the isolation of still being in christian spaces (without a choice) and knowing you do not believe is... insane, honestly, something i wish more people knew about. because its not just being in church that feels isolating, it extends to the outside world.
anyone you talk to in your church obviously doesnt understand you. you constantly need to police your words around them to avoid saying something "sinful" or anything that can be read as liberal in any way. the mask must stay on at all times, and then when you're away from that space, you need to slowly adjust and become yourself again, somehow.
and in secular spaces, people just dont get it. which isnt always their fault! its just hard to explain to people who mean well, why "ill pray for you" sets you off and makes your heart race and makes you shudder. "why dont you love your family?? not even your sibling? damn." you see a coworker wearing a shirt with a bible verse on it, and run through several calculations in your head, none of them ending up anywhere because you distance yourself from said coworker, even though you know you should be talking to them before coming to conclusions. "hey, please stop talking about (criticizing) religion, its a bit of a controversial topic here. hope all that church stuff gets better soon though!" your friends do not understand what you are venting about, though they try their hardest.
you try so hard to find people who have left religions and/or cults in the real world. all you seem to be finding are people who are still in them, or people who have never come close to having an experience you have.
not to mention this all becomes approximately 100 times worse if you're queer.

“You dont want kids? I said the same thing at your age. You’ll realize later.”
“You’re trans? You’re too young to know that. You’ll grow out of it.”
“You’re an atheist? You don’t actually disbelieve, you’re just mad at god. One day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess.”
“You’re a leftist? You’ll become more conservative eventually; every generation does when they come into contact with The Real World™️”
“You’re gay/ace/queer? You just havent met the right man/woman yet.”
If you say any of the above things give me your personal information so i can harm you
edit: the terfs found this post. Y’all fuckin KNOW “give me your personal information” is a joke. I know your job is to paint trans people as evil and stuff but try harder at least, we know you’re not that stupid.
anywaysy crazy how u guys r aligning with people who like theocracy and homophobia and heteronormity just because you hate trans people. It’s almost like you, my fellow hoes, are really damn predictable.
Edit 2: i love how after that first edit terfs mysteriously stopped interacting

Yeah yeah religious trauma and internalized homophobia suck but sometimes I get these moments of overwhelming joy at the fact that I am queer and proud I am not religious anymore I have a life ahead of me where I can celebrate pleasure and love and intellectual freedom without constraint like fuck yeah this is what I'm sticking around for!!!!!!!

the seven deadly sins are such bullshit fear tactics. if youve left the church, embrace them.
be proud of who you are. be happy when you look in the mirror and see how hot you are. yeah i see you flexing in the mirror after a workout. nice progress btw honey you look nice today.
dont worry about getting seconds, or thirds even, at dinner. dont worry about eating what society says is "too much" or "too little". eat until youre full. set aside what you cant finish for later so you dont waste food.
its okay to be greedy. its okay to want things for yourself. sometimes we see things that people have and we're like "dude i wish i had that." thats just human. envy and greed on that level are normal.
take a rest day. dont bother going to church this sunday. take a shower, read a book, drink some tea, eat some good food, pet a cat or dog. take care of yourself; its not lazy.
be angry with those who wronged you. punch a punching bag, write about how much you hate them, go work out aggressively and take care of your emotions in a way that doesnt hurt yourself or others. its okay to not forgive the people who hurt you. you arent doing anything wrong, babe.
embrace your sexuality (or, if it applies, asexuality, cause yall need love too). stop feeling shame for wanting pleasure. go read or watch something that turns you on. explore your body. ask your partner to try something new. if youre asexual, then fucking step on the people who say you need to have sexual attraction to be human. you dont. you dont need to be allosexual (or alloromantic) to "qualify as a human." we all experience life in different ways. find your way to experience it.
thought crime isnt real
do no harm but take no shit

I fucking hate being like this.
Why can't I be cishet able-bodied and neurotypical? Or at the very least, why can't I be accepted in society as someone who isn't?
And people ask me why I don't believe in a God.

