âシâ§Introduction to Writing a Professional Emailâ§ď˝Ľâ
"Every professor secretly wants to be Ms. Frizzle." -@myshoeisonthewrongfoot
Introduction to Writing a Professional Email
Writing an email is one skill that you will most likely need in your professional life either as a student or in your time in the workforce. However, you can also use these skills to write emails to experts in any given field when you have questions among other things. The applications are endless.
Rule One: Donât Panic
If you are writing to someone for information there is a very solid chance that the response you are going to get is going to be something like âyeah sure -sent from my iphone 11:35:18 PMâ if it isnât closer to an automatic message informing you that the person is out of the office until a specific date. Those who care donât matter and those who matter donât care. If your grammar is coherent enough to be understandable and cohesive, they are going to care more about the content of your email than the structure and soundness of the message. So fear not, internet denizen, you are probably gonna kill it. Being professional, polite, and persistent will get you very far in most things, and this is no exception.
Subject Line
Whatever anyone tells you, your job here is to NOT get caught by someoneâs spam filter. Summarize what youâre looking for in about 3 to 5 words, and you should be good. I generally like to start with [What is it?] [Specific topic it pertains to.] Want to ask a professional about how many different kinds of tigers there are?Â
Subject: Question about Tiger Species Statistics.
The [What is it?] helps give them an idea of what the email is about, and the specificity helps both keep you out of the spam filter and makes you sound purposeful.
Template
Writing an email isnât particularly difficult once you get the hang of it, but when youâre first starting out, donât be scared to use a template. Taking some of the thinking out of the process can do wonders for making you both comfortable as well as getting you most of the way there without having to struggle. No one is going to judge you if your email doesnât look particularly original in structure because this is about the content. You donât have to worry here about looking like you copied someone elseâs homework, rather, itâs encouraged. If you were writing a haiku you wouldnât worry about having the same number of syllables as everyone else. In the same vein do not worry about having the same professional email structure as everyone else. Emails are a means to an end, and there is no harm in viewing them that way.
Iâve written one out below for your convenience.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Good morning,/ Good afternoon,/ Good evening,] ---> Header
[This is where you introduce yourself and provide relevant details about who you are. Are you a student with a question? Are you a professional in the field? Include that here. You may also want to include a thesis here about what you want in this introduction. That is likely going to resemble something like âI have a question about {topic} and would like to hear your advice/ input/ knowledge on the subject, if possible.â It may seem redundant to introduce yourself here when your name is also going at the bottom, but redundancy isnât always a bad thing. This first paragraph is introducing yourself, the bottom is handing someone your business card.] ---> Introduction paragraphÂ
[This is your substantive content. You can indent this if you like, but some software gets a little finicky with this process, and most people prefer a space between the paragraphs in an email anyway because it genuinely makes it easier for people to read. Keep the paragraphs concise, clear, and donât sweat the small stuff.] ---> First body of the email.
[I usually use much shorter paragraphs in an email that you would in an essay. Youâre generally not arguing a point or giving an in depth analysis in an email, so they shouldnât be too beefy in the first place, but generally separating them by question or by thought process is a good idea.]Â ---> Second body of the email.
[And so on and so forth.] ---> Etc. body of the email.
[Best,/ Best wishes,/ Thank you,/ Thanks in advance, Kind regards] ---- Signature message
[Name O. Person] ---- Signature here
Stylistic Options
Some people insist there should be a colon at the end of the header portion, but in personal experience no one cares besides this one writing professor I had. However, if you wanna feel fancy with it, go for it. There are barely any rules to writing a professional email, but if it makes you a little less panicked to think you are performing a well guarded secret of professional email technique by using it, be the super spy you were born to be.Â
Bonus Sign Off Sentence
Additionally, no one thinks for more than five seconds about the signature message. Whether you use âRegardsâ, or âThank youâ this is linguistic furniture. You notice when it isnât there, but you donât think very hard about it when it is there. I use the exact same one every single time, and so does everyone else. Pick one that sparks joy for you. If you want, you can even throw a sentence right before it to tailor it to your specific desires a la: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Body ends here.]
