fr though you have to write bad poetry. poems are not handed down to you fully formed by god they are things that you have to work on and practice your skill at creating. nobody would expect you to sit down at a pottery wheel and end up with a perfect vase with no practice. it's a skill! art is a learned thing!! you have to make the shitty little pots with dents and marks and your fingerprints all over them in order to get better. and you're allowed to be proud of those first little pots you made too
#yeah maybe they leak or they don't look the prettiest but you literally made them...#people are so critical of their own + other people's amateur poetry in a way that they are not about so many other art forms#when someone starts crochet they are not expected to pop out perfect pieces immediately.#you don't start dance lessons and pull out a perfect pirouette. there's practice to be done and just because it's not physical#doesn't mean it's not a craft that has to be honed. you have to work at it.#and to work at it you have to be kind enough to yourself to let yourself be mediocre or outright bad. you Have to be#it's never a failure because anything you create is Something You Created and therefore a success#but y'know. the philosophy of you have to be prepared to fail. falling is part of getting back up all that#except that bad poetry will never hurt you it will ONLY ever help you improve <3 so keep writing it <3#you don't have to post it either the attention economy is so evil... keep it to yourself. and if sharing poetry is a thing you want to do#you can always wait until you feel confident in your work to do so. or show the people you love your bad poems.#cause people who love you will see your hard work and love it regardless. y'know?#not poetry

small PSA: if you shop at craft shows or artist alleys, please bring more than apple pay or a virtual card - especially if you're not comfortable entering your card number manually. not all of us have fancy card readers, so please also bring your physical card or cash, even if it's only as backup 👍
#psa#conventions#artist alley#not art#i've done two craft shows and two conventions with just my swipe reader. and cash ofc. but i did have to miss a couple sales at the cons#because people only had apple pay. no cash no physical card. It Sucks For Both Of Us!#when i say there are small businesses in the artist alley i mean some of us are Small#i don't speak just for myself but for other artists who have this trouble as well. some folks are just starting out and some folks#just do this for a hobby and can't afford or can't justify the bigger terminals yet or at all#if i get into ACEN again next year i'll opt for a terminal but they're Pricey and not something to start out with y'know#if you want to be an artist's best friend though? pay in cash.#not to mention if there's technical or wifi trouble - cash just works 100% of the time. no reader or wifi will stop you from using cash.#semi related but i had someone try to pay with apple pay at my last show and i said they'd have to enter their number manually then#and they said they'd go find their partner and see if they had card/cash. and then while they were walking away from their booth#their friend asked why and they said it wasn't safe. on one hand i can't be mad because its VERY good to practice card safety!#on the other hand. you're entering it into the same app that would process a swipe payment. it's exactly as safe as if you'd swiped it#i promise as long as you're entering the number into a square app your card info is safe lmao#anyway yeah a lot of us aren't Big Businesses. please just be courteous and bring some traditional payment methods Just In Case

I don't remember if you answered this question, but did you go to art school or are you self-taught? Have you studied from YouTube videos?
nah, I never did art school. I learned a few things from books when I was a kid and got signed up for a short summer art class one time, since I was thinking about being a professional artist and my parents were trying to help me along. I learned how to use digital art programs from tutorials when I was a teenager, but I haven't used tutorials much besides that. pretty much everything I know has been from observing other artists online and experimenting. so yeah, I guess that means I'm self-taught, haha.
I went to school for music and vocal performance, but I could tell a long story about the university I went to, how they weren't really qualified to train musicians and how I dropped out. I've already been working professionally as a performer for 7 years, working with a private teacher and as a teacher myself, and I have tons of experience that I never would've gotten at school, so it's all working out really well.
#this is a tirade but I think that college singing programs are generally pretty flawed#there are educational elements to being a singer but experience is SUPER important and colleges give you next to no experience#and you're so freaking busy in college that you have zero time or energy to even practice your craft#like the reason young artist programs exist is because they don't do that stuff in college#people spend a load of money on a college education that will make them fill their degree with useless GEs and electives#and then they have to spend even more money getting actual necessary stage experience#uh oh. I'm having opinions again#barring that college kind of sucked for me specifically lol#school and I didn't get along#asks

