. Not only do they have a count of well-trained soldiers in the tens of thousands, they also possess tanks, fighter jets, missiles, and even a few nuclear weapons for last resort. The leader of this section of APRO is known as Administrator-1

The Internal Containment and Security Office or ICSO, sometimes called The left hand. ICSO is specialized in any internal security need. See them as the little brother of IACO, but instead of acting on the field, they keep entities contained and ensure that no military actions coming from the inside can hurt the organization. Take most of what I said for IACO, tone it down a little and you have the resume of what ICSO is. Their leader is Administrator-2

The Supply and Organization Wing or SOW, is sometimes called Red Heart. As the name may suggest they take care of organization and supplies. Hence why they are called the Heart, to some extent, the organization has been made to still function if one of its parts is destroyed, but SOW is probably the most important. APRO is an organization spanning across the globe, without an efficient administration and organization, it just couldn't work. They take care of most logistical needs, and also of industries controlled by APRO. Their leader is Administrator-4

The Research and Command Center or RCC, also called The Head That Knows. As its name may indicate, they are the head of the operations, and they also take care of research and observation. Their nickname comes from the fact that with their extensive amount of data, they know practically anything known to humanity. If you lost your keys this morning, they probably know where it is. Their leader is Administrator-3.

doctor told me what the hospital communicated to me was ocd was actually bpd okay cool. as i get older i realize more and more that psych is kind of just a bunch of venn diagrams and if you fall between the lines they just guess. and doctors are never very good at communicating what they're putting on my record. but it doesnt matter to me anymore ive had so many diagnosis over the years and some get retracted

(ocd twice, bpd once, some type of schizo once by a guy who saw me for 15 min as a teen, bipolar, they really cant figure out what makes me like this lol but when i was insured i got a lot of psych stuff done when i was a weird teen and those are all ones that the doctors have given and then taken)

and after being involved with psych for 20+ years it doesnt matter to me what label i have anymore ill just use the one they give me and do what i need to in order to feel good and live and love with other people well. anyways im weaning off lamotragine and hopefully going to get some other kind of therapy (though my main doc says theres not much i can do until i get insured + get regular income again if i already have a RCC even if its not working great) so we'll see where i go from here.

Wormville: Worms of gen 0, Part 1 (Beldine, Celwitch, Devir, Elaho-Inipp, Fiera)

It's finally time to introduce the first batch of my worms to you! It's the 24 founders. A few technicals:

some bios are written in present tense, some in the past. That's because I wrote it in relation to the first 10 rotations, and some of those Sims are still alive, some are not.

not all bios are created equal. You see, I created Wormville, played the first 6 rotations, then put it down because of time constraints, almost a year passed, and then I picked it up again. I unfortunately didn't take very thorough storyline notes, so for some poor bastards, I barely remember them.

the same goes for pictures. For some reason, I either wasn't taking screenshots at all, or I've lost them since. I have at least one screenshot for each Sim, but with most it is a shot of them standing still while I briefly resurrected them just to take that picture.

if you think about some of the family panels too much, you'll find that some combinations of Sims have procreated seemingly without adoptions or having (presumably) compatible reproductive capabilities. To that, my answer is that it's just a game. I derive a lot of fun out of "combining" my Sims and seeing which traits get passed down and what the progeny is like in comparison to the parents, so I've just set RCC to allow anyone to procreate with anyone. Equal opportunity pregnancy complications!

Clan Beldine

Bio: The primary owner of the Splat and a workaholic to his very core, Alastor loved his job. He was also extremely partial to his pottery wheel and adored his only daughter Beatrice. One thing Alastor definitely didn't like, though, was the chokehold of the church on everybody's privacy. He was a Follower of the Entity to the very end, but despised the incessant check-ups. He banned both Ace and Antoinette from entering the Splat for the time being, but not even that stopped them. At least he had his peace in his last hour, dying on his way home from work.

Sins and secrets: Before his death, Alastor fell out with his daughter Beatrice over her relationship with Bennett Jilleni, and threw her out of the house. He deeply regretted it almost immediately, but he couldn't swallow his pride for some time. When he was finally ready to apologize to Beatrice and start making amends, it was too late - he died the day he planned to visit her, heart heavy with guilt.

Bio: Being named after a god of war suits Ares well, for throughout his life, he was able to bring chaos and controversy wherever he went. Having left both Ace AND Aranni at the altar was remarkable in itself, but he didn't stop at breaking hearts – he proceeded to break the bank training cats for living and subsequently building a successful, fully feline-based empire. All that, and he never even had to move out of his brother's place!

