"celebraties aren't activists" so close. actually speaking against an ongoing genocide doesn't make you an activist it makes you a human with basic sense of empathy and awareness
#you'd think speaking against the mass murder of innocent civilians and children is bare minimum & really not that hard specially for#privileged people with connections power security and money but you'd be surprised#palestine#free palestine#free gaza

Only the elves really see Elrond as "half-elven." They focus, of course, on who he is in relation to them. He's sort-of an elfâ enough that they can accept him into their society, but not enough to erase his differences. They understand the different parts of himâ his propensity to get sick, his elvish-sharp hearing, his need for sleep, his immortalityâ as "elvish" or "not-elvish." And while they can be rather condescending about anything they see as "not-elvish," they aren't usually very curious.
Most men regard Elrond vaguely as a fae being. This isn't unique to himâ much of Middle-Earth's changling and fairy stories were built on the strange human-and-not-human nature of half-elves. Of course, different humans regard them very differentlyâ sometimes with respect, even reverence, believing that "fairies" are beings of great wisdom and knowledge. Others see them with suspicion and fear, viewing them as sources of danger and deception.
To the Numenorians, Elrond is just one of themâ a kind of "immortal man." He is like them in several key waysâ he gets ill, he needs sleep, he regards the passage of time in a very "human" way. More importantly, he is their kin, a living remnant and reminder of both their mythical founder and non-human blood they share. He acts as a healer and counselor when they need him. This is all well and good until some of them start thinking that if Elrond could make the choice to be immortal, surely they should be able to as well.
The dwarves see Elrond as an elf. They absolutely do not care enough to tell the difference between him and the others. He's immortal, he's always with a bunch of elves. He's an elf.
The Maiar do not really understand what Elrond is, and have kind of defaulting to seeing him as one of them but like, small. Look, they're all uncounted thousands of years old, he's a child to them. They dote on him and think he's adorable, but sometimes forget that he's also part-elf and part-human, and can't just drop his physical form whenever he likes to go be a disembodied spirit in the clouds. Gandalf encourages all their antics. Elrond is working on it.
(Contrary to popular belief, the average hobbit does not have any kind of opinion on Elrond Peredhel. Bilbo Baggins, who lives in his house and has written several long, extremely personal ballads about his family history, is a statistical outlier and should not have been counted.)
#silmarillion#silm headcanons#elrond#elrond peredhel#eldritch peredhel#bilbo baggins#half elves#silm meta#elves and humans both see Elrond in very weird ways because they both kind of recognize him and kind of don't#the hobbits and dwarves just do not care#the maiar seeing anyone from Melian's line: a baby!#they'll have to fight the House of Finwe for Elrond privileges though#no one give them access to Elrond's children they'll be the most annoying aunts and uncles

The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.
#also idk how to tell you this but even if it were true. wealthy children potentially sacrificing their educational careers to protest is#a good thing actually. idk how to tell you that caring about people from other nations is good#personal#âthis war has nothing to do with most students cuz nobody's getting draftedâ idk how to explain to you that we should be angry#that our tuitions of 10s of thousands of dollars that we pay every year for an education is being used to fund a genocidal campaign#also the implication that if you go to a uni institution you are automatically privileged by participation no matter your bg#i didn't /want/ to go to this school. i was supposed to go to a school with an art/animation program. but i realized my immigrant#parents have been working their whole lives to get me here. and turning the opportunity down would be a disservice to their sacrifice#this is getting into convos of âwhat 2nd gen kids owe their parentsâ which is different for everyone but. yeah#i just get pissed off at seeing people misrepresenting student bodies as âwealthyâ and âprivilegedâ and âeliteâ when it's such a blatant li#i remember a year ago a friend told me they can't fly home to hong kong for winter break because the plane tickets are too expensive#so they have to find temporary housing around the area#last quarter for a film doc class my film partner made a doc on a small group of marxist grad students from india discussing praxis#during a rally a few months ago in response to police presence the coalition invited palestinian students to speak about their experiences#and lead songs and read poems they wrote. these are STUDENTS. are they elitist too?#this is not to disregard my own personal privilege either.#this whole narrative's just to rationalize a lack of empathy to me. seeing a 19yo student get shot by a rubber bullet and your first#reaction is âHAW! HAW! bet richy rich didn't see THAT coming when she put on her terrorist hood!â#newsflash. these big uni campuses are HAUNTED by the violence of past protests and revolutions and police brutality. we know.#why do you think these coalitions have been making reinforced barricades at record speed