you NEVER need to wait “until you have the money” to start practicing witchcraft. you do not need ANY money for witchcraft. you can have all the money in the world and practice witchcraft every single day without spending a single cent on it. everything you need you already have, inside of you and around you as well.
#i mean this literally. incredibly literally.#you can do advanced forms of magic without ANY MONEY. even if you live in a city and cant forage or anything.#you have YOURSELF. and you are a powerful being.#energy work! look at that! you need nothing for it!#you can INCLUDE ANYTHING in your craft#you dont even need to though#witch tips#witchblr#beginner witch#baby witch#closeted witch#closet witch#this is from a secular witchcraft perspective btw ik there are religious practices that require specific tools etc. but i know nothing abou#those because i am a pantheist pagan lmao#but i mean. i know a little bit about deity work so im also gonna say you don’t necessarily NEED anything to work with them either!#unless its a specific tradition youre following#but offerings can be actions instead of physical goods. you can do divination using like.. the clouds.#AND TECH MAGIC! if you can see this right now then you have every form of tech magic available to you right now.#txt

Sometimes I wish there was a resource where it was like "Select a magic user from your fave media and we'll list all the books you should read/videos to watch to learn the level of knowledge and path they're on"
with a submission section you can submit characters and they can add them after review
bc yeah I know each path is specific to the witch but it'd be great to have such a direct studying source with vetted sources
Strega Nona? Boom a list of green witch, kitchen witch, familiars, and folk magic resources
John Constantine? Bam a list of resources of demonology, classic sigilcraft, the Old Gods, spirits and hauntings, protection magic
Sally or Gillian Owens from Practical Magic? Protection spells, hexes, love spells, graveyard craft, covens, ancestral magic, general witchcraft basics
Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service? Familiars, kitchen witch, ocean witch, folk magic, forest magic, herbology, potions, tarot, love magic
Just overall magic that's been shown in the media overall or directly what the character knows, there are soooo many more but like this was just off the top of my head
#It'd be so cool and helpful especially expanding your craft easier#kiki's delivery service#strega nona#john constantine#practical magic#witchblr#witch#resources

Fiber arts (crochet and knit, especially) tip I found helpful: It's great to be a yarn snob, but first, find what you actually like to work with. When you're beginning, you might be working with acrylic, and that's fine. There are plenty of great options for acrylic, and even that one material can be vastly different between brands (honestly, I think people don't recognize this enough! Acrylics are actually a diverse material!). However, you might like working with other materials more as you progress, and it's good to see what you'll like! I've been working with 100% cotton recently, and I really, really like it - much moreso than the acrylic I bought when I first crocheted, and I never knew that I would have liked it more.
It's okay to work with whatever you can, especially when it's your only option. When you get the chance, though, think about some things you like in a material. What textures do you like? What colour options do you prefer (bright/muted/natural)? What is realistic for you when it comes to caring for your projects once they're done? These are all important, and they're things that are specific for you. There is no such thing as a "bad material," only materials you like and want to use. It can be intimidating to feel like you're not at this pristine place of yarn-snobbery, but truthfully: it doesn't matter as long as you make things that you like, and being able to explore what you like can be really helpful.
#art#fiber art#knit#crochet#i think this could apply to other forms of fober crafts but i'm not well-versed enough to make such a sweeping generalization <3#i know sometimes people use 'yarn snob' to say that they are very specific in what they like and that it's not indicating...#...that they think they're somehow 'above' a person with less expertise or experience...#...i just think sometimes beginners can be (understandably) intimidated by all of it...#...and you can start really over-thinking your decisions and if you're Doing Art Right rather than just Doing Art#it's the Doing Art *Right* that will often set you back#it's OKAY to use whatever is both available to you and is of a quality you like#like i don't MIND acrylic - the one i'm using for the fazbeanie is an acrylic...#...in fact the fazbeanie yarn (Big Twist 100% acrylic in chocolate brown) made me learn that acrylic can have really nice softness...#...and it's a very smooth acrylic too. this other skein i got for practice was. very unpleasant for an acrylic#ANYWAY. rant over. for now.

"wearing leather/fur or eating animal products is unethical" SHUT UP SHUT UP WE ARE PART OF THE ECOSYSTEM!!!!
#is it unethical for a wolf to hunt? for a bird to use fur in its nest?#there are certainly problems with Industries being unethical I will not deny that#many corporations that produce animal products whether for food or craft employ cruel and unethical animal treatment practices#but wearing a leather jacket made from your local farmers cow made by a craftsman#is perfectly ethical#because we are animals part of an ecosystem and we are part of a chain that involves us killing other animals#66% percent of all animals on earth also do this#personally I wouldn't wear fur because I'd feel weird wearing skin#but theres anything Inherently cruel or unethical about it#I don't eat meat either#but believe it or not humans are omnivores!! we're supposed to do that!!!#if you make the personal choice not to eat meat/any animal products thats your choice and thats fine! I also made a choice not to eat meat!#but you cannot try to pretend that as a species on a biological level we are not supposed to eat meat. cmon now.#anyway.#ghost posts#text

