📖 Myth & Sacred Scripture 📖
In Hellenic Polytheism and Mesopotamian Polytheism (and others but I don't want to speak for them) there is no sacred scripture where the words of a God are given to a myth writer and that writing is then declared holy by some form of religious authority.
The idea that myths are the literal actions of the Gods come from a concept of sacred scripture. Sacred meaning the words have holy implications or they have a fundamentally important connection to the divine. This understanding of religious writings is demonstrated in:
Protestant Christianity where the Bible is divinely inspired (usually derived from 1 Timothy 3:16 & 2 Peter 1:12). Additionally, in Trinitarian Christianity Jesus is God making his words in the Gospels the literal words of God.
Islam where the Quran are the words of God given to Mohammad via the angel Gabriel over the course of his life.
Judaism where traditionally the written Torah are the words of God given to Moses at Mt Sinai.
**There are more examples but I'm not going to try and talk about something I did not study.
This pervasive idea of scripture being the words of God embeds itself into a general view of what religion supposedly is because:
Christianity is the largest religion in the world.
Christianity is the dominant religion in English speaking countries, so when we have these discussions in English it tends to have that cultural Christian viewpoint.
Islam is the second largest religion in the world.
Islam considers the Jewish and Christian scriptures to also be given from God, but they have been corrupted in one way or another. This combination can put a mistaken emphasis on sacred scripture being a fundamental aspect of religion.
Even though Judaism is a very small religion the the written Torah is considered part of the Christian Old Testament (first five books). Christians interpret the scripture completely differently but the idea of Moses receiving the Word of God at Mt Sinai continues into Christianity from Judaism.
In many "dead religions" the closest you can come to the "words of the gods" might be the writings of ancient oracles or those who communed directly with spirits & gods. However, in Greece and Mesopotamia there was no centralized religion or continuous tradition to overview and canonize them into sacred scripture. Additionally, those are not usually what people are talking about when they refer to myth.
Myth is extremely important, but mythic literalism is a misstep people make, often due to our preconceived notions of sacred scriptures and their connection to the divine.

"The Palestine Red Crescent Society released an audio recording of one of the phone calls made by 5-year-old Hind Rajab to the society. In the recording, a member of the society read the Quran with Hind in an attempt to calm her fear.
Hind Rajab was found dead last week nearly two weeks after she was trapped in a car with her dead relatives and surrounded by Israeli forces"

Afghan women are forbidden from praying loudly or reciting the Quran in front of other women, according to a Taliban government minister.
It’s the latest restriction on women following morality laws that ban them from raising their voice and baring their faces outside the home. They are already excluded from education after sixth grade, many public spaces and most jobs.
Nobody from the Vice and Virtue Ministry was immediately available Wednesday to clarify the official’s remarks or confirm if the prohibition would also become part of the morality laws.
During an event in eastern Logar province on Sunday, Vice and Virtue Minister Khalid Hanafi said: “It is prohibited for a grown woman to recite Quranic verses or perform recitations in front of another grown woman. Even chants of takbir (Allahu Akbar) are not permitted.”
He said that uttering similar expressions like “subhanallah,” another word central to the Islamic faith, was also not allowed. A woman was not permitted to perform the call to prayer, he told the gathering. “So, there is certainly no permission for singing.”
Audio of Hanafi’s remarks was shared on the ministry’s social media platforms but was later deleted.
The ministry said Tuesday that a nationwide awareness program about the laws is underway involving ministry officials at provincial and district levels.
“Organizing such programs will contribute to shaping public perception and increasing awareness of divine rulings,” the ministry added.
Afghan provinces are already barring the media from showing images of living things, another controversial and widely criticized feature of the morality laws.
The Taliban set up the ministry for the “propagation of virtue and the prevention of vice” after seizing power in 2021.
Since then, the ministry has enforced decrees issued by the Taliban leadership that have a disproportionate impact on women and girls, like dress codes, segregated education and employment, and having a male guardian when they travel.

Allahumma irhamnaa bil Quran 😭😭😭

EMERGENCY!!!
PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU'RE ABLE TO EVEN A DOLLAR HELPS
I've been wrongfully forced out of the abusive transitionary home called Sakina House in Hamtramck, MI under Muslim Family Services and ICNA RELIEF. They are extremely abusive, threatening, and cruel. I have tons of emails, audios, videos, etc documenting their abuses towards me and the other women in that house. It's genuinely terrifying that they claim being Muslim while actively doing everything against the Quran.
They are even threatening a homeless woman there who just need someone to pay to renew her greencard, and they're threatening to kick her out if she doesn't get that done. So that's 4 homeless women at minimum abused and threatened by this organization that made us believe we were getting help and safety which was a lie.
She's literally the sweetest, kindest nurse, and if they do kick her out and I'm able to raise money to stay past Tuesday in this motel room, I'll ask her to stay with me because that's how much I care about these women in comparison to this "Muslim nonprofit". She would literally be on the streets in below freezing temperatures in Michigan. That's the depth of their cruelty. It's unfathomable.
She told me that as I was crying trying to get my belongings out of that house. In their document kicking me out, it states that I have an entire week to get my belongings out. But when I showed up to get the rest of it yesterday, they changed the code to get into building and CHANGED THE LOCK TO MY ROOM DOOR ULTIMATELY TAKING HOSTAGE OF MY OWN NECESSARY BELONGINGS. It's absolutely cruel and insane. I was not informed of any of this, and as far as I'm told, it has never been done before.
I just wanted to get my belongings and never deal with speaking to or with these demons at this organization ever again, but their cruelty and abuses won't even allow me that sort of peace.
I have literally no money left. THANK YOU IMMENSELY TO ISABELLE WHO HAS BEEN THE MOST KIND D0NAR ON HERE AND THE ONLY REASON I WAS ABLE TO GET THIS MOTEL ROOM ON THE 27TH WHEN I GOT KICKED OUT. All day, I called every where I could to get help, but because they purposely kicked me out the night before Thanksgiving, all the already strained community resources and nonprofits have not been available to help me at all. I looked at my P4y.Pal at 1 am and saw that Isabelle donated to me $200 and I burst into tears because that's exactly what I needed I used all I had to get this motel room until Wednesday morning.
I don't even have money for food, water, hygiene products, gas, phone and internet bills, let alone another week in this motel room. I need to raise at minimum 375 for another week in this room and then if I can pay for that, whatever is left will go to those other life essentials. PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU ALL IF YOU'RE ABLE TO HELP OR KNOW SOMEONE THAT CAN HELP ME, PLS EVEN A DOLLAR HELPS SO MUCH
Please support them on tiktok!! @/theworldindigenousrevolt

