Ok just finished Adventuring Party.

It's so interesting to me the way Danielle was talking about how she felt bad for Sam because nobody takes her seriously not even Danielle (her actress) and she wanted to honor or give space to what that must feel like.

I'm sure Danielle was exaggerating for the sake of her point (I think she's put a lot of thought and effort into playing Sam) but even though I completely understood that fear as Sam voiced it and it fit how Danielle was playing her, I take Sam so seriously.

Sam talked three (maybe four?) ancient demons into leaving her friends body after a lifetime of them tormenting him, she's so incredibly charming that it's a running bit that ancient magical creatures respond to her (very casual) greetings in turn, she's a person who understands other people so well and is at the centre of all of these social dynamics!

And then Brennan mentioned how lonely it must be to make everyone around you feel like they're special but have people take no notice of your interiority, your pains and fears and needs.

Not only that, because you make everyone feel special, everyone assumes that's a reflection of your feelings about them, that you're light shines out around you like a halo and so of course they feel warmed by it without even noticing that you have left a space for them to shine back at you.

i'm hopeful about the new d20 and will give it a chance, but it is a little frustrating seeing a mostly cis cast return to a setting that is ultimately an intentional harry potter parody. the "fuck terfs" stuff in the official art never sat right with me because it felt tongue in cheek performative in a way that made me uncomfortable. like "as long as we say the right things we can still harry potter guys!!"

i think i'd feel different if erika weren't the only openly trans person in the cast (last i remember) - but i digress. i'm hopeful that they'll move in a more generalized magic school direction and divorce from the hp parody all together.

i love the cast and characters and aabria is a wonderful dm, i just think they can do something more original and hope they do so, especially since they made another new system for it, yk?

Slightly Spoilery MisMag 2 Finale Vent below

FIRST OFF, I KNOW THIS IS PEDANTIC, DONT COME FOR ME

I'm catching up on the finale, and I am so deeply frustrated by the fact that Danielle just breaks her items and then raw dogs the total with straight motes for her FIRST ROLL. Like, the mechanics completely go out the window. It feels like, at the very least, she should've broken the selfie stick, used that 10 and gotten to twenty and then rolled her magic die again when it exploded, and that's ASSUMING that her magic die was at a d20.

This happened last episode too, I can't entirely remember what she broke, but she broke something and just wasted all her motes on supplementing what she needs to meet the DC instead of just blowing up her closest die and rerolling. And it just feels like a squandering of her resources in a way that the game was quite literally structured to preserve.

And, like, I know Danielle is just human, and to be honest it's gotta be hard to play using a new system in a high stakes moment all alone, so I am not at all judging her for it. How could I when she looks so fucking good and is delivering sooo much in this scene? I just...

I'm not sure what species of bat he would be but I imagine hes palm sized, enough to grab him, which happens often because he usually transforms when he is scared or stressed.