every time i see someone exclude, mock or ignore queer religious people's existence (whether from bigoted religious people or bigoted queer people) i think it should be perfectly acceptable for us to punch them in the face for that

So I reported this asshole and IP blocked them, for their intense and blatant antisemitism, but I'm screenshotting and posting this ask because it's a perfect example of what I talked about here: [Link] on my other blog.
I am really open about being an atheist. I am of course really open about being Jewish. I frequently talk about the two in conjuction, and when I talk about Christian cultural hegemony in atheist spaces and antisemitism in atheist spaces, I am talking as a Jewish atheist. But the first thing any gentile atheist who doesn't want to think about antisemitism and Christian cultural hegemony does, is erase my atheism and paint me as the outsider religious person attacking atheists.
And the same thing happens when queer Jews bring up antisemitism in the queer community. Our queerness is erased, and it's "Oh the Jews are such bigots, attacking queer people!" Every time. Intracommunity discussions of antisemitism in communities we belong to, over and over are shut down by gentile members of those communities, painting us as outsiders and interlopers trying to atrack the community. Thank you, Nonny, for providing a perfect example.

5&6 for the ask game?
5. Who have you told about your deconversion/change in beliefs?
alright, i've told basically everyone of my friends outside of church about this, as i live in a pretty progressive area, so everyone understands and makes jokes about it with me!
well... and then i told my sibling, and it went better than i thought it would, though they did say they would pray for me and whatnot. rn its kinda an unspoken topic. definitely will have to bring it up later at some points but its all quite complicated :/ i also have told a handful of people in my church my age. it has gone okay because i specifically told people who would not care so much. mostly ive gotten woah, interesting, you pretend youre a christian very well, i never could have guessed! which is always funny to hear. i did tell someone who said they would pray for me, but still was respectful and empathized with my situation, saying it seemed hard to be in church not believing what everyone else does, so that went alright as it could've.
ofc the "ill pray for you" sentiment bothers me but if they want to waste energy on me that is their business, doesn't affect me much
6. Favorite piece(s) of media that speaks to your experiences?
okay number one is definitely ethel cain's "preachers daughter" album. it quelled some of the rage i had towards my family while also validating my experiences having complicated thoughts about religion. its a little more nuanced than being like "fuck religion" for sure, but i think its an artful album that is exactly what it needs to be. even if i have completely denounced religion more than the singer has, i can appreciate this perspective from her album because of all the nuanced, really niche experiences of being disillusioned by christianity. the other would probably be the virgin suicides by jeffery eugenides. the novel isnt super fixated on xtianity alone but i think it illustrates in a subtle way the feeling of being a girl trapped in a house and religion, being kept from doing certain things, and suffering mentally. you have to infer some things but the writing and atmosphere is smth i like and its an interesting read. the movie has less nuance but is still beautiful cinematography wise.
ill definitely have to make posts on these pieces of media. thanks for the ask!

christians are so weird about intersex people. ive heard some of them say that intersex people shouldnt be allowed to date, marry, or have sex because it could be considered gay (which like wtf?)
and that their mere existence is the result of sin, and in a perfect world, they wouldnt exist. imagine being told that you exist because of sin, and that youre just a mistake that shouldnt exist. according to them, god doesnt make mistakes (except just making a ton of intersex people. oops)
its just so weird to me. every time ive asked my family their opinions about the topic, they just reply "thats a tiny percent of the population. they dont matter"
and thats just disgusting to me. i thought god "fearfully and wonderfully made" everybody? i thought god didnt make mistakes? i thought god wouldnt want us to shun his creation like they dont exist?

Despite claiming to be oh so loving, Christians really are the biggest haters and it just so happens that they often end up hating people who are already oppressed or marginalized in some way.

Biden could be a bloated, half-rotten corpse and I would still vote for him over Trump or RFK.
Fucking vote. Our actual lives are on the line with Project 2025 as the fascist playbook. Do not fucking let it happen.