racism in star wars will have wikis saying shit like "this species that is inspired on a real life non-white people is just too stupid to use the Force"
#hm i should make an original post tag#yes this is about tuskens#they 'lack mental capacity' to be jedi. according to some writer#which is fucking ridiculous#they have enough mental capacity to have two languages (spoken tusken and tusken sign language)#(they are usually seen being used together but they can be used independently)#just because they're nomadic and hostile to colonizers doesn't mean they're stupid. or lack the nuance to understand good and evil.#in me opinion there may not be any tusken jedi but for the same reason there's no bardottan jedi - they have their own force culture#they are hostile to outsiders and defensive of their peopleâ of course they wouldn't let some foreign order take their children away#i think a force-sensitive tusken would be highly regarded in their tribe. being one with the universe is a special privilege.

Non-ADHD and non-autistic disabled people whose only idea of ADHD and autistic people is shaped by media depictions of a nerdy white boy or a quirky goth girl with low support needs: "Yeah ADHD and autism are destigmatized and we should ignore people with ADHD and autism in favor of real disabilities. I am very smart and progressive."
Lateral prejudice towards other disabled people will get us nowhere.
#actually disabled#ableism#lateral ableism#autistic people face disproportional police violence#especially if they're not white#I know people who have been severely hurt socially financially and mentally because of their adhd and/or autism#there's a literal anti-vax movement of people who think autism is worse than polio and measles and shit#adhd and autism are not destigmatized#just because a handfull of privileged adhd and/or autistic people managed to succeed and mask very well#doesn't mean that's the majority of the adhd and/or autistic experience#there's a reason autism was classed as a schizophrenic disorder for a long time#because the outward symptoms of autism and schizophrenia can be very similar#parents of adhd and autistic kids talk openly about wanting to murder their children and some even succeed in doing so#and people sympathize with them#autism and adhd can manifest in auditory processing disorders and communication disorders#which to a non-professional appear indistinguishable from physical hearing impairements and neurological disabilities#adhd symptoms can be so similar to brain cancer that I know someone who died because his cancer was caught so late#actually autistic

one of the many things to love about katniss is that she's not spiteful, or revenge minded, no matter how many reasons society and her circumstances give her to be, and always has empathy for others.
and this extends to people she doesn't have much emotional connection to. for as much as she regarded the careers as the capitol's well trained lapdogs, she killed cato out of mercy rather than revenge. she acknowledged that cato and clove could have survived if her and peeta hadn't, that someone like marvel who murdered her ally (a twelve year old, the most innocent and vulnerable person in the arena and who katniss saw as a sister) might have had a life to go back to, a home with family members waiting for his return. she felt guilty during her interactions with gloss and cashmere because she killed children from their district that they might have mentored. katniss explicitly said she did not like enobaria as a person, but didn't want to exclude her from the protection deal with coin.
katniss also has a kind view of people that, as cinna himself said, she should have despised. the capitol citizens are vapid and privileged and watch children like her die for their entertainment every year. yet katniss still forges a relationship with cinna and is able to be vulnerable and share her private stories and treasured memories with him acting as the capitol audience. and while she sees her prep team as ignorant and childish pets, she does have affection for them and objected to them being tortured in district thirteen. even though effie literally comes to her district representing the most evil aspect of the capitol and every year sends two children from her home to die, katniss still sees her redeeming characteristics, bonds with effie, and makes an effort to spare her from the rebels.
no matter who the person is or what they might have done to her/her loved ones, katniss recognizes humanity in everyone and attempts to limit the suffering of others when possible, regardless of her personal opinion about them.
#the hunger games#i think this is one of the most important aspects of katniss's character#she recognizes that almost everyone around her is in some way a pawn/victim of people like snow & coin#even if they have their flaws (the careers) and privilege (the capitol citizens) she knows they are not responsible#and holds the true guilty people (coin and snow) accountable#katniss everdeen#thg meta#thg analysis#and this is especially seen when coin suggests using the capitol kids in a final symbolic Games#coin is using this move as a power bid rather than for justice#johanna and enobaria want to exact revenge#but katniss knows that even if the capitol is responsible for her suffering using their children to settle their crimes would make her#and everything she stands for#just as despicable

