OKAY I JUST WANNA SAY IM NOW BIBLICALLY OBSESSED W COWBOY HOBIE
AND NOW I NEED COWBOY HOBIE DOING THE HAT RULE WITH THE READER THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGTH
This prompt got me giggling and kicking my legs 😍😍😍 thank you, ly ❤️
Pairing: Cowboy! Hobie Brown x fem! Reader
Tags: No use of Y/N, no specific physical description of the reader, Cowboy AU, Western AU, CW drinking, CW suggestive, lovestruck Hobie, FLUFF.
ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
Watching you attempt to square dance is like watching a chicken run without its head.
Hobie watches you with a smile hidden behind his glass, amber liquid sloshing inside. It's his first glass of the night and he's sure he won't be needing another one when he's already drunk off of you. On any day he would've finished the entire drink in less than a minute or two, but his eyes and lips have been occupied with watching and smiling at your plucky dancing.
The bar is incredibly crowded, smoke from cigars invading his nostrils, music blaring in his ears. And the dance floor is completely full but that doesn't stop you from twirling all over the polished wooden floors; giggling and smiling at your friend who's trying her best to keep you from smacking someone on the face with your wild limbs. Hobie blames all the sugar from the sweet tea you've been consuming.
He places his glass next to your guarded ones, his palm never left the rim of it, determined to keep you safe. Chuckling, you make your way back to him, sweat covering your forehead, breathing heavily from all the dancing. Despite all these, the giddy smile on your lips never left.
“I'm back!” You stop in front of him, all smiles and skin warm. The yellow overhead lights make your eyes sparkle, like a man dying of thirst, he can't help but drink all of you.
“I can see that.” Hobie casually pulls you in by your jean belt loops, knees knocking on his own. “Had fun?” he looks at you through his lashes, eyes crinkling in the corners.
“Mm-hmm!” You nod fervently, he stops your movements with his hand on your jaw before you make yourself dizzy. Your cheeks are incredibly warm. “Thank you for bringing me here, neighbor.”
He chuckles deeply, eyes never leaving yours. “Shit, we're still on those terms after everythin’ we've been through? Do I have to make myself clearer or does velvet need to push us together again?”
“Making the horse do all the work again.” You click your tongue without malice. He has no idea how but he grins wider. Holding to the lapels of his old leather jacket, you lean closer to his touch.
“Dance with me? Please?” You blink your pretty eyes for emphasis.
Hobie cranes his neck closer to your face, breath fanning across your lips. You close your eyes, waiting for the sweetest thing to graze your lips.
“Nah.”
You open your eyes to a smirking Hobie, he takes a sip of his drink, teasing eyes staring at your flustered face.
You scoff, blinking rapidly. “The nerve.”
“I told you I don't dance.”
“Is that so?” With a burst of confidence and adrenaline still coursing through you, your hand flies quickly to his hat, taking it off from his head to place it on your own. “Look at me I'm Hobie Brown and I don't dance. See? That's you. Ridiculous, I know you can dance.”
Hobie closes his eyes for a second before downing his entire drink in one gulp. With an exhale, he squeezes your hips. “You'll be the death of me, love.” he flicks the brim of his hat to see your eyes better. “You have no idea what you've done do you?”
You smile sweetly, leaning closer, taunting him. “What if I do know? What are you gonna do, cowboy?”
For the first time since you've known Hobie, he stutters. “H-home, I'll go home” he clears his throat, composure coming back to his senses. “Maybe you'll join me. Only if you want to.”
“After everything we've been through,” You copy his own words. “do you think I'd say no?”
Hobie smiles, coiling his finger around your belt loops, leading you out of the crowded bar. His hat is still on your head, holding on to his wrist, you let him guide you.

The History of Cyberpunk
Or why every other SciFi Genre is called [something]punk
Tumblr media
You know what? Let's do this. Because I have seen the discussion on whether or not Solarpunk is "punk" over the last few days and... people really gotta learn their history.
