hi aftg fandom. why are you weird about characters scars.

let’s start with neil. y’all barely draw them correctly. he was tortured. he will not have pretty little cat scratches on his face. remember when matt’s dad met neil and the first thing he did was recommend plastic surgery? he has a massive scar on his side from jumping out of a moving vehicle. he multiple burn scars on his face. lola would not have made him pretty. let him deviate from the beauty standard for five seconds please

matt is never depicted with his scars. he has track marks. neil noticed them right away. matt is allowed to have scars. he was an addict. that is a significant part of his character. do not get rid of that part of him bc it doesn’t fit your idealized version of him that you’ve made up in your head.

ofc we always draw andrews scars. i’m not going to go on a big rant about why people are weirdly obsessed with SH scars but. if y’all can draw andrew’s SH you will not die if you have to make neil look slightly out of the beauty standard or draw matt with something that is considered taboo.

moral of the story is that scars have A LOT of significance to these characters and choosing to ignore them or trying to make them pretty is. weird.

What I find interesting is how fandom cherry picks what Ursa's hallucination says.

In almost every Ursa discourse I see someone claim that the hallucination proves that Ursa loved Azula.

" See? Even Azula knows for sure her mother loved her, because her hallucination outright says so! "

And the same people who think that, more often than not, hold the opinion that:

" Ursa absolutely wouldn't be proud of Azula, because Azula became a bad person and that's why Azula herself doesn't believe this in the mirror scene. "

- What are you doing here?

- I didn't want to miss my own daughter's coronation.

- Don't pretend to act proud! I know what you really think of me! You think I'm a monster.

Yes, Azula doesn't buy Ursa being proud of her coronation, but this is clearly not what the hallucination implies here. The hallucination of Ursa literally says that she didn't want to miss her "own daughter's coronation", impling pride in Azula for her achievement.

Should we also take this hallucination line as a proof that deep down Azula knew Ursa would be proud of her coronation, but denies it? And this is where I think the fandom will disagree.

So why one thing is the truth and the other is not? According to the fandom, we must believe, that Ursa acting proud of Azula's coronation is a lie, but her telling Azula that she loves her is suddenly the truth that Azula denies. I think there's a clear inconsistency here, which is overlooked.

Overall, this is Azula's own belief about the real Ursa:

That Ursa liked Zuko more than her and that she thought of her as a monster and that's why she wouldn't be proud of her.

Meanwhile, the hallucination:

Azula is the center of Ursa's attention. Ursa acts proud of Azula's coronation, reassuring Azula that she's she's just confused and that she loves her.

So I don't know, maybe this is the Ursa that Azula had just imagined to herself, rather than what what she knows, in order to cope with the reality of what she actually believed about what her mother thought of her. It can be just logically concluded that it's very unlikely that these are the things that Azula herself knows.

This is sort of salty but one of my tumblr/social media pet peeves is when people assume the cause of a lack of engagement is anything and everything other than "people are not picking up what you're putting down." Like, yeah, there are people who like and don't reblog your fic or your long post, but sometimes it's because people liked your post to save it for later, read it and said "hmmmm I don't care for this" and then never cleared out their likes. I'm a big proponent of reblogging your own work that you're proud of but sometimes you have to admit that people are seeing it and saying "hard pass". And to be clear, I cannot judge with any objectivity if you are a misunderstood genius or a massive idiot, though I'll certainly have my own thoughts on it, but usually a post not getting notes isn't a conspiracy against you or other people's fear of being uncool or them not knowing how to use the website; sometimes people just didn't like what you said or even were merely totally apathetic to it. At the very least if you're incapable of humility and self reflection you should just assume you are a misunderstood genius and move on instead of sulking. If you are, in some cosmic truth, a massive idiot, this won't improve that situation, but you'll probably feel better and won't alienate people further by being both an idiot AND a sulker.