Me when someone on TikTok argues with my months old comment and DMS ME and I hit them with an essay about how Remarried Empress sets Rashta up for failure from the beginning and how the villainess manhwa community worships the worst of privileged men simply because heâs nice to the female lead but will easily shame and witch-hunt a female character for doing the same thing as the male character and acting appropriately to the situations sheâs placed in đ§ââď¸ for context, I had already been arguing back and forth with them for the past two days and they blamed Rashta for getting manipulated by Ergi but was calling Heinley innocent because he told Ergi to stop (the plan was originally his, and he still benefitted off of Rashtaâs manipulation in the end)
#this is probably why I was an avid Jennette defender#me at 17 fighting middle aged women with children and families because they blamed and hated Jen for being naive and manipulatetable#this personâs pfp is a woman and a child#why is it always the people with families who hate âinnocentâ and ânaiveâ child coded characters#and also baby the worst men alive#also not tagging RE because I hate that story and what itâs done to the community#me when itâs 2024 and people still use âTrashtaâ when Rashta was literally a slave used by privileged nobles her whole life#rashta defender#wmmap#who made me a princess#wmmap jennette#syl tea#if I had a nicke each time I had a post defending Rashta in RE Iâd have two nickels#which isnât a lot but itâs weird that it happened twice#idk how I managed to read so much of the RE novel#manhwa community

the tudors (2007-2010) / the concubine, by christopher rae / the six queens of henry viii (2016) / zombie (2018), cover by bad wolves / the white princess (2017) / hunting the falcon, by john guy & julia fox / viii, by hm castor / the white queen (2013) / henry viii, by lucy wooding / firebrand (2023)
#christopher rae pls forgive me. your portrayal of henry's memory of this eats all others...i could not NOT include#prism of privilege (he does not know what it is to be 'imprisoned' in the tower. he knows what it is to be confined there. as a child.#in fear it might have well felt like that...but#)#notwithstanding...#then in the tudors we have the prism of#his sanctified memory of his mother#means he wants to believe he had a deep affinity with her. so it's that she 'seemed' calm but he 'knew' she was terrified... (like him)#but elizabeth had experience of being in sanctuary ; very young; for much longer stretches#she would have known what would best comfort her children in that situation#web weaving#2023- allegedly.#and also how different the memory and associations of place are depending on the pov#for henry's subjects it's a place of fear/punishment#for henry it's a place he would associate with refuge ; a fortress of protection and majesty#but also a place of fear and sorrow#it's the place where it's said his uncles were murdered; for once#(the tower was also where his mother had her last lying in; and she died there)#and then it'll have an even more juxtapositional place in his heart/mind as he becomes older#it was where he both welcomed his wife after her coronation and where he sent her to die once he'd decided she'd betrayed him

This boomer opinion that "my kids deserve no inheritance, I'm going to spend it all on jetskis and cruises, they should just work hard like I did uwu" is so funny to me because this is the same generation who'll constantly berate the childfree about "leaving behind a legacy" and it turns out the legacy these boomers are leaving behind is their children struggling with lifelong poverty during the worst financial times since The Great Depression, something that their own parents went through and subsequently left these boomers an inheritance so as to avoid.
#and this whole âmy kids should just work hard like I didâ thing is also pretty funny#bc the statistics literally show every generation since the boomers has worked harder than the previous#but with no increase in wages#boomers didn't work hard to accumulate their wealth#they accumulated wealth by being born in the wealthiest time in recorded history#do boomers really think they worked harder than their own parents who survived The Great Depression?#the silent generation really was the best imo#they actually did struggle like millenials struggle today#& when they did pull themselves up by the bootstraps they left their boomer kids an inheritance to ensure they'd never struggle with poverty#the silent gen really did protect boomers from hardship so thoroughly these ingrates don't even understand what poverty is#they don't even recognise the legacy their own parents left them to protect them from poverty#they're willing to destroy their own parents' legacy and throw their kids into the fire#all because they don't recognise the privilege of living through the easiest financial time in history#the poverty of their day probably could be cured with a job flipping burgers#so they think that's still the case#they have no idea what their own parents protected them from and what they're obliviously throwing their own children into#childfree#anti natalism