The first time a genre took the "punk" name was Cyberpunk. And for context we gotta talk a bit about the history of the Cyberpunk genre.
While some books that we in hindsight call "Cyberpunk" were released as early as the 1960s, the start of Cyberpunk as a genre got its start in the late 70s and early 80s.
The term was invented by Bruce Bethke, who published a short story in 1983 with the name "Cyberpunk". His idea was to juxtapose the term "punk" for both the mentality and the punk protagonists in his short story with the term cyber, short for the cybernetics they were wearing. And while the cybernetics have become a main stay in the genre, the punk attitudes are not always carried through...
Well, the title Bethke invented stuck, though. When 1984 Neuromancer was published, one of the most influencial works in the early days of the genre, he called it "a Cyberpunk novel" in the marketing. And from there... Well, the genre was suddenly named like that.
The 80s were definitely the decade that had the most influence on the genre, given that a lot of the big novels and graphic novels of the genre were released here.
A big influence was, no doubt, that 1982 the Blade Runner movie had released and had inspired quite a few writers and artists. (And yes, this makes Blade Runner a movie that released not only before the term Cyberpunk was coined, but also before the genre had a chance to define itself.)
Given that the genre was defined in the 80s, there are a lot of 80s anxiety kept within it about the rise of the Japanese economy, that are these days rarely questioned within the western Cyberpunk movement.
When the genre was coined and developed, Japan was the fastest growing economy in the world, being so influencial that they got to buy out several things in America. Something that kinda jerked white people in the US a lot. This is, why Cyberpunk originally depicted not only a capitalist hellscape - but specifically a capitalist hellscape were everything was bought out by Japanese companies, with many of those early antagonists being Japanese companies. And yeah... there was a lot of both anti-japanese racism, but also cultural appropriation of Japanese things in early Cyberpunk, at time surviving to this day. (But that is a story for another day.)
The general sense that Western Cyberpunk had, was always the idea of: We have a capitalist hellscape where the world is slowly dying and people are exploited with no end, while we have those kinda punky protagonists, who stand outside of the society and try to work against it. This being where the punk comes from.
Now, I could talk for length about how a lot of that punky attitude has been lost in more modern Cyberpunk media, but that, too, is a story for another day.
So, let me just talk about what happened then.
The term Cyberpunk really is darn catchy, right? So just when that name took hold, writer K.W. Jeter retroactively called his 1979 novel Morlock Night "steampunk". And guess what: This stuck, too. Though while the 80s Cyberpunk still stuck to the punk attitude, a lot of Steampunk did not. While for certain there is quite a bit of Steampunk that has kinda punky characters go against the quasi Victorian society of steampunk books (something most common in the air pirate novels I have read), a lot of other stories are more focused on a general sense of adventure.
But never the less... The genre names stuck and gave a nice baseline for naming other genre. We got Dieselpunk, Atompunk, Nanopunk, Arcanepunk, Dustpunk, Silkpunk and of course also Solarpunk and Lunarpunk.
And for the most part... The "punk" names mostly communicate: "It is SciFi with this kinda aesthetic/twist going on". Which is just how it turned out.
Funnily enough Solarpunk is for once a genre that brings back the punk, as it tends to include a lot of the ideals aspired to by the Punk counter culture of the 1970s: Anarchism, anti-capitalism, anti-consumerism, anti-classism, anti-racism, anti-colonialism and so on. Though other than with Cyberpunk and the real world punk movement, Solarpunk for the most part imagines a place, where those things are culture instead of counter culture.
I personally find it kinda sad, how for the most part Cyberpunk kinda lost a lot of the counter-cultural, revolutionary mindset. And how fucking defeatist the genre often is.
But again, it is a story for another day. Just as the story of Japanese Cyberpunk is.