I genuinely appreciate everything youâve done for me. Regards, Name O. Person
Email Signature
One way to elevate your professional email game is to create a signature in your email program. In gmail, itâs under general settings. You click add signature, pick a name for it, and it should open a formatting box. This allows you to create essentially a business card that will automatically be affixed to the bottom of your emails. It will go in place of putting your name at the bottom every time. You can get a little more fancy with the fonts and information in this section by including things like job title or graduating class. This can elevate your professional email game tenfold and make you look like you really know what youâre doing. Nearly every program for email management has some variation of this in the settings somewhere.

Getting a Microlearning Lesson Right: A Blueprint with the Microlearning Map
In the fast-paced world of digital learning, microlearning has emerged as a powerful tool for delivering education in bite-sized, easily digestible chunks. This approach is particularly effective for busy professionals who need to acquire new skills quickly and efficiently. However, creating an effective microlearning lesson can be challenging without a clear plan. Thatâs where a microlearning map comes in. A well-structured microlearning map serves as a blueprint, guiding educators through the process of designing and implementing successful microlearning lessons. In this article, we will explore the concept of a microlearning map and provide a step-by-step format to help you get it right.
Understanding Microlearning
Before diving into the specifics of a microlearning map, itâs important to understand what microlearning is and why itâs effective. Microlearning refers to the delivery of educational content in small, focused segments. These segments typically last between 3 to 10 minutes and are designed to achieve a specific learning outcome. The benefits of microlearning include increased learner engagement, better retention of information, and the flexibility to learn at oneâs own pace.
The Need for a Microlearning Map
Creating a microlearning lesson involves more than just breaking down content into smaller parts. It requires careful planning to ensure that each segment is meaningful and contributes to the overall learning objective. A microlearning map serves as a visual representation of this plan, outlining the structure, content, and flow of the lesson. It helps educators organize their ideas, identify key learning points, and ensure a logical progression from one segment to the next.
Steps to Create a Microlearning Map
Define the Learning ObjectivesThe first step in creating a microlearning map is to clearly define the learning objectives. What do you want learners to achieve by the end of the lesson? These objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). For example, if youâre creating a microlearning lesson on customer service, a learning objective might be, âBy the end of this lesson, learners will be able to handle customer complaints effectively using a three-step process.â
Identify Key Content SegmentsOnce the learning objectives are defined, the next step is to identify the key content segments that will help learners achieve these objectives. Each segment should focus on a single concept or skill and be designed to fit within the 3 to 10-minute timeframe. For the customer service example, key content segments might include understanding customer complaints, the three-step process for handling complaints, and practicing the process through scenarios.
Determine the Delivery MethodMicrolearning can be delivered in various formats, including videos, interactive modules, infographics, quizzes, and more. Choose the delivery method that best suits the content and learning objectives. For instance, videos might be effective for demonstrating the three-step process, while interactive modules could provide hands-on practice.
Create a FlowchartA microlearning map often takes the form of a flowchart, visually representing the sequence of content segments. Start by placing the learning objectives at the top, followed by the key content segments in the order they will be presented. Use arrows to indicate the flow from one segment to the next. This flowchart helps ensure that the lesson progresses logically and that each segment builds on the previous one.
Develop the ContentWith the flowchart in place, itâs time to develop the content for each segment. Keep the content concise and focused, ensuring that it directly supports the learning objectives. Incorporate multimedia elements, such as images, videos, and audio, to enhance engagement and retention. For the customer service lesson, the segment on understanding customer complaints might include a short video explaining common types of complaints and their causes.
Add Interactive ElementsInteractive elements are crucial for engaging learners and reinforcing key concepts. These can include quizzes, polls, drag-and-drop activities, and scenario-based exercises. Incorporate these elements throughout the microlearning lesson to keep learners actively involved. For example, after presenting the three-step process for handling complaints, include a scenario-based exercise where learners can practice applying the process.
Review and ReviseOnce the content is developed, review the entire microlearning map to ensure that it aligns with the learning objectives and follows a logical progression. Gather feedback from colleagues or test the lesson with a small group of learners to identify any areas for improvement. Make necessary revisions to enhance clarity, engagement, and effectiveness.
Implement and EvaluateAfter finalizing the microlearning lesson, itâs time to implement it. Deliver the lesson to your target audience and monitor their progress. Use analytics tools to track engagement, completion rates, and assessment scores. Collect feedback from learners to evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson and identify any areas for further improvement.