If you became super rich and could design your own house, but could only add THREE unnecessary/random/expensive home additions (like how people will have bowling alleys, movie theatres, closets with museums of shoes, car display rooms, spa rooms, wine cellars, etc. in their mansions) - what three would you choose?
#I think I would have: an indoor pool (but like heavily customized with a faux weather system so I could get the feeling of swimming in#rain or fog or snow etc.). a very small arcade consisting only of skee-ball and DDR machines. and an old Library Room with authentic#historical furniture/interior design to store old books/tapestries/study room equipment/whatever other antiques I'd collect. It'd be#like some fully intricate movie set or something that would feel completely like stepping into another world/time.#Though I might would trade out the arcade for a roller skating rink.. i DO love skating....#And I wouldve put rock climbing gym because I love indoor rock climbing but.. as I understand it they have to change out the rock things#on the walls every once in a while so that you can have new routes and it doesnt get boring. and I'd rather have an activty room thats like#self sustaining and doesnt require me to hire some person to come switch things around once every month. Otherwise I would#totally do that instead.#I'm also personally not counting ''craft'' type stuff like having a pottery room kiln sort of thing because#that doesn't count as 'unnessecary' to me. since stuff like that would not at all be just a hobby I 'happen to#do sometimes for fun'#but would definitely be a career sort of thing. Like if I had the money for a fully stocked sculpture room and and a sewing room#with a good machine and etc. then I would literally be professionally selling pottery and designing clothing and etc.#so I wouldn't count it as 'just a random side room I dont need' etc.#The same way that if I played tennis professionally or as a very intense hobby that takes up most of my life/time#then I wouldn't count having a tennis court in your house to practice in as 'unncesscarry' etc.#wow that is the worst I have ever spelt that word ghbjh#Un Cess Carry#ALSO would obviously have an underground bunker of some sort with food and emergency supplies which also does not count as unnecessary to m#since it's literally like... survival.. And I thought most health organizations literally reccomend that even#the common person has a small 'go bag' prepared in their house. and like an evacuation plan in case of fire or other things#It WOULD be an unnecessary rich person thing to have a full on undergRound village or something stocked with 9000 guns and#whaetever. but I think just a basic emergency room with basic supplies could still be counted under the 'not unnecessary' requirement.#Like I would say that a sprawling courtyard of flower gardens and fountains and hedge mazes that takes up like a hundred thousand#dollars a year in maintenance would count as one of the three 'unnecessary and expensive' things. But having a small garden in the#back yard with a few planters in a little greenhouse or whatever would not. The 'excessiveness' of the thing matters lol#ANYWAY!!!#Just curious what other peoples Three Main things would be... hrrmm

First attempt at woven basket was twisting some split reeds and grass and winding them around split segments of a ridged stalk. Easy enough but rather delicate. I liked the calm and meditative task of splitting the reeds but the stripped blades of fresh grass looked better even tho they were more obnoxious to twist in.
#basket weaving#warm beach#plant crafts#appreciated that this needed no additional tools beyond your hands#macro mondays#macro photography#I made a tiny terrible quality second one later- feels like something I could easily get better at with practice

The drastic decline in the quality of my art is something that needs to be studied...
#why am i looking at the things i made like 2 years ago wondering how tf i managed to do that#you're telling me that being (maybe) burnt out and (perhaps) depressed and not practicing your craft yields worse results? thats crazy#i'm gonna go pretend like this isnt actually making me super sad now lol!#negative

