Puppet Master 3- Toulon's revenge

Plot

It's WW2 and the nazis are working on ways to reanimate soldiers, when one of them watches a peculiar puppet show where, apparently, the puppets are moving without strings! The creator of that show is the mysterious Mr Toulon who has apparently found a way to bring his puppets to live; an ability the nazis would love to get for themselves, wether he likes it or not.

Opinion

I think this is the fan favourite in the Puppet Master series but to me it just lacks the hilarity of part 2. This one is ALMOST like a real movie tho, it has kind of a plot and it does have really nice looking zombies but it's just too little for me. It doesn't go crazy or stupid enough for me to properly recommend it but it has some cute moments and i guess is one of the more watchable entries in this film series.

It's the weekend again and sure enough you're back in a video rental store. That strange aura from before still lingers. In fact, it feels much stronger now.

For one, the layout of the store is different. And, while you weren't really paying attention, that group of teens out front might have had super powers.

Plus, the clerk keeps throwing random shit at your head in a very exaggerated fashion.

It's all very weird. And you should probably leave.

Puppet Master 3: Toulon's Revenge...

The movie itself was epic. The quality, the puppet designs, and of course the main story was all gold. The only thing that bugged me the whole time I was watching was all of the background lore information. Most of it didn't match up to everything we have already got from the last 2 movies.

First, Leech Woman/Lady/Miss Leech..whatever..has Elsa Toulon's soul AKA Andre Toulon's wife. In part 2, she died. Andre did not care at all. Also, I just can't see somebody so kind and lighthearted as Elsa to be so gross and well yk--a scary little dude. I liked the concept of the green elixir to bring the puppets to life--without paranormal ghost possession or whatever. In newer films, especially the axis powers movies, it has been shown that to put someone's "soul" or whatever into the puppet you need their blood. You mix it into the elixir and bring them to life.

ALSO...in part 1 Puppet Master, it is shown Jester hasn't been awakened yet. Andre awakens him before he ends himself. So I don't really get Jester being possessed either. Also, whenever I see the epic one and only Blade on screen.. I don't wanna know that he's actually Dr. Hess.. like come on, man

so basically, I don't wanna believe all this extra stuff about the puppets. Just let them be epic living puppets yk

Puppet Master films: 1 (1989), 2 (1990), 3: Toulon’s Revenge (1991), 4 (1993), 5 (1994), Curse of (1998), Retro (1999), Legacy (2003), Axis of Evil (2010), Axis Rising (2012), Axis Termination (2017), and The Littlest Reich (2018)

A group of magically animated puppets commit murders in their master’s name.

 One of the strengths of this franchise is that the puppets are oddly likeable despite their tendency to kill and each are different with their own kind of charm. It’s also entertaining for horror fans since each puppet has a specific way of killing and this leads to inventive and occasionally even good effects in which the puppets move about and murder, although the quality of this varies wildly.

 Another thing that varies a great deal is the quality of the acting in each film. Some of them are pretty good, others are awful and they can barely get their lines out, and in Termination particularly the acting isn’t terrible but they speak so slowly that it’s a chore to watch. Legacy is a pointless contribution since it’s just a compilation of the previous films with only a couple of short new scenes framing it.

 The earlier films are easily some of the better ones because their plots are more original and they vaguely make sense. There is even some attempt to create lore across the series but there is a whole lot of inconsistency here too. Actors frequently change between films, the details of Toulon’s background vary, even the puppets disappear and others replace them between films with no explanation, and some later films retcon previous ones entirely.

 The last several films are too bad to be worth watching. 1-5, Curse, Retro, and possibly Axis of Evil are enjoyable enough and have coherent plots but the others either have acting that is so bad that it’s distracting and Littlest Reich is better quality technically and with acting but most of the middle is the slaughter of strangers the audience has little or no investment in and then ends very disappointingly.

 Puppet Master Legacy: 1/10 -I’d rather listen to a tape of a leaf blower noise-

 Puppet Master Axis of Evil: 3/10 -This one’s bad but there’s some good in it, just there-

 Puppet Master Axis Rising: 2/10 -It’s not THE worst, that’s something else. But…-

 Puppet Master Axis Termination: 2/10 -It’s not THE worst, that’s something else. But…-

 The Puppet Master The Littlest Reich: 3/10 -This one’s bad but there’s some good in it, just there-

 -The hotel in the first film was a miniature held in front of a real hotel using forced perspective to look real.

-The tagline of the third film is “When good puppets go bad” except they’re fighting Nazis in that one which isn’t really bad behaviour.

-The puppet Blitzkrieg is made of a remote control car with a Nazi flag attached to hide the antennae.