Sample Microlearning Map Format
To provide a practical example, letâs create a microlearning map for a lesson on âEffective Email Communication.â
Learning Objectives:
Understand the key components of a professional email.
Write clear and concise email messages.
Use proper email etiquette.
Content Segments:
Introduction to Email Communication (Video, 3 minutes)
Components of a Professional Email (Infographic, 5 minutes)
Writing Clear and Concise Emails (Interactive Module, 7 minutes)
Email Etiquette (Quiz, 5 minutes)
Scenario-Based Practice (Scenario Exercise, 10 minutes)
Flowchart:
Introduction to Email Communication â Components of a Professional Email â Writing Clear and Concise Emails â Email Etiquette â Scenario-Based Practice
Interactive Elements:
Quiz on Email Etiquette
Scenario-Based Exercise: Responding to Different Email Situations
Conclusion
Creating a microlearning lesson requires careful planning and organization to ensure that each segment is effective and contributes to the overall learning objective. A microlearning map serves as a valuable tool in this process, providing a clear blueprint for designing and implementing successful microlearning lessons. By following the steps outlined in this article and using a structured format, educators can create engaging and impactful microlearning experiences that meet the needs of todayâs learners. Whether youâre teaching customer service skills or effective email communication, a microlearning map can help you get it right every time.

A/N: I can't come up with a title so,,,, yeah!! Anyways, I've had this saved in my drafts and I miss writing and even with spring break!! my professor still gives us homework. So, here I am. this is just a thing where like reader is an angel and falls and like it was gonna be a short series, but like,,, i never finish my series (except for ciays)
Word Count: 3.1K
-
You sit with a pit in your stomach. Your legs are causing the items on the table to shake, and you can't stop the dread that is looming over you, cold and heavy. There's a shift beside you, and a hand cups over your thigh, a feeble attempt to get you to stop moving. You can only flinch in response.Â
âCan you just- I donât know, fucking chill or something?â His hand gives you a squeeze, before pulling back and crossing his arms. âThey arenât gonna do shit to you.â
âLucifer fell because he asked too many questions,â you counter, gasping for breath. The room feels too tight, too full and empty all at once.
Beside you, he scoffs. âLove to break it to ya babe, but you arenât him. Youâll be fine.â
âExactly,â you hiss, hiding your face in your hands. âIm not him. Iâm- Iâm a low ranking Angel. I- Oh Father, I donât hold any type of status. Iâm going to fall,â you voice breaks and tears are in your eyes, horror and fear making you pale.
âYouâre not.â Heâs harsher this time, and pulls you to look at him. His name is on your tongue, and he interrupts you. âIâm vouching for you. And so are the rest of my girls. Youâll be fine.â He loosens his grip on you, and smooths a hand down your hair. âChillax, babe. I know youâre a little goody-two-shoes, but this is nothing. Youâll probably just get demoted or some shit.â
âAdam.â Your hands grasps onto his, and you want to believe that heâs right. âBut what if-â
The door opens, and you both whip your head around, watching as Seraphim walks in, her head held high and face lack of expression. The pit in your stomach swallows more of you.
Your rise from your seat, and Adam begrudgingly follows. âSera-â you clear your throat- âI uh- Seraphim. Good evening. I- I thought we were not allowed to meet before the trial,â you look around the room, and for a moment, you have hope. She wouldnât go against orders, so perhaps sheâs here with good news. You give her a tense smile, and she walks to the desk, her wings taut and folded behind her.Â
She sits at the chair with her arms folded over the desk. âI wanted to be the one to deliver the verdict.â
Your brows furrow, and sit back down, your ankles crossed over one another, and your body leaning towards Adamâs. His hands reach over the space between the chairs and you grasp onto him, nails digging into the clothed covered skin.Â
âThe verdict?â You ask in a whisper. âBut I hadnât- What about my trial?â
âIt was decided that you would not have a trial.â Her voice is like stone, unwavering, strong, and heavy.Â
âDecided by who?â A chill runs down your spine, and itâs as if you can feel a presence around you.
âIf thereâs no trial then how do fuck do you all even have a verdict?â Adam, as always, is crude, and it only furthers the sickness deep in you.