While the only non-disgraced heir, Victor, was away for college, he paid Percy and Wynn Kent to live in the Splat for the time being and keep an eye out on Ares, in case he died of old age, making the family lose the house. In hindsight, it wasn't the greatest move. Featuring: Antoinette Gere, unbanned by Ares, Percy's mother and Ares' ex and life-long friend.

While Alastor got married, had a kid and spent his youth grinding career performance, Ares never rolled the want to get a job, took his time taking care of his cats, playing videogames and partying. However, several days before turning into an elder he rolled the want to join the business career, unexplainably skyrocketed through the corporate ladder and retired soon after from level 10, blowing Alastor out of the park and making worries about bills but a memory. Then he set the kitchen aflame and died.

Sins and secrets: Looking at Ares' number of engagements, you would think proposing/accepting proposals was a hobby for him. He would always say yes, throw a lavish engagement dinner, a wild bachelor party, and then leave the person at the altar. One day he however met his match in Antoinette Gere, who served him an uno reverse card and left him under the arch for once.

Bio: Aaron was always the most sensitive of the Beldines, and a genuinely kind Sim. Yes, he did cheat on Alastor, but who in Wormville didn't? Who knows what made Agatha nominate him as the second sacrifice. Was it a revenge for his feud with Alexis? Only one thing is for certain – Aaron is dead and the multigenerational mistrust and hatred between the Slop and the Splat began.

Note: The death type field in his card is wrong, he died of being sacrificed by Agatha.

Clan Celwitch

Bio: Aurelius was often called ruthless or oppressive, however he knew all too well what he really was – smart. He started out having to cope with sharing a claustrophobically small apartment with his husband, cats and young son, and successfully made it to afford his own house. He would go even further, he was sure he would, but no amount of street smarts and entrepreneurial spirit could stop the cold outbreak from taking his life. Apart from all that, Aurelius was a well-known dandy. A really sharp-looking bitch who would sell you overpriced groceries.

When I resurrected Aurelius to take a photo of him, I found this in his memories, and I wish I remembered what the fuck was happening back then. The only thing I know is that it was in between rounds and that I wasn't playing him at that time. Grocery store moment?

Secrets and sins: Aurelius was plotting Archer’s demise, but Archer died on his own before he could strike. Adalyn followed soon after. Aurelius still feels guilty for not getting her out sooner.

Bio: Adalyn has only signed up for about half of the things happening to her. With the strained relationship to her own child, and the harrowing realization about the nature of their father, her cheese-related nightmare seems like a slight inconvenience. At least she has her basketball to focus on…

Due to a clerical error, Adalyn had to change aspirations, and landed with Cheese as her primary for several days. In-universe it was a curse that she needed to break to return to normal.

Bio: Not much is remembered about Archer nowadays. He was energetic, sloppy and very hot-headed. Perhaps it was the hot-headedness that caused him to end up on several people's hit lists before the cold killed him. He wasn't doing too well anyway - only being crushed by a satellite had prevented his wife from leaving him and the cold also took the life of his firstborn son.

Sins and secrets: Usually, when Sims catch their partner cheating and they are mean and outgoing enough to go for the slap, I cancel the interaction. With Archer and Adalyn, I was too slow, and he hit her. It was the reason I was having them divorce before they died.

Bio:.Alfie definitely had one thing going for him: He could always keep it together. In his life, full of discomfort and restlessness, he was finding it hard to discover any purpose. Even his music felt like a temporary lie. His marriage to pedantic and overly ambitious Aurelius? A mistake. His son? A mistake. And yet, Alfie always kept it together. Always persisted. Until he ran afoul of Agatha…

Alfie consented to being a parent, but wasn't exactly stoked about it. After Aurelius's death, he tried to provide for Krystal, but wasn't entirely up to the task. He would be horrified to know that Ace, the local artist he hooked up with, gave birth to his daughter Hannah, but luckily for Alfie (and I can't believe I'm writing this), he was already freshly dead by then. His marriage to Aurelius also wasn't dreamy by far (even though Aurelius had no clue), however after his husband's death, Alfie found himself genuinely missing him.

Clan Devir

Bio: Archibald was a very young, freshly ordained, unimportant priest when the Tragedy happened. Being the only clergy member that survived the massacre, his status shifted overnight. He led the group of survivors to Wormville, oversaw building of the temple and tried his best to pose as the high priest he became. It was mostly his insistence for the earliest worm-built buildings to lean into a rather outwardly occult aesthetic, and his lack of funds why it didn't really work out. His detractors criticized him not only for his inexperience and false grandeour but also his vulnerability to temptation. He never had the time to prove them wrong, though. During the outbreak of the 3rd rotation, Archibald foresaw his death and decided not to prevent it. He got infected and died, believing that his compliance could persuade the Entity to heal the rest of the sick.