gosh okay if it's okay can i leave some extremely persistent brainyakus for babyyakus.... like obv you can just leave this or post or just share w whoever you want i'm just some dudegirl clanging pots and pans in your boxes but! i have always loved the idea of like...... baby yakumo being taught some form of sign language (Klein Sign if u will allow the goofery) bc the mouth shapes and tongue movements of the spoken language are hard for him to grasp even with full immersion and support!!!! i also think he would have some anxiety actually using his voice bc Y'know. It's Yakumo. he does eventually become more comfortable with verbal speech ofc but oh my god i am losing my mind at (baby yakumo voice) pep-per......... once again thank you mxr requiodile for my god life. and truly what are pigs but big potatoes....... ONION OWWIES..........
my last spam i will leave u with is also! ever since i unlocked homecoming ssr yakumo and it's dropped that he made his own ceremonial clothing i became OBSESSED w the idea of grandma taking babkumo to The Crafting Circle of the village. maybe he needed a bit more immersion into human spaces before he started school so he's just cowering in grandmas lap while she's knitting and mending but slowly he starts just like wandering around, looking at all the things happening with all the crafters just letting this uncanny child gaze in wonder over all the comfort items and soft blankets and warm clothes being made. and then there's at least one giant ass loom and those things are HUGE and make a lot of clacking noises. babkumo inching closer to it but doing these big scared jumps every time it makes noise but he's just so O.O like this giant scary thing makes such nice things!!! he's been wrapped in scarves fresh off this thing!!! and then whoever is working the loom pushing the shuttle through and just patiently waiting for yakumo to very tentatively push it back toward them. tbh i don't even really think that's great weaving technique but idc we are socializing this yokai via fibers and stich-n-bitch. thank you again for the generosity and enthusiasm ;w;
i am leaving this here for everyone to see because i like it and i want to show it
#SIGN LANGUAGE YAKUMO.......... sweet child#it's scary to talk sometimes. especially if the meaner ppl around u make fun of ur pronunciation#baby which of the mean adults made fun of your syllables. i'll beat them with a shovel#so instead we'll put that affinity for hand fidgeting to practical use#yakumo's good with his hands right?? takes all sorts of practice!!!#dexterity +6 from signing. another +6 from whatever crafting class he's shadowing in the village#he's doing potterymaybe! he's sewing! he's cookin! he is extricating fchickens from the wire gate bc some chickens live life on the edge!!!#honestly nonners i also freaked out when i unlocked that ssr lore about his sewing#i think i just screamed at the sky like “WHY IS MY WIFE SO PERFECT”#seriously. points to the outfit. that is not the work of an amateur.#i'm gonna kill him for being an anxious mary sue. i hate him. why is he good at things. why is he so cute#actually he's probably less mary sue than i think. i would not trust him to win a game of dodgeball.#do mary sues always win at dodgeball? i'm not putting yakumo near any high contact sports. just to be safe.#IGNORE ME. ANYWAY.#OLDER YAKUMO HAVIN A NONVERBAL MOMENT AND EVERYONE'S like ???? how do we get him to tell us what's wrong??#BAM! FATHER OLIVINE KNOWS KLEIN SIGN! HE SOOTHES THE SNAKE AND WE ALL GET BACK TO COMMUNICATION#nu carnival yakumo#feesh answer

A reminder that it’s ok to take breaks from the craft. It’s ok to step back and not touch your altar for weeks or months while you study and/ recuperate.
Don’t feel like you’re a bad witch for taking a break. You can absolutely overwhelm yourself if you aren’t careful.
I haven’t done a daily pull all month, and I don’t feel bad. I do light a candle daily and burn incense to make sure I stay connected, but I don’t feel an ounce of sadness or remorse for it. My deities are honored other ways, and they understand that life gets entirely overwhelming.
Do not feel bad for taking breaks.
Today’s song is Luminary by Joel Sunny
What a lovely song to listen to. It makes me feel like I’m touching the heavens or flying through the air. Ironically, I first heard this song when I was scrolling the YouTube shorts. A guy was showing AI generated visions of what different Bible verses would look like if we saw them irl. Such a beautiful song.

I CANNOT find this one specific color in a ribbon and it makes me mad :(
What would you call this color? I think I may not have the right search terms.
To me it's like a desaturated bordeaux, but obviously that's hard to search for ribbon of. Should I be looking at dark red?
Last time I paired it with green but this print is different
I'm trying to pair for the print on the left, and I want to use the same floss color. I think I may have to change my search to teal or a yellow green
I'm actually thinking of maybe trying like a cucumber green
Because I think that would look very 18th century
This is what I'm remembering to go with the green.
#totes bro#i ordered what i thought was dark red grosgrain but it turned out like just red#anything in the color family would work but aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh#i pair it with green usually#if you recognize all three of these as Williamsburg prints youre correct#unfortunately i live in Virginia so i find these in thrift stores all the time#im not like a Williamsburg print stan but theyre nice. i learned i cant wear them because i dont know how to wear lighter fabrics#oh this if for an apron to go with my sewing kit#to act as like a blanket with pockets when I'm sewing cross-legged#its just funny because i know people are crazy for these fabrics but i just like buy peoples old curtains for practically free#this post is like a reference to me#if i actually printed shit for my fiber craft journal