âAdam,â you say in a high pitched voice.Â
He turns to you, and squeezes your hands. âWell? What is it? Community service? A demotion in rank? Paperwork?â
âSera,â your chest is tight, your bones pricing into the tender flesh, âwhy didnât I have a trial?â
âLook, the demotion canât be that bad, right? Iâll look after them. Make them my assistant or something. I got shitload to do anyways, theyâll keep me on it.â
âSera,â you plead, âI was promised a trial. I was told that it would be fair.â
âNo trial is good, right? Means it was easy to consider your fate.â You flinch. âYou get to be my assistant. Donât worry babe-â he tugs on your hands for your attention, but youâre fixated on Seraphim and that way that they look at you with somber eyes- âI wonât work you too hard.â The playful tinged words make you sick.Â
âSera,â you croak, leaning away from Adam- âmy trial. It was promised.â
She calls your name, itâs whispered like a prayer, uttered like a curse and laced in sorrow. You know your outcome, before she can even say it. âIâm terribly sorry.â Your body goes cold. âIt has been decided that your punishment for questioning the beliefs and practices of Heaven will be the taking of your wings and The Fall to Hell.â
You can taste the bile. It burns, the acid fills your mouth, and it makes your eyes burn with hot tears.Â
âWhat the fuck!â Adam shouts, your hands are let go, and you stare into her eyes. You can hear the chair squeak as itâs pushed away and it nearly topples over. Adam goes to you, short strides to grasp his hands over your shoulders. âThat isnât fucking fair! They were promised a trial, so where the fuck is it?â Heâs furious, and the hands around you bring you no comfort.Â
âIâm terribly sorry.â Seraphim looks at you as she speaks. âFor the both of you.â Her eyes dart between you and Adam.
âI didn't mean to,â you whisper, your nails digging into your clothes. âI promise that I-â
âCome on Sera! I've done worse shit than them. Can't we just look the other way?â
âAdam, I need to speak to them alone.â
âLike fuck Iâll-â
âAdam,â you breathe out. He looks at you, moving to kneel in front of you and you look at the demonic mask, and you want to retch. âLet us speak in private, please. Iâll meet you outside.â
He looks at you, through the golden eyes of the mask. âFine,â he huffs. He stands, and presses a kiss to the top of your temple. You wish that you could return the gesture- that you could look up and kiss him back without worry. âYell if you need me,â he whispers to you. You nod, unable to mutter a word to him.
The door clicks behind him, and youâre left alone with Seraphim- something that youâve never had the opportunity to experience. Perhaps if circumstances were different, youâd be more ecstatic.Â
They call your name, and she holds her hands out to you. Like a trained dog, you place your hands in hers, and you let the tears fall.
âWhy am I falling?â You ask, gaining no comfort from her hands.
âEmily- one of the younger Seraphim- has begun to question certain aspects of Heaven. I fear that the questions won't settle.â
âSo this is- Iâm meant to scare her? To remind her of her place?â
Seraphim sighs, and she lifts a hand, tracing a delicate finger along the back of your hand. You hate the ways he says your name- like she still cares for you. Like your name is sweet as honey. As if she has the right to speak to you with care and love. âYou must understand that Emily is still so young.â
âAnd a higher ranking than I am.â You turn away from her, but you canât pry your hands away. You want comfort, even if it's given by your judge and even if the hands that hold yours are going to be stained in gold. They say nothing to your comment, and you hold their hand tighter. âWhen?â You croak out.You dig your nails into their skin- itâs cold, and as much as you want to hurt them, you cannot.
âBy the end of the week.â Their words are spoken without wavering. âYouâll be confined in one of our holding rooms for incoming souls for the time being. Youâll still be allowed visitors. The spectacle will be watched by only those that you allow, and by the high-ranking angels.â You let out a sob, and bow your head. âIt will be quick. With the ranking unbeknownst to the rest, it will be an Exterminator who will remove your wings. Theyâll be wearing one of the ceremonial robes. After the removal of your wings, youâll be-â she pauses and you can already feel the emptiness.
âIâll be cast out.â You look up and she nods, her hands squeezing yours.Â
âUnderstand that if I could will it any other way, I would.âÂ
You look at the hands holding onto yours, and you think about how someone will have to clean your blood. How theyâll get on their knees and wipe the ichor from the floor, how the rags will drip in riches and stain their hands in sin. Your wings flitter in response.Â
âYou said an Exterminator?â
âLute has been tasked with your severance.â
âWhy not Adam?â
Seraphim looks shocked. âI- I would not wish for him to be the one to remove your wings. If it were any other, I believe he would do an excellent job, but since itâs you,â she trails off. âI do not believe he would be able to commit.â
âBut Lute can,â you say.