Note: The web-like facepaint Archibald wore is the mark of a worm cleric, and all priests before him and after him wore the same.

Sins and secrets: Despite openly stating on several occassions that he will strive to lead by example and promote much less deceit in the community, his Romance Sim proclevities caught up to him more than once and he found himself giving into the temptations of the flesh. Amanda found out and they had a falling out, however Archibald was genuinely remorseful for his infidelity and she forgave him before their deaths.

Bio: Counting among one of the kindest and least treacherous founders of Wormville, Amanda had to grow a strong backbone to survive her neighbors' antics. She was a woman of the land, an apt fisherwoman (her fascination with fish made for a decent career) and a solid farmer. She loved children and wanted to fill her house with their laughter. After suffering several miscarriages, she finally had twins Felicia and Elphius. Her satisfaction was, however, short-lived, for the cold outbreak that was foretold to kill her husband swept her away as well.

Bio: Avery, unlike his older brother, never had any occultist ambitions. What he aspired to do instead, was raise a big family and fish in his free time. How true was the big family bit about to come, he had no idea. In a blink of an eye, suddenly his brother was no more and Avery found himself raising his two children on top of the 4 he already had with Audrey. Moreover, he had to step up as the new priest, a role he grew into, but struggled with at the beginning. Under Avery's leadership, a magnificent Temple reconstruction was carried out, and he was also the one overseeing Agatha's resurrection ritual.

Family vacation! Featuring Avery with almost all of his children (+ his daughter in law Mina). Sure, it would be better if all 6 were there, and I'm NOT saying that I forgot Zachary home by accident that time, but there are 6 of them, so it's no wonder I might've forgotten Zachary home that one time. You would've, too.

Sins and secrets: Avery often gets compared to Archibald - usually positively, especially since the latter died very soon after a large adultery scandal. However, that praise isn't really warranted. Avery was only slightly better than his brother in not getting caught. And his lover? A fellow family Sim, Aaron Beldine.

Bio: One of the most quietly influential people in the community, friendly and agreeable Audrey always has a joke to make, a supportive comment to say. She's one of the least controversial of the founders, and you'd be hard-pressed to find any enemies of hers. Still, not all is smiles and rainbows. Even though she loved her husband Avery, in truth, her heart belonged to someone else, and that is hard for her to make peace with…

I love the way TS2 animates cats. Featuring: Broomer, the sister to Mirp

Note: Audrey has maxed out the Entertainer career, but I didn't like calling her "Audrey the Entertainer," so I thought of what kind of entertainer she even is. The problem is that throughout that career, your Sim basically does all kinds of performing arts, sooo... What is a kind of performance that can encompass, and often does encompass, all that? Drag! And she gave me more of queen than king vibes. Too bad I didn't have the time to dress her up in a stage outfit...

Sins and secrets: All throughout her life, Audrey has had a passionate secret affair with her best friend whom she met at work. Now that Avery is dead, she's still struck with guilt, but might finally be able to make her relationship with her girlfriend official.

Clan Elaho-Inipp

Bio: Agatha is the last one of the Inipp family who have basically financed the cult for generations. When the Tragedy struck and she found herself among the few survivors, there wasn't much out of her family's fortune left to save. Proud and stubborn, she has built the Slop to support both the bohemian community within the cult and the illusion of still being fabulously wealthy, while she does all she can just to keep the Repoman out of the premises. Since then, Agatha has proven many times over to be a devout occultist and a bona fide weirdo.

Sins and secrets:

Agatha bore witness to her child dying very young, and decided to pay the bloody price to bring them back, as per the cult's ancient tradition. Few know this, although the family of one of the victims has a good hunch.

Actually, that's not true. Agatha didn't do it just once, she did it twice. She chose two victims to sacrifice and demanded back also Alexis, one of her partners. That however doesn't have the same ring as "she did all that for her young child."

Bio: Alexis is an artist and a popular gaming streamer. She's kind, a little strange, and soft-spoken. When not behind a screen, she's often too shy to even speak, unless you're her sibling Alexei, or Agatha. That was, however, before the night the Slop's front garden and the nearby road caught on fire. The fire was devastating, long and deadly. Alexis succumbed to the flames. Despite Agatha raising hell and bringing her back, Alexis carries its mark. She has never been the same. Nowadays she prowls the community spaces, picking fights and igniting disdain.

Sins and secrets: People speculate that the relationship between the Elaho twins isn't all it seems – and that's just a malicious rumor. Or is it?