I've found this great app, and I wanna share it with y'all. It's called:
Salam App: Muslim Companion.
The app is developed by a team based in Canada. They do this work as a form of charity for the greater good of the Umma, entirely for free. I for one think this is highly commendable and I pray that inshallah the developers will recieve many blessings for their deed.
Beside that: the app does A LOT! And it looks nice as well.
For starters, there are all the basics like qibla finder, prayer times corresponding to your location and reminder notifications. Adding to that, there's entire Holy Quran with three commentaries, all major hadith collections, a lot of dua, dhikr and other materials.
Sure, but a lot of other apps has these as well I hear you say. True. What set's "Salam App: Muslim companion" apart is it's high level of technical and scholarly qualities together with high customisability.
For example, Holy Quran can by displayed and read in multiple arabic fonts, with or without transcription and/or translation, with or without a commentary. Any hadith can be easily accesed from the same app, prayer related things are madhab-adjustible, and all this and more offline, ready in your phone. Oh, and did I mention audio Quran? Because they have audio version now as well.
Controls are intuitive, visuals are beautiful and adjustible as well, and there's active development and technical support.
I think that anyone, muslim or a non-muslim interested in (and inshallah on their way to conversion to) Islam can highly benefit from this app. Even if you don't utilize the prayer features, it can serve you as a compact and a potent resource for your studies of Holy Quran and hadith.
Let's bring this amazing work to more people, and spread the word of Allah. It is dawah and a commendable deed. Please reblog this or share the app directly, so more people can benefit from it!
Alhamdulillah, Subhanallah.

‼️🇵🇸💚 “It’s a matter of steadfastness from God”, A speech from Dr. Suheib Al Hams to his medical team as Israel invades Rafah
[Plain text: “It’s a matter of steadfastness from God”, A speech from Dr. Suheib Al Hams to his medical team as Israel invades Rafah]
🔸 Sources: eye on Palestine, abdallah_alattar1999, translating_falasteen
[Video and audio description: The video shows Doctor Suheib Al Hams speaking to his medical team outside of the Al Kuwaiti Hospital. The caption in the video reads “A message of steadfastness and steadfastness from Dr: Suhaib Al-Hams to the medical staff working in Kuwait Hospital after the occupation's demands to evacuate the only working hospital in the city of Rafah.”. Above this, text in Arabic which reads the same. Doctor Suheib Al Hams is speaking in Arabic, and his words are being translated in the center of the screen in English. He says:
“Let’s stick together and keep each other steadfast. No one can deny that we are all afraid, but steadfastness comes from God. Read the Quran and pray to God. “Nothing will happen in God’s domain except what He wills.” It’s not a matter of preaching, it’s a matter of steadfastness from God. May God keep us all steadfast, and I’m not leading you towards death, I’m not leading anyone towards death, there is a hospital we are preparing as an alternative, when it is ready, I will move a part of the staff there, but this is the only refuge available for people, there is nowhere else for them to go. Sadly there’s nowhere else for them to go.
We are working with the most basic facilities but we are saving lives. May God keep us all steadfast. Keep one another steadfast and til the last moment, as I said, I will evacuate you with ambulances. I am in touch with the World Health Organization, they have medical missions here, if they sensed danger, they would have evacuated them. I consulted with the Red Cross, they would have advised us to evacuate. Even the occupation said not to evacuate medical teams in Al-Kuwaiti, but regardless I’m telling you brothers, they cannot be trusted. They’ve not respected either Al-Nasser or Al-Shifa [medical complexes]. That’s why I’m telling you, we need to remain steadfast till the last moment.
There is nowhere else to go. May God keep us steadfast together. Let’s stick together and keep one another steadfast. No one can deny that we are all afraid, but steadfastness comes from God, and until the last moment, one must make a stand, those who left have the whole system down, there’s nowhere for people to go. People are dying in the streets. When we have an alternative place for you and the patients to get treated, God willing, that’s when we will vacate in an orderly manner, God willing. When you see supplies leaving the hospital, it’s us providing food and drink for the new hospital and equipment for the hospital. We are staying here resolute until the last moment, God willing. And I am staying here with you, my brothers. I am not taking risks or treating the matter carelessly. I am not putting your lives at risk.”
End Description.]