âYes. She is able to put her feelings aside, and do her job.â Seraphim pauses, their eyes are trained on you, and a few look at you in pity. âHowever, if you wish for it to be Adam-â
âNo,â you interrupt. âNo, youâre right. He wouldnât be able to.â Your wings feel heavy. âSera?â She hums in response. âHow soon will I be cast out after my wings are removed?â
âEffective immediately.â
-
You lay in your new bed- the mattress new and solid underneath you. Itâs nothing like the one back home. You canât seem to get comfortable, all that you can do is lay there wrapped in Adamâs arms, pulled close to his body where your breath tickles at his skin. âYou can run,â he says quietly into your ear. âIâll leave the door unlocked, and you can run.â His act of defiance brings tears to your eyes.Â
âAdam,â your voice breaks.
âThe Exterminators will be the ones tasked with chasing you down.â You feel the way his hands grip your skin, clawing and desperate to keep you beside him. âThey wonât get you. Theyâre loyal to me. Theyâll listen. You can live on Earth.âÂ
When you close your eyes, tears trace down the curve of your face. âLute is the one performing the severance of my wings,â you tell him a hoarse whisper, unable to keep the horror out of it. Even speaking about it is enough to send a pain down your spine and at the base of your wings. His nails pierce into your skin, pinching into the softness of your stomach. His wings flutter, and they are heavy above your body. âSheâll do a good job,â you comfort. âA clean cut that will make it easy to heal.â Thereâs bile burning in your throat. âPlease donât be upset with her after the event.â His arms wrap tighter around you, and his wings hide you from the outside, curving over your body, cupping you and holding you. Your hands hold onto him, at the nape of his neck, trying not to look at him, but commit his touch to memory. âI donât think you should be there.â
âLike fuck I wonât,â he seethes, the venom in his words are unable to hide the tremor.Â
âAdam,â you murmur, âIâm serious. I- You shouldnât see me like that. I- I know that I would look for you after it happened. I- I canât ask for you to see me so broken.â
âIâm going,â he tells you in a tight voice, his breaths coming out in gasps.
You nod, and swallow the pit lodged in your throat. âPlease donât stop it.â He whispers your name, and lets you go, coming up to a sitting position. His wings still stretched, touching you so gently. You look up at him, tear stains glistening on your cheeks. âThis is my fault. Iâve accepted it. I know Iâm going to plead and cry for mercy, but ignore me, Adam.â Your hands find his, and you hold onto him desperately. âDonât fight for me. Let it happen.â
âYou should run away,â he tells you again. âWe can run together.â Tears glisten in his eyes, and you donât recall ever seeing him so upset.Â
You smile, but it trembles and falls, and tears spill out. âWhere would we go?â You ask in a quiet voice.Â
âEarth.â His jaw tightens, and you donât comment when his voice cracks. âWeâd take a bunch of gems from here and sell them there. Weâd be rich.â You try not to let the quaking in your chest show, the soft stuttering that threatens to release a storm. âWeâd sing in some dingy ass club, and Iâd use my blessing to make us famous.â
You laugh, and itâs clouded by tears. âI thought we were in hiding?â
âWeâd be in disguise,â he counters, a hand prying away from your grip to wipe away the tears. âWeâd settle after a few years, get a nice house in a big city. Gamble, drink, fuck. Maybe have a few kids in like a hundred years.â He smiles when you turn your head to kiss his palm, your other hand going to curve over his. âWeâd have a nice life.â He lays over you, hiding his face into the crook of your neck, and presses his lips to the warmth of your skin when your hands tangle themselves into his hair. âItâs a nice plan, right?â
âOf course,â you say through tears. âYou always come up with good plans.â
-
You stand in a stadium, dressed in white, your back exposed and your wings fluttering about no matter how much you will them to still. No one fears that you are going to run. Not when there are archers lined, and not when the Angels are watching you. You see Adam, and he wears his mask, standing with his arms held behind him.Â
You wish you told Seraphim that he wasnât allowed.Â
Chains bind your ankles and wrists. The iron pinching your skin and irritating the flesh. Youâd take this pain a thousand times over than whatâs about to happen.Â
âFor questioning Heavenâs beliefs and practices,â the voice echoes around, âwe sentence you,â your name sounds empty, and you canât breathe, âto have your wings removed and to be banished from Heaven.â You do a stupid thing and glance at Adam and he looks away at your glance. You feel a tinge of pain, but itâs better this way. âYou will now have your wings removed.â
You turn your head, and see Lute. Sheâs shrouded in white robes with gold accents. Her hair is tied, and her wings are pinned behind her. She does not cast you on any type of look and you're grateful for that.