Bio: Alexei is one of the two twin artists who found patronage with their rich lover, Agatha. The affluent heiress invited Alexei and Alexis into her clan as equals, even took their surname and hyphenated it with hers. Alexei likes to call themselves an unserious bohemian and a taboo breaker. It's usually them who hosts the season get-togethers. They claim to see what others cannot. That is, though, when they don't shut themself in their room, falling into deep depression. They maintain, however, that they need no help, for their suffering inspires their art.

Sins and secrets: People speculate that the relationship between the Elaho twins isn't all it seems – and that's just a malicious rumor. Or is it?

Clan Fiera

Bio: Don’t let her frilly pastel decor and other aesthetic choices fool you. While Aranni is not the priest (thank the Entity she's not), in more than one regard she could as well be. There probably isn’t any other worm that commands such respect. A no-nonsense matriarch, Aranni doesn't suffer disobedience or imperfection. Her approach doesn’t just extend to her subordinates and enemies, but also to her family. Understanding that, it becomes debatable whether her iron fist just failed to prevent her children from becoming either unruly or estranged, or whether it has directly caused it.

An afternoon fire-side council: Aranni took family to the mountains to toughen up. Iulius is probably off the frame obediently practicing his axe throw, and Aranni II. is... also present.

Sins and secrets:

Aranni, while presenting herself as a mother first, general second, isn't all that great at being the former. It's abundantly clear she plays favorites – namely her firstborn Iulius over both her daughters, especially Aranni II., who committed the “sin” of not being athletic enough, plus – similarly to Iulius – had a teenage pregnancy “scandal,” which Aranni forgave way easier in Iulius's case.

To the surprise of nobody, Aranni's militia is laced with corruption, as she willfully uses Ashley's "assets" to empower herself, and protects his crime empire, only cracking down on his rivals.

Bio: Ashley might not be as influential as his wife, but he's doubly as unscrupulous and cruel. Ashley and Aranni work extremely well together, him holding a significant (and very lucrative) position in the criminal underworld and her using their resources to bolster the militia’s firm grasp on the settlement, while shielding many criminals from justice. When at home though, whatever can be called Ashley's gentle side shines through - he does all he can to be a supportive father. What more is there to say? Aside from being a major wife guy and a public threat, Ashley enjoys loudly playing videogames in his son's bedroom (when said son is trying to sleep).

Watch out, Ashley! Behind you!

Fun fact! Ashley is one of the only 2 worms of gen 0 who are monogamous and survived into the elderhood without cheating on their spouse not even once. (the other one being Adora Anora)

Ashley hates Aranni's best friend Ares Beldine with burning passion and wishes death on him - in fact, the only reason he didn't try to kill him are Aranni's feelings and the stability of their marriage. It's all because Ares and Aranni used to be a couple, she met him before Ashley, and it was Ares who in the end broke up with her, so it makes Ashley and terrified that deep inside Ares means more to his wife than him.

Ashley once purposefully spread cold around the neighborhood, out of bitterness that it was only his family who had to suffer. It was the outbreak that killed Josephine Hanson, his son's beloved girlfriend. Oopsie.

That would be all for now! (for now) I hope you liked these worms (or disliked them, at the very least)! There's still more where that came from - this is only 16/24, 8 didn't fit. What else had to be pushed into another post were bonus stats, fun facts and memes. (Perhaps. Not promising anything, but I would like to make some.) I'm also thinking about making a series of polls where you could vote for your favorite and least favorite worm from every generation. Is that cringe? That might, I'm afraid, be cringe, but alas, that comes with being free. I'll do it.

ruh roh raggy. questioning my purpose and realizing catholicism told me explicitly that my purpose was to know, love, and serve God since I was six years old. I had that memorized.

perhaps I could use that root though. God to me is the World and All Her Creatures and Objects. My family, my friends, the strangers, my cat, the fat possum my boyfriend took a video of, my houseplants, myself

Maybe catholicism was right that we are called (or at least I am - purpose is personal) to know, to love, and to serve God. But instead of God being a ghost puppet of the Roman Catholic Church, God is in us and around us.

I'm called to know my neighbors, the history of my city, how the stoplights work, the anatomy of the human body. I am called to love all people, places, and things that surround me. And I am called to serve them - helping my neighbor, preserving the Earth, taking good care of my possessions and money

This is the new To Know, To Love, To Serve and to me this comes as naturally as breathing. Because the RCC tried to repress this part of me by pigeonholing God into their catechism, priests, and church. Yes, those are still part of God. But not anymore than the sparrows, the bread I make, the Papa John's pizza delivery boy, and I myself are God.

The Universe is one and many, and it dances with itself. The Earth is our mother and our daughter.