Luke:You don't understand what i've been through,Percy. And that made you too naive to know real justice
Percy,an audhd and bptsd afrolatino New Yorker who grew up poor and bullied for being neurodivergent and a lifelong bully beater who refused to stop standing up for other kids when he was one no matter how many schools he got kicked out of to the point of 6 at age 12,had an abusive stepdad that's his greatest fear as proven by his Tartarus smell,a deadbeat birth dad who's still not genuinely nice to him post-reunion for the sake of his image, was martyrd by the gods starting at 12 and has been going on quests multiple times a year when the FIRST thing he ever said was when he never wanted to be a Half-Blood,hates himself to the point of suicidal episodes,is definitely transfem bigender but won't let himself embrace femininity out of internalized transmisogyny, participates in Rachel's activism and protests with her,is anti-capitalist and literally psychologically immune to wanting power, took in a lil gay disabled boy and a lil darkskin black girl as his younger siblings and pseudo-kids because they're abuse survivors that didn't have reliable adult figures in their lives before him, credits his Mamí for raising him right-to be like her and an anarchist who listens to The Ramones:

A cinematic shot of Joe Strummer on the set of Alex Cox's 1987 film 'Straight To Hell' film in Almeria, Spain.
Along with Courtney Love, Sy Richardson and Dick Rude, Joe starred as a hitman in this parody of spaghetti westerns which also featured cameos by Dennis Hopper, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello, Edward Tudor-Pole, Kathy Burke and Jim Jarmusch. The film was a commercial flop and drew mostly negative reviews but it gained a cult film status.

It has recently occurred to me that Silver is the way he is in the comics(at both publishers) because the comics are heavily written with specifically the English dubisms of Sonic 06 (and misinterpretations there of) in mind. This is why Silver is depicted as being awkward, nervous, insecure, incompetent, overly dependent on others and having faux-bravado (and saying IT’S NO USE) when in the Japanese version of 06 and everything after that Silver isn’t like that at all, he’s the exact opposite of most of those actually. Then because there are essentially no guidelines or restrictions on how Silver is depicted in the comics (again, at both publishers) that impression can be freely implemented.
This has been evolving (or festering rather) for over a decade now and a half now with Archie’s interpretation of Silver popularizing him as a shy awkward incompetent goober(albeit one that could still be taken seriously) due to the influence of English 06 and that forming the basis of how the entire Sonic comics crew views him due to working with that for over a decade, then IDW’s depiction of Silver takes even more inappropriate influence from the dub (and the writers previous works) and makes Silver very timid, nervous and dependent on Blaze in many instances which are implications ONLY in the English version of 06 that the comics have free reign to implement because again, there have never been any restrictions on how Silver is portrayed in the comics. This isn’t development into or out of a softer personality. It’s Silver being written with dubisms and impressions of those dubisms in mind. Impressions that have only gotten further and further away from his actual character as they’ve evolved between comic depictions.
The influence of these dubisms and the misinterpreting of Silver they cause needs to stop and I sincerely hope the awkward dork impression they cause do not influence how Silver is portrayed in the movies. The 06 dub and the false impressions it causes are a big part of why Silver has been widely hated and misinterpreted as a character. Silver is a competent aggressive rude punk with a heart of gold, not an over dependent awkward nervous twink.

I finally caved in. Hello Katy may I request cowboy Hobie with a farmer reader who live on a ranch together. (That’s the main idea but you could change or add anything also your choice to make it angsty/fluff etc.). 🤠
Cowboy! Hobie request let's gooooo!!! Thank you for requesting! 😘
Pairing: Cowboy! Hobie Brown x Fem! Reader
Tags: No use of Y/N, no specific physical description of the reader, Cowboy AU, Western AU, established relationship, lovestruck Hobie, FLUFF.
ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
You're ogling. It's not a crime to ogle your partner per se but with how your horse Luna is currently side-eyeing you whilst you brush her mane, ogling should be illegal. Or at least in your shared ranch. How could you not ogle Hobie when he looks like that?