Her gaze is steeled. You know her. She knows you. Sheâs seen you at your worst, and youâve seen her at her best. Youâve shared meals with her- broken bread and drank wine together. Sheâs been in your home. Her smile has always been sharp, and there are moments where itâs tender, vulnerable and saved for those closest to her.Â
She does not smile at you. She keeps her gaze focused on you, and you canât help but tremble, the iron of the chains clinking together. You look away, and youâre grateful you had nothing to eat the morning of. You were grateful you were not given the choice of a last meal.Â
âOn your knees,â Lute tells you in a strained voice.Â
You hope Adam wonât be mad at her. You hope that if he is, that she can take it.
You flinch at the chill touch of the sword. Your wings flutter, and you bite your tongue. You should make your case once more. You shouldnât be here. You only asked a simple question. This shouldnât be happening. You shouldnât be here. Thereâs a point against your back. You look up and find Adam. You need him to save you. You can run away with him. Youâll live the life he wanted. Youâd do anything. Youâd be his. You yelp as something sharp cuts into you. Youâd never disobey Heaven again. Youâll never ask again. Youâll be content. Please, Father, youâll be good.
âStay still,â she says, breathing out the last word in a plea, and when you cannot, sheâs forced to continue.Â
The tearing is a sharp pain. One that makes you writhe and scream, your throat raw and the sounds unbearably loud. Every twist and turn only further aggravates the wound, skin pulling and muscles bare for the Angels to see. Warmth runs down your back, caressing the small part of your back and spilling onto your legs and thighs. Your hands slam into the ground, clawing at the porcelain floor. Through tears, you can liquid gold, shining and shimmering.
The cool air is agony against your open wounds. Youâre warm, and wet, and the final strip of skin is pulled away from you. The heaviness of your wings are gone from you, and crane your neck to see them land with a heavy âthudâ away from you. The base of the ivory feathers are drenched in gold, and you can only think about the misery youâre in, and you reach for them. You need them back, you want them back. Youâd sew them onto yourself if you could, but you canât leave them here.
Your eyes glance around, wide and horrified, searching the crowd, and you roll onto your back, screaming once more, and calling for Father, your eyes landing on Adam. Legs block your view, and heavy hands lift you, pulling on your arm, and stretching the raw muscle.Â
You can hear someone, but your own screams overpower the other, and for a moment, youâre in the air, lifted and unable to breathe, until gravity pulls you down.
Itâs a searing pain. It burns your skin and the whips of air slash against your back and body. Youâre beaten and battered, carried by the air of Hell, and your screams only echo around you. The ground is unforgiving, a crater forming around you as you land. Gravel and sticks push against your skin. Your body lays crumpled on the floor, limbs twisted around each other, and your body is a mix of gold and dirt.Â
Weeds twist into your hair, and the stench of Hell makes you retch. You cry on the ground, alone and numb. There is no Father here; there is no warmth for you here. In a shay breath, with your hands clawing at the dirt, you wish for death. You wish for the demons to pry you apart and for your body to never recover.Â
-
And far away, tucked away in his castle, eyes looking up at the heavens, Lucifer sees a shooting star streak across the sky, and his heart drops.Â

I appreciate the offer, but I would like to know what I contribute to the meeting before attending. Cheers, Nightmare Nightmare: <- uses text-to-speech and autocorrect
Ink: you spelled captcha wrong Ink: and how Ink: and frustrating Ink: adjectives go before the noun Ink: you used "fml" right though so good job Ink: oh, you're also texting. in case this was meant for a search engine Ink: <- being annoying on purpose

for the word prompt: hanahaki, with lawlight
The first petal emerges with so little ceremony that nobody notices it except L. On screen the Yagami boy says, "Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Kira sees right through this."
The pink petal unfurls quietly in his hand.
L says, "Your son is clever, isn't he?"
-
The flowers come out wet. It's an ungraceful affair, but at least they're small.
When they're whole, the petals coil around in neat spirals. Sometimes they're buds, but usually they're just individual petals. There's a strength of emotion in what L feels, but yearning feels as much the wrong description as unrequited.
The flowers don't hurt, and after a while, they stop altogether.
On screen, Light Yagami blinks. He looks tired.
"Ryuzaki," he says. "What's it going to take for you to believe that I'm not Kira?"
Without turning the microphone on, L coughs once and expels nothing but air. Light stares beseechingly up at the camera for another long moment before he slumps.
-
L's throat stays clear until Higuchi seizes and collapses in the Chief's arms. Then, it isn't a petal at all. Light's shoulders are still heaving when L starts to cough. By the time he's spat up the irritant--one single yellow stamen--into his palm, Light's eyes are fixed blankly on the middle distance.
"Ryuzaki," he says quietly. Calmly, coolly, like he wasn't screaming himself hoarse only a second ago. "I want to check this out."
L coughs again.
-
The last petal emerges later, but it disappears into Light's palm, and L doesn't know anything after that.
-
(send me a one word prompt)
#hanahaki is usually such a straightforwardly romantic premise that it really stumped me for a second how to make it work with lawlight#so here it is. still maybe not romance but i think dubiously defined yearning works too#you know when the ship is lawlight but it isn't really light that L's yearning for#sorry L i killed you again#but im more sorry to light who got cucked in his own ship by his own other self#rookfic#death note#lawlight#thank you for the fun prompt!!#fun fact i have a Professional Email open in another tab and when i got stuck on that i swapped to write this and when i got stuck on this#i swapped to write email#so thanks this yaoi#OH i forgot to mention this but the flowers are begonias

Anyway if you have trouble writing emails I totally get it. It's fucking difficult. It took me so much practice to become confident writing emails and I STILL struggle with it sometimes. However. There are tutorials out there. There are hundreds of guides and templates for writing specific types of emails or emails to specific people. If you want someone to proofread something you're going to send and give you pointers, hit me up! I write emails all the fucking time and I've gotten good at it against my will!! People were cheating at emails long before the generative AI craze and those old methods are absolutely still available and useful.
#i had a bunch of guides on how to write professional emails saved all throughout high school#I've gotten pretty good at doing it on my own now but i was relying on those guides for like 5 years

a wild moment at work today, when my boss (at the end of quite a long speech about why I should track my work better) essentially said, "but you're not getting any credit for your accomplishments!" and I realized I genuinely didn't care.
#I mean part of this is that she wants credit for being my boss and I simply have no desire to assist with that.#but it doesn't particularly matter to me that an email blast doesn't give me credit.#I know what I do. I know what value I offer. I have solid professional relationships and if they fired me....well.#(best not enjoy that particular gloating daydream too much.)#she brought up one of the attorneys who - during a recent group meeting - talked about collaborating with me#as an example of ''not getting credit''#and excuse me? the prompt was all about collaboration! the point was to give an example of how you collaborated!#the attorney even ASKED FOR PERMISSION before the meeting; I said that it was fine to use as an example#I got namechecked TWICE during that meeting for two different projects I was very pleased.#sorry you apparently hate your coworkers and feel the need to duel them in a conference room but I'm fine.#some things rats won't do

tumblrinas when the disability disables you: oh wow that's so cringe. Stop doing that. Actually, I have disability too, and I can do it, which means you're just using your disability as an excuse. I'm morally correct therefore to mock you for being disabled and using tools and aids to help you. I'm not ableist, I'm just saying the hard truth đ
#yes this was inspired by that one post#that was aiming to criticize ai by mocking ppl who#sucked at writing professional emails#like there are so many things u can criticize abt chatgpt#and other similar services#their unethical data harvesting their resource demands etc#but the only thing u can bring up is 'well everyone knows#how to write emails so the only reason one might ask#an ai to write one for them is that theyre lazy' ??#idk why i expect nuance from tumblr but i really hate that#we ended up at 'anything ai is bad' without a single critical#thought going into it#disability#disabled#tw ableism#neurodivergent#actually neurodivergent#autism#autistic#actually autistic#<- obviously could apply to other disabilities as well#this is just the one that affects me lol