You sigh deeply, eyes shaped like hearts at his glistening chest. Sweat dripping on his skin like tiny diamonds sparkling in the heat of the golden sun. His arm muscles are prominent as he heaves heavy hay bales over his shoulder. The blue jeans he's currently sporting hugs his legs perfectly like it was tailored only for him. Belt buckle glimmering, a dark cowboy hat protecting him from the sun, and dark cowboy boots to match— you should be arrested by how your eyes are glued to him and him only— even though your animals need your attention.
He knows that you're staring with how his pierced lips subtly curl into a smirk and how he's currently making an effort to stay in your line of sight even though the hay bales definitely don't need to be placed a few feet away from the field to the barn. He has been going back and forth for a while that he feels like his feet have carved a path on the dusty field.
You sigh longingly again and Luna has had enough of you. She huffs loudly, air coming out of her pink nose, head bumping yours to get your attention when her neighing couldn't.
“Hey, girl, what's your problem?” You pat her nose to calm her down. She kicks at the dusty ground, making sure her annoyance is palpable. “Carrots right, sorry.”
You swear you heard Hobie chuckle. But when you turn to look at him, he's currently busy with stacking hay, seemingly unaware. He hides his grin behind the shadow of his hat.
Feeding Luna her favourite treat, she happily chews noisily. Craning your neck to go back to the gun show, you knit your eyebrows to see his usual spot empty.
“Lookin' for me?” Hobie scares the tumbleweeds out of you. He pokes your side, making you jump in place. “You were starin’ a bit too hard. I swear there's holes on my back havin' the same shape as your eyeballs. At this point you gotta pay me, sweetheart.” He shoots you a wink, adding to your quickening heartbeat. Going around the pale horse, his smirk never leaves his face.
He leans over Luna's saddle, face perched on his hands with a smile that could stop someone's heart. Tilting his head, eyebrows raised, he waits for your clever reply. There's only crickets singing in your head with how he looks at you like you hung the sun for him. He just stares at you lovingly, perfectly content, perfectly happy even with all the grime dusted on his chiseled cheeks.
You feel like you've fallen for him all over again.
Copying his movements, you lean over Luna's saddle, facing him with the same love and softness he's currently showing just for you.
After what seemed like hours has passed just from throwing each other heart eyes from looking, you finally speak with a tone that Hobie could only describe as lovestrucked.
“Do I get a discount at least?”
He sucks in his teeth with fake annoyance. “Nah, don't think so, love. You can only see these muscles right here.” Patting his bicep, you laugh.
He thinks he's in heaven.
“That’s true, the sight alone is a rare commodity around here.”
Reaching for your hand, indulging himself with your mere touch, he intertwines your fingers together with his, like vines that grow and weave around each other, never letting go.
“You good? Heat isn't killing you?” He asks you like he's not the one toiling away outside with the sun bearing down at him.
You shake your head, bringing his hand up to your lips to reassure him. You feel the raised skin atop his knuckles, taking extra care, you kiss each one gently. “Nope, I'm melting but I can handle it.”
“Melting from the heat or from the show I gave you?”
You giggle, rolling your eyes, it's his turn to press a sweet kiss over your knuckles. “I should be the one asking you that. You alright? You're sweating a lot.” Wiping his forehead, he closes his eyes, his smile deepens with every wipe.
“Got it all?”
“Mm-hmm”
“Now do my pits,” He raises his arms above his head. “they're awfully sweaty, sweetheart.” He jokes with a deep chuckle.
Hobie expects for you to flinch away, or even screech and run away but you just shrug. “Sure,” your acceptance has him flabbergasted and endeared. “I've cleaned blood off of you, sweat is nothing compared to that.”
“Holy shit,” he says softly, almost a whisper as he goes around Luna to come near you— impossibly near as he holds your face in his hands. You don't mind the smell of hay clinging to his palms or sweat as you lean to his touch, eyes shining and full of affection for the man before you. “You think the reverend is free today?”
Chuckling, you knit your eyebrows in confusion. “What? Why?”
“So I could marry you today.” He says it with certainty that you're sure it's not the heat that has your legs almost crumbling. “Obviously.”
If horses could roll their eyes, Luna would be doing it right now.
